“We’d take a break [during Dark Horse recording sessions in 1974] to go for fish and chips, and there were two ways you could go. One was through this very winding road through the woods from Friar Park to the little fish place. And that’s the way we went. The first time, he took me in a Ferrari. Well, he really liked racing. I’m telling you, man, when we came back from getting our fish and chips, he drove through those winding roads as if he was on a racetrack. I mean really, really going for it. It was serious, and I’m holding on, thinking, ‘Wow, man, I sure hope we stay on the road because if we miss, we’re history.’ Well, we made it home in the Ferrari. The next time we went for fish and chips, he took a Porsche and he took the same route. The Porsche seemed to handle the road better, so he started speeding up. I just thought, ‘He’s such a fan of racing, I guess there’s this little racecar driver inside him.’ But then he really started going, and when we got into Friar Park we were really flying so fast that the car got away from him. There were these high hedges that lined the driveway to the garage, and we’re running through the hedges — and I just sat there acting as normal as I could, but I was praying, O Lord, please don’t let them read about us in the newspaper. Just get us back to the house. After he came out of the hedges, he shrugged and gave me a little laugh as though it never happened. I’m looking at George, and he just looks away like, Don’t say nothing. Well, we went into the house and neither of us ever said a word.” - Willie Weeks, Here Comes The Sun: The Spiritual and Musical Journey of George Harrison (2006)
“George offered to drive us [Gary and Chris Agajanian] to the airport [from Friar Park], which was quite a hair-raising experience — his version of driving in a Formula One car at the Grand Prix. I thought to myself, ‘We survived India with its tigers, cobras, and pythons, and now we’re ripping down the M4 motorway at a hundred and twenty miles an hour!’ Given the speed we were traveling, we were stopped by a policeman, and as George rolled the window down, the officer politely said, ‘Oh, Mr. Harrison, sorry, on your way then.’” - Gary Wright, Dream Weaver: Music, Meditation, And My Friendship With George Harrison (2014) (x)

22 years since his passing, for what would have been his 80th birthday, I am overjoyed to announce that we are bringing my father’s music catalogue back home to Dark Horse Records, the company he started back in 1974. We look forward to releasing only the finest of packages and hope the fans join us on the deepest of dives into our archives as we continue to grow his legacy through our partnership with BMG, starting with the release of his entire back catalog in Spatial Audio, for the first time, on Apple Music. We also will be using this opportunity to make all the custom limited vinyl that we can get away with. Happy 80th Dad!!! We love you always.

A Film A Year
Tumblr media
Going through an old hard drive today I found this almost-completed list from 2015 in which I'd set myself the task of choosing a single film for each year of the preceding hundred. It was interesting to see in what ways my tastes had changed and just how many more films I'd discovered and fallen in love with in the meantime.
Anyways, I thought I'd finish it off and update it to the present: I very much tried to keep it to just one film per year, but the competition some years was just too high so they've had to share joint first places:
1915 A Night In The Show 1916 The Vagabond 1917 Easy Street 1918 A Dog's Life 1919 Sunnyside 1920 One Week 1921 The Kid 1922 Dr Mabuse, The Gambler 1923 Safety Last / Why Worry? 1924 Sherlock Jr / The Last Laugh 1925 The Gold Rush 1926 The General 1927 Sunrise / Seventh Heaven 1928 The Last Command / Steamboat Jr. / The Man Who Laughs / The Passion of Joan of Arc 1929 The Love Parade / Un Chien Andalou / Lucky Star 1930 All Quiet On The Western Front 1931 City Lights/ The Smiling Lieutenant 1932 Horse Feathers / Love Me Tonight 1933 Duck Soup / The Invisible Man 1934 It Happened One Night 1935 The 39 Steps 1936 My Man Godfrey 1937 Nothing Sacred 1938 Adventures Of Robin Hood / Pygmalion 1939 The Cat And The Canary / The Wizard of Oz / The Hunchback of Notre Dame 1940 His Girl Friday / Pinocchio 1941 Citizen Kane / The Maltese Falcon / Dumbo / Sullivan's Travels 1942 Casablanca 1943 Le Corbeau 1944 Arsenic & Old Lace 1945 Les Enfants du Paradis / And Then There Were None 1946 A Matter of Life and Death 1947 Black Narcissus 1948 The Treasure of the Sierra Madre 1949 The Third Man / Kind Hearts & Coronets 1950 Sunset Blvd. / La Ronde 1951 A Streetcar Named Desire 1952 Singin' In The Rain / Le Plaisir 1953 Calamity Jane 1954 Hobson's Choice 1955 The Night Of The Hunter /The Ladykillers 1956 The Searchers 1957 The Seventh Seal 1958 Vertigo 1959 North By Northwest / Ballad of A Soldier 1960 Psycho / The Virgin Spring / Two Women 1961 Breakfast At Tiffanys 1962 Le Doulos 1963 The Great Escape / The Birds 1964 Onibaba 1965 For A Few Dollars More 1966 Blow Up 1967 Le Samourai / Cool Hand Luke 1968 2001: A Space Odyssey 1969 Butch Cassidy & The Sundance Kid 1970 Le Cercle Rouge 1971 Get Carter / Harold & Maude 1972 The Godfather 1973 Don't Look Now 1974 The Godfather Part II / Chinatown 1975 Jaws / The Rocky Horror Picture Show 1976 Network 1977 Star Wars / Annie Hall 1978 Halloween / Superman 1979 Apocalypse Now / Alien / Life Of Brian / Manhattan 1980 Stardust Memories / Raging Bull 1981 Raiders Of The Lost Ark 1982 Blade Runner / The Thing 1983 The Dead Zone / Zelig 1984 Ghostbusters / The Terminator / Blood Simple 1985 Back To The Future 1986 Hannah & Her Sisters / The Fly 1987 Withnail & I / Wings of Desire 1988 Dangerous Liaisons 1989 Crimes & Misdemeanors / Dead Poets Society 1990 Goodfellas 1991 The Silence of The Lambs / Terminator 2 1992 Reservoir Dogs / The Player 1993 Schindler's List / Groundhog Day 1994 Pulp Fiction 1995 Se7en / Casino / The Usual Suspects 1996 Fargo 1997 LA Confidential / Grosse Point Blank / Boogie Nights 1998 The Truman Show / Happiness / Buffalo '66 1999 American Beauty / Magnolia / Being John Malkovich / Fight Club 2000 Memento 2001 Mulholland Drive / The Royal Tennenbaums / The Piano Teacher 2002 Adaptation / The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers 2003 Lost In Translation 2004 Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind / The Life Aquatic 2005 Me & You & Everyone We Know 2006 The Prestige / Perfume 2007 No Country For Old Men / There Will Be Blood 2008 The Dark Knight / Let The Right One In / Tropic Thunder 2009 Cold Souls / Up / Zombieland 2010 I Saw The Devil / The Ghost Writer 2011 The Hidden Face 2012 The Avengers 2013 Her 2014 The Grand Budapest Hotel / The Winter Soldier 2015 The Survivalist / The Lobster 2016 Like Crazy 2017 Coco 2018 Deadpool 2 2019 The Irishman 2020 Kajillionaire 2021 The French Dispatch 2022 The Banshees of Inisherin

I'm bored and depressed so let's rate each of the Beatles different eras based on how they looked because I can't think of anything else that would make me happier right now 🤭💕
I'm doing this individually, and we're starting with George because where the fuck else would we start but with our resident It Girl 💅🏻
Tumblr media
Teddy Bear (Pre-Beatles Era)
I'm not a huge fan of the Teddy Era myself but I have no choice but to respect it, as George does look good
This is the only time his hair is up instead of down during Beatles Era but it's still cute
He knew what look he wanted and stuck with it. I admire the dedication.
7/10 because if I saw him at a party or something he would definitely catch my attention
Tumblr media
Bowl (1962-63)
I'm not a fan and honestly I don't think George was either
As we know he hated having his hair cut, and they gave him the most cringe hairstyle ever and he just had to deal with it
But since he's George and he looks cute regardless it doesn't look as bad as it should have lmao
6.5/10 because George will never receive less than a 6 he is physically incapable of looking bad. The extra half point is also because I find the unibrow quite endearing 🤭
Tumblr media
Mop Top (1964-65)
Out of all the bowl-cut renditions this one is by far my fave
Every time I rewatch AHDN and Help! I can't get over how cute he looks
When it would get messy and become Onion Hair™️ >>> (see Beatles For Sale album cover for reference)
7.5/10 because it's cute but not my all-time favorite George era. Would definitely be an honorable mention though
Tumblr media
Shaggy (1966)
Softest era yet tbh
This was around the time they went to India so it's very clear that George is soon going to enter his truest form
They're not pictured, but this was also the era of the tiny circle sunglasses, which were an unbelievable serve
9/10 and I want to kiss him on the tip of his nose
Tumblr media
Spiritual Awakening (1967)
yes Yes YES
Long hair + mustache combo = hot sexy realness
I must also address the fact that I never thought facial hair was attractive until George. That's how much I love this
10000/10 absolutely perfect no complaints ever I'm in love 😍
Tumblr media
Victorian Vampire Realness (1968)
Also known as Cherry's Gender Goals
The only era where I can say I actually look like him 😌
I feel like it's missing something with the lack of facial hair, but the difference is not that significant
9/10 based on vibes alone, and I only deducted a point because I simultaneously want to be him and be with him. This confuses me.
Tumblr media
Get Up and Go (1969) (pls tell me you get that reference)
I hope to someday be even a percentage of how stylish this man is
The grown out shag and mustache does something to me 🥴
I watch the scene of him practicing his slide routine wayyy more than I should...
120000/10 I wanna run my fingers through his hair while we make out
Tumblr media
Hippie Jesus (1970)
There are several versions of this look, and the ones where his hair is a bit shorter is the preferred one for me.
Here, however, he looks like a whimsical forest entity and I have a certain appreciation for that
He looks very warm and cozy and that makes me want to hug him. I feel he would give amazing hugs 🥰
7.5/10 and I want to braid his hair
Tumblr media
Sophisticated Gardener (1971-72)
Okay. HEAR ME OUT.
I'M NOT A FAN OF BEARDS. We have already discussed that. SO WHY THE FUCK AM I SO ATTRACTED TO THIS
I do not like how hot he looks like this. It confuses me to the point that it turns me on even more.
43625749/10 I wanna lay on a blanket in his garden and make love for hours 🥵🥵🥵
Tumblr media
Pantene Commercial Applicant (1973)
DO YOU SEE HOW GLORIOUS HIS HAIR LOOKS
Paired with a mustache and oh my god I am on my knees
He also looks amazing in hats. Any and all hats 😁
100/10 he looks majestic and I wanna know his hair care routine
Tumblr media
Dark Horse Gender Thief (1974-75)
Alright listen here bitch (affectionate)
If I don't look like this or exude this energy at some point in my life I am going to be very upset
The BDE is off the charts and the proof of existence is irrefutable.
1000/10 he's sexy and we ALL know it. In my mind we're kissing on the mouth but whatever 😤
Tumblr media
Crackerbox Poodle (1976)
soft bby
wanna have tea and cookies with him (I don't even like tea but I would do it for him)
cuddles and blankets on cold winter days ftw
10/10 he would get me out of a depressive episode when no one else could 🥺💕
Tumblr media
Permalicious (1977-78)
Dilf (Literally. This was around the time Dhani was born)
Not a huge fan of perms but he still looks cool
The was also the continuation of the cardigan era from '76 so let's just say now I'm picking up on some hipster vibes if you know what I mean
9.5/10 I'd let him take me on a museum date and then to an overpriced coffee shop (I don't like coffee either but you get it). Would probably make out with him too.
Tumblr media
Mullet Dad(dy) (1979-80)
Hawaiian shirts and tacky necklaces we love to see it
THE EARRINGS OH MY GOD THE EARRINGS
He was so handsome in this era AND FOR WHAT
10/10 I'd sleep with him if he wanted me to
Tumblr media
Inverted Bowl (1981-83)
George bby what happened
Like Bowl but spiky(?)
Doesn't look terrible but it was the 80s what do you expect
7/10 and those points are mostly coming from the pattern on the shirt and the overwhelming dilf energy
Tumblr media
Long Lost Full House Character (1984-85)
This look is so 80s but I'm not mad at it
I didn't like it at first but the more I stare at it the more I fall in love with it
That could just be the power of George regardless of what he looks like but are we really gonna act surprised about that
50/10 he would 100% be able to seduce me by doing absolutely nothing
Tumblr media
Oof (1986)
Teddy Boy? More like Teddy Middle-Aged Man 😳
Babe what did you do
Still got a cute face but I don't know what to make of this hairstyle
7/10 this one and Inverted Bowl are in a race to the bottom lmao
Tumblr media
Author's Photo at the End of the Book (1987)
The dilfiest dilf to ever dilf oh mY GOD 🥴
He looks like a college professor and when I tell you I would have PERFECT attendance (there's a fic on AO3 about that if you're interested)
When I say I like older men THIS IS WHAT I FUCKING MEAN
36842957/10 Making love to this man would be one of the best experiences of my life. I've never wanted to fuck a man in his forties so badly PLEASE he would make me feel so loved and appreciated I JUST KNOW IT 🥵
Tumblr media
Nelson Wilbury (1988-90)
You already know (Dilf)
The End of the Line and Handle With Care MVs are something that can be so personal
He could talk to me about trees for hours and I would never get bored
13498275/10 We're fucking and then taking a hot bath afterwards sorry I don't make the rules
Tumblr media
Businessman Couture (1991-93)
If you saw the previous rating of this era no you didn't
I don't know what I was on he's so fucking hot
He still looks like a college professor but I'm not gonna pretend for one second that I ain't into that shit
49527428/10 I orginally had this at a 6.5/10 and I feel like I have to apologize to some higher power out there for the carnal sin I committed. I should've chosen a photo from 1992 specifically but I didn't and I feel that was a mistake. He has ruined my standards for men.
Tumblr media
Cool Guru (1994-97)
The long hair has made a comeback I love it so much 💕
Literally has the most warm and welcoming energy I have ever seen. If he hugged me I would probably start crying
Seems like he would enjoy those sweet romantic park lunch dates 🥰
9.5/10 I would take a meditation class with him
Tumblr media
Wholesome Dad (1998-∞)
Deserves all the love and appreciation
Would definitely be constantly creating new recipes for the food from his garden
He knew the real meaning of life and we all could learn a thing or two from him
100/10 the vibes are immaculate and I wish I could give him a hug 🥺💕🥰

George Harrison (25 February 1943 – 29 November 2001)was a musician, singer-songwriter, and film producer. He is best known for being the lead guitarist of the Beatles. He would often be referred to as the “ quiet Beatle.” Various blues and early rock and roll artists heavily influenced Harrison and the rest of the Beatles. But, after some time in India, Harrison was influenced and embraced Indian music, culture, and religion, which helped broaden the scope of the band’s music. Harrison also contributed to songwriting for the band. The songs he wrote include “ Taxman,” While My Guitar Gently Weeps,” and one of my favorites, “ Here Comes the Sun.”He was one of the first members of the groups looking to work on his music and branch out to new and different sounds. He briefly left the group while recording the album Let I Be. but he came after much convincing from the other three. After the Beatles parted ways, Harrison released several best-selling singles and albums. In 1971, he helped organize a Concert for Bangladesh with the help of Indian musician and mentor Ravi Shankar. He was a producer assisting many artists on the Beatles’ record label Apple. He co-founded the supergroup The Traveling Wilburys. 1988. He collaborated with several artists, including his former bandmates Ringo Starr, Billy Preston, Eric Clapton, and Tom Petty, most notably Ravi Shankar. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame once as a member of the Beatles in 1988 and posthumously for his solo career in 2004; he is ranked 11th on Rolling Stone magazine’s 100 greatest guitarists. Harrison also served as a music and film producer. He founded Dark Horse Records in 1974 and co-founded HandMade Films In 1978. He even appeared as himself on one of my favorite episodes of The Simpsons. Harrison is still a significant influence on many artists. He was one of the unique Beatles.

Hey all, here are my creativity test results. Think there's some work to be done! Here are some design preferences and prejudices too:
Design Preferences:
Subversive Film - I am absolutely crazy about movies. I won’t sit here and try to argue that there’s one kind I love more than any other, because I’ve seen so many that I can find one from any genre that I absolutely adore. Still, I have extra respect for movies that push the boundaries of what can/should be done in film. I love any film that goes out of its way to defy the medium and any established rules of filmmaking. Within these terms, I’ll mention a few favorites: Mulholland Drive (2001), Pierrot Le Fou (1965), Persona (1966), The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974), and Gummo (1997) stand out above many others to me. If I had to pick a favorite genre, it’d probably be horror, but if it ever comes down to movies I’m ready to talk all day about them.
Sample Heavy Music - I adore the art of sampling. Few things give me as much of a genuine rush as when I’m listening to an album and I recognize the origin of a sample used in a song. My favorite album of all time is “Since I Left You” by The Avalanches, an album under the Plunderphonics subgenre that is made up of between 900 to 3,500 different samples, depending on who you ask. It is an album full of lively, danceable tunes that I cannot recommend enough. Other artists I love for their sampling abilities are Daft Punk, DJ Shadow, the Beastie Boys, MF DOOM, Madlib, Earl Sweatshirt, and Boards of Canada.
Varying Kinds of Literature - I would hesitate to call myself well read, but I do try my best to read as much as I can. I think the novel is one of the most powerful mediums, since it can be formed in any way the author sees fit. It is truly a playground for creativity and I’ve found great pleasure in many kinds of literature, so I’ll name a few writers and works I love: Cormac McCarthy (Blood Meridian, All The Pretty Horses), Flannery O’Connor (Wise Blood, A Good Man is Hard to Find, Good Country People), David Foster Wallace (Infinite Jest, Good Old Neon), Thomas Pynchon (Inherent Vice, Gravity’s Rainbow), and Toni Morrison (Beloved). I think what I love most about these writers/works is how much they all utilize the flexibility of the novelistic form to create worlds and characters that could not be rendered in any other medium, or at least would be very difficult to.
Design Prejudices:
Minimalistic or Overly Plain Branding: I know many people generally despise the concept of branding as a whole, but I think I’ve pretty much come to terms with its universality. I often find that I grow attached to some kinds of branding, particularly logos, which upsets me even more whenever companies go out of their way to “rebrand” to some minimalistic junk. I understand the need (or perceived need) to appear modern/sleek/cool but to me there is nothing cool about something that looks like it can belong to any old brand. Some entities who I believed have changed their branding for the worse over the years: Pringles, Snapple, La Liga, Firefox, and Google. God forbid they do anything to the Coca-Cola logo.
Clothing With the Brand Name on It: This one is real specific. I won’t pretend that I have a clue when it comes to fashion; my method for getting dressed every day is to wear whatever happens to be at the top of my drawer. Still, I find that I simply refuse to buy any clothing where the brand’s or store’s name is just blasted onto the front of it. The worst for this are places like Hollister, Aeropostale, even some of the hype-beast luxury brands, but special mention to Gap because I didn’t think I could hate 3 plain letters on a hoodie so much.
Sitcoms About Nice/Overly Dumb People: Full disclosure, I have a dark sense of humor (within reason, obviously). I find that what makes me laugh in comedy is people acting completely awful. Think shows like It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Seinfeld, Curb Your Enthusiasm, and Veep. It works best because it shows the absurdity of life and the situations that arise from it. That’s why so many other comedies simply don’t work for me; they’re too focused on being nice that they just end up feeling toothless and milquetoast. I won’t name the shows I don’t like out of respect (it’s hard to write and direct!) but it’s something that always gets on my nerves.

Yusuf/Cat Stevens släpper nytt studioalbum Den 16 juni släpper Yusuf/Cat Stevens sitt sjuttonde studioalbum King of a Land via BMG/Dark Horse Records. Första albumsingeln ”Take The World Apart” släpps idag.
“Looking at the jagged journey of my music, beginning as I did in the 60’s, I would say this new record is a mosaic. A very clearly defined description of where I've been and who I am.” – Yusuf/Cat Stevens  Avslutningslåten "Take The World Apart" är en behaglig ingång till albumets kraftfullt barnsliga tema. Singeln släpps idag tillsammans med en tillhörande animerad charmigt lyrisk video skapad av barnillustratören Peter Reynolds som matchar den glädje och optimism som Yusufs musik naturligt framkallar.  "Sometimes you have to take something apart, to find the peace you’re looking for.” – Yusuf / Cat Stevens  King of a Land är fortsättningen på ett samarbete mellan Yusuf och Peter Reynolds som började med New York Times bästsäljande "Peace Train"-bilderbok 2021. Förutom King of a Land-omslagskonst har Peter skapat illustrationer för var och en av låtarna som porträtterar albumets teman och som finns med i skivans medföljande broschyr.  "Someone pinch me. Illustrating the Peace Train picture book was an honour, but when Yusuf asked me to create the album art and animation for King of a Land... well, I feel like I'm dreaming. The music and lyrics are truly what the world needs now more than ever." “Most of the songs started with me playing and recording everything at home in the garage - it’s as close as you can get to being inside my head”, säger Yusuf. Den sista mixen av King of a Land ägde rum i Henley-on-Thames i George Harrisons privata studio i hans tidigare hem, Friar Park.  “We were very privileged to be in Friar Park,” säger Yusuf, “and to be one of the first outsiders to enter that control room and mix an album. George Harrison has been an immense influence on me spiritually, from the very beginning. He pioneered certain thoughts and ideas, which stretched way east, and that was very important. If you listen to some of these songs on this album, you’ll hear a kind of spirit of George.”  Albumet släpps också genom Dark Horse Records, Harrisons eget bolag som drivs av hans son Dhani.  Den bestående framgången för Yusufs musikaliska arv bygger på en myriad av faktorer, men nyckeln bland dem är den kusliga förmågan han har att omsätta sin livfulla fantasi till musikalisk form. Denna hunger och vilja att skriva, spela in och underhålla är har inte avtagit i King of a Lands.  Nästan 60 år har gått sedan en sjuttonårig "Cat" undrade ut på popscenen med hits som "Matthew and Son" och "I'm Gonna Get Me a Gun", och skrev tidlösa klassiker som "The First Cut Is The Deepest" och ”Here Comes My Baby”. King of a Land‘ Album Tracklisting   1. Virtual Sketchbook 1
Discussion:
Hi everyone! My name is Samantha Palmer and many years ago when I was in High School I won an art contest. The piece of artwork I created now hangs in a museum in Washington, D.C.
The artwork I was assigned is called Guernica by Pablo Picasso in 1937.
1. The piece was an anti-war symbol showing all the tragedies of war. This brought the Spanish Civil War to the attention of the world as the artwork made its tour around the world.
2. Guernica is a Spanish town that was bombed for 2 hours on April 26, 1937, by the Germans. This was an important town because it hosted the Republicans forces that harbored assorted factions.
3. While the artwork was in New York an antiwar activist defaced by spray painting it with red paint in 1974. It was immediately cleansed so the damage was not permanent.
4. Picasso refused to allow the Spaniards to have the painting until they Spanish re-established a democratic republic. However, after Picasso's death the Muriel was returned to Spain.
5. Picasso purposely used the bull and horse because they are two very characters in the Spanish culture.
When I first saw the artwork, I thought it was very strange. I thought it may have something to do with death right off the bat with there being a man dying right in the middle and someone on holding a dead person on the left side. Now that I have some history on the artwork, I see it a little differently. You can see the pain in it and understand how it shows the destruction of war. The fact that Picasso illustrated the weapons of war as horses, and swords but the bombs that rained from the sky left them helpless. With the person on the right being eaten from his feet up shows the ground going down all around him. It's a dark, gloomy, and painful message.

2. My shell ring that I look at everyday in my kitchen is an important piece of artwork for me. I have always loved the beach and the ocean, and always want to be close to it. This is my way of having it literally in my own home. I picked up each and every one of those shells here at the beaches of Southwest Florida. The media used is the beautiful shells. I used a Styrofoam ring and hot glue to make the ring. I attached a photo frame hanger on the back with resin. I think my shell ring is beautiful with all its colors and shapes and the beautiful thoughts it creates when looking at it.
3. I am 37 a years old woman, and I was born in Orlando, FL but I was raised in Knoxville, TN. I work at a very busy Dermatology group in southwest Florida. I think that what makes me unique is that I like to keep an open mind to everyone, and I am scared of no one. Often my friend and co-workers tell me that I don't know a stranger.
4. Self Portrait using artist Romare Bearden work as an example.

Okay so I like pop figures (bc I’m sure everyone had at least one in their room) and I have a small collection (and they’re all out of their boxes bc my mom assumed they were supposed to be out of their boxes). I have a Freddie Mercury one and I really want a Roger Taylor one, then I thought maybe I can get a George Harrison one to find out FUNK POP DOESN’T HAVE GEORGE HARRISON! Like how do they not have the guitarist of one of the biggest bands to ever happen in music history????
Apparently Funko Pop just made a John Lennon one…
But I have a idea, so here me out, I’ll practically beg funko pop to make a George Harrison funk pop based off of this outfit
Tumblr media
Bc this is such a iconic look for him!
What do you guys think?
sincerely apologizing for my rant lol,
Your friendly neighborhood tumbler Dom💜

George Harrison, 1968; photo by John Kelly.
Living In The Material World was released in the USA on May 30, 1973.
“You’re taught to just have faith, you don’t have to worry about it, just believe what we’re telling you. And this is what makes the Indian one such a groove for me, and I’m sure for a lot of other people. Because over there they say, ‘Don’t believe in a thing… if there’s a god we must see him, if there’s a soul we must perceive it,’ and so on. It‘s better to be an outspoken atheist than a hypocrite, so their whole teaching is, Don’t believe in nothing until you’ve witnessed it for yourself.” - George Harrison, Rolling Stone, February 1968
Q: “Is there a paradox between your spiritualism and the atmosphere when you’re touring?” George Harrison: “It is difficult, yeah. It’s good practice in a way, to be, as they say, in the world but not of the world. You can go to the Himalayas and miss it completely. Yet you can be stuck in the middle of New York and be very spiritual. I noticed some places like New York bring out a certain thing in myself while I found in places like Switzerland there were a lot of uptight people because they’re living in all this beauty, there’s no urgency in trying to find the beauty in themselves. If you’re stuck in somewhere like New York you have to look within yourself; otherwise you go crackers.” - pre-Dark Horse Tour press conference, October 23, 1974
Lisa Robinson (journalist): “Is it difficult for you to lead a spiritual life and remain in the music scene?” George Harrison: “Yes. The music scene can be… seedy. It’s pretty difficult and I go back and forth.” - Intelligencer Journal, November 25, 1976
“That’s probably the most difficult of all, because I really relate to these people [musicians]. I love them, and they’re my friends, and from time time I’ve really gotten into that — being crazy and boogying… parties and whatever all that involves. I go from being completely spiritual and straight. Then, after a while, I’ve gone back in with the rockers again. But I’ve got a good sort of tilt mechanism in me.” - George Harrison, There Goes Gravity by Lisa Robinson (2014)
“He said, ‘I’m lucky, I’ve got a tilt mechanism.’ And I used to look at him and go, ‘Well, your tilt mechanism goes beyond mine.’ He felt he always knew when to come back, but it can be a dangerous way to live. Because he had an inner anchor and a very pronounced consciousness — not conscience, but consciousness — he knew: This was bad, I’ve got to get back. And maybe that was the Catholic guilt he was always trying to leave behind. Maybe he never did. Maybe that was the tilt mechanism, I don’t know.” - Olivia Harrison, ArtsBeat, The New York Times, September 23, 2011 (x)

We {Faramir x Reader Oneshot}
Requested by: Anonymous Wordcount: 1974 Summary: On a blistery day, you borrow a cloak from someone you used to be attached to. Faramir is less than pleased.
The day was surprisingly cold, with small flurries of snow coming through the gaping window-holes of the castle, causing you to shiver whenever you had to rush past them. Winters in Minas Tirith could be gorgeous, of course, with the pure white and fluffy snow covering everything, but this late in the fall, it was still more of a wet snow than a pleasant one. There were barrels containing hot coals where you would stop and warm your hands, but you were so busy, you hardly felt like you had the time to dethaw before having to rush onto your next duty. Faramir had requested for you to stay close, to stay in the city so that you could help him in his role of Steward. This meant that you had a lot of responsibilities around here, which meant a lot of running around. You hadn’t even had the the time to go back to your room and fetch your cloak as soon as you realized that the weather had turned. So around in your normal day-to-day attire that you had worn throughout the leaves turning and the sky darkening, you were rushing. But at the first break that you had, you went out to the stables to check on your horse - something that you came to regret because the wind had picked up and even getting out to them was a devastating task.
Tumblr media
“Whoa there-” A familiar voice said as you entered the stables. Your former fiance, the stable master. Of course he would be in there today of all days when you were hoping to just feed your animal an apple and then move on with the rest of your day. “You look like you’ve just popped out of the ice.”
“Maybe I have,” You said, picking one of the apples out of the barrel, fresh from the Autumn and walked towards the stall that had been designated as yours. He followed you, pitchfork in hand, tossing some more hay into your horse’s trough. Lothuialdaer - named after the Sindarin words for Twilight Blossom and Groom - the horse that had brought you to Minas Tirith in the first place. The one who was meant to bring you to your groom - the handsome man standing beside you. “Winter feels like it’s come early this year.”
“Not so good for the crops,” He admitted. “I was out there last night to help the salt the meat. It’s going to be a rough year. How do you think Faramir and the King are going to handle it?”
“The way that they handle everything - acutely and with a lot of thought behind it,” You said, defending your friend, and defending your King. Bregdan should have known better than to ask something like that. It’s the main reason why your engagement did not work out, and why you were back to being a Maiden rather than a married woman. He had so much doubt in the world. His negativity - it brought you down to levels that you were never comfortable with.
You turned your attention back towards the horse, watching as it chewed the apple right out of your hand. It’s breath came out like a steam from it’s nostrils, large teeth being careful around your skin. Something warm came over your shoulders, the familiar smell of your ex’s sweat upon it. Not strong. Not horrible. Just - making it musky. The warm fur over the shoulders to keep the cold at bay. Working outside, he had to bring out his winters early.
“Just ‘til you’re able to run in and get your own. I’ll be expectin’ it back before the night is out,” Bregdan stated. It would only get colder as the dark would approach, so you stepped back from your horse after giving him a few more strokes on the head.
“I’ll go get it now. I’ve got a busy afternoon ahead of me,” You sighed. “I’ll be back soon. Don’t freeze while I’m gone.”
“I freeze even when you’re here, coldheart,” He said, reminding you of the name that he had given you during the rough break up. While you started to feel your face going red, he would laugh. Bastard. “That should help ta keep your warm on your walk back up to your royal room.”
“Oh - you keep your mouth shut, Stable Boy,” You said, pointing a finger at him, and then set on your stride to walk back towards the castle with it’s round and windy stairways to get up to your rooms. You were nearly there when you noticed a figure standing, leaning against the waist-high wall, looking down upon the stables. You immediately stopped and gave the Steward a bow of your head. “Lord Faramir.”
“How many times do I have to ask you to just refer to me as Faramir? We are friends, are we not?” He asked, turning aside, little snowflakes clinging to his sand-colored hair.
Tumblr media
“I wasn’t sure if you had any of your subjects hiding around a corner,” You teased, crossing your arms, the thick cloak covering them. “You know how their tongues start wagging when I don’t give you the proper title. Why, the cook even chastisized me for it when I called you Faramir during dinner. I wonder what would happen if I were to call you Farry - or Mir?”
“I shudder at the thought,” Faramir said, though it looked like he had something on his mind. He was not joking around the same as he usually did when it was just the two of you.
“What is on your mind?” You asked, stepping in closer, looking over the wall yourself. You could see Bregdan working down there. Pulling on some reigns. Getting one of the horses out so that their shoes could be replaced. He was looking cold. Of course he was. You were wearing his warmth. You had nearly forgotten.
“Why are you wearing Bregdan’s cloak?” Faramir asked the question as you were reminded of it. “Actually, why were you speaking to him at all? After everything that you had gone through?” His face held no hint of a smile. “He looked concerned moreso than curious.
“I didn’t realize that it was going to be so frigid today,” You admitted, watching the horse move along. “I thought I would visit Lothuialdaer and caught a chill. Am I breaking some sort of law here, Faramir?”
“Of course not,” He said, not looking at you any longer. Glaring down at Bregdan, you noticed. He had always been quite protective of you, and never approved of the stable master as an appropriate match. But he was still glaring despite the fact that the engagement had been broken off for quite some time now. “I just worry about you around him is all.”
“Why?” You asked, raising an eyebrow. “Has he said anything that would make you think that he would hurt me? I don’t see him as the violent type. Brusque and with brutish opinions, yes, but never hands-on.”
“No, he wouldn’t be stupid enough to tell me that he would hurt you, for the whole city knows I would cut off his hands myself,” Faramir said, a sting in his voice that made you raise an eyebrow. You could feel the wamrth of the fire that Bregdan ignited inside of him. That angry rash of fire. He had hints of his father’s temper.
“Then what is it? What is offending you so that it’s actually preventing me from from going to my room and changing into my own cloak?” You asked. His blue eyes darted back to your face, to the fur mantle, and then right back down.
“Go change, and I’ll walk down with you to return it.”
“Always so secretive,” You said, brushing past him as you went to your own room. It only took a few moments to switch from the overly-large cloak that was a burden on your shoulders, to one that was more fitting of your size, but just as warm. You folded your ex’s cloak into a bundle to make it easier to carry, and left your room again to see Faramir leaning against the wall, right next to your door. “Someone’s impatient. Does his cloak offend you that much?”
“Around your shoulders, it does,” Faramir said, taking you aback. You didn’t say anything about it however, though you were stewing on those words. It should be obvious what it means, there were some immediate thoughts, or rather, hopes, on what it could have meant.
“Are you angry that it’s another man’s cloak, or that it’s Bregdan’s in particular?” You asked, stirring the pot, just a little.
“What’s that supposed to mean?” Faramir asked, his voice not sounding at all like his fair-spoken self. He was walking at a brisk pace. You had to hurry your own smaller feet along to keep up. The wind kept attempting to blow your hood down, and so you had to hold a hand up to keep it from descending.
“What reason has he given you to hate him so? Just because we were not a match doesn’t mean that he is a bad man, Faramir.”
“What if I gave you my cloak to wear on these colder days?” Faramir asked, changing the subject. “Would that be fitting?”
“As warm and soft as I know your cloaks to be, that would be inappropriate. You are the Steward of Gondor, and I’m an unmarried woman. “Do you really want to spread that sort of gossip throughout the city? It’s bad enough that we are friends.”
“I do not care what people say,” Faramir grunted. You sighed and walked along side him down the steps to get down to the grass, a lot on your mind about this, mainly confusion.
“Does it bother you that it is because it is him, or because I am borrowing a man’s cloak?” You finally asked. He stopped two stairs below you, turning his head so that his bright blue eyes were taking you in.
“Both,” He finally decided. “It’s both. Are you thinking of ... becoming engaged to him again?”
“Oh, no, definitely not,” You shook your head with a laugh. “I would never have those thoughts. But Faramir, forgive me if I’m overstepping here but - you sound almost ... jealous.”
You weren’t meaning about you, specifically. But about being engaged in general. You worried that he was lonely. He should be married. He should have had kids by now. That expectation to continue the family line was on his shoulders, especially with his brother having died in battle. It was something that he never opened up about, but he might now.
His cheeks were pink, and it didn’t seem like it had anything to do with the cold. You stepped down, one careful step, and then two to be on his level. To be right beside him. “You know you can talk to me,” You assured.
“I don’t like you being around him,” Faramir said, more like a grumble than anything. “You deserve better. You’ve always deserved better.”
Tumblr media
“Well, I’m glad we can both agree on that,” You smiled. “Don’t you worry about a thing, Faramir. There is no chance of an engagement with that fool of a man again.”
“It relieves my heart to hear that,” He said, breathing out slowly. “You - you deserve the world, y/n. I’ve always thought so.”
He was being so sweet, like the cakes that you sometimes asked the cooks to prepare on special occasions when sugar was available. It was making you smile. “As do you. But you take your time and make sure that in you’re in love, not giving into pressure.”
“Yes,” Faramir said, giving you another glance over. Another one that made you flush. Like he could see right through you. See the real you. “I’m making sure.”

So, I Hear You Liked: 1917
More World War One Films
I was very excited about 1917 when it first came out because it almost perfectly coincided with the 100th anniversary of the First World War, a conflict that I love to read about, write about, and watch movies about. This period is my JAM, and there's such a lot of good content for when you're done with Sam Mendes's film.
Obviously there are a lot of movies and TV shows out there - this is just a selection that I enjoyed, and wish more people knew about.
Note: Everyone enjoys a show or movie for different reasons. These shows are on this list because of the time period they depict, not because of the quality of their writing, the accuracy of their history or the political nature of their content. Where I’m able to, I’ve mentioned if a book is available if you’d like to read more.
I'd like to start the list with a movie that isn't a fiction piece at all - Peter Jackson's They Shall Not Grow Old (2019) is a beautifully produced film that allows the soldiers and archival images themselves, lovingly retimed and tinted into living color, to tell their own story. It is a must watch for anyone interested in the period.
Wings (1927), All Quiet on the Western Front (1930), A Farewell to Arms (1932, 1957), The Dawn Patrol (1938), Sergeant York (1941), and Paths of Glory (1957) are all classics with a couple of Oscars between them, and it's sort of fun to watch how the war gets changed and interpreted as the years pass. (The Dawn Patrol, for instance, might as just as easily be about the RAF in World War 2.)
All Quiet is based on a famous memoir, and A Farewell to Arms on a Hemingway novel; both have several adaptations and they're all a little different. Speaking of iconic novels, Doctor Zhivago (1965) based on the Pasternak novel of the same title, examines life of its protagonist between 1905 and the start of the second World War.
I think one thing historians agree on is that the start of World War One is worth discussing - and that there's a lot of backstory. Fall of Eagles (1974), a 13 part BBC miniseries, details the relationships between the great houses of Europe, starting in the 1860s; it's long but good, and I think might be on YouTube. The Last Czars (2019) takes a dramatized look at the Romanovs and how their reactions to the war lead to their eventual demise.
As far as the war itself, Sarajevo (2014) and 37 Days (2014) both discuss the outbreak of hostilities and the slow roll into actual battle.
The Passing Bells (2014) follows the whole war through the eyes of two soldiers, one German and one British, beginning in peacetime.
Joyeux Noel ( 2005) is a cute story - it takes place early in the war during the Christmas Peace and approaches the event from a multinational perspective.
War Horse (2011) is, of course, a name you'll recognize. Based on the breakout West End play, which is itself based on a YA novel by Michael Morpurgo, the story follows a horse who's requisitioned for cavalry service and the young man who owns him. Private Peaceful (2012) is also based on a Morpurgo novel, but I didn't think it was quite as good as War Horse.
The Wipers Times (2013) is one of my all-time favorites; it's about a short lived trench paper written and produced by soldiers near Ypres, often called Wipers by the average foot soldier. The miniseries, like the paper, is laugh out loud funny in a dark humor way.
My Boy Jack (2007) is another miniseries based on a play, this one about Rudyard Kipling and his son, Jack, who served in the Irish Guards and died at Loos. Kipling later wrote a poem about the death of his son, and helped select the phrase that appears on all commonwealth gravestones of the First World War.
Gallipoli (1981) is stunning in a way only a Peter Weir movie can be; this is a classic and a must-see.
Gallipoli is a big story that's been told and retold a lot. I still haven't seen Deadline Gallipoli (2015) an Australian miniseries about the men who wrote about the battle for the folks back home and were subject to censorship about how bad things really were. For a slightly different perspective, the Turkish director Yesim Sezgin made Çanakkale 1915 in 2012, detailing the Turkish side of the battle. Although most of The Water Diviner (2014) takes place after the war is over, it also covers parts of Gallipoli and while it didn't get great reviews, I enjoy it enough to own it on DVD.
I don't know why all of my favorite WWI films tend to be Australian; Beneath Hill 60 (2010) is another one of my favorites, talking about the 1st Australian Tunneling Company at the Ypres Salient. The War Below (2021) promises to tell a similar story about the Pioneer companies at Messines, responsible for building the huge network of mines there.
Passchendaele (2008) is a Canadian production about the battle of the same name. I'd forgotten I've seen this film, which might not say very much for the story.
Journey's End (2017) is an adaptation of an RC Sheriff play that takes place towards the end of the war in a dugout amongst British officers.
No look at the Great War is complete without a nod to developing military technologies, and this is the war that pioneers the aviation battle for us. I really wish Flyboys (2006) was better than it is, but The Red Baron (2008) makes up for it from the German perspective.
One of the reasons I like reading about the First World War is that everyone is having a revolution. Technology is growing by leaps and bounds, women are fighting for the right to vote, and a lot of colonial possessions are coming into their own, including (but not limited to) Ireland. Rebellion (2016) was a multi-season miniseries that went into the Easter Rising, as well as the role the war played there. Michael Collins (1996) spends more time with the Anglo-Irish war in the 1920s but is still worth watching (or wincing through Julia Roberts' bad accent, you decide.) The Wind that Shakes the Barley covers the same conflict and is excellent.
The centennial of the war meant that in addition to talking about the war, people were also interested in talking about the Armenian Genocide. The Promise (2016) and The Ottoman Lieutenant (2017) came out around the same time and two different looks at the situation in Armenia.
This is a war of poets and writers, of whom we have already mentioned a few. Hedd Wynn ( 1992) which is almost entirely in Welsh, and tells the story of Ellis Evans, a Welsh language poet who was killed on the first day of the Battle of Passchendaele. I think Ioan Gruffudd has read some of his poetry online somewhere, it's very pretty. A Bear Named Winnie (2004) follows the life of the bear who'd become the inspiration for Winnie the Pooh. Tolkien (2019) expands a little on the author's early life and his service during the war. Benediction (2021) will tell the story of Siegfried Sassoon and his time at Craiglockhart Hospital. Craiglockhart is also represented in Regeneration (1997) based on a novel by Pat Barker.
Anzac Girls (2014) is probably my favorite mini-series in the history of EVER; it follows the lives of a group of Australian and New Zealand nurses from hospital duty in Egypt to the lines of the Western Front. I love this series not only because it portrays women (ALWAYS a plus) but gives a sense of the scope of the many theatres of the war that most movies don't. It's based on a book by Peter Rees, which is similarly excellent.
On a similar note, The Crimson Field (2014) explores the lives of members of a Voluntary Aid Detachment, or VADs, lady volunteers without formal nursing training who were sent to help with menial work in hospitals. It only ran for a season but had a lot of potential. Testament of Youth (2014) is based on the celebrated memoirs of Vera Brittain, who served as a VAD for part of the war and lead her to become a dedicated pacifist.
Also, while we're on the subject of women, though these aren't war movies specifically, I feel like the additional color to the early 20th century female experience offered by Suffragette (2015) and Iron-Jawed Angels (2004) is worth the time.
As a general rule, Americans don't talk about World War One, and we sure don't make movies about it, either. The Lost Battalion (2001) tells the story of Major Charles Whittlesey and the 9 companies of the 77th Infantry division who were trapped behind enemy lines during the battle of the Meuse Argonne.
I should add that this list is curtailed a little bit by what's available for broadcast or stream on American television, so it's missing a lot of dramas in other languages. The Road to Calvary (2017) was a Russian drama based on the novels of Alexei Tolstoy. Kurt Seyit ve Şura (2014) is based on a novel and follows a love story between a Crimean officer (a Muslim) and the Russian woman he loves. The show is primarily in Turkish, and Kıvanç Tatlıtuğ, who plays the lead, is *very* attractive.
Finally, although it might seem silly to mention them, Upstairs Downstairs (1971-1975 ) Downton Abbey (2010-2015) and Peaky Blinders (2013-present) are worth a mention and a watch. All of them are large ensemble TV shows that take place over a much longer period than just the Great War, but the characters in each are shaped tremendously by the war.

The songs he wrote include “ Taxman,” While My Guitar Gently Weeps,” and one of my favorites, “ Here Comes the Sun.”He was one of the first members of the groups looking to work on his music a branch out to new and different sounds. He briefly left the group while recording the album, Let I Be. but he came after much convincing from the other three. 1988. He collaborated with several artists, including his former bandmate Ringo Starr, Billy Preston, Eric Clapton, and Tom Petty, most notably Ravi Shankar.
