(It started much earlier for Peter, and now he has the pleasure of watching Stiles grow into his own in much the same way. Of course, he hadn't expected to end up fixating on the boy quite so much, but then, what's life without a few surprises?)

The argument continues while Peter weighs the merits of letting them know the two missing (runaway) pack members are likely nothing but collateral damage at this point. Probably smears against the hecatolite walls of the bank. He opens his mouth to speak when something. Flickers.

His nephew’s brows furrow for a moment—the wayward beta doesn’t even blink—but Peter sees the twitch in Stiles’ jaw, the way his eyes dart quickly to the side, and his shadow just… flickers.

Peter Hale knew who he was. He used to be the most fearsome left-hand in the country. He had been a rabid, uncontrolled alpha for a bit. He was a betrayer, a liar, that had pushed what was left of his family away. For a long time, he was sick with himself; now, he was just sick with the world. There had been a war. Tamora Monroe had brought them together to fight a common cause, but they went their separate ways when it was all over. Scott McCall had let him work to protect the pack until the war ended, but he wouldn’t tolerate it afterward. There was no surprise there; Scott had never been his biggest fan, and vice versa. Peter had slunk off in the middle of the night, promising to continue his mission. He would hunt them to extinction, not that he told any of them that.

Then out of nowhere, Stiles Fucking Stilinski had claimed the kill without Peter noticing that he was in the area. What could possibly go wrong?
