#spoilers: I think she’s 19

I’ve vaguely explained my break down of the kalos protags ages (and while I could talk about that more) I wanna talk about zinnia because I have a lot of thoughts about her!
I’ve spent years of my life focused on storytelling both visually and verbally, specifically written and drawn character designs and the art of “show don’t tell” so I think that gives me enough insight to be the one deciphering character ages-
Tumblr media
Okay starting first with her visuals, zinnia has a very mature build by proportions alone, she has sharp facial features, firm toned body (you can literally see that through her shirt, which is skin tight and tied on) she’s undoubtedly muscular partially through her upbringing, but it’s important to remember muscle gains come with age. You will not see a 12 year old with abs and jacked forearms because a young child/teen body can not gain that kind of muscle. A toned body indicates muscle gain especially in AFAB individuals as there’s a lack of testosterone to aid in the process of bulking up. And zinnia leads a rather off the grid lifestyle already so an enhanced workout routine is out of the question. Her build alone indicates late teens to early adulthood.
Dialogue, there’s dialogue that refers to zinnia as a teenager. But there is also dialogue of a team magma grunt saying she’s totally his type. If they’re comfortable having implied adults hit on her I feel it’s safe to assume we can cut her down into the 18-19 bracket.
Storyline, zinnias story is not a tale you write a young child into. Her story is filled with heartbreak and not just acceptance of her own mortality, but also facing her willingness to die in order to save the world. She was raised into a suicidal duty and she’s come to terms with a young death. Most writers (especially gamefreak who makes games for children) tend to avoid child death as to not upset parents and players. Another part of her story is the fact she gets a job working under team magma/aqua depending on your version, and while I wouldn’t say it’s out of they’re brand to work with younger teens in team aqua- team magma would not hire a 15 year old into a high tech eco terrorist team of geologists and scientists. Meaning she must be old enough for them to think she’s responsible in the field.
Lastly, I placed Calem and Serena at the age of 18 as they didn’t have an appearance that (in my opinion) warranted me putting them at the age of 19. When I put zinnia next to Calem and Serena I see that (in my opinion) she looks older than them both. Therefore my final thought is that lorekeeper zinnia from pokemon omega ruby and alpha sapphire, is 19 years old.

Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
#dimension 20#dimension 20 spoilers#d20 introductions#fhjy#fantasy high junior year#d20 fhjy#WOW dang. what a season#i'm glad the episode didn't end on like. as bleak of a note as it could have for the ratgrinders#being literal teens that were taken advantage of by adults that groomed them and all#was honestly REALLY obsessed by the implications of like how kipperlily's shatterstar was willing and the rest of her friends' weren't.#like there are so many fucking ways that could be interpreted#was she the last to go? was she the first? did she KNOW? was she complicit in it? did she do it by her own hand? what HAPPENED there?#i'm so obsessed. like holy fuck#also this is something vague i was hoping for but like- in the combat when ally said they wanted to go for oisin after he died at first#i was thinking of something like. that they might revive the ratgrinders whose shatter stars already left to have them rejoin the fight#on THEIR side for the purposes of saving the others? but that didn't happen and went on otherwise#i can't. fucking believe. that we got fucking blimey'd AGAIN. fucking insane#and now K2 canonically exists in the real world#fig has an army of inevitable automatons hunting her. fabian has a literal unborn nemesis. adaine has a wizard mom to kill.#senior year problems..... honestly i feel like the high level play this season was really fun to watch#and i think i'd really enjoy seeing a senior year too#what a season. i was IMMENSELY enjoying it for the majority of it that like Starkly dropped around eps 18 and 19 that left a bad taste#but i don't know. i feel like the finale managed to salvage some of that good that i'd really enjoyed over the course of the season#what a ride though‚ I did enjoy it a lot#see y'all next season!!

Danielle just went live with a few fans who were talking about the premiere and here are some key things she said in case anyone missed it!
The kiss in the episode still with them wearing scrubs was a rehearsal cut. She said they went all in on the kiss, full make out, during rehearsal and then they told them that they needed to tone it down because they were around people and in a workplace so it made more sense to cut it back a bit. (Danielle said she fought them on this, bless her. Too bad they didn't listen)
The baby who is Liam is actually played by a baby girl that is one of the crew member's baby. We're going to see a lot of her in upcoming episodes and they all fight over who gets to hold her when she's on set. The baby is only allowed to be on set for 20 minutes a day for scenes.
Danielle was able to slip in a 'babe' like people had asked her to in one of the episodes so she's hoping they won't cut it and she's trying to get other things we had asked for in there as well. There was one thing they said absolutely not (she was about to say what it was but then said the babe thing instead).
Episode 7x07 is a big Maya episode (written by Leah/directed by David) and she's going to go live with these same people to recap and give BTS from it.
We're going to see a bunch more of badass Carina which she knows everyone has been wanting and will be super happy about. She said it's more of 'old school' Carina.
She said the comforter situation was something she wasn't happy about at all and when she went on set and saw it she said it was so bad. She still won't say who is responsible for the choice.
She said Maya actually still does have her bangs, they're just slicked back. When Maya's hair is down, we'll see them more like curtain bangs.

I think a lot of people who are so focused on the ratgrinders being redeemed need to watch Misfits and Magic. I feel like even if the intrepid heroes TRIED to redeem the ratgrinders some of the ratgrinders fall into the same situation as Tallulah which is: even when given explicit instructions in how to be redeemed her loathing of the protagonists and conviction in her belief that she's better than them means she simply refuses to be redeemed.

Whumptober day 19, flower bouquet
This might be psychological too but I honestly didn’t know what the prompt meant when it said that. Kind of broad you know? Anyways TCOD TIME! This is before the first arc of the story of course, a short but more wholesome one. Kinda. I love Maria (Link’s grandma)
I haven’t updated it in a while but you can read what I have so far at @thecurseofdemisecomic :) I could use the support
Warnings: mentions of family death.
~~~~~~~~~~~~
It was a hard day for Maria, as it always was every year. Every morning she would wake up and get started with her day, tending to her cows, tending to her gardens, and making sure her grandchildren got their chores finished. But this morning was different, it was the only day when Maria didn’t worry about being so strict with the chores. She still did them of course, but she was more lenient about it with her grandkids, since today was the anniversary of when she lost a son and a daughter-in-law.
The memory still haunted her. She was training Linkle on how to use her crossbow since she was so insistent on learning, wanting nothing more than to follow her grandmother in her footsteps, when she heard San curse under his breath. She remembered when she looked to see what was wrong, she saw her oldest son, Taril, laying on the ground with Link and Aryll crying. She and San did everything for him, trying to keep him alive, trying to get a doctor to their small secluded farm. But with the doctors overwhelmed due to a large scale monster attack, no one came, and Taril succumbed to his injuries. Monna, his wife, wasn’t with him, and Maria soon discovered that she died trying to buy Link and Taril time to get away. Thankfully, Link and Aryll were fine, but the children were scarred from such a traumatic event.
Maria thought that losing her husband was hard. Having him say goodbye to her and her sons and then never returning, having to raise her boys when they were still teenagers on her own despite not being the primary caretaker for them, having to retire early from the army just so she can be with her sons, it was hard. And the pain of losing her husband returned when she lost her own boy, but it was almost unbearable. She should’ve been the one to go, she should’ve been the one to have lost her life. She was growing old, she didn’t need to live the limited time she had left. Taril and Monna had young children, the youngest barely being a year old. They had so much to live for. And knowing what they could’ve had was painful to bear. No parent should ever have to bury her child, but it was something she had to do. She only wished that she could’ve buried Monna as well, so she and Taril could be together physically, even in death.
Maria didn’t have a strong relationship with her grandchildren, save for Linkle who idolized her, but she had to become the caretaker for the kids who lost their parents, and she had to break through the wall that was between her and Link.
Link had watched his father die right in front of him, he had heard his mother’s cries as she was murdered by Lizalfos, so getting through to him was a challenge for Maria. San had tried, but he was never particularly good with children. Linkle had tried, and she was much more successful than Maria and San, but she herself was still recovering from losing her parents as well. It wasn’t fair to put such a weight on her young shoulders. As time went on, Maria grew to understand Link more, and the family grew closer than ever, but she still felt herself more distant from Link than with Linkle.
Slowly over time, the wounds healed, and though they scarred, they didn’t hurt as much as they used to. A couple of days after Link and Linkle’s sixteenth birthday, the hardest day of their lives came by, and it was quiet on the farm as Maria slowly tended to the animals, ignoring the dull pain in her heart over the loss of her son and daughter-in-law. When she went to return to her house however, she saw someone by the graves that honored Taril and Monna’s life. It was Link, and he was standing there silently with a bouquet in his hands. Maria walked up to him, curious at what he was doing alone, and stared at the tombstones.
“Hi grandma,” Link said quietly, clutching the bouquet of flowers tighter.
“Hello my dear, how have you been this fine morning?”
Link looked at her and forced a smile. “I’ve been good.” Maria tilted her head and Link’s smile disappeared. “I… I suppose I’ve been better.”
Maria smiled slightly and wrapped her arm around him, giving him a side hug. Link leaned into the hug and rested his head on her shoulder.
“I miss them,” he whimpered, his voice wavering uncontrollably as he tried not to cry. Maria only closed her eyes and hugged him tighter.
“I miss them too, my dear.”
“I wonder if they’re proud of me. I—I’ve been trying to take care of Aryll and Linkle, and Epona too of course but… I wonder if they think I’ve been doing a good job.”
“Oh sweetheart,” Maria ran her hands through his strawberry-blonde hair, twirling the ends around her finger. “You’ve been doing a wonderful job. Aryll loves you so much, you’re a wonderful brother to her. And you and Linkle are best friends, I can’t ever seem to separate you two.” Maria chuckled as Link giggled slightly, and she playfully ruffled his hair. “And you treat that horse with the utmost respect and care I have ever seen. I’m sure your parents would be very proud of you.”
Link’s smile stayed as he stared at the tombstones, his head never leaving her shoulder.
“I’ve been thinking,” he started, pursing his lips, “I want to rebuild dad’s old horse farm, and raise horses just like he did.”
Maria raised her eyebrows, surprised that he told her such a thing. He normally confided in Linkle about his future and hopes and dreams. For him to share this with Maria, it was an honor to her.
“Why, I think that’s a wonderful path to take, my dear. You share your father’s love for horses, that’s for sure.”
“…yeah,” Link smiled fondly at the tombstones, but his grip on the bouquet tightened, and he bit his lip as tears started to pour out of his eyes. Maria didn’t say anything when he let out a sob, she just held him, trying not to cry herself. After a moment of Link crying silently, she nudged him forward.
“Let’s put the flowers down, shall we?”
Link nodded and he and Maria walked closer to the tombstones, setting the bouquet down next to one other, belonging to Linkle and Aryll she presumed. Maria stood up when the flowers were put down, but Link lingered, tracing his fingers along the words on the tombstone. Finally, he stood back up as well and walked over to Maria, his eyes puffy, his cheeks rosy, and his nose runny. Maria gave him a smile and cupped his cheeks, kissing him on the forehead. Link leaned into her, and Maria pulled him into a hug. The two stood there for a while holding each other, the only sound was Link’s silent cries and whimpering. Maria could feel her shoulder growing damp from his tears, but she didn’t care. She rubbed circles in Link’s back, and she even shed a few tears as well. After a long moment of crying, Maria pulled away, but still kept an arm around his shoulder.
“Let’s go back to the house alright? I can make you and your sisters a little treat. How does that sound?”
Link sniffed and smiled, wiping his eyes with the back of his hand. “Ok…” he muttered, and the two walked away from the graves back to the house. Yes it was a hard day for the family, a harsh reminder of what had happened. But the closer Maria felt to her grandchildren, the easier the day became. She may have lost her children, but she had her grandchildren, and she thanked the goddesses for that blessing.
hey I just realized Wylie's only one year out of Foxfire and he's still older than Jolie ever got to be. she was about Rayni's age when she died if my math is right. that's. so young. she was only two years older than Fitz. Jolie was so young. for all of it. to be losing all her friends to be getting married to be part of a rebellion to die. she never even graduated that's how young she was. help
So I’ve been doing an Animorphs Book Club this year, and we just got through the absolute gauntlet that is Books 19-23 With Bonus Hork-Bajir Chronicles. (For those of you who are familiar with the series but not numbers, that’d be Cassie and Aftran having philosophical debates in the wilderness, the David Trilogy, and Tobias being confronted with the idea he might ACTUALLY have a relative who cares about him, only to have it cruelly yanked away.) The club-runners had mentioned that this week would be going back to comedy mode. (Poor, poor Cassie, who got ONE really fantastic book to shine in 19, one that was at least plot-critical in 4, and some good moments especially outside her POV but has mostly gotten pretty mediocre one-off comedy books for her POV so far.) Somehow, that did not prepare me for JUST HOW Wacky this book is.
… Yeah, I’m going to assume the Helmacrons aren’t going to be recurring characters with which to define Cassie’s arc going forward.
fuck. I was writing this emma barnes fic and I've come to a realization. For a period of exactly seven days in 2009, Emma Barnes is a completely different person from the one in canon. Like, I always knew that meeting Shadow Stalker the second time shaped her as a person, but it's genuinely shocking how utterly different the road of her life could have been.
Like, for my fic I had these two paths I was struggling to pick between, which I'm calling Wire and Cloth, as a joke about imprinting (see neither is good but one is distinctly better than the other), one where Emma ends up being kidnapped by the ABB and one where she ends up as shadow stalker's apprentice. But.
Look, here's a line from Interlude 19: "What got her, the nebulous idea that haunted her, was the impact those scenes had.  There were so many defining moments, so many crises, big and small, that shaped the people they touched.  The biggest and most critical moments were the sorts that wiped the slate clean, that ignored or invalidated the person who had existed before, only to create another."
Like, yeah, she's talking about triggers, but what's getting to me is how empathetic (in the literal "I can relate to your pain" sense) and compassionate she sounds. Like. Emma shuts herself in her room for a week because she's incapable of dealing with the horror of knowing that hundreds of little girls are going through what she did every minute of every day. She can't deal with it.
This emma, who only exists for a week, is haunting me. She's just--It's just weird!
And the Emma who exists for the rest of the story, for every section except for less than half of one chapter, you can see the remains! She's there! Emma recontextualizes her existential despair at the enormity of human suffering, something she only really understood in abstract until now, as Sophia's predator/prey philosophy, right? It's so easy for her, because it gives her a way to explain it. There's predators and there's prey. It already slots into her worldview. Like (and I'm really just harping on about victim blaming today aren't I?) those girls who suffered like Emma did, they suffered because they were weak! It's simple now. There's two kinds of people, the ones who are hurt and the ones who hurt, and all Emma has to do to make sure that she is never hurt again is to be the one who does the hurting.
But for seven days, there's that ghost. The kind Emma Barnes, who doesn't want anything like what happened to her happen to anyone else. It's not as narratively interesting, I get that. Who wants a worm character who's all peace and love? That doesn't make for a mentally disturbed teenage girl doing horribly violent acts, and that's what we in the worm fandom all want to see. But still she haunts me.
interesting the diff interpretations of maya’s actions floating around.....lots of people quick to justify her actions / relieve her of the responsibility just bc beckett was a dick.......and yeah i also have zero sympathy for him bc he’s a dick but she still indirectly had a hand in someone else’s death and that’s worth reflecting......like the whole idea is she could have easily done this to someone else who wasn’t a beckett but just in the way of her success
