DMC Questions Anon here!
Halloween is upon us. How do you think the characters would celebrate? Who enjoys Halloween the most? What would they dress up as?
HALLOWEEN TIME BOIS 🎃
okey so, the squad would probably have just a small get together where they splurge on candy and having a drawing for what Halloween movies they are going to watch.
Patty is easily the most excited about this, and always goes full force as soon as September ends. She's the one who does the most decorating, although she does drag Dante into decorating the office with her as well.
Costumes are usually not needed, but since this is Vergil's first Halloween with them Patty insists they all wear costumes. Morrison (who never wears a costume, he's too old for this shit) was elected as the judge.
Dante thought it would be funny to pair up with Vergil; he insisted they go as Jason and Freddy Kruger respectively, even though Vergil has not seen any of the movies. The costumes are handmade and kinda shitty, but the highlight was Dante tapping kitchen knives to Vergil's fingers.
Patty wanted to match their theme so she went as Ghostface. Over the course of the party every single person in the office was called by her at least once.
Nero heard about the 'scary' theme through osmosis and it went completely over his head. He was dressed as Scooby-Doo. Kyrie took pity on him and showed up dressed as Daphne an hour after the party started. The kids though he looked great tho.
Nico is the reason Nero got the theme wrong. She dressed as Velma but thought it would be funny if it was specifically a slutty Velma. Dante thought that the entire situation was fuckign hilarious.
Trish and Lady actually coordinated (they always do) and went as Holmes and Watson. The difference being that Watson had a lot more guns than usual.
Lady and Trish tied with Patty for winning the coveted plastic trophy Kyrie had picked up on the way over. Vergil sliced it straight down the middle before their argument devolved into a fistfight.

What do you think are the biggest fears of each of the DMC cast (that you want to talk about)?
Hi Ember, thank you for the ask! First one in 2024 in fact) Happy New Year!
I think it's quite obvious this fandom is the Abandonment Issue Land. Literally everyone has them. Even the most faraway background character has them. As for other things...
I headcanon Dante to have claustrophobia and fear of fire. Normally, they don't affect him too much, but if something comes up on a very bad day it may startle him, or cause a brief flashback of some sort.
Vergil has paranoia. An actual need to be aware of his surroundings. I also think he is actually still afraid of demons, childhood trauma be a bastard like that. To get him to calm down enough for proper rest is a true Herculean feat.
After the Savior incident, I think Nero will be afraid of the magical side of the DMC world, and all rituals concerning demons.
Trish is afraid of Mundus. She is his creation, there is no sure way to know she escaped his influence.
Nick is afraid demons too, it's the reason she is trying to hard to do research into them. Rationalise her fear.
Patty is afraid of forever needing to hide/remaining helpless. She is targeted, like the twins, for her ancestor's legacy, but very much unlike the twins, she doesn't have the inherited power to defend herself. She needed Dante, or an amulet to protect herself. (obviously all the sparda loser bois are also afraid of not being enough to protect their loved ones, however, again, they actually have the means to do that, that fear is halfway irrational, while patty is actively helpless against her pursuers, though it might depend of the interest in her legacy/amulet, which is probably much more situational than the very powerful sparda blood allure, so the risk of her being hunted is also less than the one of the sparda idiots)
I'm gonna do a crack one and say Lucia is afraid of deep water. Because she lives on an island, and this only furthers her isolation.

This is actually a really good idea, thank you anon. I may actually write a follow-up to this, no promises though.
Lady flopped onto her couch, clutching Kalina Ann in her arms. She hadn't even bothered to change out of her riding suit, but all discomfort and soreness was outweighed by sheer exhaustion.
Her respite was cut short by a loud crash from the far wall. At once, Lady jumped behind the couch and took cover, peeking over to see her own motorcycle lying in the middle of her apartment, leaving a trail of glass and other rubble in its wake.
"What the hell?!" Lady roared.
As if to answer her question, the culprit made herself known. Landing behind the motorcycle was a tall, blonde woman, dressed in black leather boots, with skin-tight pants and a corset to match. Her hair was done up in a pony tail, and her eyes were hidden by a pair of sunglasses.
The woman looked fit, but there was no human explanation for throwing a motor vehicle into a second story window, then leaping in after it. Lady slung Kalina Ann onto her back, and placed a hand on her pistol - the human-sized demons tended to be too fast for Kalina Ann.
The mysterious woman turned, and met Lady's eyes. "Hm... One red eye, one green... Scar across the bridge of her nose... You're the one, alright."
"Tell me why you're here. Now." Lady drew her pistol. "Or else."
The intruder smiled. "Well well... You are a ferocious one, aren't y-"
Lady fired her pistol, hitting her right between the eyes. Even as the bullet crumpled and bounced off, leaving only a bruise, Lady's target grunted. "...That was rude." She hissed through gritted teeth.
Lady scoffed. "I don't know what's considered polite in the Underworld, but up here? Throwing motorcycles into people's windows doesn't exactly say 'I come in peace'."
The stranger chuckled. "I'll remember that next time."
"I won't ask you again." Lady cocked her pistol.
The woman smiled "I just need to know where I can find your friend, Dante."
Dante? Lady thought to herself. This woman knows him... Could she be another family member? Her hair isn't white, but she has his tan, and maybe his nose too...
"Who's asking?" Lady barked.
The demon glared. "No one's 'asking'. You're going to tell me. What's up to you is how much I'm going to hurt you first."
"Wrong answer." Lady fired her pistol again.
This time, the stranger dodged, and in an instant, she tossed the couch aside. "Right back at you." She then seized Lady by the throat, and lifted her off of her feet. "Surely you know by now that your only choice is to cooperate?"
"Think again." Lady retorted. "Look down."
The demon looked down to find that her right foot was planted on top of some sort of metal disk. "What's this?" She inquired.
"That's a landmine. Calibrated to fuck up demons like you." Lady answered.
The demon grinned smugly. "You've never faced a demon like me. I like my chances."
"But do you like mine? If you step off now, we'll both be caught in the blast. And I can't tell you anything if I'm dead." It was Lady's turn to look smug.
The woman's eyebrows raised, and her head cocked to the side. "Well played." At once, she tossed Lady over her shoulder.
She landed right beside her motorcycle, her leathers thankfully shielding her from the broken glass. Lady quickly got to her feet, and pushed the motorcycle upright.
"Oh, no you d-" The demon was cut off by a loud gang, and covered by a puff of smoke.
If this were a regular job, Lady would have stopped to make sure the demon was finished. Instead she climbed onto her motorcycle, and rode out of what used to be her window, landing in the street below and tearing away.
Who the hell was that?! Lady thought to herself. I better get myself to Dante's office. To warn him, and to get some answers.
* * *
"Agh, fuck me..." Trish came to, and looked down at herself to assess the damage. Her right leg was reduced to crystalized ichor. Nothing that wouldn't regenerate, and not nearly as painful as anything Mundus would bestow if he had witnessed this failure, but it was still a surprise.
As the stump began to extend into a complete leg again, she laid back down, and laughed to herself. Looks like I underestimated you, hunter. I hope this isn't the last we see of each other.

DMC Questions Anon here!
There are many who if you ask them will say they aren't quite convinced that Sparda's dead. What is your opinion on the matter? If you believe he's alive, what do you think has been going on with him all of these years?
Even you you believe he's dead, let's just hypothetically say he's making his return after DMC 5. How do you think this will go? What do you think he's been doing? How will he react to this new world and all that's happened? Most importantly, how will other characters react to his return?
Hi DMC Questions anon!!
Ooooooh I couldn't let this question pass because I actually have semi-formed thoughts on the matter that I can put into some kind of words!
Perhaps it's wishful thinking, but no, I dont think Sparda is dead (...yet). The prologue in DMC1 says he continued to preserve harmony until his death, right? Since DMC is kind of notorious for not giving exact dates for events (unless your brain is especially wrinkly and you manage to get some semblance of a timeline from all of the mainline and ancillary media) I like to headcanon that this epic speech introducing us to Sparda is the story of Sparda as told within the DMC universe. Imagine it as a bedtime story told to children, or the front page of a "Welcome to The Order" pamphlet, if you please. So maaaaybe we could postulate that if the prologue was written/spoken at a different time to DMC1 inside the DMC universe, Sparda is still alive to date (post DMC5) and still has a part to play.
In contradiction to what I've just said, if he is alive, I don't think he will be for long. I wouldn't be surprised if Dante and Vergil find him somewhere down in hell, imprisoned or otherwise incapacitated by forces unknown (maybe even someone pulling Mundus' strings so we can scale up the final boss fight once again 👀👀👀). Instead, perhaps he is trapped in a prison of his own making for reasons also unknown, maybe after trying once again to separate the demon and human worlds to protect his family from the growing threat Mundus posed when the twins were children, the threat that bore fruit on that fateful day. My brain, alas, does not have much space for detail (too many thoughts of Vergil). We're blessed in this fandom with many excellent fics that can explain it though!
Why doesn't Sparda live? I don't think he would make it out of hell, as amazing as it would be to see him answer Dante's antique rotary phone wearing his antique monocle and answering "Devil May Cry" in an equally antique accent. If Sparda were to nobly sacrifice himself to save his children, grandchild and the world they call home (put a sock in it Vergil!) it could be a way for the twins to finally receive some long overdue paternal love after all of those years alone. I don't know if either of them would be able to believe it with anything less than grand gesture. Let Vergil and Dante struggle to reunite with Sparda but ultimately find acceptance, respect and unconditional love for the people they have become. Especially Dante, who despite his claims to "not have a father" did a pretty fine job following his his father's footsteps and protecting humanity no matter how many times he was hurt by them. LET THEM HEAL! Then when Sparda dies it would be extremely bittersweet and oh so angsty.
Nero? I would like to see Nero awed and humbled meeting the saviour Sparda, a demon he was expected to worship as a god during his formative years... maybe for all of 0.0000001 seconds, before he forcibly makes Sparda's jaw drop with the power of his emotional maturity and some good old-fashioned attitude and badassery (is that even a word? It is now - thank you Nero).
Capcom, just on the off chance you're out there, I would eat that up. Please. Don't forget us.

Vibes shipping anon again! The fic in question is a crossover between Devil May Cry 5 and Nier Automata, with the pairing being V and 9S. The title of the series is A Devil Walks The Dragonsphere, idk if the author is on tumblr because I tried looking once but couldn’t find them, but this series changed me on an atomic level. A+ characterization and interactions between V and 9S (and other characters). A+ merging of lore between the two games, S++ plot and taking a sledgehammer to your emotions. It’s also complete so that’s a nice bonus.
It does contain spoilers for DMC5 and like… all of the Nier verse. So including even the Drakengard video game series which take place before Nier. Granted the author does a pretty good job of telling the story without requiring readers to know all the lore in my opinion. Or at least, I did pretty well despite only knowing Nier-verse lore.
Link to series: https://archiveofourown.org/series/1440319 If you get a chance to read it I hope you enjoy it as much as I do!
tumblr decided not to tell me about this ask, sorry it took me so long to get back to you! And thank you SO MUCH for letting me know! I'm familiar with DMC but not with Nier, but I surely will give it a try ♥

Jack wears a lot of rings. Do you have any thoughts about where he got them/if they have special significance, or does he just like them?
Thanks for this question, anon, because I legit keep forgetting I want to write out the info about Jack’s rings. So, without further ado, here I go!
Jack Sparrow’s Rings
As with some of the details on the wiki page, each of his rings have special significance. I’ve yet to come up with the stories behind several of them, else might leave some of them open to change dependent on verse. Jack likes to collect memories and attach them to his person.
I plan on editing this post as/when I come up with more or learn more.
Emerald silver ring with skull engravings - right index finger. Always wears this ring. Perhaps the most important of them all. It’s possible this is the same ring  Teague gave him that he once wore on his thumb when a lad and his hands since grew enough for him to move the ring to this finger. It has weak, failing magic that on very rare occasions allows him to convince people to do something for him.
Leather/fabric thongs -  second and third finger right hand. Jack wears these in CotBP, DMC and AWE. They could simply be placeholders for future exploits, but my general headcanon is they are given to him or snatched from lovers’ clothing.
Silver and jade dragon ring - left index finger until later moving this to his left thumb partway though DMC. Worn during DMC, AWE, OST, DMTNT. The wiki says he gets this on an ‘adventure in the Far East’. Unless this is clarified in one of the books I’m going to read soon, I’d say this is probably from an encounter with a Chinese princess. In some of my threads, Jack instead stole this from Hector and was more or less permitted to keep it.
Ring of Thieves, gold and amethyst Greco-Roman ring - Jack steals this from Tia Dalma’s shack in DMC and puts it on his left index finger. He recognises it as a ring he once stole as a gift for Angelica. Angelica had traded this for the ritual for the Fountain of Youth. In OST, Jack returns this ring to her in a deleted scene (though you can still see in the original cut that Jack presents this ring to her sans dialogue and in the next shot it’s back on his hand again!). “The first item I ever stole for someone else.”
Gold onyx Spanish flower ring - third finger, left hand. Worn DMC to OST. This ring was stolen from a Spanish widow he presumably had liaisons with. I would headcanon he trades or loses this when he’s down on his luck at some point after OST.
Gold skull ring with vertebrae finger wrap - second finger, left hand. Worn DMTNT. I headcanon he swiped this at some point from Blackbeard’s loot aboard the Revenge on a brief meeting with Barbossa after OST.
Otherwise, as with Jack’s tattoos, his rings and beads and/or their backstories may vary dependent on verses.

Need Over Want (Vergil)
I’m embarrassed for writing this. It’s like...really bad. I told you all that I can’t write anything remotely spicy, not even semi-spicy lmao. Vergil isn’t the character that I can personally see and write spicy things for, but the request I was given kinda hinted at that, at least that’s what I seen in my head. Anyways, Anon, sorry for it being so late, and I hope you somewhat enjoy! (If you don’t like it, I can always try again lol).
Requested by: Anon
Hi hii. Could you do 17 with Vergil (DMC 5)? I really love your writing thank you!
Prompt Inspiration (#17 -  “I know what I want, when I want it. So get over here.”)
Word Count: 1674
Warnings: none, I guess, (even for a semi-spicy piece lmao)
••••••••••••••••••••••••••
“Kiss me.” You sighed, running a lazy hair through your already disheveled hair.
“What?” Vergil turned to look at you, his mercury gaze narrowed at your sudden demand.
“You heard me,” You raised your hands in front of you, clapping them together in a snotty way with your chin tilted upwards and your eyes closed; the small, goofy, grin that crawled onto your lips was hard to suppress. “Chop-chop.”
“No...you’re not in your right mind…” Vergil folded his arms across his chest, shaking his head in disapproval at what you were asking, or more like demanding, of him. “Tomorrow, when your - “
“I know what I want, when I want it. So...” You stared him down from across the room; your gaze was so intense, Vergil had almost looked away from your darkened (E/C) irises. A sly smile appeared on your lips while you let your relaxed body be supported by your arms planted on the bed behind you, “Get. Over. Here.”
Vergil remained silent while he observed you. Your whole behavior and body language had changed within the last five minutes and he couldn’t help but smirk at the little glint in your eye that made him obey your little command.
He came to stand by the bed, looking down at you with a questioning gaze. Without speaking, you grabbed his wrist and tugged him down to sit on the bed. Sitting beside you, he turned his head to look at you with a confused stare.
“What are you staring at me for?” You questioned him. “I’m waiting.”
Vergil’s smirk grew, yet he didn’t move from his spot. He knew what you were trying to do, but he wouldn’t give in to your wants; he would only cater to your needs and what you needed at the moment were aspirin and a good night's rest. “Why can you listen? I said no.”
“You aren’t the only stubborn one in this relationship.” You insisted. Standing up from the bed, you came to stand in front of him. The little smirk on your lips talked for you as you placed both your hands on his shoulders before resting your knees on both sides of his hips, straddling him as he sat on the bed. Vergil remained silent as you brought your forehead against his and let your lips graze his all while staring into his blank, mercury gaze.
You paused, thinking that if you waited long enough, maybe...just maybe he would be the one to initiate the inevitable kiss, but you were wrong; the only reaction you got from him was a slight scoff and the slight upturn of the corners of his lips. You waited for a split second longer, but your need overpowered your want. You grazed his lips with your before pressed them firmly against his.
Vergil let his hands grip onto your hips to steady the both of you while you both fought to be the dominant one in expressing your need for one another. Your arms snaked around his neck to deepen the kiss. A light chuckle and a faint smile on your part came from you relishing in the fact that you were able to Vergil to something you wanted...even if you had to initiate it yourself...it was a start.
Vergil’s hands began to slowly slip under the hem of your blouse, letting his calloused fingertips drag over your soft skin. The small action pulled a small moan from your lips and you could feel his lips form his smirk in the middle of your kiss. Breaking away, you aggressively pushed him on his back, his upper body bounce slightly on the mattress.
“I’m not backing down.” Vergil stated, looking up at you as you stared down at him with your mischievous smile.
“I’m not either.”
Your fingers gripped the hem of your blouse and pulled it over your head and flung it across the dimly lit room. Vergil’s void gaze remained enraptured with your mischievous one; he knew exactly what you were trying to do but he refused to let you win; his willpower was stronger than you knew and he was making his own plan.
Your hands wandered towards your back, fiddling with the clasp of your bra. Before you could unclasp one hook, Vergil’s hands suddenly reached upwards to grab your arms and pulled you down to lay on his chest; the sudden actions made you squeal in surprise and excitement as you placed both of your elbows on either side of his head to get another look at him.
Before you could say some snarky remark about his actions, he pulled your face towards him and caught your parted lips in a kiss. You melted into his kiss as hands roamed up and down your back; he dragged his calloused fingertips lazily up an down your spine, giving you goosebumps with every touch of his fingers on your warm skin.
Vergil’s hands came to rest on your backside while you tried to take control of the situation. Your lips began to slowly stray from his, leaving a trail of kisses that trailed down his jaw. Not a sound was heard from Vergil, by your actions and it irked you, but with his fingers slipping into the edge of your pants, tugging on the fabric, it told you that you were doing something right. You pulled your face away from his, looking into his gaze with a smirk that matched his very own.
A small laugh fell from your lips as you thought that you finally got Vergil where you wanted him. You began to move off of Vergil to remove your pants, but he wrapped his arms around your body rolled over so your back was pressed firmly against the bed while he hovered over you.
“I knew you would come around.” You stared up at him, a chuckle that left your lips broke the silence between you two. Vergil was surprising you with all of those sudden movements that you were beginning to think that maybe it was only you that could control him.
Vergil leaned down to press his lips against your once more, with a bit more aggressiveness. While you got drunk on his kisses, his hands were torturing you on how slow they moved across your warm skin; he slowly dragged up and down your sides, squeezing your hips as he pressed his own body against yours, pulling a lustful moan from your very lips. His hand came to rest on the front of your pants once again, this time fiddling with the button for a few moments before finally freeing it from its place.
A bubbly giggle left your lips as Vergil began to leave a trail of kisses down your own jaw. His kisses grew soft on your jaw, but once his lips met the skin on the nape of your neck, his aggressiveness returned, much more intense than before. His teeth grazed against the delicate skin before biting slightly and sucking softly; his very actions caused a bout of moans to tumble out of your mouth as you pressed your body against his.
You pushed him away to quickly take off your pants and with that he helped you, pulling them off your legs and tossing them to the side next to your discarded blouse. As you lay there before him, he would be lying if he said that he didn’t want you in the very moment, but he knew that although this was what you both wanted, it wasn’t what you both needed at the moment.
“How come I’m the only one losing clothes?” You pouted, propping yourself up on your elbows to give him a look that was filled with pure mirth. “Why don’t you at least lose the jacket?”
Vergil stared down at you from his position at the edge of the bed, still wearing his smirk that you could see perfectly through the dim lighting. He began to shrug off his jacket slowly, teasingly, as he backed away from the bed and turned towards the closet. Wearing his vest as he approached your disorganized closet, a cheap laugh fell from your tired lips.
“Really? You’re gonna hang up that thing?” You threw your head back on the pillow as a yawn slipped from between your lips.
Vergil shook his head but said nothing as he picked up a shirt from the top of your dresser and turned towards you and whipped it at you. The sudden feeling of a cool cloth on your warm skin was surprisingly relaxing, but confusion crept up on your face when you saw Vergil stand in the middle of the room, his arms folded across his chest as he gave you his emotionless stare.
“What’s this?” You held up the shirt, looking at the wrinkled fabric, before looking over at him with raised eyebrows.
“Your shirt. Put it on.” He demanded, looking you dead in the eyes.
“Uh, weren’t we in the middle of something?” You asked, gesturing to the wrinkled bed sheets and your lack of clothing. “We were making progress.”
“Now we aren’t.” He stated, walking towards the bed to help you put the shirt on and push you to lay your head on the pillow. “You need to rest. Especially tomorrow.”
“What?” You shouted, tossing your hands in the air. “I’m perfectly fine. I don’t need rest, what I need is you. Right now.”
“I did what you asked the first time,” He mentioned, looking at you with a tired gaze, “I’m not kissing you again until that alcohol is gone from your lips; I can only tolerate that for so long.”
“This is just not fair…” You huffed, staring at Vergil with a hardened gaze.
“If we finish that job earlier than expected tomorrow, maybe we can continue where we are leaving off tonight?”
You shook your head as you turned your back towards him while he made his way towards the door.
“I hate you.”
“I...I will see you tomorrow.”

DMC Questions Anon here!
The ending of DMC 5 leaves the door very open for new character dynamics to be formed. Which is exactly what this question is about.
(Keep in mind that if you don't want to or don't think you can you do not need to cover all of these dynamics)
(Also, I do not mean any of these dynamics as a group just for clarification)
How do you believe Dante and Vergil will move forward with their relationship after DMC 5? What about Vergil and Nero? How about Dante and Nero?
Vergil is going to end up needing to form a dynamic with all of the characters after he and Dante return from hell. The characters he will inevitably end up interacting with on a normal basis will be: Lady, Trish, Kyrie, Nico, Patty, and Morrison. How do you believe his relationship with all of these characters will turn out? How will they start off, and how will they develop?
Dante has a dynamic with most of this cast, but what do you think his dynamics with Kyrie and Nico will end up being like?
What dynamics do you believe Nero will have with Lady, Trish, Patty, and Morrison?
How do you think the dynamics Trish will have with Kyrie and Nico will play out?
The dynamic Lady will have with Kyrie?
The dynamics Kyrie will have with Patty and Morrison?
How do you think the dynamics Nico will have with Patty and Morrison will play out?
What dynamics (other than anything involving a member of the Sparda family with another member) are you most interested in seeing playing out?
(I have another question planned to do at some point asking you to talk about dynamics not included here)
Out of everything mentioned above, I feel like the Vergil question is the most up to interpretation. Out of the entire cast only 2 members have reliably interacted with him for more than a day. Not to mention all of the harder realities you have to take into account.
Trish? She was created by Mundus -the guy who enslaved and brainwashed Vergil for years - and she is literally the spitting image of his mother, whilst also being almost nothing like her. Also, Cavaliere Angelo.
Kyrie? The entire Nero situation certainly isn't making anything easier. Not to mention the bloodstained definitely left behind in the garage.
Lady? Even if DMC3 didn't sully her image of him (and it definitely did), Artemis. Just, Artemis.
Even Patty and Morrison probably learned about Vergil from either Dante or one of the ladies, so they probably aren't expecting much at first.
Nico is the only member of the cast who really doesn't have a preconceived notion about Vergil; she just kinda met V and was like 'cool, a fuckin emo' and then she moved on. So, in my mind, Nico is one of the first people to actually reach out to Vergil.
Though 'reaching out' is a funny way to describe kidnapping him and dragging him an a multi-day demon-part harvesting trip because Nero said no.

DMC Questions Anon here!
Before you read this next question:
I was informed that it would be a good idea for my questions to be answered with a specific tag so if people wish to block it they could. Please tag your answers to any question I send you with "dmc questions anon" and I think that should work.
If you wish to be taken off the list, ask. If somebody wishes to be placed on the list, ask. If your anon asks are off and you wish to participate, just make a post answering the question you see going around.
Remember you do not have to answer every question, so please don't feel pressured to do so.
Please also remember to take as long as you need! Do not rush yourself, this is supposed to be a fun activity and I don't want anyone to feel stressed out by trying to rush to answer questions.
Now onto the actual question:
How would you rank the 5 games in the Devil May Cry series? (By story)
Separately, if you want, how would you rank extended material? (The DMC1 Novel, The DMC3 Mangas, The Anime, The DMC2 Novel, Deadly Fortune, Before the Nightmare, and Visions of V, all of which can be found (along with other stuff) here: https://originaldmc.github.io/DivinityStatue/Downloads.html)
If you wish, how would you rank all of it together in one big list?
DMC QUESTIONS ANON!! :D
Okay, I'm gonna do everything together, but i will preface this by saying i have a lot more exposure to some things than others, thus I will have varying degrees of 'much to say'.
DMC 5
I'm definitely biased for this (it's the one that got me into the franchise) but I digress.
FAMILY THEMES BABI MY FAVORITE THING
I just adore the main cast so much u do not understand. So much hype shit happens with em too, it's great. The characters are simultaneously over the top but also very real? Like Dante is the wacky woo-hoo pizza man but also horribly in control of his emotions and how to express them.
The Vergil reveal was so obvious but I dont care. It's good. The depths given to his character through V and Urizen are VERY good.
And NERO- lord everyone in this family has trauma
Also SDT was introduced in this game I'm sorry but no piece of DMC media will be able to top this because of it.
2. DMC 3
is anyone surprised
I love the bois so much, with their stupid catchphrases and horrible family dynamics. it's so weird looking at them like
I was nighteen once. I wasn't like them but I was nighteen.
Also the THEMES once again center around family, especially with the addition of Lady and Arkum. I also love this cast SO MUCH
except arkum fuck arkum all the homies hate arkum
Literally the only reason this is lower than DMC 5 is because no Nero, Trish or Nico. That's it.
3. Visions of V
i haven't talked about him much but I would also gently hold V (and by extension Vergil)
Really I just love this manga because of how much is shown and revealed through it. Everything is really visceral and hits so hard.
Literally everything in this manga stabs u in the feels especially the final shit GOOD LORD
but it really is tied with #4 because it can't really stand by itself? It needs DMC 5 to be whole, in a way.
4. DMC 4
I really wanted to put this above VoV but my DMC 5 bias shown through in the end IM SORRY
also yeah Sanctus as a villian is dogshit, i agree
and some characters REALLY needed more screen time (see: Credo, Angus, KYRIE) but also this game has the Shakespeare scene so....
also I just love Nero and his teen angst can u blame me
But GOD did Kyrie need more screentime
5. Before the Nightmare
Wow the DMC 5 bias strikes again, huh.
IDK man I just love the prequel shit. Like, Nico and Nero meeting is so fucking funny
Also Lucia makes an appearance for the first time since DMC 2 so thats cool
It also expanded the lore on how devil arms work through Balrog which I am SO thankful for.
Also Roc Goldstein exists now and everyone should know about one of the ONLY GOOD DADS in DMC history
Really the only other one I give my full respect to is Sparda, and he died when his kids were like, six. (Dante and Vergil r getting there tho, give em time.)
6. The Anime
Look Patty is the only reason this is so high I love her and if u look at my previous posts u can tell I love her and Dante's father daughter relationship u can pry it out of my cold dead hands
Also the lore with Sparda's apprentices, demon smoners being a thing, and the introduction to Morrison is very nice.
But also Lady was WAY off the mark almost the entire time, and the plot with Patty only really took center stage towards the end so :(
ALSO THEY DIDNT EVEN SHOW DEVIL TRIGGER IN FULL I WILL NEVER FORGIVE CAPCOM FOR THIS INJUSTICE
capcom if u put Patty in more shit I will forgive you (maybe)
7. DMC 1 novel
This novel is weird because it was written before almost all of the other shit so Canon often either ignored it or bent over backwards to avoid it until the DMC 5 era
But I like it. All of the new characters r very good and I love them all.
Grues death STILL hits me in the feels so hard.
Dante has lost so many parental figures ya'll
One of the only reasons it's so low is because of Gilver, the fuck
He made NO fucking sense for the longest time until the timeline rewrite and the retcon that he's a Vergil clone.
That fits his character so much more bur looking at him as Vergil makes no fucking sense. Everything about his character contradicts what we know about Vergil, even back with only DMC 3 as a reference.
Despite those issues, i am very happy we are seeing some rep for this book in the games and other media. U do not understand the screech I let out when Grue's daughters were shown years later.
8. DMC 1
is this sacrilegious?
Yeah the gameplay is good and it was a hallmark of its time but also Dante is as stale as cardboard here I'm sorry
Like his plot is the most uniform and overdone revenge plot I have ever seen and his relationship with Trish....
it's funky in this game, let me tell u. Thank whatever higher power exists that they leaned more towards siblings in later installments because I would be pulling my hair out otherwise.
But the quips r also really good and all of the Nelo Angelo stuff is my favorite part of the plot, so I guess that evens out?
This game was a very good launching point for the rest of the series except u know what
Also fuck mundus all the homies hate mundus he sucks
9. Deadly Fortune
Uhhh yeah it's just.... DMC 4 again with some things changed?
Honestly the reason this is so low is because of my preferred way of absorbing story is through video games than manga.
It's okay. Not trash or anything. It's just alright
10. DMC 3 Mangas
They're ... fine? I guess.
Like the first meeting between the twins in YEARS is very good, but also the manga is unfinished and all...
So I'll just leave it at that.
11. DMC 2 Novel
Gonna be honest I've never read this one.
So I'm giving it the benefit of the doubt
12. DMC 2
Yeah remember when I said Dante was cardboard in DMC 1? Yeah now he's silent, emotionless cardboard.
the villian is bad, the location is okay i guess, really the only saving grace for this games story is the concepts it introduces
Demon civil wars? Artificial demons created by people? Those are cool concepts! So cool that one was reused in a much better game, but I digress.
Honestly the story is probably one of the least sacrilege parts of DMC 2, and it still isn't the worst piece of DMC media based on story. That goes to our surprise contender....
13. DMC: Devil May Cry
DMC questions anon did NOT ask for this, but I'm putting it here so that everyone understands that this games story and characters are SO BAD that I'm putting UNDERNEATH DMC 2
But what can I say that hasn't been already stated?
Vergil is so far out of character he's basically an OC and his turn around at the end makes no fucking sense
Donte is an asshole who has functionally abandoned what made Dante likeable in ANY GAME
The plot itself is the most rehashed 'the government is evil and we must resist it' plot EVER
Even the new shit they added for this game doesn't even fucking work well.
Having demons that look like angels be the antagonists is much more interesting that just having angels and having them do NOTHING
Kat is literally the only thing that I don't have a super negative opinion on because she was NEW and I hadn't watched them fuck up a character I love. They just made a mediocre one at best
Needless to say, I utterly despise the plot of this game with my entire being.
Thank you for the question, DMC Questions Anon! I'm sorry I went a bit off script, but I hope it was at least entertaining.

Hello there! I'm the DMC anime anon that went around recently, and I was wondering if you'd be interested in more stuff like that? Questions that I send to numerous people to see opinions on. I made a list of all of the people I am 100% certain I sent that ask to, and am going to send out this one to everyone who has already answered, though people who haven't are on the list. I will admit though I had some trouble trying to remember everybody I asked, so only people I am 100% certain I sent an ask to are on the list.
If you are interested in me doing this (questions that I send out), then how often do you think I should send the asks? Once a week, once every other week, once every ten days, etc. If the common consensus is interest in this, I will take the amount of time I'm given the most and send questions out every (insert amount of time here).
If I go ahead with this:
If you are not on my list, ask to be! Reblog from someone and say you want to be asked and I will send you that question as well as add you to the list to send you questions in the future.
In a similar vein, if you want to be taken off the list, which means you will no longer receive asks from me asking the question I'm sending out, just say so and I'll take you off!
If you do not have anon asks on and wish to participate, feel free! Make a post answering the question I've been sending out!
If I send a question you do not want to answer, just don't! It's okay to not answer every question!
Also don't rush yourself! Take as much time as you need with questions! If another question has already been sent out, even if multiple have, still feel free to answer a question from the past! Take as much time as you need, this is supposed to be fun, not stressful!
Just curious to see your opinion on this idea. If you are interested and think it's a good idea, please state how often you think I should send out a new question!
Yo, DMC Anime Anon!
I definitely wouldn't mind being on your ask list; I have a lot of ideas (an an entire au I haven't even posted about) so having prompts every so often sounds great! Thank you :)
As for how often, I don't really mind, but every ten days is a good mindway between a little too long and and little to short for me. Thanks again for the ask!
