As a lesbian I have to agree with the anon mentioning the seeming fetishization of female characters in Warriors. It seems very popular to pair each and every single female cat with each other no matter the compatibility or other concerning factors simply because it’s WLW. I’ve also actually encountered some comment sections of ship discussions where people will straight up say X ship is immediately the best because it’s lesbians despite the ship being discussed is toxic or having a large enough questionable age gap. I also dislike the culture of pairing female cats with another female cat who was abused by the same mate or both had shitty partners. Not everyone who is on their own healing journey is compatible with someone else also on their own healing journey. Sometimes it can make it worse, from personal experience. I don’t see it much where people let the female characters simply take some time to heal in their own time and pace without a female partner to “cure them”. It’s usually portrayed as “they’re both better now because they’re lesbians so they’re both healed now no questions asked they’re immediately happy no problems at all they’re lesbians look at them my lesbians!” which is… kinda weird? I mostly see this with Moonlight and Squilf which is it’s own can of worms given that Moonlight literally kidnapped Squilf and is sexist to toms, which I doubt Squilf would stand for since her own sons adopted and blood related to her are toms and she loves her children no matter their identity. It makes me feel like lesbian love life in Warriors fandom spaces is often stemmed with this weird “UwU my gay babies they’re in love and they’re babies they’re gay babies” energy and I don’t like it. The anon that described it as like being akin to pairing dolls up said it best.

I think it’s more common with new fans and “baby’s first WLW ship” like Mothpool, but it’s still annoying and kinda weird. I’m a Mothpool shipper myself and there’s certain fans of it that I refuse to interact with because of above reasons. I hate when some people infantilize the ship making Leafpool seem like a “dumb naive baby who is helpless and weak and can’t save herself” and Mothwing is her “big strong duchess in armor coming to save her”. Yes, I’ve actually seen comments and artwork depicting this sort of dynamic and it feels off. Why portray it like this? Also it portrays Leafpool OOC?

Okay sorry it got long I just really wanted to get it off my chest. All I’m saying is to please not fetishize lesbian love. It only harms us in the end and does us no good. Ship things with respect for the orientations it is centered around and stop treating these ships like this. Signed, a real life lesbian.

ok but I'm actually starting to get pissed off and annoyed with this weird family dynamic stuff they're doing in mk1 just to try to stop the gay ships that's been around for a while now.

like subscorp (Kuai x Hanzo), bitomas, subsmoke (Kuai x Tomas. I'm not too much of a fan of this ship but I'll mention it anyway) and shaoko, idk if there's anything else but lmk if I missed anything I guess.

but Imma mainly talk about my main ship here; bitomas.

I would like to add that I'm not a proshipper in any way cus fuck that shit. so don't frame me as one.

this is the only recent game where they're both in it together but they make them step bros yet I've seen people make mk1 subscorp and no one is really complaining about it and it gets a bunch of likes, which is WORSE than mk1 bitomas because it's ACTUAL incest. mk1 bitomas isn't incest, they're not related to each other in any way. they're not even the same race.

so I got a little hc/story for y'all:

sometime after the brothers' dad takes Tomas in, Tomas falls for Bi and his whole idolization for Bi is a coverup to try to hide his crush on him from Bi and Kuai. yes he gets close with Kuai as in best friends but he feels this is something he should keep to himself for now.

Bi wasn't actually always mean to Tomas, at some points he might have been cold to him sometimes but that's just Bi, just cus he was cold to him, doesn't mean he didn't care for him.

but then at some point Bi-Han fell for Tomas, probably starting in his teen years, but since he didn't know how to express it or deal with it, he acts how he acts towards him like how he does in mk1. it's because he never felt this way before towards anyone, let alone a guy. so he pretty much acts kinda like a tsundere in a way. keep in mind, even before this, Bi still didn't see Tomas as his brother and Tomas obviously didn't see him that way either cus of his crush on him.

all those years their feelings for each other got stronger and stronger, which made Bi more cold to Tomas, which was the time he told him that line in that one scene in mk1 about him not being brothers or Lin Kuei.

but after the betrayal of Bi-Han, while Kuai and Tomas were making the Shirai Ryu, Tomas snuck back to the Lin Kuei at night to see Bi-Han.

they fought because Bi started it, he did think Tomas was there to kill him or was there for some revenge but all Tomas wanted to do was talk. after the fight, Tomas managed to get Bi to stop.

they talked for awhile, Tomas asking the question as to why Bi-Han did all of this in the first place, why he was cold to him, why he got so much colder after all the years. Bi was hesitant to tell him, especially now since he thinks its too late to let him know the truth, he probably ruined all chances he had with him now.

but he did tell him anyway, he told him the truth, everything. from the very beginning to now. Tomas wasn't expecting this, he didn't think Bi felt the same way towards him but was he really telling the truth about the other stuff?

Bi-Han backed away after he told him, he understood that he might not believe his words anymore. Tomas stayed silent on Bi's bed, thinking, before he spoke and told him that he should tell Kuai this truth even if Kuai might not believe it.

he paused for a moment before he spoke, agreeing with Tomas. he then called him to Bi's bed, Bi was hesitant because he wasn't sure of it, he didn't know if he should.

after a few minutes, Bi joined him in bed and Tomas held him, confessing his love to him too, even after everything, he still has the same love for him like the first time he fell for him.

they wind up being together in secret for months as Tomas helped Kuai with the clan. during that time, Bi did told the truth to Kuai too and apologized for it. Kuai is a bit hesitant to forgive him right now but he will consider it. he will still work on his own clan as it still feels like the right thing to do.

We’ve seen it with Sebek a couple of times, even though Sebek doesn’t really obliterate him psychologically (he is much weaker than Idia in this sense…), but I think Idia tends to talk back. Idia is quite stubborn, and talking back and escalating the situation is one of his biggest defence mechanisms. He is the master shit-talker and a genius of snark, so he might win against the majority of people + he is so self-deprecating that not a lot of people would know what to say to him to actually hurt his feelings – Idia berates himself much worse than that on a regular basis + expects that everyone hates his guts anyway. But I don’t think it’s impossible to shut him up using only verbal abuse… Lilia might be the one who succeeds at that, actually.

You are so right with m/f stuff! I’m not familiar with a lot of VBS shipping discourse, but it’s annoying to see how people can’t write an analysis on how important Tsukasa is to Rui without others dog piling them and saying they’re delusional and ignoring canon for their yaoi “with no content”. (At least on twitter, tumblr is much better with this) And as someone whose also bisexual, it’s so annoying seeing people use bisexuality as a gotcha to ship m/f and act as if its progressive and that it gives them the okay to hate on f/f and m/m pairings.

YES YES EXACTLY. God I hate when people keep saying that ruikasa has no content and their dynamic is underdeveloped whenever anyone talks about them. Like as biased as I am because I like the ship, they do have a very developed dynamic regardless of if you like the ship or not. Literally there's three events about it (potato and pandemonium + it was a pretty big background element in curtain call), one of which is the third event in the game. like if you don't like ritk that's perfectly fine, but when people are dogpilling ritk shippers for talking about their dynamic/pandemonium chapter 8/wtv and saying they're reaching, especially if the person doing this is an account dedicated to another rui ship/are a rui fan, it's a bad look because you're literally ignoring a very significant part of his arc. Ignoring massively important aspects of a character you claim to like just because of a ship is low. This fandom is way too set on everything being about shipping like bruh no one is telling you that you had to view pandemonium as romantic you can view it as platonic perfectly fine and not need to erase parts of rui's character to justify your rui/female character ship.

it's an especially weird situation with VBS as well. as much as I hold the earlier EN fandom to a higher standard there was a lot of discourse around VBS and the fact that they're implied gay. like it used to be a situation where if you admitted you shipped m/f vbs you would get jumped. as a comeback people would accuse biphobia but i never saw huge amounts of people being actually biphobic. saying "an and kohane are quite heavily implied to be lesbians (and it makes some people uncomfortable to see them shipped with men)" is a true statement but people didn't need to attack others over it. not liking a bi headcanon isn't biphobic unless you're actually being biphobic about it yknow? luckily it calmed down after a while but now you get jumped for not shipping m/f which leads us straight back to the statement about an and kohane. gbr the situation with vbs shipping nowadays is much worse than the situation when i first joined, obviously partially bc of the massive increase in fandom size but mainly because people are spewing actual homophobic rhetoric over akty ankh (someone literally tried to claim heterophobia was real bc of people not liking m/f vbs a couple months ago. actually this has happened multiple times).

AND YES GOD THIS FANDOM'S APPROACH TO BI HEADCANONS IS SO FUCKING ANNOYING. Like people only use it as a way to make m/f ships more queer and try to 1 up people with it because oh yes male/female couple are not the norm at all and they're so cool and different and if you add a bi/pan hc on top of that it makes you more progressive (/s). HCing a character as bi does not give you cool points and the fact that so many people only do it for m/f ships pisses me off to no end because people treat it like Straight 2 when bi people can be in m/m and f/f relationships. People can hc whatever they want ofc but it's so obvious sometimes that people are only using bi hcs as a way to quickly round off their hcs for every character so they can multiship or justify their m/f ships as queer and at that point I'd rather they just hc'd them as straight because I don't like seeing my identity used solely for the purpose of making a ship more queer because someone doesn't want their m/f to be a hetship.

She’s such an interesting and multifaceted character, she’s so smart, brave, and emotionally intelligent but she’s also allowed to be comic relief and have childish interests and need help frequently and be very insecure like a lot of real teenage girls are.

The AA fandom is so fucking focused on Wrightworth that they shove Maya to the side SO frequently despite the fact that she’s not only probably the second most important character in the trilogy, after Phoenix, she’s GENUINELY INTERESTING too. And yet nobody sincerely gives a fuck about her as a character because she’s not relevant to Shipping. People do NOT want to acknowledge Ace Attorney isn’t just the “gay lawyer game” and that the trilogy is honestly more focused on Phoenix and Maya’s platonic friendship than it is on Phoenix and Edgeworth. And then sometimes she’s horribly mischaracterized and paired off with Franziska just to fulfill that annoying “obligatory wlw side pairing” trope.

It’s probably even worse that she’s just Phoenix’s friend, because she doesn’t even get in the way of the yaois. People just actively choose not to give a shit about her.

I don’t make the rules. I didn’t make the ships. I’m just stating facts.

There’s not a single pair up there that passes the pure wholesome healthy relationship challenge. Yet, people (antis) still ship them, and ship them very aggressively. Funny that. If what you ship reflects your morals, then why are you poisoning your blessed soul by consuming such filth? What are you trying to say about yourselves?

If you feel the need to justify why it’s okay to ship [X] beyond “because I like it,” you need to take a hard look at your relationship with the concept of shame.

As someone who understands fiction is not the same as reality, I can ship any one of these ships without worrying about compromising on my morals. Because I don’t attach morality to shipping. Scandalous, I know! Liking is not the same as being. My liking a het ship as a queer person does not make me any less queer. It doesn’t straighten me out, if you will. And shipping “healthy” ships does not a good upstanding moral person make, especially if you’re just doing it to appear better than those who ship “unhealthy” bad problematic ships. Who are you sticking it to? Because it’s not the people who ship badwrong, they’re not the ones looking for brownie points. I promise, they don’t care. That’s the same as doing good deeds with the express purpose of getting into Heaven, and not because it makes you feel good to just be nice to people. Ulterior motives show your true intent. And in case you have’t noticed, none of the ships in Heathers are healthy. At all. With the possible exception of one. But it barely counts because it features an extremely minor character.

There shouldn’t be any antis or anti-leaning people (or minors, but overlap) in the Heathers fandom as a whole because Heathers has always been about problematic things with problematic people, which WILL spill over into their ships.

If two individually fucked up people get into a relationship, you can’t expect them to never showcase unhealthy behavior toward each other. Not only is that highly unrealistic, but that’s toxic in and of itself. Even healthy couples fight sometimes, that’s just how it is.

Veronica only sees the Heathers as a means to an end. Chandler sees Veronica as a disobedient doll, and Duke a nuisance. J.D. thinks the answer to Westerburg’s bully problem is murder, and tricks Veronica into taking part twice; he even intended to kill her if he couldn’t win her back. Duke turned on McNamara the first chance she got (in the movie she was ecstatic about it). McNamara explicitly set Veronica up for date rape in the musical (it doesn’t matter she was too dumb to realize it, she still did it), and both she and Duke took part in slut-shaming Veronica after (Off-Broadway only; in West End it’s all Duke now). Veronica left McNamara, who we saw clearly trying to fight off an explicitly drunk Ram, alone to get slushies with her boyfriend in the movie. Worse: she left her with TWO drunk and horny high school guys. Also in the movie, Veronica slapped Duke and then tried to slap her again the very next day. Kurt and Ram are assholes to everyone and the JOKE was that they were gay. Even Fleming, the one adult who looked like she wanted to help, was really just in it for herself.

“But I don’t ship the canon dynamics of the characters, I’m just here for the AUs!”

That’s valid and all, but listen. Just because you toss the characters in an AU where nothing is toxic and everyone is happy and no one dies does not mean the original portrayals of the characters and their unhealthy dynamics in canon suddenly cease to exist. You had to take those characters from somewhere in order to change them to suit your sanitized happy fluffy funtime world. Consider the Ship of Theseus thought experiment: if you change enough about the character, is it even the same character anymore? Ascribing a certain sexuality to the characters (Veronica is bi, Chandler is lesbian, Kurt and Ram are gay) doesn’t make it true if they don’t explicitly say so in the source material. Conversely, that doesn’t make it not true either, but what looks gay to you could be bi to me, or pan to someone else. Individual interpretations are not universal.

We can watch the movie over and over looking for the smallest of details to support our headcanons or spark new theories as to what’s really going on, and we can continue to put on the musical all over the globe with changes as needed for the times, but those fun little headcanons AUs we love are just that: alternate universes. Fanon. Canon only in your Head, not canon to what we got in the movie or the recordings of the musical or to anyone else if they choose not to accept it. Hell, we can still ignore the word of the actors playing the characters if we choose to. We got what we got and we won’t be getting anything new. We tried getting something new and look how well the TV show went over. (Btw that shit was fun. Stupid, trippy, and absolutely insane, but fun once you turn your brain off lol.)

I love Jdronica both in spite of and because of their toxicity. I love how he encourages her to be bad and she encourages him to be better. I love how clever they both are, how in spite of their individual intelligence their love made them stupid and reckless. I love how they’re two lonely people who made it work for a while because they were willing to try for each other, and how absolutely futile it is because she realized she deserved better and so does he, but he just couldn’t let go because he’s finally found something to believe in, something good and solid and real and she’s taking away his purpose. I love how he started off with the fierce desire to protect her from the monsters, and in the end he realized he had to protect her from him. It’s fucked up, but it’s also fucking beautiful.

OMG I saw your recent ask and tbh I relate with your feelings about BL because of the behavior of some fans… 😭 Sexuality HCs are fun and all, but when certain fans flip out on you bc you don’t share the same HC, it isn’t so fun anymore… And some fans of uh, certain ships tend to become particularly aggressive when you don’t share their ship. Like they act like you just insulted their life and then they want to make you repent tenfold. 🤧 (I guess it’s just average day in Genshin fandom)

And the fetishization thing, I really feel this… Sometimes the way the fans act about gay relationships gives me the same vibes as the men who fetishize+dehumanize lesbian and bisexual women, as a wlw girl myself both situations feel really icky… (ofc the latter group is far more of a hazard irl but this is just about the general vibes).

Sorry this really isn’t an “ask” and feel free to hide this as I don’t want to bring bad people and negative feelings to your blog because of this post, but basically just wanted to say: I agree with you 🫡

I appreciate you sending this in Anon! You put it into words much better than I did. If anyone has an issue with it, they can simply block and unfollow me. You shouldn't have to walk on eggshells for saying you don't like something for legitimate reasons.

It really sucks out all the fun of participating in fandom when other people in the community won't allow you to enjoy your thing in peace. The way some people take shipping so seriously to the point of harassing anyone who doesn't share their ship is just aggravating and concerning. I swear shipping wasn't this bad some 7-8 years ago when everyone was content to mind their own business. Nowadays, you get called homophobic for simply not liking a ship that so happens to have characters of the same sex.

The word homophobia gets used as a shield to discredit anyone who disagrees with a gay or lesbian ship for whatever reason. This downplays what real homophobia is like, which is so much worse than not liking a pairing between pixels on a screen. Rather than fighting over the sexuality of fictional characters, that energy should go towards supporting and protecting the rights of real homosexual, bisexual, and asexual people.

What you said regarding the similar vibes of women fetishizing fictional gay relationships to men fetishizing lesbians/bisexual women is so true. Men fetishizing lesbian and bi women is just as gross, if not more so, since they do it to real women a lot. One time I was hanging out with my sister, and we encountered a guy who asked if we were out on a date. We clarified that no, we're sisters, and he said it would still be hot if we were together. Like wtf. I dislike men like this just as much as the women who fetishize gay relationships.

My heart goes out to all homosexual and bisexual individuals who have to deal with this behavior. It's gross. Your sexual orientation is not a kink for others to get off to.

Anyways, thank you for your sharing your thoughts with me, Anon. It's always good to know there are others who dislike the toxic behaviors of the BL community in certain fandoms.

Since it’s pride month I think a fascinating thing about the progress of how LGBT people are represented in society and media is how queer couples became more accepted into the mid-to-late 2010s and ordinarily shows that only had straight couples were allowed to, and sometimes tried, to add a non-heterosexual couple into the show’s canon.

I think the most fascinating example of this was bubbeline, or the ship between Princess Bubblegum and Marceline the vampire queen from the cartoon Adventure time.

The show ran from 2010 to 2018 and was in the prime position to build this ship up in later seasons, which helped since as far back as season 3 of the show Marceline and Bonnabel had been implied to be friends for a long time.

What’s also interesting was that in the early days, the show may not have intended for them to get together romantically, as they both had ex-boyfriends.

Episode 1 of the show has P.B. Try to revive her old boyfriend Old Mr. Creampuff from the dead, and another episode has Finn and Jake tricked by Marceline’s ex boyfriend to remove the memory of their breakup.

So a lot of the early seasons of Adventure Time really imply these two women to be straight, until the later seasons. They hang out together A LOT in the later seasons, and share a canon kiss in the finale, which really coincides with the Obgerfell Vs Hobbes court case and changes in censorship for kids media.

And to be fair, they were the best fit for each other. The only primary male characters Princess Bubblegum knew were Finn, who is underage until the 1st season of the show, Jake who is a dog and in a relationship with her steed and friend lady rainicorn, and her serial kidnapper the Ice King. Marceline was like, the only other adult who was nice and obviously attracted to her. It’s a funny pipeline from 2 straight women to a sapphic (I think) pairing between 2 bisexual women.

So I think Adventure Time is really a time capsule of how LGBT representation progressed with the legal protection of gay marriage by the supreme court.

Now I know this is a Homestuck account so I’ll finish off with an addendum.

Homestuck was ahead of the curve since it doesn’t have to deal with federal regulation by broadcast media by television.

Hussie had canon same-sex couples in the comic by 2012, implied same-sex attraction between 2 characters (Kanya and Rose) by 2011, and a race of Bisexual aliens (and Kanaya said to be a lesbian exception to the rule) by 2010.

This representation really helped struggling queer people finding their identity in the early 2010s. It’s a good thing that came from queer Homestuck ships, for better (RoseMary) or for worse (DAVE-KAT)

It just sucks that Finn's character had to be ruined during Adventure Time's run. But I can definitely agree that Bubbleline definitely is one of the better cartoons to show how LGBT was able to be pushed through TV media during its time. Rosemary's buildup was definitely better in early acts of Homestuck. Just wish that Act 6 and Post Retcon did more besides being that lesbian couple. Cause at least with Bubbline, the two girls are distinct even when they are apart. Like Marceline being a vampire queen, can play the bass, beautiful vocals, and has quite a heavy backstory. Princess Bubblegum is a girl who is also a scientist, has committed atrocities in order for her to stay in power, and her origins are just as shocking as well. Even when they had episodes together before they were declared as a couple, the two girls are separate characters with their own dreams, motivations, and goals that isn't always about the partner. You don't get to see or hear anymore of Rose's psychoanalysis. Not even the silly girl side of her that isn't from alcohol. Where is her playful side that she would do with John or Dave? She probably treat Karkat the same way she did towards John since they are leaders and parallel to each other. Kanaya doesn't bring up fashion anymore or do anything on the meteor for people like Karkat, Dave, or Terezi. Hell, even in Post Retcon, she still seemed chill with Vriska despite that she was her ex-crush. Was she just happy to have two bad girls on the meteor that she would rather watch them in admiration and do nothing else? Homestuck may have been the earlier presence of LGBT themes and characters, but payoff for it all as it progressed just got worse that the built up for it was better in comparison.

I think we both accidentally got each other completely sold on this ship and we were both taken off guard by how well it worked. So much works - the eternal irony of Amy with Sonic's rival, the inevitable way she tempers Scourge's worst tendencies, bad boy x good girl as a trope, the way that they have so many of the same insecurities derived from their failure to get Sonic's attention.

Joining the "Blame Moon" brigade for ships, I had no reason to think that this would work but I'm now completely obsessed with their dynamic where Scourge is her dirty secret and bad habit and meanwhile he starts becoming possessive and wants to make her free in a way that's ones-upmanship with Sonic in one respect and an attempt to "help" that's in danger of taking her down a darker path.

Technically a form of Sonourge but I wanted to shout out the doomed-by-the-narrative pairing that is Cynourge. These two are simultaneously too fucking cute and also make me so damn emo, they could make it work with copious amounts of counseling but as it stands they are headed directly for disaster. I just want them to be "be gay, do crime" boyfriends but even as Scourge crawls towards getting better he ends up making Cynic worse while trying to help.

Scourge x Blaze

...I'm a complete sap for slow burn enemies-to-lovers, and this is also a form of Sonourge, so I already apologize for the way the muse fixates on her sometimes. Someone who completely sees through his bullshit, and as a result ends up sending him down a path that's actually surprisingly positive even as he continues to be a pest. Also continuing the pattern of pairing Scourge with all of Sonic's love interests (see Amy, Sally, Shadow, etc).

There’s a lot more ‘official’ representation these days but in the past, so many f/f ships were entirely based on subtext or the show was actively queerbaiting, so most of my ships weren’t canon. And there’s always the thing of shipping two women who click just for whatever reason that I’ve kept up even now, when one character ends up being gay or bi and gets a partner. That’s me now with New Amsterdam, I always loved the idea of Bloom and Sharpe together and even seeing all the setup for Sharowin from day 1, I was in denial ha. I love Lauren and Leyla but BloomSharpe will always own a piece of my heart, ‘real’ or not :,)

(Note: I actually did start answering this in April and then left it till now so this’ll be somewhat disjointed as I finish off my older thoughts.)

The subtext vs canon discussion is always super interesting, right! Sometimes it’s a question of which dueling ship from the various current fandoms is the one that wins the most attention from a smallish community but it’s really interesting when there’s friction between subtext and canon ships in the same show, though that happens less and less so now. I feel like the mid '10s will remain the peak of that, as media began to include canon f/f more regularly and a large part of fandom followed, while others stayed with subtext. Glee was a great example, since both ships were so huge, but you see that behavior in SC vs Alex's canon ships too, or, less so because Red Kansas or whatever could hardly compare, but SQ as well. I do remember when New Amsterdam started and idly noted the two female characters who actually interacted and had a friendship and wouldn’t have minded shipping them but Helen/Max seemed set up from the start and I wasn’t in the mood to battle that. [Me adding months later: It’s ironic now, whichever one was more popular, both Sharpe and Leyla are gone. :x]

But it was super interesting to see who was drawn to Faberry and who to Brittana, then the two combined for Clexa, and then split again into Sanvers and SC, for example. It seems to me that it really depends on people's individual engagement with ships, what is it they get invested in specifically. The subtext group essentially goes for the “ideal” pairing, usually main characters with rich backgrounds and histories and well-defined, multilayered relationships, deciding that romance makes the dynamic even better, or clearer. Even now you have KCFH and HotD offering scope for that. The canon group will usually, just as a matter of statistics, not get the main characters, but to them the romance is already the source of the richness, and they can add the rest of the character and relationship work.

Neither way is better or worse and there’s no hard rule, there’s lots of overlap, most people will switch back and forth, or like both. I myself am a character-first person and so you’d expect me to be more subtext but I’ve pivoted more into canon lately for sure. I was just telling my friend the other day about how on Peacock’s Vampire Academy, the two leads are SO ready-made to subtext ship, but so much time and energy was spent on their respective m/f relationships, as with Helen/Bloom above, I just didn’t have the time or energy for that fight. Or interest, to be fair, I suppose, if I was really into it, I’d make it work.

Whichhhh, I do have the time and energy and interest to make J/7 work. No other pairing for either of them can compare for me. You had four full 26-ep seasons developing this extremely pivotal mutually transformative relationship that changed both of them and the constantly influenced Voyager plots, I cannot move on from that.

Why do you dislike the way mcu fans portray fratt, I'm assuming you don't completely hate the ship but hate the portrayal by most fans.

I've answered this before in a few details in asks here and here but I will continue them with more info on this ask: Fratt was originally p niche in terms of mlm pairings for Matt, but unfortunately as more m/cu fans got into it, they began writing horrid fanfics including them either being extremely abusive, abo shit, ooc hell where it reads like the authors have never watched the show and only took context from gifsets of the netflix show on tumblr, to straight up ableism in terms of how they portray Matt in these stories. A lot of the good fratt writers I enjoyed have moved on from the pairing so it's just a cesspool at this point (I don't check the tag anymore but unfortunately, some of them add the daredevil comics tag and it'll sometimes show up). This goes for m/cu dd fans in general, bc the type of woobification and ableism stretches over to the m/cu mattfoggy fandom and other pairings. However, in my experience, it's so much worse with fratt. I don't see this type of portrayal when it comes to pairing Frank with other male characters, it's only when he's paired off with Matt. Examples of this type of ableism is def how fratt fanfic writers love to portray Matt as the helpless blind man that cries and whines about everything and he needs big strong Frank to be there and take care of him despite the fact that he's a grown man who is able to take care of himself. A lot of caretaker fetishes as well since they love to imply that Matt is significantly younger than Frank despite their age gap not being that huge both in the show and the comics (both of these men are in their 40s/50s) and this goes hand in hand with the infantalization. M/cu fratt fans also love to use the terms top and bottom as if they were secondary gender norms bc I've seen too many where Matt is written as the "woman" of the pairing, which is not only homophobic but ableist as well. M/cu dd fans also believe that the whole dynamic that Daredevil and Punisher has an extremely black and white in terms of their morality when it's a lot more gray than that. A lot of Catholic™ Matt Murdock tags used to the point of ooc both in terms of the show and comics which is just overall super annoying to read, especially when making some type of conflict with Frank. It literally feels like I'm reading the current dd run written by Zdarsky which btw is Not Good in terms of how he's writing Matt as a character.

Not only that, m/cu fratt fans literally write about the same fucking thing over and over again. It's either a season 2 rewrite but Frank patches up Matt, throw in some Catholic shit and ooc talk about redemption, and then they fuck. Or it's just porn with no plot. I've also seen horrible takes on the tumblr tag ranging from "Matt and Frank would adopt Peter and hang out with Tony Stank" to "Matt is in love with Frank bc he reminds him of his father/kinda looks like him too bc daddy issues 😍" to someone straight up suggesting that there should be more fics of the REAL LIFE ACTORS being together, and so many more. A lot of them def taking the whole top/bottom thing as if those are personality traits and more posts that infantalize Matt. Not only that, a majority of fratt fans are just gross in general and I don't want to interact with them overall. It's thanks to what the fratt fandom has turned into that I no longer enjoy the pairing and I'm now starting to hate it as a whole. It's no wonder why comic dd fans call it the gay ship for straight people. Looking through the fratt tag anywhere now will give you psychic damage from all the nonsensical garbage there is. If you still enjoy this pairing, then okay, good for you ig. But don't expect me to make more content for it anytime soon and I will not pull back any punches on my honest opinions about it, especially the opinions I have towards certain fans. Sorry for this super long answer, anon, but hopefully I got out all of my gripes with the pairing and how its on par with how I feel about m/cu dd fans overall too.

Okay let me tell you guys the gay shit happening in Sailor Moon world bc genuinely have not encountered such a gay girl friend group since Skam. We had some run of the mill Rei and Usagi Facts of Life banter where they bullied each other not having boyfriends in a distinctly haha please like me instead kind of way and Usagi almost got murdered the first of like twelve times in these episodes bc it got. Dire. But. While she was actively dying she was just thinking about how mean Rei is to her and Rei couldn't stand her screaming worse than any of the other girls and got up and ended it all. And we repeated this but more intense in the next couple of episodes bc the whole friend group got killed off one by one by these sexy moon ladies (named. The DD girls.) Who frankly should have been used before all of the Zoisite and Co. Bc instead of making fake pet shops and cruise ships and shit they were introduced and almost instantly killed all of the sailor scouts. But anyway Rei held out the longest just so she could give Usagi this gay ass speech about how much she loves to fight with her and then she almost died once but held out even longer specifically to save Usagi and did the scene in my icon where she held Usagi's hand and acted like she was going to kiss her for real and then she had some kind of dumb ass throwaway line about how she should have dated the stupid random guy that works for her grandpa and none of the comment section could recognize how things like this are sometimes just saying shit to say shit and are not really what anything is about like this guy is irrelevant but every time there is a man everyone is like. This is the default pairing no matter how much the emphasis in this scene is really about Usagi and Rei but that's a post for another time. Oh also a few episodes before everyone started dying Minako had a batshit episode where she revealed she was in love with a British guy but then she revealed that she had a girlbestfriend back then too and all three of them were a unit before the best friend fell in love with the random British guy too and the two girls fought and cried and made up the entire episode and we never saw the guy once god bless. Anyway now everyone's memories are wiped and Usagi has to meet the whole friend group again and I just know they're holding out Rei for last so we can have some kind of dramatic freak reunion.

Lo and Behold Homoeroticism rant Part Two

If you missed my first part you can go 2 posts back to read it but I just want to add onto my thoughts

The lack of queer characters in TVB shows is nothing new, and on the rare occasion when they remember that LGBTQ+ people exist, it's treated as a joke (ie. queerbaiting the bromance of a character, but no homo bro! or characters defensively insisting that they're straight). We get it, it's target audience is on the conservative side, but it is admittedly tiring to watch sometimes as a queer audience member.

From my previous "essay" you know I've delved into the relationship between the characters Linda Lung and Hung Sheung Sin (the main source of my hyperfixation). I think it's wild how TVB has accidentally created one of THE richest, most intriguing homoerotic dynamics in television history without intending to do so. They're meant to be straight characters, but don't realize how much potential this pairing could have, and how much evidence in canon they've accidentally (or is it intentional??) made. I can't help but think that if this was in an American tv show, it could be such a well made pairing. But of course, even American shows rarely do queer ships well.

What sparked this rant was episode 1228 it's crazy how to fathom that they'd rather have literal incest (Kam Shing On developing a crush on his mother Hung Sheung Sin after a hypnotism session) before portraying healthy queer relationships. They've had Linda accidentally having a crush on Sheung Sin's boyfriend after he saved her from a motorcycle accident (which was actually revealed to be Sheung Sin's dad, which makes it worse). It seems like they'll do everything to dance around the concept of actually having these two women fall for each other before actually making it happen. Though of course, given their track record I wouldn't trust them to do it well and it'd be a joke anyway. It's like how they notoriously queerbait the bromance between Kam Shing On and his best friend Chu Ling Ling, but of course it's no homo. In this episode they also made sure to include a shot of Linda's husband Sung Shui Fai doing the "heroic catch" on Shing On (something Linda/Sheung Sin have done too, mind you); then at the end of the episode Sheung Sin asks her son "Wait, you haven't fallen for Sung Shui Fai, right?" and he defensively reassures her that no matter what, he's only into women. Yes, we get it, that shot was included because haha, gay relationships are suuuch a joke, right?

What's funny is the unintentional inherent homoerotic irony in Sheung Sin hypnotizing her son because she was displeased with his taste in women (which is a whole other rant on why it's problematic), so she hypnotizes him into liking "normal women" (whatever that means) like herself, only to have him fall in love with Linda (after that incest nonsense). The show's reasoning is because Sheung Sin and Linda are very similar, and so after her son fell in love with Sheung Sin, he also fell in love with Linda. What's interesting to me from watching this through a queer lens is that it shows that Sheung Sin is subconsciously in love with Linda. To me, she's trying to impose her "ideal type" onto her son, which is just hilarious to me at how they try so hard to make it not gay, but it in fact inherently is.

It's actually canon and a widely known fact among the characters in the show that Hung Sheung Sin is intensely obsessed with Linda. There are multiple instances of her being so obsessed with Linda that it ruins her entire mood and she spends all her energy on provoking Linda, pushing her buttons, and trying to get a reaction out of her/to piss her off. Linda is obsessed with Sheung Sin too, but to a lesser degree I'd think. Even Sheung Sin's own boyfriend knows that the only thing to motivate his girlfriend is to bring up Linda to her, so that she would be so bothered to be better than her. It's classic homo/psychosexual obsession.

There was something wrong, even if Ozzie wasn’t willing to talk about it. Fizzarolli wasn’t stupid, and he was no stranger to seeing people trying to hide their obvious upset. If he’d seen it before (Cash, Barbie, Blitzo, Mammon, the knife-thrower, demons running the game booths, Barbie and Blitzo’s mom), he’d see it again (Brick, Wally, Verosika, Rock, Chastity, Nikiva, Ozzie).

Maybe it looked a little different on Ozzie than it did on the others. He didn’t drown himself in booze (but maybe that had a lot more to do with how much it took to drown a fourteen-foot-tall demon), and he avoided most things that would make it worse. From what he could tell, Ozzie was the most straight-laced he ever was if he was in a bad mood, or if something had crossed his mind that he didn’t want to deal with. If he wasn’t actively dealing with the problem, he didn’t drink, smoke, or do drugs, he even limited his intake of sex. It was that last one that was the most concerning, actually, because Ozzie never did that, not until he did.

When he spent more time locked in his office alone, that was when the five Fizzarollis began to take note. He hadn’t given them a single excuse or explanation, but after peeling them off of his body that morning, he’d gone to the bathroom. When they had all been waiting for him to return to bed as naked as he’d been when he left, the robots and Fizzarolli were all shocked that he’d left the bathroom, then the room, wearing his robe and a pair of shorts.

“I don’t hear anything,” Lilypad sighed, his head pressed into the door as he closed his glowing purple eyes. Straining to listen for any noise at all, he frowned a little more as he pulled back to look at the others. With both hands plastered against the wood, he leaned back slightly as he shook his head finally, “I don’t know what he’s doing in there, but he’s definitely not jacking it.”

A chorus of ‘oh no’s and soft whines left the other robots, and Fizzarolli chewed the inside of his cheek. He didn’t seem to notice just how hard he had been until he heard a sickening crunch, and he winced at the salty flavor flooding his mouth. All four bots’ heads spun for a second, and he had four pairs of pretty, multi-colored eyes focused on him. There was no reason for his obvious surprise, and he finally sighed, swallowing his pride (and something he didn’t want to think about), hands falling to his hips.

“Which one of you geniuses is going to check the keyhole?” He questioned bitterly, watching with vague amusement as they whirred in thought, Ziggy’s fan clunking a couple of times before it kicked into gear. The three in front of him (Ziggy, Ribbit, Fifi) looked between one another, Fifi going so far as to lean around Ribbit to lock eyes with Ziggy before they paused. Turning to look over their shoulders, except for Fifi, who just turned his head upside down and backward, they shared a look with Lilypad. The remaining RoboFizz met pink, yellow, green, and red eyes before his own shifted up to the doorknob.

Right there, just beneath the golden knob, was a keyhole that any one of them could probably get their arms through, if not their heads. If nothing else, they’d easily be able to peek into the room, and Lilypad’s grin returned. The second he registered it, however, Olli was already raised to the right height, stepping over the line of robots in front of him, and leaned into the keyhole.

Glowing pink eyes were met with something he hadn’t been prepared for, however, and his tail hung limply behind him suddenly. The droop of his shoulders had the robots gasping, Fifi and Ribbit’s hands clapping their cheeks with an audible clap.

“What?” Lily’s robotic voice came out on a soft whimper, and the remaining three echoed him after a second or two. All four robots crowded around Fizzarolli’s feet, their hands slithering up his legs like metal snakes as though that would bring them their answers sooner. The continued silence was wearing on them, and the frown on the jester’s face didn’t help things. His arms arched downwards when the harembots tugged at what would be his elbows, and they catapulted themselves up to the same height as their original.

Next came the shoving, the vying to see, the headbutting, the whining, the croaking from Ribbit, the noise, and it took all Fizzarolli had in him to hiss a loud ‘shh!’ that was quickly repeated by the others. It was almost as if they thought just reiterating what he said would fix the problem.

Whatever had been beyond the door was lost to them, now, and the five of them just about fell forward into the office when Ozzie yanked the door open. He rose a brow at them, some level of displeasure clear on all three faces, and one large hand gripped the top of the door jamb. With his other hand finding his slim hip, he shifted his weight to regard all of them with a look that had meant to be flat. Instead, his eyes looked glassy, and his frown wasn’t firm, just on the edge of wobbly, and the second the five Fizzarollis before him had noticed, they sprung into action.

Ozzie hadn’t known what to expect when they moved faster than any other demon in Hell, and he winced initially, prepared to tell them that he didn’t want to fuck at the moment. However, when he blinked his eyes back open (when had he even closed them?), he found four pairs of arms that could have wrapped him from head to foot taking a limb each and wrapping around it. Lilypad has chosen his right arm, Ribbit on the left, Ziggy and Fifi were wrapped around his legs, and Fizzarolli had taken to becoming a necklace.

“I– What?” Confused, Ozzie stared at the wall at the end of the hallway, even as the bull and goat head already moved to nuzzle the sides of Fizzarolli’s neck and cheeks.

“It’s called a hug, Ozz,” Fizzarolli informed gently, nudging the top of his head under his lover’s chin. The chorus of ‘yeaaaaah’s from his limbs just made him snort in amusement, and the King shook his head with a sigh.

“Okay, why are you hugging me?” Ozzie questioned again, having to tense a little when there was another cry of ‘yeaaaaaaah?’ from the robots. Maybe they’d copied his motions, but that didn’t mean they understood his motivations.

“You looked like you needed it. It’s okay, Babe.” Olli purred, “It’s comforting, and uh… Yeah. You look like you’re gonna cry.” When the robots began their next round of ‘yeah’s, Fizzarolli shot them a glare that quieted them all down on the spot. Purring against Ozzie’s body instead, they tried to throw wide, beautifully colored eyes at them both, as if that would help mitigate Fizzarolli’s frustration with them.

“I…” Ozzie didn’t want to keep going the second he thought his voice was going to crack, and he held his breath for a few seconds. Ozzie had never cried, not if it didn’t have to do with overwhelming pleasure. It was something he refused to afford himself because they didn’t deserve his tears. ‘They,’ though he didn’t always know who was causing it, never deserved his tears.

Right now, though, it felt like his lover and their sentient sex toys were about to deserve them, if only because he couldn’t be expected to hold them back forever. The loud wail of a sob that ripped from his throat was the most unpracticed sound that any of them, himself included, had ever heard him make. Much to his surprise, however, neither Fizzarolli nor the sexbots fled from him like they were on fire. Quite the opposite, actually, as the robots followed Olli’s lead again and wrapped around him a little tighter.

“‘S okay, Babe. You’re okay, we’ve got you.” He whispered into Ozzie’s neck, peppering it with kisses, “Let us take care of you for once, okay?”

All Ozzie could manage was another broken squawk, and Fizzarolli nodded carefully at the acquiescence he took that as.

“Alright, bitches, let’s take Ozzie to bed. I think he could use some TLC.” As long as he didn’t say the ‘L’ word, it wouldn’t add to the King’s poor mood. Hopefully. The robots untangled from Ozzie’s limbs and moved instead to cradle him in their arms as they carried the two demons just up the hallway. At least they were able to take direction, settling over Ozzie and Fizzarolli the second they were laid up in bed.

If Olli wasn’t willing to pester it out of him, neither were they, but that didn’t stop the whining robots from petting, nuzzling, and pouting at Ozzie’s face, neck, and chest as they tried to figure out what to do. They were learning as much as Ozzie was what ‘comfort’ was in that moment, and that meant that Olli had to take it slow. Sometimes it was hard being the only one in the house with some semblance of emotional intelligence, but he’d carry the team when and if he could because he loved Ozzie.

Hell’s gates, he loved the stupid robots, too. They’d become just as much a part of their lives as anything else, and Fizzarolli didn’t mind having to teach them these things, too. It was hard to say at this point who would be easier to accept what he had to offer them, though; Ozzie or the robots that lived to please.
