the lunar chronicles! (4 books) the first book is cinder which is basically cinderella in beijing who is a cyborg! the whole series is based on these 4 girls who are like the fairy tale characters but so so good in like a sci fi ish setting?

a series of unfortunate events (13 books) the Netflix tv show is amazing, neil patrick carris as count olaf was the best decision ever

miss peregrines home for peculiar children

the land of stories (again middle grade but it's good)

the inheritance games (there's a love triangle unfortunately but the mystery is good)

lockwood and co (netflix cancelled the show after 1 season I'm so angry) actually even I've only read the first book but I will be continuing the series!

Not sure about the context – maybe it’s a mission gone wrong, maybe it’s just the team up to their usual shenanigans – but when you catch up to them, you understand that Jake got hurt.

“He did?! What happened? Is he okay– Jake!” You hurry to him as you see him cradling his arm close to his chest. Now, it’s honestly not so bad, Jake has definitely been through worse; it doesn’t even hurt that much. But when he sees you running to him, looking at him with concern – with your beautiful eyes – he can’t help himself.

“Ah! It hurts, y/n! So much!” and you immediately fret over him and ask what’s wrong, and he loves the attention you’re giving him. He whines about the pain and how terrible his injury is. “Can you take care of me?” he pouts at you, leaning his head on your arm.

From the way the others are rolling their eyes, you understand that Jake is fine and merely laying it on thick – but you play along, cooing at him and promising to take care of him, because that idiot is cute and you’re quite happy yourself for the opportunity to spend more time with him

"What? You've got sun and sand for miles. What more could you want?"

"We’re in the middle of the Mojave getting shot at by bloodthirsty mercenaries! Literally anything else, man.”

"Well, now you're asking too much."

"Did you guys know that the Mojave Desert has a dormant cinder cone volcano?" comes Jake's voice. "We should go picnicking there after this.”

"Wow, Jensen. Maybe you can be Y/N's tour guide and share more of your fun facts with her," Aisha replies with a smirk at the camera.

You feel your ears warm and for the first time tonight, you're thankful you're the only one in the van. Usually, Jake would be with you but this job required three people inside and Cougar wasn't much for field work beyond sniping people from forty stories. Jake had more experience between the two of you and so you were on your own today.

"Um, w-well, if Y/N wanted to do that, then, you know... I have a lot of facts about the desert."

"I wanna hear them, Jake," you say. You're the only one who doesn't call him Jensen—he'd insisted on it the first time you met.

Pooch groans. "Don't encourage him! He nerds out enough."

"You know, if we lived thousands of years ago, I'd be respected for my knowledge. I would've been a great thinker," Jake pouts.

"And yet, here we are in this century, where you set the toaster on fire."

"That was one time and it wasn't on purpose! Clay was the one who—ouch! Shit!"

You sit up, switching to the camera feed on Jake's side. You can't see him.

"Jake?" you ask. "Jake, are you okay?"

"Jensen, everything good?" Aisha checks.

"Man, I told you that was a stupid move!" comes Pooch over the comms.

Aisha sighs. "Idiots."

"Shut uuuup, it hurts!"

You frown at Jake's voice and you're out of the van before you can think about it.

"Jake, where are you? Come back to the van," you order, wringing your hands.

"He's fine," Pooch scoffs. "Jesus, Jensen, you barely got grazed—"

You see them exit out the back entrance and you hurry over. Jake is cradling his arm, face pinched in pain.

"Jake!" you yell, reaching for him. "What happened? Do you need stitches? Are you hurt? Do you need to go to the hospital? Let me see."

"Y/N? Um... ooh, yes, it hurts so much. Oh, man, I think I need it bandaged. Will you bandage it? You're so good at it."

He lets you take his arm and you smooth your hands over the muscle, inspecting. You hold his cheek and Jake leans into your touch, whining over his arm. Pooch groans.

"You're ridiculous. Y/N, it’s nothing. It was barely a scratch. Stop being a baby, man, you know she gets worried about you for some incomprehensible reason."

Jake ducks his head shyly. Now you can see that the cut isn't deep at all, and will fade in a matter of days. But you tut all the same, hanging onto his bicep.

"I dunno, guys. I think we should inspect this just to be sure. Wouldn't want it to get infected or anything."

"What? I've stubbed my toe worse than that!" Pooch balks.

Jake has the puppy eyes, all but draped over you as if he just got back from the trenches.

"Poor guy, taking one for the team,” you coo, petting the nape of his neck. “C'mon, Jakey. Let's get some ice on that."

Current Book I’m Reading:

“Lunar Chronicles: Scarlet” by Marissa Meyer. Something about sci-fi retelling of fairytales is a novel idea. [I’m sorry lol (>v<)]. Seriously tho, nice book thus far and I really enjoyed Cinder as well, the previous book in the series.

Last Song I Listened To:

"My Love Mine All Mine" by Mitski. Newer song [as far as I can tell, just spotted it today for the first time] from Mitski who makes a lota wonderful songs that make me go (T^T) or (^u^) or some mix of the two. Is nice!

Currently Watching:

So actually just finished watch an anime called “Gene of AI”. I enjoyed it but not really on my top anime lists. First season [only season] ended with an episode I really enjoyed, but rest of the episodes kinda feel like filler or have the “end in same situation we began at” sort of thing going on. Which is fine, but kinda annoying when big things happen that is left on a “wondering what happened/will happen” that sometimes never pays off in any way (-.-)… I’m rambling…

Current Fic I’m Reading:

Imma be honest I don’t think I’ve ever read a fanfic series. [please don't hurt me ('o.o)] Enjoy small little ‘one shot’ / short story AU stuff or ideas [best ones are where tragic characters get to be happy cause they didn't get that in the official cause they deserve it and by damn someone's gotta write those sadbois some joy (T.T)]. But haven’t read any recently.

Next On My Watchlist:

Thinking Imma watch season 3 of "Dr. Stone" anime next now that it magically appeared at some point without me noticing it til a couple of days ago. (^.^)

i think that just in general i try to emulate the kind of writing that i like the most!! so my writing style is probably like… just one big patchwork of every book/movie/game ive ever loved LMAO. but here are a couple of the most prominent!!

first off all… poetry!!! :D a lot of books have probably inspired me too but i think poetry especially!!! since its usually so full of imagery its just become a super big inspo source…. :’3 some of my absolute fave poets are frank bidart, clementine von radics, AAAAAAND richard siken <333 hes my favorite ever and inspires me sm. my fave poetry collection of his is war of the foxes literally every single poem in it is so jjk coded ……

aaaa but also…. poetry aside!! i love kurt vonnegut a lot. his writing is so nice!!!!!! i recommend him a ton!!!!!!!!

AAAAND honestly anon…….. my biggest inspiration source ever ever ever when it comes to writing is disco elysium!!!!!!! its my fave game and honestly probably just my favorite writing source in general? if u havent played it or watched someone play it pls do urself a favor and do so….. the writing is so earth-shatteringly good and pretty it makes me jealous. it’s such a genuinely funny game too (but also so so heartfelt!!!)…. gosh. i love disco elysium like i love nothing else in this universe.

if u play it and then read my fics its GLARINGLY obvious how much its affected my writing i think psjdjd 😭😭 here r some quotes from it for reference!! they’re so good it makes me cryyy

misc facts under cut :-]

- i dont really have specific ethnicities for most of the jack dlc cast, but exie + her sibling, cora's little brother jr, and margo are all mixed

- nobody knows why charlie never takes off his gloves. even lillith hasnt ever seen his actual hands. if you met him past a certain point in his life you just missed the chance i guess. its entirely possible that its just because he likes being mysterious about it

- murr and his brother atticus (who ive yet to. design and show off. dont worry about that) are twins and complete opposites personality wise, atticus is a very pretentious rich guy and lives in a different state. in murrs route there would be a scene somewhere where youd be able to videocall atticus, during which you and murr just get bullied for being poor like 30 minute straight

- outis' friend, stop, has been hit by cars on multiple occasions, and it absolutely will happen again. theres a margo end im working on in which you get to hit them with a car actually

- juniper is friends with ashton, kipper, and alma. they have a band together but its only for fun :-]

- cinder lives in a little house somewhat out of the way of town that she built herself and she has a massive garden that a lot of the flowers in her shop comes from. oopsie and kipper work for her and often get to visit her place to help gather flowers for the shop

- roe collects things he considers 'timeless', such as books, trinkets, and photos. his house has a lot of these things. also he likes birds. he has a friend who owns an aviary that he visits occasionally when he gets stressed

- when roe flips his head around in the morning to keep the sand flowing, it feels similar to how popping your neck does. however, much like popping your neck, if he is not careful about how he does it he can injure himself. and it also make a horrible popping noise when he does it

- margo did have a typewriter head for a short period of time but got bored of it and had her head changed to the bell. when she gets stressed and needs grounding she shakes her head around and it makes a loud bonging noise. it was already cracked like that when she got it

- continuing head talk, the part of outis' head that is damaged is not the main part but the reciever. the part of the reciever that allows it to hook onto the main phone is broken and doesnt allow it to stay in place for more than a few seconds. he often has to hold the reciever in order to keep it from dragging on the ground and getting further damaged on things, and he has a slight bit of hearing trouble

- michy likes to experiement with all kinds of fasion, which does include more masc styles sometimes. she absolutely rocks suits and likes ones that have silly patterns on them

- juniper befriends stray cats and brings them into the apartment building often to feed them and stuff. jackson lets his friends have spare keys to his place, so theres been multiple times hes come home to her having brought 3 random strays into his place to feed them leftovers from his fridge

- charlie is very strong, however lillith is the one who does all the heavy lifting around the morgue, usually because they volunteer to do so. they dislike showing off their strength in front of others but are genuinely stronger than pretty much everyone in jack dlc. jackson is a bit stronger than they are but they could easily kick his ass because everyone could

- three townies i havent talked much about are military, gym, and dancer. theyre a polyam couple that would appear across a few different routes, mili is a security guard with military style training, gym is a personal trainer at well. the gym. but theyre named gym because they also used to be a professional gymnist, and dancer is a professional ballet dancer. mili is a butch lesbian nd is very smart and scary but shes also pretty kind and mostly keeps to herself, gym is genderfluid, pansexual, and a bit of a snarky asshat who is big on gossip, and dancer is a transwoman whos very sweet but has a short temper much to her own dismay. dancer and gym are the other two townies who appear during kara's scene at the funfair

- i havent talked abt them yet so margos gingling a chameleon for a head, coras is gonna be either a rat or some sort of reptile, and alex + bernies is a two headed jackalope

hi andy !! idk if u ever read the lunar chronicles (haha i think i was like 12-13 when it came out) but shoto rlly reminds me of prince kai the main lead <3 like the simultaneously awkward & flirty dynamic 🤭

OH MY GOD this is the highest compliment you could have ever paid me??? I fucking love Prince Kai, I love his flirty but awkward little persona and I am so thrilled you think my Shouto sounds like this!!

(You will have to excuse me but I am taking this as an opportunity to fangirl about peripherally related things.)

What I really loved most about Prince Kai (and this leaches into what I love about Shouto & some of the other BNHA boys too) is how good he is. He is so anxious to do the right thing and help people, and he continually puts his country and his people over his own desires/feelings. He just wants to be good and keep people safe.

When I first read the Lunar Chronicles I was totally struck by how different it was in that respect from most other YA romances - how Kai wasn't willing to put his feelings for Cinder over the safety of his country/planet - where most other romances had some variation of "I'd give up everything for you/I'd burn the world down for you/It's you over everything," etc etc.

Don't get me wrong, I love those romances too, and I'm the sort of person who, if it came down to it, would make the choice based on my heart and not my head. But I love men who are better than me lmao, and Prince Kai was it, big time.

Anyway this made my entire week lmao thank you for saying this to me. I give you big big big big kiss. 😚💕💕

here ya go :] i hope u like it! Brightheart helps Cinderpelt clean up in the medicine den.

Brightheart rolled up the last of the poppy seeds into the leaf wrap, patting out the plant’s wrinkles with a purr. Cinderpelt was sweeping old herb scraps out of the medicine den entrance with her tail, humming quietly. When she finished, the healer stood up and chortled happily. Cinderpelt shook out her ruffled gray fur, sending marigold scraps flying and took in an awed breath. The medicine den seemed to sparkle, every inch of it. Each surface had been carefully scrubbed and shined by meticulous paws. Stacks of fresh plants, cobwebs and moss balls were laid out on the sides of the woven den wall. They had been organized by their specific medicinal use, which made the head medicine cat very pleased.

Cinderpelt trotted excitedly to Brightheart’s side, carefully lifting her injured back leg over some smooth beige stones they had laid out on the floor for decoration purposes.

“Thanks for helping me clean the den, Brightheart. I really needed the extra paws while Leafpaw’s away attending the half-moon meeting,” Cinderpelt meowed, beaming gratefully at her sister.

Brightheart nodded, her good eye, brimming with affection.

“Anytime, Cinders. If you need anything else, just ask. Don’t go overworking yourself alright?” The ginger and white she-cat flicked her tail playfully at her littermate. Cinderpelt snorted, bumping her head against her sister’s well muscled shoulder.

“Yes Bright, I knooow. I won’t be staying up past sunset anymore, trust me. Now that Leafpaw is my apprentice, she’ll be helping out me out with my duties. I trust that little ‘paw, she’s shown herself to be very responsible so far. It’s her second moon on the job and my sleep schedule has gotten better already. You don’t have to worry about little old me.”

Cinderpelt pressed against Brightheart’s side comfortingly, twitching her whiskers and blinking innocently at the scarred warrior.

Brightheart raised an eyebrow.

“Fine, fine. But I’ll be watching you.” Brightheart widened her single blue eye, her pupil rounding in fake-seriousness as she stared goofily at her sister. Cinderpelt burst into a fit of giggles.

“Mouse-brain! How do Cloudtail and Whitepaw put up with you?” Cinderpelt huffed, no malice in her tone.

Brightheart grinned heartily.

“They love me, and so do you!”

Cinderpelt sniffed in mock annoyance.

“You’re such a tree bark-sniffing, poppy-head, you know!”

Brightheart smiled happily at her sister’s fake insult, an amused purr rumbling deep in her throat. Though Cinderpelt’s voice was pseudo-grumpy, Brightheart could sense the underlying gratitude and warmth the gray she-cat was radiating.

“Love ya too, Cinders.”
