A GUIDE TO FINDING YOUR OWN STYLE: PART. I Y2K ୨୧ ׅ ۫ 𖹭

The Y2K Era became well-defined by 1997, replacing the Core '90s Era which had been known for its grittier aesthetics such as Grunge. The Spice Girls' single "Wannabe" was released in the U.S. and gained international popularity, leading to a new era in teen pop. Y2K fashion calls back to the biggest trends of the late 90s and early 2000s. It blends the pop culture of the millennium with bright colors and kitschy aesthetics to create an unapologetically maximalist look. One of the key fashion points of the y2k wave are: low raised jeans, crop tops, small handbags and mini skirts. POC POPULARIZED THE STYLE. The fashion icons of the y2k era were Destiny's child, Britney Spears, Paris Hilton and Christina Aguillera.

I. TYPES OF THE Y2K STYLE ୨୧ ׅ ۫ 𖹭

1. CYBERCORE

Y2K (also known as Kaybug or Cybercore) is an aesthetic that was prevalent in popular culture from roughly 1997 to 2004, succeeding the Memphis Design and Grunge eras and overlapping with the McBling, UrBling, Surf Crush, and 2K1 aesthetics. Named after the Year 2000 problem, it is characterized by a distinct aesthetic period, encapsulating fashion, hardware design, music, and furnishings shining with tech optimism—sometimes literally. Some of its aspects include tight leather pants, shiny clothing, silver eye shadow, spiky up-dos, Oakleys, gradients, translucence, and Blobitecture. Most Y2K aesthetics rely on the use of technology and slick futuristic looks, signaling the optimism for the 3rd Millennium or 21st Century. The Y2K Era ended around 2004 and was succeeded by the Frutiger Aero era. This style is full of mostly gray, blue, green and black colors. One artist that i think perfectly describes the cybercore concept are XG in their newest concept photos alongside with AESPA that can sometime miss the concept they mainly do.

2. MCBLING

The McBling aesthetic went into full swing around late 2004 with the release of the movie Mean Girls, the popularization of Myspace, the popularization of emo via Green Day's American Idiot, the phasing-out of 2K1, the iPod becoming a huge status symbol via Apple's silhouette ad campaign, the premieres of Laguna Beach and Lost, and Gwen Stefani starting her solo career, further hastening the end of the Y2K era. McBling was concurrent or overlapped with a number of other 2000s aesthetics, such as UrBling, Surf Crush, 2K7, and Frutiger Aero.This led into the ElectroPop 08/Hipster/Jersey Shore Era, which lasted from about 2008 to 2013. On social media in recent years, the McBling aesthetic has grown in popularity, albeit it is often lumped with or mistaken for the Y2K aesthetic. The colors of this style are: pink, white, silver and gold.

3. DARK Y2K

Instead of lighter and brighter colors, like pinks and pastels, the Dark Y2K aesthetic heavily revolves around colors like black, grey, deep blue, dark purple, and dark green. However, hot pinks are also seen in Dark Y2K fashion. The Dark Y2K visual focuses on freedom and youth, and rebelling. Visuals that are typically seen in the aesthetic are low-rise jeans and belts, with lipgloss and sometimes even glitter eyeshadow. Some of the styles worn could even be viewed as provocative.The 2003 film Thirteen can be seen as an influence to Dark Y2K fashion and visuals, with its main characters wearing cropped tops, low-rise jeans with a noticeable thong, and studded belts. The main characters are also seen rebelling and sneaking out, and getting tongue and bellybutton piercings.

as a neurodivergent person i had a lot of obsessions with things as a kid- especially certain movies that i really liked !!! i would rewatch these movies all the time, sometimes every day. the list is pretty long, but here are some of the most iconic...

tangled: i LOVED this movie. i have a video of little me singing 'when will my life begin' with a guitar that im just strumming randomly.. cutest thing ever btw. still my fave disney princess :)

zathura: this was like my favorite movie for YEARS. i havent watched it in forever, and whenever i mention it nobody knows what im talking about.. it totally feels like a fever dream but i stg it exists !!! look it up its actually rlly cool i promise!

alvin and the chipmunks: chipwrecked: yeah.. im just gonna leave that one riiiiggghhht there!

teen beach movie: this is like. THE best disney channel orginal movie EVER. forget highschool musical and camp rock. forget all of them okay? ONLY this movie. forever. the plot: AMAZING. the soundtrack: SUPERIOR. the acting: FANTASTIC. i had TWO teen beach movie backpacks for two CONSECUTIVE years in elementary school. I AM A TRUE TEEN BEACH MOVIE FAN.

frozen: i love frozen TO THIS DAY. the songs are SO GOOD. the plot??? YES. sisterhood and girlhood and trauma and true love and reindeer. best movie ever okay? when i was in the first grade me and my best friend at the time Claire acted out the entire movie at recess. she was elsa and i was anna and we got three random boys to be hans and olaf kristolf. i do not recall if we made anyone be sven but i wouldnt be surprised.

and last but not least, the one movir needing NO EXPLAINATION: the live action cat in the hat movie.

꙰ 𓈒 ˙ 𓍼 RAVANA’S DISCOGRAPHY : A DEEP DIVE

tw. flashing lights, photosensitive epilepsy triggers

RAVANA debuted in 2013 under HONEYMOON AVENUE with the hit single ROCK ME. The boy band went onto become the first and only successful artist under the label aside from the collaboration group TROUVAILLE (2016) to which they ultimately lost the rights to following a lawsuit in 2018. Ravana was met with what seemed like instantaneous success, angsty teenagers eating up the song like hot cakes. Honeymoon was completely shocked regarding their reception, genuinely not expecting them to take off as soon as they did—or take off at all. Ravana and their debut in it’s entirety was a shot in the dark. While all of the boys worked on the song, ICHIRO and producer ADDY were largely at work in the studio.

In 2014, Ravana released a major milestone within their early career, their first mini album CHRYSALIS, with the title track CAN WE DANCE? that was considered a chart monster at its prime. The album also featured promoted and popular tracks like NOBODY COMPARES and THEY DON’T KNOW. The tracks were even bigger than their debut and could be heard any and everywhere: on commercials, movies, YouTube videos, at the mall, the social media’s of youth all over, everywhere. Classified as pop perfection amongst fans, this era introduced the concept of the FRONT BOY. In Ravana, depending on the era, the lead would alternate between members, or as the fans nicknamed it: THE FRONT BOY. During Chrysalis, Kyrie was the front boy, which proved to be a smart move when his popularity skyrocketed among the fandom. He was easily the most biased member. Fans seemed to love him, favoring his mysterious persona, considering virtually nothing about his pre-debut days was publicized or talked about like his bandmates. The music video also gained extra attention when NATALIA HWANG fresh off of the set of her teen film BEACH HOUSE was casted as the love interest. With her following, she only further popularized the band’s video. Although, shipping theories went wild alongside this. This was also the era that sparked an onslaught of recognition from TUMBLR, the boys even being advertised by viewers as Tumblr Icons. The album sits at over 1 MILLION SALES.

FRONT BOY: KYRIE

Riding off of the success of their previous release, Ravana came out with the single CONFIDENT in 2014. Confident was heavily praised for it’s slick, pop-r&b sound, feeding into the image already surrounding them. RAVE’S were huge fans of their new sound, raving (no pun intended) about it’s darker tones and blush-inducing lyrics. Earning Front Boy for a second era in a row, Kyrie began to pick up his pen and get to work on Confident. He both wrote and produced Confident, and you could tell by how different the sound was compared to distributions prior.

FRONT BOY: KYRIE

In 2015, Ravana released the Extended Play DREAM DAZE. Of course, Dream Daze went onto be an utter success, selling over 2MILLION units in total. The era of Dream Daze had two Front Boy’s and was generally lead by Ichiro in PERFECT and Kyrie in SOMEBODY TO YOU. The music video for Somebody to You had a special appearance from POISON’S HAYOON, which of course sparked dating rumors and shippers to go wild. Some shippers having insufferable debates about who was the better ship: Natalia and Kyrie, Hayoon and Kyrie, or Eunki and Jamie. There were even a slew of in-group shippers, pitting pairs like Eunki and Jamie and Ichiro and Kyrie (if they weren’t being shipped together, they were being pit against each other) against one another. Aside from these odd antics, the band went onto have a commercial success on their hands, only furthering their path.

FRONT BOY: ICHIRO / KYRIE

2016 came their biggest release yet, with the release of their first full-length album OUT OF TIME. Preceding the albums release, a pre-release single was put out by the title of TREAT YOU BETTER, which was later featured as a track on the work. Treat You Better sent fans into an orbit, constantly tweeting about how excited they are for D-DAY, even starting the semi-viral trend: EVERYBODY KNOWS WHERE THEY WERE WHEN OUT OF TIME DROPPED, followed by either a funny picture of their current situation while they stalk the release of the album, or a chance to take a cute selfie directed at Ravana, desperately hoping for a Y/N moment.

Speaking of Y/N moments, this era sparked the infamous ever-controversial recurring occasion of KIMOON flirting with fans. He regularly would call them pretty during fan-meeting events, comment on pictures, and talk to them almost as if they were his girlfriends or partner. There were mixed opinions about this.

When Out of Time finally dropped, you bet the internet probably broke for the first few hours. I KNOW WHAT YOU DID LAST SUMMER is probably still their most popular song to date racking in over 500 MILLION VIEWS. The track included a feature from TROUVAILLE’S BRIAR, who had just debuted not too long before the collaboration. If the tracks on Chrysalis were everywhere, then the tracks on Out of Time were like the plague. I Know What You Did Last Summer constantly topped charts alongside the side tracks like WILDFIRE and APOCALYPSE. Out of Time went onto sell the most units compared to all other releases, sitting at over 7 MILLION SALES.

FRONT BOY: N/A ... KYRIE

Ravana took MUSICAL.LY by storm in 2017 with the single PERSONAL. The music video featured an appearance from WITH LOVE!’S ICHIKA as the love interest. While the song was a virtual hit, the boys weren’t too fond of its generic sound. KYRIE never went a moment without mentioning his disdain for the song and actually protested against its release. However, they redeemed themselves in the summer, coming back with the Extended Play PASSIONFRUIT. The song was mostly written and produced by Kyrie and Kimoon. This came with another trend created by fans, naming summer a “PASSIONFRUIT SUMMER.”

FRONT BOY: EUNKI / KIMOON

Ravana geared up with their first mini album in 2018 by the title NO CALLER ID. This year brought on a fan favorite era for the quintet. Kyrie wrote and produced majority of the album and stated that all releases this year were some of his favorites for the band. FRIENDS performed incredibly well on charts and with the public. No Caller ID is still regarded as one of their best albums musically and statistically. Their second release came in the later part of 2018 with the mini album POLARIZED. This was also a Kyrie-written album, also a fan-favorite album. SWIM and Friends were constantly battling for top 5 spots on the charts.

FRONT BOY: KYRIE

2019 came the release of the single DOUBLE BACK. The song was excessively popular with the masses, peaking at #1 on charts and garnering a plethora of streams. Double Back even had a viral dance trend on TIKTOK. This song was a very collaborative piece of work, the studio process being their favorite session ever. They filmed the recording process and showed that this era was probably the most fun they’d had working on a project even down to the music video. Although, around this era the boys ventured into solo activities, working on projects of their own more-so than group promotions. This lead to nearly two years of musical silence from the band as a whole.

FRONT BOY: KYRIE

After their unofficial musical hiatus as a band, Ravana came back in 2021 with the single NOBODY BUT YOU FT. CHARMEINE. The collaboration was a huge deal with the public, considering PINKETTES’ Charmeine was already embroiled in dating rumors with KYRIE. The fact that Kyrie wrote the lyrics for the song only fueled the rumors, alongside the Instagram lives they did together and other questionable interactions that they swore were just platonic and delusional fans warding off the theory that their fave could possibly be attracted to a pretty girl that isn’t them. Aside from this, the single was a smashing success, in spite of it’s minimal official promotion.

"So I was thinking we could go on the carousel, and then the-" you paused, looking around you, realising your friends had vanished. "Guys?"

Looking around you could make no sight of them, your height allowing you to peek over the growing crowds when slightly on your tippy toes.

"Shit"

It had been your idea to go to Santa Cruz on your trip down the west coast, wanting to see all of the shooting locations of one of your favourite moves and to enjoy the boardwalk. Your two closest friends had come with you, though they seemed a little less pleased to be in a town known for its serial killers more than anything else.

Maybe if you stayed in one spot they could come and find you.

Walking over to the edge of the pier you hopped up to sit on the railings, feeling the cold metal press into your thighs as you held onto a lamppost beside where you were sat.

Honestly, it wasn't that surprising that they had vanished, the two of them were alot more interested in the retro stalls the town had to offer than the kiddie rides you had been gushing about on the way down. Apparently a carousel being over a hundred years old and an iconic filming location meant little in comparison to a vintage skirt, or old vinyl to add to their collection.

Though as you sat there, legs swinging to thump against the metal to the beat of the jazz rock combo playing from down the boardwalk, you realised they might have just ditched you.

Shame, you were the one with the car keys after all.

Sighing you reached into your pocket, pulling out your old samsung and turning it on. 20:17. You still had a few hours left before you would head back, but you might as well call them just to be sure.

In that moment your phone buzzed, and crackled, the screen going white then dark.

"What the fuck-"

It turned back on, beaming blinding white light at you, and you turned it away as a woman in neon pants scowled at you in irritation. Looking down at the device you inspect it, expecting to find some sort of damage to the screen, but you found nothing. It was still just as battered as ever but the screen was working fine, the buttons clicking on the side.

Only, when you looked at the top, you had no signal.

Groaning you shoved it back into your pocket, hopping down to the wooden ground and kicking it in irritation.

"Just me, myself and I," looking around you sought out something to do, figuring you might as well do what you intended to and heading towards the shiny golden carousel guiding you closer like a jewel in the night.

The queue was unsurprisingly long, full of children and teens dressed like punks, with the occasional double denim delinquent. Honestly, everyone you had seen so far looked quite odd.

Very, eighties-ish.

Maybe the town was still stuck in the past. It wasn't uncommon in the states, heck, some people still exist like they're in the medieval era. At least here most of them looked queer and kind in nature, not unlike the outdated towns that chased out anyone that wasn't a godfearing christian.

You sought out one of the stallions, choosing a pale blue one with a fiery red and orange mane that looked like it had been done up recently.

Climbing on you noticed all the others around you were quickly taken up by one of the cliquey groups, a rather ruggish bunch who wore mostly leather and stank of cheap beer and the beach. Some even had the signature skunk hair you remembered from the movie.

Maybe a cosplay event...

Now you understood some of your friends reluctance to be here, it really was quite a strange town.

The ride began, slow vintage tinkery music sounding from above you that crackled at it moved faster. You giggled softly, trying to contain your childish behaviour as you turned your head to look out into the crowds around you, figuring now would be a good time to get a good look for your missing compadres.

A cold hand brushed over your own, rough calloused fingers pressing to yours before sliding away. Brought out of your focus you looked back, catching a glimpse of a colourful patched jacket and mischevious green eyes meeting yours before they were pulled away from you, distracted by something else.

Your eyes focused, and frozed. Your mind trying to figure out what it was seeing.

Four familiar, tall figures, stood around the chariot a few paces in front of you.

"Holy shit..." dark eyes flitted to you, only for a second.

It was them. It was them.

The lost boys. Alex Winter, Kiefer Sutherland, Billy Wirth, and Brooke Mccarter.

They must have been the greatest replicas of the boys you had ever seen, even in all of the conventions online, their faces never matched so well.

Maybe you could get a picture with them.

Watching on you observed as the opening scene was recreated, how they fought with their well known rivals, how the security guard held back "David" with his baton and thus confirming his death.

"Christ.." you hadnt' realised how aggressive it had all been in the movie, imagining the director had toned it down and made it more chaotic. It felt a little too real.

Finally the four boys slunk off the side of the ride, and it returned its spinning motion. As you went past them you held their gazes, watching as the one dressed as Paul sent you a sly wink, while David's cosplayer send something much darker your way.

Shuddering you turned away, and for the next hour you fought not to think on them anymore.

Another hour passed. You had ridden the carousel twice, the ferris wheel thrice and the big dipper once before you decided you hated how it made your head spin.

Now you were stumbling around, enjoying how it was alot more bearable once most of the families had cleared out for the night.

There was still no sign of your friends.

You sighed for what must have been the millionth time that night, looking around and hoping, praying, you could get one glimpse of their dumb, brightly coloured hair.

Nothing.

Not a spec nor a crumb of their presence.

Your eyes did catch sight of something of interest. Those four boys. Now perched at the start of the pier in front of a large lodge styled building, crowing at eachother like children as they rattled their bikes.

Committed to the cause I guess. It wasn't often that a cosplayer met the look to that extent, though they could just be bikers generally, those kinds of cultish cliques did manage to survive out of the 80s.

Maybe you coul-

No.

But maybe...

Surely they wouldn't mind, they must have been used to getting asked for pictures by now.

"Oh fuck it," you began walking over, trying to move as gracefully and nonchalant as possible. Hopefully you didn't look too dumb. The two dressed as Marko and Paul hooted as your approached, wide grins spreading over their faces as you neared.

Your face must have been beet red, you could feel the intense heat reaching your cheeks.

"Whats up sugar?" 'Paul' leant forward, torso bending over the front of his bike, smiling teasingly.

"Yeah babe, see something you like," 'Marko' was stood beside him, stepping towards you.

Gathering your courage you spoke, too nervous to drag the interaction out too long, "well um, I was wondering," a hand reached forward, wrapping around your arm and pulling you closer, "I-I".

"Awe cat got your tongue?" you shook the brunette away, stepping back.

"I was wondering if I could take a picture with you, I'm a huge fan of your work," finally it was out and they were looking at you rather funny, your face was growing hotter, now realising how dumb of an idea it was, "if not that's fine I just figured-"

"Sure babe, why not," it was 'David' who had spoke, standing to walk closer to you, it wasn't until you pulled out a chunk of - something - that he paused, "the hell is that-"

There was a flash and the four vampires were stunned.

By the time they had come back to themselves you had already said a quick 'thank you' before disappearing into the crowd.

"Did you see that?" Pauls voice echoed all of their thoughts, what the hell was that and who the hell are you.

You were ecstatic, positively buzzing as you moved through the crowds, looking over the picture and completely dismissing how bright their eyes looked.

It was perfect, you thought you'd have to go to a real event for the movie to get a pic like this.

Now just to find your friends-

Looking up from your phone you were met with a very different sight, the crowds still packed by no longer in such old clothing. Rather everyone was dressed like they were at a summer festival, with pastel crop tops and thick-soled shoes.

"The hell-" when you turned to look back at where the boys had been you were met with an empty space, a large mark on the boardwalk designating the space for disabled patrons.

Maybe you were finally going mad.

"There you are!"

You were pulled out of your thoughts by your friend's hands on your shoulders, turning you to look at them.

"What the hell dude, you were gone for hours," they looked worried, which was odd to you considering they were the ones who ditched you, "nevermind, let's go I'm more than ready to pass out for the night."

You let them drag you along, hands held tight in theirs as you retreated to the car, only one thought left on your mind.

What an odd night.

i just did a rewatch and like yes its insane already how fun and surprisingly good Teen Beach Movie and Teen Beach 2 are, but its more insane how good they could be if they bothered to use the incredible potential and the THEMES

Wet Side Story - The time loop vibes. the "what if Sisyphus WAS happy rolling the rock, until he remembered the nature of his predicament". and "what if Sisyphus put down the rock and walked away and then HAD to go back". the Orpheus and Eurydice of Brady and Mack. feminist icon Lela. perfect ken doll Tanner.

like my god. Someone has GOT to make the two movies into a single stage musical where the song lyrics are less empty and gut a bunch of exposition to make room for expanding on the Themes/character development.

Cassian x reader

Azriel x OC! reader'scousin

Short Summary: Two girls, cousins, somehow find themselves inside a slightly modified version of their favorite book saga ACOTAR. What will happen to them, things have changed and not just their situation but themselves...are those pointy ears they now have?

Chapter 10

"If you love me, love me, love me like you say. Darling tell me all the ways, tell me all the ways!"

Something seemed to click in Roxanne's mind and she asked.

"Wasn't that the song assigned to Dude?"

Dude was the nickname Roxy had given a guy I'd had a crush on but who basically ignored me and then afterwards decided to ask me out, he lost his shot and tried later than he should've... referring to me as dude to top it off, hence the nickname

"Nooo, we don't speak of Dude alright?! Just no."

Roxanne snorted inelegantly but I was headset on changing the topic so I tried to find another song in my mind.

One comes to mind but I just can't pin point the name so I just excitedly start jumping on my feet trying to give hints to Roxanne.

"There was that song...what was the name?! You know the one with the whistling!"

Not knowing how to properly whistle I just do my best shot and at imitating sounds, which is a fail considering Roxy's face.

"You're bouncing around like a bunny Nell, relax."

I huff and try to keep still on my feet before taking a different approach at describing the song.

"You know the one from the planes movie, with all the hot guys at the beach during sunset in swim trucks?! It goes I'm not worried?"

Of course it's the description of the scene that actually makes it click in Roxanne's mind.

"Oh, I ain't worried from Top gun! Yeah, the hot shirtless guys under the sunset, does ring a bell."

And just to further humiliate me she does the iconic whistling perfectly.

"And the slow MO running, like damn no need to flaunt I might pass out!"

Roxanne laughs nodding in agreement until we both finally calm down only to notice the inner circle is still not done chatting, it's less fun when you can't actually hear their conversations.

So, already bored out of my mind and not wanting to give myself the time to process everything that's happened and panic, I walk over to Lucien's corner. Roxanne follows along after a moment giving the redhead a warning side eye from behind me while I reach out my hand for him to shake.

"Hey!"

Lucien frowns giving Roxy a look filled with uneasiness and looking back at me in confusion. Taking my hand mostly out of habit.

"Hello?"

"Your voice is different than I imagined but somehow it fits you... Anyways I'm Leonor and that's Roxanne my cousin! I'm guessing you aren't in on their little private chat and since they're taking a bit too long I just wanted to chat."

I give him my widest smile, to be fair when I read the first book as a teen I had more of a crush on him than on Tamlin so it's sort of fun to be able to meet him in real life.

Roxy on the other hand mostly found him annoying, especially further in the books. Although she did once admit he was fun in the first book!
