I really enjoyed this article! Super motivational. Here are my fav thoughts:
It's easy to fall into the trap of swinging at every single opportunity that comes your way. Early on in your career, it might even be productive taking on more opportunities can expand your luck surface area. But as you progress, it's critical to become deliberate about which opportunities you choose to take on.
View free time in your schedule as call option for future interesting opportunities.
In the long run, life doesn’t reward you for the number of swings you take, it rewards you for your outcomes.
"Time is the friend of the wonderful business, the enemy of the mediocre."
Invested vs. Spent Test: Time is either *invested* or *spent*. Invested time—actions that compound. Spent time—actions that don’t. When choosing what to do, prioritize investing time, not spending it.
You either invest your time in something meaningful or you spend it and waste. Be mindful how to spend your time. Focus on creating and less on consuming content.
the most successful people in the world don't necessarily create the best opportunities—they simply create the most effective value capture out of the opportunities they create.
Think about your value capture more deeply as you pursue new opportunities and ideas. You won't regret it.
Learn to step away—take a walk, turn off your phone, whatever it takes to separate yourself physically and emotionally from a situation.
You have to learn to do your own work and come to your own decisions.
You can't rely on others. You have to develop your own maps.
World changers don't win by playing every game. They win by only playing games they are uniquely well-suited to win.

“In the war film, a soldier can hold his buddy—as long as his buddy is dying on the battlefield. In the western, Butch Cassidy can wash the Sundance Kid’s naked flesh—as long as it is wounded. In the boxing film, a trainer can rub the well-developed torso and sinewy back of his protege—as long as it is bruised. In the crime film, a mob lieutenant can embrace his boss like a lover—as long as he is riddled with bullets.
Violence makes the homo-eroticism of many “male” genres invisible; it is a structural mechanism of plausible deniability.”
–Tarantino’s Incarnational Theology: Reservoir Dogs, Crucifixions, and Spectacular Violence. Kent L. Brintnall.

I'm sure someone has said this before but...
I think it would be really funny if Scarecrow fear-gassed Tim and just, like... nada. Red Robin keeps walking right towards him, no mask for the toxins, just breathing it in, and beats Scarecrow's sorry ass back into Arkham.
Crane is panicking: what went wrong with the gas? Was it sabotaged? Have the bats figured out how to metabolize it somehow? Is Red Robin not a human? What is going on???
Meanwhile, in the Batcave, everyone is asking Tim how he did it, and he's like, "um. I didn't get gassed? Like, I was having a trauma-induced hallucinogenic episode, don't get me wrong! I saw loved ones dying everywhere; Bruce hating me; failing at everything I do because I'm not actually smart, just lucky... the usual. But it wasn't Scarecrow's doing. That just happens."
And then a minute later he's like, "although that hallucination did have a lot of spiders in it... holy shit, I might have been fear-gassed."

Failure should punctuate a strong track record A rich person says, “I struggled a lot. Now, I’m here doing this cool thing.”
A broke person says, “I struggled a lot. Actually I’m still struggling.”
One makes you think, “What a rags to riches story. I’m so inspired.” The other makes you feel sad. You don’t want to be vulnerable at the expense of your ultimate goal, which at work, is generally about inspiring confidence in your abilities—so your startup gets funded, so you get hired, so your manager trusts you more.
Let’s say you’re a candidate interviewing for roles. Over-emphasizing failure makes you seem like a risky hire. The hiring manager thinks, Wow, I appreciate that they shared this, but it was kind of a poor judgment call, they missed obvious signs, and the expensive mistake probably could have been avoided altogether. Maybe we should pick another candidate who has better judgment. Failure can be perceived as a pattern match or a pattern break. Startups have to tow the line between simultaneously playing up aspects that make them the underdog (because they’re clearly not Google and can’t hide this) AND playing up that they are proven, trusted, the go-to, reliable, stable, etc (elements of the favorite) so customers are willing to take a chance. If you’re the challenger, not the default, you’re already deemed risky. When in doubt, show why you're the winning team to counterbalance.
People want to read about your failures if they deem you a success. If you’re talking about failure, remember to share a few points of credibility, so you give folks a reason to want to learn from you. If you're going to share widely-make sure you're sharing from your scars, not your open wounds. Love Warrior is intensely personal, but it's not a diary.
I started turning it into a memoir two years after it all happened, and I had enough distance to look at all of it somewhat objectively.
If you’re still in the midst of struggle, talking about your failure can look like a cry for help. And most companies don’t want to hire a content marketer or product manager who seems like they’re in the middle of crisis.

i just watched scott's session 7 and noticed a pattern: every single person forgot about grian.
grian hasn't been caught yet, cleo and scott establish. barely a minute later, scott is leading cleo and bigb by the hands to his secret spot and saying "i think we're the last three." like the name has slipped right out of his hands.
as etho tells the other zombies that no, actually, he doesn't want to kill cleo, it occurs to him suddenly. "actually, i kind of want grian to succeed on this, don't i? he's my teammate," he says, not like he doesn't care for grian, but like he's shocked he even forgot in the first place. (seconds later, he lifts his gaze to the sky, and he sees where grian is hiding. he's the only one who sees. he carries this secret with him as he watches grian run, an apology of sorts; sorry I forgot. I hope this makes it better.)
but it got me thinking: this is what grian does, isn't it? even since 3rd life, where he hid in the shadow of scar, whose face was always, always in the light, as he burrowed under doorways, covered in redstone and days-old blood. no one thinks of him as scar sells them the coffins grian will put them in.
grian has mastered the art of becoming nothing. he's so nothing, in fact, that his presence glances off the skin of even his friends. his name slips away from them. he disappears time and time again, falling through their fingers like sand. there are brief moments: "where's grian?" someone asks, but their blood is boiling and their fingers are itching. the image is a mirage and the sand crumbles at their fingertips. it's gone as soon as it comes; back to cleo, green cleo, uninfected cleo.
a reminder, perhaps from the universe itself. he is nothing but a ghost of a memory, a whisper of a promise. this is by design. the universe is telling him this, as it strings grian up limb by limb: you were only ever meant to watch.
