Oh, I have an idea for a Mermay! If you would like to write it: merformers Megatron being tangled in a net or something and the waves threw him on the beach and he can't go back to water. When the (gn) reader finds him he's scared that they will use his vulnerable moment to hurt him but they go like: "Wow! You're gorgeous! Oh! And you need my help!" And they help untangle him and roll him back to the sea. What do you think?
Absolutely! Mermay may have passed but I'll still be answering these asks because I'm slow, so don't worry if you left any but I haven't answered yet! Also feel free to leave more as it turns out I really like writing merbots!
Apologies for the low writing volume as of late, the hits just keep on coming, and with my area of the country taking wildfire smoke I swear thinking has never felt more difficult...
Tumblr media
Megatron was certain he was done for.
He should have known his fate was sealed the moment the harpoon had pierced his side, especially with the weight of a powerful net dragging on his every move and tangling his limbs the more he struggled, but he'd dared to hope he had a chance after managing to swim away. It was only when exhaustion had allowed the waves to force him to shore, his colossal frame crashing against the rocks in a heap so tangled he was effectively immobilized, that he had accepted the inevitable. All the weary old mech could hope for now was to be finished off by the harpoon before he was discovered by those who'd wounded him.
Memories of a long, violent life played before his optics as the waters receded and the stars began to fade with the arrival of the day, the cries of seagulls growing louder as they woke to feed and curiously circled overhead. It wasn't the end he'd wanted, but it also didn't surprise him in the slightest. He'd never been able to find peace, as the scars across his frame could attest, so he could have predicted his spark extinguishing under such painful circumstances. Perhaps the Allspark would finally allow him to rest...
He was so exhausted he barely heard the soft patter of bare feet approaching over stone and sand.
You had been hoping to find treasures from the sea along the rocky shore when you'd woken up well before the crack of dawn, but as you approached the massive unknown thing that had washed up overnight, you couldn't have prepared for what greeted the beam from your flashlight. Silver armor tangled within the heaviest netting you'd ever seen was all you could make out at first, but more careful observations revealed a fluke the size of a large tree trunk, atop which you found a massive metal torso with its limbs bound at the front. Your heart hammered as you approached despite your better judgment, some unspeakable instinct telling you that the being before you was in a great deal of pain. You realized you were beholding a real live Thalassicon the moment your light found his face and he opened a pair of brilliant red optics, their pale iris constricting then dilating as they focused on your eyes. Fear reflected between the both of you in equal measure.
When he returned to his prone position as if to surrender without a fight, you caught a wince of pain and a pink glow along his side, which brought your eyes and the flashlight beam to a massive harpoon jutting from behind his arm. Instinctive concern welled up within you, and the haggard breaths from his vents made you certain he was enduring a great deal of agony despite his calm appearance. No amount of common sense could compel you to leave anyone to so much suffering. Coming round to his head, you aimed the flashlight to the ground so as not to strain his optics.
"Do you... need help?" you asked uncertainly, not sure how to better phrase the question.
He looked back at you, making a sound like a strained scoff of disbelief. His voice rumbled like a heavy wave rolling over a rocky shore as he rested his helm against the stone. "Would it matter if I did?"
"I... think so? Because I can probably help you out a bit." you said, getting a bit more of a hold over yourself. It seemed likely that you could help him escape the net, but you were going to need him to work with you, and even if he'd given up you weren't about to just let him die. Loving the ocean extended to everything living within, and that included Thalassicons, as alien to the planet as they may have been. Reaching for the tiny toolkit you kept in your bag, you were surprised when the production of a small knife made the mech tense in alarm.
"Why are you here? Are more of you coming?" he asked with his full attention on the little blade. It wasn't enough to do more than cause him a minor bit of harm, but as he'd already endured plenty of that, he had no interest in letting blind trust cost him an optic. You seemed surprised and confused by the question, which ironically made him trust that you weren't planning any harm. Humans had never bothered to feign kindness for him anyway.
"There might be more people coming once the sun actually comes up, but I tend to be the only one up this early." you explained, trying to answer the question as best you could. The answer made him tilt his helm and raise a brow, compelling you to elaborate further. "Now's the best time to collect shells. The tide is going out, but no one else is up yet. Anyway, I just got this knife, let me see if it's sharp enough to cut you free."
"You're very trusting. Are you not afraid of my kind?" he asked before you could begin, giving you a bit of pause. The whole situation was odd, but you were quite perplexed as to why this very obviously struggling bot would try so hard to convince you not to help him. It only made you all the more determined to help, but it seemed you would need to convince him not only of your intentions, but to work with you to save himself.
"I've never actually met a Thalassicon before, but you all don't seem to start fights with humans most of the time." you said as you put the flashlight down and aimed it over where you'd be working. Dropping to your knees but keeping a final foot of space between you both, you held up your tiny knife and gestured to his tangled limbs, certain you could work at least one free with enough cutting. "If I help you get your arms free, can you pull yourself out of this net?"
Still burnt out on hope, Megatron didn't dare to believe he was really getting out of this situation, but decided he had nothing better to do than play along. Even if you were some kind of government agent playing a long game, it was more interesting to see what your plan was than to wait to bleed to death. Flexing his arms to test the net's resistance, he found them folded against his front but otherwise unharmed, and while he was incapable of reaching the harpoon he had no doubt he could untangle himself if even one limb was freed. "Possibly." he conceded, remaining limp so that you could work.
"Worth a try, then." you said with a bit of inflated confidence, still unable to believe what you had gotten yourself into. Biting your lip and committing to your desire to help, you grabbed a random section of net and began to cut. Straight away you found progress to be definite but slow, the sharp blade taking its sweet time to carve through the reinforced material even as you pushed the sharpened edge down with all of your strength. "Ugh, this might take a second, these are some seriously thick ropes."
"Take all the time you need, I'm certainly not going anywhere." he replied with a sarcastic flop of his fluke against the stones, emphasizing his lack of options. You'd have possibly found it funny were you not carving through the stubborn netting with all of your strength, jaw set tight and brows furrowed in deep concentration as you looked for possible shortcuts. It wasn't like you had all the time in the world to cut him loose. The sun would soon be peeking over the horizon, and when it did you had no doubt that other humans would be coming to the beach, some of whom you couldn't trust not to sound the alarm. Many members of your species looked on his with open fear and boundless hostility.
"Hold on, if I'm able to tear this one... ouch!" you hissed as the knife nicked your palm, compelling on you to suck at the little cut before getting back to work. Your lack of hesitation to push on surprised him even more than your initial offer of aid, and for the first time he dared to believe you might be genuine in your desire to help. He could already feel his arm gaining wiggle room with every sliced rope, the heavy weight around his limbs needing only a little bit more of a reduction before he was confident his strength would prove sufficient to break free. Sweat had begun to bead on your forehead when you gave a growl of frustration and sliced through two more holes to free his arm. "Just one second, I've almost got it... there! Can you help me work your arm out?"
"Yes, one moment." he said, barely hiding the anticipation he couldn't suppress. Still mostly immobilized, he tried to work his arm free with a shift of his shoulders, only to receive a lightning bolt of pain as the harpoon was jostled by the movement. Roaring in agony, he went limp save for a full body shudder of pain, fresh energon flowing down his side.
You jumped to help but pulled back when he hissed in instinctive fear, vents coming in hard and fast before the initial burst of pain began to fade and he calmed down. Looking around for potential witnesses with growing concern for the lack of time, you finally settled on the only thing you had resembling a plan, ignoring every bit of common sense you had saying it was a bad idea. "Would it help if that thing came out first?"
"It... it might. But I cannot reach it." he said weakly, once more feeling the urge to lie limp and allow fate to claim him. You'd proven an interesting diversion from his demise, but it was physically impossible for him to free himself. Between the restraint and the agony he felt when trying to move, there was nothing his great strength could do for him, and the steady flow of energon from his wound was taking even that away. Self repair couldn't initiate with the offending projectile still lodged under his armor.
"How deep is it? If it doesn't need too much of a pull, I can probably take it out." you offered, self preservation briefly taking a backseat to concern. It wasn't fair for anyone to suffer like this, and despite the danger you felt compelled to do whatever a squishy human body could to help. The Thalassicon stiffened at the suggestion, compelling you to drop to your knees and talk face to face to convince him you meant no harm. This wasn't something you could attempt without his full cooperation. "Do you trust me to do that?"
Megatron was silent as he eyed you up and down, looking for signs of the betrayal he'd been certain was coming but finding only earnest desperation in your face. It would be foolish to take you up on your offer considering his history with your kind, but with the harpoon scraping his insides during every ventilation, he was compelled once more to accept out of a lack of alternate options. All you could really do was help him, or end him that much quicker.
"I cannot leave while it's there, I suppose I have little choice." he muttered bitterly, distrust coloring every word to make it apparent this wasn't a choice he enjoyed. It wasn't an enthusiastic assent, but you took it regardless, stepping back to try and figure out how to best approach the problem when the mech spoke up with far more force. A piercing look from his bright red optics made you flinch with each harsh syllable. "Just be quick about it, and know I will take you with me if you get any ideas."
"Okay. Fair enough. I'll climb on up, just hang tight." you conceded quickly, hands up in a brief gesture of surrender to show you understood. One thrash of his massive tail could easily turn you to paste, so you were equally serious in your promise not to try anything unexpected. Fully aware of his optics watching your every move, you climbed up his shoulder by using the net as a makeshift climbing aid and his armor as handholds, following the trail of bleeding energon until you arrived at his back.
When you stood up to face the harpoon for inspection, you were shocked to find it jutting out as far as you were tall, the heavy metal gleaming even in the darkness as if it was smelted from something unnatural. Ignoring the chill the weapon created in your gut, you angled your phone light to try and get a better idea of how to proceed. The sight of the ragged wound torn into his armor made you flinch in sympathy, and even without medical experience you could tell it had been yanked about as the mech had struggled against his attempted captors. The painful site left you stumped until you realized the roughness of the wound would actually work in your favor. Struggling hadn't just moved the harpoon, it had pulled it most of the way out, far enough that you were confident in your ability to pull it the rest of the way.
"I'll try to remove it as fast as I can, I'm sorry if this hurts." you said as you grabbed the frigid piece of metal, hoping you sounded confident just for his sake. All of him stiffened beneath you, but he made no further movements, remaining silent as you secured your grip and set your feet.
"Okay. Here I go!" you announced as you sucked in a breath, clenching your shoulders before you pulled with all of your might. At first you felt nothing but his tremble of pain, which compelled you to square your jaw and lean backwards so your weight could assist, every ounce of your willpower pouring itself into the task at hand. After a few unproductive moments the harpoon slid an inch upwards, compelling you to double down until your knuckles paled and veins throbbed along your skin. The Thalassicon hissed when you felt something under the surface give way, and the weapon popped free of the wound in a single motion that sent you toppling backwards just as the mech arched his frame and roared in pain.
Soft sand met your back as you were thrown clear, the harpoon clattering over the stones as you sat up in a daze to find the mech tearing from the net and standing upright on his tail as he shredded the restraints with a growl and tossed the remains aside. The sudden show of motion was reassuring, but the sight of fresh energon running down his side made you fear you'd only made the situation much worse. "It's bleeding, did I make it worse?!"
Your words seemed to surprise him, almost as if he'd forgotten you were there in the rush, but he turned and gingerly probed the wound with much more freedom of movement than he'd had before. "No... It will clear itself and then my self repair will begin..." he explained, relaxing his mighty shoulders as the fact he'd be okay settled over you both. Now able to see the full extent of his size and strength, you felt even smaller as he dropped back down onto his front to speak to you, expression softening in relief and gratitude as he met your gaze. "Thank you. I would not have survived if that remained in my hide."
"Don't mention it." you replied breathlessly, surprising him once more as you made no attempt to request a reward for your services. Rather, you looked at him with concern, your eyes lingering on his injuries as you picked yourself up off the sand. "Are you... good to go? The beach will probably start to see its first visitors before long."
"I can see myself off. For your own sake, it is best you pretend we didn't meet." he answered quickly, pushing himself along the rocks until he came to the edge. For all of his desire to know more about the most peculiar human he'd ever met, it was better for both of you if he cleared out quickly. There was no telling what his attempted captors would do to those who aided him, and you didn't seem like the type to leave well enough alone even if your life was on the line. Knowing that didn't stop him from hesitating as he planned the best way to drop into the dark water below.
"Oh... okay." you said, unable to keep the disappointment from your voice. You'd come to the beach with the intention of finding some beautiful sea life, and while you'd succeeded, it was still hard to accept this one wouldn't be coming home with you. Unwilling to let him go straight away, you stalled with another glance at his injuries, hoping that even if you didn't see him again you would know he was safe out there. "Are you sure you're okay? That looks really bad."
"I have endured far worse, it will heal." he promised, already planning to seek out the deep sea supplies he knew would help him heal. Compared to what he'd suffered before at the hands of humans and bots alike, this was nothing now that he had the freedom to move and swim. The news made you smile, and his spark was so softened by your continued compassion he couldn't bear to leave without some show of gratitude. "Before I leave, allow me to introduce myself. You can call me Megatron."
"Nice to meet you, I'm Y/N." you replied eagerly, wishing the first tendrils of the sunrise shining over the ocean would give you just a few more minutes. Unable to think of all you wanted to say, you ignored the hurt in your heart to bid him farewell, putting your wishes into words so they might come true. "I hope I can see you again sometime, under better circumstances."
"Perhaps, if fate allows. It would not be in your best interest, however." he replied much more sagely, swinging his tail over the edge but holding on with his upper arms. In the moments before he descended further, the position allowed the two of you to come face to face once more, and it was his turn to smile fondly as you bid him farewell.
"I don't really mind. Safe travels, Megatron."

Is it alright to have Yandere Jun with mermaid reader who wants to see humans and then leave.🙂😳?
I didn’t forget, it was just difficult for me to picture this. So happy mermay y’all! @scr3amingqueen I finally made a story for your fan art 💕🧜‍♀️🧜
Yandere Baki Head Canons
Yandere Jun Guevaru x Female Mermaid Reader
Tumblr media
Jun Guevaru
When Jim finally escaped prison, he returned to the sea. His heart filled with adventure lust
Jun decided to explore uncharted waters and low and behold, he catches a glimpse of a colorful tail of a fish he’s never seen before. A very big fish
He encourages his men to set out nets to try to catch that colorful fish. Maybe it was a new species? Either way, it may sell for a pretty penny
But this fish was incredibly smart. It evaded all of the traps and sometimes, Jun swore he’d seen the upper half of a woman. He brushed it off as him getting a little crazy from being on the water for too long
Then the day comes that he’s finally able to capture that fish and… it wasn’t a fish at all but a mermaid. You were a mermaid that was just curious of the strange creatures on the large vessel, you never meant them any harm
Mermaids were stories of sailors who have been gone for too long on the sea, Jun had no idea that they’d be true. That this beautiful creature that laid out on his ship deck in front of him was real. Yet here you were sobbing in front of the sailors, unaware of the pearls that fell from your eyes instead of tears. A jack pot
Jun has his men put you in a tank of salt water below the ship deck and he makes sure that they make you cry a lot by scaring you. The crew members slap their hands against your tank and make loud noises to get more pearls to fall from your eyes. You’re miserable
A week goes by and you become so incredibly homesick. You miss your family and friends. If only you hadn’t been so curious… then maybe you wouldn’t be so hungry and sad… maybe a song would make you feel better?
It’s late at night and all of the sailors are sleeping except Jun. He’s in his captain quarters trying to figure out where to sell you and that’s when he hears it. The most enchanting melody he’s ever heard
Jun rushes to your tank, his eyes widening at how gaunt your cheeks look compared to when he first found you. Had his crew members not been feeding you like they were supposed to? He’s sad you stop your song and swim to the far corner to your tank. You’re afraid of him… and Jun’s heart twists. He doesn’t know why it hurts him to see the fear in your eyes but it does…
Jun punishes the crew members for their mistreatment of you and takes it upon himself to care for you. It’s the first kindness you get from your captors. You’re extremely hesitant of Jun but you begin to warm up to him over the course of the next few weeks
And you finally speak with him. He’s shocked to learn that you can speak and even more shocked that you understand him. You two begin to converse for hours and he finds you extremely charming. Jun is also thrilled to finally know your name (and you his)
You share with him about how mermaids can gain legs if they drink human blood but you joke with Jun that it’s just a folk tale amongst the other mer. Jun begins to think about it. He really enjoys your company… Jun realizes he’s in love with you. Madly, utterly in love
One of Jun’s crew members tries to touch you while you’re in your tank. You scream loudly in fear. Your scream alerting Jun, the pirate captain running to your defense and quickly giving the member a quick death. He didn’t hesitate to slit their throat. Their blood splashing all over your face and some even got into your mouth…
Imagine Jun’s surprise to see that you now had the lower half of a human woman? Legs and all? He quickly dresses you in his shirt and carries you to his quarters before anyone can see you. Jun lays you on his soft bed with a bright smile
You’re confused on why Jun keeps pressing his mouth to your body as you lay there. Why he’s telling you how much he loves you and how he’s so happy that you can now receive his love. It’s a strange change in the man you’ve come to call your friend to now call your lover
Jun saves that crew member’s blood for you so you can keep your legs. Jun wants you to live with him as a human forever. Jun tells you his wishes of you becoming his wife and even the mother to his children
There’s no hope for escape and Jun convinced his crew to make sure you never escape. That you are to be referred to as Missus Guevara

The Owl House Mermay Marathon: Aladarius (4/6)
I bet you weren't expecting this ship from me. So, Surprise! I'm a filthy aladarius shipper lmao. I think their relationship is super interesting (They're DEFINITELY exes possibly with lingering feelings for each other).
This is definitely the most controversial ship I'm doing for the mermay marathon (fully expecting some not so nice comments on insta.) It's kinda a stretch to even call this one of the main TOH ships, but it's definitely pretty popular from what I've seen. Also I like it so I'm adding it to the marathon anyway. (This is actually the first ship I've drawn for this marathon that I actually care about haha).
On to the drawing itself, I wanted to draw Darius pushing Alador away in a playful manner. Kinda like he's playing hard to get. However, I kinda ran into issues with what to do with Alador and Darius' arms that weren't interacting with each other. Darius' especially. I wanted to fill in the negative space in the upper right corner, so I put his arm there. However, I had no idea what pose to put his hand in. I originally made his hand a fist, but my girlfriend told me it made it look like Darius was about to punch Alador, so I changed it to what is in the final product.
Also, since Darius is buff, it wouldn't have made any sense if I didn't draw him with abs. But the problem was I have literally never drawn abs in the literal decade I've been drawing as a hobby. So that sure was a massive fucking pain, but I think I did a decent job for a first time. (Taking drawing II in college definitely helped me out here)
Final thing I wanted to mention is I made Darius' tail an abomination tail. It only made sense for his character lmao.

PLEASE TELL ME ABOUT MERMAID BODE 🖤🖤🖤
Yes! A second ask! Of course I’ll tell you about mermaid Bode 🩵 (I actually got curious about this one when I found it in my wips and went back to check it out so lucky you, this one’s fresh in my memory)
So this wip came from me wanting to participate in MerMay someday and deciding I needed an idea. Lo and behold, my brain promptly complied and came up with this. Sadly there’s no snippets to share (yet. Perhaps we’ll make this may my first MerMay) but I have some concepts/ideas.
First thing’s first:
Who’s who?
Well, Bode is a mermaid/merman. The sort that can shift into a human. And here comes the fun part: my half-asleep brain decided all good mer shifters need to be mute (Ariel style) so Bode’s got to be mute. Why is he mute? Because there’s a superstition about mermen being sirens and someone made sure to damage his vocal cords to take his voice. He’s got a nasty scar on his throat from it too. Additionally, this au was created around the time I was taking a sign language course at uni, so I feel I have at least the beginnings of an idea of how it works and what to watch out for when writing a mute character. I will have to do more research but at least I have a head start, right?
Now, of course this is SpyScrapper (I say, despite the fact that SpyScrapper always seems to come second to everything I write having to be about Bode first and foremost), so Cal’s here too. I’m not sure what his exact relationship to Jaro was in this verse but in any case, Jaro ended up dead because of mer-people and Cal got his famous cheek scar from that encounter. He’s then taken in and raised by Prauf because we love him. Cal’s obviously got big trauma about mer-people and the ocean in general.
All the other characters may feature as I need them, but they don’t have a concrete role to play as of rn.
The Plot
You can guess where this is going but I’ll spell it out anyway. Cal and Bode meet at a bar. Cal catches sight of the big cutie and goes to introduce himself. Bode is pleasantly surprised by Cal’s ease around the fact that he’s mute. They communicate by writing/drawing out letters in Cal’s palm before they get a pen, the scraps of sign language Cal picked up (spontaneous idea: could this be where he picks up the nickname?), and a lot of lovingly gazing at each other of course.
Something something, they go on a few dates, something something, they start falling in love (not yet sure what to do about this part). Cal being scared of the ocean comes up. Bode starts helping him work through it. Side note: Bode does have scales as a human, but they’re so light, they can be mistaken for strange scars. Thus, Cal doesn’t know he’s been falling in love with a mer. Big angst when he finds out. I’m thinking something with a big storm, choppy waves, potential almost drowning or something. Whatever it ends up as, I’m sure it’ll be fun, heh
That’s about as far as I’ve gotten. But man, now I really want to actually write this.
Hope that satiates your curiosity 🩵 I really wish I had a snippet to share, but rest assured, when I do, you’ll be the first to know about it

mermay idea because I have no self control to wait
Janitor Cross x Mer Koi Dream
Cross was disappointed but not surprised to find out that the only reason he’d been hired at the aquariam in the first place was because he happened to look like the upper half of the mer that the scientists were all abuzz about. But Cross hadn’t known about that at the time, and had been grateful for employment at all after the…incident at his previous workplace.
Today?
Today, Cross had been instructed to go clean up some underground space full of lab equipment along the walls. And in the center of the room was a giant circular pool about four feet high and ten feet in diameter, reinforced with steel and thick glass-viewing panels along the side. Small, for what was being bragged about. That a new specimen, and soon to be new resident for the aquariam above, had been captured. Investors and all were certain this creature’s presence would draw in new guests it was a rare, previously unknown species found to exist; no longer a myth.
Unsurpsingly (to Cross, at least) the mer was not interested in being cooperative from its initial interactions with the aquariam keepers and scientists. And apparently, this currently holding (cell) tank was just temporary, until the mer calmed down and could be tamed. The mer was to be treated like any other wild animal, since there had been no understandable vocalizations but for chirps, clicks, whistles and hisses.
Checking the time, Cross’ shoulders slumped. He was off the clock soon, and it had been made perfectly clear that overtime was not allowed until things with the mer had moved further along. Glancing at the circular tank, Cross got to work, cleaning up the water that was splattered all around the tank, just barely missing the electronics against the different walls of the room. Normally this wouldn’t have been an issue but Cross was currently cleaning in the pitch dark, his way only led by what his eye lights could see. But this also allowed him to see the soft golden-orange glow that approached one side of the tank, the glass lighting up as the kelp and other vegitation shifted while the mer swam. Cross kept his head down, rhythmically mopping up the water and moving along; he’d been instructed to not interact with the mer, nor remop should the mer decide to splash the floors while Cross was there.
The clean-up didn’t take long, with the last part closest to the tank itself. Throughout the mopping, there were only hints of the mer’s presence; the water rippling from fins cutting through, the clink of bones softly against the glass, as if the mer was following Cross’ progress as the glow followed along. Just as Cross was getting ready to leave, he let out a surprised gasp as a splash rang out of the blue, and he was drenched skull to boots in lukewarm, almost cold water. Spluttering, Cross turned his head in time to see what appeared to be two golden eye lights peering at him through the glass, and what sounded like a muffled laugh. The eye lights vanished, and another cascade of water further drenched Cross. He slipped backward and hit the equally wet floor with a clatter of bones, likely bruising something in the process.
Soft laughter rang out like a melody of a chime in the breeze.
Cross’ eye lights vanished then returned in a fierce blaze, before Cross’ mind caught up with him: he was okay.
It was fine.
Shit happened.
The mer was allowed to be unhappy about the small tank and splash around.
Cross didn’t expect the softer laughter to have cut off, replaced with a silence so quiet Cross could hear his own breathing. When he looked at the tank, the glow was dim and on the other side from him, absolutely no motion within the water whatsoever.
Weird.
With a sigh and a grimace over his sopping wet clothes, Cross heeded the instructions he’d been given, and left the underground lab/tank (cell) with his cleaning equipment and mop. Had he looked back, he would have seen golden eye lights watch his departure with a mix of confusion and consternation.

Mermaid Splash Bonus Chapter
Lucifer and the Old Wizard
Summary: Obey Me! Fairy tale au. A retelling of Hans Christian Andersen's The Little Mermaid.
Pairing: Asmodeus x GN MC
Warnings: Death mentioned, mild blood in other chapters.
***
Author's note: This isn't exactly a deleted scene since Mermaid Splash exclusively follows Asmo, but it was a concept I thought would be interesting to explore while I was writing the story. Lucifer giving up his life in exchange for his brother's is so him. He already has such a great dynamic with Solomon but they're usually evenly matched or Lucifer has the upper hand, being a powerful demon; I've tipped the scales in favor of Solomon this time to see what would happen. This been sitting in my drafts for a while now, and what better time to release it than Mermay? In the continuity of Mermaid Splash this scene would have taken place during chapter 5, about a day before the engagement ball at your castle.
As for what Solomon did to get banished from the kingdom... I have no idea. You're welcome to make your own theories in the comments or tags ;)
***
Lucifer knew exactly where the Old Wizard Solomon’s cave was. When the others went to bed, exhausted from weeks of sleepless nights searching all over the kingdom for Asmodeus, Lucifer swam to the gates and snuck past the guards. He would ask for forgiveness from Crown Prince Diavolo later, if he was caught.
“Prince Lucifer, what a pleasant surprise.” said the Old Wizard as Lucifer surfaced in his cave.
“Where is my brother?” he demanded.
“Oh come now, that's hardly a greeting. And besides, you have so very many brothers, which one are you referring to?”
“Asmodeus. Where is Asmodeus?” Lucifer gritted his teeth. “The last time I spoke to him, we were talking about you–”
“Oh, I come up in your family discussions, I am too flattered.” The Wizard came to where the edge of the stone floor met the water, bending down to be closer to Lucifer’s level although he still spoke down to him. “Asmodeus is on land, making use of the legs I gave him, likely courting that human of his.”
“What?” Lucifer blanched.
Leaving the kingdom's walls was already grounds for punishment, at least it had been during the Sea King’s rule. Forsaking the sea altogether... That was unprecedented. It could mean exile or worse. If only Lucifer or any of his brothers had noticed Asmo drifting away sooner.
“Yes he was quite insistent that he wanted to become human. So much that he was willing to give up his beautiful voice.” The Wizard sat down with his legs crossed. “Now isn’t that dedication?”
“What were the terms?”
“Hmm?” the Wizard feigned ignorance with a small smile and speaking infuriatingly slow. “Oh, the terms? They were simple, really. He has thirty days to win the heart of his human and he can keep his legs and become one himself.”
Every deal with the Old Wizard came with a catch. Asmo was foolish to make a pact with him. “And if he fails?”
The Wizard leaned back on his hands. “If, at the end of the thirty days he is unable to obtain the human’s heart, he will dissolve into seafoam and die.” He’d said it so casually, as if discussing the tides.
“No!” Lucifer gripped the edge of the stone for stability. “Without his voice it will be impossible. How can he–”
“Well it's a good thing the object of his affection seems to be the one human who can’t fall for his voice.” said the Old Wizard.
So Asmo hadn't been speaking in hypotheticals then, he really had found someone immune to the song of merpeople.
“Do you think so little of your brother? A pretty thing like him should have no trouble seducing a human.”
“He is young!” Lucifer’s ruby red eyes glowed in anger in the dim light of the candles, seawater sloshing over the stone floor. “He is impulsive. He couldn't have known what he was getting into!”
Wizard Solomon was unbothered by Lucifer’s outburst. “Young he may be but he is grown for a merperson and for a human, which is what he is now, and may remain if he accomplishes his task. I wouldn't have made the pact with him had I not believed he was equal to it. I am not evil as most merpeople would lead you to believe.” he sniffed.
“Then why have you been banished from the kingdom?” The incident had happened before Lucifer’s time and it was seldom spoken of, so even he didn’t know the details.
“That is a personal matter.”
Cryptic as Lucifer had expected, he wouldn't get an answer. But that didn’t matter now. Lucifer needed his brother back.
He looked up at the Wizard, “Can the spell be reversed? Can he come back to the sea?”
The Old Wizard thought for a long moment, so long that a few candles sputtered out in the dampness of the room. Lucifer stared at him, tense, but patiently. It would do him no good to anger the Wizard.
“It is possible. I can make our pact void, yes.” He said, “But as you know, that will cost you. And I will need something greater than Asmodeus was able to give.”
“Please,” said Lucifer, bowing his head and lowering his eyes, both hands pressed against the floor. “I’ll do anything. Whatever you ask, whatever you require.”
Lucifer was a prideful merman, he was known for it throughout the kingdom, but this was his little brother’s life on the line. He would find a way to change the tides and wake the sleeping King of the Sea if he needed to.
The Old Wizard Solomon grinned, enjoying Prince Lucifer’s display of humility.
“I require only a single thing,” He lifted Lucifer’s chin with one finger, making him gaze up into his eyes. “Your life in exchange for his.”
Lucifer reeled back. “What do you–”
“Servitude, my dear prince,” the Wizard stood and made his way back into the room by the many shelves that lined the walls. “You will work for me, bound until the end of my days, or yours, whichever comes first. Agree to this pact and I will give you this.” He produced a long knife from one of the shelves.
Lucifer leaned over the stone floor, almost coming out of the water to get a better look. “And what use would I have for that?”
“This knife is the key to severing Asmodeus’ spell,” said the Wizard. He sat back down at the edge of the floor. “His voice will not return, but if he kills the human he loves and lets their blood spill upon his legs, his tail will grow back and he can return to the sea. All of this must be done before the sun rises on the thirty-first day, which is soon, three days’ time.”
Lucifer reached for the knife but stopped himself before he touched it. “Asmo would never do that, it’s not in his heart.”
Asmo was someone so full of love and compassion. Even if the human didn't love him back, even if it would lead to his own death, Lucifer couldn't see Asmo being able to kill, not if he’d already become attached. He knew his brother.
“Perhaps not,” Wizard Solomon smirked. “But it is the only way he can become a merman again. I think it’s worth a try to ask him, don’t you?”
Lucifer hesitated.
“What is worse, Prince Lucifer? Your younger brother’s death, of which you are so sure. Or a lifetime of servitude to me?”
Lucifer eyed the knife in the Wizard’s hand. If this was truly all it would take…
“I will do it,” he said finally.
“Excellent,” said Wizard Solomon. He set the knife aside. “And now we must make our pact.” He took Lucifer’s right hand in his. “You are in agreement, yes?”
“I am,” said Lucifer, firmly.
“Good.”
With a squeeze of his hand, the Old Wizard recited a complicated incantation. Sparks and symbols flashed in front of Lucifer’s eyes, all coming from his and the Wizard’s clasped hands. Warmth grew from his palm, snaking up his arm and wrapping itself around his heart.
“What is-” he managed to say, but the Wizard ignored him as he continued the spell.
Lucifer’s muscles were becoming weak as the spell progressed, he felt like he was being paralyzed limb by limb, and he worried he would sink under the water. He clawed at the floor, trying to gain purchase. For some reason he knew it was vital that his and the Wizard’s hands stayed connected until he completed the spell.
The Wizard grabbed Lucifer’s other hand, preventing him from slipping under. More and more of his breath was stolen with each word. He thought he would suffocate.
As the Wizard’s words slowed, the sparks began to dissipate. The spell was done.
He let go.
Lucifer sagged against the stone, clinging to a divot in the floor. His breaths came shaky and rapid. After a moment, he was able to move his tail again.
A sigil was etched into his palm.
“Our pact mark,” said the Wizard. He tossed the knife in front of Lucifer. “Now go. Give the knife to your brothers, they can retrieve Asmodeus. But do come back quickly, we have much work to do, my prince.”
The sigil glowed with sapphire blue light at the command.
When Lucifer was able to catch his breath, he grabbed the knife and swam for the kingdom.
***
“Lucifer!” Mammon cried as his older brother reentered their undersea home. “I thought you were gone as well.”
Lucifer pulled Mammon into a tight hug.
“I know where Asmodeus is,” he said.
“That’s great news!” Mammon slipped out of Lucifer’s arms to wake the others but Lucifer pulled him back.
His heart pounded. Mammon’s face was so hopeful. But he needed to tell him, Asmo could only return to the sea if his brothers could convince him to.
“Asmodeus is on land. He traded his voice to the Old Wizard of the Sea for a pair of legs.” said Lucifer.
Mammon was speechless. As a prince of the sea, he knew the laws of the kingdom well. Asmo had betrayed the Crown Prince and the kingdom.
“His pact with the Wizard is almost up. If he can’t obtain the heart of the human he loves in three days’ time, he will dissolve into seafoam.”
“But that means he’ll die,” Mammon clutched at his heart. “Lucifer, what can we do?”
The others were beginning to wake up, roused by the voices in the hallway.
Lucifer had wanted to avoid this and leave without them knowing, but he would miss his younger brothers. They all filed in, still half asleep.
He spoke directly to Mammon. “Go to the crown prince and plead our case. I’m sure he’ll listen when you tell him where I…” Lucifer trailed off. “Just ask him to let Asmo back into the kingdom.”
“But if he’s on land with human legs–”
His brothers murmured in confusion behind him.
“Find him on land and give him this.” said Lucifer. “If he can kill the human he loves and spill their blood on his legs, according to the Old Wizard, his tail will be restored. His voice is lost but that is a small price to pay for him to return.”
Lucifer handed the knife to Satan, knowing it would be safe with him until it needed to be used. He turned to leave.
“Lucifer, how do you know that?” Mammon asked cautiously.
The pact mark on his palm burned as if he held a hot coal in his hand. He looked at each of his brothers before turning away. It was too painful.
“The Old Wizard is waiting for me.” He clenched his hand into a fist.
“What?”
“I must go,” said Lucifer, choking back tears. “Please. Save him.”

Idea Prompt
I know i’m pretty late to the punch and the month is almost over, but I want to do something for Mermay while I still have the chance.
I haven’t thought of the full details, but the basic premise is that Naofumi is a Marine biologist working in a marine research center.
One day, when Naofumi arrives to work, he finds the place in an absolute frenzy.
One of the research teams that had just come back from a month-long sea expedition made a huge discovery. They apparently had discovered a real life mermaid and brought it back with them to study it.
Of course, Naofumi didn’t believe it at first. Mermaids weren’t real! They’re just fairytales, legends, myths! A made up creature to entertain people.
At least, that’s what Naofumi thought until he came face to face with the half-human, half-fish creature swimming around in an enormous tank.
Naofumi damn near passed out on sight.
The mermaid in question had long light-blue hair somehow tied in a thick braid, matching light-blue eyes and white ivory skin. She had fins where the ears would usually be and webbed hands with sharp claws at the end of each finger tip.
of course, the most noticeable feature was her long fish tail. It was dark blue in color with scales that shined like precious sapphires.
However, the research team has been unable to gather any sort of meaningful data on the mermaid due to the subject's increasingly hostile nature.
The mermaid would hiss and claw at anyone that got too close.
Which Naofumi would argue is to be expected since the supposed ‘experts’ thought it would be a good idea to take an animal they know little to nothing about from it’s original habitat to a completely different and unfamiliar one.
It really shouldn’t be a surprise that the mermaid would be less than cooperative.
However, for some strange reason, the mermaid acts docile around Naofumi.
This was noticed by one of Naofumi’s coworkers. The coworker noticed that whenever Naofumi walked past the tank, the mermaid would stare at the human male with a curious look. Sometimes she’d even swim up to the glass to get a closer look.
Thus Naofumi is given the task of taking care of the mermaid and gathering data and the creature.
While looking after the sea creature, Naofumi learned the mermaid could actually understand human speech, but she couldn’t speak it.
So, Naofumi ended up helping the mermaid learn to speak it. It’s through this teaching that Naofumi learns the mermaid’s name is Therese.
Naofumi attempted to teach Therese his name, but she only managed to say the first part of his name and ended up calling him, “Nao”. It was cute though.
One day, while Naofumi is closing up for the night after everyone else has left, he decides to say goodnight to Therese. The biologist had grown quite fond of the mermaid over the past few months.
However, upon reaching Therese’s tank, Naofumi finds an unknown man standing in front of the tank.
The man had red hair and was wearing a loose shirt and a pair of pants.
When Naofumi calls out to him, the man turns to face the biologist revealing his handsome face with deep crimson eyes.
Naofumi demands to know who the man is and how he got in the facility without any sort of clearance.
The man simply ignores Naofumi’s questions and smiles, before introducing himself as L’arc.
L’arc thanks Naofumi for taking great care of his mate, but he’d like to take her back home now.
-----------
That all I got for now, but that’s pretty much the gist of it.
I haven’t thought of what kind of mermaid Therese is, but I was thinking of making L’arc a cecaelia (a mermaid/merman with the lower body of a octopus or squid). I can’t tell you why, I just like the idea.

2023 AO3 Year-End Fic Review
thank you for tagging me @praetorqueenreyna 💚🤗
What is your AO3 account?
foxcort @ ao3, but im also gonna link my account on squideworld (which has nothing rn but im going to start posting there instead and its got about the same vibe as ao3)
2. How many words did you write total in 2023?
i wrote 10773 words and it was all for acotar!
3. How many fics did you publish in 2023? How many multichapters vs oneshots?
i wrote 6 fics for the entire year (which is surprisingly more than i originally thought!), 5 of which were oneshots and 1 of which was a collection of drabbles. im hoping to start writing at least 1 multichapter in 2024
4. What was your longest fic? Your shortest fic?
my longest was a heart of scales and storms at 2785 words, which was a feylin mermay oneshot and my shortest was spring memories at 714 words, which was the first fic i contributed to this fandom (and one that has a very special place in my heart)
5. What was your most popular fic? Your least popular fic?
comforter was my most popular fic at 447 hits and my least popular was a court of ice and fire at 43 hits, which is completely understandable considering its an oddly specific au and the only chapter i have posted is tamlin-centric, but i still love the idea and hope my muse can come around to contributing more to it this year!
6. What fic didn't perform as well as you thought it would?
hmm maybe a heart of scales and storms? the statistics show that it only got 53 hits, but i still remember the comments i got for that fic and @haniaaaaaaaaaaa drew ✨this✨ beautiful art piece inspired by it! so from the reception the fic garnered it feels like it should have more than 53 hits but honestly i had so much fun writing it and i remember smiling so wide my face hurt for days after bc of the comments/artwork that it didn’t feel like it didn’t perform well (as far as hits go)!
7. What fic performed way better than you thought it would?
oh wildfire at 192 hits (this is a lot for me lol), which was an erisweek entry and the first time i ever attempted writing from his pov. honestly i don’t expect any of my character-centric stuff to take off, so i was pleasantly surprised at how it performed!
8. What was your favorite fic you wrote in 2023?
most probably comforter, more specifically the neslin chapter. i’ve had this super angsty, acosf divergence multichaptered neslin idea in my head for a while now, but i suck at long term fic planning and like most people i want to jump right into writing the interesting parts of it, so the neslin chapter was a scene from that idea and i felt so happy writing it and getting into the mindsets of nesta and tamlin in that au.
9. What was your favorite fic that somebody else wrote in 2023?
definitely rosemary by @bittermuire (thank god for this survey because in my effort to link the fic i realized ITS BEEN UPDATED!!! and as i read through it, i became even more convinced this was 100% my most favorite fic of 2023 💚) honestly, anything muire writes has me immediately hooked, but its the characterizations of the archeron sisters in particular that are so special to me. especially in rosemary. it also happens to be an october/fall fic, which are bonuses and pluses as far as im concerned. if you love the archeron sisters, give rosemary a read. if you need more convincing, allow me to provide one of my favorite quotes from the fic—
Lucien Vanserra watched her leave, his heart threatening to give out, and cursed himself a thousand times. Then another thousand times. Then, drowning in table salt, dreaming of her hair, thinking of getting himself a few sessions of therapy, he decided he would not, could not possibly, let her go. / rosemary (ch.1) by iriy @ ao3
honorable mention to plus 4 by firenaition @ ao3, because this is a fic i read at least once every month, a fic that i've shown and begged my rl siblings to read and quite possibly my favorite azulaang/atla fic of all time
10. Tag your friends to have them do this year-end fic review as well!!
if you haven’t done it already and you want to, do it! and tag me too, i love reading these!

You know, I suddenly (probably due to all gorgeous mermay art circling around) remembered the pirate!Melban (with merman!Meliodas) AU I briefly wanted to write.
I don't think I've mentioned that one before?
Oh, man. I should probably add that to the pile of potential ficwip 5k 2023 AUs. Because I had ideas for this one, and I'm kinda getting invested again. It was going to be Melban and the Seven Deadly Sins heavy, with lots of found family, some action, plenty of Mel whump (duh, it's my story), and of course my favorite: King faces a "surprise! you're captain's not human" reveal.
(I think I've got 6 potential AUs for the ficwip 5k now?? Maybe I should make a poll at the start of June to see where everyone's excitement lies? Tho I wanna write all of them eventually ofc.)

Weekly Recap | May 16th-June 5th 2022
Tumblr media
Hiiiii! Sorry that I’ve been missing recaps, in the last three weeks I’ve been busy finishing a sewing project, watching Stranger Things, reading an actual book for once (!!), working a bit of overtime, and then I randomly decided to pick up Larry fanfic again and read like..... two 200K+ fics lol. I’m heading into a busy period at work so I might miss some weeks again!
Complete
Decoys by littlerhymes/ @popliar (Canon Divergent, TFA | 19K | Teen): The serum makes Steve stronger, but not bigger. Instead of a superhero, he becomes a spy.
A Cross To Bear by Kalee60/ @kalee60 (Modern AU | 2K | General): Bucky’s night had slid from promising to boring a lot quicker than he’d expected. He’d absolutely nailed the costume of his ‘favourite childhood movie character’ for Clint’s dress up birthday party, except - not one person guessed who he was. It was demoralising to say the least. Bucky was surrounded by people who wouldn’t know a good movie if it hit them on the head. But then he meets a gorgeous stranger who is having the same trouble as him, and suddenly his night is looking up. Could Bucky be in his own cheesy movie where he finds his soul-mate standing beside the buffet?
The Watery Expanse by buckybarnesdeservestobehappy (hutchabelle) (Modern AU | < 1K | Mature): Fellow teachers and best friends Bucky Barnes and Steve Rogers are celebrating the end of the school year, but what they find is more than a holiday.
Dating During the Zombie Apocalypse and Other Problems with Bucky’s Love Life by buckybarnesdeservestobehappy (hutchabelle), rufferto (What If...? AU, Zombie Apocalypse | 5K | Mature): The problem with being a centenarian super soldier during the apocalypse is that it’s hard to find someone with shared life experiences, especially when half the dating pool has been turned into zombies. Although Bucky’s still not over Steve’s loss, he doesn’t have the energy to fight overly zealous and well-meaning Peter Parker. That’s why he agrees to an online dating profile, starts chatting with a user that goes by out_of_time, and figures out how to balance a social life with his very serious work of fighting zombies and saving the world. He also gets a surprise or two along the way.
Maybe You Were the Ocean by JJK/ @trenchcoatsandtimetravel (Mermaids | 7K | General): A collect of prompt fills for MerMay 2022
(I just need) your touch by HaniTrash/ @hanitrash (TFA | 1,7K | Explicit): When all the troops Steve rescued from the Kreischberg facility finally get back to camp, Steve and Bucky get some much needed alone time.
💙  Slut for Hire by buckyismybicycle/ @buckyismybicycle (Shrinkyclinks, Escort Steve | 6K | Explicit): Nat has a special gift for Bucky, who has too much energy to burn. Enter: Escort Steve Rogers, or: Slut for Hire.

💙 Love isn’t always a ‘coup de foudre’ by Becassine/ @becassine, kocuria-visuals (kocuria)/ @kocuria (Bridgerton AU, A/B/O | 6/13 | 26K | Explicit): When Steve Rogers is presented at Court as a desirable Male Omega to the world, he has no idea what to expect. But after meeting the sought-after Duke of Buchanan through a chance encounter, his life is forever turned upside down.

MerMay 2023 Day Sixteen Emergency Meeting
“Are you sure, Marvin?” Jack asked.
Marvin nodded. “The scrying spell doesn’t lie, especially with how much power I put into it. They got to Chase.”
The merms were gathered in the shallow water of the lake. All of them had managed to make it to the meeting—and they weren’t alone. Sitting on the shore was Chase’s family: Stacy and the twins, Sereia and Muirin. They’d panicked when Chase hadn’t shown up for their planned meeting, and Stacy had bundled up the kids and driven to the one place where they knew merms gathered for sure: the lake, of course. Stacy wanted to leave the kids at home, but she couldn’t understand the merm language, and without Chase, none of them could speak human. So the kids were needed as translators.
“I can’t believe they were at the old pier,” Stacy muttered. “That... that place is... well, who would’ve thought?”
“Maybe someone saw mermaids there and started spreading rumors around,” Sereia suggested. “But whatever. What’re we gonna do about Dad?”
“We’re going to go get him, of course!” Jackie shouts. “We got Anti out of that place, we can get Chase!”
“I do not think it’ll be that simple,” Schneep said worriedly.
“I agree,” Stacy said. “After we already broke in once, they’ll probably raise security measures. I doubt I’ll be able to go in. If they didn’t have security cameras, I’ll be surprised. And if those cameras didn’t pick up my face, I’ll be blown away.”
What about that other human? Jameson asked. The one with the boat? Is it the same case?
Stacy nodded. “Oliver. They probably remember him and the boat we took.”
“Well, can we talk to him anyway?” Jackie asked. “Maybe he has some ideas?”
“I do still have his email,” Stacy said slowly.
“I think you should try, Mom!” Sereia said.
Muirin nodded in agreement. “There’s no way we’re gonna leave Dad in there.” He folded his arms.
“What do the rest of us do?” Jack asked quietly. “I... I don’t know... We’re stuck in the water, we can’t... go in and get Chase...”
Jameson looked at Marvin. Aren’t there spells to turn merms into humans?
“Yes.” Schneep looked at Marvin as well. “That is how these kids exist in the first place.” The kids giggled.
Marvin hesitated. “There are, but... I-I think we should look for other options first. Those take a lot of energy, and they’re not guaranteed to work.”
“It’s fine, we can wait,” Jackie said. “Stacy can talk with that Ollie human, and the rest of us can try to find some other answer.”
Though they talked for some while more, no progress was made, and nobody came up with any new ideas. So, slowly, they disbanded. One by one they swam back into the lake. Marvin and Jameson headed for their home while the saltwater merms head back for the river leading to the ocean.
Jack was the last to leave. He swam along the shallow shoreline, trying to come up with some way for them to reach Chase. He was lost in his thoughts... but not lost enough to notice the flicker of movement in the corner of his eye. Immediately stopping, he looked around. The only thing of note was a hole in the ground. Strange... that hole wasn’t too far from where they’d talked with Stacy and the kids. And the entrance was big enough for a merm to squeeze through.
He stared at it for a while. The movement he’d seen had come from its direction. Maybe...
Jack gave a little wave, then continued towards the river.
Once he was out of sight, something moved inside the hole again. Green glowing eyes peered out from the darkness. It was only once night had fallen that Anti crawled out from his hiding spot and quickly headed towards the river. He didn’t want those lake merms knowing he was here.
So... that clownfish had gotten into trouble with those humans. And he was stuck in the same place Anti had been. That... gave Anti a strange feeling. He didn’t want Chase to be in there. He didn’t want any other merms to be in there.
Perhaps he’d found his way to break even with this group.

The Owl House Mermay Marathon: Huntlow (6/6)
Welp, I'm sure this isn't a surprise to any of you who follow me. Finally, it's Huntlow's turn, ending this marathon with my absolute favorite ship in the show.
Fun Fact: I drew these in order from the ship I liked the least to the ship I liked the most. Made the process more fun in the long run.
This one is definitely my favorite one I've drawn, and no, it's not because it's huntlow. I just feel like this one I drew the best.
Willow was a nice change from how I drew pretty much every other mermaid. And its all because of her body size. I have drawn Willow as a mermaid before, but I feel like I didn't do her body size justice in those old drawings. Part of this is I originally drew more Willow mid-sized to match how they drew her in the show, but over time, I slowly began drawing her bigger on purpose to celebrate her body type. (Body postivity is very important!) This is especially prevalent in this drawing. I drew her tail to be shorter and fatter, and made sure to give her some belly fat. I also decided to draw her hair down instead of the braids because I felt like that would be more practical for being underwater. Also, it allowed me to play with underwater hair physics a lot more.
Moving on to Hunter, he was definitely the most complicated mermaid I had to draw for this marathon. (Darius being the second.) And it was because I had to figure out how to incorporate his new scar map into the tail and fins. I have also drawn Hunter as a mermaid before, however, that design was much easier because his scar map was much simpler at the time. The notches were easy to design (although it still made drawing him more complicated due to the layer manipulation required to get the notches and the veins to look right.) But the real challenge was the scars on the tail itself. I do have a headcannon scar map I drew of Hunter for referening, but that didn't help much when having to transfer the scar map from his legs to his tail. I pretty much had to guess. I am happy with what I came up with, though. However, that was only half the battle. In the previous mermay, I used the exact same color scheme for the scars on his tail as the scars on his skin, but I decided to be more creative this time and make the tail scars their own color. Finding the right colors definitely took a while, but I'm really happy with how it came out in the end.
I might make even more Huntlow mermay for mermay this year. We'll see if I come up with any more ideas.
Also, fun fact: I was actually planning on doing some of the most popular non-romantic relationships for this marathon, too. Them being Dadrius and labyrinthbros, but I had pretty much no ideas for these, so I scrapped that idea.
I hope you enjoyed the marathon! Because I definitely had a lot of fun making these.

Mermay 2023 - 4th Week and last three days
Day 22 - Zodiac
Well, with a prompt like this one, it was a little too easy to go with the Aquarius for Mermay. But... the thing is I have a certain attachement for this astrological sign in particular.
Day 23 - Tradition
And here is "Mahu", the dumbo octopus merfolk from day 21, once more ! I had vaguely alluded to it, but "Mahu" won't be their name, even if this is what I had planned initially. I'll explain why.
You've probably noticed that all of the merfolks I made for Out of the Abyss are strongly inspired by polynesian cultures, the most obvious ones being Hawaiian and Maori. And "Mahu" is in itself a concept of the Hawaiian culture : a third gender of which the name translates litteraly to "in the middle". Mahu people had an important role in Hawaiian society. They taught spiritual and social traditions, which included, among other things, teaching the hula.
And so, for me to have the idea of naming them "Mahu" to begin with, you've probably figured out that it's because this is what they are, traditionally speaking. But as I thought about it, I realised naming them by what they are would be like naming a cat, well, "Cat". It's a bit dumb.
Basically, I want to give them a new name. I'll certainly keep a two syllables name to at least keep things simple.
Hmm... In fact, maybe I could find them a name that has something to do with traditions ?
Day 24 - Zaddy
I made this character on the spot as I wasn't really inspired by the prompt. But I think I managed well with it nonetheless.
Day 25 - Food
No matter his form, Humphrey will always be a big glutton. (Even if, thankfully, he doesn't have the same voracity as when he used to be an actual whale.)
Day 26 - Jewel
"Shiny... For me... ?"
Day 27 - Halle Bailey
Ok, I'm not gonna speak on the matter of the Disney remakes as I believe everybody knows and that everybody roughly agrees about it.
No, here, the subject is Miss Bailey. I think no one can deny it, her voice is magnificent. And no matter the state of the movie, if she took pleasure in playing Ariel's role, then I am gald for her. And I also wish her a good continuation in her career.
Day 28 - Sailor
Alright, I might be cheating a bit with this prompt here. But the idea had been floating in my head for a while now and I finally had an excuse to put it on paper.
I don't know if I was the only one to have this idea, but I saw no one imagine the Captain Caviar ending up with a merman form as a result from being cursed by Black Pearl.
And yet, I saw many people draw him as a merman, so I'm surprised I haven't already seen this idea roam around...
Day 29 - Barbie
I loved the Barbie movies when I was a kid, especially the Fairytopia series. Here, I drew Elina, main character of this movie series, who takes on a mermaid form for a good part of the movie "Mermaidia".
Day 30 - Blue
I had mentionned this on day 21, but I'll have to reiterate it for this prompt. Leviathan is a blue whale merman.
It's in fact for this same reason he's the tallest amongst his peers : blue whales are the biggest mammals known in the world. Even Humphrey, a little humpback whale merman in comparison, is no match.
Well, perhaps that under his original form, Humphrey could have surpassed Leviathan.
Day 31 - Good night
I never would have guessed that I needed to see Dino-sour be a father figure to a half dinosaur baby cookie in my life.
Yes, the previous sentence makes no sense out of context.
I no longer play Ovenbreak ever since... well, ever since even before what happened with Yogurca (the less we talk about it, the better), but I'm still trying to follow the stories on YouTube. And honestly, I think that Pond Dino is the best thing to have happened to the "Rise of the Blue Dragon" update. I get how their design bothers some (it's rather overloaded, let's admit it), but... Just...
Baby... <3
Baby that sleeps like an otter. <3

Wrote a little thing for mermay, and while there's much more to the idea than presented in this oneshot, I hope everyone enjoys this little preview of the constant aquatic!
Tumblr version will be under the cut:
Hurried steps pounded the dirt by the cliffsides.
Wilson tried his best to catch his breath, but could see it was all for naught- he was too late.
He and a few other survivors were attempting to unravel the small timeloop the constant had tucked away in one of it’s many layers, quite aptly named ‘the gorge’, but their current attempt to satiate the cruel beast in the sky had already begun with rocky progress. They were hoping if they could satiate it in a way superior to their previous successful attempts, perhaps this loop could end and free the poor residents into the grater constant, but…
The looming Gnaw’s appetite had reached its limit before they could finish enough dishes, favor run out and time cut short. The ground and air rumbled with spite and ancient magic, and Wilson’s harried breathing started to turn into coughing fits, his lungs rendering themselves apart to transform into gills.
Despite the harsh circumstances, Wilson had a little surprise up his sleeve for such an occasion: a little life amulet and the broken shard of a tentacle spike he had brought with him in secret when traversing to the gorge. Had failure halted his process before? Many times, too many times. Wilson was quite keen on figuring out what would happen of a survivor should find themselves after the Gnaw’s point in time where it punished failure with mermification, though the process seemed to kick him out of his body once there was no trace of his humanity left, back into the blank nothingness when reforming a body in a new layer of the constant or starting the time loop over again. He had quite hoped that Wanda could help, but in her absence… well, Wilson had plenty of experience with practical suicides and timely revivals, he was willing and able to make do.
He looked over at the sea while he rushed to put the amulet on, unchanging in this particular area despite the moon rising the sea in every other area of the constant. The rocky cliffs remained high and impassable to attempt to sail. Never the less, it made for a serene sight to calm his mind for what he needed to do next.
He took up the tentacle spike’s remaining shard and raised it up for a quick pierce to the heart. He’s normally one to opt for draining a major artery, but time was of the essence while he felt his legs mutating and his skin turning to scales in patches.
The pierce was agonizing but the results were swift.
Wilson stumbled backwards while twisting the spike until he could feel his heart stop. His lung had gotten nicked in the violent act, spewing blood into his choking fits, but he was in so much pain he paid it no mind.
His heart stopped beating.
His last step back met air.
Wilson didn’t have enough oxygen left in his brain to fully realize he was falling, stony sea rocks out of perception in his blacked out vision.
He didn’t have anything else left in his brain once his skull hit the sharp shore, killing him a few seconds sooner than the lack of a functioning heart would have.
His partially mutated body was swept away by the waves, and under the surface where his amulet began to glow and activate.
Oo0o0oO
Wilson wasn’t sure what he was expecting when he become conscious after his revival, but it wasn’t a chestful of water when he took a breath. He opened his eyes in haste and was rewarded with the sting of salt water, hands grasping at his burning torso, unable to right himself to stand or push himself up.
His panic and flailing motions continued for a long moment. After all, why would he expect to wake up submerged? As the pain in his eyes grew to a more bearable level, the gentleman scientist was able to perceive his surroundings, as well as himself.
The light of the cloudy sky just barely illuminated the peaks of the waves from below, just enough for Wilson to know he was indeed under the waters surface. As baffling as it was to be underwater without blacking out, he could at least tell what direction ‘up’ should have been.
He made no hesitation to swim towards the surface, doing his best to ignore the small collection of air bubbles as he breathed out and the deformed scales jutting out of his gloves.
He breached the surface and tried his best to breathe in, but found himself exhaling water every time he tried to empty his lungs out. Despite having a strong breast stroke to fall back on, his thighs felt numb and difficult to move, leaving him unable to kick past moving his knees. He pushed himself with a stronger stroke upwards, and breathed in as hard as he could, only to spasm with pain once he receded under the waves.
He hacked and gagged as a burst of air bubbles came out of his mouth and his sides, the pain lessening as he involuntarily took in more batter between fits.
Wilson became weary with confusion and strain alike and decided it might be worth it to just let himself drown at this rate.
He let himself sink to the bottom, the little granules of sand floating up with the soft impact.
Letting himself go slack on the seabed, he couldn’t help but think of how peaceful this moment in time was despite drowning to death, the gloomy light of the gorge glistened above and the water around him was so much quieter in the depths away from the violent waves and whooshing winds. It was a shame he fell into the sea and wasted his chance to explore the gorge beyond the looping point, but he’s just have to try again the next time he could sneak some ‘extra items’ by in the portal. He closed his eyes and sighed, a few leftover bubbles rolling out of his throat, relishing the feeling of a rare, peaceful death.
He felt the current pick up, water gently flowing through his hair in a rather pleasant way.
Wilson didn’t feel any pain in his chest anymore and wondered why he wasn’t upright at the florid postern back at their current base yet.
He opened his eyes to the same underwater view, and a gentle breathing in of the sea water seemed to be like breathing thick air, his eyes didn’t even sting anymore. He took another deep breath to confirm it; he was breathing water, but something on the side of his ribs was sticking to his shirt. His mouth formed a line once it caught up to his brain that was was going to be in the here and now for some time.
He pushed his arms out in front of himself to properly investigate what happened to him; it was clear he wasn’t able to die quickly enough to prevent his lungs from turning to gills, and he could feel the wrongness throughout the rest of his body too. His arms retained a more human shape than the blobby merm appendage it was doomed to turn into, but his nails turned into sharp white claws at the end of his more angular fingers, and something felt like his skin might have been partially degloved beneath his actual finger-less gloves, though the rest of the gloves had been torn up with some prominent green scales lifting the fabric up and away in too many spots. Removing the gloves proved to be a small hassle, but once he got them off the pressure on his forearms and palms receded. He mostly has human skin where patched of various sized scales didn’t grow in, but between his fingers were thin growths of skin akin to webbing. He waved his right hand around, feeling the increased resistance of the water when his hand was outstretched. He simply observed and muttered “Huh.”
The mutter was something he felt vocalize in his throat, but he could also feel the subtle vibrations on the sides of his neck. He reached a hand up to touch, and the tips of his claws he could feel small ridges, just like a sharks gills. He kept his hand nearby while he yelled out “Hello, is anyone there?” into the distant kelp masses. Naturally there was no response, but Wilson took the time to look around the environment, finding himself in a little patch of fine sand between the high rocks reaching up and past the surface, a thick ‘field’ of an unknown kind of short kelp, and a clear stretch of water that seemed to go… somewhere.
Wilson had momentarily become distracted with all the new things to discover around him that he had neglected to finish inspecting the changes within him. As soon as he tried to swim over to the kelp, he had the strange sensation in his thighs again, not quite numbness but he couldn’t explain why he couldn’t feel them moving they way he was trying to. Looking down, he was that his trousers were in a precarious state, not just torn up but sucked into the mass patch of scales on his lap, spreading over each thigh and twisted into a mass of flesh that bridged the gap between his thighs. He put his hands over the mass and tried his best to spread his legs with a strenuous grunt, but to no avail- his thighs had become stuck together in the middle, possibly a healing error from the amulet mistaking the scales for a wound and trying to fix a body that had expired between states of being. He pulled his muscles so hard that the new skin formed over it began to tear and bleed slightly, but without a means of healing, Wilson wasn’t willing to try to cut his legs back apart just yet. He sighed and looked down at the rest of his legs, his calves were free and still human shaped though the scales had shredded the lower portion of his trousers completely, and his shoes had split at the tips to accommodate his longer toes, also with skin webbing added.
The changes to his body were novel and fascinating, but the rumble of hunger in his stomach was a familiar feeling, both a reminder and confirmation that he would still need to feed himself despite his physical state and new location.
He swam over to the seaweed growths he saw earlier, though to say ‘swim’ would undermine just how clumsy his movements were- he had not had a chance to practice such movements since he was a younger man, leaving him paddling and flailing and doing little incomplete kicks like a miserable creature going every which way in all directions until he remembered how to do a breast stroke. By the time he actually got to the seaweed patches, he had managed to regain some competency in his form, despite the atrocious changes to his body.
He started to grab at some of the kelp, noting small and short brown leaves next to bundles of grape-like growths that would bob up with a distinct translucent yellow tint. He picked at some of the leafy fronds, and taking a nibble out of one proved disappointing, empty of any value much like eating the leaves of a deciduous tree. He grabbed one of the ‘fruits’ off the bunch and popped into his mouth like a berry. The foul burst that came out of it was horrendous, like a concentrated sample of the most seal and seagull infested coastal pungency he had ever had the misfortune to experience, and the salty water around him was a stark relief as he clawed any remaining substance from his mouth.
As his frenzy died down, he fingertips and clawed nails brushed over his teeth more slowly- he could feel his teeth had become sharper, but at this point the shock of his mutations has dulled down. He still needed to find something to eat, and swam towards the more open water to explore.
The sand stretched far and long into the distance.
There was nothing but sand for a good while.
At this point, Wilson had to take an occasional break to look around for any distinguishing features, clutching his grumbling stomach to soothe the growing ache. Something seemed different not to far off from where he wound up, the long stretch of sand seemed just a little bit shorter, stopping abruptly where the water became brighter and the current became stronger.
Once he swan to the void in the ocean floor, he grasped the edge to keep himself steady and peered over.
The entire sea poured over into infinity, the water around him spilling over into a torrent and down onto a floating disk that looked an awful lot like the land masses and circular sea Wilson could easily recognize from any of the maps he made over the last however-many-cycles, in turn high above other disks of land and sea that poured into one another like overflowing goblets, going repeatedly into a black infinity. The sun over and under each disk looked like blurry stars in their own right, their lights beautiful and small through the refraction of the water spilling over from the high level of the gorge. Maxwell once mentioned the darkness that laid ‘out of bounds’ wherever the layer he would generate, the odd tranquility of quietly looking off to something beyond what even their eyes could not truly peer, and Wilson understood how breathtaking the whole system was and how interconnected each ‘world’ of the constant really was in ways he couldn’t perceive.
As much as he would have loved to stay where he was to observe, he knew his hunger was a clock ticking down, and he’d rather have a much better reward for the risk of death. There didn’t seem to be much in the way of edible or usable materials here, so that left the massive volume of water cascading over the edge and wherever that might lead; a much more exciting sort of death than starvation by any measure. Looking straight down, Wilson could see the water falling a great distance before forming a base of mist and cloud, and began to tip himself just a little further with each moment looking at it, lest he scare himself out going down preparing for a big leap over.
The pull of the current did the rest of the work once he had reached out far enough.
The sudden acceleration of being pulled down had caught Wilson off guard, but he had a long way to the bottom. He was swam under the pressure of the current towards the edge of the water, just enough to stick his head out but not far enough to risk a premature ejection, and was rewarded with the clarity of the beautiful sight he had sampled before. He could see each segment fly past him, most unfamiliar, but a few he had an odd recollection of, like a circle of rocks around a crab king right by where the sea poured over, just like the one he saw five ‘start-over’s ago, same placement and everything! He was swept down past a few more, but the one he could see that got his attention was another familiar world where he could see a boat.
He could see himself on the boat, with the same prime-mate killing him in the exact way he remembered dying that time.
Wilson extended a clawed hand to his chin in thought- the time issues the gorge experienced surely meant that time’s rules had different changes depending on where one was in the constant, and being between all the worlds and layers and sets and boards meant that for the briefest of moments, he too was between time itself, however long this ride would last.
Another world he was still high above was folding in onto itself, crumpled into a ragged ball like a failed blueprint before massive shadow hands flexed their fingers over the mass, forming trees and rocks and other things as the ball stretched out again into something new. Wilson could just barely see two little dots coming out of a flash in the center before that world passed him by entirely, only a deep sort of rock with it’s own little leaks visible from underne-
Wilson hit the end of the waterfall, but realized mid-air that the end wasn’t the splashing water against the surface but a storm absorbing all the water to rain down on everything below it.
Wilson flipped past the freezing cloud and through the sky, screaming all the water in his gills out and drowning in air for a brief moment until he landed hard into the sea on his belly with an impressive splash.
The pain of the landing caused Wilson to be dazed for a long while, only just being able to breathe to regain his composure. He left himself drift in the new current. He had plenty to mull over in his own brain, there would be no urgent need to see where he wound up, if not for the continuous hunger pains. He brought himself back upright (What he thought was upright? All he had to tell was the light on the surface and the slightest sense of buoyancy) to look around, and he found himself in a much more lush environment.
Far from a flat sand field, the would around him had too many things to note at once, lots of little rocks next to bigger ones, familiar stretches of bull kelp reaching high from their roots to the surface, and a variety of shells all across the seabed. Wilson went right for the kelp, knowing it to be edible even when raw, grabbing fistfuls and shoving into his mouth with haste. While the texture wasn’t particularly appetizing, the salty taste seemed mellow after getting used to breathing and swallowing salt water. Luckily for the scientist, there was plenty to harvest when one wasn’t restricted to the very top, though it was hard to say how much he had picked when most of it went right between his pearly whites to try to fill his stomach for the next while. He put the remaining amount after his feeding frenzy into what was left of his pockets for later, though he certainly wasn’t excited to eat it again if he had to.
Now that his immediate need for food had been taken care of, he could properly explore!
He began to grab at some of the shells, recognizing the familiar shellbells from his time on the surface, and raising some of them up to see if the tiny creatures inside behaved differently when underwater. The tiny green… snails? Crabs? Salamanders? seemed to be just as reclusive as on the surface, tucking themselves further into their shells. Wilson supposed he’d have to look into them later when he could get a hammer.
The thought of a hammer had Wilson reaching into his pockets for the materials. His hands met the distinct squish of kelp fronds and nothing else.
Wilson began to sober up from his need to explore. He had no materials, not even an axe or a spear to defend himself when the need would arise, and it would arise here in the constant, no matter his special circumstances.
He began to look around for things to gather, easily finding rocks and flint on the sandy bottom and pocketing them as well. He swam up closer to the surface and was able to grab a little bit of grass, but he felt his immediate findings would be inadequate, and so swam away from his landing zone.
Skimming the surface let him find some floating bundles of sticks and more grass, but with how much he had to swim between each find, he couldn’t help but be worried. He was at least able to make a regular spear, but… Making a few test thrusts with it let him know his mobility would be an issue when attacking, putting enough power behind the spear also forced his entire body to stiffen, and hitting a rock below had him pushing away without ground to properly stand on. Wilson sighed, making do and putting the spear on one of the loops on his pants, keeping it ready to grab the moment he felt he needed it.
He stroked a webbed hand though his hair whilst looking around for anything of use, swimming forward while his mind drifted. The fact his hair seemed to retain some of its shape rather than floating everywhere was nice, though it floated off his scalp just enough to make him feel the need to smooth it back down before it got in his face again. His fingers brushed by his ear, pointed and lengthened in various places like a merms head fins, though thankfully only on the edge of the helix, helping to keep the side of his magnificent hair in place.
The thought was interrupted when he got close to a pillar of white rock, and to the familiar shadows that made Wilson’s heart speed up with stress.
He hated cookie cutters and he was certain they hated him too. They seemed to always swim too close when it was most inconvenient, and today would be no exception as one plunged down from the surface and towards Wilson, jaws open for all the sticks Wilson had gone though the trouble of collecting. Wilson took his spear back out, jabbing it the things creepy creepy face, backing up as much as he could swim to make sure it didn’t try to eat his spear if it got too close. Sure, they were aggravating to fight on a boat, but at least they were face down and distracted eating rather than opening their empty maw and eyes right at him. After a few more unnerving blows and a lucky bite from the grey menace, the cutter began to twitch and turn belly up, Wilson did not hesitate to grab the purple meat before it could float to the surface, and swam away as fast as he could before the others drifted close enough to take an interest.
While swimming away, he lamented he could not collects their discarded shells to make a helmet, but he knew better than to take a risk with such foul little bastards close by. He rubbed the bite wound on his left arm and got as far away from the salt pillars as his stubby little flippers could bring him.
Wilson drifted off into darker water, concerned that it was already dusk, the seafloor fading from gritty white sands to murky grit and white roots. All sorts of silhouettes could be seen from below, faded with less sunlight to highlight them but still recognizable as tree tops and figs and hanging spiderwebs of the waterlogged environment. Wilson sighed with relief, the darkening skies above the sea merely the shade of the great massive knobbly tree, and all the boons that could be found under it. He swam over the larger looping roots of the tree and up to the surface, collecting a little haul of grasses and twigs and driftwood. He made an axe, a backpack, plus a torch by habit for later, and quickly got to work on cutting the smaller trees from the root up for some regular wood, eager to get back to being fully equipped.
A few sweetfish swam by during the cutting, Wilson made a mental note to invent some sort of sea-trap to harvest them later.
He was able to get plenty of wood, and quite a bit of entertainment watching the sea striding spiders comes down with nobody to find on the surface. Once Wilson felt confident he had the upper hand, he began to stab at them from below, completely safe as long as he remained under the surface. He felt satisfied for how much silk he was able to get from a little pest control, proud as he could be despite the circumstances, and almost wished Maxwell could be here to see how well he was doing with a new kind of environment to discover. He laughed to himself with a memory of the first time he brought Maxwell to a waterlogged forest like this. Maxwell had gotten into a bit of a sour mood once he realized the only thing easy to access were the figs, and hadn’t gotten into better spirits until Wilson showed him how to harvest the tree nuts by recklessly ramming the boat at top speed into the tree. Of course, Maxwell was furious whilst patching the many holes the boat had sprung open, but once they retrieved the nut he seemed to be quite amused with such a ridiculous harvesting method, even laughing about it until the fireflies came out and the lantern needed more fuel. Remembering that spontaneous laugh made Wilson feel warm all over, lights still all around him.
He looked up and realized the fireflies were already out again, and the darkness was starting to encroach.
His warm feelings halted immediately, he held his breath and swam up to breach, and lo and behold, the sun was already setting above the surface, and setting quickly.
Wilson supposed it was his own fault for not being more diligent about checking the conditions above sooner, but he did not panic. He pulled out his torch the same way he had thousands of times before, and stroked a stick over the main knob to ignite.
He remained in darkness.
Wilson slapped his clawed hand to his scalp, scales on the sides of his palms scraping down his stupid face. He forgot for the briefest of moments that he was underwater, and fire of any sort was out of the question.
Panic began to seep in as a familiar, distant hissing started to approach.
He swam up to the fireflies on the waters surface, kicking so hard that his thighs began to tear apart again, but there was no time to care about that, he needed light more than anything else!
The fireflies scattered within seconds of getting splashed, leaving Wilson in their fading memory of a glow.
Wilson took the torch and tried to hold it up over the surface, only to be defeated by the waves spilling over the highest point he could attempt to keep it up.
He was dragged down by claws before he could get another attempt.
While the scent of roses didn’t carry well in seawater, her touch was something Wilson could always remember.
It was not frequently that Wilson had the chance to hear Charlie speak, and less so that it did not fill him with dread.
“You thought you were so clever, didn’t you?”
Her voice echoed around him, full of venom and amusement alike. The claws around him and inside of him dug in. He was stunned- no words could come out of his mouth, not that they would be anything more than a stuttering plea made in pure terror.
A charming little laugh wasn’t quite fitting with the mood, but that didn’t stop Charlie, nothing could stop her in her own domain. Wilson could just barely see her face peering out from shadow.
“But this little detour of yours has given me some lovely… inspirations. We have some new plans for you. I wouldn’t trust anyone with my new little project more than you… Do you trust me?”
Wilson couldn’t muster an answer to that predatory smile. To Wilson, this was a loaded question; he didn’t have a choice. To Charlie, this was surely like a cat playing with the poor little bird it already began to mangle on the ground.
Wilson hesitantly nodded his head, figuring it was better to not resist whatever great and terrible thing Charlie was about to throw him into.
“Good.”
Charlies visage snapped into a terrorbeaks maw and around Wilson’s head, making quick work of the half-mutated form.
Charlies face returned to normal with a smile and she let what was left of his body sink down into the depths. She was excited to see what he would do at her new postern, and all the little things she had created.
The new plan had begun in earnest.

Hey, this is Sea Piggie. I hope you don't mind me referring myself by that nickname you gave from the mermay event (it was just too cute!)
I saw you have another event. Congrats on getting 1.8k followers! I'm glad more people are able to read your content ^^
I'm not sure if I understood the "event adjuster" right, but is it like creating a different scenario for a Canon event? 'Cause I was thinking... for the Phantom Bride event from TW, what if Reader was wearing a wedding gown? And then upon seeing Reader, the Ghost Bride replaces Idia with her XD
And as a fellow Azul lover, I'm curious how he reacts 👀 If I misunderstood the event, please ignore XD Thank youuuuu
HASGDHASGD OFC I DONT MIND!!!! I'M GLAD MY NICKNAME FOR YOU HAS BEEN PUT TO GOOD USE!!! :D thank you so much hehe i was surprised when i saw that i hit that milestone!!! :O
actually you and my mutual zell requested pretty much the same thing so i combined your requests!! you can find the fic i wrote for you two below!!
