"And then we kind of went into this baroque kind of… I'm actually in that photo, you can't really see, but I'm on the right-hand side texting as a little homage to A Brief Inquiry, oh… they're coming. The phones are coming. Little easter eggs. But it's because when I was a kid and I was playing video games, I'd be playing like, Ecco the Dolphin, and then the thousandth time I'd play it, I'd jump at a particular time and press a button or something… and I'd go into a different world where programmers would do that, they would put little easter eggs, and I felt like it was talking to me. It's more like a natural conclusion that, in the way that our records sound mental or whatever, it's only 'cause we don't want to be bored. And we make music all the time. So they have to sound mental to not be bored. I make artwork all the time. I don't want to be bored. So I make it fun."

Now I think I know

Perhaps they never will
fall out boy is so fascinating because anyone who doesnt know anything about fall out boy thinks theyre only relevant to millenials who had intense emo phases while anyone who is a huge fall out boy fan is aware of the fact that every single album they release has gotten them a wave of new young fans. and actually thats not even true because every album second album cycle the fans from the one before the last one are like what do you mean you became a fan during the last album cycle i didnt think anyone was still onboarding. and this is going to go on forever until they retire probably.
edit: i must assume you like fall out boy. consider: fall out boy pins.
Do you think there are parallels between “By Your Side” and “False God”?
Hi anon! So, since 'By Your Side' is a cover of a Sade song, I haven't really over-analyzed the lyrics since they're not actually Matty's own words (though it does share similarities with the general themes you find in both Matty and Taylor's music, and it's probably an important song in Matty's musical inspirations) but I do think the songs are very sonically similar! Taylor's use of saxophone in False God instantly gave me 1975 vibes, as well as the little distorted electronic sounds/voices throughout the song.
Speaking of which, the very end of 'False God' with its repetitious "I love you"s reminds me a lot of 'Then Because She Goes':
A good tactic when it comes to tackling Taylor's lyrical parallels is to search song titles. So, let's check out "by your side" for fun and see what we find…
Ah, Mr. Perfectly Fine! I'd suggest giving that one another listen, and when you do, I'd go ahead and pair it with Robbers! If you don't hear it, here's a little help.
*i know that conventional weapons was released as a series of EPs but many people refer to them as a collective work so i counted it due to the total length
It's time for machine comforts. Comforts we can't understand, or experience. Let them be happy, let them be at peace with their body.
Does a breath of cool water feel nice on their systems? When it's quiet do they listen to their own heart and feel the electricity pulsing? Does it remind them that they are alive and a part of this world? Do they have dreams? Hopes and projects they wish to work on, hobbies?
Why get off the string into the harsh and deadly world, fighting for survival and losing everything they've ever known to love about themselves?
What about the safety of their bodies? How scary would it be for a machine with thousands, maybe millions of throughs to suddenly have just a handful. The horror of everything going silent.
They have hundreds of eyes to see the world for all its beauty, they capture moments that would otherwise go unseen. Why blind themselves of such things?
