911 6x14 Spec
By the time Eddie gets home he’s welcomed by the distinct smell of Bobby’s shepherd pie recipe, which he knows for a fact Buck’s been perfecting during their shifts. It smells homey and comforting and absolutely wonderful.
He follows the smell to the kitchen, where Buck’s washing the dishes. He’s wearing a soft navy hoodie with the sleeves rolled up and has a white drying towel slung over his shoulder. He looks at ease and comfortable and suddenly Eddie feels terribly overdressed.
“Hey,” he calls as he walks in, taking off the red jacket his tia had insisted on for tonight.
Buck turns around, eyebrows high with surprise.
“You’re home early.”
“Yeah, it was... faster than I expected,” Eddie huffs a laugh, hanging the jacket on the back of a chair before sitting on it.
“I know you said you were letting her down easy,” Buck says, turning around with his back against the counter, “but I thought you’d at least make it through dinner.”
“There was no dinner. She took me to a nightclub.”
“For a first date?” Buck laughs. “With you?”
“What’s that supposed to mean?” It can’t be that weird for Eddie to go out dancing every once in a while. He’s thirty four, not eighty.
“Nothing, nothing! Just not what I would- never mind. Still, that’s good, right? It’s an easier place to just tell her you’re not interested.”
“You’d think,” Eddie huffs. “But she beat me to it.”
“Wait- She turned you down?” Buck’s voice is colored by something between shock and indignation, like the sole idea of not wanting to date him is the most ridiculous thing he’s ever heard.
“Yeah, she said she wasn’t ready for a serious relationship but her tia keeps setting her up, too. So we just decided on some fake date story and called it quits after a margarita.”
Buck seems pensive at that, for a moment, before he turns his ever curious eyes towards him.
“Well, you said you didn’t want something serious either. Kinda sounds like the perfect match, actually, if you guys just wanted to have some fun,” he says, trying to be light, but Eddie knows him well enough to notice some caution behind his words, some trace of suspicion.
“First of all, I never said I don’t want something serious, okay? I do,” and for some reason it seems important to him that Buck understands that bit of information. “I just... I’m not sure if I’m ready for it. Not yet, anyway.”
Ana María’s remark about not wanting her own heart broken echoes in the back of his head.
“And second of all...?” Buck asks, eyeing him intensely.
“Second of all, even if I didn’t want something serious, dating around and just going out... I don’t know if it’s for me. I mean, there’s nothing wrong with it, but being a single dad makes it complicated. I’m not letting anyone into Chris’s life unless I know I want them to stick around forever.”
Something curious happens to Buck’s face then. The expression that flashes through his eyes is a mix of confusion and delight and surprise that eventually overflows into tearfulness. It lasts a millisecond before Buck duck’s his head, trying to hide a smile, and turns around with his focus back on the dirty dishes...
Eddie knows his best friend’s heart like he knows his own and doesn’t need any mind-reading powers to know exactly what just happened. Some day, Eddie swears, he’ll get Buck to stop looking so surprised by the fact that Eddie wants him in his life.
“Speaking of Chris,” Buck says, with his back turned to Eddie, “he’s supposed to be in bed already, but I’m pretty sure he’s been sneaking the Percy Jackson book under the covers when he thinks I’m not looking.”
Eddie laughs at that, shaking his head.
“I was planning on checking on him in a bit, to make sure he was sleeping,” Buck adds, like he’s trying to show Eddie he can be a responsible adult even if he has to play the mildly bad cop.
“I’ll do it and kiss him goodnight,” he says, standing up.
As he walks to the door, he can hear Buck getting back to work on the dishes. It makes him pause. It doesn’t seem fair that his friend, on top of helping him look after Chris, has to clean everything up.
“You can leave that, Buck. I’ll take care of it tomorrow morning.”
Buck half turns to look at him with a confused frown.
“Eddie, I’m not gonna just leave you with this mess. You know Bobby taught me better than that,” he smirks. “Besides, I’m nearly done. I don’t mind.”
The easy earnest in his voice makes something inside Eddie’s chest melt with fondness.
“Thank you.”
“Don’t mention it. You know I’m happy to be here,” Buck waves it off. “Go kiss, Chris.”
Eddie makes sure to make noise as he approaches his son’s bedroom and he pretends not to hear the rustling of bedsheets before he opens the door. Christopher is still too young to realize how obvious his not-sleeping-breathing is, but Eddie pretends to buy it as he kisses his forehead and brushes his curls out of his forehead. He puts the book away on the bookshelf, for good measure, and leaves the door slightly open before he walks back out.
By the time he makes it back to the kitchen, the place is nearly spotless and there’s a plate of warm shepherd’s pie on the kitchen table. He stares at it, then at Buck, who shrugs with a sheepish smile that is way too cute for a man his size.
“You said you didn’t get to eat dinner. Figured you must be hungry.”
The thoughtfulness of the gesture makes Eddie’s insides melt once more. His chest feels like it might burst with whatever feeling is expanding inside it.
“Starving, actually,” he admits, sitting down.
Buck opens the fridge and hands him a beer.
“Wanna join me?” Eddie asks, pointing to the chair in front of him.
“I already ate,” Buck laughs, “two servings, actually. But I’ll have a beer with you.”
Eddie watches as Buck pulls a second beer from the fridge and sits across from him, waiting until they are both seated to start eating (his mom drilled manners into him, after all).
...and that’s how the night ends in a much sweeter note than he expected. He eats Buck’s homemade food, they drink together, one, two, three beers and maybe get a little tipsy while they talk about life, work and everything in between. Eddie laughs more than he did the whole night out and insists Buck crash his couch because it’s too late to get an Uber home (it isn’t that late, actually, but it’s ridiculous that Buck’d need to go home all alone at this point when Eddie has a perfectly good and comfortable couch).
While Eddie helps Buck prepare his makeshift bed, his friend catches him off guard:
“So, do you think you’ll ever be ready? I- I mean... to start dating again. For something real.”
Buck pins him with a pair of tired blue eyes, hopeful like they’d been after the lightning strike, and a little sad too.
“Yeah... yeah, I think I’m getting there. I think... I think it depends on the person, most of all.”
“Right,” Buck nods, thoughtfully.
“In the meantime, I gotta figure out what to do with tia Pepa. She’s not gonna relent so easily.”
“Just tell her you’re already seeing someone,” Buck shrugs, flopping down on the couch with a sigh. He closes his eyes and melts down on the soft cushions with a small smile across his lips. “You can tell her you’re dating me or something, if it’ll get her off your back.”
Eddie should laugh and brush it off, because Buck is jut kidding, but the idea makes a little too much sense to discard it just yet.
“I might take you up on that.”
Buck’s eyes open and stare at him with pure shock that startles a laugh out of him.
“As a last resort.”
“Ouch. I’m that bad an option, uh?” Buck winces.
Eddie rolls his eyes.
“Not bad, but if I tell her that then she’s never gonna let it go and I don’t think you want her grilling you forever on how our relationship is going.”
“You’re assuming she’d believe you.”
“Right, she’d never buy it,” Eddie huffs, smiling down at his best friend. “I don’t think I’m your type.”
Buck squints up at him, a little too serious. “What do you think my type is, Diaz?”
Girls. Redheads. Emotionally unavailable women who’ll hurt you and leave you and that I’ll quietly hate forever for it. Definitely not single dads still trying to figure out their messy lives. Not that Eddie cares.
“Whatever it is, I don’t think I’m pretty enough to qualify,” Eddie similes, giving Buck’s bent knee a pat. “Sleep well, man.”
He’s tired, and tipsy, and a little confused, so he’s pretty sure he imagines it when he turns off the lights and hears Buck whisper in the dark living room, “You’re definitely pretty enough.”

I just love the idea of a super gentle, calm person who always tries to not show how truly possessive they can be getting stuck with someone like Gojo as a partner, who will of course notice their buried possessiveness and try to eagerly make them give into that and mark Gojo up a bit

Now don’t get him wrong, GOJO SATORU is in no way a picky man when it comes to relationships. He just happened to fall for a very tranquil, kind-hearted person who is always sweet to those around them…Or so he thought.
I jest; you are all those things and many, many more it seems. But he didn't come to this decision by himself — oh no, he'd quite a few “hints” to help him out along the way.
Exhibit A: The two of you decided to use one of your very limited off days to spend time together in the city. Upon your arrival, GOJO was immediately swarmed by a group of fans, consisting of mainly teenage girls, who were practically drooling all over him. Being a rather powerful sorcerer yourself, you had your fair share of admirers. But that didn't excuse their strange behavior. Your relationship was public for Christ's sake!
You gently grab his arm, leading him from the group of girls in a rush. The polite smile on your lips was a bit strained and your nails were just barely grazing his skin. He'd almost brushed it off; well until he heard some very peculiar words leave your lips. “Do I have to marry him for these bitches to stay in their place or what? It's absolutely ridiculous.”
But he chose to ignore it.
Exhibit B: The afternoon the two of you were assigned a very important mission. But as always, SATORU can't seem to keep his attention in one place; so here you are, waiting in front of a Taiyaki vendor for the Jujutsu sorcerer, bored out of your mind. Once growing impatient, you push through the thin glass doors to retrieve him yourself.
But the first thing you saw was some chick holding GOJO'S hand dangerously close to her breasts and you were pissed. You approached the two with long strides before slapping the woman's hand away, leaving a stinging sensation in your wake. Your glare was hot, scorching even, as you stared her down as though she was nothing more than a spec of dirt beneath your feet.
“I'd appreciate it if you didn't touch my partner, M. I. N. E, or I might just have to teach you a lesson.”
That was all the proof he needed.
AFTER FINDING OUT:
“Hey honey, I think we need to have a talk about yesterday.”
The seriousness of his tone made your blood run cold. What happened; did he dislike the side of you that he saw? Is he genuinely upset with your actions? “Why didn't you show me that sooner~?” Bitch what?
Yes, he was a little bit annoyed at you for keeping such a wonderful secret from him; but I digress. Now's not the time to focus on the past when a new challenge has risen: Operation “Getting a (few) hickeys from {Name}” is now ago!
However, knowing you, this wasn't going to be easy.
While not being the type to make someone jealous, he will do his damnedest to get under your skin in other ways. For example, teasing; tugging the collar of his loose shirt, merely enough for you to see before saying, “Haah...My neck is awfully lonely right now; If only someone would bless me wish some kisses~!”
When you finally decided to give him some hickeys, it's over. Satoru is moaning so loud that you're sure the neighbors can hear you. It's mainly to tease you but he genuinely enjoys your possessive side. Having his significant other hold him so dearly is all he could ever want.
He's never been so grateful for his pale skin in his life. Don't even think for a second that he won't show them off! Low cut shirts, unnecessary tugs on his collar when he's around his students, and even openly converse about it. He truly has no shame.
You could hardly look your students in the eye due to his perverted acts!
At the end of the da y, GOJO will show you just how attractive he finds your possessiveness. After all, the last thing he wants is for his beloved to beat themself up over something so insignificant.

Even if we assume that Rhaegar married Lyanna, does their marriage would be considered valid? In the show Gilly and Sam got to know about marriage through the some records. Is it possible in books too? What do you think?
Well, I can’t say that any of D&D’s decisions made sense in hindsight, and I don’t know how any evidence would be presented and sufficient enough to convince Westeros as a whole that Jon was Rhaegar’s “legitimate” child, but all that aside, this is the all-important book quote:
"Likely they were too shy to come out," Ned jested. He could feel the chill coming up the stairs, a cold breath from deep within the earth. "Kings are a rare sight in the north."
Robert snorted. "More likely they were hiding under the snow. Snow, Ned!" The king put one hand on the wall to steady himself as they descended. (AGOT, Eddard I)
That’s compelling evidence that Martin intended Jon to be a Targaryen heir (“true born" in some capacity) from the beginning of the story. Sure, Robb and Bran become kings, we'll have several kings springing up in the North, but the "hiding under the snow. Snow, Ned" is (imo) unarguably a reference to Ned hiding Jon's identity by claiming him as his bastard (Snow). And the idea conveyed is that Ned is hiding a king. (@sherlokiness has several posts about additional wordplay around this, specifically the Jon and Joffrey, bastard and prince stuff).
As the series goes on, we get additional king references for Jon, and people have argued that it's KitN foreshadowing, and maybe, maybe that's what happens, but this passage, way back in AGOT, indicates that it is Jon's bastardy (hiding under the snow) that secrets the king. Not that he will eventually be chosen as one, but that he is one by virtue of his birth.
I don’t much care either way. I’ve pointed out that Jon being a bastard and going up against a true born is a fun progression of his bastard issues as is finding out he’s a trueborn and hating it/rejecting it because of what Rhaegar and Aerys did to the Starks. Either way, it’s juicy! There are things to explore. So, I’d just remind people, this spec isn’t about any specific bloggers hopes, or relying on GoT, it exists because of Martin’s words. And even if we find it offensive or think it goes against the later worldbuilding, there are lines in the book that indicate it’s potentially what Martin was planning way back when.
Now, I don't know why on Earth D&D bothered to write tangible proof of Jon's legitimacy in s7 when they totally neglected to do anything politically in s8 that would require that? Maybe keeping their options open if they needed to prolong the series? But I find it difficult to believe there will be a specific document that would be universally recognized as evidence of his legitimacy because Rhaegar was already married and had an heir. So, even if Martin wrote in a marriage for the sake of playing with the secret prince / heir to a dynasty idea for the reader’s sake, that doesn’t mean happy acceptance in-world. I’ve said the same about Robb’s will, it matters more what the Northern Lords say, how they weigh their competing interests and the threats they’re facing, rather than the specific words Robb wrote. Also, we have Aegon and Dany, so even if R/L were married and there was proof, after two other Targs pop up and war over the throne, I can't see people being moved by that? I would think they'd be sick of Targs no matter how sure people were about Jon’s identity.
Although, I could see the Northerners believing Jon is Rhaegar's son because a) they all already know Rhaegar kidnapped Lyanna and b) it doesn't really make sense for Ned to have fathered a bastard, so once Bran breaks it to Jon and/or Howland confirms it, I think they'll accept it because it would feel possible? Feel true? And obviously, we would know it’s true. So if this is about the Northen tangle, we don't need much. Actually, I just realized some people might spread it to try to undermine Jon/the Starks. 👀
I often just see these things as having a lot of potential paths and not knowing which direction is more appealing to Martin. He likes "the human heart in conflict with itself" so Jon being offered his dearest wish (being a legitimate son of Ned Stark) only for that to be absolute hell because he's falling in love with the man's daughter, well, that might be fun for him to write. But then comes R+L=J, and if he wants to be with Sansa, Jon needs that information to come out. If he's rejected Winterfell when Stannis offered it, rejected Winterfell even though Robb wanted him to take it, if he then can press his (Targ) legitimacy without displacing a beloved family member and in doing so, it might allow him to be with Sansa? That’s an angle. Or if he is KitN, he’d be highly motivated to keep that a secret for the sake of stability in the North, regardless of his feelings….I really can’t say. And I don’t remember anything in Sam’s chapters that made me think he’d find a diary, although the fact that Jon is forcing him to do something he doesn’t want to do makes the idea that he finds something and runs, potentially screwing Jon over kinda interesting. Actually, it’s always been a favored idea that he plays a hand in Jon rising to another position of power because of his part in getting Jon to be Lord Commander, so there is that! I guess I need to reread AFFC the whole series with a list of my new questions. 😅

I tend to treat my dragonformers stuff a bit more like a loose speculative biology project. It’s less on making up species, though some characters who look similar or are siblings in the canon often look similar to each other in the au too, but more about how a characteristic could be implemented into a fantastical design. For example, Optimus’ lower jaw is both his axe and battle mask, or Drift’s swords being modified fifth fingers with special tendons that lock the digit into rest or extended positions.
Some of the little lore I’ve built up is also from the spec bio side of the au. Which is actually why I was initially making this post. I think.
For some reason, I usually prefer four limbs max on my dragon designs. I dunno, I guess it’s a fun barrier to work around and makes the dragons feel at least a little more plausible if they were real?
So in the dragon au, there are two main ways dragons are born. The traditional way, and artificially created.
Natural born dragons will always have 4 or less limbs, and grow at a more natural rate. Artificial dragons, which are created using stollen dragon eggs, can have more than 4 limbs and are almost instantly grown and independent. A few minutes after hatching they undergo a very rapid growth spurt and can be sent off to do whatever they were designed to do, be it mining, warfare or something else.
Currently the way I have the au set up in my mind, dragons live alongside humans, and it is the humans that create artificial dragons for their own purposes since they cannot really tame the natural dragons. They’re too intelligent, stubborn and dangerous to allow themselves to be seen as ‘lesser’ than humans.
Even with their created dragons, humans often struggle to keep them in line when things go wrong. It can take just one event or one individual dragon to stir rebellious behavior and inspire a sense of self preservation. When such things happen, humans of course have created tools and methods to both defend themselves and punish their rebellious creations.
The dragons themselves, while intelligent, are still more animalistic in behavior and don’t have a unified society. So Autobots and Decepticons don’t exist in the way they do in canon, it’s more of how dragons want to deal with humans and how they view them.
Optimus, as an example again, isn’t keen on fighting humans much. He will obviously fight back if any try to attack him, but he’s not looking to fight them. He will leave them alone if they leave him alone, but will defend either dragons or humans if he is able to. Kind of depends on what is going on.
Megatron loathes humans. He bears scars on his ankles from chains and has been victim to their worse side in his younger years. He sees no reason why humans shouldn’t be reminded of where they belong in the natural order, as lesser and weaker prey items. From what he’s seen and experienced, humans do not see other creatures as intelligent or worthy of respect, they only care about what they can gain from them, like tools, cosmetics, etc.

The Rookie 518 specumalation...
SO. MANY. THOUGHTS.
UC Chenford is like, my absolute favourite thing, and seeing Jake and Sava again…. Urgh, it’s bringing back all the memories of last summer (the good parts, obvs - the theories and the creativity and the craziness…)
I don’t usually like to speculate on episodes - I just like to let them happen. No point getting bogged down or upset if things don’t happen the way you’d like, and as a community, we can often get caught up in little details that just make us mad at one another 🤯.
THAT SAID, I have no problem doing *fun guessing*, or wondering how certain teasers connect. And since we have a hiatus and this is my favourite subject, let’s go down the rabbit hole…
I actually originally thought they may have taken the clips of Lucy’s interview in the station from last year’s Real Crime ep, but I checked and they did not (different lighting and angles). This is a part where I’m not majorly interested in guessing, but perhaps they do not interview Tim at the start, to keep up the fear factor, so Lucy is interviewed on her own. Followed by her and Tim interviewed at her apartment when it’s revealed he’s not dead. Or perhaps he’s there beside her and it’s just cropped. Not a spec to worry about either way.
Who the redhead is with Tim and Aaron, or why there’s a puff of smoke, I have no idea. But Tim looks good.
NOW.
This is where it gets interesting.
I think Jake gets out of jail (see barbed wire and “this is a high security” sign), and that the lovely image we’re all fainting over is actually really Jake and Sava, not UC Tim and Lucy, or any version of Dim and Juicy. I’m interested to see if Jake has lost weight too, or if his fling with the waitress in Vegas is brought up…
There are a few possibilities here, but I think, basically, there’s an issue between Jake and the guy we see him beating up in the alley. I can’t tell if Jake is really dead, or if the death is a setup by LAPD (if it’s a setup, I want happy Jake and Sava in the sunset afterwards 🌇). It could be some kind of triple cross con, where they pretend they think Tim is dead, but it turns out to be fake Jake. Meanwhile, real Jake is safe somewhere and he meets Sava at the end.
Anyway, he’s probably really dead (which is very, very sad 😭) and the story we’re left with is Lucy going UC as Sava to figure it out. Meanwhile, real Sava is bopping around on her own, devastated by the death of her OTL. (‘Bopping’ and ‘devastated’ should not be used to describe the same moment of time for a character, but here we are. 🤷♀️) I think Lopez and Harper take her into the station to tell her about Jake’s death and, maybe, put her into protection for Lucy to go UC.
I think Sava on the bench meeting Beard Guy is actually Lucy, and I can’t be fully sure if Beard Guy is also Alleyway Guy. Possibly. But surely there are more characters involved.
The spoken lines are cut up all over the place. Listen with good speakers, don’t watch the picture, and you’ll hear it. I’m not fully convinced that just because “Tim just disappeared” sounds slightly English means it’s Sava. When Lopez and Harper meet (probably) Sava in the beginning, she doesn’t have an English accent there.
Because of that, I have no inkling whether that’s Lucy or Sava. The only thing is, at the porch, she has her phone out, and the Lucy in the car crash does too. That’s obviously to facilitate the footage for the documentary, but I’m feeling slightly more like it might be Sava because of that.
I don’t know at what point the car crash fits into anything. I can’t tell if it’s Lucy or Sava, and the clothes and hair don’t match any of the other images we have of her. I think something hits her from behind while she’s on a video call, and I think she might be in the front passenger’s seat, but that’s all I can tell from that.
OKAY OKAY, NOW.
The most interesting bit! (According to me!)
What the hell is that massive house?!
There’s no way it’s Jake and Sava’s, so it might be something to do with Alleyway/Beard Guy (slash Jake’s murderer?!). It’s unlikely to be connected to the redhead lady scene, because Tim no longer has his vest on, and the neighbourhood looks entirely different. Either way, Tim and Sava/Lucy are not alone in there.
When Tim finds the secret door, someone is filming (perhaps Aaron’s bodycam/Sava’s phone?) and a third person appears in front of Tim - you get a split second of their hand. So it’s not like he’s hanging out alone, babysitting a grieving Sava, however interesting that might be.
My (second!) favourite thing from this promo was something I missed entirely on every other viewing, until I took the screencaps for this essay. THERE’S A HIDDEN ROOM FULL OF TREASURE. Or something. Probably something more boring, like notes, or art, or a dead body.
Maybe Jake was involved in some sort of heist for this stuff, got killed, LAPD got involved, Lucy goes UC as Sava, while Sava helps out on the LAPD side. Something goes wrong for Lucy (car crash?) and the team have to follow their own leads. Sava gives them this house address and they find the secret passage, but Tim falls through some sort of trap door. He may find the secret room on his own, or maybe they find it together.
Add to all this that set decorator and gentle spoiler man, William DeBiasio hinted that one or other of Chenford are in danger in this episode (just trust me - the tweet tree is too big to repost at this stage!), and the remaining one is worried about them. Because we hear “Tim just disappeared”, and because nothing bad has happened to him so far in the series, I’ve been assuming that the bad thing would happen to him. But really, it would make more sense if it happened to Lucy (back to the car crash/UC issue).
And then it would be Tim taking care of Lucy at her apartment. And since we see the cameras when Sava arrives at the station, Lucy's uniformed interview could be before the op takes place, while the interview at her apartment is afterwards.
Eric Winter was also asked in a cameo message why Lucy would do a documentary about UC, and thus broadcast her face to any potential criminals. He said “it’s all explained” in the episode.
Myself, I have a constant little racket in my head that reminds me “light drama, light drama, light drama”. The Rookie is not a very serious show, and we let a lot of inconsistencies slide. I’ve been letting the True Crime episodes exist outside reality, and just don’t think very deeply about how they affect the ongoing plot. I also love the True Crime episodes, and I cannot understand why people don’t! (You are completely allowed to not like them, I’m just letting you know where I stand!)
So with Eric saying Lucy talking in public about UC is “explained”, I’m wondering if something happens… like she gives up on UC? I’ve not been one of the people who thinks she dislikes it. I never got that feeling from her character. But maybe something in this episode changes her mind; or maybe I’ve been misreading her feelings.
Then again, it may be as simple as - someone uploaded her picture online (at the crash, or somewhere else public). Or Sava was broadcasting the whole thing (and that’s why we keep seeing her on her phone). So Lucy’s face (as Sava) is already out there, and it doesn’t matter in the context of this documentary.

As you may be able to tell by now, I am super, super, SUPER excited about this ep. Some of my favourite bits of everything are going to be in it, and the only cherry that could make it even better would be some form of Chenford kiss. Imagine, less than one season on from 422, and I’m feeling deprived that we haven’t had a kiss in the last few episodes (goddamn that bug the actors got after 512……)
Now that I’ve typed this thesis, watch someone drop a new promo/spoiler that completely negates the entire thing.

You’ve probably answered this before, but do you have any advice for anyone wanting to make their own spec bio species? I tried making my own but I feel like they’re too humanoid of designs but that’s also what I’m most comfortable with😔

I found that finding a shape, even the most ‘unusable,’ ‘un-animal-able’ shape around you, and then replicating that shape as accurately as you can in a sinch (no streamlining! Shaky messed up lines are ENCOURAGED, living things are all imperfect squiggles, so minimize your erases and undos!) can help with silhouette ideas.
(The reason for that is that instead of deleting a ‘bad’ drawing outright, you can start anew or copy only the parts you liked, and then boom! You’ve got one drawing you’re happy with and another you’ll more likely than not return to in the future, however far.)
(A dozen fast, improvised designs can beat out a single painstakingly planned one. It seems counterintuitive that quantity can be better than quality, but that’s only if you know the quality ahead of time! When it comes to concept art, more is better at the very beginning.)
Once you’ve replicated a handful of shapes, don’t add eyes and ears. In fact, don’t draw anything you’d think of as something an animal would have. The frequent fallbacks are tails, claws, paws, toes, ears, horns, fur, wings, joints, teeth, snouts, and hexapedal, quadrupedal, and bipedal bodies with heads in the front. These things are not universal, they are just our earthly scope of our closest relatives.
Modeling an alien species after insects, birds, reptiles, or sea life will make your alien nonhuman, but still earthling. These categories won’t necessarily arise in an alien world. Evolution doesn’t produce birds as we know them, evolution takes the most convenient source material and produces something to fill the niches birds occupy, and birds happened to be that source material.
I like to think about building a species like building a robot. How does a robot know where it’s going? Light sensors, maybe. Those don’t need to be orbs, or even at the front. How do some robots move? They don’t necessarily need spines or toes or claws or tails. How is fuel acquired? Lots of earth animals happen to have a hole in the front that sucks it in and breaks it up for refinement. Does it only have to be this way?
The more you separate life from Earth and relate it more to processes, means to the goal of continuing one’s design’s existence, creating more and more alien but still feasibly alive creatures becomes easier.
Above all, it should be fun. Researching biological precedent and basis from actual animals isn’t absolutely required, because those processes are based on logic—through which you can invent (or accidentally independently replicate) your own symbioses, organs, life cycles, and body chemistries.
Earth nature is like a template: working too closely from it can make you something that’s feasible, but could be recognizably earthly. Imagination is like raw resources: difficult to refine into something that makes total sense at first (from a lack of reference and guidance), but, with the right balance of templates and shots in the dark—you can make something positively, confidently alien!
You don’t have to do this if you don’t want to of course! It’s not a rule set, and you aren’t doing anything wrong if you don’t do them. The ultimate goal is to enjoy creating, not just the end result. Your aliens should be fun for you to draw. The amount of worldbuilding you want to do is your choice alone and no one else’s. Stopping at a single species, culture, planet is perfectly OK. Don’t let guides or other worlds pressure you into making more than you’re craving to.
If you ever make any drafts, however small, I’d love to see them. I’m always down to hear about people’s alien ideas, I sometimes throw in some fan art to help out. I wish you the best of luck, fun, and ease.

i don’t know who else to share these thoughts with, so i’m sending them your way — they’re both stretches maybe, but things i keep thinking about
firstly, it’s just spec at this point, but i’ve always been a fan of the trapped dads theory and would love to see it in the finale. and if they’re going to, boy wouldn’t that be a fun, and by fun i mean heart breaking, time to revisit the line about how any door can be opened with enough time and the right tools. especially! given the time motif we see pop up w buck and eddie
secondly, the scene w everyone greeting buck in his hospital room after hes woken up — i’ve seen people discuss how physically closed off eddie is, laughing and practically glowing honestly, but keeping his distance and not actually touching buck. but i also love how he pushes christopher forward. he puts chris in front of him, both i think to let him be the first to hug buck and to keep some of that distance. and then he guides chris into bucks arms and keeps an arm on chris the whole time chris is hugging buck. a physical metaphor i think for the will and their coparenting situation — i’m inviting you into my sons life, but i’m still holding on to him, we’re doing it together. and also a tether and almost hug by proxy. i wouldn’t go as far to say that he’s hiding behind chris, but it’s a near thing.
anyway, sorry that got long! not really questions, just my interpretations of a few things that i would love to hear someone else’s thoughts on.

Well, I'm not gonna lie, I'd really love to see that scenario in the finale as well. I'm not gonna gamble at this point on whether it will happen or not, because as always I want to keep my expectations low (and I fully believe that helps me be less disappointed by the eps themselves), but if we do get it? I have no doubt that we will FEAST.
As for that final scene, you might have seen in my 611 meta that I think Buck hugging Chris with Eddie watching was an absolutely wonderful call back to the way Buck was watching Eddie hugging Chris in 414. But it's more than that, actually. Because Eddie is this reserved guy, who did try to hold back on his feelings for his son's sake in Buck's hospital room and he failed. He was that overwhelmed by his distress over the possibility of losing Buck. So just imagine the opposite, the INFINITE relief Eddie felt when Buck woke up. Eddie must have felt like he would explode with joy! And if it's too much, if he tries to hold back on this too, how would he still find an outlet for it? We know sometimes when Eddie can't say what he feels for Buck, like during the grocery argument in 315, he uses Chris. So that's what he does in 611, too. He enables and remains a part of Chris hugging Buck because that is an extension of him doing that.

i need to break up with him even if nothing else material changes about our relationship (ideal) bc it is the only fair thing to do but i don’t think there’s any way for it to happen which won’t be painful bc i think i am gonna break his heart . and it just sucks SO bad bc i wouldn’t have gotten into a relationship if i didn’t genuinely think it was what i wanted and if it was gonna work with Anybody it would’ve been him but there’s nothing like experience to teach you that those things that theoretically sound fun really don’t work in practice and you are more aromantic every passing day and well. it’s just not fair to him. or to me. tbh. but i am SO scared of people taking sides and it affecting people’s opinions of one or both of us esp off of assumption and i don’t want to be the bad guy for something i can’t control but also i feel like people r also gonna assume its bc of something he did. and its Not. and everyone saying not to date in the department was so right actually. and i’m still not gonna do it right away when we get back but also i’m sure putting it off is only gonna make it worse (<- the put-off-er). um and i do really love him. i do. but it’s not romantic and i don’t think it ever can be. i really just don’t think it’s something i have access to. and i have been upfront about being aro-spec so it’s not like i’ve been lying to him on that front in any way but i think it manifests Very differently in us and i just. can’t do it. and ohhggod it hurts so bad and i don’t wanna deal with it! and i have just gone through the past three months feeling increasingly guilty over trying to make it work and failing. bc even if i could fall in love with him the way he wants i don’t think we’re romantically compatible! but oh my god i don’t wanna lose him as a friend. okay. whatever. thoughts. mildly purged. maybe i can stop overthinking it every second of the day when there is literally nothing i can do rn to make it better

I remember being told that I was being way too critical in stating that the beach would not be Buddie related and well we saw the episode….spec and meta used to be fun but that was before people started staking all their hopes and dreams on it every week only for nothing of the sort to happen. And it is getting really tiring being told that you “don’t understand long form storytelling and lack critical think skills because of this.” When it’s like actually many of us do we just have a different opinion of how some of these arcs will progress but if it’s not in line with “mainstream” opinions then it is completely wrong.
The downside of being in a fandom that lives and dies by what's happening behind the scenes, huh?
You get one pic, one rumor, and people run to the blogs they "trust" for speculation, and because these blogs are (often) well-known and overly positive...their word becomes fact with zero evidence to back it up, lol. "Longform storytelling" only becomes an excuse when what they wanted to/thought was gonna happen...doesn't!
If anything, keeping our expectations low is helping us look more in-tune with the show and the direction it's going week-to-week, right? :P

Reed: This is actually very easy(as seen here), there's a solid 90% chance he's going to blush if he's given pretty much any affection.
Mercy: Overall not much - she’s never been the type to blush easily and ghoulification cut back on it even more. It’s pretty much only if she’s flustered or very pissed off.
Delta: They also don’t blush very easily - pretty much the only thing that causes it is if they’re embarrassed, and that doesn’t happen often.
34. Do they have any guilty pleasures? How guilty do they feel about it?
Reed: Gossiping. He’s especially terrible about it any time he’s at Boston Airport and frequently has shit-talking sessions with whoever he’s working with(typically higher-ups, since they always have more dirt on people). He refuses to acknowledge that he’s gossiping but has no issues with referring to it as “collecting intel”.
Mercy: Nice prewar dresses. They’re very impractical for her lifestyle but she gets really into dressing up whenever she goes to the strip. She thinks it’s a bit unnecessary, but she does it anyways since it’s fun.
Delta: Collecting prewar toys. They just think they’re neat and they really want to get more pristine ones to go with the pristine giddy up buttercup they found. Like Mercy, they know it’s kind of silly but they keep doing it anyways.

Reed: This is probably going to be the most obnoxiously niche dog thing possible, but anyways: rex specs x pit viper limited edition collab, so he can match with Margot- and yes, they're both going to look like assholes, but it's fine. Mercy: This extremely expensive poncho, some over-the-top knife, and at least two cocktail dresses. In that exact order.
Delta: They would go completely balls to the wall feral and buy like the entire Adafruit website. I just know it, and I know that I would have severe credit card debt because of it.

Wow you guys weren't kidding when you said those people are obsessed with Arya and her being pretty or whatever. I was interested in the post but then it just devolves into random rambling about Arya and how she looks as pretty as Lyanna and- I'm sorry but how is any of that important and why are they so pressed about it?
Also- accusing people of reducing Lyanna to a sex slave to Rhaegar??? When did that happen? Or are they pressed because people rightfully bring up how the R/L shit isn't romantic? Thats not 'reducing' Lyanna, thats calling the horrible thing that happened to her what is it. Twisting it into a star crossed lovers story or romanticizing it is even WORSE and just makes her into someone who's apparently so in love with Rhaegar she's willing to RUN AWAY WITHOUT TELLING HER FAMILY to be with him. Thats not any better and just reduce her to her relationship with that albino prince. HE'S not the most important aspect of Lyanna's character, her relationship with her FAMILY is.
I don't delve into ASOIAF tags much but good grief, no wonder you block a lot lmao. That one post was enough for me. That faction of the fandom seems unhinged and not in a fun way

Arya fans tend to be very aggressive, and I often don’t think their rage makes much sense. Arya was incredibly popular on the show, but they used to make these angry posts about how everyone ignored her which made no sense to me until I realized, they meant because no one but their circle believes she will a) have a romance with Jon, b) become QitN. People write about the themes in her story, there’s lots of spec now about her endgame, none of it is enough. It’s the same way everyone acknowledges her and Sansa’s fraught relationship, but they claim it’s ignored because unless you say Sansa was a bully, you’re doing it wrong.
I don’t know anything about that particular blogger, but a lot of Jonry@s believe Lyanna went willingly with Rhaegar and ship them. This one sounded different to me, like they did want to emphasize her family instead, but minimizing what she went through during the last year of her life isn’t how that’s done.
Although, my heterodox belief is that I’m now pretty convinced that Lyanna went with Rhaegar willingly. I had a series of asks about Targ stuff popping up in Sansa chapters which changed my mind about how R/L unfolded. I think Martin gave us parts of Lyanna’s story in Sansa’s:

Sansa’s “betrayal” of her family (which I don’t actually consider one but you know) isn’t a necessary part of Ned dying (he had already gone to Cersei), but it would allow for a point of connection between her and Lyanna. Sansa wanted her prince (a Baratheon) so she defied her father, Lyanna didn’t want her Baratheon so ran with her prince, defying her father. There are lots of parallels and even direct comparisons between Sansa and Lyannna, so I think it’s likely to lay the groundwork for later revelations about R+L=J.
Also, Lyanna is a play on the Virgin Mary and Rhaegar has some similarities to the Biblical King David (the jealous, crazy guy he’s meant to replace, the harp playing, stealing another man’s “wife,” the “savior” coming from his bloodline etc), so even though Martin has given him an ulterior motivation with Lyanna (he did take advantage, he isn’t being whitewashed), I’m thinking there are more interesting ideas in there than strictly infatuated prince or sadistic, rapist, bastard. That idea, well, I just don’t think Martin’s been spinning out his R/L story this long for the conclusion to be that Robert Baratheon was right all along. I don’t think Dany’s view of Rhaegar is correct either, imo, it’s a mixture.
It’s still a pretty disturbing story, almost like a horror version of the archetypal virgin mother? What can you do when an all-powerful being decides you’re his incubator? It’s def still a possibility Martin takes that to the darkest possible place, but my expectation of getting Jonsa makes me think Lyanna’s reaction to/potential feelings for Rhaegar shouldn’t be brushed aside. Sansa is charmed by Joffrey’s singing, we know Lyanna wept over Rhaegar’s. Jon is hit pretty hard by Ygritte’s singing as well, so that’s a specific thing Martin likes to use as part of romantic relationships. The bigger idea behind Rhaegar may be what a prophecy / the belief of being the chosen one and then the belief you must create the chosen one…an examination of what you can do to achieve that end, the wrong you can justify in its pursuit. Even so, I’m pretty sure there will be more nuance than either “side” of the convo likes to offer because Martin writes that into most of his villains, and I’m sure he intended to with Rhaegar as well.
I personally hate Rhaegar, I’ll never forgive him for what happened to Rhaenys which is just, the most brutal of lines to me,
It was Ser Amory who brought me the girl's body, if you must know. He found her hiding under her father's bed, as if she believed Rhaegar could still protect her
and he really annoys me because he had power to do something about his dad and the fate of Westeros and just, fucked everything up in the most egregious, offensive, public way he could? All the same, how I feel is a distinct thing from what Martin intended. 🤷🏻♀️

I think it’s really important to understand that when most of us do spec before episodes, we don’t do it because we think it’s actually going to happen. we do it because it’s fun. we’ve all made this community talking about our silly weewoo show together and all the spec and the fics and all are us sharing our love for the show together. the reason we all love and enjoy the episodes that come after the spec is because we don’t actually believe it’s going to happen.
didn’t like that eddie wasn’t in the episode a lot? that's fair. i wish we saw more of him too. but that’s my eddie girlie speaking, and im always going to wish for more eddie. still reasonable enough to understand why eddie was’t there, and still reasonable enough to not think im being baited about it. be upset, that’s fine. don’t blame it on the show for not being a fanfic.
because honestly? I genuinely and whole-heartedly believe in buddie and I will continue believing in buddie until the last fucking moment. but this isn’t the buddie show, and understanding that is so much better for your own enjoyment of the show AND the relationship.

@emmedoesntdomath has kinda gotten me in a life preserver on the Bumlets and Skittery boat. VERY LOOSELY ON BOARD.
I still think Skittery and Blink would make a wonderful pair
Also, let me be very clear:
Blush is one of my top pairings.
But I also have the idea that once Spralbert becomes a thing, the newsies kinda go wild before they settle into actual relationships.
That being said, let’s get into my thoughts™️
Skittery is really quiet, so if they get loud, people listen. Anything they say is usually taken into account by someone.
Skittery is scared of a lot, but they’re brave as fuck dude. They might be scared of the thug that hangs out near their nightly sellin spot, but that doesn’t stop them marching right past him.
They got addicted to smoking at a young age. Younger than most of the newsies. The older kids usually try and keep the little ones from smoking. At least until they’re teens, but Skittery had snatched a pack from a store down the street when they were six. They haven’t stopped since.
They get put into the Refuge a lot for stealing. They have the stickiest fingers. They have a hoard like a little dragon. I won’t tell you where it is. I choose life, thx
Anyone lucky enough to see said hoard is sworn to secrecy, and will be found and… questioned if anything is missing.
Before becoming a newsie, they were on the streets. Abandoned by their parents at the ripe age of five. They were in and out of jail, going between eating well for days and not eating at all for a week. And then they snuck into the newsboys’ house. (And by snuck in I absolutely mean Kloppman pretended not to see them being snuck in by one of the older newsies).
Started hawkin with said older newsie, and learned how to play to the strengths of the headlines (after they were comfortable just playing the poor orphan card)
Got close with Specs and Mush early on bc they felt protected (even though they totally didn’t need protecting)
Likes taking things as pranks.
Has def moved Specs’ glasses. Not enough to no be found, but enough to be noticed.
They start giving their mostly-smoked cigs to Bumlets (and that’s how he got his name)
Bumlets and Skittery are at the very least best friends.
THEY FIDGET. THEY FIDGET SO MUCH. GODS. CIG IN HAND, HAT ON HEAD, SUSPENDERS (theirs or otherwise) IT DOESN’T MATTER. THEY ARE ALWAYS MOVING.
Modern AU things
Ghost hunting. Abandoned building exploring.
Got their nickname from being the worst about getting scared by the most mundane shit happening. Like a bird flies by and they just like s c r e a m.
Takes Mush and Blink the most because they’re the most fun to explore with, but Albert and Finch are a close second because of their chaos.
