When Anakin wakes, it’s to the feeling of Obi-Wan’s fingers carding through his hair.

It takes a moment for him to blink the room into focus. He’s still stretched out on the couch, his head pillowed on Obi-Wan’s lap. The holoscreen in front of them is dark; he hadn’t intended to drift off, not when the holofilm had only just started, but the comfortable warmth of his favorite cold-weather tunic, along with Obi-Wan’s gentle, reassuring presence in the Force, had clearly been too much for him. 

Their most recent mission—a high-stakes reconnaissance effort—hadn’t been a long one. But it had been demanding, physically and mentally. Before they’d even returned home, Obi-Wan had put in a request for a few extra days of leave. 

Anakin wants to take advantage of that time. He doesn’t want to waste it kriffing sleeping. But… There’s something perfect about waking up like this. Maybe it’s the way Obi-Wan’s touch lights up every nerve; maybe it’s the fact that they have nowhere to be, and nothing to do but be together.

“Sorry,” Anakin says, finally turning to look up at Obi-Wan. “Didn’t mean to fall asleep.”

“You were tired,” Obi-Wan replies easily, a soft smile curving his lips. The corners of his eyes crinkle as he meets Anakin’s gaze. “Besides,” he reasons, glancing briefly at the dark screen, “it was one we’ve seen before.” 

Anakin concedes with a small huff of a laugh. They sit in companionable silence, Obi-Wan still combing lightly through his curls, until Obi-Wan’s focus is drawn to Anakin’s jaw. 

“This is looking better,” Obi-Wan says, studying Anakin’s newest scar. His expression grows thoughtful as he moves his hand down to trace his thumb slowly over the fading line. “I love you,” he murmurs, his quiet sincerity an incandescent echo in the Force. “I’m afraid I don’t tell you enough.”

“You tell me plenty,” Anakin insists, his heart thumping in his chest. He reaches up to cover Obi-Wan’s hand with his own. “I love you too. I know I tell you too much, but… I like saying it.”

With a look of utter fondness, Obi-Wan replies, “I like hearing it.”

Song that makes you cry? Anything by Citizen Soldier, honestly. Great band, give them a listen! Most of the lyrics are written in response to the lead singers struggle with their mental health in the past. They are super relatable, and helped me through some hard times!

Song that makes you happy: Right now, it's the album 'Take Me Back to Eden' by Sleep Token. I'm ✨o b s e s s e d ✨. I've literally had it on repeat since it dropped in may and I simply cannot.

And finally, do you write/draw/create? Yes I do!!! I'm a fic writer and an artist, though I've been focusing on fic more lately. I do need to find the inspiration to dive back into art again though...

What book are you currently reading? I’m reading "Making Evil: The Science Behind Humanity's Dark Side" by Dr Julia Shaw. My little raccoon brain is hoarding information that actually answers a lot of questions I have about people and myself.

What’s your favorite movie you saw in theaters this year? I don't usually go to the cinema, but I did go to see "Jurassic World: Dominion" to pamper my dinosaur-obsessed inner child. The movie is not perfect, but I enjoyed it ♥.

What do you usually wear? Jeans, sneakers, and some t-shirt. If it's for work, boots, jeans and a shirt.

What’s something you were excited about that turned out to be disappointing this year? My holidays in the Dominican Republic; I had fun! but I struggled the whole time because it was very, very hard to find vegetarian options. Every meal was a situation™️.

Writing advice question - what do you do when you just hit a wall with a piece? (I've got a prompt fill I've written 3 different versions of and I'm not happy with any of them.) Do you just keep writing until something good comes out? Or does it vary depending on what you're working on?

It varies a lot.

Sometimes i just put the fic on hold for a while. (Sometimes I give up on it entirely.)

Sometimes I force myself to write one sentence a day until I get past the block.

Sometimes I skip the scene I don’t want to write and move on to the scenes I do. (Sometimes it turns out that the scene I didn’t want to write wasn’t necessary anyway.)

Sometimes I whine at @tisfan and she 1) helps me figure out why I’m blocked, 2) helps me figure out what I want to happen next, 3) gets really excited about whatever it is, which replenishes my enthusiasm, and/or 4) drags me off to write something else until I get back in the habit of Making The Words Go. (Having a writing friend is Very Useful.)

That probably was entirely unhelpful, but that’s my answer. Sorry if it didn’t help much!

Okay, I'll give you a mix of some fics I really love and I'll split them up into categories so you can choose based on your mood haha.

Padawan gen fics (a lot are discipline... okay, you know who you're asking, right?):

Truants and Trains by @adaliak and @peachybitters - Sometimes padawans just need to blow off a little steam. But when Obi-Wan Kenobi skips class at the Temple to go into the city with Quinlan Vos, they might end up learning a different type of lesson.

A Mountain Retreat by @peachybitters - Obi-Wan and his young Padawan, Anakin, go to stay with friends in the mountains of Alderaan. Anakin learns to love snow, and finds new ways to get himself into trouble. Mistakes are made and lessons are learned, and a lot of fun is had along the way.

When the Master's Away... by @adaliak (not technically a discipline fic, but it has vibes) - When Obi-Wan goes out, leaving Anakin alone, the mischievous Padawan decides to flaunt all his master's rules. As always with Anakin, disaster ensues.

qui-gon jinn and his two disaster children by @dells-bells - Obi-Wan Kenobi defeated the Sith Lord Darth Maul, an extraordinary and heroic act which earned him promotion from Padawan learner to Jedi Knight. Qui-Gon Jinn survived his near-brush with death, and after much deliberation and some reluctance, the Jedi Council granted him permission to take on the training of the young Anakin Skywalker as his new Padawan learner.

Smoke Me and Never Quit Me by @edge-ofnight - In his last semester at university, Anakin and his professor share and bond over the same bad habit.

Sorry I’ve been a little quiet over here! I was wrapped up in the holiday chaos, but I’ve returned to start the year off with some obikin fic.

This was a secret santa gift for @fishnamedsushi (I’m so so thrilled you liked it!) 💙

Anakin looked up with a start. He had nearly forgotten the timbre of Obi-Wan’s voice, the rich smoothness that had so often made him weak in the knees.

“Obi-Wan. Hi.” It was perhaps the least articulate thing he could’ve said—but Anakin couldn’t help it. Looking into Obi-Wan’s eyes was like being swept out to sea. There were no landmarks. There was only sky, and ocean, and the infinite rocking of the waves. A man could lose himself forever in those eyes, and not mind being lost.

“Um,” Anakin tried again, incapable of tearing his gaze away. “You’re here.”

Obi-Wan smiled at him. God, Anakin had missed that smile. “Yes, I am. My schedule opened up, rather unexpectedly—and I wanted to see you.”

For a moment, Anakin thought his heart might actually stop beating. “You did?”

2021 fic review!

I’m not exactly the most prolific writer (understatement), so some of this is going to be a bit silly, but I’ll do my best 😊

total number of completed works: 1 completed one-shot and 3 completed chapters from a long multichapter fic

total word count: ~22,000

looking back did you write more, less, or the expected amount of fic this year? Much, much less. 

your own favourite story of this year? err, awkward question for my fic situation, lol. A & E will be my favorite of the two when it’s done, I guess?

did you take any writing risks this year?: I suppose so – Lullaby was a departure from my usual style, whatever that is, and it didn’t have a traditional happy ending, which is weird because that’s usually what I want to read and write. Also, for me, Laid Bare (chapter 23 of A & E) was really scary to post... I tend to want to use direct personal experience for reference when writing feelings, to make things as realistic and human as possible, but some of the intimacy there felt a bit foreign to write. It was also the first time I shared any art with a chapter on Ao3.

do you have any fanfic goals for the new year? I’m going to finish Adrift and Entangled in 2022, guys. Even if it kills me.

most popular story of the year?:  Technically A & E, but Lullaby got way more positive feedback in a very short timeframe. A & E is still popular, but I think I’ve lost a lot of readers because I’m so slow, and that’s totally understandable but also a bit of a bummer because some were so very supportive and I feel like I’ve let them down :(

story most under appreciated?:  This would probably be more relevant if I wrote more, but I don’t feel like anything I’ve done has been underappreciated. Honestly, if anything, my work has probably gotten more appreciation that it deserves (but I am beyond grateful for it and consistently overwhelmed by the love!)

most fun to write?:  Not one story/chapter in particular, really. Any bits of Obikin banter are always the most fun for me to write.

most unintentionally telling story?:  I… don’t know? I mean if you look close, I tend to project my insecurities onto both of my main characters pretty frequently, but no one story (or chapter, I suppose) stands out. 

biggest disappointment?: Probably just that I haven’t written as much as I’d hoped. Anxiety and depression take a serious toll on creativity and motivation, as it turns out, and my mental health hasn’t taken a hit like this since grad school (I’m pushing 40 folks, so that was a while ago!)

biggest surprise?: The response to Lullaby. It was actually a comfort to write, and I didn’t realize it would hit people so hard. But I’ve never really been able to cry reading fiction, so I guess that warped my expectations a bit?

my favourite part of fandom this year? So I fell in love with obikin in maybe 2018(?) but 2021 was really the first full year I felt like I was part of the fandom, because I discovered tumblr and discord and have been able to actually interact with like-minded people in more than just a comment-and-reply-on-Ao3 capacity. There’s a lot of talent here, and I love that, but even the fans who hang back, the folks who maybe aren’t artists or writers, literally everyone I’ve come across in this fandom has been so wonderful. Welcoming, kind, funny, interesting, just lovely. And I also appreciate with my whole heart that no one here seems judgmental about age :)
