It’s a wonderful time of the year yet again! Time for another gift exchange! I’m keeping it pretty much the same as last year, since that seemed to go well. Hope to get many participants again!

Please read the rules before signing up.

General rules:

Click here to sign up. You’ll be asked for a prompt for the gift you want to receive. Please notice you will also be required to make a gift for someone else (hence the word exchange). Having a Tumblr account is not mandatory, though it does make things a bit easier.

Once sign-ups close, I’ll be making a list of all the wanted prompts for you to choose what you want. This will be done in a first-come, first-served basis (if by any chance the prompts left are somehow not possible to be completed by the authors/artists left, the people who’ve requested them might be asked to make some changes).

If by any reason you think you won’t be able to finish your gift, let me know as soon as possible so I can find someone else to finish in your place. Please know that in this case it’s possible that the gift being done for you isn’t concluded either.

Hello, everyone! It’s that time of the year again! Are you all ready for Gallavich Week 2022? I’m so excited for this one! We’re doing things a bit differently this year, as you might have noticed. Spring is here! (well, in the Northern Hemisphere it is) The boys are ready for some spring cleaning. Are you?

Welcome to the first ever Gallavich Spring Cleaning!

What is that, you ask? Easy! It’s a multiwork event hosted by @gallavichfanficlibrary and yours truly (with some help of @gallavichprompts, thank you!) . That means any kind of work is accepted: fics, fanart, videos, gifs, you name it! Oh, and did I mention there are no requirements either? Drabbles and one-shots are more than welcome (my burn-out brain actually thanks you).

The only rule for this event is: it’s got to be PG-13 - in other words, clean. (Get it? Cause of spring cleaning? *wink wink* I’m very smart). That means no mature teams, no smut, no M18, no ~lemon~. Of course swearing is allowed (I mean, it’s still Ian and Mickey we are talking about), just keep it sfw. Think of it as a reverse kinktober, if you will.

Prompts are under the Read More. You can use only one, several or all of them. Mix and match, if you want to! Repeat them, even! They’re just your starting points!

This event will run through the whole month of April, so you may post whenever you want. Tag me (@gallavichthings) so I can see and reblog it as soon as possible. Situation prompts:

Spring cleaning.

It's the first sunny day in what feels like forever, after several weeks of bad weather and storms that have kept them spending most of the time in their apartment.

Spring: sniffles, pollen, and tissues.

The Big Easter Egg Hunt.

The only thing Mickey knows about his soulmate is that he’s supposed to meet him in the spring.

Teenagers Ian and Mickey somehow end up spending St.Patrick’s Day together, and it’s not a date but it also kinda sorta feels like it might be?

Spring on the Westside feels different than on the Southside.

Ian and Mickey are slowly turning their apartment into a ‘home’, bringing small touches of themselves into it.

Mickey’s always been a light sleeper who has suffered from nightmares. It’s only when they finally get their apartment sorted that he starts to sleep well and really understand what a good night's sleep can be.

The lease on the apartment is almost up. (Do they stay in the apartment? Move out? Go apartment hunting? Hire a realtor?)

One day Ian comes across an injured cat and nurses it back to health. After a few days he finds a stranger on his couch and the cat is nowhere to see. (Shapeshifting AU)

The last thing Ian expects to see in the mysterious box that Mickey brings to the dugouts is kittens. And he definitely didn’t expect that they would end up caring for them together.

5 times they visited family members + 1 time the family members visited them.

Debbie wants to make a good old Gallaghers’ style BBQ. (Everything goes wrong.)

The king sends his best knight to kill the monster that lives in the forest. Turns out, the monster is pretty charming and doesn’t actually harm anyone.

I made the last post about people who likes 'pervy!141 hcs, kinky cumslut fanfics, and degenerate content' and told them to DNI because I've reached my limit, I told them to stay the fuck away from my blog, because I don't appreciate when people make scenarios about my favorite characters taking it in the ass and mouth at the same time, or associate them dark degenerate type of media, I dont want them near my blog and I certainly don't seek them out. all that happened recently is only because I went out my ways, which I rarely do, to seek some decent ass fanfictions. then, and only then I've encountered this stinky bull fucking shit.

Hi. Saw your latest posts and wanted to share some words of advice. Something you said:

(Of course, that inspires guilt in me because what am I saying? That other people aren't allowed to block me or think I'm a bad person? No, they are within their rights. It just hurts.)

I get blocking if they don't want to interact, that is actually within their rights. But to say they have the right to "think you're a bad person"? Well... only if you think they have the right to be idiots. Please don't give them the power to judge who you are in real life because of a fictional interest, don't let them slap this bad person™ label on you. Do these people really believe that every fan of Game of Thrones, and every person involved in the books and the show, is a bad person™ too? Or are they just using this to bully you? I'm inclined to think it's the latter.

(ie, I'd love to enjoy various beautiful Disney gifsets or enjoy certain blogs I want to follow with cool content but I can't because the moment I follow them, they block me in disgust, etc.)

If you really have blogs with cool content that you want to follow but block you on the spot, maybe keep a "skeleton" second blog only to follow these specific blogs, but don't use the second blog to interact and make friends with the people who would block your main on the spot, because that's setting yourself up for the exhausting task of walking on eggshells the entire time. Use your main to make friends, because then you don't have to "conceal don't feel" all the time.

Just my word of advice as someone who got tired of trying to fitting in and decided to let it go, but you're your own person with your path to follow, so take everything I said as just advice and follow your heart. Sending lots of love and a hug!

With regards to your second point, I'm in a curious position - because usually the second blog I have now works, in the sense that I can reblog gifsets, etc. And I don't exactly try to make friends with the people who would block me on sight. But that doesn't change the fact that I also engage with fandom content for the sense of community, and with ship content particularly for the sense of community. So, if I write a fanfic of a ship like EM or KA or any other on my second blog, then that brings me to the attention of those community members - some of whom may have blocked me on sight, but others of whom don't know me from Eve. And with that attention sometimes comes a friendly rapport - ie, they send me kind messages or asks, share their fics with me, even if I haven't in the first place reached out to them. But even when I haven't, there's still something... communal... about being a creator in a fandom. If you write a fanfic, you want people to see it and respond to it - and people do that with my fics on my other blogs. Or if you're an artist, you don't post a piece of art to the void. You want it to be embraced. And, in fact, once it's out there, a piece of art can't help but be responded to whether you want it to be embraced or not.

But regardless of want or lack of want, the communal aspect of fandom is... kind of inescapable. So that's how I end up in situations where someone really loves my content, and then they start sharing their own content with me or sending me kind asks or messages.

So sometimes I don't have a choice but to interact, treading carefully. I could ignore their messages, or not publicize my work to those that enjoy it and thereby not run the risk of making connections, but we make work in fandom for it to be engaged with, you know?

And, oftentimes, I'm not interacting with the "block on sight" people. I'm not as masochistic as that, at least not these days lol. I'm just interacting with someone who ships EM and enjoys my EM fanfiction, who I don't know would freak out if they knew I had this other ship or not. They're just... regular folks who seem nice.

But sometimes these people DO freak out, even if they gave no indication they were "like that." One time, someone who would send me friendly asks got mad that I reblogged a Rapunzel/Anna post because of the headcanon they were cousins. It was ridiculous, and when they blocked me, I just laughed it off. BUT it did reinforce to me that ANYONE outside of this ship can be "like that," no matter how innocuous.

And that inculcates an "eggshells" mentality - NOT because I want the favor of assholes, but because it sucks to face up to the fact that even the nicest people can turn on you in a snap. It's just... a bummer.

I have one friend on my other blog who ended up connecting with me a lot. We're both trans, we vent about this and that, etc. But one time I followed her on this blog just because I was thinking, I might be able to tell her it's me. We're that close. And she blocked this blog when I followed her. I've still come close to telling her, regardless of that, because I'm 90% sure she'd understand if she knew it was me - even if my ship isn't hers. But that 10% of doubt is... a bummer.

But regardless of all this, thank you. Your first point, I truly should take to heart. thank you.

Profile picture is also from a photography acc in Twitter but I do not claim them as my own as this is merely a fan account in which I remain anonymous in every server except for the ones i share with my closest friends.

Thank you so much for taking your time to answer in such detail! I didn’t realize that there is such a risk involved in doing commissions for existing series.

Now, Tumblr’s new feature just seems like yet another great way of shooting themselves in the foot. They already lost a good amount of traffic due to their NSFW ban back in 2018, and now this? It’s like Tumblr wants to shut down. smh I really wonder how many artists will leave this time because of this bullshit. :/

No problem! I'm a pretty chatty person sometimes so I can really ramble off and on, so glad to hear it helped this time!

But yeah, while the whole post+ thing is optional, and you can make it apply to a post by post basis, i don't think that's going to matter.

Here's the thing: I think even if someone had all of their post+ posts as completely original content, if they have content from other IPs on their blog, and I mean literally just reblogs or gifsets or normal tumblr things, that there's still a potential legal issue there, because post+ is a subscription feature, a subscription for a blog, blogs that can contain other properties on them, and while you may not be charging money for that IP directly on your paid posts, they're all still "connected" by being on your blog, which is making money that does not go back to the original creator

Though honestly let me say Tumblr is going to get into soooooooooo much more trouble than any of us because not only are they implementing this whole system, but they take a cut of your subscription fees, so while all of us might be making small chump change should we actually monetize, Tumblr is going to accumulate wealth from all of those hundreds and hundreds fees into real substantial money. Money that by definition does not belong to them, because all those monetized blogs are filled with Sherlock and Homestuck and Supernatural and Marvel and Disney and-- you get the point

Even I'm skirting the line. I say "oh donate if you like my blog or writing" without asking payment for any specific work in particular or specific, but the overall sum of my blog and my works is fanfiction therefore to even ask for donations in that general sense is still... yeah not technically allowed

So yeah I have no idea what the tumblr team is thinking like, they must not have any legal counsel or any legal advice they sought out before making this announcement. Literally even just the articles published about this massive change to the website is going to draw the attention of all those mega corporations before any of us get noticed, like ringing a massive alarm that says "HEY THIS WEBSITE IS GONNA STEAL YOUR SHIT"

Or... everything could be fine. But I doubt it because the capitalist world is fucking cutthroat and everything is about money, everything. The best outcome to this scenario i can think of is that tumblr is purchased by some massive media company and the site is forced to conform to whatever they want the site to be. Worst case is tumblr fucking vanishes without any warning and all of us lose our drafts and our fans and our only ways of contacting certain people because staff bailed and deleted without giving us any time to prepare. Guess we'll wait and see 💀 yall know where I am on ao3 and if something crazy happens to tumblr i can always put my new account in my bio on there

In regards to that anon, I’ve seen people comparing that scene of JJ in 10x11 to the scene of Emily in 6x14 where she’s talking to Reid when she’s hoping through her apartment and checking to see if anyone was there. I liked to point out that these scenes were vastly different from each other, JJ was going through something and clearly didn’t want to talk about it and so she snapped but didn’t mean it. Where as the scene in 6x14 while Emily was going through a lot, Reid didn’t exactly know what was going on and so kept going on about the film with Emily saying keep being you or something similar and was more calm in that scene compared to JJ who was having a panic attack and breaking down. If anything Reid shouldn’t of asked if she was okay and to talk to him instead helped calm her down from her panic attack. Someone pointed out how Reid doing that so he could get his peace of mind was fucked up, though I do agree and disagree with that. Those scenes in 10x11 and 6x14 were completely different to each other and people need to see that and I wish more people also pointed out how Reid was in the wrong for trying to get JJ to open while she clearly didn’t want to talk about it and was having a panic attack. But knowing this fandom they will always try to compare scenes and show how JJ is a bad friend and Emily is a good friend and use those scenes to hate JJ more. Once again this fandom is hating on JJ again and this time it’s when she was going through a traumatic time

Also there has been a gifset comparison going around of those scenes so avoid that as the comments are really bad. Just thought I warn you as I saw it on my dash and ended up having to block that person who said they were going to become a JJ hater and all the people who reblogged saying how much they hated JJ for that scene

Thank you so much anon! I agree, I didn't see those two scenes as parallels to each other. Just because the lines were similar to each other, doesn't mean they held the same context. (once again, this may be all over the place and long, so please bear with me)

Here's the context of both scenes:

Reid was not hurt when he was rejected by Emily not going to the Russian film with him and he was not upset that JJ had told him to stop bothering her. He was confused in both scenes, that's the only similarity there. Emily couldn't tell him exactly what was happening because it could get her or the team killed, but in case something did happen, she wanted to let Reid know she loves him and the others. JJ didn't want to talk about her trauma and thought it was a bad time for Reid to pry it out of her while they were working and she was already suffering inside.

I just watched the 10x11 scene for context and details to back up my argument. While I think Reid was worried for her, I don't think it was the right time to have him get JJ to confront her trauma in that scene. Reid was ready to talk about the problem, but it was evident that JJ didn't want to deal with it at that moment. He kept profiling her so she opens up about what happened. As they are walking down the hallway, JJ's face is conflicted because of her problem and Reid profiling her. The moment someone walked right in between them, was when JJ pulled him into a room and told him to stop. When JJ said "stop being you", she hated how bad it sounded once she said it because she didn't mean it and didn't know how to phrase it without hurting him. She needed to tell him straight so he would understand why she was upset. The unspoken rule of the BAU is to never profile each other. Not only was JJ upset that someone was profiling her, but it was at an inappropriate time. She would be able to handle telling him something was wrong at a better/later time. JJ allowed for every emotion she had been feeling before that scene to pour out and she felt almost relieved to have told someone about her trauma.

The previous anon said Emily snapped at Garcia in the Doyle arc when she was confronted about her problem, but Emily didn't get hate for that. While Emily didn't say exactly what was happening and was pretty vague, she softened up when she knew Garcia was concerned about her. Same with Reid checking up on JJ. JJ started to open up about her miscarriage and was able to let out how she felt in that moment. She was angry in that episode even before Reid asked her. Reid didn't take it hard and JJ softened up when she realized he was asking how she was coping. Both Emily and JJ were apologetic about their actions because they both remembered/knew there were people who actually cared about them. They both are used to pushing their feelings aside, so they hate confronting their feelings.

I actually was not aware of the gifset thing you and the other anon were talking about, as I have not seen it come across my dash. I checked the jennifer jareau tag and found the one you were talking about, and it does make me angry. She was dealing with a traumatic experience and didn't know how to cope with it in a healthy sense. I have a hard time understanding why people say JJ’s “mean” to him when every other person on the team has treated him in similar ways. Most of the time, they want Reid to be quiet because they are working on a case and it's not the appropriate time to give (possibly) unnecessary details. Hotch even has to tell him to stop talking because they were at work. Aside from JJ, Emily and Derek have made fun of Reid. All teasing aside, they all look after and care for him like family.

Please read.

I’m making this with no anger or frustration left. I am genuinely sad. You could say to the point of hurting. And honestly, the way I’m treated as not just some content creator, but as an actual human being behind a computer screen - I AM hurting.

I was just looking through my notifications as usual and randomly came across a fellow The Lost Boys fan...

Be warned, this is very screenshots heavy.

I noticed they were using one of my gifs from THIS gifset as their header.

I’m making it no secret, that when I randomly come across these things, I always politely DM (or send it via ask) the person and ask them to take it down, since I do not allow my edits to be used in any way (see my bio) apart of the basic appropriate Tumblr functions. I feel like I have to be clear - I am no “huntsman” and so I do not purposely go on and “hunt” people who use my edits without my permission. I only politely, without any aggression intended, message them to let them know about my T.O.U. whenever I randomly come across situations like these. And that’s what I did.

Now, I did not screenshot the very moment I sent this person a DM, but the screenshot above was made partly out of habit to have proof in case they try to “play me” (speaking from experience, sadly) and also partly to have a quicker “note” of the person’s username to message them later, because I didn’t text them immediately. I was busy, so I did a few hours later.

Now here’s the thing.

They did not text me back, which is fine. But a few hours later I did check and see they were online. A few more hours later, they did what I took as an unspoken answer and was genuinely thankful for - they changed their header from my gif to some kind of image (I believe it was a photo of Michael and David). All is fixed and done, no hard feelings (at least from my part). Right..?

Just a side note, but I found it weird at the time, that they also deleted their reblog of my Star gifset (as you can see in the screenshot above). But what followed next makes me now think, in a bitterly humorous way, that they did it to “disassociate themselves from my blog”.

While DMing my own friend through Tumblr app, I decided that I should probably clean out my DMs and in turn delete this “conversation” as well, since all is fixed and there’s no point in keeping it. But then I noticed something.

They turned off their DMs. Okay, that’s maybe a bit weird. But then I went to their profile...

And let me just say, the whiplash I got from all this............ Do I even need to explain what’s wrong here?

Why did they do a 360 degree turn around is beyond my comprehension. When they changed that first Marko gif to a photo, their description was still the old one, their DMs were still on, etc... I am honestly confused.

And since this person turned off their DMs and sending a message via ask from my side is pointless, reaching out to them again via public post by tagging them will surely result in them blocking me. Which I don’t know if I should take as a good or a bad thing, at this point.

Let me end this by saying that, as I am finishing to write this, I feel like I no longer care if this person keeps that butchered Marko gif of mine as their header. What hurts me the most is what they wrote in their description, stating the “truth” and in a way mocking my attempts of politely reaching out to them.

To all original artists, be it writers, gif makers or people who draw: I genuinely wish you all to have the least possible amount of encounters with fellow fandom people, who steal your passionate hard-work and claim as their own. 💔

An Open Fandom Discussion

Hello hello! Goodness, I haven’t made one of these posts in 84 years. Even though I have not been around as long as some others, I consider myself to be quite the Fandom Veteran. I’ve been here since 2013, and with that, I have seen all walks of unrest/drama over the years. Shipping wars, character debates, story policing, you name it. Some have been lighthearted (coughs at aPPLESAUCE 2K14), and others have lead to individuals actually leaving the fandom.

And of course the year of Satan 2020 would have drama starting up ‘round these parts once more. But I’m here to say that it doesn’t have to be that way at all. It SHOULDN’T have to be that way.

I know I speak for nearly everyone when I say we’re simply here to enjoy a franchise we love. We’re here for the friendly discussions, the artwork, the gifsets, the manipulations, the meta, the fandom-wide events, and the fanfiction. We’re here to share joy and merriment and solidarity over something we can all relate to. Many of us come here to escape, to relax and enjoy all the content this fandom has to offer.

That’s not to say there may be some differing opinions. Some people may be more into the debate side, and that’s totally fine! If you’re all for calling out inconsistencies within the series, or pointing out the nuances in a character, then go for it!

But I absolutely draw the line when those opinions start shifting towards singling out others. When people begin to feel alienated, or people begin to feel ashamed for what they enjoy, that’s when it starts to get unacceptable.

Now, don’t get me wrong. People are allowed to enjoy what they enjoy, and dislike what they dislike. They are allowed to post opinions on their own blog if they so please, or rant to others privately if they find certain topics bothersome. But the reason behind my post today, is that a blog has been created that falls within some sort of grey area, and has definitely lead to unrest/hurt feelings/damage over the past few days:

Yup, I will directly call it out. Because in talking about it passive aggressively/indirectly, it furthers the problem this very blog is presenting.

In case you’re unaware, this blog runs entirely on anonymous submissions, with people posting their opinions about a range of topics. That’s all fine and dandy, and I actually followed the blog initially, thinking it was sort of like the tea sessions I have on my own blog. Ie, talking about characters, headcanons, what people like/dislike about aspects of the movie and books, etc! But I was instead stunned to see that it was a platform for people to anonymously point fingers at individuals in this fandom, and utterly crap on certain fanfiction genres/topics.

“But Jodi! You said people are allowed to say whatever they want on their own blog!” I did. But that’s why I believe this blog falls into a dangerous grey area. Yes, people are entitled to rant. Yes, people are allowed to dislike certain subject areas. But to post about them anonymously? To callout individuals directly in their asks? To shame people for liking something they read/write? What’s the point of that? How is giving a platform for anonymous hate okay?

“Jodi, people are allowed to hate things lmao.” True, but then...isn’t it way easier for those people to...avoid what they dislike, then? Or rant about it in their own, private spaces? What good does it do to anonymously rant about it on a blog allowing such? It does nothing but hurt the others who enjoy it. If people were off anon saying those things, it could perhaps allow for discussion/debate. But the anonymous wall detracts from any sort of discussion, and simply makes it a more hateful platform. It also gives people the more cowardly route of avoiding a blog/individual in question, and posting their contempt in an even more passive aggressive way.

It’s done nothing but upset people. It’s hurt people/made them feel ashamed for what they enjoy, and it’s lead to fiery fights between individuals. Many of my friends are hurting because of this, hence me feeling inspired enough to bring forth an ESSAY TM. I cannot stand for it when I see people I care about hurting/uncomfortable.

So then. I propose that, instead of reblogging or replying to the anonymous asks being presented there, we all just carry on with what we enjoy. We all just stick to our more positive things, and continue supporting one each other instead of dragging each other down. I know, it might be slightly hypocritical of me to give this blog attention when I’m calling for inattention, but I felt it was necessary to make people aware.

I’m also not 100% sure of the intent of this blog. I’ve been told some reasons, and if it was indeed created with the intent to stir up drama/harm others, then that really saddens me. If not however, and it was indeed created as nothing more than an “everything platform,” then I believe a bit of “screening” is called for.

To the creators of hungergamestea, I implore you to turn the blog into a place of more friendly discussion. I feel as though individuals should be allowed to discuss things they don’t like, but in a more passive, eloquent manner. And also, NOT anything that harms another. Something like, “I personally feel like Katniss is characterized this way, even though it’s a bit of an unpopular opinion,” as opposed to “LMAO SOME PEOPLE ARE SO EGOTISTICAL” kind of thing. So yes, continue to take anonymous discussions by all means, but please filter out the ones that are intended to be callouts/attacks.

I know it could be viewed as “silencing” opinions/voices. But goodness, whatever happened to the mantra, “If you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say it at all?” What good does empty negativity do?

If individuals are so upset by something, they should take it up with the creator in private, or start a public discussion. Not post anonymous generalizations/assumptions on a blog, which more often than not prove to be FALSE anyway. Again, the anonymous wall proves to be nothing but hateful and damaging.

And, seeing as I titled this as an open discussion, I would like to hear other thoughts! And would also like to extend my support and care to everyone here. I’m not writing this to further any fighting. Rather, the opposite. I hate to see people upset here. I hate to see people fighting with each other. This is supposed to be a happy space, and a space of artful escape. Not a space where we tear each other down.

Personal account: How IDs help us and how our learning process has been

Today in Wolfstar in Color, we close our week that’s been focused on disabilities, ID’s and accessibility (check our Monday fic rec list, our Tuesday post ‘what are ID’s’, our resources Wednesday with links to pages that help in the task, our Thursday post ‘how to do ID’s) with sharing a bit about how it’s been our learning process of making image descriptions. We really hope we find some new blogs, both from artists and fans, including and adding descriptions to their visual content, so our fandom gets flooded with them.

This personal recount is going to be focused in my experience (Moth) since I’m newer at this practice, and so some of you might find it easier to relate with that! I had all the fears, all the questions, and I think I’ve made more than one mistake in my descriptions. If you ever have questions, want to yell into the void, or want to find some motivation to keep doing image descriptions, you can always leave us an ask. Honestly, it would be lovely just to know more people are doing this.

The rest of the post is under a cut, since it’s kinda long - but I also offer some advise at the end based on my own experience, so I really invite y’all to read!

How Image descriptions help me

Doing Images description has helped me realize how much I rely on them when I’m low in spoons, and how helpful they can be to learn about the meaning and intent of an image in the creator’s perspective. Sometimes, when I’m very exhausted, I can’t process some stimuli too well (particularly videos), and video and image descriptions allow me to engage while also not needing to use my whole brain to understand what the artist/creator is trying to convey, nor getting sensory overload with sound in videos in my case. So yeah, please bring more images description into the internet. They really, really help a lot of people to participate in fandom.

What I’ve learnt from doing Image descriptions

Learning how to do Images descriptions has been fun and important for me to also take perspective about how to work for a more accessible internet for everyone. Internet is important for a lot of us, including those who are disabled and immunosuppressed, since engaging with the same intensity as before with the outside world in the middle of a pandemic is not always an option. But honestly, I think the pandemic has shown how relationships and engagement in spaces like fandom might be important to build opinion, practice solidarity, learn about perspective taking, and build resource networks and friendships for everyone.

Writing Images descriptions is a skill, without a doubt. As such, is something you have to grow into. This is still a new skill I’m trying to master. Yes, it takes time to read a bit and get used to how to go about certain characteristics, with what information to start with, how not to ‘tear apart’ the artwork (I particularly struggle with symbols and sometimes, because of the scope of this blog, how to convey ethnicity, especially when a creator doesn’t have an explicit identity/ethnicity/race description in their blog/image). I still tend to start with ‘image of’ or other context descriptors that are not really needed. I still get very unsure about how I’m doing, but at the end of the day, the learning process can only be done by trying. The positive feedback and gentle correction don’t hurt either!

I’ve also discovered in the process that doing image descriptions is incredible entertaining for me - and it’s honestly an activity I enjoy since it allows me to sort of ‘disconnect’ my brain and just submerge myself in the work of artists. I think it has helped me to hone my own writing skills too. It’s not too different to try to bring into life a description of a scene in a fic, only that it’s more of an inter-textual experience, since you are also trying to convey the intentions of the artist, bring their work to life for other people, and that makes me incredibly happy, and makes the activity really rewarding.

Some personal tips when doing IDs

- Don’t do them in mass, if you are low on spoons. The last ones are going to suck. Don’t overdo and burn out, because it’s hard to come back from there. Be honest with yourself if you can’t do more.

- Find a pal that might be able to read your IDs and rant with you when you are struggling (thanks Theo!!). But if you are on your own, that’s fine too!

- Contact the artist, if they are still on tumblr or other social media, if you got any doubt with a part of the image. Do so after you do your research in basic stuff (clothing, for example), but don’t back up from the task just because you are not sure about something in the image! Most artists are going to be thrilled to help you, and it might be a nice way to bring some awareness too of the need of using descriptions in videos, gifs and images.

- Do IDs for images/videos/gifsets you love. I know a lot of the tips we’ve handed are about ‘keeping it short’ but honestly, the goal is to give an experience, so if you are like me and need lots of words, then allow yourself to do that! If you are passionate and give a long, poetic description, worthy of its own fic, it’s likely people will appreciate it (and to be honest, if you get inspired to write something inspired in the image? it’s a win-win situation!)

- Make the ‘ID time’ an special, ‘me’ time - for me, is very close to meditating, to be honest. Put some fun music. Make a playlist that fit the artwork. Let yourself get loose in not having to think about anything but the beautiful artwork you are enjoying for a few good minutes.

- Use resources!! wolfstar-in-color has been posting things that help a lot in the process of writing ID! use the guide to write skin tones from writing in color! use the pose reference from Adorka stock (the poses usually have name in the stock!)! Go dig on @blindbeta‘s posts, use the guides to draw wheelchairs to learn how to describe the different parts. And if stuck, go ask in wonderful blogs the details you need to learn to do an effective and respectful description. There are more resources to come in the blog, but there are amazing blogs for trans and queer issues, ethnic and racial diversity, history, clothing and art, that you can look for yourself too!

- Something I’m trying to do more now: offer the artists you know the IDs you’ve done so they put them with the artwork, instead of adding an image description that likely, will only be reblogged half of the time. Who knows, it might end up with you two striking a collab mode of working!
