Fruits Basket Another Headcanons: Mina Sohma Edition

• Mina Sohma was born via a surrogate to Momiji Sohma (31) and his husband, Megumi Sohma (28)

• Her birthday is April 5th (possibly in 2013-2014 if I did my math right)

• Almost as soon as she was born, Momiji began calling her "Mii" for short, which means "beauty"

• She is one of the youngest Sohma cousins, only being older than her own brother and Hiro & Kisa's youngest daughter

• As a baby, Mina was always looking around, smiling, and giggling

• However, she was not exactly an easy baby. Getting her to sleep at night was extremely difficult, and she'd often get cranky during the day because of it.

• It was a pretty often occurrence that Momiji would come back from the office in the evening to find his husband sitting up in a chair, cradling Mina against his chest

• That seemed to be the only way she would sleep, and it was always in the early afternoons

• Due to their work schedules, Mina was closer to Megumi than Momiji during her early years

• Momiji had to work long hours, and was often gone on business trips. Meanwhile, Megumi was home every day by 4:00, and he was always the one to pick Mina up from daycare

• When Mina was about 3-4, though, Momiji would occasionally bring her to work with him, and Momo would help keep an eye on her. She's always had a wonderful relationship with her aunt because of this.

• She was a very shy toddler, pretty much always clinging onto her parents or her aunts. • She did like most of her older cousins, but Hajime and Mutsuki frightened her when she was very young. Mutsuki was very loud, and Hajime was usually glaring.

• She grew out of this shyness after starting school; now she almost has zero concept of stranger danger

• she visits Hajime and Mutsuki all of the time, too, and Hajime will sometimes take care of her when she is sick

• Age wise, she is closest to Miyoko (Kyo & Tohru's daughter) and Izumi (Hiro & Kisa's oldest daughter), who are both roughly a year older than her

• The three of them have a knack for getting into trouble....and then getting right back out of it because they are so cute

• (Usually, Miyoko & Izumi find the trouble, and Mina just goes along with it)

• Ironically, they're also the three cousins most prone to getting into arguments at family gatherings ("Mina, you go play on one side of the house. Izumi, go to the other. And Miyoko, you go outside.")

• Although they are eight years apart, Mina was always very close to Riku and Sora. They both loved playing with her; Riku has definitely let her paint his nails

• They also both take her to the batting cages; Riku usually just cheers from the sidelines. Sora will bat, but she is comically bad at it, and Mina always laughs about her lack of skill

• She first got into baseball when she was about five. Her fathers had tried getting her into dance first, but she never really enjoyed it. • Still, she's definitely more of a "girly-girl" than a tom-boy

• Aunt Momo is definitely her favorite Sohma adult, but she also really loves Tohru and Rin

• On her other side, she also has Aunt Saki (she definitely thought her aunt and her father were witches, and thought that was the coolest thing ever. She was very upset to find out the she did not possess any powers like theirs) and her cousin Rio

• Rio absolutely loves her; that side of the family was not very big, so she was his first cousin. She loves Rio, too. They make bracelets together.

• Speaking of which, Mina is a jewelry making FIEND. Beads are EVERYWHERE. Both Momiji and Megumi have a necklace that they must wear all of the time because she made it for them.

• Her younger brother, Makoto, was born when she was five years old

• At first, she actually hated being a big sister. She did NOT like that her parents' attention was no longer focused on her. She would refuse to hold or play with her brother most of the time.

• In fact, she would even ask to stay with Aunt Momo just so she wouldn't have to be around him (and so she could be the center of someone's attention)

• It didn't take long, though, for her parents to figure out what was going on, and they had a conversation with her about the change in their family dynamic, but they also made sure to give her equal attention

• Now, she likes having a younger brother, and she's always trying to teach him new things or make funny faces

• Watermelon is her favorite food in the world, but ironically she doesn't really like candy or cakes

• She collects plushies, and Momiji always brings her one back from business trips • What she does like is hot chocolate. When Momiji comes back from a business trip, the two of them always drink hot chocolate together.

• When Mina gets older, she does join the school softball team.

• She does not follow her cousins to Kaibara, though, and actually goes to a very prestigious all girl's school nearby

• Her grades have always been very good, but she does get in trouble sometimes for being unable to sit still or talking out of turn/too loudly

• She has dreams to travel the world before eventually taking over the business of her grandfather and father

Just a quick ficlet for kyoru week 2023 cause I wanted to write something.

It’s more of a kyoru family story. Idk the idea is cute to me lol

“Hey mom, watcha doin’?” The six-year-old questions.

The woman stops wiping the shelf. “Oh, just tidying up.”

“What’s those?” The child points to a set of DVD jackets. “Movies?”

“Sort of, they’re home movies. You know, like when we record videos on our camera? These are of events we like to keep.”

“Can we watch one?”

“Sure. Why don’t you pick?” The child picks a random disc and hands it to their mom. “Oh, this is of my graduation,” the woman reminisces as she pops it into the Blue-Ray player.

They curl up on the couch as the video rolls with mom narrating for the little girl. The video was taken when she graduated from high school and her parents held a big party at the Sohma compound. Many were there, like uncle Mutsuki and his parents uncle Yuki and aunt Machi, uncle Hatsu and aunt Rin with daughters Sora and Riku, even uncle Shiki came considering he wasn’t fond of parties. Of course, aunty Akito and uncle Shigure had to attend as the heads of the clan, but it was nice to see them since they rarely left the compound anymore. She names off the relatives as they appear on camera, often pausing to answer questions because the little girl has never met many of the older generations that have passed on.

“Who’s that next to you and papa Hajime,” the child points at the elderly couple who are standing next to her grandfather.

“That’s grandpa’s parents. They’re your great-grandparents, grandma Tohru and grandpa Kyo.”

“Oh, they look so old, but so cute still holding hands.”

The woman chuckles, “well, they are in their 80s.” She sighs, “I wish you could’ve met them. You look a little like grandma Tohru when she was a young girl.” A bit of moisture clouds her vision as she reminisces. “Lets’ see, grandma passed away about 8 years after this, and your grandpa followed a year later. My parents believed with his heart gone, grandpa didn’t have the will to keep living.”

“That’s impossible,” the child looks up at her mom with concern, “how can a heart just disappear from,” she points to her chest.

“No, not like that.” The woman laughs. “They’re talking about your great-grandmother. Grandma Tohru was his heart. Great-grandpa loved her more than anything else in this world because she saved him from the Sohma monster.”

The child turns to look at her mom again, this time with an indignant glare. “Mom,” she crosses her arms. “A monster, seriously? Monster’s aren’t real so that makes no sense.”

Before responding, the woman pauses the video and pulls her daughter onto her lap. “Have I ever told you the story of the zodiac?” The child shakes her head no. “Do you want to hear it?”

“Yes!” The little girl bounces in excitement.

The mom moves her back to the couch, gets up and goes to another room. She comes back in a couple minutes holding an old wooden box and sits back down next to her daughter. She then opens the lid to show the child the little animal figurines inside, worn with age, but still discernible for what they represent. But there was one odd piece in the box.

“Mom, why’s there a wooden rice ball with a bunch of animals?”

“I’m glad you asked,” the mom talks as she pulls out the figurines of the rice ball and an orange cat, placing it in the little girls cupped hands. “These represent your grandma Tohru,” she points to the rice ball, “and grandpa Kyo,” she points to the cat. “The rest of the animals make up the zodiac.”

The child gives her a mom a confused look which gains a chuckle from her mother.

“Don’t worry, it’ll be explained in the story.” The woman takes the figurines from her daughter, puts them back in the box, and puts the box aside. “Now where should I begin?” She thinks for a moment. “A very long time ago, there was a god…”

Repentance, not Redemption

Masterpost of characters who qualify for what I said here...and examples of subversions.

Achieved Repentance, not Redemption:

Akito Sohma (Fruits Basket) - While she came to feel remorse for her monstrous actions and stopped doing them, letting the other Sohma family members go free at last, there isn’t much in the way of good she is able to do other than be a good wife to her husband and good mother to her child. A personal-level redemption, perhaps, but not really one on the whole.

Askeladd Olafson (Vinland Saga) - Gets himself killed as the final stage of his plan to help Thorfinn, Canute, and his homeland of Wales, after having previously victimized all of them. He still did nothing to make amends for his life of evildoing and showed no remorse for it. 

Axel (Kingdom Hearts II) - Recognized and felt remorse for his sins, but ultimately elected to blow himself up to clear the way for Sora to fix the consequences rather than hang in there and do it himself. This does not apply to his human counterpart Lea, who underwent a more proper redemption (not one I find particularly well-written, but that’s besides the point).

Billy Hargrove (Stranger Things) - Felt remorse for all the wrong he had done after being forcibly mind controlled by an evil entity, then broke free of said entity and sacrificed his life to buy time until it could be destroyed. Never fully redeemed, but that’s not really his fault.

Count Olaf (A Series of Unfortunate Event) - He died doing one noble thing, but he felt no remorse for the life of evil he had led, and his fatal wound wasn’t even a result of any heroics.

Darth Vader (Star Wars: Return of the Jedi) - Was struggling with remorse for a while, but in spite of this stayed evil right up until his son’s life was in danger, upon which he sacrificed his own life to save him by killing his dark master. This is often called a “redemption”, but it really isn’t; just repentance and validation of Luke’s belief that there was still some good in him.

Doctor Octopus (Spider-Man 2) - He was made to realize what he did wrong, then sacrificed his life to prevent the disaster he had set in motion. As he put it, “I will not die a monster!” This does not apply to the time variant from Spider-Man: No Way Home, who is redeemed.

Dravus (Disney’s The Quest) - After falling under mind control from Travora, the wicked sorceress he had betrayed his kingdom to join, Dravus is able to resist long enough to throw the Divine Crown to the Heirs of Sanctum, being seemingly vaporized by Travora afterward. This repentant act was not enough to redeem him though, and tellingly he is shown at the end to be outright condemned to the Deep, where he is trapped by the demonic Ferals.

Edelgard (Fire Emblem: Three Houses) - While she is redeemed in the Crimson Flower route and goes to her death unrepentant in the Azure Moon route, both Silver Snow and Verdant Wind routes have her express remorse for all of the bloodshed she’s caused upon her defeat, with her insisting on Byleth slaying her in order to finally put an end to all the fighting.

Enji Todoroki / Endeavor (My Hero Academia) - Recognizes where he went wrong and feels remorse about it? Check! Stops his bad behavior? Check! Does good to atone? Oops, it turns out every possible avenue he tries this out on is already closed off, largely thanks to him. He’ll keep trying, but it’ll be as endless an endeavor (heh!) as trying to surpass All Might was.

Gendo Ikari (Neon Genesis Evangelion) - In all incarnations, we get the remorse and acknowledgement of his sins followed by death. Never is there any actual good deeds.

Godot (Ace Attorney) - Despite feeling remorse for what he did, he refused to consciously acknowledge it or do anything to fix it. Instead, he insisted on a final battle with Phoenix Wright, only repenting upon his defeat. He apparently died in prison shortly afterward.

Honerva (Voltron: Legendary Defender) - After being pushed through the space between life and death in a battle over the multiverse's fate, she is made to see the error of her ways by Princess Allura and remorsefully chooses to give up her life to restore all that she destroyed.

Ingrid the Snow Queen (Once Upon a Time) - She had a “My God, what have I done?” epiphany about her monstrous deeds upon reading a letter from her late younger sister, acknowledged her wrongdoing and sacrificed her life to stop the evil she had put in motion.

Jimmy McGill (Better Call Saul) - He finally had his breakthrough epiphany that allowed him to fully process remorse and guilt for his actions and then take responsibility for them. Unfortunately, this led to life in prison, so he is unable to actually do any good from now on.

King Andrias (Amphibia) - Buried the remorse for his villainy deep and justified his atrocities for a long time until reading a letter from his childhood friend Leif brought it all to the surface. At this point, he chose to stop fighting and accept a lethal blow from Anne Boonchuy which damaged the cybernetics that have kept him alive. After playing a part in defeating the Core, he spent what little time he had left to live doing enforced community service for Amphibia.

Kuja (Final Fantasy IX) - As he lay dying following the last battle with Zidane’s party, he finally came to terms with the meaning of life and how wrongful his actions had been. He did the only thing left in his power by transporting Zidane’s party to safety outside the Iifa Tree. 

Lelouch Vi Britannia (Code Geass) - Upon becoming supreme dictator of the world through all manners of deplorable methods, a remorseful Lelouch sets up his own assassination in order to bring about world peace by ridding the planet of its last great tyrant: himself.

Locke (Archie's Sonic the Hedgehog) - Being made to see all that he did wrong in his life, Locke tearfully gives up his own life to free his son from the Master Emerald’s control.

Nephrite (Sailor Moon) - Sacrifices his life to save the girl he came to love and is sorry for the way he'd treated her before. He never actually defected from the Dark Kingdom and even says that his death is the only thing saving Usagi's identity from being revealed to Beryl.

Noah Kaiba (Yu-Gi-Oh!) - Rather spontaneously feels remorse and then sacrifices his life.

Obake (Big Hero 6 the Series) - He did a noble thing at the end by setting Baymax free and ordering him to go save Hiro rather than save him, as he accepts his fate in his crumbling evil underwater lair. However, this was only after his plan to destroy San Fransokyo was thwarted by Hiro and the others, and he personally felt no remorse for his heinous villainy, only despair that it wasn’t successful and that Hiro never agreed to join him as his scientific apprentice. 

Prospera Mercury (Gundam: The Witch From Mercury) - While she ends up feeling remorse for her sins, it only comes after she is forcibly stopped by outside forces, and she doesn’t even do any good to make up for the damage she’s caused due to becoming crippled.

Pryce (Pokemon Adventures) - After his plan failed and all of the repressed remorse for what he’s done emerges from his icy heart, Pryce lets himself fall into the vortex of time in order to ensure Gold makes it back to the other side. While he returns later on, he is made to do good by circumstance rather than by his own free will, so at the moment he is still unredeemed.

Rumpelstiltskin (Once Upon a Time) - Twice, Rumple sacrificed his life to kill a greater evil and save his loved ones. However, the first time he only showed remorse for personal wrongs he’d committed rather than all the general wrongs, plus never indicated he’d stop doing bad things if he had survived past this point and sure enough returned to them upon his resurrection. The second time he had already committed to stop doing bad and consistently do good, but remorse for his general wrong-doing was still absent in favor of the personal.

Satou Matsuzaka (Happy Sugar Life) - She realizes the true meaning of love and gives her own life to protect Shio from dying from the same murder-suicide fall that she put her in to start with. Otherwise, she has remarkably few regrets and even as she dies people are burning alive in the apartment complex that she had set ablaze, taking a lot of other people with her, and she's ultimately tainted Shio as much as she's helped her, if not moreso.

The Scarlet Witch (Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness) - Similar to Honerva, except that it’s another version of herself that makes her see the light, and there is the possibility that she survived and might find redemption in the future. If so, this will become a subversion.

Shadow Weaver (She-Ra and the Princesses of Power) - After realizing that she’s not a hero and never will be, Shadow Weaver sacrifices her life to save her two surrogate daughters and remove her malignant influence from their lives and the world in general. “You’re welcome”.

Tarrlok (Avatar: The Legend of Korra) - Full of remorse for his crimes and unable to believe that he and his brother Noatak can find redemption due to what happened with their father, Tarrlok elects to blow up the boat they’re on, ridding the world of Yakone’s bloodline.

Terra (Teen Titans: The Judas Contract DTV) - Upon being betrayed by Deathstroke in this animated adaptation of a comic storyline, Terra felt remorse for having betrayed the Titans and gave up her life to kill Deathstroke and save Beast Boy, whom she had hurt the most.

Walter White (Breaking Bad) - He died making things right for his family and Jesse, and felt remorse for the consequences of his evildoing, but he still felt proud of said evildoing and would do it all again if he could, even as he dies alone without any loved ones at his side.

Wenwu (Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings) - Despite repressing all of his remorse and conflicted feelings, Wenwu ends up saving his son’s life at the last minute, bequeathing his rings to him just before his soul is sucked out by the very demon he had unleashed.

Yukio Oikawa (Digimon Adventure 02) - On death’s door following being used by Myotismon, Oikawa repents of his crimes and uses the wishing world’s power to convert his soul into a restorative form of energy that revitalizes the Digital World and protects it from future harm.

Subversions:

Cassandra (Tangled the Series) - She appears to follow the repentant, not redeemed outcome to the letter, but then Rapunzel is able to bring her back to life, allowing her to leave Corona and achieve legitimate redemption through good deeds elsewhere in the world.

Doctor Octopus (Marvel’s Spider Man) - Despite his redemption being capped off via his death, Otto Octavius had already gone through the redemption process beforehand: he had recognized his wrongdoing and felt remorse for it, had ceased being a supervillain, and had actively done good deeds solely for altruism’s sake in order to live up to Uncle Ben’s creed.

Esteban Flores (Elena of Avalor) - At first, he seems to achieve the repentance but not redemption by taking a painful killing blow for Elena, apologizing to her for everything before he dies. However, he is very quickly restored to life by Elena, and after making a fuller apology swears to spend the rest of his life doing the work to redeem himself for his crimes.

Killian Jones (Once Upon a Time) - As Dark Hook, Killian had his epiphany followed by sacrificing his life to stop what he had set in motion. But not only were the circumstances behind him being Dark Hook kind of iffy to start with, he also ended up managing to continue and complete his redemption even in death and beyond once he was resurrected by Zeus.

King Arthur (Once Upon a Time) - He actually managed to have a complete redemption process after dying thanks to the nature of the Underworld (alongside Killian Jones, no less).

Kylo Ren (Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker) - Unlike Darth Vader, Kylo Ren’s turn didn’t happen at the moment of his death. After a long struggle with his repressed remorse and guilt, Kylo Ren finally chose to act upon it and turn to the light side, going on to play a key role in saving the galaxy by using his Force bond with Rey to stop her from giving into Palpatine’s ploy to have her strike him down. It was only after achieving this that he ended up trading his life to revive Rey; the fact stands that he’d committed himself to good beforehand.

Loki (Thor: The Dark World) - He begins to feel some remorse for his evildoing following his mother’s death, leading to him teaming up with Thor and sacrificing his life for him. However, he ends up surviving, and rather than commit to redeeming himself he goes the safer route and returns to his old ways. In the climax of Thor: Ragnarok, he finally makes a turnaround to redemption, but he ends up immediately killed by Thanos afterward, though his redemption is still further progressed by two different time variants of him (TVA Loki and Classic Loki).

Miyo Takano, Teppei Houjou, Mamiya Rin, Shion Sonozaki, Satoko Houjou and others (Higurashi: When They Cry) - While in most realities these characters go unredeemed, the final permanent reality settled upon grants everyone their redemption...or in Satoko’s case, her villainy forms into it own entity that detaches itself from her, providing her a clean slate.

Piccolo and Vegeta (Dragon Ball) - Piccolo’s death in the Saiyan Saga and Vegeta’s deaths in the Freeza and Buu Sagas would not have qualified as redemption in of themselves. However, they were brought back to life and were thus able to redeem themselves in earnest.

Ricky Owens (Scooby Doo: Mystery Incorporated) - After being plagued by remorse for all the evil he’s done and been complicit in, Ricky Owens sacrifices his life saving the Mystery Incorporated gang from the Evil Entity. However, after the Evil Entity’s demise, history is rewritten so that this never happened...in fact, Ricky Owens was never evil to begin with now.

Scarlemagne (Kipo and the Age of Wonderbeasts) - Scarlemagne’s death was the crescendo of his redemption arc rather than some kind of last-minute event. Before his sacrifice, he had already felt remorse, apologized, put in the appropriate work and firmly redeemed himself.

Terra (Teen Titans) - In the animated series, Terra has a remorseful epiphany followed by her sacrificing her life to kill Slade and stop the erupting volcano her powers had triggered. However, she was eventually resurrected and, going by the feelings her repressed memories gave her, committed herself to living a normal life as a good citizen rather than awaken her powers and try to be a superhero, which would risk the same problems happening again.

Yuno Gasai (Future Diary) - She had a remorseful epiphany about what a monster she had become upon being confronted by her alternate younger self, but was still going to go through with her evil plan until Yuki intervened, which pushed her into taking her own life in order for his to be spared. However, said alternate Yuno would end up assimilating her life force and then set out to undergo redemption by getting into an actually healthy relationship with Yuki and working with him to build a better world for everyone, not just for herself and him.

Aversions:

Gabriel Agreste (Miraculous Ladybug) - He seemed to feel remorse for how much his evil-doing hurt his loved ones, particularly his son, for a moment upon his defeat. Then he sucker-punches Ladybug, steals the Miraculous of creation and destruction, and sacrifices his life to rewrite all of reality to meet his own selfish desires, including that nobody remembers all that he did wrong and even sanctify him as a hero. He was a horrible, selfish man to the end.

Xehanort (Kingdom Hearts III) - He never felt any remorse for anything he did and merely accepted his defeat and death. Somehow, this was enough to earn him a ticket to Heaven.

Sora and Riku Sohma HC'S

Rin was around 25 and Haru was around 23 when the twins were born

Their birthday is May 23 (possibly in '05 or '06), making them Geminis

(Sora is very into astrology, and everytime Riku makes her mad she calls him a "two-faced ducking Gemini")

Haru is the one who suggested names, after Kingdom Hearts characters

He half expected Rin to say no (she also loves video games and had played Kingdom Hearts with him before, so it's not like she didn't get the reference), but she didn't soooo

Haru was absolutely ecstatic about being a parent the second Rin found out she was pregnant. Rin had a much different reaction.

She wasn't angry about it; she and Haru had discussed having kids and she had decided she was ready. But when the reality of it hit her, she became very anxious.

Rin had a lot of flashbacks to her own childhood, and that didn't help at all

In addition, Rin was hospitalized through much of her pregnancy due to health complications.

When the twins were born, they were both put in the NICU; Sora came home after 3 weeks, and Riku after 5 weeks

Rin was also kept in the hospital for several weeks for her own health to be monitered

She also had really bad post-partum, and went to therapy for it until the twins were 3 months old

Riku was a fairly easy baby; he hardly ever fussed, ate well, and slept well. Strangers could hold him and he usually didn't cry. Just overall, a good baby.

Sora was the opposite. She was almost always fussy, woke up sporadically throughout the night, and wouldn't let any strangers hold her

Half the time, she wouldn't even let Rin hold her. Just Haru.

The stranger thing switched when they were about 5 months old; Riku developed stranger anxiety, and Sora did not. She became a social, bubbly baby who was always smiling.

This demeanor carried on for Sora throughout the years. She loved talking and playing.

Throughout their childhood years, both Sora and Riku loved Tohru. She would come visit their mom a lot.

As a toddler, she became very close with Mutsuki because they were both always running around

She got the habit of T-posing when excited from him; Mutsuki did it for a whole day as a joke, so she copied him. Then she never stopped.

She would also act as a walking baby doll for Kinu and Hibika, and they would dress her up and carry her around

Anytime Riku would meet someone, he would hide behind his mother's legs or bury his head in his father's chest. This lasted until he was about 7.

After that, he stopped being so anxious, but was still much more mellow than Sora and far less talkative.

Riku usually preferred to play by himself; although he did love following Hajime around at family gatherings (much to the older boy's annoyance)

Riku also liked listening to Kinu read stories to him, which she loved to do

Because Riku is so antisocial, it lead to him being bullied at school when he was young

At least, it did until Sora threatened to beat all his bullies up (she got suspended, but people stopped messing with Riku)

She still bullies Riku. But only she is allowed to do it.

Out of the Sohma kids, they are closest in age to Kagura's son (im calling him Kiyoshi), and Kagura's daughter (who I'm naming Sayuri)

Kiyoshi, Sayuri, and Sora often spend a lot of time gossiping together about things going on within the family or in their lives

Riku usually hangs out with them, but doesn't say nearly as much.

They're really close, but only see each other when the family is together because he goes to a different school

Sora and Riku both view Shiki and Mina as little siblings

Sora always smothers Shiki with hugs and will go out of her way to embarrass him (pinching his cheeks, talking to his crushes, etc.). She also goes to the batting cages with Mina just to cheer her on.

Riku shows his affection in smaller ways, such as pats on the head or shoulder and just being around them

They love going to Sohma family gatherings to see their cousins, but usually it's just their dad who brings them. Rin doesn't usually make an appearance, and when she does, she keeps a distance from everyone except Tohru and Kagura.

Sora was always slightly closer with their dad, whereas Rikh was always slightly closer with their mom. They still have a great bond with both of them, though (video games = family bonding activities)

Rin and Haru always made sure to tell their kids that taking care of mental health was important and encouraged therapy/counseling if their kids ever needed it (they usually saw someone at least once a year, just to check in and chat about life)

Riku and Sora were diagnosed with autism and adhd respectively at about age 10

In terms of school, Riku always did better than Sora. •  In subjects he found super interesting, Riku would always get get A's. Other than that, he could keep a pretty steady A-B average

Sora was lucky to get an A or a B, and clung to the "C's get degrees" slogan for life

Sora was taller than Riku until they were 13-14, then she stopped growing and he didn't (she ended up being 5'3 and he ended up being 5'9)

She always tells people they meet that she is the older twin. They have to know.

Sora also loves teasing Riku about everything; for as stoic as he is, he can get easily flustered (no one can really tell except Sora, though). Sora, on the other hand, is embarrassed about nothing, so he can never get her back.

Sora and Riku love playing pranks on people. Riku is usually the brains behind it, whereas Sora actually carries it out.

This has gotten them into a lot of trouble at school and at home

Riku and Sora learned about the curse when they were 13.

They always knew their mother didn't like family gatherings, and especially did not like Akito, but didn't really know why.

Sora would asked about it as a child, but was never given a complete answer. Just something like "Well, Akita wasn't always nice to Mama." Or "It makes Mama remember things she doesn't like." Or something

She stopped asking for a while, but eventually she got curious again. So after a family gathering, she asked.

Haru and Rin decided the twins were old enough to know, and explained everything.

They explained the curse, and everything that went with it.

(They did give a warning beforehand, though. "If we tell you this, it may learn bad things about people you care about. Are you sure you want to know?")

Afterwards, Sora and Riku were both very angry. Not at their parents, but at everyone who failed them (specifically Akito).

They even stopped talking to Shiki for a while (the poor boy had no idea why)

Eventually, though, they got over it. They accepted that the past was past, and that Shiki had nothing to do with it either way.

Similarities between two of my favorite “quick-to-change-personalities”, overprotective, strong, emotion-driven men of specific fandoms: Anakin Skywalker and Hatsuharu Sohma

(With the Obi Wan Kenobi series coming out, I’ve been in a Star Wars kick, and this parallel just popped into my head. I had to jot down my thoughts and share.)

1. Both have interesting birth stories.

Anakin was claimed to have been conceived by the midi-chlorians.

Hatsuharu was born with the zodiac curse of the cow.

2. Both have masters that taught them fighting skills and life lessons.

For Anakin, it is Obi Wan Kenobi

For Hatsuharu, it is Kazuma Sohma

3. Both are in love with a girl who is older than them, and that love started at young ages. They eventually get married.

Padmé is 5 years older than Anakin.

Rin is 2 - 3 years older than Hatsuharu.

4. Both also end up having twin children; one boy and one girl.

Anakin and Padmé have Luke and Leia

Hatsuharu and Rin have Sora and Riku

5. Both can flip their lids quickly with the tempers they have, and those tempers can get them into trouble.

Anakin is a very emotional Jedi, and Jedis are told not to let their emotions get in the way of their actions. These emotions concerning all different things end up leading him to joining the Dark Side to become Darth Vader.

Hatsuharu has a dark persona known as Dark Haru was created to be a defense mechanism to “block out” the ridicules from other Sohmas about him being the Ox.
