Some World-Building

Just some world-building for all the crossovers I have in the Pokemon world.

I would put this into paragraph form, but it just became weird and stilted every time I did. So I'll just list them out in bullet points.

Pokemon Trainers and Licences

The legal age for becoming a Pokemon Trainer in Kalos is 16. This means people can only get their trainer's license, catch their own Pokemon, and participate in the gym challenge and contest when they're that age.

People younger than 16 can carry Pokemon with them, but only if they are 1.) registered under their legal guardian's trainer ID, or 2.) a service Pokemon (like guide dogs and the like)

When a person becomes of age, they can have any Pokemon their legal guardians catch transferred to their trainer account.

Trainer licenses are usually registered by the regional professor, but the trainer-to-be doesn't have to visit the professor themselves.

Trainer licenses are usually given alongside a few Pokeballs and potions to start the journey for free.

However, parents can pay the professor to give a bigger starter kit for their trainers-to-be. This package includes a 'starter' Pokemon (typically one of the grass/fire/water trio of the region), and a Pokedex alongside the usual new trainer package.

Schools and Education

School is mandatory until the student becomes 16. At which point they can decide to continue pursuing an education or simply stop.

Most people don't continue their education past that point unless their dream job requires them to have more knowledge on the topic (Doctors, Researchers, Engineers, etc.)

There are two major types of schools. Generalized and Specialized.

Generalized schools are like normal schools in the real world, with a mixture of subjects taught to give the student a well-rounded education so they have enough basis to pursue whatever they want.

Specialized schools have one main focus subject taught to all students with only minor focuses on other subjects unrelated to the topic (Trainers, Coordinators, Researchers, etc.)

Typically if you already have a certain goal in life you pick a Specialized school. Otherwise, you go to a general one.

General schools may have clubs and electives similar to what is taught in specialized schools, but that is not guaranteed and is also of a lower quality than lessons in specialized schools.

Francois Dupont is a Private Generalized School

With how many people of high status attend the school it only makes sense that it should be a Private school.

It is considered one of the best Generalized schools in all of Kalos.

Other Misc. World-Building

The game map of Kalos does not show all the towns and cities in the region. It only lists the most prominent ones.

Similarly, Lumiose city is more expansive in this than it is in the game. It does keep the Pokeball shape, however.

More Pokemon appear in the Kalos dex to account for the existence of Gen 7 and 8 Pokemon

This AU and world were created before Gen 9 came out.

Real-world fruits and vegetables can be found alongside Pokemon berries.

The government is different from the Pokemon league. Mainly the government concerns itself with the problems and goals of the people while the Pokemon league does the same but for Pokemon.

No superheroes (aside from the Miraculous team replacement) exist anywhere in this world. Aside from in fiction of course.

All phones in Kalos have been replaced with the Holo-Caster (The communication device used in X and Y). It still has the same hologram technology but is upgraded with the technologies of modern phones.

Additionally, I’ve finally given in and bought myself Pokemon Scarlet. I’m three Arenas, one Titan and one Base in so far. It’s been…an experience.

First of all, I went with Sprigatito as my starter. He who shall be nicknamed ‘Merlin’. I quickly added a few temporary members to progress enough to get access to the larger map, and the areas for the Pokémon I actually want for my team this time. My temporary team consisted of:

Merlin the Sprigatito

Apollo the Gastly

Misty the Psyduck

Sire the Wooper

Koi Koi the Magikarp

Fenyx the Fledgling

I obviously stuck with more familiar Pokémon as I knew what I would get out of them. While I did catch everything there was to find in the area as soon as I got access to Pokeballs, the designs of the new Pokemon weren’t interesting enough to stick them on my team. I do plan on switching a few of them in later on but chances are, they still won’t stay on and I’ll just do it for the Dex.

I did some research on which Pokémon were available in the game that I was considering for my team. I usually tend towards Fire and Dragon types. I know in the competitive scene most of my teams would be easily beaten but they can usually go against the trainer AI no problem and that’s enough for me. I was planning on Garchomp, Salamence or Haxorus as my main fighter. I settled on Garchomp and maybe Salamence if I come across a Bagon.

Next I went exploring on the off chance I find the Garchomp I was looking for and whatever else of my preferred partners Id run into. I had a rough idea of where to find my Gible so I made my way to the western region. And I quickly ran into a group of Gible and even a Gabite under a rocky cliff. I challenged the first one I saw and quickly saw I was obviously underleveled for her at 27. But I was stubborn and just kept chucking balls at her and she stayed in the third one. So I got my first actual teammate.

Aster the Garchomp

As luck would have it, not long after I ran into a Riolu soon after and he too became part of the main team. Or rather he was being an aggressive little shit and ran into me. But eh.

Rascal the Riolu joined the team.

And my luck didn’t end there. I met one of the apparently more rarer spawns of the area. An Eevee. And that little girl was ridiculously stubborn. Even on low health & paralyzed, she refused for 15 balls and I was beginning to run low. She finally stayed when I chucked a luxury ball at her. Immediately. She remained nameless for now until I decide what I’m going to evolve her into.

??? the Eevee joined.

Soon after I decided to explore the opposite side of the main town and entered the eastern region. Running around I found a thunderstone which gave me an idea for my next target. A Pokémon that I’ve seen mentioned a lot of times in regards to weaknesses and that I’ve never used in a run but have wanted to try for a while now. It starts as a cute little Tynamo. I turned around after checking it’s availability in Scarlet and the spawn area. But that left me with two hurdles. I can’t swim (yet) and so far half my team refuses to listen and the other half is way to weak. So my next stop would be the arenas to get my team into fighting shape and challenge my first titan. A giant stork that likes throwing boulders.

I made quick work of the Cortondo Bug Type Gym and the Open Sky Titan. A quick trip to the Artazon Gym gave similar results. I did a quick check of the Team Star base there but turned around again. They can wait a bit more but will be my next stop.

I jumped into the southern ocean for my Tynamo. I named the little guy after the first person I remembered having a connection to one.

Welcome to the team, Emmet the Tynamo.

With that I had 4/6 Pokémon down. And for once I decided to take a step back and consider my type coverings. I knew what moves Garchomp and Lucario would get later.

Earthquake, Dragon Claw, Fire Fang and Swords Dance/(maybe I’ll leave Sand Attack)

Aura Sphere, Shadow Ball, Nasty Plot and Flash Cannon.

For Elektross I checked out his possible moves. I needed four more types to completely cover all my offenses. I decided on

Thunder Punch, Drain Punch, Coil and Dragon Tail.

For Eevee I decided to do the opposite. I disregard which evolution would for best and went with my favorite. Glaceon with the moves

Ice Beam, Tera Blast, Freeze-Dry and Water Pulse.

And while I was at it, I decided if one specific Pokémon was available, considered the amount of work and time I’d have to invest into it and settled on Milotic. For it I decided on a little quicker route. I transferred over two of my Milotic from Sword over to Scarlet, and let them have their fun during a picnic. I was aiming for a female Feebas and that regrettably took another 10 eggs to happen. But this was already time consuming and I didn’t care. I had already prepared my plan for this little girl to become a Milotic without another trainer to help out and that would also take time so Feebas can train alongside the rest for now. Evolution can wait.

Since she’ll later make a trip to Sinnoh, I thought naming her Coronet was fitting.

That left me with one empty spot.

It has purple leaves on its lower body that resemble a skirt, and blue and purple leaves on its head that resemble a bob-cut hairstyle. It has tired-looking purple eyes, and it is sitting down with its legs crossed somewhat so that it can pluck at its leg fibers like a dulcimer, an instrument typically found in Bluegrass music. Green text outlined in pink to the right of the image reads "Blossimer".

Oddish (Cantessian regional variant) - Weed Pokemon - grass/fairy Originally brought over by Kantonian immigrants, over time it has lost some of its toxic qualities to better fit in with the native grasses. / They seem to sparkle in the moonlight from the pollen surrounding their foliage. When they notice a full moon overhead, they sit and stare at it for hours on end.

Gloom (Cantessian regional variant) - Bluegrass Pokemon - grass/fairy This Cantessian variant has a neutral or pleasant smell, and is instead known to hum to communicate with others. They are particularly fond of musical instruments. / It enjoys sitting in the moonlight and humming to itself. The reasons behind its connection to the moon are a mystery.

Blossimer - Dulcimer Pokemon - grass/fairy When initially trying to evolve a Cantessian Gloom, its Trainer was surprised to find that neither a Leaf Stone nor a Sun Stone would work. Whatever Blossimer’s connection to the moon may be is a mystery. / This Pokemon plucks on the fibers on its legs to play music, both for its own entertainment and to communicate with others. Bluegrass musicians love this Pokemon and compare its sounds to that of a dulcimer, though it seems more likely to play closer to a full moon.

And here we are, guys, the reason I started the Cantessy project in the first place. I'd been getting inspiration for an Oddish variant based on bluegrass (the plant) for some years, possibly even before regional variants were an official thing. Once I was getting further inspiration to make my own region due to watching Lockstin's Kaskade videos, I decided making a fan-region based on places around where I live would give a bluegrass (plant) Oddish a fitting home. Originally I was going to make these guys pure grass, but once I decided to put in lunar connections in the dex entries I figured adding fairy-type would be a good idea. Yes, even though I already had Hedeomadon. Look, grass/fairy is just a good combo okay XD

Anyway, as you can see with the regional exclusive evolution, which is obtained by giving Gloom a Moon Stone, I took the line from just being themed around the bluegrass plant and incorporated elements of the musical genre that shares its name. Specifically, Blossimer's leg fibers are inspired by the dulcimer. And let me just say, be glad I went with this look for Blossimer. Their draft look had their whole body be the dulcimer, and it um...it did not look good, hehe. Besides, it was based on just the look of dulcimers themselves without me knowing how dulcimers were played, which is usually with the instrument laying in the musician's lap as they're seated. I like that seated musician look better even without taking all that into account, anyway. And if you're wondering why there's so much mention of the moon in these dex entries and the evo method, even taking into account Kantonian Oddish's minor moon connections alongside that, well...there's that classic Bluegrass song "Blue Moon of Kentucky"...

My shiny Pokemon

I’ve been pretty lucky with regard to shiny pokemon throughout my time playing the games. I suppose if you play for long enough, your going to encounter some shines eventually. I should mention that all of these pokemon were full-odds encounters. I don’t enjoy shiny-hunting. I don’t have the patience, and I really enjoy the surprise of finding a random shiny while on your adventure. Looking through my old games, I found plenty of hacked shiny pokemon, but these are my legit finds.  Shiny Pidgeot (encountered ~2005) I found this guy as a pidgey in Pokemon Leaf Green, on Three Island. I’m pretty sure this was my first shiny pokemon. I don’t have any fun stories of me thinking I’d found a glitch or anything like that. I knew what I’d found, and I made sure to catch it. 

Shiny Swellow (encountered ~2005) Back in the day, Pokemon Sapphire was my go-to replay game. On one of these playthroughs, I though it’d be really cool to name my character ‘?’, thinking that it’d be fun to look back on my pokemon and see that their original trainer wasn’t known. I then immediately encountered a taillow, right outside Petalburg. I immediately regretted my naming choice. 

Shiny Tropius and Shiny Sentret (encountered ~ 2006)

I’m grouping these together because I found them both in my first playthrough of Pokemon Colosseum. I found Sentret first, and then Tropius later on in the game. Now these are especially interesting, because due to a glitch, it’s extremely hard to find shiny pokemon in those games. From what I understand, the pokemon’s ID values are re-rolled when captured in those games, so if you find a shiny pokemon and capture it, it’ll likely turn into a regular pokemon once captured (although regular pokemon may also transition into shiny mons).  Now my best theory is that this glitch doesn’t exist in the PAL region versions of the game, because I found two shinies in my playthrough, both were shiny before I caught them, and retained their shiny status afterwards. That’s already stupid-unlikely, but to make it worse, I KNOCKED OUT THE TROPIUS! In Colosseum, if you knock out a shadow pokemon, there’s a chance to find it and capture it again later, and when I rebattled the tropius, it was still shiny! I honestly thought these must be scripted to be permanently shiny, like the red gyarados, and was pretty confused when I replayed the game for the first time. To this day, that tropius is my luckies find ever in a pokemon game. 

Extra story: back in the gen V days, my tropius used to be picked up by hack-detectors, because its IVs were good enough for the software to think I caught it through RNG abuse (12,29,31,25,23,2). Colour me chuffed :)

Shiny Escavalier (encountered 2013)

I found this fabulous specimen on Route 6 of my playthrough of Pokemon White, while looking for a Deerling. I love this boi, even though it wasn’t really suitable to use in my playthrough. 

Shiny Electrike (Encountered 2014)

Now this guy.... I honestly dont remember it at all. It’s seemingly legit, it came from Sapphire, and I remember using the name Marina, but yeah I suppose this one didn’t make much of an impression. I’m glad I have it though. It’s very pretty. 

Shiny Voltorb (encountered 2018)

I found this one in a playthrough of a hacked Pokemon Leaf Green on my phone. A lot of the wild pokemon were altered, but somehow I found this guy at his legal level and location, right outside the power plant. I named him Great Ball. 

Shiny Chatot (encountered 2018)

My most recent shiny encounter, and one of my favorites. This was found in a difficulty hack of Pokemon Alpha Sapphire. I actually was using a chatot on my team at the time, and was grinding in the grass to evolve my nincada for the dex. I had one space free in my party, and nincada was at level 19. Then I found a shiny version of one of my favorite pokemon. I caught it, of course, and then my nincada evolved with the experience. I laughed aloud when i realized my new chatot had taken up the last spot in my party, depriving me from attaining a shedinja. What a jerk, I love him.

Gold Version Joy Run

Something that I wanted to do. Just like Yellow version, I will not restrict myself whatsoever. Which means... bring on the shenanigans.

Also, very important for me! This is the VERY FIRST TIME I actually do a full Gold version run with all the glitches at my disposal! So this is a new experience!

Let’s dance.

Right off the bat, a little f*ckery. Hey there, Silver boy. My croc is bigger than yours. ... What? Temporarily named as “Leviathan” since... well, let’s just say that the early Korean version of a certain scripture translated “Leviathan” as an alligator/crocodile. ... Gators don’t breathe flames from the mouth.

Critical Pokemon captured! Huhuhahahaha! Oh, Hoppip gets THREE moves at level 5, and one of them is Splash?! Ohohoho!

Once again, Silver boy, my croc is bigger than yours.

Splash in the third slot, eh?

Sorcery! Huhuhahahaha! Nickname: Apocalypse.

Here’s a little... side-product. ... Now that is a hell of a Rattata. No Rattata in existence can possibly have almost 400 HP at level 100, let alone level 69.

Or have that much Def, Sp. Atk, and Sp. Def. ... Or that low of an Atk. ... Dude. This guy can take hits and nothing else.

Turns out, you don’t even need a Graveler to whip Whitney’s ass. Geodude is fine. “Whits Bane”. As in, “Whitney’s Bane”. ... This was its literally only purpose.

So... this guy here... was a Quilava. Its data got corrupted during the demon magic bullsh*t, and it became an unstable Rattata. Which, when “stabilized”, became a level 1 Jigglypuff with Pokerus. ... Yep. I just force-spawned Pokerus. Because why not.

They are... parasites. Tiny little life forms stuck on the Pokemon. ... That’s nasty, dude.

The sorcery continues! Rock Smash in 3rd slot. Nickname: Leviathan. The true one. Behold the leviathan, monster of the sea! Its strong scales are its pride!

... Apparently this run’s ID gives me Smog and Fire Spin. Because those two moves were on all five Pokemon that I used this glitch to hatch. ... Which means this Lugia here is 2/5.

Nidorino! ... A Normal type Nidorino. ... ?????

“You could never catch a legendary Pokemon anyway.” ... You were literally just whipped by two of them. You blind f*ck.

Turns out, Morty is insanely easy if you... you know. Mewtwo doesn’t get Psychic until level 66, but... it gets Confusion at level 1.

Chuck’s Poliwrath was blasted so hard, its sprite died. RIP. Also proof that this was the result of shenanigans. Not only do I have a Lugia that’s level 24 (when the lowest you can get is 40 in Silver), but... Aeroblast. Aeroblast is only available in Silver version, since Lugia gets it at level 1, and then learns a new move every 11x level (11, 22, 33, 44, etc). So at level 40, it has Aeroblast, Safeguard, Gust, and Recover. In the wild, a level 44 one would’ve erased Aeroblast for Hydro Pump. So in Gold version, the level 70 Lugia does not have Aeroblast. In Crystal, the level... 60? Lugia does not have Aeroblast. And there is no such thing as a move re-learner in GSC. ... Similarly, Gold is the only version where you can get Sacred Fire. ... Which means, poor Crystal version. Doesn’t get sh*t.

Speaking of Sacred Fire... Shenanigans! Whirlpool in the 3rd slot. Nickname: Phoenix. 3/5.

Somehow, this doesn’t feel fair. Lance in the Pokemon League. Getting one-shotted. Hmm...

Well, that’s the Pokemon League down. EASY! But this time, I’m going all the way. Kanto!

Hey, this is the guy that kills your game. Talk to that thing and then open the Coin Case and then your game gets f*cked. Something like that.

Hmm... Kanto, huh? Then I get access to Grimer, and therefore Acid Armor... Hmm...

Huhuhuhahaha! Acid Armor in 3rd slot. Nickname: Doomguard. Apparently you can’t use numbers, so... I couldn’t name it as “135″. Boo. Ehn. It’s not shiny, so... 4/5.

“This Gym is great! Only girls are allowed here!” ... Yeah, maybe that line is better deleted in HGSS. ... The HGSS line makes no damn sense. Just deleting this guy would’ve been better.

... Were you... having a date right in front of someone else’s house? ... What is wrong with you?

Oh you poor, sad little man. Living in a cave, since Cinnabar Island burned down. Volcano eruption. Well, at least in HGSS, you modified the sh*t out of the cave floor in Seafoam Islands. In here, you’re literally just a dude sitting in a cave all by yourself.

Janine. You sad f*ck. What is this? Level 36?! The weakest Kanto leader by far. Even weaker than a Johto leader. That’s just... pitiful.

Oh, I remember this. The trainer house? Oh, I spent a lot of time here back in actual Gold version, trying to get Metronome to get Transform so I could Transform into the Smeargle with Sketch, so that the Mewtwo would get Sacred Fire. And I succeeded... twice, since I accidentally deleted Thunderbolt, so I had to do this glitch again, but for Thunderbolt.

Johto Leaders must be pretty pathetic because I beat them? You f*ck. Here you are, sitting all by yourself in a Gym clearly made of Lego, and you’re calling the Johto Leaders pathetic?

Well, now that I annihilated this f*ck with Mewtwo (for a specific reason), I now have access to Mt. Silver, and thus, my 5th and last addition to my team. Oh, SNEASEL!!!

Final shenanigans. Beat Up in 3rd slot. Nickname: Temporus. 5/5. It ain’t a Dragon, but hey. Time thingy. And so my team is ready. Level 59 Mew, 56 Mewtwo, 55 Lugia, 55 Ho-oh, 55 Celebi. Time to take on Red with his level 70+ team.

Oh yeah. GSC Mt. Silver requires Flash. ... Flash is for sissies?!

... Wow. Can’t see sh*t except for an item that’s... ... How would you even see that?!

So... Flash is necessary. Cool. Adding in a level 5 Togepi with Flash. The team is ready.

Mt. Silver. So... here is a “hidden” path that leads to a cave with literally nothing in it. ... Like, what the f*ck was the point of this?

And another hidden path to another hidden cave with literally nothing in it. ... WHY?! Were there supposed to be some cool hidden sh*t here that got canned at the last moment?!

... So, that’s how pitiful Pikachu is. Level 81, got outrun by a level 59 Mew (base 90 vs. base 100), and one-shotted by Earthquake. ... See, this is why I can the Pikachu as soon as possible in Yellow version for a Mew. Pikachu ain’t my starter. MEW is my starter!

And ANNIHILATED! You poor sap. I have a bunch of Pokemon 20 levels lower, and yet... EASY. Why? Because Legendaries have much higher stats than other Pokemon. And in RGBY GSC, every stat gets “EVed”. ... PKRS also helps out greatly. In short, all my Pokemon are better by far. ... Which is why I restrict myself to non-Legendaries only in other normal runs. It just ain’t fair otherwise.

Now that I finished the game, I guess I’ll go to the one thing I always found super cool and very f*cking meaningless. Edit the time to be Monday, and make a beeline for Mt. Moon!

... F*ck. I forgot about this encounter. Way to ruin it, dude. It’s a huge step down from facing Red to facing you. Boo. ... Also, now you f*cking notice? You weak pathetic f*ck. Dude, you don’t need love to raise Pokemon. You’ve been using violence, and you’ve been mislead that you need love and affection. ... Dude, you need knowledge. Violence can only come properly afterwards. ... This is a reference to the elder’s questions in Crystal and HGSS Dragon’s Den. “What do you need to raise Pokemon? Love, violence, or knowledge?”

The Clefairy dance in Mt. Moon Square! Only on Mondays at night. This is still in HGSS, I think. The Clefairy dance and... leaves you a Moon Stone before running off, which means the Moon Stone is the only evolution stone you can get infinite amount of times. The others, you get like... two. Fire/Water/Leaf/Thunder Stones require you to be in Kanto for some f*cked up reason!

Now then, Gold version joy run is over. Lots of shenanigans happened. And here is my final team:

Caught Snorlax with a duplicated Master Ball, removed the Leftovers, duplicated that 5 times so all 5 of my Pokemon can have one. Constant HP regeneration for Pokemon with PKRS boosted stat experience, and with base HP stats of 100, 100, 106, 106, 106? That’s pretty freaking cheap, man.

Psychic: Level 40, but... who has the time for that? Duplicated TM 29: Psychic 4 times, so... yay. Shadow Ball: TM 30, again duplicated. Earthquake: TM 26, duplicated. Ice Punch, TM 33. Purchased in Goldenrod! Yay for not having to use the duplication glitch!

... And PP maxed for the PP 10 or lower moves using the duplicated PP Ups.

I ain’t waiting for level 66 for Mewtwo to get Psychic. Duplicated TM!

- my zubat dying immediately after i was done grinding it

Diglett (Cantessian regional variant) - Mole Pokemon - ground/grass The regional sprouts make Diglett resemble a growing potato. This has led to some very irate potato farmers digging up a Diglett by mistake on multiple occasions. / Cantessy’s already very fertile soil has led to Diglett growing sprouts on its own body. Unlike its Kantonian and Alolan counterparts, it sometimes emerges fully from its hole to have more of a look around where it has surfaced.

Dugowt - Groundhog Pokemon - ground/grass It has almost entirely removed itself from underground life, only returning underground to its burrow for rest. It carefully cultivates its favorite vegetables near its burrow. / It often gets into conflict with farmers due to territorial disputes. To help ease these conflicts, farmers will offer it some of their land and a small share of their crops that they like.

More Cantessy Fakemon, and continuing the trend of the past few ones we have another regional variant! I've always wanted an opportunity to show off my headcanon for what Diglett looks like undergrown, and now I get to partially display that. Lil shovel feeties, like Drilbur! Or, y'know, like regular moles I guess XD And because the dex mentions them, the flowers on its head are indeed based on the potato flower! They're really cute lil flowers, and you never think of them being part of a plant that grows the delicious potato underneath :D

And of course, I have to give Diglett a new regional evolution. Since Diglett's already partially coming out of their hole, I decided to have the evolution just go ahead and exit it entirely. Dugowt is based more on a groundhog than a mole, specifically inspired by the groundhogs that like to make their homes in the areas surrounding my house. Hell, my neighbor had a groundhog living under one of her bushes just recently! I named them Soup, because...well, let's just say my neighbor's surname is the same as a popular brand of canned soup XD And of course, more potato flowers. Why potatoes? ...Idk, just because? Diglett already kinda looked like a potato to some extent, hehe.

Like Sableye and Malevoleye, Diglett and Dugowt are regional exclusive, and ironically given the farm references in its dex entries it's a Circuit exclusive. Though much like its Plow counterpart, it's also going to show up on some important Trainers' teams, especially the Gym Leader we'll be getting to soon! :D
