Subterfugeverse Name Pronunciations
Jumping on the name pronunciation bandwagon cause I’ve seen a couple of my mutuals doing this *fingerguns* and I realised that even though I included it on the fancy bio page (yes, I’m still working on it I haven’t forgotten, I just need more screenshots/pictures and time to write out all the detailed lore schtuff) I forgot to put it on the mobile Masterpost. So I’ll be popping this link onto there now too for everyone’s perusal :’D LONG POST AHEAD
So, the only ones I ever really used specific “grammar” rules for were the tomato family (+ Aria because her name is actually rooted in High Sith), all the others are just pronounced as we would normally use the syllables in English.
I haven’t got any OCs rn who would have used Common Sith, they’re all Highborn Nobility Brats 🤣 so High Sith it is pshshsuysgd
I used the canonical information we’re given on the pronunciation of the vowels, I ignored absolutely everything else about it bc if you scroll down and read the bit at the bottom of “Behind the Scenes” it’s clear that the phonetics are a hot dumpster fire so it’s basically free real estate* *a.k.a. I used my (admittedly limited) MFL knowledge of pronunciation in Afrikaans and German to make “educated guesses” on what seemed to flow best with the vowel sounds so pls don’t come for me and be gentle, I’m trying to make them sound ✨pretty✨ while still being as lore-accurate as is possible mmmhmm
Ok good, without further ado then~
The Ahaszaai - High Sith
“Ahaszaai” itself is pronounced “ahh-zzy-aye” (with a very quick “flow” and little pause between the first and second syllables, but more stress on the final syllable, as in “buy”). Phonics-wise, I could have spelt it “Aszai” and kept the pronounciation the same per the messy “rules” given by canon, but I think “Ahaszaai” reads a lot nicer, don’t you? :D
Saarai
“szah-rye”
“S” is more of a “Z” sound in both Afrikaans and German so it made most sense to me, to say the same would be true in High Sith given the “hardness” of the vowels. It flows together better. As with her family name, the end of Rai’s name is stressed on the last syllable (as in “buy”) as well. Named both for the High Sith word, meaning “Truth”, and chosen by her father due to the similarity with her late grandmother, Saa’thri (”szah-th-ree”), as a way to honour her memory.
Ni’kasi
“nee-kah-zhee” ETA: after some time and a lot of research, I’ve discovered that Kas’s name  DOES in fact have a meaning in High Sith, it means “Divine Warpath” (yeah, D’leah went hard with her kids’ names sjkgdjkgd). Again, as is true with a lot of Sith words, all long vowel sounds here. Ni’kasi’s name tends to sound a lot more “elegant” than her twin’s, as the  “s” in her name is softened by the surrounding vowel sounds, whereas Saarai’s is a lot harder as it preceeds the vowels ;)
Kissai
“kee-sz-igh” Named after the Priest caste of old (by the same name), for his more serene personality. This is somewhat ironic, as topping out at near 7 feet tall it’s almost certain that he had Massassi (Warrior caste) blood in his line and was unlikely to have been related to any Kissai-caste Sith at all.
D’leahane | D’leah*
*whose name breaks nearly every “rule” but she’s the token red herring don’t mind her lmaooo
“Duh-leh-nuh”, the second “a” in her name being a silent letter that isn’t enunciated with the others | “Duh-leh”
Abaron
“ah-bah-ron”
Not much to add about this one! Basically what it says on the tin!
Tyûk
“tee-uck”
From the High Sith word meaning “Strength”, Saarai wanted to give him a “strong” name in the hopes that it might bring him better fortunes in his life. For so long, part of me wanted to break the “rules” here and pronounce it as “tee-yook” because it would have sounded equally plausible, but if I’m gonna treat the other circumflexed letters as short vowels like they’re supposed to be then the same thing has to apply to Ty’s name. 🤣
Shakkai | Sha
“zzh-haah-kye”  | Zs-hah
Same as her sisters, “s” makes a “z” sound, for her “full” name the vowel sound is quite drawn out, but for the shortened/nickname version both the beginning syllable and the vowel sound are shorter and less stressed.
Her name doesn’t have a particular meaning, I just liked the way it sounded. There’s a word on the known vocab list (without a translation), “Shokkai”, I typo’d an “a” instead of an “o” - I already have a “Sho”, so I’d decided her nickname would be “Sha” instead so I wouldn’t get confused - when I did her first Character Sheet but actually liked how it sounded so I kept it hahaha
*fun fact, I nearly named her Shâsot which means “passion” but it just didn’t sound “right” as a name, so I went with Shakkai instead.
Paalea Izreni | Paa
“Paah-lee-uh ees-ren-ee” | “Paa” is literally just like the first syllable of her full name
Just like “s” makes a “z” sound, “z” makes an “s” sound. She gets to go here because she’s Kissai’s half-sister and therefore through marriage is part of the Ahaszaai family, even if she still uses their family’s “maiden” name and not the Ahaszaai name herself.
Again, it doesn’t mean anything in particular, it just sounded pretty *shrugs*
Non-Ahaszaai High Sith Names
Other characters who were named with the High Sith language, though they don’t belong to the Ahaszaai bloodline.
Aria
“Ah-ree-ah”, all long vowel sounds for her, no short “uh” ‘s here, vowel sounds in Sith are loooonggg (unless you’re D’leah because she said “fuck you Elven this is my name we’re keeping it” XD) , which means absolutely no “arrie-uh” either, please, you’ll upset her.
“But Elven “arrie-uh” is a real name and that’s how we would pronounce it!” Well, yes, except that Aria’s father actually named her for the High Sith word “Ari” (ah-ree), which means “Lord”, and not our version of the name and therefore, she uses the “Sith pronunciation” :’D
Chwûq
“Chuh-wuck” One of Aria’s Tuk’ata, named by her father Roan when he earned their trust, Chwûq’s name means “Embers” and was chosen for the glowing appearance of her eyes. All short, quite heavily stressed syllables for her name.
Taral
“tah-raah-ll” Aria’s second Tuk’ata and Chwûq’s mate. From the High Sith word meaning “He who protects”, for his loyalty to his mate, Roan and Aria.
Kahri
“Kh-haah-ree” Ni’kasi’s pet miniature sleen, named for the High Sith word meaning “Fang” (yes, she gave her lizard the lame typical “dog” name, but it sounds so much cooler in High Sith! 😂). The first syllable is heavily stressed, as if with a catch in your throat.
Naalush Zuzuul | Alu
“naah-loosh soo-zool”, as with Aria, the first syllable of his nickname is drawn out, like “ahh-loo”, not a single-syllable, “alloo” as it would be in English.
Tsâhis Zuzuul
“saah-hees soo-zool”
Pretty standard pronunciations, neither of their names mean anything, I just put together some Sith phonics and they came out pretty neato! ^^ Using the same logic from the “s” sound, I’m assuming “z” and “ts” can both function as a phonetic “ss”, the second “z” in their last name is a little more stressed and closer to an English “z” - it just sounds less weird that way ok guys? Good. ^^
Others - Elven Is Too Lazy to Separate The Rest By Species
Vano Shenly | Va
“Vah-noh shen-lee” | “Vaah” (in her full name the syllable is quite short, but for the shortened version that Aria, Merak and Vette use as her nickname, the “a” sound is a little more drawn out ;)
Merak Shenly
“murr-ack shen-lee”, pretty much how it’s spelt again. His and Vano’s are by far the easiest ones to not get “wrong” pfpfpf
Zi’verikreen | Ziri/Zee
“Zee-veh-ree”, “kreen” is pronounced pretty much as spelt. “Ziv’eri” is a Twi’leki word meaning “scorching”, for her fiery personality. I couldn’t find any solid fanon on Twi’leki phonetics/pronunciation (*cough* and I fell down the spiky tomato rabbithole and started to obsess over them instead*coughcough*) so I kind of used my best judgement here, other than Saarai, hers is one of my favourite names to say. It’s just so ✨pretty✨. Zee is pronounced as spelt, but Ziri is more drawn out, too, like “zee-ree”, though Ziri is far less “fussy” about pronunciation and will answer to “zir-ee” too, she doesn’t really care too much as long as you’re not cussing her out.
Roanan Saal | Roan
“roh-nahn” “s-aah-l” (short first and last syllable, long middle syllable) | “roh-ahn” (like “rowan”, but with a longer last syllable!)
Myala Thulie | Myla
“mee-ahr-luh thoo-lee” | “mee-luh”
mee, not my or mai for this lady! I have no elaborate explanation for this one, I just thought it sounded prettier this way
Qanarr Thimu | Qan
“Kwan-arr thim-oo” | “Kwan”
first “a” sound is somewhat stressed, as in “band” and “stand”, rest I think is self-explanatory. Again, no canon material on Catharese pronunciation so I did my own thing :3
That should cover all the mains I’m pretty sure?? If I’ve missed anyone give me a shout. How many did you have “correct” from what you thought, let me know in the tags or replies, I’m curious! :’DD

Ami’rai’stra is my lightside Sith Warrior c:
She was “adopted” by a Sith Lord who thought having a chiss “daughter” powerful in the force was an “exotic rarity” and raised her to be something she could show-off to others, loving her more as an object/possession than an actual person. Luckily once she starts the path to become a Sith Lord herself Amirai meets Vette who helps her realize she’s a person and should stand up for herself! Amirai isn’t in my “canon” as of yet, but in her story she and Vette live happily ever after as gfs :’)

Hello, sorry to bother you but could you tell how you come up with your naming process for characters? (I'm struggling to find good names for swtor; i always come up with some but they always feel off.) Thanks for your attention and may the force be with you. ps: your art and writing are great! love you! bye!
WHOAH this is one tough question.
If i may be honest most of the times its just---random and honestly a very stupid/dumb way of figuring things out-
(so this might not be lore friendly---or maybe even a bit ignorant bcus i dont know much about the extended lores D:---but i try to sound as close as the canon as possible) :”) I usually browse for some available NPCs names (a group of the same race), and try to get the same kind of pronunciation/syllables OR dissecting NPCs names to get their Prefixes and Suffixes. Let me try on my OCs.
Sith Pureblood. Honestly it’s quite random for me. The available NPCs arent as defined as Chiss ones, and im not sure i can understand their language to actually find any meaning behind their names, but for Zilnos i just went-
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ithar’s name, however, took me a while since there’s a format for that. Chiss are sum tough cookie to break. I basically went like this:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Yeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah like that, its such a messy process i knooo. i might not be the right person to be asked for this question BUT i hope it helps somehow xD

some new clowns hot off the press (and still pretty fresh so nothing is too solid)
but look at my new?? maybe permanent ocs lol
Tumblr media
So this is the most solid of the two. I don’t even really know how he came about, I think I was a little stoned and wasting time in the appearance editor in my stronghold lol. Here’s some stuff I have sorted for him so far:
name: some form of Jacinto, I’m just playing around with the spelling. Maybe Jacintho? Jacynto? Idk yet but I just LOVE that first name and its different pronunciations. short name would be like “Jac” (/jass/). I will have a surname sorted one day.
gender: transmasculine (non-binary). he’s ftm but also, non-op!! :)
pronouns: I’m leaning towards something not strictly he/him. he might end up he/they or he/they/she or even with neopronouns. but like with Andras, idk why I haven’t nailed down that detail yet.
age: 27 or something near it at 10ATC?
sexual orientation: mlm
redeemed sith apprentice? this is a recycled idea from my last sentinel oc. still sorting this and the rest of his background out.
mauve/mauve crystals that he kept from his time as a sith :) haven’t gotten the right sabers though... idk what he’ll end up with!
he may still romance Scourge like I had planned to with my previous sentinel lol.
considering undertaking the sisyphean task of dropping his alignment from Light IV to Dark I for potential brown/orange eyes lol otherwise his natural eyes are black.
this is so nitpicky but rather than those cuffs(?) I want him to have just the hoop earrings the fem model rattataki are allowed to wear. this jewelry set looks fine but visually reminds me too much of Andras’ so. I would like little snug hoops....
He’s got 3 outfits planned so far! I feel so organized lol.
Tumblr media
And this is the more loose concept. Angry with myself for making another red color-scheme character and I may change him up to negate that but whatever lol.
A whacky little space pirate with a heart of...pyrite. haha. pirate pyrite... Censored bc I’m not settled on a face yet lol ugh Togruta males looks a little...funny in BT1 but it’s ok! Anyway:
name: uh???
gender: cis man (but make is hot stupid sexy dumpster fire couture. bimbo energy.)
pronouns: he/him
age: 27 at 10ATC? late 20′s anyway. because swtor covers such a wide period of time I’m pretty bad at nailing down exact ages for all my toons. like would they still be the same person near 40? idk lol
sexual orientation: bi!
a highly successful pirate for his age, but ultimately a crack shot living on borrowed time. he’s pissed off a lot of people over the years and it’s not looking good lol. he ends up lumped in with Lev’s loosely-tied group.
I think he’d romance Risha for the space pirate royalty romance of it all but Akaavi tho.... I picture this guy being pretty smooth brain for strong ladies..
He’s like if Lev had very little morals, basically. He’s more superficial, more materialistic, and more willing to fuck people over to get his paycheck. Lev gets pretty angry with him lol.
he’s kind of an impulse design based around the masked bandit from The Fall :’)

Romance asks: 6, 10, 16, and 23 for either Shey/Torian or your trio
Apologies for the huge delay on answering this! :O
6. Who is the big spoon?
Shey is usually the big spoon between the two of them, though it will change depending on the day sometimes Torian will be the big spoon, sometimes not, sometimes they sleep face to face and both their arms fall asleep but it’s worth it because they wake up to see each other.
10. Do they have pet names for each other?
Torian’s go to are usually terms of endearment in mando’a, he usually sticks to cyare/riduur since she knows what those mean, but he’ll slip in others here and there because while she doesn’t know the meaning yet, she does still know the emotion behind it.Shey usually sticks to simple things, dearest is most common. But she’ll teasingly call him tank when he really acts tough. She’ll call him cyare now and then because she knows how much it means to him (even if she’s still learning the language and will stumble on pronunciation pretty often)
16. Jealous at all?
She rarely gets jealous, mostly because she’s confident in Torian and how they feel for each other, but every now and again she’ll get a spike of jealousy when someone in the cantina gets a little handsy with him.Torian on the other hand will have occasional bouts of jealousy when she’s around his fellow mandos, but it’s not usually anything noteworthy aside from keeping close to her so they know he’s with her. Otherwise he trusts her completely and knows that she wouldn’t do anything to hurt him nor would he ever hurt her intentionally.
23. Did you tailor your OC for the other in the romance?
Not entirely, Shey as a character shows up game to game with some variation based on the series she’s from. i.e. swtor shey is albino, has amnesia, and is a pyrotech, and is heavily dedicated to her family, while wow shey is also albino, but was ditched by her family because of her talent in fire magic, and is slow to trust and is generally pretty secretive. Similar traits but her backstory shapes her personality rather than her being created specifically for that environment. As a note she’s the only OC that I have that is like that, even if there’s others with similar names (like I have a couple named Lyra) she’s the only one who is pretty much the same game to game and ends up with the ‘tough guy’ (torian in swtor, varian in wow (even if she’s with aethas post legion due to in game story))

swtor oc challenge #3
[part 3 of the 15 day challenge]
NAME:
how did you come up with their name? what is it in game? what do people call them? what do you call them?
ANA MAITE VICARI
since I tried to base her design on latine characteristics (or as well as that works in the game’s cc), I mushed a couple of common and pretty spanish-rooted names for her. but her surname is just something I thought was suitable for a semi-prominent human sith family.
in game: ana maite [the dupe alt I’m replaying with her is ‘ana vicari’ though]
since nobody aside from a select few knows that she’s the wrath while she’s actively in that role, she doesn’t get referred to as such. instead, she prefers to go by ‘lord vicari’ to keep her public persona separate.
EDELIE CADERA
originally, I had planned to name her ‘elodie’ but most variations I tried with it were taken, so I mixed it up until I got to her current name. her surname came from a generator when I named her mother for backstory purposes — she takes torian’s clan name as her surname after they get married because of the weight that would carry, though.
in game: edelie
most people just call her by her name. blizz and rela call her ‘boss.’ gault flips between ‘edie’ and ‘partner’ depending on how much he needs to talk her into a scheme, but mako consistently calls her ‘edie.’ torian uses mando’a terms of endearment with her, but sometimes he still shortens her name to ‘ede’ when he needs to call go her.
JÖRANI RHA
admittedly, her name is recycled from the name of my original revan who never stuck, but it’s been altered in pronunciation, hence the accents. the surname is pulled from a twi’lek naming resource.
in game: jörani
she’s strictly ‘captain’ and ‘voidhound’ to others. only close friends and associates ever really call her by her name.
KAIZEN AMHI
I knew I wanted to name him ‘kai’ based on his design, but I needed to make it longer so it would be his nickname, and I ended up typing things and testing if it was available until I found something that worked. his surname is based on the ending syllable/sound of some canon mirialan characters and what I thought sounded nice with his first name.
in game: kaizen
as a young jedi, he’s mostly referred to as ‘padawan’ or just by his name. then later, he gets called ‘master amhi’ but he answers to ‘master jedi’ and ‘battlemaster’ as well. the title of alliance commander takes a while for him to be comfortable with it, but of course he gets called it by everyone else whether he likes it or not.
MITTH’ASTO’NAIRA (core name: THASTON)
since I had already established their younger sister as being from house mitth on copero, I came up with ‘thaston’ and made up a second portion of their name to match chiss naming conventions and give them a chiss name
in game: mitth’asto’naira
their name to anyone else is whatever a mission needs them to be. ‘agent’ and ‘cipher’ and ‘legate’ are most common, though.
NIH’SA DO
a star wars name generator spat out a few options similar enough that I decided ‘nih’sa’ fits the image that I have in mind for her
[not currently in game until the playable nautolans release]
close friends and family just use her name. pretty much everyone else refers to her by her rank, whatever it is at the time.
SARAJAH RIZAS
messing around with the randomize name feature in the cc gave me a couple of names that I broke apart and mushed to get her name
in game: sarajah
for the most part, she’s pretty lax about things, so she doesn’t mind people calling her by her name. she’s still referred to as ‘master sarajah’ by many, though.
ZOYAH KALLIG
the design I came up with for her matched the sort of vibe I got from a character named ‘zoya’ in a book series. of course, that was unavailable, so I added a letter and decided I liked the spelling much better for her name.
in game: zóyah [but with the sale on renames I’ve been thinking of changing it to ‘zoyah kallig’ though]
she goes by either ‘lord kallig’ or ‘darth occlus’ in non-personal circumstances. and since she’s a dark councilor, she’s also frequently called ‘dark lord’ too.
