So hi! Yes, hello. I came up with Jimothy several years ago and was the one to submit the prior propaganda to the blog. These two have been in so many scenarios in my mind, y'all have no idea. They are so small. They are both mentor figures (more or less). They, uh, small. Even outside the ship dynamic, I can imagine them being amazing friends. Did you know that prior to their Disney work, both of their original voice actors (Cliff Edwards for Jiminy, Edward Brophy for Timothy) were in a live-action film with Buster Keaton? That has nothing to do with the ship, that's just a fun fact. I would have more to say, but like I said, still sick. Please vote Jimothy.

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH (just got home from work and I have a new puppy so I will be dead for the next week but here's this very quick overview bc I love you and also Hermitcraft)

OH BOY DO I HAVE THE ANSWER FOR YOU!!!

First of all: Hermitcraft is essentially a series where a bunch of super talented and pretty longstanding mcyt-ers play on a single minecraft server for a period of a "season" and build absolutely fucking insane bases and vibe together. It's all very structured and organized so on every member's channel u'll find playlists for each season.

(oh and by longstanding mcyt-ers I mean literal pioneers in the mcyt community, people who have redstone inventions named after them bc they've been around longer than the redstone itself--etc)

The server is super chill!!! Everyone is very nice and they all get along super well and coordinate things on a discord server so that everyone's got all the info and they also prioritize building over basically everything--which means like, fire tic is off (meaning fire cannot spread), you do not steal anythign unless you will pay it back at least like twice over (once Grian accidentally killed ppl so he grinded them out full enchanted netherite armor/tools + some blocks and this is literally just like, what everyone does)

But!!!! besides all that!!!! where do you start *watching*!!!!

There are something like,,, 30 members on teh HC server??? more??? I cannot remember. Every one of them posts Hermitcraft episodes to their youtube channels, but there's also a HC recap youtube channel dedicated to weekly recaps of all hermit activity which you can find here!!

The thing about HC is that everytime there's a new update to MC, or even just the server starts to get stale--they throw out the world and start a new, completely empty one from scratch and thus is a new "season." Currently we're only a few episodes into the 8th season!

I watch a very limited scope of HC but--here are my limited reccomendations

GRIANNNNNNNN: because of course, we love grian, we stan grian, he has cats--what more could you ask for? Yes you've seen him gracing your screen in MCC and killing it, and you've also most likely seen him in fanart comparing him to Philza bc both are badass MC players with ✨wings✨he's chaotic and super creative and very kind! he also builds lots of mega builds and they are *incredible.* You're gonna wanna watch him if you want some good, lighthearted gremlin content.

Goodtimeswithscar: my BELOVED!!! This man is like, chaos but make it absolutely harmless. He is Dr. Doofenshmurtz levels of unfunctioning in the best ways possible. Mans tries so hard to be a villain and he just akjsd;lfja;sldfkj cannot pull it off and I adore him so much for it. Also he's got a new vibe every season--last season he was a wizard who lived in a giant snail before moving into a massive mining-construciton-thing??? And this season he has very much Howl's Moving Castle vibes. He also streams on twitch!!! Which I would totally recommend bc he's very chill and fun to listen to. You're gonna wanna watch him if you want a little bit more spice to your episodes--what is that spice exactly? Just watch and you'll see >:))

Some honorable mentions of ppl I don't really watch but love:

Pearlescentmoon: she's a new member to the HC server this season and I love her!!! I've only seen her a bit in Grian and Scar's vids but she took down an entire build just to rotate it like 90 degrees we stan an icon.

Mumbojumbo: a redstone fucking madman--also like--posh?? but in an unoffensive way?? I have no idea this man is so white but also I love him?? that doesn't describe him right just--just watch something of his and you'll understand.

Bdubs: my BELOVED!!! he's just aslkjd;flajsdflk everything, idk man just watch a vid and you'll be in love he's just aslkjdf;lasjkf everything. His starter house is a massive moon with a clock hanging from it it's so pog I love him so much watch his videos

Now that 2022 is almost here, I want to do some ramblings on 2021's Pokeani Episodes. Most of the episodes and arcs were very good, but I'd say my favorites of this year are JN053 (Goh catching a Suicune as a rookie trainer is not the most popular opinion, but I like it), JN065 (Iris returns as Unova's Champion), JN068 (Gary returns and so does many of Ash's past mons), JN074-75 (Dawn returns and Moonlightblossomshipping is born), JN084-87 (Ash's gloves return, "Saitokins" does too, and Ash finally Mega Evolves Lucario and defeats "Saitokins"), and JN89-90 (Dawn returns again and a whole lot of intense drama happens). My only least favorite episode of this year is JN081, and I know many of you guys agree with me. But other than that, the other filler episodes were pretty cute and fun as well. And some such as JN083 had it's tearjerker moments too.

For the three Main Characters goals Ash has gotten closer than ever to reaching Master Class. Though many of the Super Class battles have happened off-screen, which is disappointing cause it robbed his Pokémon of getting screentime. Something we still want more of. But the onscreen battles were still awesome to watch, and it seems that they finally took an onscreen pace after Ash entered Ultra Class. And the two Ultra Class battles we have seen this year were awesome. And Ash's Pokémon weren't completely robbed of the onscreen time they deserved, Ash's Farfetch'd now Sirfetch'd, and Dragonite got at least some of the onscreen battle time they deserved, and even Lucario was robbed of a little bit of screentime a few episodes after evolving last year got a time to shine as Mega Lucario this year. Though we still want more of Ash's Journeys Team Screentime next year(especially Gengar and Dracovish).

For Goh's goal to catch Mew, right now it's basically simple and straightforward. While it's also creative, I'm not quite invested in his goal to become a project mew member, though I do like Asahi and Tsurugi but I still Hokada's intentions. While he's says the he's researching Mew to find out why Pokémon are here. He just gives me villains vibes, and seems rather shady. And I still hope that I'm right, cause I think this would make the Project Mew Arc. even more interesting. But we'll find out next year if thing get interesting.

While Koharu's goal is simple too, but it's also relatable as well. As someone who hasn't figured her goals out I relate. So far Koharu and Eevee are on the right path, just taking it slowly while meeting all kinds of new people and pokemon on the way, and making connections with them as well. I like it, and I'm looking to more Koharu and Eevee episodes next year.

And this Year we got to see Ash and Pikachu use the Z-Move 10,000,000 Volt Thunderbolt again. Ash obtaining a Mega Glove, Key Stone, Lucarionite, and finally Mega Evolving his Lucario for the first time. And Gengar gets more prominent screentime and gains the ability to Gigantamax, and hopefully we'll see Gengar get a win with his Gigantamax in the next Ultra Class battle.

But in The World Championships Battle, your only allowed to use either Dynamax, Mega Evolution, or Z-Moves in each battle. But of course that could be different in the Master Class, or when Ash finally faces Leon in a rematch. I don't know for sure yet, but I can't wait to see what they decide to do.

Some Characters from the games have finally made their tv debuts this year as well. Opals debut and later appearance in JN082 was interesting and unique indeed. Not counting movie cameos, Wikstrom finally makes his tv debut since Gen 6 and helps Ash's Farfetch'd become much less aloof more chivalrous and gallant towards it's trainer. And the debut of our Shy Boy Allister was how I thought it would be, but shy or not he was still kind enough to help Ash's Gengar achieve Gigantamax. He even knows how much Gengar loves Ash and all of the hardships it endured prior to meeting him. Now that was a very sweet and wholesome moment.

But the best part of Pokémon Journeys was all the past character returns. It was nice to see many of these familiar faces again after a couple of years and for them to get some time to shine. Some have shown how much they have a grown, and play a part in the episodes plot and occasionally in the Main Characters Goals. My favorite returns this year were Iris's and Dawn's. Not just because they were Main Characters, but both have shown how much they have grown since their debuts up to this point. Iris definitely, cause she managed to catch a Goodra, and her Axew has evolved all the way into a Haxorus. While we may not have seen much of Dawn's growth since the BW Series it's still there. Besides, I loved her interactions with Koharu in the Summer Special. I definitely became a Moonlightblossomshipper during these two episodes. She even show the kind and sympathetic person she has become since dhe became a trainer through her interactions with Koharu and her Parallel Counterpart.

While Pokémon Journeys still has it's quirks, it still had pretty good episodes and moments this year. Ash and some of Goh's Pokémon (with the exception of Pikachu and Grookey) did receive at least some much needed screentime and development. And hopefully next year they will give them even more time to shine in battles and in filler episodes.

As for all of Goh's numerous and still growing Cerise Park Pokémon the ones that stood out were the most this year were Cinderace, Inteleon, and Grookey. While Cinderace didn't get a whole lot of screentime this year, it's still his number 1 ace. Sobble comes out of it's shy little shell, and evolves into a Depressed Drizzile. Though it didn't get much screentime in that form, it got a little more screentime again when it evolved into a Super Cool Inteleon though still not as much as Sobble. Grookey is a really cute mischief maker with much personality. Though it didn't get a lot of development in its screentime this year. It's still a cutie especially with its moments with Goh, Pikachu, and Eevee, and it's a favorite of mines from Goh's Pokémon in 2021. I'm not in any rush if it ever evolves into Thwackey and then Rillabloom next year.

As for Koharu, she has developed a genuine bond with her Eevee during their Journey to discover the path they want to take. Koharu's Eevee may be my favorite of all the Eevee's owned by the past Pokegirls. She has such an adorable personality, and she even helped her trainer out of her aloofness and goes out on more adventures with Ash and Goh since Eevee was caught last year. If Eevee ever decides to evolve, I hope that whatever form she chooses she'll still have the same loveable personality she has now.

Overall Pokémon Journeys went pretty well this year. I'm excited to see what's in store for our Main Characters and their Pokémon next year, and possibly the outcome of their current goals. As well as too see who else is returning for the Pokeani 25th Anniversary next year, and the other PokeGame characters that will be making their TV debuts as well.

Ah yes, Pokémon rivals; my favourite topic

Warning: this list is massively biased. I (kinda jokingly) rag on every ‘Awful’ tier rival, so if you don’t want to here that, feel free to skip that explanation. I am pretty harsh with Marnie, I know a lot of people like her, so if you do like her PLEASE don’t read her section because I do not want to upset anyone. 

Also, I do ramble a bit how I like SWSH but they are my personal least favourite games (which is a hot take, I know), so if that would upset you please skip. Take care of yourselves <33

Anyway, epic explanation under the cut:

*if N was on this list he would fall under “Amazing”. Breath-taking story, breath-taking development, great theme songs, awesome character, fantastic team.

Why Blue is in S rank (very long explanation compared to the rest)

You cannot tell me Blue (or Green, or Gary, whatever you want to call the main Kanto rival) isn’t THE BEST RIVAL EVER. They got it SO RIGHT. He inspires hatred, AND sympathy. Literally, his grandad, the only living relative aside from his sister we even know about, loves you (the player) more than him and it’s kind of sad. 

Blue is great, he has a crappy pronunciation of ‘Bonjour’ (see Pokémon Masters), he says ‘smell ya later!’ he has class, swag, and is by no doubt the most challenging rival character. He is the only rival I never swept on a normal run. He is always demeaning you; he is always one step ahead all the way up until the champion battle where you finally beat him. AND HIS CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT OMG.

He still is arrogant and prideful, but respects people and wants to guide people to be better at Pokémon battling and thrives when he sees others succeeding - he doesn’t mind being ‘a former champion’. HECK HE’S SO COOL AND AMAZING. 

Also he has the best champion theme and encounter theme ever. Yes, he was a previous F/O so I am super biased; but so were 3 others on this list. 

Silver and Gladion

These two were my F/Os when I was much younger (around 12). They are great rivals with great development and story arcs. Plus, they have bopper encounter themes and battle themes. Gladion was my real introduction to the oc x canon community and inspired me to take drawing on as a hobby (as well as Lillie but I did not end up drawing her as much). 

Brendan, Cheren, Hugh, and Barry

When I was 10 playing Omega Ruby, I liked Brendan a lot (so... another past F/O... he’s the final one though). I dunno, he genuinely had a good friendship with that extra spice of rivalry with our character, May. I do not like friendly rivals (if my listing wasn’t obvious), but Brendan did it right. There was a lot of touching scenes with him and May *cough*cough* Delta Chapter *cough*cough* which really made me connect with him when I was 10. Now, Brendan and May are interchangeable depending on which one of them you pick to play as, so why have I ranked Bredan far above May? Better encounter and battle theme (yes, they have different instrumentation) and he gets the childhood crush pass.

Cheren is cool, I just really like his character and his attempts to create a good strategy. He is really dedicated to what he loves and becomes a gym leader (like BLUE DID. Blue has it all, really). Plus, glasses are cute :) (he is the same age as me, I can legally say that even though that was an obvious nod to Byakuya but you never know what people will take out of context). 

Hugh is cool becomes he somewhat feels like an asshole rival, but at the same time, has a really soft side. Like, his whole motivation to be a good trainer is to save his sister’s Purrloin that was stolen by Team Plasma. He is a hero y’all. Also GREAT encounter and battle theme; huge thumbs up. 

Barry! My man! Overall, cool rival with a great team. He is the second hardest rival to me (but Blue is harder than him by a landslide still). He is really funny in both the games and the anime and despite being a bit more friendly, he still sparks a lot of rivalry with you. Plus, his dad is battle frontier brain Palmer! How awesome! He was also my first rival, so that’s something special to me too. 

Average Tier

I like Hau as a character, he feels like a genuine friend and how he develops with the main character and Lillie is really wholesome. It’s just - I dislike him as a rival, a lot. Easy fights, not the best encounter theme... just kind of there. I get why people consider Gladion as ‘the true rival’ of S and M because he really is. Hau is also a rival that chooses the starter WEAK to your starter like the gen 6 rivals (who I hate with my entire being). 

Wally had a bad-ass final battle theme song and moment. That’s literally the only reason he makes the average tier. If this was a ranking disregarding ORAS he is easily down in the ‘Awful’ tier. 

I like Pokémon Sword and Shield... except I just don’t like them as much as every other game (yes. I did play Pokémon Yellow and enjoyed it more, thank you). I know you all HATE that, but that is just my opinion - I think I have earned the right to say that after my almost 12 years of playing these games and being a VGC player for a few years. It has good characters and some cool Pokémon and yeah... gameplay? Lacklustre. I really do not know what went wrong outside of story. Somehow the competitive battle scene is not the fun it used to be. Dynamax bugs me, the lack of megas bugs me, the dex cut REALLY bugs me. I know I am not the only one who thought this game lacked the charm other Pokemon games have. Graphically though, it’s very nice for the most part.

I have gone way off-topic, but anyway, yeah. SWSH rivals make average because I like their characters (especially Hop’s development). Outside of that, not the best rivals.

May is cool for a lot of the reasons I discussed with Brendan.

Lacking Tier

I like Bianca’s whole deal with her dad and how Elesa has a nice moment to shine too - and that’s it. I know the whole theme of her team is friendship but I die inside every time I watch a Chandelure uses RETURN. It was cool she returned in BW2 I guess? I like how her battle theme matches her personality, but it isn’t anything to write home about. 

I like Calem a bit more than Serena but I do not want to pull another Brendan and May (even though I had some good reason to do that) and I’m going to put them here. Bad teams and not memorable in the slightest, Calem and Serena belong in this tier. 

Awful Tier

X and Y rivals amirite??? They just suck. They are annoying and they suck. They have 3 Pokémon in all final fights, really? At least Shauna is likeable in the anime. 

I hate Trace. But, he has one funny memory I have with my dad that makes him slightly better. We both named him ‘Blue’ since Blue is the actual Kanto rival, but then Blue showed up in LGPE... And then the two ‘Blues’ talked to each other and it was mildly amusing at the time. Anyway, he didn’t deserve Blue’s champion theme (which is even used for Blue in later games outside of his champion battle (BW2), THAT IS NOT TRACE’S THEME. Anyway, he is the gross friendly rival that attempted to fulfil the best rival’s shoes. Sorry Trace, bad luck my dude. 

I just never attached to Marnie I suppose, but I can understand that she is important to those who are invested in her. I am about to fully rag on Marnie, so please skip if that makes you upset. 

 I am going to hurt a lot of people when I said I never liked Marnie. She was always just... like why do people like her so much?? I feel like most people like her because she is ‘funny haha goth gf’ which, fair I suppose. I just think she is super lacking as a rival, she makes no real impression as an actual character, and I think if you removed her from the game it wouldn’t make a difference. Don’t want to be that guy, but I AM that guy right now. I suppose she has a cute design?? and that’s it. Again, I am really biased when it comes to SWSH and rivals, so I suppose she really got the short end of the stick with me.

#I am very big on Pokémon rivals — y’know — Pokémon being my favourite thing and all (and Byakuya <3) #but yeah #former VGC player here?? 12 years of experience! (which is nothing compared to others but y’know — I have a lot of biases since I’ve been- #-playing since I was 4.

"An excuse! Bud... I'm just sick, Dan excuse wilb ondly make id worsde." Kara whined as she tried to reach for the phone again.

"No it won't. We just told him that you have wild food poisoning and are throwing up as we speak. It sounds a lot better than just a cold."

"Jusb a cold. This a Krypdoniand cold, dose are mega worsde. It's den million colds at once." Kara groaned, swiveling her head dramatically. Then she sat up.

"Whab about you! Your fake job," She cried.

Mon-el brushed a stray hair out of her face, a smile creeping on his face as he looked at her. Even though her skin was ashen, her usually bouncy blonde curls were limp and stringy and her eyes were bloodshot and her nose was as stuffed up as a Build a Bear, she was cute.

She cared about his job, she cared what her boss would think. That was true determination and loyalty. Just generally niceness. That was Kara. She may be an alien, but she could fit as the girl next door any day of the week. She was just so optimistic and cheerful, it was one of the best things he liked about her.

In fact that was why he volunteered to help stay with her today. He didn't really know how to take care of a sick person but he googled it so it seemed easy.

Now Kara was a grown woman, but she was practically useless when she was sick, physically not able to get out of bed useless, and that usually put a damper on getting lunch herself or getting dress or getting tissues when she ran out.

Alex was going to do it, but once Mon-el heard he volunteered. And insisted that Alex go do her job and he would take care of her.

Lately Mon-el had been thinking a lot about Kara. A lot. She would creep up into his mind and random parts of the day even if she wasn't in the room.

He would stare at daffodils and think "Kara would love those. The first sign of spring. What did she call them? Oh right, cups of sunshine in bloom."

To a regular person that would be cheesy but that was just Kara.

He would watch tv shows and suddenly a particular line would pop up and he would be tempted to write it down so he could tell her later.

Yeah, he had to admit it. He got it bad for the Kryptonian.

But he couldn't admit it TO her.

She was just so strong and caring and yes, that might be her point of weakness. She would care too much. And when people fell in love, those feelings only amplify and then she would be protective of him this way and that and then there would be the whole "it's not you, it's my enemies." He was aware of the danger. It still didn't mean he could get over his feelings just like that.

Especially when she sounded like that.

"I'm gonna make you some food. You stay here and start getting better." Mon-el told her. Kara did what she was told and buried her head under the pillow without a second thought.

When Mon-el came back from the kitchen, Kara had fallen off the bed, and was staring dazedly at the wall.

"Mon-el. Fuddy ting. I can'd ged up." Kara said. He could swear the stuffiness was getting worse.

He placed the bowl of piping chicken soap on the dresser and swept her up in an army lift. He gently placed her into bed, rearranged the pillows, and pulled the blanket over her again, and made sure the tissue box was close by.

"Here some soup." He handed the bowl to her and she grinned happily.

"Danks" She took a slurp of it and spewed it across the bed, coughing violently.

"Sorry! I didn'd mean do!" Kara cried, she got off the bed and was about to start wiping the blanket when she dizzily fell again.

"Kara, you rest, I got it." Mon-el said, he lifted her again and walked her to the couch in the living room.

"Sorry," she muttered again.

"No it's not your fault. Your sick. Just relax, watch some tv"

He went back to the room, stripped the sheets and managed to wrangle up some new blankets in the back of her closet.

"Danks for all dis. Really. You could be doing domthing more udful or fun than be with me." Kara blew her nose in a tissue when he handed her the box

"It's my pleasure. You do so much for everyone, and for me. It's not a big deal to care for you" Mon el replied

"Dupergirl does do a lot of duff for everyone," Kara said.

"And Kara Danvers does too." Mon-el said as he sat next to her "She makes me happy, she brightens the workroom everyday and tries to see the best in things. I really like her."

Kara blushed, and hid her face behind her blanket. James froze, did he just admit his crush? More importantly, one of the most dreaded scenarios of this whole conversation was that she was just being Kara. She was nice to everyone including him. He was no different than Winn or Cat to her. Okay maybe he was step up from being Cat in her eyes but still.

"I really like you doo," Kara mumbled shyly. Mon el' heart skipped a beat.

Mon-el put his arm around her to adjust the blanket, and she leaned his head on his shoulder.

Soon she fell asleep but he just sat there contently and grinned like an idiot.

"She likes me. "Mon-el thought "She said she REALLY likes me. She'll probably be sick tomorrow so I should probably bring her daffodils just to cheer up. Oh and I could rent a movie. Has she seen that ER show yet? Oh and some super hot fudge. Yeah, tomorrow's sick is gonna be great!"

No way had Mon-el thought that in his days of taking care of a sick Kara that he would get sick himself.

But here he was, in bed, freezing, his throat burning me nose so clogged up that everything he said was filled with ds and his hearing felt like he was underwater the whole time.

In Daxam the closest thing to this was the daily headache of a hangover from the late night parties. In all honesty he was pretty sure his parents wouldn't allow him to be sick on account of being ruler and all that.

He wished he could just have those hangovers now. Actually he wished for some water because his threat was not only burning but felt like a little porcupine was scratching it as well.

Then he heard the door bell ring.

"Mon-el can I come in?" A sweet voice that reminded Mon el of a angel in his sick state.

"Yeuhh" Mon-el managed to cough out.

Kara walked in. Pristine and near as usual in her cardigan and glasses. Her hair perfectly curl and seemed so soft. Mon el really liked the smell of her hair. Well, if he could smell. He remembered what it smelled like though. Like fresh apples. Wholesome and good like Kara.

"Jew divil women. Jour are dill tryin' do kill me" Mon-el mock glared when he was seized by another harsh sneeze making his threat burn more.

Kara simply shook her head as she started to take out a soup container from her bag.

"We don't know how colds affects Dazims" Mon-el groaned "Dis could kill me."

"I'm here to make sure that doesn't happen." Kara said as she opened the container, "So I made this for you."

Mon-el gave hr an genuine smile. This was the Kara he admired. Someone so willing to do things for others from saving the world to giving soup to him.

Mon-el eagerly grabbed the container, but another sneeze took him and he spill some of the hot soup on his sweat pants.

Mon-el barely concealed how much he wanted to scream with what he hoped was a manly grunt.

"Oh oh I'll take care of that" Kara quickly grabbed the tissues and dabbed at the spill. "I'll just give it you."

Mon-el cocked his head questioningly until he realized that she meant to spoon feed him.

He didn't understand why he felt so nervous about it. Maybe it was the way Kara looked at him as she put the warm soup in his mouth. Caring, focused only on him wth those piercing, kind grey eyes.

"Tank you" he croaked

Kara put a finger to his lips and Mon-el noticed even though most of his senses were dulled he could feel how smooth her skin was.

"Rest your voice."

"Bud I like talkging with jew. Jour indersing,” He smiled.

Kara turned away but Mon-el could see her bite her lips as the end of her lip curled into a half-smile.

Mon-el smiled to himself. He still had his charm. Plus he had meant what he said. She was interesting. She was bubbly, and entertaining. But she also wasn't afraid to tell him he was wrong. While that was infuriating and annoying, it also intrigued him. Years of being with complimentary bimbos made him forget that some girls were headstrong.

And Kara was plenty headstrong. She had personality. That personality made her seem full of life and vigor. And he wanted to have her next to him and feel that vigor. She was so..so complex. As Supergirl she seemed industrictable, almost unattainable but here right now. She was pure and genuine. He wanted all of it.

"You're interesting too," Kara replied.

With those words, Mon-el felt like he had been given the greatest compliment. She thought he was interesting! No one at home ever thought he was interesting. Pretty, hot, fun usually came up. But interesting never.

Mon-el finished his soup so Kara started arranging his blankets, and started a movie. "Hope you don't mind, but I thought you need to see the greatest movie of all time."

"Stard Ward" Mon-el guessed. Winn kept going on and on about how awesome Star Wars was. And it was. It had so much action and drama and even some of the planets were realistic for a human movie.

"No." Kara chirped, “The Princess Bride. I think you'll really like Ingio."

Mon-el shrugged and settled closer to the blonde. He felt hotter with her body heat next to him. It was tempting to move away but he didn't want to. She may be hot as hell but her prescnce was also comforting and warm and soft.

Mon-el dazedly opened his eyes to see moon light streaming through his windows and that the night sky was alight with the flashing lights of buildings.

"Whad happened?"

Kara leaned over him, her blonde hair brushing against his cheek. "You conked out during the commercials and it's eleven."

"Oh sstorry?" Mon-el murmeered

"It's fine." Kara smiled at him, "We can see it another time. You looked cute asleep." Then she paused and blushed as if she hadn't meant to say that last part.

Mon-el was too happy about that to tease her. "Jou lookd cute lasd week doo."

Kara put her hand to his forehead and smiled at him once more. "You're less hot. So you're probably be better soon. And not going to die." Kara added

"Good." Mon-el said "But I'm glad jou were here with me if I did."

"Me too." Kara whispered softly, "I better go now. But I'll stop by tomorrow."

"Okday" Mon-el waved as Kara left his room.

He settled himself to sleeping position once more, utterly beaming with happiness at spending an afternoon with Kara and being called cute by Kara. Kara, Kara, Kara. That was all he could think of. He never felt this way about a women before. Then again, he never met a women like her before.

The door cracked open and Kara scutler back in adorably. "Sorry just wanted to make sure you had all the blankets on you. Okay, good. Sorry. Go back to sleep, I'll see you tomorrow."

Mon-el managed to wave goodbye as the mild manner reporter went away, "I'll be waiting."

Anyways so you found this really funny post with some screenshots of his recent live (which was at like midnight...and Chan was pretty tired...you love memes, you had to take advantage of him)

man, people are just so talented. i wanna share the good reads with all of ya’ll, so im making a lil rec list! i’ve included rating, main ship (but many are not ship-centric), any aplicable TWs, title, author, and what i liked :) these are all bnha, but i will make a non-bnha list soon too

★ A Demolition boy & his Cryptid BF - kewltie (T | bakudeku) ngl i was kinda iffy to read this at first. the idea just didn’t appeal to me as i don’t usually like youtuber AUs. but BOY am i glad i read this!! it’s so freaking funny and cute, and also super well formatted. that last thing is mega important because i cant STAND badly formatted social media fics, but this was so clean looking and streamlined. i just super loved it 

★ Sonata for Two - Ohiknowlotsofthings10 (G | tododeku) OH MY GOD. this really just hit all the spots mmm it was so incredible! i absolutely adore music AUs because im a musician, but i’ve literally never seen anything about classical or instrumental/orchestral music. i absolutely love all the description and detail in this. also the dynamics are fucking spot on. basically its cute, well written, and emotional. this was SO GOOD!!

★ Kids - ReminiscentRevelry (NR | no ships) wow this was like the cUTEST THING EVER- ugh, baby class 1A just hits super different. there’s not much else for me to say except that this is absolutely adorable and i may or may not have literally cried from cuteness overload after i read it. dadzawa reigns supreme!

★ a fairytale with a few plot holes - anonymous (E | todobaku | rape/non-con, parent/child incest, child neglect, psychological trauma) this is one of the darkest things ive read in a long time. it’s so incredibly fucked up, but SO incredibly good. like, its obviously very trauma/angst heavy because young shouto is literally getting raped by his dad, but i love angst so... yeah. very fucked up. once we get to the todobaku, i... beyond words. beyond. words. it’s not rushed at all, they have to take their time and work each other through trauma. it’s very beautiful and just... damn. so well written and engaging.

★ lights up and they know who you are - futurehearts (T | kiribaku | non-graphic suicide attempt, discussion of suicide) VERYVERYVERYEVRYEVRYGOOOOOOOOD!! if you’re in the mood for a really, really fucking good future fic, this is like one of my go-tos. i’ve read this so many times - its very engaging. like, once you start reading, you physically can’t stop until it’s done. i so rarely see a well done vulnerable bakugo, but this fic absolutely NAILED IT on the head. marvelous work, beautiful, awesome, lovely.

★ Starlight - gliteringeva (T | dabi(touya)hawks) THIS. THIS RIGHT HERE! this is the fic that got me balls fuckin deep into the actor AU. i feel like its SUCH a hard AU to really do well, and this fic absolutely does that. it’s very, very detailed, but not to the point where it feels like a ‘how to act’ manual instead of a fic. does a greeeeat service to the ‘secret relationships’ trope. it really showcases how complicated that can make a relationship, how it can fuck things up, but that is possible to fix it. just very, very good. like one of my ALL time fave fics EVER. jeez i cant even verbalize it. just... read it. like now. go on. shoo. (also ALL of eva’s dabihawks is just... ugh it has me absolutely gagged. go read it all.)

★ Lessons Learned - Sif (T | familial Best Jeanist and Bakugou | child abuse) yes, this is another one that made me cry. i ABSOLUTELY had zero idea that dadjeans was even a thing. like, no clue. but now im addicted. this is one of the most unexpectedly good reads i’ve ever had - not because i didnt expect to like the writing, but because i didnt expect to like the whole concept lmao. but oh BOY was i proved wrong. this made me feel so many things... i also usually despise the ‘abusive mitsuki’ hc for many, many reasons, but... i couldnt bring myself to hate it here. it was very well done. this fic is just very good, and emotional, and wholesome. if you like family/found family fics this should be at the top of your list.

★ Thus With a Kiss, I Die - DomineeringScarves (T | shinkami) this was the book that inspired me to write how to get a bf. jeez man, idk where to start. this book is so well done. im an absolute feen for Shakespeare and id just gotten into shinkami when i found it, so this was like hitting gold. jeezzzzz. just... so well done. beautiful characterization, wonderful writing, accurate ass dynamics, romance that made me go OH MY GOD... this book has it all. like ALL. ★ I Would Understand - deafmic (T | familial Aizawa and Shinsou | child abuse/neglect) AHHHHHHHHHHHH. that’s the opener to this review. i absolutely adore anything and everything deafmic puts out, and this was no exception. Shinson and Dadzawa are, like, one of my favorite bnha dynamics ever, and this does them SO MUCH JUSTICE!!!! this fic made my cry and smile repeatedly so fast i think my face is deformed. very good fic if you want to Feel Things. shows just how much Shinsou idolizes Aizawa and how in turn Aizawa really cares a lot about him. one of my favorite Shinsou-centric fics of all time.

★ Written in the Stars - Ichesmia (M | shinkami) A Really Very Good band AU. again, im a sucker for well executed music/band AUs, and this was some good ass food. like GOOD ass food. obviously im a sucker for shinkami, and this is the fic that put the nail in the coffin for me. also incredible dynamics, both in and out of relationships. the whole band feels like a big family and it just makes me wahhhhh. i seriously laughed my ass off, cried my eyes out, shit my pants, swooned, sighed, and did everything else while reading this. one of the best shinkami ANYTHING ive ever gotten my hands on. absoLUTELY read it if youre looking for bakusquad as well - the friendship is real in this one. 

I hope you read these and enjoy them as much as I have! Also consider reading the other stuff the authors have to offer - these people are some of the most talented writers ive gotten the pleasure to read from :)

One Bolognese “Nerdshow 2020” pizza, please! - First foreign convention in 2020!

Yesterday me and my girlfriend @aquamoon33​ went for a foreign trip with a van from the Slovenian Anime group Animov’, from the Slovenian coastal capital Koper to the unique three times (comics, videogames [YES!!!] and pop fiction) convention Nerdshow 2020 in Bologna, Italy.

This is the path that we made for that Saturday. Me and my girlfriend had quite a jolly time during the trip with the van to Bologna. It was the first time I actually enjoyed the ride, because I had my newly bought iPod Nano 4 gb (got it only for 20 €!) and we played some Mario Kart 8 Deluxe each on our Nintendo Switches. Time went by very fast.

At the convention! We went there at punctualy 8 a.m. in the morning and came to Bologna at 12.30 p.m. We got ourselves our tickets, which weren’t that cheap (13 € for one day!) and said when we will have to be back at around 4 hours later, at 5 o’clock. Unfortunately, it was strictly forbidden to takes pictures inside of the room(s), therefore, if you want to find out more, just look at their FB page. They have some quite nice photos! When we got inside the convention, we first went through the first, comics zone. There were really a lot of stands and people around! And we were quite impressed by the fact that these stands had past and next generation games (for PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, Gameboy, GBA, Game Gear, Mega Drive, PS1, PS2, Dreamcast and Saturn games). We felt really like home when we went throught the games. And not only that, they also sold old consoles that were used and expensive (160 € for a Dreamcast or 140 € for an NES), but still. they were there! Awesome!

My girlfriend playing Sonic 2 on the Mega Drive. But the level of awesomenes went literally through the roof, when we came to the last section of this convention, namely the games zone. This is what I miss in our Slovenian country! They had ALL of the consoles to try out - from Atari 2600 up until the original Xbox and Playstation! You could just get there, sit down and play whatever game was in. But you could also play the original arcade versions of those games or try out virtual reality stuff. And not only that - the stands that were there were also selling their old/new school games and even used consoles! Heck, they even had some Nintendo Switches with the game Super Smash Bros. Ultimate on it!! This was pure heaven for ourselves!!! ^^

Made quite a lot of kilometers for that day - this place was huge!

Time went by fast, so at 5 p.m. o’clock (actually at 6 p.m., because one of our travelling buddies was taking his time...), we decided to leave the convention and after about 10 p.m., we came back to Koper. Me and my girlfriend were soooo hungry - you just forget to eat when you can play your favourite games - that we went straight to a Mcdonalds store in Koper and ate very well. I got really a bargain of games from that convention. Cool Boarders 3, Test Drive 6 and Ridge Racer Revolution for the Playstation 1, Plok for the SNES, Sonic The Hedgehog 2 for the Master System and Resident Evil 4 for the Gamecube console - everything costed me only 50 Euros! That IS very CHEAP!! Cheap in price, but wholesome in nostalgic memories! There were some games that had a hefty price tag (Super Mario Bros. 3 for the NES for 40 Euros?!) and even some Japanese games (I almost bought Chrono Trigger in the Japanese language by accident, hehe). All in all, it was a really great convention, something you don’t see in Slovenia!

All the great games I got for a very cheap, almost bargain price! But still, there will be some things I will change for next year, when me and my girlfriend are coming back to Nerdshow 2021: 1.) I will drive us both with my car! 2.) We will start very early in the morning (at about 5 or 6 in the morning), so we can get a free parking space! 3.) We will take quite a lot of cash with us, so we can buy ourselves some nice retro consoles.

We will definitely come back, on our own! 9.5/10 The Good: - Very open convention. - Sooo much stands and stores. - Celebrities from Star Wars and Avengers Movies. - Quite a lot of Cosplayers. - A whole square of convention just for games. - Nintendo consoles and games. - Many retro-nostalgic and next generation games.

The Bad: - Knowledge of Italian language and being careful to not buy a Japanese/Italian game - Some quite hefty prices.

Odin/Owain x Corrin Headcanons (that no one asked for) Part 2

This time I’m going to talk about my precious children.  Lots of this is fanfic fodder that I’ll probably never use.  Also, I know Ophelia x Soleil is really popular, and I think it’s a cute ship, but I went with the pairing I made in-game.

Ophelia

She’s 15 when she joins the army.  She is 5 years older than Kana, who is 10 when he joins.

She idolizes her father, but she also looks up to her mother a great deal as well.

She is not a morning person, just like her mom.

She feels pretty inferior to both of her awesome parents.

After they had to leave her in the Deeprealm, Owain and Corrin would visit her together as often as they could.  Once Kana was born, they would visit them both at the same time on an alternating schedule, one parent seeing Kana while the other saw Ophelia.

When Corrin was pregnant with Kana, they went to live in Ophelia’s Deeprealm.  Ophelia remembers this as one of the happiest years of her life.

After Ophelia was born, Corrin really struggled with going back to the army after she was fully recovered from delivery.  She told Owain she wanted to abandon the war and spend the rest of their days in the Deeprealm as a family.  Owain had to be the one to talk her into reason, even though he wanted to do the exact same thing.

They both spent nights crying after they went back to the war.

This only got worse after Kana came along.  Corrin had a bout of postpartum depression thinking about having to leave her children, and worse, to separate them.  She and Owain argued quite a bit during this time, mostly because Corrin was being stubborn.  Owain would usually stomp off for a walk and come back later ready to be supportive and to work things out.

Ophelia still remembers this dark time in her parents’ marriage.

One night, while Corrin was crying while feeding Kana, Ophelia came to her mother to comfort her.  She explained that she understood why they had to leave her, why she needed to stay safe, and she was sure that if Kana could talk, he would say so too.

This knocked Corrin out of her depression and helped her decide to go back.

They both still cried some nights, though, and they snuck away more often than some of the other parents in the camp.

They brought the kids together for their respective birthdays.

When Ophelia was 10 and Kana was 5, Owain and Corrin brought Kana to visit Ophelia one July, and they stayed for the whole month, celebrating both Owain and Corrin’s birthdays and spending time with the children together.

Ophelia is a little clumsy, and like her father, sometimes her rituals don’t always go according to plan.

She daydreams a lot, usually while stargazing.  She’s a bit of a night owl, which is why she doesn’t like mornings.  She prefers tea in the morning instead of coffee like her mother.

Once, Ophelia slept in bed with her parents, and in the morning when Owain brought them coffee/tea in bed, he commented (with dramatic flair) on their matching bedhead and grumpy expressions.

Her hair is also thick and hard to manage (a combination trait from both parents).  Owain struggled with brushing it when she was younger, to the point that Corrin had to take over because he was useless at it.  It’s why she keeps it pretty untamed in the present.

Ophelia often tries to see if she can wield Yato, but she says it feels like it’s rejecting her every time she picks it up. (This is actually canon, from her conversation with Corrin as her mother in the Japanese-only Hoshido Festival of Bonds DLC.)

She turns to Owain if she wants to talk about battle, magic, attack names, etc.  She turns to Corrin to talk about secrets, like crushes, insecurities, hopes, etc.

She has the Brand of the Exalt.  It’s on the inside of her right arm, midway between her wrist and elbow.

After Kana turned into a dragon and joined the army, Corrin gave Ophelia a dragonstone to keep with her, “just in case.”  Some time after, in a particularly dire battle, Corrin and Ophelia were separated from Owain and Kana on the battlefield, and they were cornered by a group of enemies.  Ophelia transformed into a dragon for the first time in defense of her mother.  Corrin was scared at first that Ophelia wasn’t in control, but then Ophelia returned to normal and showed her the dragonstone, which she considered the most precious of all her gems.

After this, Owain was mopey for a few days before finally confessing to Corrin that he was depressed he couldn’t be a cool dragon too like the rest of them.

Ophelia carries a torch for Percy, Arthur’s son, who is two years younger than her (13 to her 15).  She likes that he too appreciates the importance of attack names like she and her father.  She told her mother about this but swore her to secrecy, even (and especially) from Owain.

Kana

He’s 10 years old, the youngest of the children in the army.

He works twice as hard compared to most of the other children because he wants to be respected.  Most people, his parents included, still see him as a child, though, much to his annoyance.

He’s left-handed (even though he’s right-handed in the game, shhh).

He loves and admires his mother, but he also absolutely adores his Papa.

After joining the army, he started trying to talk like his beloved Papa, just like his sister.  Kana’s speeches are much stiffer, though, mostly because he’s not used to speaking that way and his vocabulary still isn’t as varied.  Owain loves this.  (This is also technically canon, from the same Bonds DLC.)

He also has the Brand of the Exalt, in nearly the same spot as Ophelia’s on his left arm.  It appeared one day after he’d joined the army, but he didn’t really note any significance about its sudden appearance.  Owain discovered it about a week later when the two of them took a bath together.  Kana was very casual about it, “Oh yeah, that just kind of appeared there about a week ago.  It’s neat, huh?”  Owain was speechless.

After both kids ended up with the Brand, Corrin and Owain decided to tell the kids about Papa’s history.  Both kids were fascinated that their father came from another world, and they both say they’d like to see it some day.  After this, Corrin used his real name around the kids, too.

Kana asked afterward if that makes him and Ophelia “mega-royal” since they’re related to so many royal families (Hoshido, Nohr, Valla, and Ylisse).

Kana gets along with just about everyone, but his two closest friends are Percy and Kiragi, probably because the two are closer in age to Kana than a lot of the other kids.  The three often play hero games together.  During these games, all 3 boys mirror their fathers to a degree, Kiragi and Percy choosing to be an archer and a hero (respectively), but Kana chooses to be a dragon who talks exactly like Owain.  Owain witnessed one of their games once and went running to gush at Corrin all about it.

One time Kana remarked that “Sometimes my sword hand gets all twitchy” and Owain squealed like a fangirl.

He was elated when Ophelia discovered she could be a dragon, too.  He spent the next few days giving her tips on fighting as a dragon, and he often asks her if she’ll go practice transforming with him.

He often goes to his parents’ room at night and asks to sleep with them.  He’s just as much a cuddler as his parents, but he flops around a lot in his sleep.

He once let Owain ride on his back while he was in dragon form.  Corrin never allowed him to do it (“I’m not a horse, Owain.”), so Owain asked his son, who was happy to oblige.  Corrin found them galloping around in a field, Owain wielding a stick like a sword and bantering.  She fussed at him for treating his son like an animal, but Kana protested that he didn’t mind.  He even said he’d love to go into battle with his Papa like that someday.  Owain looked hopefully at his wife, whose glare destroyed his dreams.

Kana is an early riser, like his father.  He often runs into Owain on his morning run to the mess hall for coffee.

As Siblings

Ophelia and Kana are very close, since they saw each other a couple times while they were growing up.

Kana looks up to Ophelia a lot.  He thinks her Missiletain tome is super cool, and he often practices introductions with her.

They practice fighting as dragons together a lot and go on patrols together.

They rarely fight, and when they do, it’s about trivial things.

They often go stone collecting together.  Ophelia names them all for him, and Kana is super impressed with her skills at naming.

As a Family

One time Corrin came down with a cold, and Owain and the children pitched in to take over her schedule running the camp while she was sick.

They spend time together as a family a lot.  Owain regularly tells his children stories in their private quarters.  He often makes Corrin act them out with him.

Sometimes Corrin catches all 3 of them talking dramatically, and she thinks they’re so cute and hilarious that she can’t contain her feelings about it.  She ends up wrecking the moment because she’s laughing so much and then hugs all of them.

Both Ophelia and Kana think they have the best parents ever.  Corrin and Owain think their kids are the best, too.  They are a very wholesome family.

SLBP: “Riot of the Heart” Shingen+Inuchiyo+Mitsunari Reviews [SPOILERS]

This is Part 2 of my review of SLBP’s crazy Riot of the Heart event, where pairs of warlords encounter each other in unexpected situations! Part 1 here.

This event featured the reunion of Shingen and Kojuro, my two favorite smut lords! Tragically, there were no Shingen/Kojuro/MC threesomes in this route. ;) So the story begins with a chance encounter between Shingen and Kojuro at the onsen. It’s not sexually charged at all. (​Shingen laughs pleasantly, raking his gaze over Kojuro. ... ​With his gloriously naked body on full display, Shingen climbs out of the bath and leaves Kojuro to his own devices.) After Kojuro helps MC with her sandal strap the next day, Shingen strong-arms politely invites Kojuro to stay at ​Tsutsujigasaki Castle for a while, to the temporary shock of his clan (since he’s the enemy and all). Kojuro settles in nicely, getting along with everyone and even helping out with some day-to-day minutiae. He’s bemused by the...differences in leadership style, shall we say, between the mega-charismatic, slightly micromanage-y Shingen and his own antisocial boss, Masamune. In any case, this whole saga turns out to be a long-shot recruitment pitch (on Shingen’s end), and an opportunity to observe the enemy (on Kojuro’s end). It’s also a bit of a reunion, because the two met long ago, as children. Ultimately, Kojuro’s loyalty to Masamune unsurprisingly prevails, and the pair part on good terms (after Kojuro makes a half-hearted attempt to advertise Masamune to MC, lol).

Given how unabashedly smutty my impression of Shingen is, I was honestly a little surprised by how PG this story was! But regardless, I enjoyed it. Shingen and Kojuro make an awesome duo, and this route honestly made me a little sad that we can’t just have all the warlords getting along all the time in SLBP, haha. I could listen to the warlords praise each other forever. (​“There is something about that man that makes you want to follow him to the ends of the earth...of that I have no doubt.” - K)

The brawny men pair up in the next route, featuring Inuchiyo and Yukimura! This story takes place in Kyoto. Yukimura’s in town to fight in the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC?). MC first meets him when he scares away the perpetually annoying magistrate. Later that night, Inuchiyo runs into him randomly at a bar. Several hours and tons of sake later, and they’re lifelong buddies. Their differing life philosophies cause tension though: Yukimura has a suicidal dream of dying gloriously in battle, while Inuchiyo fights for survival. They duke it out over MC’s Absolute Victory Bowls, as well as in a symbolic fight at the UFC (“I want you to live!”). The fight ends in a draw, but in the end, it’s implied that while Yukimura remains battle-hungry as ever, he’ll be a little more keen on survival from now on. After hilariously mistaking MC to be Inuchiyo’s sister, Yukimura heads back to Kai, and MC and Inuchiyo share a brief and wholesome moment that ends...in a kiss. Scandalous. ;)

Both these guys seems super nice and relatively normal, so this was overall a pleasant read! I can’t blame Yukimura too much for mischaracterizing MC and Inuchiyo’s relationship though. After all, aside from MC’s internal monologuing about his manly good looks/strength, their relationship doesn’t appear to be super sexual. And Inuchiyo, like Shang from Mulan, isn’t exactly the slickest with words: ​“When I think about my own death, I worry what would happen to you so much I feel sick. You'd probably sob like an idiot...” It’s endearing - especially since he clearly cares for MC a lot. :) Overall, I enjoyed the slice-of-life, apolitical feel of this particular story!

To counter the overly charismatic Shingen-Kojuro matchup, the final event pairing features the two grumps Mitsunari and Masamune. Long story short, Mitsunari’s been sent by Hideyoshi to visit Oshu for a few days. M1 and M2 hilariously get off on the wrong foot after a tense nonverbal fight over the same book in an antique bookstore, but they quickly (yet silently) bond over their antisocial nerdery - at Mitsunari’s welcoming feast, while everyone else is happily getting drunk and chatting away, might I add. Over the next few days, they teamwork to convince the antique bookstore owners not to close shop, eat MC’s food, and exchange books with each other, multiple times, like schoolchildren (​“Only because I finished reading it already.” -Mitsunari). In the end, a strong bond of introversion is formed, and the visit concludes happily.

So...here’s the thing. I think Masamune’s antisocialness is endearing, esp. since he seems to be such a misunderstood sweetheart (just started his route). But Mitsunari? Mitsunari comes across as a socially stunted asshole who behaves like a dick just because he’s allowed to. And while he’s grumpily kind to MC at times, he mostly seems to just drag her from place to place, and he and MC don’t seem to have much chemistry, physical or otherwise (​“What are you standing there grinning for? We’re going to sleep.”). Also, I don’t like his outfit. I have no idea if Mitsunari has more endearing qualities in his main route, but in any case, I personally think this route would’ve been much more enjoyable from Masamune’s perspective, since the storyline itself was pretty cute! PS Kojuro really needs to stop seducing me in routes that aren’t his... it’s becoming a problem. :’D

Overall Shingen rating: 9/10. No smut (which is shocking b/c Shingen), but still very good!

Overall Inuchiyo rating: 8/10. Inuchiyo and Yukimura are freaking adorable!

Overall Mitsunari rating: 6/10. Super cute storyline, terrible romance.

It's got a bit of everything for everyone, too! From trading verbal blows with the princess-like tsundere, to reading books with The Purple One, to being the voice of reason for the bright colorful one everyone loves, to even spending some wholesome quality time with the mom friend! ...or, y'know, hang with the fighter girl. She's nice too! And also my favorite.{

How HEYBOT! Broke All The Rules Of Shows Designed To Sell You Toys

There's something vaguely dishonest about kids cartoons designed to sell toys. It's not that these shows can't be good -- PreCure and Gundam are two hugely popular franchises even among adults for a reason -- but they always exist within the same specific framework: Advances happen not because they make sense from a character or narrative perspective, but because the merchandising department demands it. Sure, the Super Mega Robot turning into the Super Mega BLASTER Robot might have helped push the plot along, but it also helps to push more Super Mega Blaster Robot toys off the shelf. 

  And while adults might be able to see the manipulative aspects of these series, kids can't. All they see is how cool it looks, and that they could own it. The deception is such an ingrained part of this breed of show that it's hard to imagine what an upfront version of it might look like. Luckily, we don't have to, as HEYBOT! exists.

    On a surface level, HEYBOT! is a show about Prince Nejiru, who is obsessed with something called Vocascrews (which are all available for sale) and his Vocabot partner Heybot (also available for sale) who loves a snack called Imochin (again for sale). Vocabots can use combos of Vocascrews to perform surreal gags based primarily around really bad puns (this is exactly what the toys do) which they use to compete. It's an ad for the merch in an unusually direct fashion, and it's not even slightly subtle about it - especially because the fourth wall doesn't exist. When other shows settle for showing you cool things that you just happen to be able to buy, HEYBOT! flat-out says, "Hey! This is a thing you can buy in real life! Isn't that neat?" Which is both shockingly blunt and strangely honest.

  More importantly, though, the presentation of HEYBOT! is deliberately anarchic to the point of bordering on Dadaism. FLCL at its most frenetic might be the best mainstream comparison, but HEYBOT! never turns off, and it's got a lot more fart jokes and gross faces and awful puns to boot. Characters switch between iterations of themselves with little rhyme or reason. Background characters are bizarre monstrosities. References range from fairly mainstream (Evangelion, Your Name) to absolutely incomprehensible for a Japanese kid's cartoon (Terror at 30,000 Feet, The Shadow Over Innsmouth).

  The lack of a fourth wall means it's virtually impossible to tell what's actually happening in-universe and what's only perceptible to the viewers. The last episode involves HEYBOT! getting canceled for being an atrocity and replaced by a boring, wholesome version of itself. It's nonsense, pure and simple -- 50 episodes of the creators throwing every dumb idea they had all the wall to see what stuck.

    It doesn't even seem to want to sell you on the merch, honestly. In most shows, where the toys are in-show items (like Precure), the people using them are cool and admirable, the type a viewer would look up to and want to emulate. Not so for HEYBOT! Nejiru is lazy and entitled, and his fixation with screws comes across less as an Ash Ketchum "Gotta Catch 'Em All!" and more as some kind of bizarre fetish -- and not just because "screw" is a euphemism in English, it's clearly very deliberate. You do not want to be like Nejiru.

  There's a whole cadre of secondary cast members who have vowed to supplant him as protagonist -- that's how bad he is. It's the same with Imochin -- despite it being the official tie-in snack, the degree to which Nejiru and Heybot stuff their faces with it swings past making it look delicious and on to being kind of disgusting. This is the heart of HEYBOT! -- it might be obliged to sell things, but it's going to go about it in the most chaotic way imaginable.

  The best example of this might be the episode with Sofbit -- a soft vinyl version of Heybot that's smaller than the original and doesn't have moving parts. The moral winds up being "you don't have to be jealous of others, because there are people who will love you for what you are" if you're being generous, or "just cause the soft vinyl Heybot toy doesn't have as many features doesn't mean you shouldn't buy it" if you're not, but the way it gets there is absolutely wild for a kids cartoon. Sofbit attempts to murder the original by pushing him into a trash compactor and takes his place (Nejiru is incapable of telling the difference between them, because he is an idiot), only for Heybot to be saved by a group of knockoffs that gladly consign themselves to death. It ends with Heybot and Sofbit reconciling and declaring that all Heybots are genuine -- except the knockoffs, obviously.

    Or maybe the best example is the introduction of the new shiny piece of merch, Awesome Fine Screw. Unlike most screws in the show, which are just solid pieces of plastic, Awesome Fine Screw talks, lights up, has buttons you can press, and apparently feels so amazing to get screwed by that there's an entire episode dedicated entirely to every major character trying to get him to stick it in. Because why settle for something being merely appealing in-universe when you could make everyone so obsessed with it that it gets kind of weird?

    There are genuinely good merch-driven cartoons that manage to work within the assigned framework to create something thoughtful, earnest, and poignant -- Go! Princess Precure and Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans, for instance. HEYBOT!, on the other hand, can't be called "good" by any conventional meaning of the word. But it's also strangely brilliant -- rather than simply being a show made to sell toys, the show itself is an interrogation of the very concept of a show made to sell toys. The toys know they're toys and the characters know they're characters, so of course they wind up vying for screentime. The overblown, almost sarcastic way the toys and tie-ins are presented as desirable not only makes it perfectly clear that yes, this is an ad, but it might even serve as a deterrent to buying them.

  After all, do you want to be like Nejiru, salivating over screws? Or Heybot, shoveling Imochin into his mouth? How about joining Awesome Fine Screw's harem? The mere idea of a show designed around getting kids to buy things is ridiculous, says HEYBOT! (which is totally available on Crunchyroll.) Let's see how ridiculous it can get.
