Zilabee i love your blog very much, every time you post I get incredibly excited you're so knowledgable about those four randy scouse gits, but I'm trying to get into the book side of the Beatles and I know there are many posts out there to help with that, but I want to know personally, what do you think are the best Beatles books? Not by popularity or the best author, what are your favourite Beatles books you would recommend to people to read? I know you're a Paul girl (which aren't we all at heart? cause even if he isn't your fave he's your faves fave, so by association we're all Paul girls), but please don't worry about favouritism again this is an ask of your fave Beatles books

it's hard to recommend people things, I'm not deeply inside the capability of it, and most beatles books, like the beatles themselves, are basically awful

the books on my beatles shelf that I feel most fondly towards aren't about beatles, they're about Tara Browne and Robert Fraser

i want desperately to recommend the books by Maureen Cleave and Iris Caldwell but they never wrote them so I can't, so don't read those

i really like dakota days by john green. that's probably embarrassing to be the first book I can think of that I like but there we go. I think I went in with very low expectations, so that probably helped and I've ruined that for you by saying it's good. it's about john with yoko, not all the beatles, and as with all john books, the author is very 'actually I knew John well, I really got him...' which is what all men do, but then instead of 'we shared this amazing connection! he TRULY LOVED ME!!' he's more 'he was just really fucked up and desperate to be loved' which is not what most men do, so I liked that. Also he storifies it all, which keeps you a bit detached from how heartbreakingly sad it all is if it's remotely true.

i loved the longest cocktail party by richard delillo. I thought it captured apple beautifully, and it's very much of it's time, which is also the beatles's time, so it's very much of the beatles even if they're not often there. it was written in 1970 and it does cover the total death of all happiness, but obviously only from a very close perspective, and he'd left by then and everyone disappeared, so instead of pretending to know things he doesn't, he just drifts into newspaper headlines and reports, and it works really well for a person like me who finds the endings very difficult

i think one of the very first beatles books I read was here, there, and everywhere, by geoff emerick and I have a lot of remembering it being good while now not really remembering it, but i do like books by people who were actually trying to work while the beatles were around, rather than trying to wank all over them, because there is a suitable level of frustration with them, which makes it all feel a bit more bearable. you do have to put up with how much he hates george, but we have to put up with a lot of things

as time goes by, by derek taylor, is very good if you don't mind that derek taylor is living his life in inverted commas and I'm only recommending you books about the terrible aching sadness of the end, sorry. I love the way it's written though, I love the way it's felt, I love how much he hates Paul in 1968... but then as he says, many of the people he likes most are absolutely terrible, and he means brian, but it's true of all of them and I just really like that he feels it

everyone recommends it I know it's not new, but michael braun wrote the beatles's progress and that is very good and earlier and brighter than a lot of what I've mentioned. and it's short! which I think is important in beatles books too, because it means people aren't trying to fill pages. apart from the cocktail party all of these are quite short.

actually that's probably my main advice when you're trying to decide to read beatles books:

pick short ones to start with

pick ones written by people who worked with/for them

pick your favourite era and start there

and you don't have to care whether it's 'trusted' or 'reliable' or whatever, care about whether you enjoy it, and then pick over the bones of the biases later

i have read some of the big full biographies, but they're kind of boring, trying to tell you everything when they don't actually know anything and they weren't there. tumblr's better for that. also they sort of pretend not to have an opinion, which is both a lie and a boredom, because opinions are the best thing. books by people who knew them DEFINITELY have opinions and you get to judge them.

I liked pete best's book more than I thought I would, I just read it the other week. I can't remember a lot about alistair taylor's book now, but I remember enjoying it, specially to get more sense of brian, and brian's autobiography is written by derek taylor so it snips along. either of george martin's books is nice and quick. chris salewicz wrote the best biography of paul mccartney and it fits in your pocket. cynthia and may are both good.

so this is like two asks ig? but what is ur most unique sean headcanon, and what is ur sean headcanon that you will defend with your life (i really love ur headcanons lol)

OOOHHHHH ANON!!!!!! we're in it now lmfaoo THANK YOU first of all I'm honestly so glad people enjoy my headcanons/rants about these characters!! RDR2 is my first time really foray-ing into fandom space like this (previously having kept my writing & thoughts to closed circles of friends lol), and the reception here has overall been a lot more than I ever expected!! Especially since I've really picked my faves <;- said while sideeyeing the 28 works in the macsummers tag on AO3.

ANYWAY these are some insanely good questions, anon, and I've been thinking about them ALL DAY, so I'll do my very best to answer you here in a way which does these questions justice.

It's hard for me to know which one of my Sean HCs is the most unique, as I have a LOT of HCs, and I've been posting a LOT of them over the course of the past few months. I've been told (as a compliment!!) that my overall take on him & the connections I make regarding him is unique, which I obviously am very flattered by! But I also don't think it's too hard to be unique when you're thinking & talking about a character who generally isn't given the same amount of genuine consideration and meta as other characters from the same franchise. Like, I could be talking at length about Arthur, or Charles, or John (and I HAVE!!! Not on tumblr, but still, I love those characters too!!) but my takes would probably not generate the same kind of attention by virtue of those characters being talked about a lot by a lot of other people too!! My posts about Sean stick out because there's not a whole lot of other people writing posts about Sean in the meta/HC style I do!

(Sidenote, while I don't fault the RDR2 fandom for not giving Sean his dues - he is a side character who dies very early on, and who is easy to stereotype, after all - I AM very glad and grateful that the stuff I've said & shared seems to have impacted some people's understandings of him, at least in the circles I run in. As of late I've been seeing a lot more thoughtful takes on him, reflecting how he has the capability of being just as nuanced as several of the other characters in the game. Maybe that's because I'm right in the middle of it though; most RDR2 circles I'm in KNOW me as the Sean stan, and engage with my takes on him, after all!!)

So like, is my most unique Sean headcanon among the ones that reflect canon & actually took off, impacting some people's view of him - like how he DOES mirror a younger Arthur, and how he fulfills a role in the gang, and how his death is necessary to set the tone for the rest of the game? Or is my most unique headcanon him being a gnc bi poly king in the messiest possible queerplatonic triad with Karen and Lenny? Is it that I think he prefers licorice to chocolate? That I think his favorite color is burgundy(not that he'd call it that)? I don't know! I both have so many HCs that picking one is extremely hard for my Libra-ass-self, and I don't have many others writing similar stuff to compare myself with, at all! I'd love to hear from others, though, if anyone else who's been reading my Sean posts have any takes regarding what of my stuff has stuck with them!!!

OKAY sorry for the rant mkjhbjj It's probably not what you were looking for asking me that but it's something that's on my mind, given that I think a fair amount of the uptick in my following over the past few months, if not from AO3, is very much from my RDR2 meta posts - which are in majority about Sean.

ANYYYWAYYY as for a Sean HC I will defend with my life - DEFINITELY the Sean learning disabilities ones - he is INCREDIBLY ADHD & dyslexia coded to me, it MASSIVELY influences how I write him in my fics, and I don't think anyone will ever argue me away from that one. Also, Sean siding with Arthur & John in the end, IS a hill I will die on - to the point that I've written several posts about/referring to it mjnhbnjbh Honestly though, I am a petty bitch who will die on most hills available to me, and I'm not afraid of confrontation, so I am a little bit of a menace when it comes to my Sean HCs and defending them lolol I'm overall very pleased they've gone over well with the rest of the Sean stan community here on tumblr though!! Yall are the best fr <3<3<3

On spirits of Shooting stars ending, I decided to do this. Sorry is short, I tried my best.

The video starts with a girl seating on something that could be very well a studio, with many posters on the wall from many groups and idols. She seems old enough to know to not get into fanwars, but there's a glint in her eyes that shows that she knows exactly what she's doing, and seems to be enjoying it.

“Shooting Stars is about to end, and as we know, mnet likes rigging their shows, so it's time to talk honestly about the show.” The girl stars talking to the camera, with a microphone partly hiding her face. “First things first, I'm gonna talk about my picks first, and why did I pick them, then of course I'll bash on the rest of the idols, but first let me tell you my picks, alright?”

The image quickly turns into black, with the logo of shooting stars in the middle and the words “my top seven, in no particular order” in green under the logo. A short video of Chloe on her performance of “teddy bear” appears for a few seconds before it fades to show once again the face of the girl.

Chloe is gonna be my first pick, shocker, I know, y'all were expecting my faves to be first, but she just needs to be there. Yes, I know she might have been too harsh with your faves, but if they can't handle it then why are they idols? That's part of the business, and she understood that well.

A second video was shown after the girl stopped talking, showing Elliot on the “She Devil” performance, but again, it faded back to the girl's face after a few seconds passed.

Elliot. I think him in the red suit should be reason enough, but if we need more reasons, we just need to see him on each episode, he gave his all for this, as he should. And, if you need more reasons, please go watch Deepdive's comebacks.

The third video shows Finn, also on his last performance for Shooting Stars, and just as the two other videos, it fades after a few seconds of being shown.

Finn. Finn knows about shows like this, this isn't his first rodeo, and as always, he's the best on it. He knows what to do to get on the top, and he's giving it all to be there. There was a reason he was first and became DeepDive's center, and there's a reason why he should be the first and center in this SuperM wannabe group.

Another video was shown, this time, it was Zasha, and just as the others, it was gone in a few seconds. But this time, after the video faded, the logos of DeepDive, Venus, and Pushing Daisies were shown in a small part of the video, on the lower left corner.

Zasha. Jinwha is the worst men to ever exist, but that asshole knew how to spot a talent, and Zasha is not the exception. Zasha was born to be on a stage, and I think she proved she deserves a spot on the group mnet is creating. Let's just hope they're not rigged, because they deserve to be in the group.

Finally getting out of her ults, a face never shown before in the channel appeared, with Venus performing Too Sassy!

Venus. This one was a surprise, if I have to be honest, I didn't expect her to be so good, I liked her vibe, and she proved to be better than I expected her to be. Not gonna lie, I'm gonna keep an eye on her after the show ends on her group... Chicane? I think? I'm not sure, but I'll keep tabs on her and the group.

Once again a video is shown, this time showing another new face, Jinri making the first appearance on the channel, and by the way the girl was about to speak, it might not be the last time she appears.

Jinri. Yes. There's no much more to say about her other than she knew what she had to do and she. did. it. She was iconic, she was mother, it was what we needed in between all that niceness... good girl thing going on.

Then, a familiar face is shown again, but instead of an ex Angelico idol, or an idol that still had to get out of the claws of Jinhwa, Poppy is on the video, performing in the last episode of Shooting Stars.

Poppy. We all know Gfriend, and it was sad to see them go, but Poppy still has a lot of potential that shouldn't go to waste. She would be a great leader, and if some... Less than good options... get in the group, they could learn what's a real idol thanks to her.

The logo of Shooting Stars is shown again as the first time, but this time, it can be read “Idols that did not make it” in red letters, and a voice in off.

Now, what everyone was waiting for, the ones I don't want on the group.

The video shows Oliver, but this video is from the practice for the first group challenge, where he was doing all kinds of cheerleader stunts in a room.

I would've voted for Oliver in the beginning, but now... he's not doing it for me. Chloe should've let him have his five minutes of fame with the cartwheels.

A new video was shown, this time it was Qiao, also practicing for the first group challenge, but she was shown with a microphone in hand.

If there's something SM entertainment knows how to do, that's to create big expectations. And once again, they delivered empty promises. Qiao was simply not... on the next level, and she showed us why she's only a pretty face as a backup dancer. Plus, her sunshine and rainbows attitude was a big no for me.

Lastly, Mingeun was shown on his last performance with the song “Strange world”

Mingeun was good, as expected of him, and I swear I would've love to say he's one of my picks, but he's sadly not, as there's only seven spots, and some were simply better. I hope he keeps being this good on his group, though!

There's no more videos shown, and the girl moves slightly from the microphone, to show her face a little better.

That's sadly all for now, of course there are others that I would like to see on the group, but sadly there are only seven spots, and there were other really good surprises, and horrible disappointments, so if y'all want a second part talking about them, leave comments and likes so I know you liked this. I have much more tea on this show, so I'll be glad to talk about it. But for now, this has been it, so I hope you enjoy it!

favorite thing about them -> You drive a hard bargain, picking one of my faves and expecting just one thing. I love his awkwardness because I find it relatable, LOL. But like, okay, I think my favourite thing about him is this quiet fortitude he carries himself with? Like, he's shy and doesn't always offer up his opinion, but he will almost always quietly defend his loved ones and what he thinks is right. And I love that, that he's not generally bold but is willing to defend his values.

least favorite thing about them -> Does not compute. Sorry.

brOTP -> I loved his supportive friendship with Christopher. Sadness. But honestly, all of the Merry Thieves fall into this category. I hope James and Matthew understand that while there were 4 inseperable friends, they were always kinda paired off, and they work hard to include Thomas more.

OTP -> THOMASTAIR MY BELOVEDS.

nOTP -> Anyone who isn't Alastair. I am not open to any other ships for either of them ever, they're soulmates and should never be parted.

random headcanon -> I have so many but I guess the one I'll go with is that he visits Christopher's memorial stone at the Silent City sometimes (with Jem's help) and talks to him, tells him what's going on in his life, and leaves him lemon tarts.

unpopular opinion -> I'm a massive Alastair stan so I hope this doesn't get me canceled, but he was 100% valid for being so angry at the end of ChoG/ChoI. All of the information was completely new to him - it wasn't some old grudge. And Alastair is someone he didn't just completely trust to be good - he's someone that he stood up for for years to his friends who had pretty good reasons not to like him. I'd have been furious too.

Okay sorry for the long asks I'm gonna send! I wanna give you my thoughts on the routes after playing and getting the good endings of all four of them (I haven't touched the bad ends yet because I'm not ready to destroy my soul 😔) and I figured it'd be easier to have one ask per route for simplicity. Also I will be as spoiler free as possible with my thoughts for the sake of anyone who hasn't played yet. These may not be the best written reviews though, my thoughts kinda go all over lol. So first off, Kay my beloved darling!

He was the one who caught my attention first and I gotta say while I adore everyone so far he's still my favorite! Man that Act 1 plot twist about who Kay really is? I'm still mind blown over it like I never ever EVER expected that to be the case! So when that was thrown at me I was basically like "?????? wtf??? WTF????" Honestly Kay's route was sooo heartbreaking in many respects, from Kay's struggles to Xani dealing with the consequences. And my gosh as someone who is the biggest baby alive when it comes to horror and anything related to it, the unsettling moments were *chef's kiss* I saw another anon bring this up and I wanna agree that Kay's VA? Outstanding, simply incredible. Every emotion, every line that came from Kay was believable and hit me in all the right ways. My fave moments being a certain breakdown in a shack and basically everything from the Branch 2 ending. And I really enjoyed how you wrote the mental health issues in this route, especially the issue regarding dependency. Kay himself was so enjoyable as a character as well, both pre and post that part of Act 1. I loved his teasing moments and kindness, I loved his more solemn moments, I loved the moments when he was struggling because of you know what. This route also had me asking a lot of questions which works that it's paired with Clive's route that contains some answers. For Kay my favorite end was the Branch 2 ending, I think it was the best way to wrap up everything that happened.

Next up, Clive you little weirdo (affectionate)!

Starting Clive's route was already breaking me because, as I said, Kay's my fave so there I was making sure not to bond with him too much so that I could get Clive's route. That coupled with The Plot Twist™ of Act 1 and basically I was already grieving with the start of this route. I say all this but truly I was already fond of Clive. He's just so incredibly, adorably, painfully earnest in all he does. It's hard not to love him even when he acting so obviously suspicious. And that sincerity in his interactions with Xani over the course of the route does help to lessen the sting of certain reveals. This route did answer some questions I had about Kay's route but it also raised so many more??? Like seriously as this route went on I was half ready to do a conspiracy board to try and piece things together. I enjoyed how this route dealt with identity and how you choose to see both yourself and others. And it was sooooo much fun interacting with Clive over the course of this route and seeing his funny and adorable reactions to Xani mixed in with how achingly sweet he was at times. And it all made the drama of the latter part of the route all the more better! Once again, shout out for the VA work because Clive's VA did a great job selling how awkward and sweet this guy truly is. Great first impression with the hiding behind the tree scene and the adorableness of the scene at the end of Branch 1. So while for Kay I preferred his Branch 2 ending (I did say that it was the Branch 2 ending I loved more for him right? The one with the party? bleh my memory is bad sometimes but yeah that's my fave of the two for Kay) in Clive's case my preferred ending for him in the Branch 1 ending. Mainly for the heart melting sweetness and partially because I couldn't bear having poor Xani deal with a certain consequence of Branch 2's ending.

Now we got my precious baby Shannon!

This book wasn't big in terms of spooks but it dealt with other kinds of fears that still chilled me to the bone. I adored how this route handled paranoia and how much do you truly understand/try to understand the people in your life. I was already attached to Shannon in the common route so finally getting to play her route was great (plus I'm a sucker for childhood friend romances)! Shannon's bubbly energy and A+ friendship was so adorable (everyone deserves to have an incredible friend like Shannon) and precious but my truly favorite scenes were the ones where she tried to open up more about what she was going through. I felt her frustration and loneliness whenever Xani wouldn't let her in (completely understandable why Xani would but I also totally felt why it hurt Shannon so much). Shannon's VA completely sold me on her adorable bubbly self and also completely sold me during the scenes where she let out emotions other than "I'm happy bubbly Shannon". A certain yelling scene after a certain other character's role in everything was revealed comes to mind most. Can I just say that gigantic WTF moment (the "memory" one for the sake of being as spoiler free as possible) nearly fried my brain? Like I was right there with Xani wondering what the hell was going on here and how that happened. Didn't get a conspiracy board but I did actually start taking a shit ton of notes in a spare notebook I have trying to piece together everything going on and all the questions I have! Also screw Dustin, all my homies hate Dustin >:( But it was fun to meet Charlie and Choi (will we see more of them later on? they were so fun it'd be a shame if we didn't). For Shannon it was actually a really close call between Branch 1 and Branch 2 for my favorite ending because each branch had something I loved so much in terms of romance, friendship and pure drama. But the Branch 2 ending just managed to win between the two because I liked that drama more and also that dance scene was too precious for words! Also the after credits scene of Branch 2 killed me with cuteness!

And last but note least, my actual mom Lana!

When I looked at the walkthrough for Lana's route and saw there seemed to be fewer choices than for the other routes I was worried that would mean her route would just be shorter. But nope, you put my fears to rest when I saw what you did with Act 3! I'm really glad you made that choice for Act 3, because it answered so many questions about the precious acts in her route but also gave a great insight into Lana's mindset! May be sounding like a broken record here but Lana's VA also did a wonderful job here, giving Lana such a caring and soothing voice. Like that finale scene between her and Xani was beautiful and made me melt into a puddle from how much love I could feel in Lana's words! I enjoyed this route's take on trust and the past, how much of it do we hold onto and how much do we need to let go of in order to move forward and heal. This route also revealed a couple somethings that I had been guessing early on and was so excited to have confirmed (namely the identity of a certain someone Lana knows and what said someone's name is). The dream sequences in this route were sooo cool and trippy and makes me want more and more because I need answers! I need all the answers!!! I adored seeing Xani and Lana interact with each other, seeing them reignite that closeness from their past while Xani also has to battle between sincere love for Lana and the mess of emotions coming from all the shit that happens over the route. Lana only has the one good end though I loved how you had variations in there via having the other three be potential love interests and also a certain other variation. It really was fun to try them all out (especially since I super curious how you were gonna pull of one particular variation considering said character's unique position at this point in the game)! Also can I say Lana was incredible in both how hard she tries and truly is a wonderful guardian for Xani and also in how she deals with the grief and despair of past tragedies and also the nonsense of general adult life. Personally I'm closer to Lana's age than the rest of the cast's ages so I ended up really connecting with many of her struggles since they mirror so many of my own.

Last one, I promise!!!

Anyways yeah those are my scrambled thoughts after playing the routes. I'm over here basically vibrating intensely because I cannot wait for Book 3 and the final book to be released. I'm getting closer and closer to upgrading my notebook to a full blown conspiracy board 😂 But seriously, I have so many questions and all the hints and teases you put throughout these routes has my brain going into overdrive trying to figure it all out. Because I noticed certain things and was glad the game was like "yeah isn't this off?" but there was other stuff pointed out to me that I didn't even realize (the dates…THE DATES). Also Xani is such a wonderful MC, my love and light. Both female Xani and male Xani have such adorable designs and their VAs did great when it came to bringing them to life in both sweet moments and in the harsher moments (also loved seeing the different reactions the other characters would have based on Xani's gender it was so cool you added those variations in dialogue). Anyways you have done such a good job on the writing on this game and please pass along my admiration and love to the artists who made the incredible images, the composers and singers and all the music folks who made some absolutely amazing tracks that were perfect for the scenes, and also to all the fantastic VAs who brought these characters to life! Love the game and am eagerly awaiting the next part!!!

miss tenelka, taemin is my ult as well so i know what you're talking about, i've been a shawol for ages! though my feelings towards hwa are a bit different since taemin is like my bestie, my soulmate (i know, dramatic, i just relate to him and key a lot), and hwa is... my ideal everything... but i theory obviously

their first concerts were something else, i would love to see them again though, but so far it hasn't happened and probably won't for a while 🙄 (glad you're free from your ex)

ahhhh i see, honestly the gossip girl aspects didn't matter to me much, i liked htat the focus was more on the characters, but i understand where you're coming from. i definitely felt the presence of the city in arrow in the dark.

i used to have a hwa side blog (it's sadly gone cause tumblr is a bitch) and i still have hwa centred twt account. i mainly post(ed) about him, made gifs, edits, fan art and some people treat me like a solo stan it's baffling. i won't lie and say he isn't my fave, because he is and i love him the most, doesn't mean i dislike other members, smh.

in the end you have to post and create whatever you want, i'm sure people who bias other members and perhaps don't really read seonghwa fics are a bit jealous because you're such a great writer. so i can't blame them for wanting to read a story about their fave from you! but yeah they just need to deal with it. there's no use writing something that you dislike or feel like isn't authentic

yeah, it was mostly instagram comments whenever he would post a selfie. the comments were usually pretty negative and i remember being disgruntled over it and happy he didn't cave to pressure and change his hair. that's one of the reasons i love hj - he always wears what he wants and does what he wants to his hair and that's that. he's had hairstyles i've not been a fan of but i always love that he does what he wants stylistically boldly. and now newer atiny love the mullet and i constantly see them wishing he would bring it back so i feel vindicated in a way lol.

twitter is overall a pretty negative space. i use it mostly for shitposting because it's just a mess. sorry you had to deal with ppl thinking you were a solo stan. i don't understand the logic in that because there is such a diff between being a solo stan and having a bias, you know? if you ever start posting on there again, let me know cuz i am always kinda looking for good hwa accounts on there.

yeah sometimes i feel a little bit of the odd one out in the fanfic community because i know you are sorta expected to take requests, write for every member of a group, etc and i don't. i'm also shy and keep to myself and i struggle with any sort of attention me (i try not to be too aware of how many notes or followers i have because it gives me anxiety lol). most of the friendships i've formed thru the blog is because people have messaged me first altho i try to overcome my shyness and message people if they've written a fic that i've read and enjoyed a lot. i understand if someone likes my writing style but doesn't wanna read a hwa fic they could be a little frustrated i haven't written for other members but as you said, my writing is an extension of me and it's important that i write what i want and what feels true to me. the work is better for it.

i fell out of my webtoon reading habits at around last november-december (can you guess what took all the brain space from it?) and i'm mostly comfortable with that, i don't even have the wt app anymore... but i do sometimes suddenly remember random canvas series like "i wonder what happened next" and then i have to remember that actually it's not that the series is necessarily on a hiatus, it's just me who isn't there reading it. i do think i want to go back to catch up with my indie faves sometime, but you have to understand, i was reading so many series.

(i used to comment a lot, maybe i wasn't as omnipresent as literally a tree (iykyk) but also one of the reasons i'd regularly change my nickname (like one would their icon on here i guess) is bc sometimes i was one of the handful, if not almost the only one regular commenters on a series and the possibilty that the author would expect me to comment on every update scared me. there was one of the more popular canvas series that i would always be very excited about in the comments and reread old chapters to find clues and theorize and everything and one time the author did say they would kind of look forward to my comments when updating and that made me quite happy though. also one time with another author we talked about the latest sk8 episode and that was nice and also awkward. what im trying to say is that i love being able to comment under each episode and read other ppl's comments and discuss and geek out etc. and i do also like that you're able to tell the author if what they have created made you happy or feel seen or experience big feelings but at the same time sometimes you need a bit more distance from creators and you can't really have that there. now i lost where i was going with this.

there's some small canvas series that i loved that got featured and they might have even released since then, i'm too nervous to check... probably not though, it hasn't been all that long, in terms of time it usually takes to reboot a series.

anyways. lots of weird nostalgia in my brain tonight.

and??? i just checked my account and a bunch of the originals i was reading have ended in the past 7 months??? like 5 of them, and only 2 of these i knew were in their final seasons. weird. one ended on my birthday even.

oh no now i looked at my subscriptions and there's a bunch of series that i kind of forgot about that i really want to know what happens in!! ugh bh changed its cover and the other half really was that other character i was right!! and tld is out on originals!! my children!! i have abandoned my children!! also i looked at the latest ep to see where they are in the plot and. i straight up forgot that kori is called kori. don't get me wrong i love him but i forgot he was also called that.

i really don't know what the point of this post is anymore sorry

#here's a funny thing. i think it's funny. my nickname is currently 'inkpa agenda' bc i changed it in like december and i was already-#falling behind on some series at that point and then i quit and now it's still that. you have to understand. i set that name before they-#-became canon. and now it's so hard to believe it was ever a possibilty that it wouldn't happen but back then i didn't kno #i kind of set that as my nickname as a way to wish it into existence i guess. and bc the series has a silly title so i didn't want to use-#that #and now that name has been there for months. even in some top comments. and i'll probably never know if anyone came to talk to me about it-#bc wt sucks in that way it's nearly impossible to see the replies except for push notifications on the app. which i don't have #even if i did i won't retroactively get the notifs. ugh

tbh... people would rather discuss his name than have to have more painful discussions about the role they and their faves have played in the racism he faced, lbr. a LOT of 1d fans have done racist things over the years. some of them blatantly openly racist (the ones holding terrorist signs, throwing things at him, etc) but a lot more have been passively racist (pushing ugly narratives, having double standards, believing unsourced tabloid nonsense about him that they'd instantly question about the others, the whole "he's so mysterious~ and brooding~" shit, etc).

we've ALL done it at some point, as much as it hurts to admit. i'm a woc and zayn has always been my #1, but even i'm guilty of holding him to different standards than the whites. it's a societal thing. we've all been raised in a racist world and we've all internalised certain messages, even those of us who are literally asian sjfhsjf.

it's like women claiming they shave their legs because they "want to". we all know that's nonsense and we do it because if we go outside hairy we'll be ridiculed and considered lazy and disgusting, but none of us like to admit we've crumbled to societal misogyny. "i just like having smooth legs!" we say, even thought we are all aware that when we're home alone and won't be seen, we never shave or do our makeup or anything. racism works the same - it infiltrates every aspect of life and all our interactions and none of us have escaped its web of deceit.

i mean, hell, how many of us have gone "omg i'd love a 1d reunion" or "i wish zouis would talk again" or whatever? i would NEVER talk to any of my white ex-colleagues who had stayed silent while i was being racially abused en masse, and yet, despite that fact, i still expect zayn to put himself through it just because i like louis. even if the individual 1d boys weren't the issue (zayn has the bus1 tattoo for a reason - clearly louis was his friend and not just a colleague), having to put himself back into 1d territory would undoubtedly stir up a lot of traumatic memories of things and people who WERE racist.

and we all know that! we're not stupid! we are 100% aware of the trauma he faced in that band, both from the fandom and the management and the media. and yet we still expect him to package it all up into a neat little box, tie a bow around it, and hand it to us like a gift. even those of us who are poc, who have similar trauma, who KNOW who awful that would be to go through. it's so insidious! we're all guilty!

and i think a lot of fans are stuck in a very childish mindset where you are either a good person or you are a big scary racist. (to be cringey and quote sirius black: "the world isn't divided into good people and death eaters, harry"). but that isn't how it works. no one is perfect and pure. no one has escaped the societal pressure of racism. it isn't a moral failing to put your hands up and go "damn, i'm part of the problem, i'll try and do better in future". like, that's literally all it would take! no one is expecting white fans to start whipping themselves in repentance!!! but a lot of these fans are struggling with that, clearly lol. they'd rather hyperfocus on one little line of cathartic and pretend it's a big deal, cus it's easier to talk about "zayn vs zain" or whatever than it is for them to analyse their own behaviour. but, like, their refusal to discuss the part they've played in the fandom's racism is literally just reinforcing the issue!! this is what zayn meant when he was said nobody is listening!

Oh my gosh, this was such a great read. Thank you for sending this to me! And quoting Sirius Black! And your joke at the end; this is iconic. You also touch on some very real and important points.

I have always felt so deeply for and sympathized with these issues, but I could never truly understand because while I am white and hispanic, I am white-passing and have white privilege. I hate evil and discrimination and racism, but I'm also sure I have at times contributed to it, even unintentionally. As you said, it is deeply engrained into our society, our entertainment, our jobs, our conversations, our jokes, our lives, our thoughts, our homes. It is in fandom too and I've always noticed a different tone (mainly when I'm on twitter) when people speak about Zayn. They cut him no slack. They question his motives. He is always judged so harshly. His music and lyrics are often ignored. And the Zouis breakup is usually always placed on his shoulders, even though we don't know the actual truth of what happened between the two. I've been thinking about this the last couple of days and even more so after listening to Cathartic. Zayn Malik is a grown ass man. A POC who was mistreated and discriminated against while in One Direction and still. He knows his trauma and is allowed to do what is best for him (Calamity). I wish Louis and Zayn would publicly be friends again, that is no secret, but it's not necessarily fair of me to put that on their shoulders because it has more to do with me than what is best for them. I still love and always will love Zouis, but it's in the past and that's how I'll celebrate it from now on because I do think they cared for each other very much.

The chemistry had to come back in the final episodes of season 3 so that her d**th would hurt, at least that's my thinking. It's fucked up considering all the reasons for her being written off in general and how and why they decided to do it, but putting that aside if you can (which trust me I know is hard) how nonsensical and cruel and unnecessary a decision it was, it IS impactful. Both Ben and Mischa sold it imo. It could have come across so hollow and to me it doesn't. It fucking hurts. It hurts because it feels real (as real as it can on a tv show.) The reason it makes me so angry, on Marissa and Mischa's behalf, is because they (the performers) made me feel it. Honestly I wish they'd chosen to k*ll her in a different way because the whole car crash thing and the way it happens is ridiculous lmao. This isn't a defense of the writers AT ALL ftr, just want that to be really clear. Fuck them, FUCK Josh. But rather a compliment to Ben and Mischa's acting skills. They really made you feel like they were going to get back together, after a season of estrangement essentially. Her storylines that season are so god awful Jesus. And then in fucking season 4 her d**th is literally driving the story for basically half a the season at least if I remember correctly since it's so goddamn short. She's still the dramatic center of the show even though she's not on it anymore lol. It's embarrassing. Anyway I hate fridging, I'm sick of the mistreatment of female characters in media. *Especially* the ones that are most marginalized, don't even get me started on the way disabled/nuerodivergent women, queer women, women of color, fat women etc are mistreated, it says something that even the women with the most privilege (thin, white, conventionally attractive) get treated the way they do. And that's not a dig at Mischa or Marissa, because I love her. I love flawed women, problematic women etccc. I only wish we could have more of them, and that they weren't treated like they're dispensable. There's barely enough women on screen to begin with!! And they insist on k*lling us so often!!! For fucks sake. Sorry for going on a whole ass rant lmao wow this really got away from me. It's just so sardonic how media is supposed to offer us escapism, distraction, comfort, to allow us to be seen. And yet for half the population (a generalization) we really don't get that luxury. Obviously we keep watching, we can't help it, we keep hoping for it to get better (and in some ways it has) and when we're young we don't know what we're getting ourselves in for, we don't know what to expect, that's how we wind up forming those sentiment attachments to "problematic media" and everything is problematic in one way or another. Again, not a dig. So many creators don't deserve the female characters that they create. The way men really only view us as love interests, as foils, solely existing to serve or motivate other men, god it really is sickening isn't it? I'll be taking those female characters the fuck away from you thank you very much! You don't deserve them.

It's totally okay I legitimately understand!! You're def right that the chemistry was turned on to make the finale really stick, but the writing was too. It's pretty cruel in my opinion to take fans on a rollercoaster of hope like that. Imagine being an OG fan thinking the season was finally picking the fuck up after the snooze fest it was only to have your fave killed off and your fave couple done forever. That's traumatic, and a lot of their audience were just teens.

Ben and Mischa really did make me feel it, and their chemistry felt right again for the first time in months that you believe they're on the cusp of something again. Even if Marissa is leaving for Greece. I don't watch the d**th scene and I've probably seen it only four to five times but not at all in the last eight or so years. When I first watched this show I would sort of revel in the tragedy and it just wasn't good for me. Take right now with the glorification of the death of Gwen Stacy. Like no thanks. Fridging women for manpain is not my thing. But yes, you're so right that even all the privilege in the world didn't save those ladies because of who wrote and created them. I think things are getting better for women characters because of the shift of who's in charge but I'm still scarred and weary.

hi bestie!! sorry i had this discussion with my friend earlier today and then i went on a rant to u bc i was lowkey trying to figure it out in my own brain lmao. oooh thee song to daydream too was fifteen OR begin again but i feel like it was more pure imagery?? like her songwriting would never be my experiences so that’s why they were so good to daydream to??? idk

ig by white feminism, it’s just very stereotypical things she says and does without actually being v vocal about issues?? take for example that whole girlboss clique of the 2010s or the shake it off music video where it felt heavily like cultural appropriation or her line in all too well (10min version) “and you were tossing me the car keys ‘fuck the patriarchy’ key chain on the ground” where she’s highlighting the how the guy she’s dating calls himself a feminist but is treating her like shit (fuck jake gyllenhall btw), yet she then goes on to sell those same “fuck the patriarchy” key chains for like £30… it just feels out of touch???

maybe i’m just overanalysing and being over critical (blame my stupid humanities brain) but she was called was like the first-ever recipient of Billboard’s Woman of the Year award in 2019, that whole thing she had with nicki minaj (also ew now) where nicki spoke up about how black women in the music industry are undervalued and taylor immediately jumped in and told her to stop pitting women against each other, and probs various other incidents that i’m forgetting

look i love her music, and i think when certain lyrics and songs have a hold on you, i don’t think it really can ever go away - i just find her a weird character. i feel like as a woc fan i have to preface every time i say i’m a fan of her by going “look i know she’s been kinda problematic but…..”

then again isn’t that how every celebrity is nowadays?? am i expecting too much of a 30 year old pop star who at the end of the day, will never be affected by this???

i get the impression that especially female celebs are unintentionally put on pedestals by their fans (i myself am guilty of this). maybe taylor is trying her best to genuinely be [some kind of] feminist, but like the rest of us she regularly makes mistakes? not to b deep but like all human beings have flaws, every day we are growing and changing etc. however, wouldn't it be rather naive of me to make that assumption as she is one of the biggest pop stars in the entire world - surely the things she says publicly (especially about potentially"sensitive" or "political" topics) must be approved by a PR agency?

or maybe it's a combination of these aspects? she cares about feminist issues as she is affected by misogyny (especially as a woman in the music industry) even tho she's rich, but uses 2014 pop feminism to appeal to her fans and sell merch? i guess u could argue i this is right or wrong, but like she has an entire marketing team behind her. how many of these ideas are even her own (i.e. the 2014 etsy keychain)? i def think there's a difference between taylor swift the person and taylor swift the brand.

to be 100% honest if someone was like 'i'm a fan of taylor swift and i know she's problematic but...' i would be like huh?? maybe it's because i live in northern europe or something but i believe women, especially woc, are allowed to have their problematic faves in peace 😤 t swift isn't even that problematic imo so i hope u don't feel "bad" or guilty for liking her!
