Do you know what happens in the body of someone with type 1 vs type 2 diabetes vs a "healthy pancreas"? This is a simple illustration. Type 1 diabetics produce either very small amounts or no insulin. Type 2 diabetics produce insulin but the body is resistant and glucose can't be taken by the cells that need it. A "normal" pancreas produces insulin after our blood sugar increases secondary to a meal with carbohidrates or protein. Ha, if this isn't true idk what is! Anyone else get a "shot" of insulin upon placing a new pod? Carter does! 🙋🏼‍♀️🤷🏼‍♀️ So when he went to eat last night we had to factor in some sort of insulin dose that would be given in the new site, subtract that from what dinners bolus would be and go off that. Oh, and it was almost bed time so we erred on the side of caution as always but then he also needed a bath and the warm water makes him drop quickly 🤦🏼‍♀️ so you tell me, oh mighty God of Insulin... December 2, 2017, we finally left the hospital after Carter's diagnosis 31 days prior on 11/1/17. We didn't hold his hand, because he was just shy of 7 months old and was in a stroller. But I'll never forget that feeling of leaving Boston Children's with him. I was so happy to be leaving the hospital after such a long stay but also so, SO scared and anxious thinking about how I'd manage this tiny little man's blood sugar without the constant supervision of doctors and nurses.
