Enjoy and dance - Chapter 4 Sway With Me
"Sway me smooth, sway me now"
So "pirating" my way out of @taioraweek's day 6 (prompt = pirates) and instead using this day to post the newest installment of my TaichixSora and KoushiroxHikari multi chapter dance fanfiction Sway With Me! (One day early, but pirating myself out that as well haha)
Here's a little excerpt, the whole thing can be read on both AO3.org and Fanfiction.net. Enjoy the reading and I'd love to hear what you guys think <3
...
Taichi shrugged his shoulders and took one of her hands without waiting for her definite answer, smoothly lifting her out of her seat and onto her feet.
That was it.
Any feeling of doubt and annoyance she had felt only seconds ago were gone with that simple act. Nervousness had stayed, because taking his hand and following his hand meant nothing more than to move between the dancers she had admired in a probably very amateurish way. However, when Taichi radiated this kind of nonchalant confidence, for once more setting aside that pride of his, it didn’t matter.
As if they had done this a thousand times already, his hands found their way to her body, touching and holding her so he could manipulate her body to dance with him. The heat that had arrived on her cheeks earlier intensified, her face feeling like a burning fire. And before Sora knew it, her hands were already placed on him and feet were doing all the steps they had learnt that last class and more.
Taichi had his ways with her, her mind knew. Her body hyper aware. Every step on the floor was one closer to the other. Every beat creating less and less space between their chests, hands in hands, on shoulders and hips relaxing yet feeling tensed and sweaty. It was all leading up to them swaying together, exactly knowing what to do while being as inexperienced as they were.
It was how Sora had felt those few times. It was exactly how Sora had wanted to feel again. And now she had it, dancing her feet sore and throat dry, being all close to him and that damn face of his.
Without any effort, Taichi let her spin, catching Sora in his tight grip yet with just enough looseness to end the music and dance with Sora in a deep dip, his own body lightly bending over hers and their eyes locked.
“Don’t you think this is so much easier if we both stop thinking and just follow whatever we feel without someone telling us what to do?” Taichi said. His voice sounded sultry, his eyes holding her in an even tighter grip as he brought her body back up straight. Even though she was standing up straight, feet on the ground, she felt like flying, her heart racing.
Sora swallowed, nodding to his little reflection and conclusion.
“I think he’s right.”
Both Sora and Taichi looked to their side to find the dance teacher.
“This is how you make tension work, you two have a very interesting chemistry.”

~*~*~*~*~*~
The year was 2010. Many of the Chosen Children were working their way towards their career paths, while the others were still honing their craft, or studying their way through university, hoping the answer to life would appear somehow.
Koushiro was lucky to find as many answers as he had at his age. He had already graduated from university by the end of Taichi’s second year, and at 21 years old, he was the CEO of his own technology company.
Taichi had been Koushiro's roommate in their two-bedroom, two-bathroom apartment for three years now, since the time he had left his parent’s home and moved out after high school. Koushiro’s startup was a success and he had earned enough to buy his own place by that point. But he was used to having Taichi as a roommate; they were best friends, so Koushiro liked living with him.
Just as much as he liked living across the hallway from Daisuke, Takeru, and Ken in the same apartment building. There was a lot of hustle and bustle between their apartments combined as they had frequent visitors among all of the Chosen, and the three younger boys visiting Taichi and Koushiro’s apartment nearly every other day. Koushiro had learned to block out the noise, especially when he needed to focus, but it was a wonder that the rest of the building hadn’t reported any noise complaints against the two apartments. Taichi himself might as well have been a noise complaint on his own - he was usually the most jovial amongst their friends; and, not to mention those evenings when Sora stayed the night.
Koushiro had less to complain about lately, including one Friday evening when he happened to have the apartment to himself. Taichi had gone over to Sora’s place; and since Taichi’s schedule was free from classes the next day, he was not going to return to the apartment that night.
So, Koushiro relaxed in his moment of freedom, wearing a casual shirt and jeans, but adding a touch of gel to his hair from what he had already worn earlier that day at his office. He spritzed on some cologne because he wanted this night to be special.
A knock came at the door, and he couldn’t help but smile when he opened it. Hikari was standing there, and she looked as beautiful to him as ever.
“Hey,” he whispered.
Hikari smiled. “Hello,” she whispered back.
Out of habit, Koushiro peered over Hikari’s shoulder and around the empty hallway, eyeing the closed door across the hall. Hikari had looked around as well, but soon after, Koushiro took her by the hand to pull her inside, allowing her to close the door behind her.
Then, she leaned forward to greet him with a kiss - a kiss that nearly took his breath away.
“Hello, handsome,” she said, this time her voice raised to normal, her tone bubbly.
“Hey, Hikari,” Koushiro replied in his attempt not to sound breathless. He found it hard to use pet names, even though he wanted to call her ‘beautiful’.
Hikari giggled, then pulled him close for an embrace. He felt her breathe in. “Mmm, you smell nice.”
He took note of the sweet, floral scent on her, but his cheeks burned as he knew that he was too meek to say the same. Instead, he settled for holding their embrace for a few more seconds, with the knowledge that the moments he had with her that night was worth savoring.
Especially since no one had known that he and Hikari had been dating for a month.
They had prided themselves for keeping this secret from their circle of friends for so long. Luckily for them, the two of them were the least suspicious of anything out of everyone; therefore, the best two at keeping secrets and coordinating with each other whenever they interacted with the members of their group. Mimi and Miyako were intuitive enough to sense that Hikari and Koushiro had new ‘special someones’ in their lives, but they were so far out of their minds to even connect the dots.
Hiding this fact from Taichi had been their greatest achievement, but with Koushiro as his roommate and best friend, and Hikari as his younger sister, Taichi’s discovery was actually their greatest fear.
Another peck from Hikari had wiped the mixture of thoughts from Koushiro’s mind.
“So,” Hikari said, moving her hands from around his back to his arms. “I stopped by the market on the way here for ingredients to make us some dinner.”
“Are you sure?” he asked her. “You must be tired from being at uni all day. Why don’t we heat up some instant yakisoba?”
Hikari scrunched her eyebrows. “Nonsense! I will make you some from scratch. It’ll taste much better, I promise.”
“I’m sure it will.”
“And after that,” Hikari drew closer again. “We can watch something together, like a movie, and after that, maybe…"
Koushiro’s felt his heart beating more quickly for some reason. "Maybe… what?"
"You know… since it'll be just the two of us here by ourselves, we could…"
"...Enjoy the movie in each other's comfort?" Koushiro guessed.
Hikari paused, then she laughed, her cheeks turning pink.
"You can be so clueless about this. It's charming."
"Charming? I guess I wouldn't think of myself that way."
"Of course you wouldn't. That's part of your charm." Hikari giggled again at Koushiro's curious stare. "I wouldn’t be here to spend time with you and make you dinner otherwise."
She let go of his arms and turned to face the kitchen. As she took a step towards it, Koushiro took her wrist, stopping her. What she had been trying to say suddenly clicked in his head.
"What if I suggested for these events to be out of order?" Koushiro asked.
"What did you want to do first?" she asked.
"Well… the part that was meant for after the movie…"
His face was heating up again, but this time, his eyes were fixated on Hikari, who gave him a look of surprise.
“Really? You want to…?”
Koushiro nodded.
Hikari’s lips curled into a smile, the kind that he recognized when she was being playful. The kind that urged him to kiss those lips again. So when he drew her in like a magnet, her lips met his once more, and he gladly accepted. He kissed her back, his heart drumming in his chest as his hands wrapped around her waist, and her body closing in until her chest pushed up against his.
That “part” he was talking about was unexplored territory for him and Hikari. They had been taking their intimacy at a slow pace, and they had found pockets of time to sneak away with each other, stealing kisses here and there, even making out in each others’ rooms before their respective roommates showed up. But this time, Koushiro predicted that they would have no interruptions, and if they both wanted to end up in his bed that night, there would be no stopping them.
Not even a step was taken toward Koushiro’s bedroom when the front door opened.
“Kouuushiroooo!” came Daisuke’s voice. “I’m bored, let’s game…”
Both Hikari and Koushiro ripped apart from each other, but they were a second too late. They both faced Daisuke’s widened eyes and jaw which dropped so far it might as well have hit the ground.
“Daisuke!” cried Hikari, mortified. “Don’t you ever knock?!”
Gah! Koushiro thought in his head, but he might have said it aloud. He had been too enamored with Hikari to have forgotten to lock the door when she arrived. He gathered that her immediate reaction toward Daisuke was out of her guilt for the same reason.
“No, no way!” Daisuke said with surprised laughter in his voice. “Kou is your mystery boyfriend?! And Hikari’s your secret lover?”
“Daisuke!” Hikari repeated, her face turning as red as Koushiro knew his face appeared.
“Oh, man! I can only imagine what would happen if Taichi found out-”
Hikari started toward Daisuke, but Koushiro was faster, with his fear, panic, and anger surging all at once. He held Daisuke by the shirt collar and mere inches away from his face.
“You cannot tell Taichi,” Koushiro spat, and he realized that the tone of panic must have prevailed based on how his voice sounded. Still, his forcefulness seemed to have caught Daisuke frightened.
“Whoa, I didn’t think this would be so serious-” Daisuke sputtered.
“Please, Daisuke, promise you won’t tell him, or anyone else!” begged Hikari at Koushiro’s side.
“Alright! Alright…” After a few moment’s pause, Daisuke’s stare relaxed, but his next question threw the other two for a loop. “What’s in it for me?”
“Why would we owe you anything?!” Koushiro asked incredulously.
“This is a pretty big secret, and you know how terrible I am at keeping them. And when it comes to Taichi, there’s no way I could keep this from him.  I’d like some compensation.”
For a head like his that was always full of ideas, Koushiro was running short of them at that moment. He let go of Daisuke’s collar, having no idea what would appease Daisuke for something like this.
“Ramen,” Hikari replied suddenly. “You can cook for us,” she continued. “We’ll critique it for you.”
Daisuke’s eyes softened. This was something that Koushiro knew meant a great deal to Daisuke, as he was studying and aspiring to be in the culinary field. Not a day had gone by that he boasted about his skills and he had begged everyone in his friends group to at least taste his food to help learn what worked and what needed improvement.
Koushiro was in awe of Hikari hitting the nail on the head with this idea, and it made him adore her more than ever.
“Do you guys really mean that?” Daisuke asked, and Koushiro swore that Daisuke’s eyes were getting glassy.
“Yes! We do!” Hikari replied, and Koushiro nodded enthusiastically. “Hikari and I will enjoy your ramen together!”
“You guys… are the best!!” Daisuke stood up, then hugged Koushiro and then Hikari tightly. Koushiro smiled widely along with Hikari, knowing that they both were laughing in relief.
Then, Daisuke laughed aloud in his glee, and he balled his hands into fists and held them at his sides. “Ah, well! Nothing like a couple devouring my best noods ! Wait, that didn’t come out right…”
Koushiro blinked in confusion, then turned to Hikari once more, and she shrugged as she smiled with embarrassment in reply.
~*~*~*~
After a few hours of practicing ikebana, Sora needed some fresh air. The first idea that appeared in her mind was to check on her friends. It was easy for her - she could pay a visit to one place and she could check mark five of her male friends’ names from the list, one of those males being her boyfriend, Taichi.
That day, she had been hoping to run into Koushiro, whom she hadn’t seen in a while. Her frequent visits had come to a halt lately, but at least Taichi stopped by her place to see her whenever he had the chance.
When she stepped off of the train, she wondered who she would see this time. Taichi had yet to respond to her text message, but even if he nor Koushiro were away, Someone was always at the other apartment for her to chat with. That was always something she expected.
What she did not expect as she stepped along the platform was to catch Koushiro's spiky red hair from the corner of her eye. She watched him quickly move through the platform with someone and turn a corner. Going on her instinct, she followed them, and she kept herself at a distance to remain unnoticed, but she was able to recognize that “someone” who sat on a bench so close to Koushiro. That petite someone who had a short bob haircut and who was slightly shorter than he was, but their head tilted upward for her lips to lock with his.
That someone who was Hikari.
Sora nearly dropped her shoulder bag, just as she heard her phone ring from inside. When she saw who was calling, her eyes widened, and she quickly took a deep breath, hoping to exhale her shock and fright before answering his call.
“Hey, Taichi,” she said. “You home?”
“I’m just leaving from work. You?”
“Oh, well I was just heading to see- uh- Koushiro-!”
Her mouth hung open as she watched the two, shamelessly kissing each other like that. Sure, they were behind a wall that was normally easily missed by any passersby, but to be out in public-!
“Huh? Koushiro?” Taichi asked.
Sora swallowed her shock and gathered herself to give Taichi a reply. “I was going to stop by the apartment to say hello.”
“Really? Want me to meet you there?”
“No-”
She realized that her answer might have been too quick. She turned around and began to head in the direction away from Koushiro and Hikari, as though every frantic step further would make Taichi less suspicious. “No. I’ll be there a short while before heading back to my place. It might take too long for you to get here. Why don’t you meet me at mine? Then we can figure out what to do then?”
Sora expected Taichi's silence for him to figure out that her suggested route made sense. She also welcomed his silence for her to process what she had just seen. Koushiro? Hikari? Together? How long had they been seeing each other? How serious was it? Did any of their friends know? Did Taichi know?
There was no way that Taichi could have known. He teased Koushiro for being a top secret "playboy", and he bickered with Hikari about any of her love interests, even if she refused to tell him any names.
"I guess I’ll take the train straight to your place then," Taichi said, then, he added with a tease, "Don’t stay too long with Koushiro. You know I’m the sensitive, protective type. I might start thinking that you’re his secret girlfriend, or something.”
Sora laughed, but not out of amusement.

Rain on windows
Day 13-16: rain/shine
summary: while waiting for the rest of their friends to arrive, Koushiro and Hikari have time to talk about the rain… @koushirohikari
“Looks like we are the first ones here,” Hikari let out a breath, gazing out the damp window at the glowing neon lights from afar. The soft glow of pink and red from the bright sign that screamed Bowling for Ice Cream fell delicately on her pale skin.
“Looks like it.” The response came from the boy in the driver seat as he clicked the car into park. Koushiro’s eyes avoided the warm, naturally radiant figure in the passenger seat and looked out at the cool raindrops slowly drifting down the side of his window. He sighed, thinking about the numerous miscalculations his friends made prior to this moment.
One minute he was over at the Yagami residence discussing different cheat codes in a new game that he was playing with Taichi, and then the next Taichi received a phone call from Mimi. She was in town from America and wanted to see if the group could meet up for a couple rounds of bowling and some ice cream. So the two masterminds on the phones exchanged plans, rather poorly, how the group would meet. Taichi insisted on picking up everyone in his new SUV, but once he realized that his car can only sit six people, it was too late. It was then that Taichi asked Koushiro to drive Hikari to the place while he kept his promise and drove the rest of the group. It took some convincing, but Koushiro complied to the request. He didn’t realize until now how much extra time he was going to have now…
Now he sat there, staring at the falling raindrops sliding down the window, patiently waiting for the rest of the group to arrive. He wondered how the rain could create such an infinite amount of little droplets each reflecting the fluorescent lights to put on a silent show. He pondered on what emotion flooded into his mind when observing such a display. Sadness? Confusion? Longing? He couldn’t pinpoint it.
He looked over at the girl sitting next to him for an answer. She mirrored his actions, except she was tracing the drops with her tiny finger as they fell from view of the window. His eyes narrowed a bit, analyzing her actions to see if he could pick up her thoughts. Was she conducting a race with the water droplets? Or was she thinking the same questions he was? Koushiro caught a glimpse of light in her eyes when she placed her hand down on her lap and kept her gaze to the rain. Was it longing, too? Or was it filled with hope? She didn’t seem to look at the rain sadly, but rather looking for her love in the rain.
“Why do people associate rain with sadness?” She said, quiet enough for him to hear.
Her voice caught him off guard, causing him to look out the windshield. He let out an unknowingly held breath. “What makes you say that, Hikari?”
“Well,” she began, a bit hesitant in her next words. “For most, rain makes people sad. They had a negative connotations it. Connecting bad feelings to something that is not necessarily bad.”
Koushiro slowly nodded his head. “Yeah, make sense. So what are you trying to get at?”
She took a breath and looked at the boy next to her. “It is important to know that the rain can make some people sad, but only until we see closely the beauty of a single raindrop is when we start to appreciate the little things in life.” She brought her gaze up to meet the boy’s dark eyes. A nervous laugh escaped her lips as she shook her head and looked at her hands on her lap. “I mean, I guess I never had any negative feelings toward the rain.”
“So you have positive ones?”
She smiled softly, light from the environment reflecting off it. “With Taichi. We used to wish for rain so badly so we could jump and play in the puddles.” Then she started to giggle. “Or with Sora and Mimi. We went window shopping when it started to downpour. All we could do was laugh like crazy because there was nothing we could do.” She then paused for a moment. “I think those are some of my favorite memories with them.”
Koushiro chuckled at her stories. “I see.”
A hum came from the passenger seat. “Do you have any favorite memories with any of our friends?”
Koushiro turned his head to face her. Their eyes met, making Hikari let out another nervous laugh.
“I mean, it doesn’t necessarily have to do with rain, so anything could do.” The words rushed out of her mouth to fill the vacant air between them.
Koushiro brought a pondering hand up to his chin in thought. “Who were you thinking?”
“Taichi.” His name was the first one to pop in her head.
He stopped and thought for a couple minutes, thoroughly running through all the records and files in his brain to think of a find memory he has associated with that name. “I think when Taichi and I stopped for some snacks on the way to movie theater. He tried to shove as many treats and snacks into his shirt as he can without being suspicious.” He looked over at Hikari’s raised eyebrow. “Taichi paid for them, of course. He just looked so ridiculous!”
Hikari could help but smile and moved her gaze back to him. “How about Sora?”
He again stopped and thought for a couple minutes before speaking. “When she brought me some yellow flowers for my promotion I received at my job.
“Yamato?”
A couple beats passed by before Koushiro could answer. “Probably when he came over to help me study. He started playing his harmonica, and I swear it is the only thing that helped me pass that exam.”
She laughed at that that story. “Excuse me, what? Yamato helped you?”
He chuckled and looked at her. “Yes, I hate to admit it sometimes, but I don’t know everything.”
She laughs hung in the air for a bit before the drops of rain overwhelmed it. A pause intruded before she broke in. “What about me?”
In an instant, Koushiro looked down at her hands and smile softly Hikari could see the memory flowing easily through the boy’s mind as he spoke. “It was at your house. Taichi invited me over, but for some reason, he wasn’t home yet. Just you. You suggested that we play Nintendo in Taichi’s room. After some negotiations, we agreed on Mario Kart. You said you were not good at that game, but you managed to win every round. And every round, you were so happy to take the lead and win. You would laugh, cheer, and pretend to be a sore winner by rubbing it in my face. But I know we were just playing around and buying time before your brother came home. Seeing you smile was better than winning I suppose.”
When eyes reached her, the realization of what he just said hit him the a turtle shell in Mario Kart. His cheeks felt hot and he started to stutter. “I mean, there are so many memories with you, it’s so hard to pick one…”
She leaned toward him to catch his dark eyes in hers again. “I guess we will have to make more then.”
The tiny taps of the raindrops on the roof of the car played with the pitter-patter of his heartbeat. Before he could respond, solid knocks bombarded the pair. Koushiro turned his head to see a taller boy.
“Hey, guys; we’re all here! Sorry it took so long! Let’s get going; I’m hungry!” Taichi screamed through the still-closed window and started to walk toward the entrance of the bowling alley. The group of the remaining Digidestined were right behind the leader. Taichi started splashing in the puddles, gaining some scowls from Yamato and Sora and some light laughter for Takeru.
Koushiro slowly turned to look back at Hikari. She only shrugged her shoulders.
“Ready to go?” She asked.
“I guess so,” he responded.
As they both exited, the rain continued to pour heavily; however, it did not give Koushiro a negative feeling like prior. The rain falling down on him reminded him of Hikari. It was falling rather hard, and now, he was too.

thinking of you
enlightenmonth 2022 ( @koushirohikari ) // Day 5-8: Work/Holiday
[Next bit, here we go! I meant to write this on the fifth, but then I ended up being busy, so I’m writing it now instead. Ended up being more wholesome than I expected it to be.]
From within her living room, Hikari could hear the sound of typing. It wasn’t particularly loud -- she could ignore it if she decided to focus on the sound of birdsong creeping in through her window -- but it was unmistakably the sound of typing.
Curious, and with nothing better to do than grading homework papers for her students, Hikari stood, and went to investigate.
The typing didn’t come from anywhere else in the living room, nor the kitchen or the office that Hikari and Koushiro would sometimes use, so there was only one place left to check. Hikari walked to Koushiro’s doorway, and knocked, twice, before opening the door slightly.
The typing had stopped. Sitting on the edge of his bed, laptop computer on his lap and Tentomon dozing beside him, was Koushiro.
“What are you working on?” Hikari asked, opening the door further.
“I’m planning out new shifts for the company’s employees.” Koushiro explained. “We recently installed a new system, so we’re having to redo all of the shifts and managements of systems because of that.”
Hikari made a noise of understanding. Koushiro had talked about that a few weeks back -- she didn’t understand all of it, something to do with the newer and better system not being backwards-compatible with the older system they’d been using. Still, it was nice to know that Koushiro felt he could talk to her about those things, and that she’d listen even if she didn’t understand. He trusted her enough to talk to her freely about those sorts of things. it was a nice feeling.
“I’m grading papers in the living room.” Hikari said. “Would you like to join me there, Koushiro? The light could do you well.” It certainly would be lighter than Koushiro’s room, at least -- the blinds were all drawn, so much of the light within the room was what came from Koushiro’s laptop screen.
“Ah -- that’s a good idea. Thank you, Hikari-san.” Koushiro stood, picking up his laptop and tucking it under one arm while he held a dozing Tentomon in the other.
“I told you that you can just call me ‘Hikari’.” She reminded him, though she knew he probably would say that he would call her that, and then just continue calling her “Hikari-san”. He’d been doing it since they were children, after all, even after Taichi and Hikari and Koushiro had all been siblings in everything but blood, and even after they’d all saved up and purchased an apartment to share together. Koushiro, her ridiculous brother, had never quite shaken the habit. But that was okay.
“I will.” Koushiro promised, though he had a small smile on his face that suggested he knew what Hikari was thinking.
They both sat in the living room, sitting beside each other on the couch. Hikari picked back up the papers she had been grading that’d been left on the coffee table. Koushiro went back to working on his laptop. Tentomon dozed next to Koushiro, and after some time Tailmon wandered back in from outside and curled up on the arm of the couch, dozing as well.
It was still light out -- early evening at best -- so Taichi wouldn’t be home for a while. But that was alright. When he did get home, Agumon walking beside him, he’d throw himself into the unoccupied space on the couch, and ask Hikari and Koushiro about their days, and they’d do the same for him, like they all did every evening. It was a routine they all had, and a good one. One that made Hikari warm inside, knowing that she had these people to love.
