1. My Liberation Notes

About: Three siblings, exhausted by the monotony of day to day adulthood, seek to find fulfillment and freedom from their unremarkable lives

Honestly, no one did it like My Liberation Notes. The way they captured the mundane lives of adults, the longing for happiness, freedom, and the loneliness of it all. The way they depicted all that through raw lines, monologues, and even silence that gave even deeper meanings. To say I love this show is an understatement 🥺

2. Extraordinary Attorney Woo

About: Woo Young Woo, a woman on the spectrum that tackles challenges as a newbie at a top law firm

This show is popular for a reason. It has everything you could ask for in a kdrama: feel good vibes, heartwarming stories, heart-fluttering love, found family, and interesting characters (with brilliant acting). Although we couldn't expect Woo Young Woo to be representative for all people with autism (since autism is considered as a spectrum), but I love the way her portrayal in this show was educative while also really fun to watch 🤍

3. Twenty Five Twenty One

About: In a time where dreams seem out of reach, a teen fencer pursues her ambitions and meets a hardworking young man who seeks to rebuilds his life.

Couldn't express how much it's comforting to watch the two main characters build connection in the pursuit of happiness. The fact that these two people share different perspectives in life (one was hopeful & optimistic, while the other one was realistic) was its charm. Not to mention the growing bond of the friendship between them and their friends. Together, they make every scene seemed refreshing and entertaining to watch. It was truly an uplifting youth show that brightened last year's atmosphere ✨

4. Alchemy of Souls

About: A powerful sorceress in a blind woman's body encounters a man from a prestigious family, who wants her help to change his destiny.

Love, love the world building of this one! Also, the gripping love stories that took "I'll love every version of you" seriously 🥺. It was captivating how observant every characters in this show were & the way they unfold the stories. Even the action scenes portrayed like an art. Therefore, even though it has many episodes with long duration, I wasn't bored at all.

5. Little Women

About: Three sisters become embroiled in a major incident and face off against the wealthiest family in the nation

The fact that two of my fave actresses (Nam jihyun & Kim goeun) casted in one kdrama was such a dream!! It's a women centric kdrama i could say, from the way the main characters, writer, & director are all women <3. I love that it has such morally grey characters and a story that's full of intriguing misteries. It kept me on the edge of my seat.

6. 20th Century Girl

About: A teen girl has her eyes set on a boy for her lovesick best friend. However, things become complicated when she falls in love and is forced to choose between love and friendship

A heartening youth stories that every fan of 2521 should watch! Again, the plot seemed cliche but it still managed to enthralled you with sweet & fun interactions between the main characters, their growing romance, and what comes for them in the future. It was a rollercoaster of emotion but I really enjoyed it to end <3

7. Business Proposal

About: Hari, a regular employee, shows up to a blind date in disguise of her rich friend to scare him away. Things go awry when he turns out to be her CEO and makes a proposal.

Normally, a kdrama with a cliche plot and some cringe lines wasn't my piece of cake. But Business Proposal is something else I guess. It managed to make even the cliche plot entertaining to watch, still. I didn't expect that I'd laugh this much while watching this show, but I did. Their actings were so fun to watch and it's such a light kdrama that i enjoyed to watch.

Prison Playbook

About: a legendary Korean baseball player whose life change after he chases a man who harasses his sister and finds himself spending a year in prison.

This is such a gem for a slice of life genre! From the director of Hospital Playlist & Reply series, you could expect some heartwarming feels coming from every characters' background stories. Despite the serious & harsh life we could thought of from prison life, this kdrama have many comical scenes, a series of roommates bickering, & such a moving found family. I wish the director would make more of these 🥺🤍

Roderick Strong Primer Part I: The Portion About Personal Connection

[So...I've been jokingly kicking around the idea of doing a series of meta posts on Roderick Strong for a while now. As usual with me, however, one late night conversation with @scissormedaddyass later it no longer stayed a joke.

This will be split into four parts: this one, where I talk about some of my personal experiences concerning his work (and PWG, because I can never get away from that promotion when talking about my faves ever); the second, which will dive into what I know of his history; the third, which will talk about his character arc - yes, even he has one - and finally a match guide, because by God he wrestles real good.

I'm not saying this'll be the most in-depth dive into his character and career in the world (for one I'm gonna miss a lot of early ROH and most NXT things), but until someone else makes one my little offering will have to do. If even just one person comes out of reading this understanding a little better the brainrot I occasionally have for him, then I think I did okay. Content itself under the cut!]

As I am sure absolutely no one who has talked to me about professional wrestling for longer than ten minutes knows, the promotion that made the greatest impact on me in my teen years was 2014 to 2016 Pro Wrestling Guerrilla (PWG). Beginning with night one of the 2014 Battle of Los Angeles that took place on August 29, 2014, I saw most of the shows they put out for a decent stretch, getting off the train after All Star Weekend 12's second night on March 5, 2016. It was there I saw the full potential of my first favorite wrestler, Chuck Taylor; there where I was first exposed to both talented up and comers like Speedball Mike Bailey and veterans like Chris Hero; there where I first saw the work of my favorite wrestler ever, Zack Sabre Jr.

In other words, for nearly two years it was my favorite promotion; as people well know, though, even as late as the mid-2010s it was not very easy to watch, and living half a world away with no credit card to pay for exorbitant shipping meant that to keep up to date I had to get extra creative. Knowing that I definitely wasn't going to be able to attend a live event, I followed what was happening as closely to real time as I could though social media posts, forum threads, and the occasional YouTube clips or official preview. As soon as news of the DVD releases dropped on the company's Twitter, I would Google search through pages of trash results for a couple of minutes every day until I found someone who'd uploaded the actual full event in glorious 240p and immediately watch it—more often than not, I knew, it would make my day.

I'm not saying PWG was perfect (God no). In fact, back then I don't know if, had I been more active in wrestling discussion circles, there would have been a safe space for someone like me. Still, spending all that time and effort to keep up and watch it was a really important time for me as a fan. It opened my eyes to how fun and creative pro wrestling could be, especially with the freedom independent status provided; sure, oftentimes it would be dizzying or even dangerous to give that kind of power to the wrestlers, and they lacked the multiple levels of safety and security that proper contracts provided, but there was just so much sheer entertainment I got from spots and shenanigans that would have never be cleared or work with the constraints of sponsors, copyright, or other corporate concerns. Making to suck your opponent's dick in the middle of the ring? An invisible remote that magically makes everyone, including the chanting fans, act in slow-mo? "The legendary asshole of Jushin Thunder Liger"? All hilarious, all fondly remembered. There's a reason that for years my top wrestling dream was to attend a show in Reseda—a dream that'll never be realized, but the Globe Theatre is a beautiful venue that seems to actually have working AC, so that's nice!

But, as mentioned: after Zack won the PWG title, a result I spoiled for myself via Reddit thread with much screaming, I stopped watching. It wasn't that I was any less interested in it—I was very much excited about the prospect of my boy on top, actually! It was simply that, between the sites I used all getting nuked and not knowing how to torrent, I just couldn't find it anymore. So I fell out of watching PWG, then the American and British indies, then NXT and what little main brand WWE I still watched, and finally I didn't watch much wrestling at all for two years, from 2016 to 2018. I only came back, actually, when I found out where my old fave Zack ended up: this large promotion called New Japan…

But that's a ZSJ story, and (as is hopefully clear from the title of this post) this series isn't about him. Instead, let's set the scene:

On July 29, 2016, two events and about four months after the last PWG I'd been able to watch, Roderick Strong had his last indie date before going to WWE. Having watched it back, the entire sendoff is pretty elaborate: after champion Zack fends off his latest challenger, Kyle O'Reilly, in a grueling 20+ minute match, Roddy comes down to the ring and demands his rematch. What follows is a less than six minutes breakneck fuckfest with several run-ins and foreign object usage; but, of course, Roderick loses. Afterwards, inviting his friends then that night's locker room down to the ring, he makes his speech about how in 2014 (which was, of course, the year I started watching) he'd made a commitment to reinvent himself as a wrestler—a move that ended up contributing to him being signed to NXT after a 15+ year career. He's thankful for everything PWG had given him, though (especially his then-fiance, now-wife Marina Shafir); as he says to cap things off, he loves the crowd, doesn't hate them!

Honestly, I wish I watched just two more events than I actually did back then, because it might have made my path to becoming a fan of Roderick Strong way more flattering to me. Instead, I have to admit: after Zack tapped him out for the belt and Roddy slunk off to the back, and for a long time during and after my two year break…I forgot about him.

It's a bit of an awful thing to say and is, on top of that, admittedly hyperbole; I never dumped anything of him in my brain down the memory hole. What I mean is that he never really came to mind unless I thought about it really hard. Even during my lull period, when people asked me about pro wrestling I could talk about my favorite people and my favorite moments and my favorite matches, and Roderick was never really there in anything more than a passing mention. In my defense, at first it was because I was even more of a massive hipster back then than I am now, and since I knew he was in NXT I assumed that when (not if; those were more innocent days) he'd go up to the main roster and get lots of fans he wouldn't need me vocally being one of them. Sure, he was probably going to be misused and I wasn't really going to watch to find out because this was 2016 WWE, but he'd at least get that money and that fame on Raw or Smackdown. Why wouldn't he? He was fucking Roderick Strong, a fantastic wrestler and someone I didn't realize for years people thought was bland as hell. Surely he'd make it. Surely.

But slowly and steadily he began to fade from my thoughts, until it came to the point that even after I started watching prowres again from 2018 and into the pandemic I didn't talk about him at all—even when I began looking back nostalgically on my time watching PWG.

Then, completely by chance, the week I decided to get back into All Elite Wrestling—I watched for a while in 2019, but lapsed during the pandemic era; it was hard enough to watch one major wrestling company with no crowds, much less two—was the week Roddy Strong debuted there. Buoyed by other people's excitement and name recognition, I felt generically happy watching the clips. "Oh, yeah," I said to myself. "Roderick Strong. What's he been doing for the past few years?" 

(Yes, I completely missed his Undisputed Era period, and was shocked at the belated news that he and everyone else in that faction never officially made it to the main roster. Yes, this also means I mostly know what happened thanks to Drea fighting the good fight with all her Era boys fics. No, I don't think I'm gonna watch his NXT run any time soon, LOL.)

After therefore deciding not to really dive into his recent past, I decided to, for the umpteenth time, think about when I first became familiar with him in that era of PWG…and something funny came about. If you're familiar with the trope called "Once More With Clarity", then that's what honest to God happened: eyes wide and memories superimposed above a shot of the aforementioned eyes at around 50% opacity, I realized that so many of my favorite moments and matches had him there the entire time. Person ZSJ won the belt from? Roddy. One of ZSJ's best matches until that point? When Roddy beat him the first time Zack challenged for the title. Speedball's real coming out party with the Reseda faithful? Them answering Roddy's open challenge at Mystery Vortex. That (in)famous, ridiculously overbooked, ridiculously memorable Guerrilla Warfare match at All Star Weekend 11? The heel aggressors was Mt. Rushmore 2.0, Roddy's faction with the Young Bucks and Adam Cole. Even outside of PWG, I ended up finding out he was involved in several other promotions I followed; I saw him several times in EVOLVE for instance, and what little Ring of Honor I watched Mr. ROH himself was, of course, there as well.

I'm probably forgetting something, but here's what I'm trying to get at: the more I combed through my good memories of pro wrestling the more I realized Roddy'd not only always been there, but that he was a key player in them, not just in matches but in the angles as a whole—and, yes, even promos, his forever dump stat. At the time it was all going on, I just…never really noticed him. And that's the story of much of his career, isn't it (at least in kayfabe)? Always considered an excellent hand, but even when he held the big belt he never seemed or felt like the most important person there.

"Okay," I then said to myself those months ago. "So he's a great wrestler. He's in all these great things I like, wrestling-wise. But who is he, really? Is there enough for me or anyone else to chew on from a character perspective?"

The fact I'm dedicating a four part series to this man, along with all the GIFsets and fanfic I've made, might spoil my answer to that. But for now, brave reader who's actually read all of this (or clever reader who's skipped to the end), stay a little in suspense for a bit if you’d like while I write part two. :')

combinatorics by heyginger. patrick is in luvvv with joe when joe starts online dating during tour, and basically tension and feelings and etc etc ensue. the first time i read it i was like running around my house and squealing out loud and everything bc it's just that perfect, and it really only gets better upon re-reading bc you pick up on little things you didn't notice the first time! the tension and the misunderstandings are, at times, painful and you really feel everything patrick is going through, but it really keeps you on your toes! i feel like the characterization is perfect in this and i just can't get enough. also this is the fic i read to my partner (if you are a true josephtrohman fan and saw the post HAHAHAH), he really enjoyed it and is interested in me reading more of my favs to him bc of it, so it even has the normie stamp of approval ;)

hedonism by rosiedoesfic. patrick is in a toxic relationship with pete, but patrick and joe begin an affair and it leads to a mess of feelings and fighting and etc etc. it's angsty and it hurts and everything like that but god it's also sooo brilliantly written. rosie has this amazing gift of writing the voices so realistically, including and especially the complexities of joe's inner monologue! i mean not that i know joe’s inner monologue irl obviously but it feels so realistic…this fic a punch in the gut to read, and obviously i prefer when fob are like Friends rather than fighting but this fic is insanely beautiful that i can look past that preference of mine lol. one of the fics i've re-read the most because it's been a fave for a long time. so so so heart-achingly GOOD.

thnks fr th knckers by rosiedoesfic. a pair of panties gets thrown on stage at a show, and the floodgates open essentially, with patrick at the centre of it, grappling with finding it hot and also thinking it's weird basically. because of this internal dilemma, the tension (sorry i don't have a better word it's always tension lol) is like soooo perfect, like patrick fighting it but he can't UGHGHBG. it's a little naughty obviously but with some real plot and this is probably the singular fic i've reread the most throughout my life!!! i'm not even normally into panty kink stuff (not a problem with it, it's just something that's never been like a big turn on for me or anything) but this fic is AMAZING.

above are my three favest faves EVER and i go absolutely nutso for them, as you can tell!! i kind of cycle through the three of those for which one i call my all time favourite depending on my mood <3 if you only are interested in reading some of these, PLEASE PLEASE read the above three!!! i could go on forever and ever about them and just really leave this reclist there at those three, but just cuz i loveeee to talk about fic i'll touch on some others

in general, you really can't go wrong with any of rosie's fics!! i've read literally every single joetrick fic she's ever written and all of them are amazing, seriously very much our joetrick queen (hi rosie if you're reading this <3). some specific highlights for me in her catalogue include fairytale of new york (a really neat holidays fic with a hint of magic, i just re-read it the other day even tho it's july and it's so so so good) and technology (another fic written for the same prompt as combinatorics, all about online dating and catching feelings!! ughhhh amazing). i also would be remiss to NOT mention the world's not waiting which has an almost legendary status in joetrick/fob world, and rightfully so bc it's SOOO good and sweeps you away and then you blink and your whole day was spent just reading this fanfic lol...and it's been on a bit of pause BUT rosie has promised she's planning on resuming when she has time so better get to reading it so you're ready whenever there's the next update anon ;)

heyginger's got some other great ones too but there are only i think like 2 other joetrick fics on heyginger's page (both are shorter but SOOOO GOOD - bdsm and good fortune. since they're shorter i'll let the fics speak for themself!)

intensity by likethepaint. perfect lil fic about patrick's temper, or rather, patrick's intensity, and stuff basically, and no further spoilers :) but really good!

there is no natural religion by carleton97. short and a lil smutty, and i'll leave it at that :)

brace yourself and find a safe place by distortedmya. amazing fic about joe coming out as an adult, and it's soooo sweet <3

summer of like by heartofthesunrise. yes it may be the petekey title but it more focusses on j+p with some petekey drama off to the side that ends early on actually if i remember correctly. so dang sweet and the way the writing places you in the ambiance is kind of magical (i first read it in the winter and reading it truly felt like it was summer!)

Ok I really must make a pusher post for New Tales of a Gisaeng, the last sane (if makjang) drama by the legendary (and legendarily insane) writer Im Sung Han.

It’s full of birth secrets, evil families, chaebols, monks, gisaengs (utterly ahistorically, gisaengs still exist in modern Korea of the story) and one of my fave OTPs of all time and so much shippy dysfunction!

She an elegant working class dancer he’s an icy chaebol heir who doesn’t know how to treat women as anything but lesser species thanks to his awful dad mistreating his mom all his life. He wants to take her to a hotel and she smacks him and makes him kneel in the street and he does. They date and are adorable. He dumps her because he panics he has feelings for a respectable young woman of lesser status, she goes and becomes a gisaeng! Because he’s fucked up but she’s fucked up more and runs on spite. If I am no good to my parents and my boyfriend I will show how no good I am! And then he realizes he can’t live without her and the most epic groveling ensues. She won’t take him back she won’t marry him she will just rub her clients into his face! He gets disowned by his family for his obsession! He hires himself out as a brothel servant to serve her clients! She says she will only leave with him if he makes her his mistress and he’s all no I will only marry you! She says if he won’t make her a kept woman he will watch other men do so! She orders him punished and he rabids harder!

Honestly the thing is a period drama pretending to be a modern.

They are both insane and need therapy and it’s glorious! I fully bought he’d off himself if couldn’t have her and seeing how icy and superior he started it was amazing! The chemistry between him and ISH is insane!

Secondary otps involve a white monk.

At one point his dad literally gets possessed which improves his personality markedly.

This drama is a GIFT.

I think I’ve talked myself into a rewatch ahahah like I have so much time.

My fave Tvd characters ( or ones that I don’t actively want to murder )

Please bear in mind that this is just my opinion and you can like whoever you want. Also this list only includes characters from TVD and one from TO.

1. Katherine Pierce

I absolutely loved Katherine, to the point where I lost interest in the show soon after her death (although this was more due to decline in quality). I liked her in s2 for her power and iconic personality / quotes, as well as her complex, interesting history. As the seasons progressed, I also felt sorry for her, especially when they screwed her over at the end of her life in s5, just to bring her back and ruin her again in s8. I understand that her character had flaws but I am still mad that she went to hell but flipping Klaus Mikaelson didn’t. Another thing that made me enjoy her was the brilliant acting from Nina Dobrev, who shone in the role of a badass yet glamorous villain and brought real personality to the part, despite her lazy and inconsistent storyline. She was a funny and iconic character, who was screwed over by everyone she ever met including her own father, all of her boyfriends and her doppelgänger and suffered to much for a 17 year old girl.

2. Rebekah Mikaelson

Rebekah always intrigued me, even though I found her annoying on my first watch of TVD, mainly due to her constant misguided loyalty to her brother. However, I came to realise that she was a victim of Klaus, just like everyone else, and that he was abusive and controlling towards her. After realising this, I was able to fully appreciate her character and the way she only wanted love and roasted the MF gang on many occasions. I especially enjoyed her sisterly relationships with Freya and Hayley and wished that she had become friends with Katherine, because that pairing would have been legendary.

3. Freya Mikaelson

She was the only reason that I managed to make it through any of TO and it was refreshing to see another powerful main witch aside from Bonnie. As I mentioned above, I loved her relationship with Freya and Hayley and liked her protectiveness. However, her loyalty to her family sometimes annoyed me, as I couldn’t stand her brothers. She deserved better than the Mikaelson men and Hope, who, from what I’ve seen, is the most annoying, whiny, overpowered teenage girl in the TVDU.

4. Matt Donovan

Everybody hates on this guy and I don’t understand why. He was just a normal teen with an absent father and an irresponsible, mostly absent mother, whose sister died when he was young, along with half of his friends. In my opinion, his dedication to staying a human and sticking to his morals was admirable and his relationships with many of the girls were cute and non-toxic. People only hate him because he isn’t some angsty, rebel heartthrob and happened to dislike many of the fan favourites.

5. Vicki Donovan

The writers really looked at this girl in s1 and were like “Let’s make her life as miserable as possible”. She grew up with terrible parents, had a drug problem, dated pre-redemption arc Tyler Lockwood, became a ripper and then died at the hands of a 100 year old monster. The worst part is that people dislike her because they found her issues “annoying” but then praise characters like Stefan, Klaus and Damon who all had serious mental illness as well.

6. Lexi Branson

She was a friendly and supportive person who died too soon and should have stayed on the show longer. Her attitude towards Katherine/Elena could have been interesting and her hatred of Damon was hilarious.

7. Elena Gilbert

Although I could hardly stand her in s4&6 and especially s5, I thought that she was an interesting character in the early seasons with a somewhat nice personality and a sense of nobility that many characters lacked. She doesn’t deserve all of the hate that she gets but I definitely understand why people don’t like her. I also think she should have been more sympathetic of Katherine and Rebekah, but I think that her feelings and opinions were always heavily manipulated by the Salvatore brothers.

8. Kai Parker

He brought some much needed excitement and comic relief to the very dreary s6 and he treated Katherien with the respect that she deserved. However, he suffered from the fact that he was a newcomer in the time when the show’s spirit started to die.

9. Jenna Sommers

This poor woman was left to look after two traumatised teenagers, after her only sister died, and put up with the constant drama of Mystic Falls. She was one of the few innocent people on this entire show and she deserved a happy ending, instead of being killed by a man she had never done anything to.

10. Hayley Marshall

She was interesting and funny, although she was sometimes annoying, and she put Caroline in her place when she was being particularly annoying. Every time she defied Klaus or Elijah I was like GO GET IT GIRL! However she, like Katherine, had a terrible taste in men, seeing as she went after the Mikaelson brothers.

These are all of my fave charcters on TVD. Hope you like at least one of these people.

Getting tired of the "GRRM writes incest as a total negative" vs "GRRM is a little freak who wrote asoiaf around his incest kink" discourse... not to be democristiana on main but both things can be true! He can use incest to make a larger thematic point about these dynasties self cannibalizing to retain their power/identity while also using it to make the story sexier (I always point at how different the ultimately consensual, while still dysfunctional, targcest or j/c are written vs the abject horror of Craster's keep). He can make anti war points while also being blatantly fascinated by the spectacle of (magnified) medieval warfare with a side of dragons. He so obviously revels in making up family trees and sigils and OTT castles and whatnot but I struggle to see a message of Feudalism Is Good, Actually in asoiaf. 

I guess we wouldn't be having all of these tiring discussions about whether he is endorsing [whatever problematique element is recurring in asoiaf] if he strictly stuck to his intended Message regardless of what he personally finds fun, hot or simply dramatically engaging, but let's be honest, we probably wouldn't be reading asoiaf if it was a straight up moral pamphlet, even though some people act like they wish it was. 

Asoiaf is more than pulp fiction; asoiaf is ALSO pulp fiction. I think analyzing it while ignoring either side makes it less interesting and diminishes the experience! But that's just me. Do whatever, this is a tumblr post not a cop

I am rewatching Malcolm in the Middle and i wanted to gush a little about its production design because I would seriously put it in Mad Men’s bracket of insane attention to detail, except that instead of getting a historical period right this is about communicating the class of Malcolm’s family. The furniture is mismatched and visibly lived in, their appliances (like the washing machine Lois wants to change) seem to mostly date to when they moved in (likely Francis’ birth), the lawn is a legendary mess. There’s a cold open in one of the later seasons where Lois scrubs a new stain off the floor only to realize this created a clear spot in the now uniformly greyed carpeting. A lesser sitcom would have created a gag where the mom character goes “whelp I guess now I have to clean it all 🙄”. But at this point we know Lois, we know she’s running a household with three unruly teenage and preteen sons and a baby, and she has a job outside the home too, so she does the sensible thing: she picks a handful of dirt off a flower pot and smudges it into the carpet. Clear spot gone. Idk, it’s such a neat little moment, and such a clever use of the set to facilitate showing who this character is.

clearly i have a preference for the 03 series lol

leonardo(2003 series)-this leo didn't quite go though the leadership arc most other versions do but he had many of those attributes down from the start which, to me, made him consistently enjoyable. he also felt like he handled the honorable/traditional aspects better. his extreme character arc in season 4 though, fighting against his own more controlling/extreme mentality was really stand out and well developed

raphael(batman vs tmnt film)-he's pretty standard for the character(most are pretty similar) but sticks out to me because of the small details, like his larger, more muscular size and scar, plus hello, he stood up to an angry batman and earned his respect, you cant beat that. 

donatello(bay films)-this version just nails the nerd angle so well and all the added details/gadgets are pretty fun. Rise version might have earned this spot if he wasnt so obnoxious and arrogant.

michelangelo(Rise)-03 version originally had this spot for the small spotlights he had, like his recurring "turtle titan" stories were always memorable to me. but rewatching Rise, it just nails him as the younger brother feel, being both a goof as well as more naive, immature  and impressionable.

splinter(2003 series)-this version was just amazing at balancing his depiction as a father(both strict and caring), teacher and legendary warrior. plus it was one of the best at depicting his strong connection to yoshi.

april O'neil(Rise)-the rise version just sticks out to me so much more for her personality, likability and relatability(what with the job troubles). plus she's one of the better versions at relating to the turtles, being treated like a sister to them as well as her many teamup eps with splinter. and her role in the series finale just cemented her as the best version to date.

casey jones(2003 series)-he doesnt have the edgy grittiness of other versions but he's still tough, likable, a good friend to the turtles and has a very cool backstory/history with hun and the purple dragons. is intro was also great as being a mirror up to raph of his own aggression struggles.

shredder(2003 series)-this is the most ruthless, tough, intimidating, absurdly cool looking and by far interesting version of shredder ever, especially with his hybrid characterization with krang. even when he wasnt in the series he still felt like an impactful presence.  

foot clan(2003 series)-the foot clan is typically very generic, but i love all the branches, groups and inner workings of how grand the organization is in this series.

karai(2003 series)-this version has to be the most developed and explored to date, walking the line between and honorable warrior and her loyalty to shredder; and her dynamic with leo was always entertaining. plus she is extremely awesome when she later becomes the shredder herself. the version from 07 film was a close second.

baxter stockman(03)-he didnt check off the mutant fly box but hes an ambitious scientist and a megalomaniac so he works perfect and always felt important. I do have to admit the progressive mutilations and constant returns always stuck in my mind.  

bebop/rocksteady(IDW comics)-prob my fav tmnt characters, the comics both update their designs in a fun way but it was their characterizations, history and motivation that really endeared this version of them to me. honestly, the lack of these two is one of the only cons against the 03 series.

Why did you start watching JSE?

Oddly enough, I was searching for screenshots of The Boy with Green Hair (1948) starring my favorite actor, the Late Legendary Dean Stockwell, when up popped Seán!

Despite not having green hair in 2014 or 2013, the link I clicked out of curiosity led me to Unfair Platformer (2014); followed by Unfair Mario (2013).

Why in that particular order is still a mystery to me, but I was instantly hooked! It wasn’t long after that I began my Five Year Completionist Binge-Watching Session which continues today.

What’s your favourite things about the Channel? This right here! Seán’s genuine empathy and love for others is what continues to foster a Beautiful Community who, despite its size, remains dedicated to offering an inclusive space for like-minded individuals of every race, creed, color, orientation and everything in between.

Do you have a fave Ego?

Chase Brody! I used to have no answer for that question. Not out of disdain of course, but I was definitely more of a satiated lurker where Ego Content was concerned.

Also regarding Theorizing— and I must emphasize that no one in the Community made me feel this way— I used to see myself as somewhat inadequate compared to everyone else.

Now I find myself less anxious about joining conversations on Tumblr, Twitter and the JSE Discord. I can’t praise Seán enough for his acting, directing and producing what is, to date, his most ambitious undertaking. What was your reaction as a rayllum shipper when you saw tdp season 3 for the first time?

i binge watched it all from 3am - 7am on zero sleep but here’s what i remember

3x01 didn’t break me because i’d read all the spoilers that got released for the episode like a month (and a half ish??) beforehand but i still internally screamed when rayla called him her best friend and envied gren because i too want a spinny hug from amaya

3x02 did break me because not only was ezran’s arc too good and exactly what i’d wanted for me that my brain was starting to be unable to process it, my brain actually did break upon finishing the episode and realizing that the ep’s b-plot was genuinely just rayllum having a fun date together in xadia. my brain remained broken for the rest of the season. also the first blush scene for rayllum also being mutual?? legendary, 10/10

the 3x03 dancing scene was life changing but i was mostly consumed by janaya feels and thinking about soren-rayla parallels. ezran in the cape and crown combo was a Look. “rayla doesn’t deserve this” lives on repeat in my head to this day

0.3 seconds into 3x04’s first rayllum scene was i Screaming because it was exactly the sort of conflict i’d been waiting for since 1x06 and i was just so fucking Hype and along for the ride. i still can’t believe the two blankets or just one tease is a Real Canon Thing that Happened. “rayla, it’s okay” and callum running after her added ten years to my life. him taking off her hood and calling her beautiful was already so much to process and then the Kiss happened and i had to pause and rewind

seeing rayllum still be such good friends and partners to each other in 3x05 in spite of the awkwardness was such a soothing balm to my heart. i don’t think words can adequately express the joy and softness of watching the look in callum’s eyes as he turned around to give another speech about how amazing rayla is or her lil smile when he kisses her first or the scarf grab or the final soft kiss. past me felt super vindicated that the soft callum look i’d spied in 1x07 was just a smaller version of his big 3x05 one. icons only

3x06 had soft snuggles that was an unexpected blessing. the moment when he places his hand over hers on his shoulder is the most #married things i’ve ever seen. rayla having grown enough to not only share callum’s viewpoint regarding the cycle but able to cheer him up with it?? sweeties. also a nice lil full circle because i’d also thought since 1x07 that callum opening up to rayla about his mother would be a nice lil end to that sort of arc

3x07 gave us so much in so little time. soft casual smooches and smiles. the flirting!! parallels to 1x03 lip touch as well as vindication because i’d always thought callum had flirted with her in 1x06 and then the exact same tone was used and i lost my mind. also they passed out holding hands!! it was so much for my heart it was almost a relief to go back to the a-plot that wasn’t rayllum centred

rayla giving callum the pendant in 3x08 when they’d both heard what it mean for runaan and ethari - “my love will be with you when the moon is not” - was so much i was screaming (again). him taking her hand and just silently being there for her and rayla opening up easily is still one of my fave scenes for them in the series. the final handhold resolution up on the pinnacle and callum proving that he does know her and just watching her process with the Softest smile on his face. two rayllum hugs in one ep is always a good time. and her taking his hand to comfort him in the end?? so sweet my heart

i cannot remember my exact reaction to seeing that callum wanted to tell her he loved her in 3x09 which is a crime but i think i let out a muffled scream within the confines of my mind. as soon as the wings came back i was like oh my god this is gonna be rayllum related isn’t it and then it was and it was beautiful and perfect and what my babies deserve. i wrote rayla putting her hands in callum’s hair on a series wishlist but never thought i’d ever get it. legendary, truly. perfect end to a fantastic season. also another handhold with interlaced fingers and these two losers looking at each other when zubeia says “my love”?? sign me tf up

-he gives me vibes of a person who collected whatever the equivalent of pokemon cards there. In his old room he still has some of those old cards in one of those fancy little books that you could put them in

-he was the one who caught hops wooloo!

-Teases hop about his crushes, but in the nice brotherly way and not the annoying one. Supportive but also very "sooo hop,you and them ayeeeeee?" Personally I'm a gloria and hop shipper, but that could work for anyone

-for hops birthday he has a special birthday snap back. He also wears this to your birthday, its colorful and has a party hat ontop of it. This was actually a little crafty thing hop made but he cherishes it (even if hop is like nOoO-) idk I just like to think he has special occasion snap backs like a Christmas one with dangly lights or it looks like santas hat.

-even though hes a very happy and confident person, alot of his years come up to him as more of a serious kind of dude like at the battle tower. Sometimes I cant help but think he looks at the window of his house and just thinks if this is really what life might be. As much as he loves being champion, sponsors and all- even that can get suffocating sometimes. But you're like a bright light to him, hes probably just amazing at cuddling with how big he is and hes just UGHH so great at comforting.

Steven

-Thinks hes sOo great at cooking until he somehow fails at BOILING WATER. Hes trying his best but sometimes your beat is not enough 😔 you probably will have to save him alot, oh well hes good at being champion so just keep it at that

-good singing voice, singing you to sleep? Gotcha! Singing at a party where he was being pushed to do so? Great. I can imagine he follows more on deeper tones, but hes good at high notes too. (Also somebody made Steven's theme with LYRICS I'm in love)

-when he was younger, Joseph always had to keep an eye on him if they visited the mines together because yes this little rock loving maniac is running around EVERYWHERE to get that fancy rock. Pls save Joseph. On other notes he'll bring his kids with him to mining too! But only on the places he knows are safe, he dosent want to risk his family getting harmed afterhismotherdiED

-more childhood headcanons is that hes good at science, especially earth science but not as great at math. He isnt terrible, definitely not but he cant compete at a competition. ALSO I agree that he wouldnt be super cool and suave, hes starting to be but man hes mostly a little bit of a nerd who carries around a book of rocks. He wasnt exactly popular with people wanting to date him until he grew up 😔 though he loves you alot so too bad you're stuck with a rock nerd your entire life.

I had genetics today (my fave) and idk if I did something wrong (or too right), because I had way too much extra time left. Like I’m disabled so I get extra time on exams, and I didn’t even come close to using it. So I’m a bit spooked tbh lol. I got one more exam in a couple days and then I’m done!

I CANNOT believe we just thought of the same headcanon about Steven’s voice and being able to sing!! Legit just thinking about this. He’s perfect for lullabies! And drunk karaoke!

Lol I just imagine lil five y/o Steven pestering his dad about all the cool pebbles in the garden, and Joseph wanting to be a good dad and foster his son’s curiosity, so he takes him to local cave that does tours and baby Steven is literally acting as if he was in a sweet shop. He kept asking the tour guide questions about the rocks and every answer made him go “Wow! That’s so cool!”.

Bab steven is precious! Protect at all costs!

As a science lover who is not great at maths, I FEEL that deep within my soul. Personally I headcanon Steven has a bachelor’s in geology (with a minor in business because his dad begged him to), so he probably did a lot of science in college, and did only the easiest math bits to get by lol.

Steven was definitely bullied a bit in school, he was a really big nerd and hadn’t grown into the dreamboat we know and love yet. I think that’s how he met and became friends with Wallace, because they were classmates, and Wallace was also bullied, for being super flamboyant (and queer). They bonded over being outcasts and battling.

And when they grew up, got hot, and became fabulous superstars, it’s safe to say a lot of the people who wronged them were suddenly very interested in being friends with Hoenn’s champions.

Moral of the story? Don’t be a dick!
