why do you draw the same dude over and over again. I love your art but I’m getting sick of seeing the same thing.
The reason why I draw Miguel over and over again is because I really want to, lmao. No one pays me to draw any of the stuff I post, it's all just for my own entertainment and for practice. I'm sorry, but if you're getting sick of seeing the same thing, then you're gonna have a tough time
If you'd like me to draw something else though, you're more than welcome to commission me! But otherwise, it's kinda Karen behavior to think you can be both a beggar and a chooser in this scenario 🤷‍♀️

I saw someone say Leafpool should've given her kits to Daisy and Ferncloud and called them loners instead of 'pressuring Squirrelflight'. Ignoring that Leafpool was reasonably desperate given that Half-Clan cats have been killed (Mapleshade's litter, Stonefur), tortured (Mistystar, Feathertail, Stormfur) or even forced to live with their other parent (Graypool and Willowbreeze),(and that StarClan and the system of the Clans is to blame, not her). And that she didn't pressure her, it's not even
Tumblr media
Yeah, I gotta agree with you. The whole point was to keep them safe and give them a life where they could be normal warriors who wouldn't be given trouble in their Clan. Pretending they're abandoned outsider kits would entirely kill the point of that. The Clans aren't even sympathetic to orphaned 'outsider' babies, just look at how Twigkit and Violetkit were treated. So my take as it is is nah, doesn't have the same emotional beats the original idea has and makes Leafpool and Squilf look arguably worse. I'd take the original.
I guess if I could change it, maybe have Daisy and Ferncloud be in on it? Or maybe in this one, Brambleclaw is involved and he's the one who pushes the loner narrative without the sisters approval (not the first time he's fine with fucking up kittens lives! rip violet and twig). idk, gotta agree, I just don't care for the idea.

ive just rediscovered an old wip of mine and im having so much fun right now. like i havent opened the document since early 2020 and genuinely forgot it existed yet there's 90k words and so much lore and elements of basic concepts that made it to my present writing in far cooler and more complex ways and the writing isn't great but there's potential to it and idk. it's been a while since i wrote something privately and while i hugely prefer the way i do it now where i actually have a community with it and dont hole myself away and act like it's a huge shame thing, there's still something hugely reasuring about knowing this is something ive always done and that actually i was always drawn to it and had potential and that's something to remember for when my writing block gets bad or i convince myself Everything Ive Ever Done Is Awful

SUPER DARK TIMES (2017) DIR KEVIN PHILLIPS
#tragically had to skip the 'are you afraid of me' exchange i love at the start bc. this scene is Long#super dark times#josh templeton#zach taylor#sam edits#btw i'm firmly in the 'Josh didn't kill John' camp. bc to me THIS scene is the point that... makes the most sense as Josh's breaking point/#'villain turn' if that's what you'd want to call it. because this is really when Josh... sort of 'officially' loses Zach. from early on in#the movie it becomes clear how much Zach is like... an anchor for him—the way Josh is just fucking *chanting* his name in distress during#the Daryl accident. The way Josh begs Zach to believe him that it was an accident. The way Josh turns to Zach for answers/clarity/direction#Like even if we want to take a cynical approach and think of it as Josh just latching onto Zach in the Daryl situation because he was There#rather than that being an established thing w/ them... in the aftermath of that same incident Josh is still looking to/depending on him!#Josh self isolates at first... but after they talk & Zach tells him they shouldn't act weird Josh goes back to school. (yes#he lashes out there because He's Dealing With The Crushing Guilt but *all* of 'em are acting off then—Charlie specifically calls attention#to the idea they all probably are) Josh goes to the party just like Zach said they should and is *visibly confused* when Zach seems mad to#see him there. He goes to Zach's house to talk and you can SEE how caught off guard he is by what Zach says. Even though the script version#of this scene is VERY different from the final version I do think this one bit of description from it is... insightful: 'Josh seems sincere#almost vulnerable. But Zach is too focused to see it.' LIKE in this scene Zach is already convinced Josh has lost it! He's trying to act#more neutral about it (claiming they could just 'draw a line') but we saw his phone call with Charlie. Because of his own guilt-fueled#paranoia—something shown pretty clearly through the assorted dream sequences and like tht scene of him walking in the hall hearing people#gossip about Daryl—it seems like everything lines up too well! that '*of course* it's Josh and what if it's *been* Josh all along and well#then the role *I* played in the situation really isn't *my* fault because it was all *Josh* and...' etc. even if that's more subconscious#But like... this scene is really when it hits Josh! from the moment he asks if Zach's afraid of him now like... there's a shift. although#Zach says he isn't... i mean he fucking stumbles on the word 'afraid' (like... he hangs on the 'f' sound a moment too long to sound natural#its very subtle but like Noticeable). But Josh sees right through him. Zach doesn't trust him anymore. Zach thinks he's the bad guy. the#monster. Josh feeling like he lost the last person he had in his corner feels like the most realistic thing to... push him over the#edge. like that's a compelling tragedy to me—the idea that these two poorly coping with the Daryl situation in these separated ways where#they *aren't* talking/communicating ends up CREATING the feedback loop that makes everything get worse and worse.#But for that to be the case... it wouldn't make sense for Josh to have just randomly killed John before this scene. I think it's a more#interesting story if certain things really ARE just coincidences but it's that Zach's paranoia won't let him see that 🤷

Now that I've finished dungeon meshi I have to say, while I understand the disappointment with fandom's constant obsession with shipping two dudes in fandom typical ways and ignoring the women/men that don't fit a certain mold and basically ignoring the entire rest of the story...
People acting so indignant that people would do gay or even straight shipping, because this manga is such a super women-led yuri show that's all about the power of Marcille's all-consuming love for Falin, are absolutely fucking bonkers and have lost the plot.
That is not to say that these shippers are not insane or can't be annoying in the typical ways that they are, or that Marcille/Falin aren't the most shippable pairing and just about the closest you're gonna get to something romantic in Dungeon Meshi (it's a platonic ass story and I love that), or that it wouldn't be nice for the fandom around something to stay mostly devoted to the closest to a canon pairing most shippable F/F ship. It would. But like. I don't know I'm kind of upset by that attitude now
And my intention is not to be super negative about Marcille/Falin fans, because they are certainly not all like this, it's just. WHOO! That is just so not remotely what Dungeon Meshi is about to a degree I still wasn't prepared for despite being aptly warned.

Ivy — some post-finale Golden Girls drabbles
There's a rose bush outside Hollingsworth Manor. It weaves and curls its branches around the tendrils of ivy climbing up their walls, blooming all the way up. It extends at least seven feet upwards. Dorothy knows this for a fact, because when she's standing next to it, with its green leaves and thorny branches, she has to tilt her head all the way back to see to the top.
They're beautiful. They're possibly the most luscious, colourful roses she's ever seen. But she cannot stand looking at them. They remind her of home — of the short, thornless Rose she left there, always sweet, impossibly prettier than even this miracle of nature's.
Whenever she enters the manor, Dorothy averts her eyes. She looks anywhere but at the roses that are nothing like her Rose at home.
How could she love these roses, when she's already left her heart behind with another?
Everyone here sounds like Blanche. With their long, drawn-out vowels, elaborate metaphors, and one tall tale after the other. It's no wonder Blanche is a child of the South, when every part of it seems to carry a piece of her. Dorothy feels her presence in the shape of the townsfolk's words, and is reminded of her absence with every drawling syllable.
Blanche's voice haunts her ears, here in the South. Because everyone speaks just enough like her for it to hurt, to emphasise the empty space next to Dorothy, and the coldness of her hands now that she can't grab Blanche's to warm her own with. But they're not Blanche, much as they sound like her.
Dorothy wishes she could shut out their voices the same way she stopped looking at roses. But she can't, so she'll just have to live with it.
It's what she wanted, after all.
All there's left of their love now is the branch of ivy woven into the empty space between Dorothy's ribs.

if you could... describe aftg in 5 words
oh this is not as easy a question to answer as it should be akfhsdkf bc like. i could describe its plot, or my thoughts on it as a fan, or how it makes me feel, or just make a joke, or or or and bc idk why you're asking it makes it harder :'))
but let's see...
plot: gay sports mafia found family.
fan: drama, familiarity, trauma, comedy, home
feelings: love, understanding, chaos, joy, comfort
joke: you know, i get it-
(as you can see, i couldn't pick which one to go with, so choose whichever 5 words you want lmao)

not to be a dick but if you've been through actual university level art school and you still think that it's unreasonable bullying to be asked to push yourself or experiment with different art styles or to have aspects of your artwork criticised by people you asked for an opinion. what was the point of art school for you exactly?
when people say shit like 'my art school tutors told me my art was bad bc it was too anime and cartoonish ☹️' that may be true but I'm not gonna lie what I suspect happen is they told you 'you should work on developing a solid foundation for any art style you choose by pushing yourself to try more representational art Anne getting comfortable with ways of seeing and understanding images' and what you heard is 'NOBODY IS ALLOWED TO DRAW CARTOONS EVER AND YOUR WORK IS WORTHLESS'
and furthermore I suspect that you were really annoying in crits and took any even slightly negative comment or suggestion as a personal attack even though literally the point of art school is to learn to take and grow from constructive advice from your peers.
shout out to the girl on my undergrad who burst into tears literally every crit for three years even though about the nastiest thing anyone said to her was 'it might look cleaner if you rubbed out any of your pencil lines after inking and also used a clean rubber while sketching.' and guess whose art didn't improve at all over three years and whose technique actively got sloppier while other people were moving forward in leaps and bounds? yeah.
there were people who started uni as the best in the class and ended as some of the worst bc they just weren't prepared to listen to criticism or change how they did anything. and there were people who started out very mediocre and went on to produce incredible professional work to a high standard bc they listened and were open to change. and that's got nothing to do with who was more painterly and who was more cartoony or whatever it's just. when you ask advice and get something you don't want to hear do you chew on it and try it out or do you dig your heels in and do more of the same?
and like I'm not saying there's anything wrong with sticking to your guns and doing art the way you want to do art and the way that brings you joy. I'm just saying if you don't want feedback, teaching or advice on how to improve I'm really not sure what the benefit of art school is that you couldn't get several thousand pounds cheaper by staying home and drawing there.
(and I'm also saying if you come out of art school like BOOHOO NOBODY LIKES MY STYLE AND MY ART IS WORTHLESS you might. need to pull yourself together and say either I'm committed to this style regardless of whether people like it and I'm going to keep building on this style and make it amazing, or I want to make art that's more like the work people like and I value, what could I change to get more where I want to go? but if you lie down and say waaaaaah it's so unfair that my art is bad and everyone else is just more talented than me then bullshit. by the time you've graduated art school talent is not the deciding factor in the quality of your work. it's a question of your willingness and capacity to put the work in, take criticism, understand what you want to achieve, and slog through trying and failing to get a certain effect until it improves. professional level art is not an innate talent it's a trained skill, and some people might start further along the path than others bc of their talent, eye or training, but the distance between someone who's talented but unpractised and someone who's less talented but puts a lot of thought and work in closes extremely rapidly. it can be disheartening but if you want to do this professionally rather than for yourself you gotta feel your frustration, have a good scream and cry about it, then get back in to figuring out what you need to build on. bc we're all guilty of sometimes going HOWEVER HARD I WORK I'LL NEVER BE AS GOOD AS MY PEERS but no offence if you just lie down and give up where does that get you? if you just start going 'actually you should all feel bad for not liking my work more' instead of making your work more appealing or finding the right audience for it, that's on you not on anyone else. what was the point of art school????)
#needless bitching time#i just. i don't understand why you'd pay thousands of pounds a year to get constructive feedback#and then spend the year treating any feedback as a personal attack#save your money my guy of you want to do it on your own and you don't think other people have anything to tell you#then don't pay 6 grand a year to not listen to other people's advice#saw three consecutive art posts on here of ppl being like MY TUTORS TOLD ME NOT TO DO ANIME ART BC THEY JUST DON'T GET ME#WHY ARE ALL MY PEERS DOING BETTER THAN ME DESPITE US ALL GRADUATING AT THE SAME TIME#friends it's not bc you do anime art it's bc they tried new things and learnt new skills and you dug your heels in bc anime is What You Do#but like. successful cartoonists and anime artists are ppl who've at least had a crack at life drawing and realism#to know what they're stylising and how#I'm sure there's some teachers going NO ANIME EVER but I'm p sure most of your tutors were actually saying#don't just do anime bc it's what you know how to do. try other styles bc even if you're bad at them you'll learn something#it's not just anime like. ppl who come in only doing photorealism are pushed to stylise more.#you should be pushed out of your comfort zone. different styles. different media. that's not where you're being asked to END UP.#it's a LEARNING PROCESS#like a lot of my direct tutelage was like. pushing me to do looser more gestural blockier art#use an a6 piece of paper and a fat marker pen for life drawing#or no lines only blocks of shadow#or use a 3 colour palette with no midtones#or draw 30 thumbnails in a minute#and the art i made like that SUUUUUUUUUCKED. and it's meant to. it's not meant to be how you work from now on.#it's meant to help you identify what you're missing and where your blind spots are#and what you can incorporate into your work moving forward#red said
