Under-Sartosa, The Skaven-Pirate City-Warren

Nonstop running. That’s all the last few day, few weeks, had been. Nonstop fleeing, nonstop hiding, scurrying. Heliinx was lucky that her lizardman was literally tireless. Not as fast or stealthy as the eshin-rats, but able to keep up with them nonethless. They found themselves now past the Arabyan coast, deep beneath the pirate city of Sartosa with the ratkin that had taken up residence there.

Sartosa. A haven for outcasts, criminals, and other undesirables running from the legitimate powers of the world. It was here Heliinx found herself pressed into a small warren-bar, regaling an entire chamber of half-drunk skaven with their tales of escape and perserverence. With some details omited, fluffed over, and of course her own heroic deeds such as “outwitting a bloodthirster” and “duelling a daemon prince of slaanesh” embellished of course.

All Grey Seers were natural orators and as such, Heliinx had the iron command of every ear in the bar. Whether they believed her was another story, but no one was willing to squeak against her, wary of her station and the unblinking wall of scale and muscle sitting behind her, looking at all of them in turn with it’s pale eyes. “ How-how did she fit that thing in here?” Had been whispered into more than one ear.

Better yet, the tales of her exploits hadn’t reached ears here and few questioned the collar still fastened about her neck or even her mutations. Everyone knew ratmen dealt in Warpstone and that came with...sideffects.

The eight of them had rented one of the larger burrow-dens in the city for no small amount of warpstone. Heliinx was sure to keep her retinue happy; a happy, provided for skaven was less likely to turn a knife on her while she dreamed and more likely to offer a thick ear to any unsavory rumors.

She was enjoying herself. The stink of new skaven, overlaid by the constant reek of warp-beer and other spirits. The strange accents of these ratfolks, the new clans she had never heard of before. Even the local cuisine: various marine lifeforms (and the odd luckless man, woman or child from the city above). It was all new and fresh and she found herself thriving and forgetting her problems for a time. For the most part. There were still the side-effects of the dreams that cursed Slaaneshi-thing had burdened her with, but between Rinki and the breed-males of Sartosa, there were no shortage of ways for Heliinx to solve that problem.

The one who’s services she had purchased that day was especially fine. Bright eyes, sleek of fur (black-- dyed; someone here had a thing for Stormvermin), minimal scars, bruises, mutations, all his teeth and a long tail. He seemed excited as she, though it curdled when he ducked into her warren and saw the big Lizardman staring at him. 

“ H-how can I service-pleasure lady-seer?” He quivered, never taking his eyes off the threat. Heliinx’s grin was cruel.

“ Not me-me. Him-him.” She gestured at the Lizardman, then took a seat in one of the warren chairs. “ I watch-watch.”

your first fandom(s): i usually say supernatural, but fuck it, i think it was spartacus. i may have engaged with it in a very different way, but i was hyperfixated as hell. i went to my first and only fan conventions. by myself! i never want to go to fan conventions! so yeah. spartacus.

your current fandom(s): shameless, and to a lesser degree these days, supernatural

how did you first get into fandom? hyperfixated on a show, stumbled upon the fandom side of tumblr, did not make a tumblr but lurked a little bit, decided fic was cringey and that i didn't like reading it (it was a v small fandom with not a lot of quality content), hyperfixated on another show and decided to try reading fic again, had my entire world rocked to its core, made a blog, been around ever since.

how long have you been engaging with fandom spaces? like nine years?

how often do you read fanfics? i'd say every day, usually when i'm in bed.

you’re trying to convince a friend to get into your current fandom(s) with you. what episode, clip, or scene are you showing them? okay so i actually did this with one of my closest irl friends and she got...possibly more into supernatural than i am, and she reads destiel fic, and has had intense gallavich fic phases as well. and it was actually super easy lol. she just has the same kind of brain that i have, and i just had to tell her to watch the shows because i knew they'd fuck her up the same way they fucked me up. she saw my reaction after november 5th 2020 and wanted to know everything, so i told her everything, and she started watching spn the next day. i watched shameless a couple months later and lost my entire mind, and all i had to do was tell her that she NEEDED to watch it, and she started watching it right away. i think if i had to show her a specific scene though, it probably would've been mickey coming out in 4x11. iconic, legendary. she would've eaten that up even with no context. also special shoutout to this friend, because she's the person who taught me to not be embarrassed about being interested in fic, or fandom in general. i always thought she was so brave for being open about her hyperfixations in her everyday life, like for real lol. i still struggle with it, but i've gotten more open about it because of her.

and finally, what does fandom mean to you? a community of some of my best friends, and the place where i learned that i can actually be a creative person. i'm doing all kinds of fulfilling things with my life because of this space 🥹
