The new face in the arrogance, hubris and/or hypocrisy/causes problems on purpose intersection underneath Kissai is Shakkai, the twins’ younger sister, who I believe I made an intro post for a little while back and have talked a bit about before but didn’t really show a picture of her, so...there ya go that’s what she looks like! :D You’ll get a closer look at her later on in the week when I finish answering a meme tag from a while ago, don’t worry! ;)

Everyone else should be easy to identify for most. The Cathar is Qanarr, Aria’s Jedi Master who has appeared in the most recent chapters of Creeping Shadows (which I promise is not dead, Aria is just on strike rn/the Ahaszaai family keeps hogging my attention XD), for anyone who needs a refresher, I know I don’t talk about her much, she suffers from serious Pretty Boring Basic Side Character disease. Subterfugeverse Name Pronunciations

Jumping on the name pronunciation bandwagon cause I’ve seen a couple of my mutuals doing this *fingerguns* and I realised that even though I included it on the fancy bio page (yes, I’m still working on it I haven’t forgotten, I just need more screenshots/pictures and time to write out all the detailed lore schtuff) I forgot to put it on the mobile Masterpost. So I’ll be popping this link onto there now too for everyone’s perusal :’D LONG POST AHEAD

So, the only ones I ever really used specific “grammar” rules for were the tomato family (+ Aria because her name is actually rooted in High Sith), all the others are just pronounced as we would normally use the syllables in English.

I haven’t got any OCs rn who would have used Common Sith, they’re all Highborn Nobility Brats 🤣 so High Sith it is pshshsuysgd

I used the canonical information we’re given on the pronunciation of the vowels, I ignored absolutely everything else about it bc if you scroll down and read the bit at the bottom of “Behind the Scenes” it’s clear that the phonetics are a hot dumpster fire so it’s basically free real estate* *a.k.a. I used my (admittedly limited) MFL knowledge of pronunciation in Afrikaans and German to make “educated guesses” on what seemed to flow best with the vowel sounds so pls don’t come for me and be gentle, I’m trying to make them sound ✨pretty✨ while still being as lore-accurate as is possible mmmhmm

Ok good, without further ado then~

The Ahaszaai - High Sith

“Ahaszaai” itself is pronounced “ahh-zzy-aye” (with a very quick “flow” and little pause between the first and second syllables, but more stress on the final syllable, as in “buy”). Phonics-wise, I could have spelt it “Aszai” and kept the pronounciation the same per the messy “rules” given by canon, but I think “Ahaszaai” reads a lot nicer, don’t you? :D

Saarai

“szah-rye”

“S” is more of a “Z” sound in both Afrikaans and German so it made most sense to me, to say the same would be true in High Sith given the “hardness” of the vowels. It flows together better. As with her family name, the end of Rai’s name is stressed on the last syllable (as in “buy”) as well. Named both for the High Sith word, meaning “Truth”, and chosen by her father due to the similarity with her late grandmother, Saa’thri (”szah-th-ree”), as a way to honour her memory.

Ni’kasi

“nee-kah-zhee” ETA: after some time and a lot of research, I’ve discovered that Kas’s name DOES in fact have a meaning in High Sith, it means “Divine Warpath” (yeah, D’leah went hard with her kids’ names sjkgdjkgd). Again, as is true with a lot of Sith words, all long vowel sounds here. Ni’kasi’s name tends to sound a lot more “elegant” than her twin’s, as the “s” in her name is softened by the surrounding vowel sounds, whereas Saarai’s is a lot harder as it preceeds the vowels ;)

Kissai

“kee-sz-igh” Named after the Priest caste of old (by the same name), for his more serene personality. This is somewhat ironic, as topping out at near 7 feet tall it’s almost certain that he had Massassi (Warrior caste) blood in his line and was unlikely to have been related to any Kissai-caste Sith at all.

D’leahane | D’leah*

*whose name breaks nearly every “rule” but she’s the token red herring don’t mind her lmaooo

“Duh-leh-nuh”, the second “a” in her name being a silent letter that isn’t enunciated with the others | “Duh-leh”

Abaron

“ah-bah-ron”

Not much to add about this one! Basically what it says on the tin!

Tyûk

“tee-uck”

From the High Sith word meaning “Strength”, Saarai wanted to give him a “strong” name in the hopes that it might bring him better fortunes in his life. For so long, part of me wanted to break the “rules” here and pronounce it as “tee-yook” because it would have sounded equally plausible, but if I’m gonna treat the other circumflexed letters as short vowels like they’re supposed to be then the same thing has to apply to Ty’s name. 🤣

Shakkai | Sha

“zzh-haah-kye” | Zs-hah

Same as her sisters, “s” makes a “z” sound, for her “full” name the vowel sound is quite drawn out, but for the shortened/nickname version both the beginning syllable and the vowel sound are shorter and less stressed.

Her name doesn’t have a particular meaning, I just liked the way it sounded. There’s a word on the known vocab list (without a translation), “Shokkai”, I typo’d an “a” instead of an “o” - I already have a “Sho”, so I’d decided her nickname would be “Sha” instead so I wouldn’t get confused - when I did her first Character Sheet but actually liked how it sounded so I kept it hahaha

*fun fact, I nearly named her Shâsot which means “passion” but it just didn’t sound “right” as a name, so I went with Shakkai instead.

Paalea Izreni | Paa

“Paah-lee-uh ees-ren-ee” | “Paa” is literally just like the first syllable of her full name

Just like “s” makes a “z” sound, “z” makes an “s” sound. She gets to go here because she’s Kissai’s half-sister and therefore through marriage is part of the Ahaszaai family, even if she still uses their family’s “maiden” name and not the Ahaszaai name herself.

Again, it doesn’t mean anything in particular, it just sounded pretty *shrugs*

Non-Ahaszaai High Sith Names

Other characters who were named with the High Sith language, though they don’t belong to the Ahaszaai bloodline.

Aria

“Ah-ree-ah”, all long vowel sounds for her, no short “uh” ‘s here, vowel sounds in Sith are loooonggg (unless you’re D’leah because she said “fuck you Elven this is my name we’re keeping it” XD) , which means absolutely no “arrie-uh” either, please, you’ll upset her.

“But Elven “arrie-uh” is a real name and that’s how we would pronounce it!” Well, yes, except that Aria’s father actually named her for the High Sith word “Ari” (ah-ree), which means “Lord”, and not our version of the name and therefore, she uses the “Sith pronunciation” :’D

Chwûq

“Chuh-wuck” One of Aria’s Tuk’ata, named by her father Roan when he earned their trust, Chwûq’s name means “Embers” and was chosen for the glowing appearance of her eyes. All short, quite heavily stressed syllables for her name.

Taral

“tah-raah-ll” Aria’s second Tuk’ata and Chwûq’s mate. From the High Sith word meaning “He who protects”, for his loyalty to his mate, Roan and Aria.

Kahri

“Kh-haah-ree” Ni’kasi’s pet miniature sleen, named for the High Sith word meaning “Fang” (yes, she gave her lizard the lame typical “dog” name, but it sounds so much cooler in High Sith! 😂). The first syllable is heavily stressed, as if with a catch in your throat.

Naalush Zuzuul | Alu

“naah-loosh soo-zool”, as with Aria, the first syllable of his nickname is drawn out, like “ahh-loo”, not a single-syllable, “alloo” as it would be in English.

Tsâhis Zuzuul

“saah-hees soo-zool”

Pretty standard pronunciations, neither of their names mean anything, I just put together some Sith phonics and they came out pretty neato! ^^ Using the same logic from the “s” sound, I’m assuming “z” and “ts” can both function as a phonetic “ss”, the second “z” in their last name is a little more stressed and closer to an English “z” - it just sounds less weird that way ok guys? Good. ^^

Others - Elven Is Too Lazy to Separate The Rest By Species

Vano Shenly | Va

“Vah-noh shen-lee” | “Vaah” (in her full name the syllable is quite short, but for the shortened version that Aria, Merak and Vette use as her nickname, the “a” sound is a little more drawn out ;)

Merak Shenly

“murr-ack shen-lee”, pretty much how it’s spelt again. His and Vano’s are by far the easiest ones to not get “wrong” pfpfpf

Zi’verikreen | Ziri/Zee

“Zee-veh-ree”, “kreen” is pronounced pretty much as spelt. “Ziv’eri” is a Twi’leki word meaning “scorching”, for her fiery personality. I couldn’t find any solid fanon on Twi’leki phonetics/pronunciation (*cough* and I fell down the spiky tomato rabbithole and started to obsess over them instead*coughcough*) so I kind of used my best judgement here, other than Saarai, hers is one of my favourite names to say. It’s just so ✨pretty✨. Zee is pronounced as spelt, but Ziri is more drawn out, too, like “zee-ree”, though Ziri is far less “fussy” about pronunciation and will answer to “zir-ee” too, she doesn’t really care too much as long as you’re not cussing her out.

Roanan Saal | Roan

“roh-nahn” “s-aah-l” (short first and last syllable, long middle syllable) | “roh-ahn” (like “rowan”, but with a longer last syllable!)

Myala Thulie | Myla

“mee-ahr-luh thoo-lee” | “mee-luh”

mee, not my or mai for this lady! I have no elaborate explanation for this one, I just thought it sounded prettier this way

Qanarr Thimu | Qan

“Kwan-arr thim-oo” | “Kwan”

first “a” sound is somewhat stressed, as in “band” and “stand”, rest I think is self-explanatory. Again, no canon material on Catharese pronunciation so I did my own thing :3

A couple little facts for Kas:

-Not an animal person (with one exception being the miniature sleen Andronikos bought for her after they became “serious”, Kahri is their “practise child” before they have actual children and Kas treats her like one) -Deathly afraid of bugs/spiders. They’re gross, so gross, if they touch her she WILL scream. XD

-Has varying ways of addressing Andronikos depending on her mood and where they are: e.g. he’s “Andronikos” out in public/in company of others, but “Nik” when they’re alone together (and he hasn’t done A Stupid). Only calls him “PIRATE” when she’s mad at him for something or on rarer occasions if she happens to be in a bad mood and wanting to get back at him for calling her “Sith” when she feels it was The Wrong Moment For That hahaha

And for the author’s choice one, have a tidbit of backstory/fact for Merak! Merak was very young (around 5 or 6) when the Sith raided their hometown and took Vano away, but he was old enough to have very clear memories of his sister and who took her. As he grew up, Merak noticed his mother desperately trying to search for Vano and so he decided to learn how to pilot a ship and took up various odd jobs for a number of years until he had enough money to buy his ship, the Krayt Fang. Then, he became a smuggler so he would have an “easy” way to travel the galaxy and a broader audience to try and gather information about where the Sith might have taken Vano.

So basically, he became a smuggler because he wanted to try and find his sister. While we haven’t gotten to that part in Creeping Shadows yet (and probably won’t for a while), the fact that they both have connections with Aria isn’t a coincidence and is eventually what will lead to the Shenly family reuniting for good. 😄

22. Do any of your characters have someone named after them? Or are they named after someone else?

In a way, Saarai is sort-of named after her grandmother and her father, even though her name also means “truth” in High Sith, her parents picked her name specifically because the phonics/letter blends at the beginning and end of her name specifically came from her grandmother, “Saa’thri”, and father, “Kissai” ‘s names :3

61. Have any of your characters struggled with addiction?

(Don’t call her out like this Dina XD)

Aria has/still does! She used to have a very bad Glitteryl and/or glitterstim addiction, way back towards the start of Creeping Shadows, although she’s been clean for a number of years, and now won’t even touch medical stims just as a precaution because she’s worried she might relapse. She’s still an alcoholic, as well, and that’s something she’s not going to give up any time soon, she’s gotta cope with her stress somehow and going out drinking is preferable to some of her other options ;)

9. Could your character win an arm wrestling competition? How well would they do?

Oof! I don’t think he could win one, no. Merak is definitely the “light and agile” sort as opposed to “compact muscle”. He’s not a weakling and he definitely does have the ability to put up a decent fight, but I doubt he would be the winner :P

145. How much first aid and medical knowledge does your character have?

I would say “a reasonable amount”, he’s not a doctor by any stretch of the imagination and would never claim to be so, but Merak certainly knows enough first aid to be able to patch up a cut, bite, or blaster wound so his companion doesn’t bleed to death before they can get them to a medcenter to get looked at by a proper doctor. Anything more serious than that however, like broken bones etc. and he probably wouldn’t know what to do.

This one’s gonna be a mixed bag of characters because there’s not one character that every question could apply to. 🤗

7. Do any of your characters have depression?

D’leah does! When her husband died, she did not take it very well at all and she just wasn’t the same after that. She became very depressed and honestly was quite lost without him, though she had two young girls to care for and so she hung on for a number of years until they were grown up and able to care for themselves.

Saarai also did, for a little while, though Ni’kasi and Ty helped her through it and unlike her mom, she managed to recover in the end and get better <3

15. Did your character ever want to be a cowboy?

I’m gonna assume since this is Star Wars, we mean “space cowboy”, here, so yes Merak did! 😛 He’s always wanted to go out and explore the galaxy without worrying about rules and a “9 to 5″ sort of job. In the end, he’s ended up doing just that, in a way, though for a different reason than back then (he does still really enjoy the travelling aspect of smuggling, though)

(I think this face says it all, nah? LOL)

19. Does your character like carrots?

Saarai doesn’t, no. She’s very much a carnivore, and while she does eat some vegetables, they make up a very small part of her diet and carrots are not high on the list of “vegetables that aren’t gross”.

86. Is your character’s fear reaction to fight, flight, or freeze?

Depending on the situation, Saarai may freeze a little first, but her default reaction is absolutely “fight”. She’s built up a lot of muscle over the years, and has big teeth with enough bite force to crush bones, believe me, if she feels threatened enough she will use them, you do not wanna be on the wrong end of those fangs! 😱😱😱

Thanks for the asks, Dina @justanothermainblog ! :D no picture for this one sorryy! XD I gotta either draw him more or play the smuggler story and nab some screenshots but I digress!

8. Dreams

- Always dreamed of being a pilot, ever since he was young. Merak had a lot of those first-person racer style games, except instead of cars it was starships type thing. Played them to death and his mother pretty much knew he was going to be one of those “never stays in one place too long” sort of folks. - Would have likely gone on to be a Republic fighter pilot (and a bloody good one at that) if Vano hadn’t been taken by the Sith, as it was he took a diversion and changed his dream to try and search the galaxy for her, as has been touched on in other asks before! 😉

22. Family -His father’s name was Faw and his mother’s name is Nuva. Nuva hasn’t appeared in-verse yet, but she will have a few small cameos here and there, once the Subterfugeverse series gets to the KOTFE/KOTET part of the timeline :D - Apart from his father, all of Merak’s immediate family is alive and well. His uncle (mother’s older brother) is a Jedi Knight, his mother is a Jedi Archivist who eventually leaves the Order to come work for the Alliance instead once Aria reconnects them with Vano, and then of course Vano herself. He’s not talked to his uncle much, but is very close with both his mother and sister. - I actually considered making Somminick Timmns (the Mirialan Jedi Shadow NPC from the SW storyline), his and Vano’s uncle at one point, for obvious reasons this could’ve been quite juicy 👀 but since I’d already connected a lot of other OCs to canon characters and NPCs, I didn’t want the web to get too messy so I scrapped that idea and their uncle is a side-character of mine who I might create as a Jedi Knight one day, we’ll see. 👍 - Merak was just a baby when his father died, so he doesn’t really remember much about him, but he’s learnt from both his mother and other family friends that he looks a lot like Faw, though he has his mother’s eyes. <3

I’ve done all the main gals for this, so this time we’re gonna let Merak have some of the spotlight cause I don’t really feature him very often! (and I have a sneaking suspicion I promised not to pick another tomato if I got tagged in this meme again, so I keep my word guys!! XD)

Head Canons! Vano 11 !

(I don’t have any screenshots/edits of them together rn (I was incredibly slow to the screenshot party with Vano and I have yet to do a re-run for her lolol), but I defo want to make some with her, Aria and Kas in the future once Ari & Kas are caught up to that part of the story so stay tuned! :D)

11. Best Friend

Ignoring the obvious one which is Aria: despite all their ups and downs, they’ve known each other the longest, since they were acolytes. I’ve talked a lot about their mess of a relationship in other posts tho so let’s give the spotlight of this ask to the other truly platonic best friends :’3 -Vette: Another potentially obvious one, given that Vano is a LS! Sith Warrior, but Vette. That Twi’lek was not only her first real company in a longass time after Aria “died” (left), but also the first person that Vano felt she could be herself around, even if Vette made fun of her for it and called her “the worst Sith to ever exist”. She sees Vette as the little sister she never had, and was more than devastated to wake up from her carbonite nap and be told that Vette had gone missing. Vano wouldn’t rest until they’d found her again and now that Vette’s back in the Alliance, she’s here to stay no matter what. Not only is Vette super talented at piloting and slicing, but she’s had Vano’s back through thick and thin no matter what and Vano intends to do the same for her.

-Ni’kasi: This one might be surprising, because morally they are quite different. Vano would rather avoid killing someone, even if that someone was particularly terrible for instance, whereas Ni’kasi is not above applying a little...Force, shall we say, to get someone talking ;) But they are, in fact, best friends. After Lana’s cover was blown, especially, and she, Theron and Jakarro had to hide out on Rishii, Vano and Ni’kasi were the only ones left for each other to confide in on their quest to expose and stop the Revanites and despite their differing ways of dealing with problems, they’re both authoritive ladies who ultimately want to do the right thing, which means they mesh quite well. They find eachother dependable even in the worst times. - This increases tenfold during KOTFE/KOTET after they thaw Vano out of carbonite and find out Valkoriate is clunking around in her head, because although Aria tries to be sympathetic, she doesn’t really understand how Vano feels about all of that...Ni’kasi though...Ni’kasi gets it. And without her (and Ghost Sith Mom too!) to help beat Valkoriate back sometimes, I don’t think Vano would’ve kept it together as long or as well as she did, she would’ve snapped a lot sooner than the Spire and done a lot more damage to the rest of their friends than just making Koth and Theron dislike her.

-Honourable mention for her brother Merak and Ziri, my other smuggler, who trawled the galaxy looking for this avocado’s kidnapped butt so they could drag her home to her mama. XD But even tho they’re close I’d say because they spent so much time apart, Vano doesn’t feel as close to them as she does Vette and Ni’kasi, so she’d consider them “very good friends” as opposed to “best friends”. Maybe in another few years, after they’re all back together in the Alliance :)

Another fun tag from @rainofaugustsith, thank you! :D Note that my dates/ages are likely off, I’m easily confused by the dating system in Star Wars so do feel free to correct me if they’re wrong hkjgdyugd. Note that my fanfic doesn’t stick rigidly to the canon re: Valkorion/Vitiate’s origins and takeover, though the dates are the same, the actual circumstances do differ for the sake of my narrative (cause it’s fanfiction and I can do what I want within reason and I wanted to do something “different” so yeah! don’t like that then my blog ain’t for youuuu sorry, you go do you and I’ll do me! :D) and I cannot elaborate further than that as of yet without giving spoilers.
