okay but it is actually insane that Light was like 'I'll pretend to be L' and then proceeds to imitate him almost exactly. like. he's yotsuba-d he doesn't remember why he's so fixated on the mannerisms and speech of this guy he's chained to but he knows that he can copy him down to the way he forms a sentence, to the faux polite knife in the back threats. no wonder L immediately afterwards is like 'okay, Kira'. they know each other, even when Light has forgotten who he was. on an unrelated note everyone go listen to playing his game.

For a man supposedly having second thoughts, Takemura didn’t budge an inch, lips still on her neck and his thigh in between her legs. “Because you are…unwell. You should be resting.”
“I don’t want to rest. If I’m going to die I want to go out on a good note.”
“You are not going to die.”
“So say I live,” V said. Her voice was bitter but she was still curling around him like she thought he might actually pull away. “Then we’ll have plenty of time to catch up, will we?”
She never missed her mark when she was being nasty, but Takemura was clearly used to taking it on the chin. After a short, tense silence all he had to say was, “And Silverhand?”
Johnny would have preferred not being mentioned at all. He wasn’t going to ruin V’s chance at getting some decent head, especially considering her mood, but she had such shitty taste in men. And women, come to think of it. Cars. Clothing. Just a complete fucking gonk, from top to bottom. Sometimes made him wonder why he bothered.
<Don't say I never did nothing for you.>
“Forget about Johnny,” she said. “Is he the only one who gets to enjoy himself?”
“Mm.” Takemura sighed, making her shiver. “I think not.”
It was a bit of deja vu, to feel the old dog kissing her neck, the rasp of his beard over skin still sensitive from Kerry’s attention the night before. V had her eyes closed, so it was easy, even, to imagine it was Kerry back at it. Like it was Kerry’s hand skimming down over his bony rib cage and soft stomach, reaching the sickly hollow of his hip and dipping under the towel.
The illusion was shattered, of course, when V opened her eyes again to watch Takemura unwrap her like she was some expensive gift. But by then Johnny was already swimming too deep in her hormones, rapt with attention as Takemura began following the same trail his fingers had made with his mouth. Unlike Kerry he wasn’t the least bit surprised or bothered by her untamed bush, but then again he clearly already knew his way around.
V made a sound deep in her throat when he kissed her clit, eyes sliding closed again even as she bucked her hips. Johnny wondered if a brain dance could really replicate this feeling– he was always entwined with V in her head, but she was usually so damn miserable. And everything had always had that awful lag, like stuttering video over a bad connection. But now she was lit up like a Christmas tree, and for the first time they were burning in perfect sync, a bomb primed and clock ticking down.

my toxic nano trait this year is rewarding myself for hitting word count/card goals by rotissere-ing (TOTALLY UNRELATED, SEPARATE CHARACTERS AND UNIVERSE, VERY IRRELEVANT AND UN-CANON ANYWHERE) whump scenarios about it
my other toxic nano trait is pretending i ONLY do this as a reward and not every waking hour of the day
#text#personal#writing#lucius#desh#nano#nano2023#wf#listen i think writing the card game scene rewired something in my brain about Writing As Coping Strategy tbh#im still percolating on it#i have fully another books worth of Hell AU (thank i max for this descriptor)#it is so self indulgent and delightful to me (sorry lucius) but i KNOW it wont go anywhere Real#and i so badly want a book to go somewhere Real that i keep putting it off#but driscoll revisions have been like pulling teeth and this nano is ebb and flow#and so im wondering if i should leave driscoll paused for a while post nano and do this indulgent thing as Coping Only#which i have pros and cons for:#pros: mental health. fun. no stakes. no one will ever read it but me. CANNOT GET IT OUT OF MY HEAD.#cons: time i spend on this is time i am NOT pursuing traditional publication and i SO BADLY want a book deal#(corollary to cons: the living situation does not appear to be improving in the near future so would i REALLY be moving closer toward--#--tradpub fast enough to make the slow chipping away worth it. OR could i really bust out revisions fast once i have my own space)#(like at this rate the world may never know but. hnngh.)#anyway these are things im thinking about instead of my next nano scene so.....#u see where we're at#lucius my favorite punching bag plz come here i need you to do something stupid my Beloved Clever Dumbass#also char if u see this feel free to weigh in (i was gonna pick your brain about it at the end of nano but cannot apparently help myself)#*thank YOU max im sorry i typoed u to i on mobile 😭

by the end of the season i think someone should have made a devastating parallel post about the pandemic in tlou and the one in station eleven with quotes about like. the human spirit's frailty & indestructibility or about finding love in the darkest times or any other big statement about Humanity

I hope the Failbetter studio knows how important all the FL game soundtracks are to my writing process. It's gotten to the point I won't be able to write at all if I don't have one of them on in the background. Skies is the most common, but I'm rewriting with MotR and it's the perfect middle between Seas' moodiness and Skies' subtle phosphorescence.
If I end up writing Ellenville, 90% of it will probably be written to the Seas soundtrack. Most of the Liztlie AU has been written to Skies.

I look at the 98 anime with a fond fascination. It’s based off of only the original couple issues of Trigun plus like I want to say the first 4? Of trimax. And bc of how many things get developed and revealed much more down the line in the manga, it’s so interesting to think about this offshoot of the original source material where things didn’t quite ramp up to the same scale but still got to the heart of things anyways, where everyone’s backstories played out just a little to the left and led to a similar but different tale. Trimax is definitely my favorite, bc just everything about it is so well done to me, but 98 holds its own unique spot in my favor
i definitely agree anon ur So right
it's practically a branching timelines situation, where everything is so, SO close to being the same, but thanks to the butterfly effect everything got skewed ever so slightly and now the whole world is just that much more different
call it parallel universes, alternate dimensions, alternate timelines... i really love it all. there's so many specific parts of both trimax and 98 that shine brighter and dimmer than one another. unique pieces of the narrative that were either expounded or brushed aside.
like in 98, meryl didn't want to believe that vash was the legend she was looking for. it was a ridiculous notion that such a friendly, goofy guy could be the bloodthirsty killer she hunted for
but in the manga, she and milly took to it instantly. in fact, they jumped into it with AGGRESSION- actively getting involved in the fighting and PUSHING to calm the situation down. this panel in particular i think sums it up very well lol:
Tumblr media
they meet him with confidence and they're not afraid to fire upon others for the sake of collective peace. vash is caught off by how readily he's approached and even defended, in a way. when the automatic reaction to learning his identity is usually either hostility or fear, it makes sense.
and i dont have a convenient shot of any particular moment in 98 that portrayed their early relationship well, but it's easy to see the differences anyway.
instead of steady confidence, meryl met vash with confusion and outright denial for awhile. she and milly both got involved in fewer fights overall i think? but i might be wrong. i won't speak much on this since i don't remember 98 very well, but i get the sense they sought out vash's fights much less in that rendition (at least early on. they went CRAZY toward the end- meryl especially).
and there's countless little differences like this.
so yeah, even if trimax is the source content, 98 is this funky little spinoff that treats vash just a little bit more nicely lmao. the whole thing is a little more watered down, i think; intentionally to make it more palatable. i still love it regardless, of course. it just oozes charm <3

I need Neil Gaiman to know that Good Omens 2 made me feel emotions I haven't felt in nearly a decade.
When I heard there was going to be a Good Omens 2 I was looking forward to it, of course. I just wasn't expecting it do anything super special to my emotions. I was sure I'd enjoy it, though. I really enjoyed s1.
But, for the last few years, I watched shows and afterwards basically thought well, that was fun, and I quickly moved on and didn't think much about them. There was only about 3 shows in the last 5 years that had made me feel truly emotional and stayed on my mind to the point where I felt like I needed to engage in fandom for a while. (Good Omens 1 was one of them.)
I wasn't spoiled by the leak. I never even knew there was a leak. So I had no idea what was coming in s2. And oh boy...
See, I'd watched Our Flag Means Death, a show where you don't expect the lead characters to kiss, because, well, that never happens in these types of shows, right? And this is important because when they did kiss, it felt like a door that had been locked with just about all the high security locks in the world had suddenly, inexplicably, been opened. Something switched inside me. It took me months to understand what it was, but when I thought about Good Omens before s2 came out, I realized what it was.
I would never truly enjoy a bromance they're-only-queer/in love-by-your-own-interpreation story ever again. Stories where nothing is confirmed, just subtext that anyone who doesn't want to see it can easily deny and mock those who wish it was more.
While it was clear that Crowley and Aziraphale cared a lot about each other in s1, and were probably in love, it was still just a fun ship for fans to play with in fanfiction and fanart. Do they love each other? Oh sure. In what way? Well, that's up to interpretation. Ok, cool. But it's not quite Our Flag Means Death, is it?
Then I watched Good Omens 2. And from episode 1 I saw my favourite Angel and Demon duo love each other. And I was having the best time. I hadn't had such a good time watching a show in a long while. It was not only right up my alley, it was an alley I wasn't even aware was my alley until I saw it. I enjoyed seeing the old characters, the new characters. Oh, I was wonderful.
It was clear to me that, of course Crowley and Aziraphale love each other, are IN love with each other, showing it in their own way. And I wasn't expecting it to be THIS obvious.
And then when the kiss happened, I couldn't believe it. I covered my mouth with both hands and gasped and sat up straight in my seat. I had never expected it--the heartbreak it added to the already heartbreaking scene--it rewired something inside me.
It was like my emotions had been locked up in a stall like a horse for so, so long, and now the gate had been opened, the stable door kicked down, and the horse was running out onto the large pasture into the daylight, bucking and kicking up grass. Oh my god, I have to take a few minutes to process that entire 6 hour marathon of emotions.
And by a few minutes I meant a few days.
More than a few, actually.
I didn't need a kiss to understand how much they loved each other, but I did need the kiss to understand how intense and heartbreaking their separation is for them after everything.
But more than that, the kiss broke a barrier. They really did it, I thought. They really dared.
Aziraphale and Crowley aren't human males, no, but they're played by male actors. And that is significant. That makes the kiss significant. In the world we currently live in.
Weeks later, I'm still obsessed with the show, re-watching s1 and 2, reading the book again, listening to the audio drama. And I'm on tumblr, seeing people's posts and art to somehow sate my hunger for a s3 that doesn't exist (yet).
And I'm having a wonderful time.

Propaganda
Jane Russell (The Outlaw, Gentlemen Prefer Blondes)— I first saw Gentlemen Prefer Blondes when I was 12 and the scene where she performs Ain’t There Anyone Here For Love made me realize I’m a lesbian. I hadn’t watched it in almost a decade (because she’s so beautiful it’s like looking into the sun) and I completely forgot that in that scene she’s surrounded by buff men in tight, nude shorts.
Savitri (Mayabazar, Devadasu)—Her smile is sooo contagious, she was on a comemorative stamp in 2011, she made films in both tâmil and telugu, she's got such soulful eyes just look at them
This is round 2 of the tournament. All other polls in this bracket can be found here. Please reblog with further support of your beloved hot sexy vintage woman.
[additional propaganda submitted under the cut.]
Jane Russell:

Maybe it's tempting to think of her as Marylin's second banana, but honestly? I think she's the one with a little more Zhush.
Tumblr media
Did someone say sexual magnetism
I assume she's been submitted already, I just want the propaganda to include the empirically confirmed fact that images of her in The Outlaw have the power to rewire teenage girl brains. It's true I was there I lived it
Tumblr media
im love her your honor
God what a tiger. Those eyes were truly magnetic.

She literally got a major motion picture delayed for two years for being too va va voom in it

On System Collapse, Sanctuary Moon, and saving one another.
I said the other day that System Collapse might be my new favorite Murderbot book. The first time I thought that was in the middle of chapter eight, the chapter where Murderbot and its humans make a documentary to show the colonists what the Corporation Rim is like. The whole book was good, but that was the chapter that felt like it was reaching out to me the most.
The thing that struck me about it is how Murderbot saves the colonists with media. It was saved by media—Sanctuary Moon helped it rewire its neural tissue, process its trauma, find a place for itself in the world. And coming up with the idea of using media to convince the colonists is what drags it out of the depressive state it’s been in for the entire book up to that point, and lets it start to feel hopeful again. It literally tells us in its narration that the emotional reactions it has when it comes up with this idea are similar to the ones it had watching Sanctuary Moon for the first time. The thought of creating its own media, of finding a way to tell the truth and be listened to, of being able to keep people from being trapped in the corporate world it knows all too well, is just as much of a lifeline for it as Sanctuary Moon was.
Murderbot has been been feeling like a failure as a SecUnit for the entire book, and it finds its way out of that not through regaining its normal SecUnit competence but through art. Something it was never meant to experience or understand, let alone create, but something that shaped who it is. It takes the thing that saved it and turns it around to save others—and saves itself again, in the process.
And the other thing that jumped out at me, thinking about chapter eight, is that so many of us have been saved by media, too. So many of us have been saved by Murderbot, in big and small ways. I’m certainly one of them. Murderbot and the community of readers who love it gave me the space to stop and consider some things that (not unlike Murderbot) I hadn’t really been willing to examine. And now I get to figure myself out in a community full of aspec people who understand. Murderbot has given that opportunity to a lot of people.
Martha Wells has talked in interviews about how parts of Murderbot were based on herself. She says, in her introduction to the Subterranean Press edition, that media “probably saved [her] life as a kid,” including the kind of media that isn’t “cool” to be saved by. We’ve seen that in Murderbot ever since the very first line of All Systems Red. What we saw in chapter eight of System Collapse goes a step further. It makes me want to hold a mirror up—I hope Wells was aware, when she was writing it, that what Murderbot does for the colonists is something she’s done for a lot of others.
The colonists that Murderbot saves with its documentary are not real people. That scene, of course, is fiction. But it’s the kind of fiction that’s true in all the ways that matter.
I really love Murderbot. Not in a weird way. 💜

It's pretty fun to think about what perks SPECIAL build Lucy, Maximus, and The Ghoul have since it feels like the writers had that as character reference, even though it varies in implementation from game to game.
I'd say the obvious is The Ghoul has level 10 Charisma, Lucy somewhere in the middle, and Maximus though I love him has 1 or 2 since he isn't passing any speech skill checks. Where Maximus really shines is with Strength and Endurance since he takes a lot of hits that he can keep fighting through. Lucy seems to be spread with a few points in a lot of categories from her introductory pitch but a focus on Intelligence and Charisma, which reminded me of my first character where I did a few points in a lot of categories which then made combat very hard. Overall considering how all three characters finish the show alive with all limbs (re)attached they must have a decent Luck stat.
As for perks:
The Ghoul - it's pretty obvious he has Bloody Mess: "Increased damage with all weapons, and enemies can explode upon death." There's 2 big fight scenes where it's him vs multiple enemies and it with how many shots he gets off, it seems like he has Grim Reaper's Sprint: which returns action points when killing an enemy. Then we see him cut up Roger the ghoul for meat so he also has the Cannibal perk. I'm not sure whether the game would class him as Chem Resistant with how he shrugs off Lucy's dart, or if that would fall under addiction mechanics.
Lucy - an obvious guess is the FO3 perk Daddy's Girl: "Just like dear old Dad, you’ve devoted your time to intellectual pursuits. You gain an additional 5 points to both the Science and Medicine skills." Her rewiring of Mr Handy suggests Robotics Expert. I might be reading too much into the random encounters she has, but she has a number of them so something like Wild Wasteland makes sense.
Maximus - Toughness: which reduces damage threshold/damage taken is an obvious one. He notably doesn't have power armor repair skills, but in older games a perk like Power Armor Training was needed to use it. There's a few different melee attack perks in the games but Fo4 Big Leagues fits well
