Hmm. Peppermint for bingo
Tumblr media
the thing with peppermint is there are kind of two peppermints to me?
pre-nccts peppermint as-voiced-by-katie is a being so fascinatingly, hilariously, suffocatingly rancid that i felt the need to take a breather at one point when the streams originally aired and still wince going back to her scenes, an erratic obsessive creep armchair psychologist writer and masochist on a constant dizzying sugar high who happily rejects all adherence to social contract in devotion to an evil god she's actively stalking who wants nothing to do with her in pursuit of an escapist fantasy she's projected onto him. (red candy)
nccts peppermint as-written-by-ryan is a particularly unstable cringe sad wet newly crowned old god in a box all alone with abrasive and obsessive tendencies over shipping, fandom drama and her own opinions about character writing to the detriment of her ability to engage positively with the 'real world' (Relatively Speaking) outside of those lenses, her derealization and her tendency to treat other people as fictional objects to project her desires onto in violation of their boundaries only being worsened by Prism's enabling of that mindset and her possessive and obsessive desire for a tooth-rotting archie-andrews ass romantic fantasy with Crimson, but she's observant and sharp and self-assured enough to stand her ground when she realizes she's being manipulated with the promise of companionship and to not waver in her conviction that Prism is wrong. (green candy)
these arent at all incompatible, in fact they read to me as two parts, almost two perspectives, of one greater whole, but they are pretty noticeably distinct in their focus execution and tone, i think?
she's still a creep, but ryan doesn't always sell it as hard or as strongly as katie did, often leaning on common (and thus usually less shocking and by extension less effective due to not hitting as hard) 'unpredictable viscerally lonely yandere' trope stuff. Or maybe the written medium just dampens its effect- hard to explain what specifically makes katie's pep character voice so Offputting, i cant imagine it's easy trying to translate it into text without losing some of its offensive punch when you lose the element of vocal delivery, im not sure how id do it. Havent gotten to the most potent ncct pep stuff in the reread we've been doing yet, my opinions' subject to change, maybe shes worse than i remember, lol
if peppermint's character premise is summarized and boiled down to the absolute basics as 'creepy and obsessive parasocial fan of the sport' then katie put the emphasis on 'creepy' and 'obsessive' and ryan put the emphasis on 'parasocial fan of the sport' to better use her as a character that reflects the concept of fandom and position her as being on the side of characterization over strict narrative structures and expectations for the nccts' metanarrative thematic purposes, you get what i mean?
marking 'couldve been a great character if handled differently' is admittedly kind of misleading when what i really mean is 'i hope these takes on her character maybe get synthesized a little more going forward now that prism's arc villain era in the nccts is effectively over and the narrative actively problematizes her violative and antisocial behavior more again because shes less interesting to me when its treated as inconsequential in the grand scheme of things as it kind of mostly is after ncct2, and that her loneliness and the roots of how she is and why are explored more.' alas the bingo board is written in past tense. None of this is a criticism really just kinda observations of the disconnect that sometimes comes into play when a character is really Made by their voice actor in a way thats sorta lost in translation to another medium and to the hands of another writer with different goals.
All this being said, i like her! In a show about identity and connection and our responsibilities to ourselves and eachother when living in community with others, a character defined by loneliness, disconnecting from other people and their own reality and sinking deeply enough into themself and their eccentricities and what little they DO find connection through to the point of lacking consideration for others' existence as full, real people, reducing them to picking them apart as though theyre storytelling tools, trying and struggling by navigating the world around her as though its the fiction she loves with no REAL consequences, until she upset someone badly enough to be forced to consider them as a real person with feelings (relative to her as. Also A Fictional Character,) is a really interesting character concept for a metanarrative arc of the show, and her being manipulated by the godly 'author' into being her lackey through a sense of companionship and enabling that perspective on the world by letting her in on the in-universe Cosmic Secret that their world IS a fiction to someone, us, the audience... its pretty fascinating, especially because she only falls for the lie in it for so long. It does matter. It may not be real, but it does matter. And she took us believing in her so close to heart...

thinking about seam and how they play into deltarune’s whole “your choices don’t matter” thing……….an embittered old darkner whose presumably closest acquaintance they personally locked away on the king’s orders after he met “someone” and started talking nonsense. the way they think their life may have had more purpose if they didn’t have to lock jevil up. the way they openly empathise with jevil’s “nonsense talk”. the way they look forward to jevil being beaten despite not thinking it possible, the way they have part of his cell key and know where the other parts are, the way that they seem to have some sense of precognition that some unavoidable event means that nothing they or anyone else does in the present matters. the quote of “darker yet darker” about their worldview being notably from entry 17. their knowledge of the secret bosses, and seeing all of their fights as impossible. their knowledge of the shadow crystals. why they have the shadow mantle. who stole the shadow mantle from them. how they know when you’ve beaten jevil in another save file if you create one from chapter 2 and where to pick up the items he drops. the way they sell odd and ends that they’ve picked up over the years in their seap.

my fav super specific royal family dynamic in fiction
(SORRY FOR TYPOS) The older siblings and parents are these scary and well trained royal members of whatever court they're in and/or experienced warriors and they all are these feared individuals but whenever their youngest child walks into the room they turn into the most golden retrever ass people ever just "so whats your favorite meal? I remembered you like pasta" / "So what do you do in your free time" / "I'm going to an event later (they made this up on the spot as an excuse to spend time with them - and if they say yes they'll scramble to make it happen just so they can sit and talk with their youngest over dinner) I bet people would love it if you joined us!!" and the youngest does not care at all to the point they are trying to avoid it.
The whole fam is so envolved in the youngests life now because after like years they all colectively realized (maybe after an argument or a threat to the youngests life) that they had Fucked Up and had basically been neglecting them for so long and now their all scrambling to get back into the kids life but they haven't realized how much the youngest has changed as a person and just assumed they we're the same as when they were a cheerful little kid. Now all these respected individuals are trying so hard to get their family back together and get their youngest to therapy and they have to face how crappily they treated the kid and how they're not who they used to be.
Bonus if the youngest is now this all powerful warrior (extra points if they could defeat the older and more experienced fighters in the family) or super skilled in smth and only now are the fam finding out about it, and extra extra points if the youngest is a total sunshine character to everyone except for the fam (can be personal to the fam OR it can be that their a people pleaser and then they become exhausted when they get home and just don't keep up apearences anymore)
IF YOU KNOW ANY SERIES WITH STUFF LIKE THIS LEMME KNOW 🙏

Hello, Hi, It's me — The SSO player without a PC as of right now!
I wanted to make a little post in context with GameGuard!
Full disclosure; My PC broke a few weeks ago and I have NOT gotten to play SSO + GameGuard, so keep that in mind.
But even from an outsider POV I've noticed a few things that people don't really seem to realize, so I wanted to write this down! :)
I see a lot of people say (mostly on Twitter) that their game either doesn't work since GameGuard got introduced or that GameGuard is frying their system at high temps.
Something that everyone should keep in mind, is that the GameGuard introduction also lined up with an In-Game Event.
Events in SSO always bring along big crowds of players, which will need more resources out of your system! Depending on what system you own, this could cause higher temperatures, fans going at higher speeds or even crashes.
Also, many players are going through summer right now; Remember to keep your PCs clean and keep laptops away from soft surfaces — This always applies, but especially during the hotter months!
GameGuard is also something new that SSO has implemented — New things can often cause problems, especially if your system isn't updated or some type of compatibility issues arise! This is especially the case with old drivers & older hardware.
If you are running the game on an old system, Star Stable will not be able to accommodate that forever, and that is not their fault. The game already is VERY forgiving with low-end PCs and older drivers!
Just recently, SSO fixed issues that only happened to players with certain Graphics Cards — If you feel like something in SSO just doesn't wanna work for YOU, it could just be compatibility issues with hardware drivers or outdated versions of your system (looking at you, Windows updates)!
It never hurts to let the SSO support know your specific hardware if you contact them with a more techy question! It’ll help them a lot with figuring out a possible reason.
Since the GameGuard launch, SSO has shown nothing but efforts to try and fix all the issues and bugs, even if they only related to a small part of the player base. Most that relate to the game already have been fixed! Give it time if something doesn’t quite work and contact them ♥
TL;DR — GameGuard is new and opinions are mixed, but if your game or PC struggles it could be MANY other reasons too! GameGuard is not the best Anti-Cheat, but it's not malicious and it's only a temporary solution. Star Stable isn't out to break your PC on purpose.

A welcome diversion from endless flax spinning. A 2 minute rolag from scraps with very little thought given for the end result, spun and chain plied. It's blocking now and looks a lot less overplied, which im glad for.

Bomb! Them! How many times and ways do I have to say it? Don’t shoot at them. Don’t lead them into your base. Don’t talk to them. Just bomb them! Lay mines along their path! Bring the rocks down on their heads! Gas them with grenades until they can’t breathe! Then take their armour, take their ship (I just remembered. They don’t have a ship. How were they supposed to get back?) and kill their people when they invite you inside.

I grew up with plenty of media with puppets. I LOVE puppets. So why the fuck does even a still image of a living red mop and associates (friends??) Leave me feeling like:
Tumblr media
I have never seen DHMIS and I don't believe I am physically able to. I could take on playing FNAF in VR better than watching 8 minutes of those puppets moving.

Things I wish I had read in "beginner" sewing tutorials/people had told me before I started getting into sewing
You have to hem *everything* eventually. Hemming isn't optional. (If you don't hem your cloth, it will start to fray. There are exceptions to this, like felt, but most cloth will.)
The type of cloth you choose for your project matters very much. Your clothing won't "fall right" if it's not the kind of stretchy/heavy/stiff as the one the tutorial assumes you will use.
Some types of cloth are very chill about fraying, some are very much not. Linen doesn't really give a fuck as long as you don't, like, throw it into the washing machine unhemmed (see below), whereas brocade yearns for entropy so, so much.
On that note: if you get new cloth: 1. hem its borders (or use a ripple stitch) 2. throw it in the washing machine on the setting that you plan to wash it going forward 3. iron it. You'll regret it, if you don't do it. If you don't hem, it'll thread. If you don't wash beforehand, the finished piece might warp in the first wash. If you don't iron it, it won't be nice and flat and all of your measuring and sewing will be off.
Sewing's first virtue is diligence, followed closely by patience. Measure three times before cutting. Check the symmetry every once in a while. If you can't concentrate anymore, stop. Yes, even if you're almost done.
The order in which you sew your garment's parts matters very much. Stick to the plan, but think ahead.
You'll probably be fine if you sew something on wrong - you can undo it with a seam ripper (get a seam ripper, they're cheap!)
You can use chalk to draw and write on the cloth.
Pick something made out of rectangles for your first project.
I recommend making something out of linen as a beginner project. It's nearly indestructible, barely threads and folds very neatly.
Collars are going to suck.
The sewing machine can't hurt you (probably). There is a guard for a reason and while the needle is very scary at first, if you do it right, your hands will be away from it at least 5 cm at any given time. Also the spoils of learning machine sewing are not to be underestimated. You will be SO fast.
I believe that's all - feel free to add unto it.
