✅—Which character/plot point/etc would be your favorite to see on screen?

I already answered this for characters, so for plot points...I'd love to see pretty much anything from Book 2, which is the one that's currently most settled in my imagination. Amarantha on the train with the other schoolgirls...the scene in the cobalt blue room at the palace, building up to the fateful slap and the look on Elystan's face when Amarantha strikes him...waking up in a semi-abandoned castle and exploring it, complete with fantastic cinematography and a vaguely eerie score. Etc. etc.

🎤—Describe the opening scene

Let's say they're filming a combination of all three versions of the Christmas Chapter, as a special. It opens on a montage of the cities of Loriston and Königsstadt at Christmastime, as the opening credits play. Lots of lovingly lingering shots on every detail of the season being celebrated--the decorations, the concerts, the food, the excitement--with an appropriately festive score building up the sense of jollity, then--

abrupt cut to Josiah in the great hall at school, writing his depressing Latin essay. The music goes somber, the entire palette changes, and his expression as his words are read in voiceover couldn't be farther from the good cheer the previous scene wallowed in.

This contrast should clue the viewer in on what to expect.

On Break Next Week... Sort Of

Hello again everyone!

The comic will be on break next Monday (2/3). This is partially because of writerly stuff -- @spookyscribe​ and I are publishing the fourth book in our YA fantasy series, Winter’s Blight, this week! If anyone is curious, our author tumblr is @magicandmonstersfiction​ .

But it’s also because I really need to take some extra time to do some drawing exercises, primarily for this comic. There are a few things I’m just not satisfied with, and a bit of practice is needed to (hopefully) improve things.

So while there won’t be a new page this week, I will be responding to questions, and will be posting the sketches and exercises, both here and on my main blog, @mcaquila​.

Bridgette (temporary name), a heroine with an artiste’s temperament, from a story that my co-writer and I might do. It has everything: awesome female werewolves, burnt out vampire employees, disgruntled werewolf gods, stalker vampires (but not the hot kind), modern interpretative dance...and debt from college loans!

Just a first draft of her design, but we wanted a blonde because dark-haired heroines in vampire-related stories are a tad overdone.

I want those ballet shoes.

Akos is a Dark Elf who is also a god reborn (presumably), and Priya is supposedly the reincarnation of his lover. Akos is 100% into this. Priya is not. There's no way that drama will ensue. It's simply not possible.

Winter’s Blight -- the YA fantasy series @spookyscribe & I co-write -- is going to be concluded on August 31st!

To celebrate this, my Youtube channel next month will have a series of videos that are all about the ups and downs of creating & publishing this series over the past 4 years. It’s been a lot of fun making some extra book cover-related designs like the two above!

The videos will also show a speedpaint of the middle image, which is currently still a WIP. It should be done before August... hopefully ^^;
