Fluid Art Stuff: Ok, so here is the piece I poured on the weekend - all dry! It's so pretty!! 😍😍😍 But not perfect. There was too much paint on the canvas so it has dried unevenly - hard to see in the photos. I'll put my thinking cap on to see how I can remedy that or...use the boo-boo and take the piece in a different direction 😁 Gotta love doing art - no 'effin' rules!!!! How nerve messages travel from the brain 🧠 The human brain is composed of a network of tiny cells called neurons, and each neuron is connected to each other via synapses. For instance, if you wanted to like this post, your brain would utilize its motor area, to send a signal to each tiny little neuron. The signal travels via synapses to the corticospinal tract ( a channel that runs from the brain to the spinal cord) and from here the journey becomes interesting. It travels through the Midbrain, the Pons and the Medulla. On reaching the Medulla, the signal crosses over a point called the Pyramidal Decussation, like it was crossing a highway 🛣 From here it travels through the spinal cord and exits via the lower motor neuron. At this point, the nerve forms another synapse with the muscles of your fingers: the Neuromuscular Junction. There are millions of these junctions connected to each of the muscle fibers of your fingers. These will signal to them to contract and relax using chemicals called neurotransmitters. After waiting for weeks for it to come in, this book finally arrived at the library. In bits and pieces, it turned out. “We made a note of the battered condition,” the librarian told me, as I tried not to laugh so hard at how the ragged pages and defunct spine fit the content so perfectly. 👌🏼😂

A few weeks ago we posted a mystery photo. The photo was of frog eggs (most likely Wood Frog). A likely scenario is that the female was eaten by a predator on her way to the breeding pond (possibly a Barred Owl) and the eggs were all that were left uneaten. A number of people guessed that the mystery picture was of tick eggs. A little internet research yielded a viral and misidentified photo that went around a few years ago. The picture showed frog eggs mislabeled as tick eggs, and (in all capitol letter) instructions to burn the “nest.” This led to the question of what do tick eggs actually look like? Luckily, for the sake of scientific inquiry, the dog then left a full tick on the floor of the living room. #WhatAGoodDog After living in a jar for about 3 weeks it was was noticed that the mama tick had laid her eggs. When comparing the tick eggs with frog eggs the size difference is dramatic. (The third picture is zoomed in, and each little clump is of multiple eggs). There is a picture of the tick with her eggs. It was a beautiful coincidence that my maternal and paternal grandparents entered into the conjugal bliss on the same auspicious date. They have been such special people with wisdom and pride, always offering love and always there to guide. As a child so often have they made me feel confident and strong.
