Once I head someone say Sarah is the only really necessary or meaningful female character, and that Nazz and the Kankers are pretty much disposable; ''Nazz has no personality, and the Kankers are absent from 50% of episodes and are just a Diabolous ex-machina ending when they appear. The could work very well without any of them.''
What do you think of this?
are they implying that she's only "meaningful" because she's related to ed? because...yikes dog. sarah serves a pretty similar role to the kankers in that she foils the scams and pranks and acts as an obstacle and/or deterrent. an antagonist. but the way they fulfill the role and the reaction they get from the eds are different in ways that i'm too lazy to get into at the moment.
now i could genuinely be missing something because i've never taken a class on media analysis or whatever the fuck, but i truly don't get what people mean when they say nazz is uniquely lacking in personality. i'm not saying eene has excellent, fleshed out female characters, but some people act as if 1) any of the non-eds have highly complex personalities that are explored canonically 2) being kind, outgoing, flirtatious, sporty, etc. aren't personality traits. just because someone doesn't like her personality doesn't mean it doesn't exist. and we know just as much, if not more about nazz's interests than we do the kankers. or jonny: he likes wood, is laid back and seems to enjoy superheroes. or kevin: he likes bmx. he's a bully. he has a crush on nazz. he's buds with rolf, whose backstory we probably know the most about after the eds (maybe even more?). then there's jimmy who lowkey has a great, complex personality.
seems like since nazz is pretty, is into stereotypically "girly" things and is nice, people consider her a "bad" (female) character. which to me is hilarious and ironic. these are the same people who call the kankers "evil". like okay... 😂
this idea that all female characters are supposed to be virtuous geniuses... it's a show about 3 dumbass preteen boys. there are tons of female-led shows available out there, and female main characters galore. these people should go watch em. seriously. im tired of hearing about it frankly.
oh and if edd was canonically a girl, people would hate her and call her a mary sue 👍

I still genuinely believe that playing Granblue for love is the most enjoyable way to play it, as in, I got into the game because of specific characters and then fell in love with more of the world
But I also have to believe there's an incredible sense of vindication in loving a character who's also just objectively good in the meta? Like, you love them and they're good and you can use them to beat difficult enemies, you can fight "with" them in a sense
Like, I'm happy when someone in the hivemind mentions building a party out of blorbos and it working well. I love that and I'm happy to hear it. There's soul and heart in it and not just grinding for the sake of grinding
Then again, I'm a pretty low level player and I know I'm not built for the HL stuff
I think everyone has their own reasons to play gbf or any game, but it's easy to lose sight of the fact different types of players exist (and the (mutual) contempt or even gatekeeping that often follows in its wake).
Personally I do need a strong incentive to pick up a game. I was on and off gbf for years until Sandalphon hooked me fully-- but I had my eye on a bunch of other characters even before him, I just needed a push.
So perhaps shockingly I am also into gbf because I love the characters, I just swing back and forth a lot between objectives.
At the end of the day it's about how you have fun. Progression isn't linear nor is it required.
I kind of ended up writing way too much in response so I'll put it under a read more.........
So like, as someone who's fairly high up in the content and does things both for meta and faves?
The thing with meta is that for most of all characters, it shifts over time. Characters fall in and out of meta or may get new alts that are or aren't meta. Even characters everyone thinks of as top tier have places where they aren't that great. Don't get me wrong, it's definitely awesome when your fave is meta-- but designing teams around your fave to make them perform alongside or in spite of meta is vindicating too. I really think any character can perform in general content.
Generally meta isn't the damning end-all it may seem, far from it. I think meta only has chokehold on 2 things. Racing (getting the most points, either for events like Unite & Fight or something like racing for points for chests in raids) and whatever the 'true' endgame content is at the time. But even for those, there are always options, and as time goes on we get more resources to work with, making teams more flexible.
That said, I do enjoy figuring out teams for specific fights like they're puzzle pieces. I get more enjoyment when I fit my favorites in there, but initially the reward is in figuring out a team to begin with. I'm a bit in between faves and meta, though lately I've been leaning much more into my faves. I find that I'm okay with running 1 fave on a team if the meta makes it possible for me to run that character, and then I'll gradually slot in more faves when I can. But that's me. My whole wind team frontline for endgame is faves, and arguably only 1 of those, Seofon, is true meta for some of that content. (Yes I do love Kaguya for her design). Outside of that frontliner team, I'm able to run even more faves!
I also enjoy building teams to make the lives of my friends easier, I can either run raids for them or help them figure out teams, often including their faves when I can. I'd go as far as to say that most of the game can easily be played with your favorites, with more and more restrictions starting to apply the higher you go in terms of difficulty. And that's okay. You don't have to play those. Or you might eventually play those and figure that yeah, if it's just for this fight, the team doesn't matter that much when it helps you get things to invest into your faves. It might even let you discover a new favorite if you experiment.
It's good to know the type of player you are and play the way that works for you. Like me, this can also change over time or depending on your mood. There's no reason to bother with HL content or break your head over things that aren't fun. If you enjoy logging in and playing your Omega raids with your faves and signing back out, great. If you find yourself wanting to take on Bahamut with your faves, also great. Hell, if you sign in just to look at your home screen character, sigh lovingly, and go to sleep, also also great.
gbf does get pretty grindy if you let it, but it can be spaced out or made easier, too. Personally I let my game run on full auto 95% of the time, designing teams around this in order to make my faves stronger and content easier as I go. If you struggle to come up with your own teams, store-bought (youtube, wiki, guides) is fine.
I'll admit my own main problem is time, I struggle to keep up with the world I fell in love with and may not have the time or patience for that for a while. So I really enjoy seeing the activity on Icha's blog for that reason and staying in the loop through that.
At the end of the day it's about how you have fun. Progression isn't linear nor is it required.

“However, this year is different. This year marks the very first Quarter Quell, and parents don't have to worry about whether their children might be taken away because, for this once-in-a-lifetime event, they get to choose who goes into the arena.” Why was Juniper chose? I just realized this.
About a year before the games, there was a group that was stealing some of the crops and goods that District 11 produced and was giving them to the people/families that weren't able to work. It was a kind of a well-known secret throughout District 11 that if you needed help/food, you'd seek someone out who was part of the group, and they'd help. Junipers older brother, Wynn, had landed himself into a position where he was in trouble with the peacekeepers and offered up the names of the members in this group in exchange for a pardon. After the deal was made, word got out of who exposed the group very quickly, and from that point forward, people were very cold towards Juniper and their family.
When the Quell was announced, the people of District 11 saw as an opportunity to take revenge for what Wynn did, so they voted Juniper into the games

I’m starting to kinda simp for ur characters but I’m afraid to because i don’t know which ones are personas or not
That's alright! Sona or not I'm fine with any simping of my characters 💙 (so long as they're the adults)
If you do wanna know all my sonas though, it's a bit of a list but! As follows:
Human(kind of..); Mocha/Latte, Latha/Ellise, Momo
Monster: Alkai/Altair/Aziral, Scout/Flout, Ridley, Muave, Raz, Axel, Fitz
There's at least one piece of art of all the sonas, except for Fitz and both Mocha and Latte, technically yes for Mocha but not an updated reference or actual tag
If you have anymore questions though, feel free to ask! ^^

I voted for stoncy having a chat but please tag me in any and everything!
sorry this took so long, i totally forgot i worked all weekend lol. so far yours was the only ask for the wip game but im considering giving little snippets for each and tagging the people who said they voted for that (and if i do ill absolutely tag you!! <3)
for stoncys little chat ive got my staright-from-brain, 0 editing word mush down in a play by play of events. ive taken out bits that are too revealing or just basic reminders of character motivations to present to you the most basic version in my process (wahoo!)
Nancy takes a deep breath and is like "we need to talk about.. A lot." And Steve nods. Both have a sec to try and think of how they want to bring their different confrontations up. Steve opens his mouth to talk but fails but Nancy notices and switches to encouraging him to say what he wants.
he doesn't really know where to start and doesn't want to start with an accusation or big vulnerability so hes like ".. I want to talk about what happened in the bathroom at tina’s party, our fight." And shes like. "Okay lets start there then (thinking it'll reveal if it was a breakup or not). I know i said things while i was drunk and i promise i actually don't remember." And hes like "no no i didn't think you were lying about that." And shes like "okay..." and doing a face thing to prompt what he did think. And he struggles a bit before saying "well you uh you were trying to get punch off your shirt and was getting frustrated because it wasn't working. And then you started say bullshit a lot, just like ‘its bullshit’ over and over. And then uh.. You said it was me, that was bullshit. And that whole.. Thing, where i don't care that we.. with barb. and we’re just pretending like we’re in love, which (shakes his head no). And then i asked if you loved me and.. (vauge-ass hand gesture) ‘its bullshit’ so.. So i left. and im pretty sure Jonathan took you home."

I like how you headcanon Day as more proactive (like a nice parallel to Vice Versa and PuenTalay where Puen was more proactive). Let baby gay be horny for his poor hot mechanic boyfriend. Btw we know very small amount of information but how do you WANT it to be: do you want Day to be gay? Or bi? And what about Mork? Do you want them/one of them to have dating experience? What should be their view of love be?
im SO HAPPY you like the idea of day being the more proactive one because i think that's really one of the thing i want the most out of this show!!!! i also think it fits what little we saw of them in the mock trailer: mork is flirty, but he's also older and works as day's caretaker, so he's painfully aware of - as he calls them - "the boundaries of his responsibility", which is probably what is going to stop him from pursuing an actual relationship with day. day, on the other hand, doesn't have these qualms, and at the end of the trailer he is the one to go in for a kiss, so i LOVE the idea of day going after what he wants once he realizes his feelings for mork
as for your questions, right now im mostly headcanoning mork as bi and day as gay, similarly to puentalay, though i wouldn’t really be able to explain why ;;;;; i also think mork has definitely dated before, while im not so sure about day: he’s an athlete, so he must have been really popular in school, but it also means that all his energies were probably devoted to training and that he didn’t have time to hang out with friends, much less to actually date
and maybe it’s because of this difference in their experiences, but i would love to see mork being kinda disillusioned when it comes to love and day being the more.. idealistically romantic one. mork is in debt and can’t see a future for himself, and maybe in the past he had some relationships that didn’t end well, so i could easily imagine him thinking that love isn’t really for him because he doesn’t believe he gets to have a happy ending, while day seems to like stories, and love in stories is always passionate and sensational and bigger than yourself, so that’s what he expects for himself too. it would be nice if by being together they could learn that happiness and love are in the small gestures they choose to give and receive from each other every day
