I really appreciate coming to your blog, to be honest for me its like a healing balm after even just skimming and scrolling others feelings on all of this. I feel like sometimes people are so unreasonable and it hurts to see people "taking sides" at all with this situation.

All Ive ever cared about with this issue is the facts. The fact that a lot of workers got screwed over and instead of buckling down and talking to people QStudios would rather it all just stop happening, make changes and not acknowledge what they did. But somehow they "cant talk about it" otherwise they would be "complicate" as if they were expecting people to sue them before anyone was even suggesting that?

Everyone is acting like legality is so important as if the people who first stepped up about all of this were instigating lawsuits when thats only happening NOW because they refused to say anything! Its like...why did they have to be "careful with what they say for legal reasons" when no one was threating to sue them. Almost as if they KNEW what they were doing was considered illegal and DID have grounds for legal recourse. If not then why not make ANY statement? Why be so scared to say anything at the beginning? It just dosnt make any sense. I mean even the Union was like "we dont wanna sue you just talk to your workers" at first!

I think my immediate reaction on finishing part 1 was like

loved the art, loved the characters def feel like the story has a lot further to go thematically, only really picked up for me with the reveal of the gun devil

I now think CSM's strength in the early arcs is the patience of the construction of Denji as an everyman resisting the reality that the promised capitalist horizon he imagines is a lie.

now that you can tell the horrible direction my thoughts are going in I will continue under the cut, this is so long oh god. cw: canon typical violence, sexual assault etc.

Initially the repeated invocation of wanting to kiss a girl and eat a good meal as ultimate dreams and Denji being presented as an idiot for it felt like a cheap way for readers to get to root for him in a very Naruto sort of way yk? Poor orphan boy wants a basic life. This is disrupted right from the start ofc, starting with the Himeno's assault and Makima's whole deal. I think this construction becomes more valuable in part 2 when with Nayuta there is a very intentional attempt to construct a family, where the horizon is a normality that includes saving up for college. Nayuta's resistance to some of it becomes more interesting than just jealousy or protection imo.

I think the complications of the "workplace" as it functions for Denji in part 1, living quite literally under Aki's supervision with Power invokes the very familiar team as family stuff under threat. The explicit knowledge of how he has exchanged one debtor for another is v effective especially when they take care of Power. You have him and the readers being forced to confront that purpotedly transactional relationships do not exclude the sort for the simple honesty of care we idealise. And that the care will be weaponised anyway. Aki's abortive attempt to opt out is chef's kiss.

The reveal of the use of the gun devil by nation states might functionally be the first moment Denji is forced to acknowledge the complicated incentives of the Bureau. You get to link the exploitation of people to the more obvious rot in liberal institutions. Part 2 then ratchets this up with the discourses on propaganda and mass participation.

I thought the "Killing of Makima" involving the use of the Bureau insiders led by the old man leaned a little too much on their heroism, vibes wise but I also get why narratively that needs to be done. Which is why Kobeni is so important to me lol. The art and creativity on display at the end of Part 1 was like gorging yourself on one of those early pictures of Paradise. The apartment scene could get read as Makima's personal cruelty but I think it's just making explicit the cruel seductions of modernity etc etc. As a violation of Denji esp. it is almost complete, structurally taking the form of kink and the parody of care after. Mwah.

With that, the reconciliation of Denji's past and present when his past in debt bondage is also constructed with the societal complicity about domestic violence becomes delicious. Nayuta is reborn out of a cannibalism not really done in the service of personal survival and def not out of a commitment to self sacrificing heroism.

I'm excited for Part 2, Asa esp lets you get at some of the same neuroses Denji has as a teenager but from a gendered perspective. Her relationship with Yuko is some of the strongest bit of writing about bullying and justice I have read in a while. I've enjoyed the lead up to Fami and War's apocalypse so far, but their motivations are still a little inscrutable and fallback on devils, wyd? despite their sisterhood. I think Fujimoto's focus seems to be the public discourses around devils in this arc, so thats probably why it feels like that but I'm personally always interested in all of it.

before we talk about bmc lets set the stage a bit: usagi has just defeated the dark kingdom no more than a week ago (its unclear how much time passes btwn the two arcs but i can’t imagine its longer than a week, or even a couple days, as we see usamamo exchange their keepsakes at the end of act 14, something they promised they’d do the next time they saw each other during act 8, which means that this must be the first time theyve seen each other since defeating the dark kingdom, which again, i cant imagine took longer than a couple days) which means she has just experienced: watching her boyfriend die in front of her, being overloaded with a host of tragic memories from her past life (one of them including watching her boyfriend die and killing herself), her boyfriend getting brainwashed, having to kill her boyfriend because there was no getting through to him, killing herself due to the aforementioned trauma, and finally finding out her friends died— sacrificing themselves for her to bring her back. so thats all Crazy we can agree that is crazy for a 14 year old girl to go through? right? okay? good.

now that we’ve agreed on that can you imagine a little girl falling out of a large portal in the sky then threatening you with a GUN (fake sure but she didnt know that originally) and demanding you hand over the overpowered magical artifact you JUST endured all that trauma trying to protect? and then that same girl brainwashes your family? obviously usagi isnt going to trust chibiusa right away. i mean look at what she’s working with, and then when she tries to bring up these concerns no one believes her. i mean sure WE as the audience know chibiusa isnt a threat, and the others think she isnt because they cant see a little girl as particularly threatening but when you look at things from usagis perspective, then OBVIOUSLY she’d be suspicious— i mean she repeatedly refuses to answer any sort of questions (obviously this is not chibiusas fault, shes a scared child and the questioning terrifies her further, but again, think about this from usagis perspective). and again id like to reiterate that all of this is directly after the dark kingdom, usagi hasn’t had any time to heal from those fresh fresh emotional scars Of Course she’s a bit irrational.

now, to the topic at hand, was usagis jealousy really just that? regular jealousy at seeing mamoru spending time with someone who isnt her (even if the person in question was a small child that logically posed no threat to her relationship)?

obviously i dont think so, but let me prove to you its not just simple irrational jealousy but also usagis ptsd and specifically her abandonment issues that are what cause her to react in the way she does.

again, id like to remind the jury of the shit usagi has just gone through and how that all has caused usagi to develop some very serious abandonment issues. we see usagis worst fear(s) represented in nightmare sequences a handful of times throughout the series. exactly twice actually, once in infinity and once in dream and each have the shared theme of her loved ones leaving her in some way. in infinity they turn against her and berate her before ultimately dying, and in dream they’re simply dead. again both times it is very clear that the root of what she fears is abandonment.

these abandonment issues however, first begin to present themselves in arc 2. we even get a nightmare sequence in arc 2 similar to those of arcs 3&4. most interpret this as usagi just being jealous usagi. however really look at it, its not that she’s just afraid of mamoru being taken away by chibiusa, she’s afraid of them both abandoning her. look at what she says “wait! where are you going? dont leave me behind!” (or “wait! where are you going? dont leave me here!” in the eternal edition, i prefer the crystal translation simply because it makes it more explicit her issue is them leaving her alone) if it truly truly was an issue of jealousy why would she be afraid of them both leaving her behind? why say something like that? wouldnt it make more sense to say something like…. i dunno “chibiusa? dont take him from me!” instead?

once again, everything she goes through in arc 1 is a big contributor in this, however recall arc 2 begins with the senshi being picked off one-by-one (all except minako), and usagi can do nothing but watch and it eats her up inside. she quite literally begins to lose everyone dear to her all over again even while the last time is still so fresh in her mind.

and during most of this what does chibiusa do? she stays secretive, doesnt give usagi any information even when usagi tells her she cant trust her if she doesnt. (again i wanna reiterate that this is no fault of chibiusas however its not usagis fault either) so of course usagi begins to register chibiusa as a threat, and again with the information she has + her inarguable connection to the black moon clan this isnt a logical leap in the slightest.

thus when mamoru begins to spend more time with chibiusa instead of her it causes two things to happen. a) usagi is left without the emotional support she desperately needs in all of this (through no fault of mamoru, he completely misreads what usagi needs in this particular situation, he thinks that by helping with chibiusa it’ll ease her stress to have one less thing off her plate, however of course we know this does the opposite) and b) she begins to register chibiusa as a genuine threat to mamorus safety. usagis terrified of losing him all over again when she just got him back. look at this scene, i mean really truly look at it. look at what usagis saying, this doesnt sound like the ramblings of a jealous girlfriend it sounds like someone who’s terrified of losing their most important person all over again. “stay here with me. never go away. ill do everything i can to protect you…” (or “…i wanna be with you. dont go away. ill protect you with everything i have” in crystal, here i prefer the eternal edition again bc i think it more explicitly defines usagis problem) these lines just don’t make sense under the simple jealousy interpretation, what does protecting him have anything to do with envy at the time hes spending with chibiusa and not with her? nothing. shes not upset at that, she puts emphasis on protecting him because thats the true root of the problem, shes afraid of losing him again to yet another supernatural threat after the crystal.

and to close out id like to show everyone the viz dub version of this scene because i think it sums up my points incredibly well, as well as making it abundantly clear what the root of usagis problems Really are, specifically through the inclusion of the line “i wont lose you again”

next thing that happens thats kinda Altering the norm for them is that philippa’s captain betrays starfleet and shes ordered into extended medical leave after being forcefully augmented by her captain. i gotta mention like, philippa and captain sh'eraz have been working together for a bit, their last mission as a captain and XO was to retrieve this lost/dead warship aka the Vesuvius that was stolen by augments early on into starfleet's history and subsequently altered/enhanced. it's kinda a lost relic of a ship, but its augmentations have been a quiet looming threat that starfleet has wanted to obtain and CONTAIN.

but captain sh'eraz augments philippa before escaping capture. (shes either like, with some augments or romulans or something idk yet lol) ANYWAY philippa cant go to Jace during this time bc her augmented and in general thoughts are exceptionally difficult to be around as a telepath, her family isnt an option for her (stubborn?? theyre overwhelmjng to her and shes like, augmented and lashes out and keeps crying all the time, she doesnt want anyone to see her in this state tbh) i think shed end up going to JJ’s for a bit and he offers to take her off world to the planet he’s doing engineering work on. its swampy kinda similar to the planet she was born on. it takes her some time to come to terms with her circumstances, she may never get better, she may be stuck like this and never be allowed back into starfleet, and i think jj would help her with maybe seeing a bigger picture of helping people or something idk. her augmented brain for a while kinda has a knack for equations and blue printing and problem solving so they work on engineering jobs together that shed never have been able to have helped on prior to the augmentation. i figure she gradually learns to relax and let her body heal, eventuslly she starts regressing both mentally and physically back into her old state. like to think she picks up swimming as a hobby, something she never indulged all too frequently before, but shes getting more in touch with her amphibious tendencies while here. eventually they finish their work on the planet and go back, and philippa continues her recovery on earth.

for a time she’s still not 100% back to recovery but shes calmed down and she sees her family and can manage seeing jace now without being mentally A LOT for her betazoid friend. i figure around this time, kathryn is sticking her nose in the revival project for the Vesuvius (or maybe overseeing it?) which is the ancient starship philippa retrieved. thought that she might discreetly recruit JJ to work on the project, not disclosing anything to philippa though. reasoning behind why he gets involved being his experience working with older dated systems and starships, theyre trying to figure out how to deal with the augmentations built into the old ship.

EVENTUALLY, revival project finishes, peppa's probably tried to squeeze information out of her mother and friend for a while but it hasnt worked. Philippa returns to starfleet after her extended medical leave and gets promoted to captain and given the Vesuvius as a new experimental ship, the Legacy.

JJ is given a field commission for a bit, im thinking lieutenant? 🤔 aboard the Legacy to make sure the transition is seamless and nothing breaks, so him and philippa get some time to actually work together in starfleet. :) their overarching goal is to find and aprehend captain sh’eraz but as is the case with most starfleet things, they get caught up in side quests along the way lol. one thing of note for me during this time is like, the Legacy is full of surprises, things missed in its inspection and revival process. philippa had a weeeird intuitive knack for dealing with the augmented stuff on the ship, likely a phantom limb type vibe from her augmentation. she tries to play it down how instinctively she knows how things should work, likely confides in JJ that its something shes dealing with and playing down. as the chief engineer(?) he can kinda go with it, but theyre very “need to know” with each other about the augment stuff. i can imagine a lot of their adventures involve the Legacy doing something augmented and weird and unpredictable and them trying to figure out what its trying to do or tell them.

i dont know if hed still be around by the time philippa is confronting/pursuing her ex-captain, maybe they get the hang of the Legacy eventually and he goes home, new chief engineer comes on in his stead. i kinda want ummmm philippa alone and a little wet cat a and a little obsessed with her mission without much support surrounding her. :3c i also just think theyd pick up writing to each other again and shed miss having him around, so it gives room for THAT. but moidrah sh’eraz gets either captured or killed (idk whats more poignant yet lol) and i think its be traumatic and shes return home to earth and MAYBE see jj and be defeated and cry about it lalala its vague in my head rn.

also I'm a SLUT for talking about The Crown Found in Rose Thorns, okay haha. It's secretly a favorite despite not being big or popular. I have plans in my head of the next few sections, but I'm still trying to figure out the order, how I want to go about it, etc so writing hasn't happened but I'm hoping I break my block soon!

Damian was injured by defending Jon! The 'hunters' were anti-magic/Zod and his army. While Damian has the ABILITY to do magic, genetically, I don't plan on having him ever do so. HOWEVER, the 'magic in his blood' thing IS the reason Ra's is a threat to him, for similar vessel-y things to canon I guess you could say.

So, Jon and Damian weren't necessarily close as children, they just met that day of the event. (Though Damian did have a habit of sneaking out to "mingle with commoners" etc) The batfam don't know Jon from the past, but they know OF Jon. Or at least, Bruce does. Alfred told Bruce of the boy in the woods that he saw when they found Damian, but that's about it. Bruce knows of Alfred's belief that it was because of Jon, but he has his doubts, since he didn't see Jon for himself, so is kind of under the idea himself that it was because Damian was his son that he was attacked. You know, normal royal family problems. That's also what all the siblings assume. They probably don't know about Jon at all.

Also I don't remember if I ever said anywhere - but Damian doesn't remember the day he met Jon. The injuries he sustained gave him amnesia of the entire day, so he knows that it happened, but doesn't actually remember. The injuries were also from being trampled by the horses, mostly. Thats why he's on a road when Alfred finds him.

I promise I'm working on the next part haha. Or at least, I'm thinking about it a lot 😂

lonely. that's how you feel right now. jisung is away on a business trip leaving you alone in your shared apartment. the first few days were fine. you could do what you want and not have to worry about another person.

however, as minutes turned to hours and hours turned to days, you started to feel the affect or being apart from your loved one.

your apartment felt so big, your shared bed feeling twice the size of what it is. you miss having to pick up Jisung's dirty clothing off the floor and watching him whine and pout whilst begging you to do something for him.

you feel empty and cold. the days are long and the nights are cold. every time you reach out to Jisung's side, you're welcomed by cold sheets – a harsh reminder that he's not there.

you sit cross legged in front of your laptop, holding a plushie close to your chest. your bedroom is lit up with fairy lights, hair wet and dressed in your pjs. you just took a shower, doing your nightly routine and now, you await for Jisung's call.

30 minutes. 1 hour. 1 hour and 30 minutes. time tick ticks away, the feeling of loneliness settling in your stomach. you're about to give up, tears threating to spill from your eyes when Jisung calls you!

“baby!!” Jisung's cheerful voice booms through the bedroom. He too, is also sat in a hotel bed in nothing but sweats. his hair wet, a towel around his shoulders.

“sungie.” you whisper, feeling a sense of relief.

“how's my fave bean?” he giggles. you blush, smiling softly at him.

“im okay.” you lie.

“just okay? not great or fantastic?” you shake your head no. “whys that bub?”

“oh.. no reason..” you chew your bottom lip, your anxiety slowly taking over your whole being.

“bub.” jisung leans in close to the camera, his voice soft but stern. “i know you better than anyone else. don't lie to me. it's me you're taking to.”

you allowed your walls to break and crumble, the floodgates opening. you let out broke sobs and wails, clinging to your plushie.

“sh sh sh baby. it's okay, Sungie's here.” jisung soothes over the camera. his heart breaking into a million pieces. he hates seeing you like this and wants nothing more than to hold you close and rock you from side to side.

“has something bad happened to you bub?” you shake your head no, “have you fallen out with a friend or something?”

you shake your head no once more, before taking deep breaths to calm your breathing, like jisung taught you to do.

“i-i just miss you... I miss you so badly, it hurts Sungie...” you say through broken sobs. jisung chews on his bottom lip, his eyebrows furrowing. he looks pained, his heart shattering over and over again.

“just a few more days bub, that's all and you'll be back in my arms again.”

“b-but I want you n-now!!” frustrated tears fall down your cheeks before wiping them away with the back of your hand.

“i know bub... I know and I'm sorry I'm not there for you, but you have to hold on just that lil bit longer. can you do that for me, bub?”

you cling to your plushie even tighter, squishing it close to your chest. you press your lips together in a thin line, sniffling before nodding slowly.

“thats my darling. I promised you I will text and call you day and night, up until my trip is over.”

“i know Sungie, but it still sucks.” you mumble. jisung chuckles softly, nodding in agreement.

“i know bub. but we will be together again soon, I promise.” you nod, wiping your eyes gently with the back of your hand. you let out a small yawn, your small breakdown making you feel fatigue.

“get some sleep, darling.”

“but wanna... wanna spend time with you.” you whisper.

“and we will, but right now, you need some rest, bub. can you lie down for me? lie down for your Sungie?” you nod, getting under the duvet and resting your head on your pillow.

you position the laptop so jisung can still see you, a soft smile on his lip as he watches you cuddle your plushie, his heart melting at the adorable sight.

“yes my love?”

little hope review *SPOILERS*

i was gonna write this ages ago and i literally forgot about this lmao but i promised the two people who are interested in these reviews that i would write another and tbh i find these really fun lol.

(reminder that this review is in no way professional, it is just my personal opinion and a bit of fun)

(side note i will only be talking about the theatrical cut)

PROLOGUE

this prologue was really interesting for me, both parts. i love that they didnt actually show any of the bus driver and it gave a really good mysterious aspect to the town of little hope, especially with the state trooper warning the bus driver about the town.

omg i cant even begin to say how much i enjoyed the second part of the prologue. the character building of the 80s family is so good. it established the dynamics of the group brilliantly without it being too obvious what the actual plot will be. i also likes that it kind of left you in the dark of whats going on, almost connecting itself to the first part of act one.

quick side note, i just learned that the choice you make on how tanya should escape the fire (going down the drainpipe or going through the window) directly affects taylors and tabithas deaths e.g if you chose the drainpipe like i did taylors demon will be the hanged demon and tabitha will be hanged and if you chose the window taylors demon will be the burned demon and tabitha will be burned at the stake.

ACT ONE

if im being completely honest i really didnt like taylor in the beginning lol. but i think thats a good thing. i mean its boring as fuck to play a game where you like every single character and none of them have flaws (this is also why i have a mixed relationship with locked traits but ill talk about that later).

okay lets talk about the pacing. when i first played little hope i thought that by the time i finished act one i thought i had ALSO finished act two. i think that says everything that needs to be said.... but seriously act one was way too long. this seems to be a theme in the early dark pictures games, like i said in my man of medan review.

i do think that the introductions to the characters were done really well though because even though almost of the characters had relationships previously to the game you could still develop or break any of them during the game. even when youre still in the first few chapters you can affect ,for example, taylor and daniels relationship drastically only with a few choices.

(i know this because i accidently got their relationship to like under halfway with like three choices 😭)

ACT TWO

what do you mean the supposed main bit of the story is the shortest section in the game? what do you mean it has less than half of the amount of chapters act one has? WHAT DO YOU MEAN????

in all seriousness, i completely forgot about some of the chapters in this act like 'lost' and 'troubled history' but on the other hand it also gave us one of the most memorable chapters in the game 'surrounded'. this is actually baffling to me because how do you make the most boring sections of the game immediately move onto one of the chapters i enjoyed most? its just quite inconsistent so now in my memory i can only really remember the bus crash, the bridge, the church and the house. and can i just add that only one those segments is in act two, which i think is supposed to be the main part of the story.

although, i did really enjoy the demons in this act and i think the developers did a great job of introducing the demons (the only gripe i have with it is that they were introduced quite late into the story but i think i feel that way because act one was so long and the demons were only introduced in the ending chapter of act one). i feel its a massive improvement to man of medan when they were trying to introduce two threats at the same time with one taking a backseat almost as fast as it was introduced.

i also liked how all the characters got back together about halfway through act two and in a completely natural way as well. it doesnt feel forced or rushed it just feels normal and how i would expect a group of terrified civilians to act with each other.

ACT THREE

there seems to be a pattern in all of the acts in little hope. forgettable first halfs and memorable and incredibly fun second halfs. act three is no different.

i think the fact that i could remember almost everything that happened in the ending but i had to go back on the chapter wikis to remember any of the first two chapters says a lot.

honestly the start of this act just feels like a plot extender and an extra opportunity to get people killed. BUT THE ENDING OF THIS ACT I LOVE <3. i like that i takes a quick break from running away from the demons to develop the mary storyline (which i will ALSO talk about later) and the choices you make really do matter and they actually make the players think about the choices theyre making because the 'right' answer isnt clear throughout the game so youre really left in the dark and have to make the call completely off your own accord.

quick final bit before we get onto the ending, but i also love the segment when everyone is running away from their respective demons and john and angela are the last one out there. the reason i love this section so much is because it can really define how angela is as a character or how you want to play her, which can also affect the ending.

right. time to talk about 'full circle'. i dont think words could describe how fucking annoyed i was when i had kept everyone alive right until this chapter only for taylor and john to be killed because of a mechanic that i didnt even know existed. AND I KNOW FOR A FACT THERES MORE PEOPLE WHO EXPERIENECED THIS.

the locked traits mechanic is very cool, trust me, but the fact that it was never ,at least, given some hints that it would be the decider of the characters fate and that they were something that genuinely matter.

at first i thought that they were just pre-determined flaws that each character had lol.

THE END

little hope has a total of seven endings and i do actually want to touch on a few of them because holy shit some of them are insane 😭

the ending i got was: vince called the police and another protagonist was alive. this resulted in andrew being revealed to be anthony (like in all endings) and being taken away in a police car as it is also revealed that the other protagonists (in my case daniel and angela) were hallucinations.

i get why some people would hate this ending, i do too, only because the previous game also had the exact same plot twist??? and that is just so uncreative that they couldnt figure out a different ending to give to one of the games. in my opinion if they DID actually give a new ending to man of medan or little hope i would 100% want it to be man of medan, which i can now confidently say is my least favourite game made made by supermassive.

quick side note, ending 5 is fucking insane and if you got it on your first ever playthrough i would have loved to see your reaction lol.

for those who dont know what the fuck im talking about ill give a quick summary of ending 5.

to get this ending vince must have not have called the police, andrew has the gun and it has at least one bullet in it and mary had to have been excecuted. after the initial cutscene, andrew aims the gun at his temple. megan then appears behind andrew and screams at him, causing him to shoot himself. After it was revealed that andrew was anthony/the bus driver all along, his corpse is shown laying at the doorstep.

like what the fuck.

RANDOM SHIT

in all honesty i had no clue on what to pick regarding the mary situation. i think i chose like 4 different choices all contradicting each other in my playthrough, but seriously what is the objective 'right' path defending mary or killing her?

as for collectibles, i found i think 43 (?) secrets, all black pictures, 4-5 white pictures and the gold pictures. in this game it is already such and improvement to man of medans exploration system. for example, if opening a certain door or picking up a certain item the game will show you this '>>>>' which means it will move you onto the next segment and oh my god this has made exploration so mad more enjoyable and easier can i just say.

CONCLUSION

this game is miles better than man of medan. i enjoyed the aesthetic, gameplay, concept, characters (some more than others) and yeah it was overall a good game (not better than house of ashes though ;) )

I really hate to bring things like this to the TL again. But much like before, I am blocked by the account and cannot directly respond on there so, ill do my best without proper ss from the post.

Some of you by now may have seen a “call out” post by the CC creator Tomiochan. Now, while I do not condone death threats of any sort, none were ever sent to him directly, and instead a friend of mine used a joke in poor taste in a server that none of us are in any longer. As far as myself in those ss, I absolutely did call Tomio an “asshat”. Now whether it was my business or not, I felt as if the way he talked to his boyfriend when he made a mistake in the server to be super rude. I felt bad. Thus the reason I called him an asshat 😭 and I stand by that and anything else I said 100% because I can own up to my words.

Now before you go throwing stones at me, I said that in the comfort of a GC with people I felt were safe! Two of them I am no longer friends with which explains the screenshots now being brought to light. Was it wrong? Sure. Words are harsh. People certainly talk bad about me too in their own spaces. Nothing I can do about that. I was still respectful on spaces I shared with Tomio. Yes, I thought he was an asshole. No that doesn’t mean I thought he was a terrible person. white heart (made it red): THE FIRST ANADIL/AGATHA FIC, written for meg <3 an au, anadil character study, and anadil and agatha exploration. these two are actually so very very interesting and writing them was very fun. give me that anadil character baby

chivalry is on fire: post tlea, chaddick ravan beatrix and reena focused. gives the students a bit more depth, they play pranks and reminsce and make promises. good stuff, i love all four of them.

Rhodonite and Obsidian: I legitimately still think to this day this is one of the best things I've ever written. keian multi-chapter fic, in which I dive into Kei, his family, his relationship with Rhian, and his fate. you guys miss kate pumpkinpaperweight has this bookmarked. Essential Avengers: Avengers #283: "Whom the Gods Would DESTROY!”

September, 1987

I cannot WAIT to see what leads to this cover.

Because last time the Avengers and Namor were escaping Hades for Olympus on the Pathway of Infinity - which was more of a ramp - when Pluto blew the ramp pathway which he called a bridge and cornered the Avengers with his hell army and hell tanks to stop them escaping because his bro Zeus wants the Avengers tortured in Hades forever for letting Hercules get beaten into a coma.

How do they end up fighting weird golden ladies with knife swords? The Pathway of Infinity was kind of golden. Did it turn into people out of umbrage for being exploded?

Possibly, possibly.

And will they fight the golden ladies before or after or during fighting the hell army which surely won’t wait its turn as hell armies are famously pretty rude.

I guess we’ll see.

So first things first.

This cliffhanger gets resolved about as quickly as a Tenth Doctor cliffhanger.

Remember the ‘oh no we’re cornered by Cybermen!! Good thing I can blast them with this thing I have okay now lets get on with our lives.’

I know you just exist to cut a two-parter in half, cliffhanger!

Anyway, with the Avengers backed against the abyss, Pluto tells them that there’s no escape because when his hell army kills them, he’ll use his god of death powers to keep their souls tormented forever.

Then Captain Marvel decides to resolve the cliffhanger.

Wow, way to do, Monica Rambeau!

I’m being maybe a bit unfair. This doesn’t end the situation of the Avengers cornered by the hell army. But Captain Marvel blowing up all their tanks does drastically reduce the threat level of said hell army.

And the Avengers have already beaten up one thousands strong army during this stay in Hades.

Pluto regroups his hell army by promising “a year’s peace in blessed Elysium for each one who slays an Avenger!”

And I’m fascinated by how that works.

A year isn’t really much time for an eternity of death but it is super enticing to these dudes. Later, some of them risk (and suffer oblivion) because Elysium is just that good.

But imagine when the year runs out and someone shows up to drag you back to whatever tortures the rest of your eternity brings.

With all the tanks WHUM’d, the Avengers rush in to beat some dudes up.

Captain America notes (as he shatters some guy’s skull) that they don’t need to hold back because these dudes are dead dudes who can’t die.

While true, one wonders what the moral lines are regards to kicking the shit out of an immortal dude.

Anyway, She-Hulk being She-Hulk goes right for the big dude. She’s gonna throw down with Pluto.

She-Hulk: “Maybe I should give baldy here a taste of reality -- by, say, kicking his tail till his nose bleeds!”

Pluto: “You think to make sport of me, woman? Hah! None may touch the person of Pluto -- so long as the Hadean fires are mine to command!”

Now THATS some god of the underworld power more impressive than pew pew and tanks!

Don’t recall Pluto having HADEAN FIRE in the mythology, the Greek underworld being more of a dank, depressing cave than a fire and brimstone Hell but I’ll take what I can get.

She-Hulk has to back off from the burning ring of fire.

At another part of the fight, Thor is bummed that due to his non-healing injuries and lack of Mjolnir, he feels he’s lacking. Even compared to Doctor Druid who is just up and jump kicking dudes now.

But he gets his chance when Pluto gets mad that the Avengers are beating up his faceless mooks like they’re faceless mooks and uses his axe which shoots lasers to drop a giant rock toward the Avengers.

IT JUST SO HAPPENS that the rock Pluto tried to smoosh the Avengers with was the exact size and shape needed to plug the missing hole in the path.

Way to do the villain thing and give the heroes exactly what they need.

ALSO: this just occurred to me. Pluto’s torture for Thor was putting a giant rock block on him. And now, a giant rock is Thor’s salvation.

Dunno if that could possibly have been an intentional character beat but if so, neat.

Driven by the allure of Elysium’s not suck, some of Pluto’s army try to pursue the Avengers across the giant rock patch to the broken path. But a giant rock wedged into a hole isn’t the most stable thing and while the Avengers crossed to safety, several of the soldiers fall to oblivion.

Pluto gives up his pursuit, as the Avengers have crossed the midway point, leaving the territory that’s considered Hades and into the territory that’s considered Olympus. And Pluto’s power is limited outside of Hades because of his covenant with Zeus.

Thor leads the Avengers to a shimmering dimensional doorway that takes them off the PATHWAY OF INFINITY and into Olympus proper.

Upon which they are immediately accosted by some centaur guards and upon which Namor and She-Hulk immediately beat the crap out of the centaur guards.

Those poor horse men.

Did they ever stand a chance?

Neigh.

The Avengers regroup in the woods that Olympus apparently has.

Captain America tells the group that since they’re outnumbered and outpowered, their best hope is to convince Zeus to chill the hell out, that the Avengers weren’t responsible for Hercules’ injuries.

Black Knight comments that Zeus is pretty far from being all-knowing for a king of gods, prompting Thor to say that no, that’s not Zeus’ thing, his thing is fits of rage. And horniness, but Thor is too polite to say so.

Then the Mysterious Figure shows up to drop more exposition.

He’s less mysterious, not cloaked in shadows, not even cloaked in cloak. Just showing his beardy face. But still not introducing himself by name.

How rude of him.

He does introduce himself as a bringer of knowledge and then points at a pool to make it a scrying pool so the Avengers can catch some plot.

They see a scene of Zeus questioning Apollo on how long it will take him to heal Hercules. He is a god of healing but he’s finding Hercules’ coma maybe beyond his power.

Hercules mumbles in his coma/sleep “No, Wasp... no more orders... no more abuse from mortals... Avengers must learn...”

Zeus rededicates himself to that very mumble, promising he’ll punish every one of the Avengers for the wrongs done to Hercules.

Okay, so now we know where Zeus is getting his ideas from.

Apollo protests that maybe coma mumbles aren’t reliable. I mean... the Avengers helped Hercules beat Typon that time in issue 50 and helped when Ares turned the Olympians to crystal in issue 100.

Ares comes in to go nuh uh, that was the Ebony Blade what made him do that stuff and anyway, clearly the Avengers only helped those times because it aligned with their own interests.

Apollo points out that Ares is always causing trouble and disrupting the peace of Olympus and Ares goes what do you want from me, I’m the god of war. It’s what I do!

Zeus tells them both to shut up. He’s the big dad decision maker and he’s already decided.

Zeus: “I have decreed that the Avengers shall suffer for what has befallen your brother Hercules -- and suffer they shall! All who claim the mantle of Avenger shall know the tortures of Hades!”

END SCRYING VISION.

Mysterious Guy asks Captain America if he still thinks he can convince Zeus to be cool and Cap(tain America) admits its going to be difficult.

Black Knight calls it impossible instead and Doctor Druid suggests a strategic retreat to Earth, where they can be in a better position.

Thor points out that there’s no way for them to get to the dimensional nexus that links Olympus to Earth without being detected. And if they are, Zeus wouldn’t hesitate to send his armies that he definitely has after the Avengers. And with Ares leading the armies, the conflict would definitely spill over to Earth, just because Ares is a dick.

So the Avengers have little chance of convincing Zeus. If they try to go to Earth, they risk a godvasion.

Captain Marvel comes up with an idea though. Zeus won’t listen to them. They’re mortals and he thinks they were abusive to his son. But maybe... he’d listen to other Olympians. Maybe the Avengers could convince some of the other Greek gods to intercede on their behalf! 

Mysterious Guy admits that this plan does have a chance of success... but the Avengers would have to choose which gods to approach very carefully. The Greek gods being the Greek gods and all and Zeus’ children.

Black Knight: What you’re saying is we have to figure out which of Zeus’ relatives are the least likely to fry us on the spot!”

Captain America: “Dane!”

Black Knight: “Well, that’s what it amounts to! Our chances range from slim to none!”

Namor: “Things are not as hopeless as you believe, Knight. I know of one Olympian, at least, who might willingly listen!”

Black Knight is teetering on the edge of a nervous breakdown, I feel.

He’s one bad turn from yelling ‘game over, man! Game over!’

Who is the Olympian that Namor has in mind?

Could it be Neptune who has appeared in this story already and didn’t enjoy having to turn Namor over to Hades?

No, no. Namor has a better ally in mind.

YUP APHRODITE or I guess Venus.

Geez, pick Greek or Roman names, Marvel.

Namor and Captain Marvel bust into the halls of Venus, alarm Cupid, and beat up Venus’ guard.

To her mild amusement.

Venus: “Zeus would not be pleased to find you here!”

Namor: “Your father misjudged us. Will you support his error... or will you hear the plea of an old ally?”

Venus: “I well remember how you helped me stop the spread of Ares’ wars, Namor. Speak... I will listen.”

Apparently, Venus appeared in Namor’s book and they beat up Ares together...

Wait, I made the comment that maybe Marvel Pluto was a dick because Persephone wasn’t around. Is Marvel Ares a jerk because he and Venus aren’t an item?

Huh.

Elsewhere, Athena is hanging out with Hephaestus.

An odd friendship maybe but I could see how they’d have stuff to talk about.

Anyway, Hephaestus has managed to move Mjolnir into his workshop through a complicated arrangement of levers and winches which didn’t trigger the worthiness enchantment, sure.

And now he’s trying to lift the hammer by just willing himself into being worthy.

It doesn’t really work that way but he has a false moment of hope where it seems to be lifting up but its just Thor calling hammer home.

Ain’t it sad, Hephaestus?

It is sad.

Also, the Avengers aren’t supposed to be here, they’re supposed to be in Hades!

So Hephaestus summons his mob of golden women automatons...

Huh.

Y’know. When Asshole Space Creep Hephaestus had a bunch of robot girlfriends, I thought it was something to show what a creep Asshole Space Creep Hephaestus was. I didn’t know. It was just a thing that Hephaestus did too.

Also, yes, these are the golden women from the cover. Although the ones inside the book have faces and cheekbones.

So now the Avengers are fighting an army of interchangeable golden women.

Just another day in the life of Earth’s Mightiest.

For some reason, Black Knight is still just knocking weapons out of hands. Props to him for not treating robot and fantasy robot life as expendable but pretty sure these specific ones aren’t self-aware.

In fact, I’m more than pretty sure because Doctor Druid has trouble with them because they have no minds for him to mess with.

So he levitates a chain to trip some of the golden women into a giant crucible of molten metal.

Apparently he can levitate stuff. I guess he is just like the other Marvel psychics, but less dialed up.

While She-Hulk fights Hephaestus, Captain America can’t help but critique the workmanship of the golden women.

The form is perfect but aside from that, Hephaestus apparently didn’t really get women. His automata move like men despite their form, making their balance all kinds of easy to screw up.

So... the Avengers didn’t come to Hephaestus’ workshop just to retrieve Mjolnir, pick a fight, and critique a man’s fetish art.

They actually decided off-panel that Hepheastus is one of the more reasonable Olympians so he’d be one of the gods they get to plead their case to Zeus.

(I think the problem with this is that Zeus in the mythology kinda hates Hepheastus. You are actively hurting your case.)

Anyway, the automatons that Doctor Druid knocked into the crucible manage to bust open said crucible by flailing while melting and now there’s molten metal flowing through the workshop.

Way to do a bad job, Doctor Druid.

With the floor being lava or close enough, everyone scrambles to get to safer ground.

Captain America swings on a chain and swoops Black Knight to safety. Doctor Druid WHOSE FAULT THIS IS just levitates above the molten metal because he can do that and thermodynamics aren’t real. And She-Hulk and Thor grab their respective Olympian opponents and rush to safety.

Thor then cools the molten metal by spinning Mjolnir like he likes to do.

He tells Athena that they can get back to fighting if they like but being saved by the Avengers has Hephaestus and Athena questioning if maybe the Avengers aren’t the villains they’re alleged to be.

And maybe they didn’t come here to start a fight.

Captain Marvel, Namor, and Venus show up pretty soon and tells the other two Olympians yeah hold on lets not fight the Avengers.

Apparently of Venus’ powers is that no mortal can lie to her. So after the Avengers explain the situation to the three Olympians, she goes ‘yeah, zone of truth pings it true.’

My favorite part is that after hearing the real story, Athena says:

“There is the ring of truth to your tale. Hercules has a long and colorful history of such blunders.”

Which Hephaestus immediately agrees with!

‘Okay yeah it does sound incredibly plausible that Hercules is, in fact, a dipshit.’ says his family.

Hephaestus isn’t too keen on fighting Zeus, even if the Avengers are innocent, but She-Hulk tells him they just want the three gods to help talk sense into him.

And if they can, they want to help Hercules too.

Dipshit he may be, poisoning his father against the Avengers with coma mumbles he may be doing, but he’s an Avenger!

So Hephaestus, who is likely very aware that he’s not dad’s favorite, says that if they want to talk Zeus down, they’ll need Apollo’s support.

Unfortunately, as Hephaestus, Venus, and Athena lead the disguised Avengers toward the hall of Apollo, they’re spotted by Ares. Who immediately goes and snitches.

I hope he gets stitches.

Equally or more unfortunately,

When I joked that Wasp was going to miss out on Zeus’ revenge by being smart enough to go on vacation... eh, I was wrong.

Zeus sent out Artemis to hunt down Wasp.

Zeus: “So, woman... you are one who ordered my son about like a galley slave! You are the one who abandoned him to defeat! Yours must be the most awful punishment!”

Dangit, Zeus! Don’t you hurt a national treasure like Janet van Dyne!

If you turn her into an actual wasp for ironic punishment reasons, I’m going to be steamed!

Over in the hall of Apollo, Apollo receives the Avengers in stride.

Captain Marvel: “You must believe us, Apollo! Zeus has made a terrible mistake!”

Apollo: “A most serious accusation, mortals. In millennia past, such words alone could have cost you your lives!”

Doctor Druid: “But this is not the past, Lord Apollo. And your father is not infallible, is he?”

Apollo: “No, he is not. Nor am I... for endless hours have I labored to heal my brother’s wounds, but I cannot break him from the spell which has claimed his mind. At most, I can ease his delirium with sleep.”

Doctor Druid offers to use his POWERS OF MIND to try to help Hercules.

Doctor Druid: “Hear me, Hercules! I am a friend... I wish to help you! Your other friends... your family... are here with me! Come to us, Hercules... let your mind join with mind... let me show you the way back!”

Then Zeus shows up to spoil the broth.

Ares tells him that the Zeus children that are helping the Avengers are in fact betraying dad to hand his beloved Hercules son over to the mean Avengers who were bullying him!

Captain America protests this description but makes the mistake of telling Zeus he “must listen” and Zeus doesn’t like that.

Zeus: “YOU DARE TO TELL ME WHAT I ‘MUST’ DO, MORTAL? YOU, WHO HAVE DEFIED MY WILL?!?”

And then he blows them all up.

Captain Marvel no sells because she turned into light but everyone else gets blasted around.

Captain America got it the worst.

He managed to block most of the blast with his shield but look how small that thing is compared to his big beefy body. Thor’s doctor eyes see that both of Cap(tain America)’s legs are fractured so badly that he might never walk again.

And Doctor Druid is face down and unconscious but nobody is looking at him and going ‘oh no, his legs!’ so I assume he’s okay.

The funny thing is I’m sure that Zeus blew up Hercules’ bed doing this.

Namor, Thor, and She-Hulk get back to their feet to Zeus’ annoyance.

Zeus: “Some of you yet stand?! Must I wring the life from you one by one?”

Thor: “Zeus, we did not come in search of war, but you have forced our hand! Olympus shall know our wrath! Yea, and you shall learn why we be called Avengers!”

Meanwhile, the mysterious unhooded unshadowy stranger stands on a rocky peak dramatically and frets.

Mysterious guy: “At last it has come... the day I have dreaded for so long. The final battle between gods and man must now begin. And from such a war, there may be no victors!”

At last it has come, the final battle between gods and man and the men have a god working on their side and its not all gods its just the Olympians because I doubt Asgard is going to throw in against Midgard (Earth) in all this.

Stop being so dramatic, guy.

I am so sorry c!pumpkinduo enjoyers but I have to get something off of my chest a lil.

Please I beg of you stop interpreting c!pumpkinduo (in manburg OR in Las Nevadas lore) as a healthy, loving dynamic. It’s like the biggest misinterpretation of a character dynamic I have seen in my whole life which has got to be an achievement. There were obviously silly and funny scenes between them, ones that made their relationship look like a good one and thats exactly the point. Toxic relationships are not a constant and unwavering hurt.

First reason, watch any Quackity manburg vod ever and pay attention to the semi-lore bits it is literally so obvious that for one, Schlatt did not love him back. Two, He did not respect Q, and three, anytime that was brought up it turned into threats. Anyone remember that one time Q stated c!Schlatt did not respect him and he just threatened to lobotomize Q so that he couldn’t think like that for himself? Because I sure do. It directly lead to c!Q canonically having a plan to impeach/execute him.

It was never carried through, honestly, but it’s the thought that counts. Suppose the good moments and bits of attention he got out of basically begging not to be made fun of for like two minutes worked out. Admittedly a lot of the making fun of was just them being silly, Schlatt telling him to go to the gym, calling him flatty patty and Q crying that one time but tears are tears ☠️

You guys forget the way that the two characters ended up. CQ brought up SERIOUSLY that he was tired of being disrespected and cast aside as an equal member of Manburg, and of being constantly mistreated, and Schlatt literally started to fight him. Like. Their marriage ended in a physical battle in which Q pulled out a crossbow to get him away and Schlatt taunted him for being a coward. Their marriage ended in cQuackity shooting him to death, and directly after he went to Pogtopia with hopes of actively working against him.

Though the biggest application to cPumpkinduo being blatantly toxic is the first Las Nevadas lore stream. The entire first section of it actually, which I was rewatching and gathering quotes from.

CQuackity explicitly stated several times that just the thought of being around cSchlatt makes him uncomfortable, and that he gets flashbacks/terrible memories when he’s with him. I genuinely do not know where people got the implications through any of his lore that this was a happy and loving relationship but it sure as hell wasn’t here. Cant be just me who hates ppl trying to take a canon abusive relationship and portray it as loving. Its like taking cdiscduo and being like omg best friends!! (But to what feels like a lesser extent)

Of course it wasn’t abuse to the extent that it was with cdiscduo or very typical violence you see in media, but it was still mentally abusive, and eventually they still got physical. (I could also talk ab how freaky it is for ppl to depict their relationship as s3xua11y abusive but thats for another time. Its annoyingly common.)

Another thing I notice people tend to do is, for some reason, say that c!sweaterduo is a better enemies to lovers dynamic or even ship Revived cSchlatt/Wilbur/Q, which if you think about for more than three fucking seconds youll see how weird that is. CSweaterduo legit just fucking despise each other not in the homoerotic, enemies yo lovers way, they just genuinely want each other to die. I promise making them get together at some point whether it be the elections or after revival is not the move you think it is. CPumpkinduo was a canonically abusive relationship, and adding cWilbur to the mix? Yeah, no. No thanks.

I can see cTntduo, but the complete mischaracterization of cSchlatt as a whole is just… Weird! Sorry, it’s weird. Making an abusive character loving and filled with guilt over his actions when that has never been canonically displayed (quite the opposite in fact) just to ship your favs is strange. Especially on the coumpkinduo end where cQ openly expressed that cSchlatt made him uncomfortable and upset just to think about because of the impression he left.

Super hyped for Chiori release bc I think shes lovely as a character vs. first Lyney shift in awhile and my first mem is that Chiori Was Scary. /silly

I MEAN She was scary in a mildly silly away I guess? I had some genuine ass fears in that tl and Chiori was not one of them. Chiori is scary like an angry mother is scary. In the "oh man moms gonna kill me when she learn this" way. Except its a 50/50 on if you'll actually die. (/j she never hurt me I promise)

Is it funny that I was more scared of her than I was of Father? Father didnt wave scissors far too sharp to be made for fabric in my face, I suppose. But really, who expects a fashion designer to be scarier than a high ranking Harbinger? Nobody thats who.

I'd always dread having to take my costume in to get fixed whenever I damaged it- I'd try to push it onto Lynette because the two got along pretty well. Sometimes I just couldnt do that though -.-" (as in she'd refuse to force me to actually face Chiori myself. "It's not my fault you're always damaging your clothes Lyney." auuuggghhh)

Was very surprised one time when I had come in after being randomly attacked (I typically made sure to not be in my costume for fatui work. This situation was not that, robbers I think), I had begged her to not be mad fully expecting her to blow up at me because the damage was b a d- and she just. Calmly said shes glad I was okay- Made me blue screen for a second I'm not gonna lie. She usually never held back from yelling at us like an angry parent for little damages. I think that made me realize she did actually care about me alongside Lynette, she's just protective over her art. And I suppose it makes more sense to be mad about me being careless during an act than to be mad I got attacked, right?

I miss her to be honest. Sure I thought she was terrifying, but I still think she was fun, she was one of Lynettes few friends too, and one of our sisters in the hearth (whos name i dont remember, shes noncanon anyway) took the occasional lesson from her too. I could just never read her, I never knew what she was thinking. Which was entertaining, but also scary when the only thing you CAN read is she is fully capable of killing without you even noticing the attack. (seriously Chiori you'll never convince me those scissors were genuinely for fabric. I know fabric scissors are sharp but.. C'mon I'm sure those could've gone through bone. /dramatic)

I know I'm talking about how scary she is- And the threats and yelling we'd get from her and all but- I hope nobody takes that to mean Chiori was a bad person. She was lovely, really. A little bit eccentric but all vision wielders are lets be honest. She had her own story that I didn't know. But I think we, just maybe, would have understood eachother more than either of us realized back then.
