Dipper's got a little more... bite in some of the early drafts of the AU, I've been seriously tempted to lean that way again as I've grown to better understand what kind of story I want to tell with him.

Thoughts bellow the cut...

He skipped a grade, he's got the best grades in his class, he's "the gifted kid who's going places". Finding out that magic is real is the ultimate wish fulfillment of this nerdy little kid and the proof for that little inside voice of his that he's not just smart, he's special.

He's a good kid, but one who's been told how smart and mature he is one too many times. Unlike Norman, he hasn't spent his entire life being told that he's wrong for being different; Dipper's got the confidence to demand answers when with faced with something he doesn't understand.

There's probably not a world where Dipper starts bullying Norman, Norman's too good at keeping his head down and would never confront Dipper. But Norman has something Dipper needs and there are the ingredients for a very unhealthy friendship, if Dipper doesn't lean to see Norman as an equal and Norman doesn't learn to stand up for himself.

Of course, that's what the rest of the story is for.

I get the sense that Phil just likes to make “”weird”” stuff and has somewhat dialed back his weirdness due to his popularity and age. But I would love to see what an unfiltered 30 year old phil Lester video would look like. What stories does he want to tell? How does he want to tell those stories?

honestly i think phil is really good at playing out whatever his brain is thinking at the time. i think a lot of people struggle with ideas because they'll be seen as too 'weird' or 'strange' or even 'impossible', and what's neat about phil is he either doesn't have those boxes, or he's able to push through them in pursuit of creating the thing to its full potential. people describe him as creative, which he is, but i think it leaves out some of his best attributes as a creator. he's inventive--remember the countless trends and challenges that came from him that have swept the internet? he's fearless--and this doesnt mean that he's not afraid of anything (for phil its probably the opposite actually) but he does things despite the fear, regardless of the unknown. he's a relentless and passionate creator who likes to make things and values seeing them through to the end. but he's not naive either--he and dan have talked about each other being their harshest critics. it's not just that he's an ideas guy, he's a good ideas guy who knows how to make something flourish.

i don't think current phil is sitting in a box waiting for his chance to break free of his popularity. he could've stopped years ago, similar to dan, if he didn't want this. but he likes doing it. he gets to have his choice on which of his ideas turn into projects, without having the stress of Needing a brilliant idea and execution every week. right now i think a lot of his energy is focused on the gaming channel. as he's expressed to us a few times, it was him who really wanted it back, and he's been ready for a long time. dan's even admitted that he's been enjoying it, and i think a lot of that comes down to phil's creative directing. he loves the gaming channel and is so thrilled it's back--his own content has taken a step back in terms of upload regularity, and i genuinely don't think he could be happier about it.

i would love a big phil project, but i honestly don't see him doing a tour of his own unless he brings dan with him, and then why not have it be something they can do together? does that make sense? that seems to be his thought process about things. it's why i've suggested taskmaster cause it's a local thing that wouldn't keep him from home for a long while, but he does get to flex his creativity, intelligence, and humour.

i'm looking forward to anything phil does. his current project seems to be making dan happy and they're both having a lot of fun doing that

That or hes completely disgusted by it. He is a real person not some character to be fantasised about. Sam and Tucker tease him about it but totally agree that it’s super weird and gross. From what I’ve seen, it seems like at DC fans fall into a few specific categories:

The Purist: keeps up to date on every run they possibly can, has read even the obscure storylines, has extremely strong opinions on adaptions, and will fucking kill you if you like WFA or whatever. The sworn enemy of the Fanfic Enjoyer, and also often has beef with other categories on the list, but not always.

The Fanfic Enjoyer: has never read a single comic and may or may not have any interest in changing that. Their favorite is usually whoever is currently Tumblr’s Special Little Boy. All of their knowledge comes from fanfiction based on other fanfiction and the occasional wiki page.

The Animation Observer: they’ve never read a comic, but they watch all the animated stuff. They avoid the live action like the plague. If they do watch live action, they’re very selective about it, but it’s worth it because their recommendations all slap. They may or may not have an interest in the comics, but for now cartoons are enough.

The Neutral Third Party: the backbone of the fandom tbh, they read comics but don’t really have an opinion on what the “right” way to enjoy DC is. They’re probably here mainly for the characters and as such don’t see a point in arguing canon details. Usually neutral or even friendly to the Fanfic Enjoyer in a way that others sometimes aren’t.

The Webtoon Reader: they read all the webtoon content but not much or even nothing else, so they can’t really be considered the Fanfic Enjoyer because they have, technically, read more than one comic but their knowledge is extremely limited and often not accepted by the Purists. They either don’t have the opportunity to read the actual comics or just straight up aren’t interested.

The Danny Phantom Fan: a subtype of the Fanfic Enjoyer, they read one too many crossover fanfictions and are now obsessed with Jason Todd.

AU where Danny’s clones keep coming out as girls and Vlad is Pissed like wtf is happening. He chocks it up to them being extremely unstable, and there probably being multiple faults in his process.

He keeps trying, and then Dani comes out of his experiments and even though she’s mostly stable he immediately renounces her. His heart’s set on having a son like Danny and he wants nothing else

Which is News to Vlad. Aside from being very embarrassed that his information gathering about the Fentons has apparently been dogshit, he’s now lost all interest in Danny being his son.

That being said... Here's a new idea I'd like to share cause I have nothing better to do with it besides trying to draw it and I thought, hey, this can fit in this au possibly.

Danny being afraid of Professor Pyg not just because of the Dollotrons he makes but he gets flashbacks to his own vivisection whenever he's near the guy. Professor Pyg literally lobotomized his victims and sew doll masks to create his Dollotrons, his idea of perfection. The worst part about dollotrons is that they're alive.

I see Dollotrons as souls stuck in living tombs, here. The only way to free them is if one destroys the vessels to allow the souls to finally be at peace rather then suffer inside their former bodies, constantly wailing for help as they watch on, never to be in control again. What made those bodies them have been erased with the use of chemicals and surgery. Their mind and body is not theirs anymore. They're Professor Pyg's now.

For ghosts/halfas/liminal's to see such a thing will cause such a visceral reaction of wrongness emanating in their cores. Cause by all means, the Dollotrons should be dead with such a disconnect the body and mind has with the soul. But nope. These Dollotrons will be considered abominations. (I imagine Danny having a similar reaction to Garnet from SU when she saw the gem shard fusions in a way cause like, in some ways, the dollotrons are most like Halfas like him. But more twisted)

Danny makes sure to keep his interactions with Pyg to a minimum. Everyone notices and doesn't blame him. Even the Joker is put off by Pyg (in Arkham Knight). Joker!
