I love system mob and Shigeo for so many reasons and one of them is the comedy potential. Mob and Shigeo having full blown conversations in their head and they don't realize they've been silently staring at the wall for 12 minutes while the others make sure they don't walk into anything. Mob and Teru being Not Straight and the entire time Shigeo's just judging him. Mobs just trying to bat him away with a newspaper so he can have his damn date in peace. I think Shigeo being fucking Goofy as well as, y'know, literally terrifying is underrated.

literally the funniest thing I can think of is teru leaning in to kiss mob and shigeo grabbing his face one handed with That One Expression and simply saying. "No." 💀

I agree though! shigeos fear over acceptance and feeling like tsubomi was the only one who would understand him I think would mean his sexuality is Off Limits for A While. like warming up to the people in mobs life Takes A Minute. so doing any additional soul searching now on the other side of puberty? pump the fucking breaks for a second

and its doubly funny that teruki who's been on the other side of him twice also has a bad impression bc he did it babe! he saw you at your worst and he likes you anyway! he saw you do terrible things and he stood by you until the bitter end! but he also choked you out and tried to explode your bouquet so fuck that guy.

reigen spinning some tall tale and mobs like wow shishou :) you're so amazing :) and then he says smtn else and shigeo drops a flat one liner that suckerpunches him & contradicts everything he just said so blatantly he's left fumbling to catch up. (and worst of all: it was really fucking FUNNY.)

which brings me to my next slide: the first person in mobs life that shigeo falls in with is absolutely tome. imo. she's blunt with her feelings, she's up front, she's sardonic and silly and she's a girl. safe all the way down for someone getting their sea legs. also imo tome is gay so it eases his concerns right. vibes.

one last consideration: shigeo enjoys his powers. they're a part of him. he wants to flex his wings. so him sparring w ritsu (gently) and shou (less so) in a way mob would NEVER before. but it's good! it's healthy to blow off that steam! esp bc shous a firecracker and also desperately needs to blow off his extra power. do u see my vision

mi-ae is kind of like tome? the energy and the goof factor for sure. she would be a non psychic who thinks psychics r so cool and her whole arc w cheol would be him thinking she only likes him for his abilities and he’s kind of like god fuck off!!! bc he feels like all anyone cares about is his powers whether they’re scared of him or they want to use him or they’re gawking at him and treating him like a zoo exhibit. everyone being scared of him bc they’ve heard he has insane powers and had an outburst in the past, but she genuinely just wants to be his friend bc she remembers being friends as kids and stuff and he starts using his powers in little ways to protect her !!!!!!! UUUAAAAHHHH

LIKE LIKE the first time it happens it s like he hasn’t used his powers at ALL in like years but one time mi-ae gets into trouble and someone kind of starts to threaten her and suddenly he uses just a little bit of psychic power to freeze the guy and be like hey dude. stop. AAAAAAHHH !!!!! literally thinking abt this in real time oh this post is going to be an essay. and then he starts using his powers to like. catch her when she trips or send a note across their windows or silly little things as he gets more comfortable using it again. ugh. i love them. and her genuine lack of fear of him and appreciation for who he actually is makes him fall in love like in the regular series OTL

and obv we don’t know shit about whatever the hell happened between them back in the country side STILL UGHHH but i would think it would b something like. they are like playing together and he’s using his powers comfortably and freely in front of her and it’s such a bonding moment god i love them <33333333!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

DW im like so stoked abt the questions i LOOOOVE talking abt the zombie au it makes me ill

i think it's a lot of little things that add up, actually. mob, compared to other zombies, is still quite reserved and quiet. in his weird little sparse mumblings, they occasionally catch what sounds like pieces of their names in the stream of syllables. even tho he's a zombie now and most of them r usually sloppy in their movements, mob still sits with relatively good posture and with his hands politely in his lap

one of the biggest things was seeing him sit down next to ritsu and plop his head on his shoulder. old habit of his when ritsu was bummed abt smth... they saw that and the gears started churning..

a lot of behavior can be explained away if ur desperate enough for sciency proof, which is what teru likely tries to pull at first. zombie mob watches ants on the ground and gets easily distracted by animals and bugs, much like he used to pre-zombie, but many many zombies do that anyway... the hug-back is purely muscle memory there's surely no recollection of emotions or a desire to comfort in there... that thing he still does when he tilts his head at confusing things is surely a Typical Zombie Behavior

when they go to grocery stores to loot them mob stands in front of the fridges with the milk cartons that are 100% expired by now, like he wants one. he seems more quiet and a little bummed when ritsu tells him they're bad by now and that he can't have one. him and teru Totally used to have one of those silly secret handshakes for the funsies and teru starts it on instinct one day and mob returns like ?half of it in a very stilted and sloppy fashion, struggling to remember but doing it well enough.that almost makes teru cry Again

but honestly, even without any of that at all, if they rly search in his eyes, they See it. they see Him, and they never know how to describe it, but he's still there in his gaze, it's just incredibly muted and tired. there's recognition when he turns his head and looks at them, there's even some semblance of fondness when they smile at him. you don't see it if u aren't looking for it, and at first they're convinced that's the deal, that they Want to see it so obviously it's just a trick of their brain that they Do, but...it is there. he is still there

reigen and teru quickly join ritsu in the belief that mob is still very much mob, in almost every interaction they have with him. and they quickly become just as eager to find a cure for him—seeing him be Him But Not Quite is harder on them than they thought it'd be,, makes them miss him that much more

HI it's been a month but i still think abt ur "Toichiro get nightmares" comic it literally lives in my head rent free i cannot stress this enough thank u for giving me all the suzuki fam feels ever in such beautiful illustrations, Toichiro is such an interesting character like there are so many aspects of him that makes him very different & unique between all the "terrible abusive supervillain biological father" trope, he's so sentimental and silly in his motivations while being so ruthless & logical with his methods??? & it's just so obvious how he loves & cares abt Shou in his own absurd ways, it's not everyday that u get a supervillain dad checking where the heck is his son right after announcing world domination plan

Ahh thank you so much, this really makes me so happy that you enjoyed it! The Touichirou enjoyers may be few but the support and tags I get under my art make me so happy <3 I absolutely love finding fellow Toui likers that want to dig into his character more than just using him as a punching bag and for laughs (although I also enjoy that type of content sometimes as well even if I don't get half of it).

About that panel - I can't really say much about manga Touichirou because I... uuuuhhhh haven't gotten to this arc yet. I first started watching the anime and only months after it finished I picked up the manga and am slowly working my way through it. But without the context I think he might be expecitng some sort of betrayal coming from Shou at that moment, since he's not there to follow his father. And we see how things unfold later when Shou confronts him. So I think he wants Shou to admire him, to follow him and to be the one who takes his place some day as the ruler of the world. But it is what gets me in the confession arc, when he shows that he does care about his son when he shields him from the attack - even Shou is shocked to see him be this selfless.

The very reason that I like Touichirou so much is his ability to grow from his past mistakes. And we see that also happen with Teru, Minori, Koyama and Sakurai and the fellow scars and even some ultimate five members.

And don't get me started on the headcanons for this man about guilt and sadness and regret and ohh I love his character so much cause there's so many situations you could put him in! And I like to to thing that some day he reunites with his family and continues to live as just some guy and tries to be better than he used to be and in some way he's experiencing life anew and learning about the wonders of the world once his vision is no longer warped by his past delusions. But even in the past Touichirou there is so much interesting things, like the fact that he misses his wife, that he's stubborn, that he's proud and ruthless and that he's lying to himself all the time about how perfect he is and how he never once felt any inferior emotion. But he's also super silly and likes vanilla ice cream and married his wife because of her big heart and he picked the cultural tower because they served the best omurice in seasoning city and I think he's a dilf!!!!!!!!!!!

how do you analyze characters yourself and/or what resources (wikis or other stuff(?)) do u use to like,, figure out their inner workings and nail them down as like. this is this character in [canon universe], this is how they act, so then for you can go, okay. if they were in [au scenario] they would act like this.

also what guidelines do u set for yourself to keep the silly guys in character when ur writing them ,

I reread the source material, mainly, wikis tend to skim some details. I tend to treat characterization in a very ADHD conspiracy theorist way where I extrapolate and try to find links between small moments. WIkis are useful for gathering small moments I might have forgotten, which I need to do because ADHD conspiracy theories get out of hand VERY quickly and I need to control that impulse.

I've accidentally made the same tweet about it more than once so Minegishi & Shimazaki are probably good examples. A lot of people default to Shimazaki being a soulless child-beating asshole, but all of the people in Claw do that. What I find relevant:

He does this for fun, and hasn't really come across anyone who can stop him, making him complacent in how much powers are worth

He focuses very hard on Teru, the only psychic strong enough to fight him

He is the one who instigated Serizawa's hazing in the omake

He asks Minegishi to stop being mean to Serizawa when he commits to the bit too hard, it made him uncomfortable

When he sees Serizawa talk to Touchirou like he's the boss of a company, he's uncomfortable and weirded out

So what I get from this is that he has an inflated perspective of his status in the world due to his psychic powers, and enjoys flaunting that, but in social situations he's pretty mild and doesn't enjoy antagonism or misleading others.

AKA he probably would not beat the ass of a regular middle-schooler and maybe not even a psychic middle-schooler but if the middle-schooler has psychic powers AND wants to stop him he'd LOVE to beat their ass because it means winning in a duel using what he thinks makes him special, reinforcing his status, which ties in with the general theme of Claw. Somewhat of a foil to Teru and a reinforcement of Touchirou's perspective here.

When writing fics, my first instinct is to keep this web of factoids in mind and see if there's any other details that can slot in. For example, what if Shimazaki is uncomfortable with actively misleading others because he's blind and he's often had that done to him? Not like he has any trauma about it or anything, it just puts him off a little.

Blindness is a REALLY juicy factor to extrapolate from though. Like did he have the resources available for his disability? How much has he depended on his powers? He definitely seems like the kind of dude who gave up on schoolwork. I mean, why worry about work? Why worry about accommodations? He's hot and can fucking teleport. Stuff like that.

Meanwhile Minegishi

Has killed people. Has the only canon kill count in claw arc

is used as an example of a "bad person" for Mogami

Incredibly serious and grim among the group but joined in on Shimazaki hazing Serizawa and doubled down immediately

Minegishi turned over a new leaf just from being vouched for

Minegishi was angry with Touchirou for discarding Serizawa even though they knew Touchirou was ruthless

Afterward, they changed their mind about using plants as tools

According to the databook, Minegishi 19, so if they were in Claw when Serizawa joined they joined at 16

After re-integrating with normal life they express gratitude

The vibes I get from these details is that Minegishi is antisocial but likes feeling included, and Touchirou recruited them when they were very vulnerable. They could have benefited from a workplace with friendly coworkers but Suzuki wanted them to Kill. (Another strong reason for Mogami to single them out. See something you don't like king? 💔) And also Minegishi has Super Autism.

I like the idea of Minegishi and Shimazaki hanging out because the traits "extremely aggressive and cruel with his strengths but socially a normie who tries not to push it, made it deep into adulthood this way" and "cold and utilitarian with their strengths but socially straightforward with a sahara-dry sense of humour, is young enough to not be sure of their sense of self" is an incredibly disjointed combo. I need them to be best friends. I think Shimazaki doesn't really care if people hate him and is blind so he's immune to Minegishi's attitude and Autism Death Glare its perfect

Sorry, lost track. Anyway just collect small facts about the character and do your best to connect them into their greater characterization. Don't be afraid to put your thumb on the scale for the importance of certain traits, every author does it

🥺 Is there a certain type of moment or common interaction between your characters that never fails to put you in your feels? - (not... quite the answer to this question but i don't think my writing style applies here so i'll just pick specific examples i like xP) i love interpersonal tension so much, i love writing all brands of it, from active arguments to awkward conversations to everything inbetween :'D but if i had to pick favorite "sad conversation"s, i love the serizawa scene at the end of act 1 of tttaac, i remember, as i wrote that part, considering it a mini few-act-tragedy all on its own, the awkward hesitance with mob, the texts from tome, the bits where he's alone with reigen and ritsu... very very fun. i love writing characters who have history and a lot of weight to when they interact with eachother, and you can tell in tttaac xD (on that note: the garage scene in tttaac, the argument between dimple and mob, was one of the first scenes fig and i ever came up with for this fic, one we wanted to write from the very beginning. not only is dimple fig's favorite character and mob mine, but we both love their relationship so much, it's very important to us both (both in a 'well written and beautiful character dynamic in a piece of fiction' way and a 'show of our friendship too' way) and a biiig crux of this fic. we loved destroying eachother emotionally with tttaac but especially with everything about dimple and mob - i wrote the garage scene and then fig got back at me by adding the videos. sniffles sadly)

🤡 What’s a line, scene, or exchange you’ve written that made you laugh? - OH BOY. i love injecting little bits of silly into my mp100 fics in particular, because the show itself is very silly and it doesn't really feel like mp100 anymore if its not. in crowfic, sammi and i went back and forth figuring out increasingly sillier ways to describe teru's wig, and we also wanted banter between ritsu and mogami to feel appropriately lighthearted to show mogami wedging his fingers in. i also have to express. one of my favorite running gags in my and sammi's fics that i will never shut up about because i think it's entirely too funny. and i express it because i encourage everyone reading this to continue the bit: the baby episode the baby episode began as a joke in tttaac, a one-off line in the social media segment here (fun fact about this scene, the usernames are all pulled from usernames in various social media cutaways in canon):

this was, out of universe, inspired by the fact that, to get a feel for "how subreddits for big longrunning reality tv talk shows talk", i went on the dr phil subreddit and found the only posts on it recently were a bot crossposting videos from the dr phil youtube channel and one guy asking about, quote, "the infantilism episode"

and i cracked myself up at my own joke. i don't know why i was so tickled by the string of words "supernatural detective baby episode", but i was. tttaac is a very heavy and miserable fic so we find spots of humor wherever we can, and i was just... so amused by the mental image of someone reading this fic and thinking, "what the fuck is the baby episode of supernatural detective" but of course our in-universe commenter does not elaborate. they know about the baby episode. this is a long-running subreddit for a show they're all superfans of, everyone knows about the baby episode. but you, the reader, seeing only a glimpse into these people's lives, do not. the conversation moves on. the fic moves on. the times a change. you cannot ask u/YUJIHAIZINOO what they mean by "the baby episode".

i don't remember how this part came to be, but as time went on, the baby episode became an injoke with my friends, and when sammi and i wrote ch4 of crowfic (which was published before tttaac but written long after the baby episode bit), we (sammi, specifically, who wrote this part,) decided to continue the gag. a piece of our cinematic universe

now, this creates a world of implications. for starters, tttaac takes place in 2022-2023, and crowfic takes place in 2012. the baby episode has now been also described as "weird", existing in 2012, and, most importantly, potentially being lost media.

i don't know why this stupid gag has affected us so much but it has. and i beseech everyone reading this who writes mob psycho fanfiction: somehow, someway, please insert the supernatural detective baby episode into your text. please reference it in some manner no matter how small. i want the bit to go on. i need it to grow, like a wound. i want to eventually convince people reading mob psycho fanfiction that this is a canon event they just forgot about.

the rules to the supernatural detective baby episode go as follows: you cannot describe its contents in any way, shape, or form, you can only allude to its existence and optionally that it is, quote, "weird". it may or may not be lost media, as it's possible reigen is misremembering. it exists in 2012 and is likely even older than that.

Now go forth. Spread the Supernatural Detective baby episode wide and far.

This might sound heartbreaking but-

She didn’t do much at the beginning even though she could see that you are in a bad state

But it eventually got worse so she couldn’t look at it any longer

She isn’t heartless as she looks like i swear

At least to the people she cares about

She will have more tea “parties” so that you eat at least some biscuits

But she isn’t that dumb

She knows this isn’t enough

So sometimes she brings you a bento with some healthy food

Don’t refuse unless you want to be greeted with a book in your face

Some small exercises

And by that it means her just watching how you run around a bit

“Ohhhhhh why is he running around?”

“He has been having trouble to take care of yourself and exercising is important”

“IM GONNA JOIN HIM”

now you run faster because tsukasa is behind you floating looking as if he is about to murder you

She usually doesn’t like the fact that you lash out your anger/problems on others by fighting

She prefers it when people can talk it through

Since she doesn’t like to get involved into those fights she asks natsuhiko to get you out of there

“What a bummer i really wanted to see the fight…”

Tells you to just come to her next time you feel like getting aggressive

She has her own methods to calm you down

Shesh where do i even start

He would also notice right away

But he would also start to try helping you asap

Since he doesn’t want it to get worse

Would investigate by visiting (if its possible) your house/apartment

He is unsure of his cooking

So he brought it once for you

If he saw just the slightest disgust on your face he will never bring you his food anymore

Instead he would bring you snacks from some supermarket

Well at least you eat something

Whoever your enemy is

Is now his enemy too

But begs you to get a hold of yourself and not fight

“S/o honey we can talk this out!”

Ofc he got in trouble for “not paying good attention”

But he would comfort you if you ever feel bad for getting him in trouble. Or for punching an innocent person

Honestly had at least once hoped that you’d punch teru out of anger

“It’s alright i understand you had a bad day”

Akane in the corner: *evil snickering noises while making eye contact with teru*

She can relate a bit when it comes to not taking care of themselves

But she needed a bit more unlike these two to realise that you aren’t feeling good

Wether its someone telling her or her getting the hint herself

Also would take action asap

Aaaaaand is also insecure about her cooking remembering the incident with teru

But she would be really good at motivating you

„S/o-kun lets go somewhere fun like a café!“

„Maybe go to the beach?“

„We can do our homework at my place! I have a cute hamster at home!“

Was scared the first time you punched someone

„S/o!!! Why did you do that????“

Would never get used to it

„Yashiro! have you heard there is a new fight with s/o and r/n!“

„What?!? Are you serious aoi?????? Ugh not again T-T“

She kinda likes to bandage you up instead of you going to the nurses office

„You’ve got to be more careful s/o!!! What if you get serious injured??“

„Sorry yashiro.couldnt hold back my anger“

She just hugs you thingly

„You can always talk to me you know…“

She pushed you away

And you were a bit shocked at what she was about to say

„Besides.you can always punch hanako if you feel like it! That jerk deserved it anyway…“

You couldn’t help yourself but to just laugh at her silly remark

i feel like mei would be able to see right through teru and it'd confuse him. he'd get curious on how easily she can do that and it's literally just dumb luck apparently.. she's not very good when it comes to other people's lies, just teru's. it only confuses teru even more. the two end up becoming friends and mei encourages teru to take breaks while teru is her personal model and reference for art

another platonic duo i like is mirai and mitsuba.. haven't seen this one anywhere i think? i feel like mirai would simply. Break and enter into his boundary. she leaves candy wrappers on the floor while running and bouncing around everywhere while mitsuba tries to catch her because he hates the mess [only he can make messes there] but he never gets her. akane usually has to deal with the scolding instead of mirai when he interferes.. he has to be the one to pick her up and bring her back to their boundary and mitsuba's telling him off the entire time because he let her roam free when he didn't actually

and for a romantic dynamic.. i don't mention it much but i do like aoilemon! it's just some guy with the cutest girl around. it's just silly and i like it.... like everyone's so determined to be with aoi and then it turns out she has an absolute loser for a boyfriend. she loves him dearly though.. him and his stupid idol rhythm games that he encourages her to play with him [she does, shes not good at it but lemon likes when they co-op and tells her she does good anyway..]

akane and shijima being friends is a dynamic i love so much .. they poke fun at all the mysteries but hanako the most.... akane would do the same with yako but she also teaches him how to do some stuff like sow and make dolls for mirai so she doesn't bother him while he's cleaning and all
