i’ve been wanting to share this since the weekend but it’s too long and i needed more time. lol. none of this is new but this can be taken as some convincing arguments about the cp and why it could be real. allegedly from non-fans who casually observes the fandom and what we are up to.

First of all, I think it is true for the following reasons:

1. Timeline. Since filming in 2018, various fake materials have emerged one after another. We don’t care whether the fake material is genuine or not, but I think the hammer can be connected, which is good. The false information about the incident came out, and then things fell into place, which I think is amazing It’s a strange thing, and some things that happened in 18 and 19 years have now been hammered. Of course you can call it a coincidence if you like.

*** This pertains to the 49 fakes that turned out to mostly be true. Also the fake contributions of their conversations & incidents on set that we all thought weren’t true until the unofficial videos came out. If this was a boy-girl pairing, a single unverified rumor will blow up but with bjyx you have tons and some people are still meh. Lol.

2. Same Style. The two of them share too many styles. First of all, the clothes, from big brands to small ones. Various brands, from clothes to pants to shoes to accessories, there are countless similar styles. The second time was the shooting scene between the staff and some of the staff who had worked together overlapped. Yes, it can be seen from the post-production period that there is also an advertisement for both of them. It was shot in the same place, which is also very magical, in the entertainment industry. It's such a big deal. Do you think there's such a thing as matching clothes, teams and locations? There must be, but I don’t dare to say whether it happens as often as the two of them do. So it's been a minute (like 2 years or so) since I played a normal RPG for the blog, but I really enjoy talking about my experience with boss fights or particularly interesting encounters, be the experience good or bad tbh.

For this I guess I'll just say it... was not vital that it was a good encounter in my book?

I came here at like level 5 I think? I have not stopped to grind at any point, but thus far combat has been extremely straight forward.

Elemental weaknesses exist, but aren't too important yet- mostly being a decision of "Attack twice to kill, or attack once for some CP to kill with a weakness". But I have very few CP moves on hand to play with just yet so that makes sense, assuming this is the type of RPG to even lean in on the combat to begin with lol

The boss was basically just a slightly tougher version of some of the fat ghosts you can fight. Mostly.

Just "big melee hit for 100~ health" "Sometimes spawn a speech bubble" "Sometimes put you to sleep for a turn~"

I basically just spent all my CP on hits that seemed to do more than default attacking (he has no weakness), 'ate' a bunch of luck to keep topped off, and won.

I was never in any danger, he never broke out any surprising moves, just kind of "First boss = normal enemy with bigger health and damage" material which is fine :)

I'm thus far, with no malice in saying it, entirely interested based on the world and characters.

Not the gameplay.

Thus far, to me, this is 100% "Serviceable normal RPG maker style combat" that in no way grabs my attention, but it's in a game where I am constantly looking forward to the next character or the next enemy design. So I'm more than pleased :)

how multilayered the title is and how it refers to so many things inside the story---how pheromones are used to express emotions and how in a b/o or a/b relationship, the pheromones are a one-way street in which the other party can't respond. how life just goes on and time passes and one can't return to the past. how everyone in the story seems to have their own "one-way passages"---ming qin's resentment towards lu wenxing, ming siyan's feelings towards lu huaiye, lu huaiye the clowned one who's just muddling along feeling like sth is wrong but can't quite put a finger on it, lu wenxing trying to reach out to ming luchuan but ming luchuan doesn't care

xia wennan is like. at first he really was kind of. nasty lmao. and like it's prob also caused by panic that he lost his memories and there's suddenly a gap of 6 years and he did things that his 20-year-old self wouldn't ever have imagined doing. but then. but then... as the story progresses... i realized that xia wennan rly is just. rude and tactless. that's just who he is. i hope ming luchuan didn't take any hard feelings bc ur wife is rly just tactless and blunt to everyone. i even felt kind of ????? when he just roasted ming qin and ming siyan near the end like xia wennan, this is not the time??? but he is just that kind of person...

ming luchuan is like the first insecure alpha i've ever seen. like i've seen gentle alphas, introverted alphas, but ming luchuan is rly the most like one of those kdrama overbearing ceo with a traumatic past. he rly is just starved for love, and def gives off the vibe that he loves xia wennan more than xia wennan loves him bc of that. but like just bc he loves xia wennan doesn't mean he takes shit from him lmao i love it whenever xia wennan does something batshit insane like pluck his eyelashes while sleeping and ming luchuan goes are you sick in the head and xia wennan apologizes and tells him he can also pluck his eyelashes and ming luchuan does it!!!! it rly does take two to tango.

at certain points in the story, i did wonder if these two would work---like obviously they're the main cp in a happy end novel so they would work, but some couples just have chemistry, y'know? and like, in a very strangely haphazard sort of way, ming luchuan and xia wennan do make a very harmonious couple. they're both kind of crazy in their own ways, and like it's v clear that they know each other's flaws but they love each other anyway... i do love jgq novels and the cp she writes.

the plot twist at the end that was kind of predictable like wow for once i managed to guess 80% of what happened!! n i felt accomplished lmao

also when xia wennan first encountered the ming family post-amnesia man i got chills like wtf i didnt sign up for a horror story it was so unsettling

Oh so when Raz wanders around HQ collecting new parent figures like pokemon it's okay, but when BOBBY does it-

It's actually not quite the same as how Raz collects parent figures, though. Allow me to elaborate! Warning: wall-o-text, since I need to start from the beginning here somewhat.

So! Bobby doesn't remember his mom, but he's heard about her from Loboto. Stories of wanting to "cure" his emergent powers as an infant, with talk of hospital visits and icepicks and... Also how the name "Bobby" was her idea, but it's not like a perfectly good name makes up for wanting to scramble a baby's brains with an icepick so he can't pick up toys with his brain anymore!

Bobby is vaguely aware his dad went through something similar as a kid (further confirmed when he overhears Loboto and Otto discussing the differing situations behind their respective incidents*, and how Loboto could maybe regain full access to his powers with the aid of a psi focusing device like Otto's eye medallion). As far as he knows, his mother is still out there, and he is absolutely fucking terrified of encountering her. He's run away from foster/care homes and broken his dad out of asylums in the past because he was afraid that CPS might find his mother and give her custody - sure, icepick lobotomies are supposed to be illegal now, but so is performing dentistry and brain removal without a licence, and Loboto isn't the only dodgy scientist out there!

But like I said at the end of this other AU lore post, she didn't actually exist. It takes Chloe, Dogen and Norma taking a legally dubious trip into Bobby's mind for Bobby to remember that far back and be like "Wait... There was never any mom??... which I guess makes sense because dad is trans**... But WHY THE FUCK WOULD HE MAKE UP A WHOLE ASS ABUSIVE PARENT LIKE THAT", which is only slightly more pressing a question than the much more straightforward "BUT WHO'S MY OTHER BIO DAD THO????",

Meanwhile, Loboto is blissfully unaware of the impending domino chain of people he cares about being very upset at him. To quote Cecil WTNV, all at once, the consequences...

(I mean, his motivations for much of it were at least sort of understandable, although morally dubious as fuck and still not exactly justified. Aside from storing [REDACTED]*** in the equipment storage space that Otto has been letting him use for years. *Otto's family were in fact supportive of him and his powers! The private school he attended as a child, not so much. There was a lot of legal trouble involved in the aftermath, and led Otto to seek out a means of reconnecting to his powers, which led him to his interest in developing psychic technology.

**Yes, Bobby should have probably considered this possibility sooner, but also Bobby is kind of a fuckin bonehead sometimes, so he didn't.

well, no. yuck. what i’m saying is, what exactly and specifically do we want to happen?

there should not be explicit fic about underage characters, got it. so what age can they not be under? 18? 16? what country’s laws regarding the age of consent do we prioritize? like, i think it’s gross that the age of consent is 16 in some places, but i’m an american, so i would, wouldn’t i? so ok, what if we hedged it a bit and put the age as like, 14? that way it’s not little kids, it’s all teenagers. but no, gross, 14-year-olds are children. fun fact: so are 16-year-olds. they are also children.

what about fic about two teenagers having a consensual encounter? should all romantic or sexual fic have to be about adults only? your answer to this may very well be “yes,” and that’s completely valid. a teenager writing fic might disagree. somebody who’s a big fan of a show that’s about a bunch of teenagers might disagree. should there be an adults-only section on the site? there’s already a “stop, you have to be 18″ box to check before you can access explicit fic, so how do we verify a user’s age? they can just lie about their age and click through anyway. you have to be 18 to make a youtube account and i’ve had one since i was 13. i remember very deliberately choosing a new birth year when it asked for my birthdate.

then you get to slightly greyer areas like large age gaps, or heavy role play between consenting adults. i have absolutely witnessed fic that’s clearly written to be CP, but it’s tagged as age play. so like, for all intents and purposes this is CP, but if you roll in like “hey, this is fucked up,” they can be like, “oh, so you read this picturing actual children, sicko?? you have a problem with two adults doing shit in the bedroom??? how dare you!!! don’t like don’t read!!!”

it’s kind of like on porn sites, how they make like nasty inc*st stuff but call it “stepmom” or whatever, like oh, they’re not actually related! sure, joseph, thanks for covering all your bases

so we can’t ban kinks. or can we? should we limit depictions of serious addictions or domestic abuse too? torture, or even body horror? these are generally accepted to be dark content.

i’m not trying to engage in whataboutism, i’m naming actual, relevant questions about shit that’s disturbing in real life (no offense to kink people who follow codes of consent and conduct) and can be incredibly upsetting to encounter online. shit that i can’t imagine wanting to read, let alone write.

these are the questions that we, you, i, people pro-a*3 and people anti-a*3, are all asking, and not a single one of us can or should answer them unilaterally.

so it’s like, oh, okay, so there should be no oversight at all? should there be no rules? no, obviously, that would be horrible, i don’t trust any of these fuckers to conduct themselves civilly. so there should be some rules, but not too many rules. that’s what we have now, and clearly the way things are now isn’t working because a lot of users are reasonably very upset.

should there be a voting system, and rules are set by a popular vote? should certain words be flagged and you can’t post the fic with that word in it? should there be a thing where when you post a fic, you have to select the ages of each character and that’s listed at the top of the fic? what if they age during the fic? should there be a flagging function, where you report someone for not using sufficient tags? users will find workarounds for all of this. you know they will. so mods will have to be very specific about the rules and introduce, like, a vetting system for it. which is a lot more manpower and a lot more chances for subjective judgments.

all of the above is why it operates on a tagging system instead. i’m gonna be real, i only go on a*3 to read comments on my own shit lmao, and even when i did go on there more often i never went in the tags searching for fic. so is there a blacklist function? is there a flagging function?

if there is a flagging function, maybe they make it so that if the flagged user has violated the rules, their account is suspended and their fic made private for the duration and until they add necessary tags.

cool, a compromise. but uh-oh, it turns out Mod A agrees that this fic is n*ncon, but Mod B thinks it’s just vague, not n*nconsensual, and doesn’t feel comfortable banning the fic. or it turns out User didn’t post anything flaggable, they were reported by somebody who is targeting them for some reason, or by someone who is more stringent about n*ncon than somebody else would be, like, it’s gotta be enthusiastic and verbal consent or else it’s skirting the edges too much.

it’s like, we’ve already witnessed censorship (please take this word usage gently, i know it’s touchy but it’s the word to use here) being a problem here on tumblr with their stupid nipple ban. there’s a double standard regarding whose nipples are explicit and whose are kosher for public consumption. people have to appeal their shit getting flagged and sometimes nothing gets fixed regardless. i’m sure other people are pleased that there’s less of a chance of them accidentally scrolling past a picture of a hard dick at work.

so you get it, this is a problem that’s more complicated than “all of x should be banned and if you post it there’s something wrong with you,” a belief you’re more than entitled to hold but can’t base, like, fanfic legislation off of. you get it you get it.

you get it, but like, what is the fucking deal with those “fandom moms” who go off on soliloquies about the days of old or whatever the fuck whenever this topic comes up? what about the weirdos who are like, “what’s next, banning gay fic????” yeah, if we allow gay marriage you can marry a tree, that’s how it works, thanks tiffany.

but no, the reason they do this is NOT that they think lgbtq content is comparable in any way to CP. the reason they do this is that this exact problem has taken place on every site that has ever hosted fic. and many previous sites did think lgbtq content was comparable to CP. it was categorized as adult content and hidden.

that’s why a*3 exists in the first place. it was to avoid godmodding and absolutism. it’s supposed to be more or less self-governed. i don’t want there to be CP on a*3 any more than you do, but i also don’t trust randos to decide what is and isn’t acceptable content. this topic is not new.

i’m in support of stronger government regulation in real life because it can be argued that certain actions and systems violate human rights. everybody deserves food and shelter, for example. the same can’t be argued in this case because some creep writing CP doesn’t violate my rights. i find it offensive and i don’t think they should be writing it, but my right to click the back button is intact. there is no institution making it impossible or even difficult for me to not read fanfiction. the creep could just as reasonably argue that their right to post what they want is being affected.

why is this response so long? is it because i can’t shut up? yes, but also because this is a complex issue and that’s why nobody has taken significant action on it.

i’ve never understood this impulse to see somebody not doing a thing you want them to do and assume it’s out of malice or incompetence, anyway. i don’t know anybody who volunteers for a*3 but it’s my assumption that given the choice to have us all pissed at them, or have us all not pissed at them, they would choose to have us not be pissed at them. it just seems like the reasonable reaction to have. and like, i’d be pretty shocked to part the kimono and find out they’re all CP-loving gargoyles and a*3 actually stands for A lot Of child abus3. that is the reason i have not been like, “fuck a*3.” because what are they supposed to do, you know?

there’s no simple or inarguably morally right solution here. the princess is in another castle. just post fic on tumblr, i guess? make another hosting site that’s exactly like a*3 but romantic characters can only be like, 21?

i actually think the legal age in the US should be raised to 21, not joking. your brain literally and biologically isn’t finished developing at 18. teenagers lack the world experience to make decisions that adults make.

somewhere there is an 18-year-old or a person who moved out and became self sufficient at 18 who hates this sentiment. there’s a teenager in an abusive home who would be intensely demoralized by the prospect of having to remain beholden to these people for three more years.

and there’s a parent who is relieved to know that their kid can’t be preyed on by army recruiters for three more years. there’s a person who got into a car crash with a teenager who misjudged whether or not they could make a turn who’s like, yeah, she could probably have benefited from a few more years.

nothing is as simple as it should be. i agree with you, but i’m not willing to pass blanket judgments with regards to actions that should be taken. and honestly, given how little i actually go on the site, i don’t even have a dog in this fight. so all my opinions on it are moot anyway.

(side note, if you are in an abusive home and you can’t make your own bank account, or if your bank account is monitored by your abusive parents, maybe try venmo? you can get a debit card that pulls directly from your venmo balance. a surprising number of places accept venmo payments, and this way you can save up money in secret.)

He says this is probably the last OnisionSpeaks video ever. He’s jokingly said that in the past and have done a lot of “I quit” videos, but back then he was trolling. This is not a troll and you don’t have to believe it him. You’ll see it’s true when he no longer posts videos to this channel.

(Times the internet called the police and animal control on him stories, pizza delivery trolls.) He implies you guys are hypocrites because you call animal control over alleged abuse toward animals, but then you’ll pay for animals to be killed and sent to him when you would order meat lover’s pizzas to his house. Says they’ll be studying the psychology of the stupidity of the Anti-Onision community for years.

He says he’s going to have his word here because this is his last video on Speaks.

(Shiloh said she was going kill herself to frame him story.) He says we used a video he filmed of her ranting about how he ruined her life. All because he broke up with her. He says you may not know, but some people are really like that.

He compliments his lighting in this video.

You know he didn’t do anything Anti-O accuses him of because when animal control, CPS, and the police show up they all turn out to be a fraudulent cases. You guys harass, terrorize, and bully someone until you get your way. Says it’s ironic because you say he’s a horrible person yet you lie to the police, animal control, and CPS.

He says his name was Gregory Daniel at the time, he lived in the Tacoma, Washington area, and it was 2011. You might find a report for “boyfriend calls cops on girlfriend for threatening to kill herself and making it look like he did it and was hauled away by police.” He says if you look further back, you will see when he called the cops on Shiloh for other things and police concluded she needs to leave him alone because he was being harassed by her.

People say Onision should be in jail, but if you look at the history it doesn’t make sense. He dumped these people for committing crimes.

(People take pictures of his kids in public.) He says that’s how sick Anti-O freaks are. He’s trying to be a good father and protect the privacy of his children. He never tried to cash in on them or exploit them. [I guess minus all the clickbait videos he made to look like he was introducing them and the videos he made about their medical conditions. I don’t mean to nitpick, I just REALLY hate those videos.]

He has an Only Fans so there’s a pay wall so only adults can see his content. He says unless you steal someone’s credit card but that’s a while other issue and illegal on their part. Anti-O leak his OF content so now it’s available for kids. They’re the most pedophilic disgusting group he’s ever encountered.

He says he has a VPN, so he activates this thing and no one can trace his IP address. He says he used an IP blocker to access- [He laughs] “Most honest Youtuber here.” [This is his first time admitting this online, that’s why he’s stalling.] He used it to access “Ghetto Definitions” or “Street Definitions” [He means Urban Dictionary] “Onision” was ranked as “cuck” and the ones below it were nice. He wanted the nice definitions at the top so he used a VPN to vote for the good definitions to go to the top and it worked. They stayed at the top for a while. He says that was the first time he found out about IP blockers. He’s telling you this because he’s one of the most honest people you’ll ever encounter and lot of you are too stupid to know that. [Yep, pretending to be multiple people to manipulate a website that is based on voting is very honest.]

Says a lot of the people against him have admitted to being liars and he’s telling you he’s honest. That’s how stupid you guys are.

He made a poll asking if he or Hitler killed more people. You guys said Onision did, that’s how rational you are. Morons, cult of inbreds. [He was obviously looking for that outcome. That’s why he made that poll. He knows people will pick him because they think it’s funny and not because they are going off of historical facts. No one makes a serious poll asking if they killed more people than Hitler.]

He says “Ghetto Definitions” is now all filled with evil definitions that call him horrible things.

He says according to the CPS lady, someone reported Onision posted to Twitter that he was going to r-a-p-e and murder his family. He asks why would someone “r-a-p-e”? Murder? Go online and brag about it? He says it makes no sense. He says you’d mask your IP if you’re going to say something horrible online so it can’t be traced back to you. Says he’s never used a VPN to say something horrible, but doing that would be common sense.

This is why he’s quitting this channel. People can’t handle him having a controversial opinion or him kicking people out of his life for cheating and lying.

Blaire White is the one who started the witch hunt against him. She read off a news article that was bull crap. [It was not. You can read an archive of the article here.] She got canceled for admitting to taking hateful online rumors and using them in videos. He says she kind of canceled him in 2016, but he got re-cancelled later on. She was one of the leading voices against him when talking to Chris Hansen.

He says it’s one thing to go after him, but when you go after his family, we can’t do this anymore. You guys are fucking monsters so why would he grace you guys with his insight?

It makes me so tired to see all these posts about how donating to AO3 instead of people's personal donation posts or non profit charities makes you a monster.

1. To all the people who are saying oh wow you're so stupid the money doesn't go to the writers...No duh it doesn't go to the writers! You can't legally make money off of fanfiction. The money is for operating costs, like the servers for all the millions of works and the lawyers to prevent authors from suing you for transformative works and the volunteers who sort through tags, and so much more. So yes support authors through ko-fi and patreon, that's good! But that doesn't negate all the operating costs of such a large archive.

2. Other websites that host content make their money from ads or selling your data. AO3 doesn't do that and so it needs donations like Wikipedia. I think of it like a much, much cheaper Netflix or Spotify subscription, one you don't even have to pay to use! I personally would prefer not to be bombarded by ads while reading fic. AO3 asks for donations annually so them asking now has nothing to do with taking away resources from people in need during coronavirus.

3. I see again and again people circling around to the idea that AO3 supports pedophilia and CP. First of all, learn to tell the difference between the real world and fiction. Pedophilia and CP are obviously bad and illegal because real children are being harmed. Depictions of such in fiction can be squicky but no real children were harmed in the making. So there is no equivalence. People are also salty about not being able to block writers who write about underage sex, but that is literally the whole point. AO3 was created to be a safe space for writers, not readers (that's what the tags are for). So many other fanfic sites have gone under because of people who escalate petty fandom drama or ship wars into blocking writers left and right. And now you even have the ability to exclude tags so there's really no excuse. In all my years of reading I have only once encountered a fic on AO3 that didn't tag for a warning (major character death)--and you can report incorrect tagging, so it's a system that works pretty well. Learn to curate your own reading experience instead of going immediately to the nuclear option of censorship. Also be highly skeptical of anybody who claims they're doing something to protect the children. How are you protecting actual children? (All of this did remind me to find an organization fighting against CP and donate twice the amount I donated to AO3, so I guess that's a positive that came out of all the antis). And for those who say that fic depicting underage sex can be used for grooming children, I'm sorry to say that anything can. Disney? Cartoons? Bikes? Literally anything. And we're not about to call for a ban on those.

What these posts should be saying is hey if you have some money to spare for AO3 would you consider matching that donation or exceeding it for people in need during this pandemic?

I dont understand how someone can look at this Ray situation and determine that you need to have the cops called on you. Given everything he's done and continues to do, and all the information you've posted about it, backed up with receipts, it blows my mind. Its like no, if you dont know about the situation and you dont have all the facts you dont do that period. But here in this case we have everything and yet...

I recently reread Cruel Prince/read the B&N short story, and I had THOUGHTS:

Cardan is already drunk at the coronation because he's angsty about his least favorite brother becoming king, but he gets really drunk to the point of completely missing the coronation massacre because he's pissed about Jude. So essentially, Jude is indirectly responsible for saving his life.

I love how Jude is so shocked that Cardan is attracted to her that her first thought is that he must somehow be lying or twisting his words, while Kaye figures it out in about five seconds flat just watching them dance from a distance, before she's spoken to either one of them.

During the nixie episode, Jude thinks Cardan goes to the river's reeds to get a better look when she slips and falls in the water. He's really about to get into the river to help her if she was actually in trouble. I love how she automatically assumes the worst conclusions with him.

Cardan was probably looking for Jude under the tables after the coronation massacre. She and Taryn have a well-established habit of hiding under the tables at feasts, and he knew she would be in danger. It wasn't luck that Jude got her hands on Cardan - he was actively trying to find her.

One of the guards at Hollow Hall tells Jude and Sophie that Cardan has to return them both back this time. This raises SO MANY QUESTIONS. Cardan at the start of CP wouldn't be the type to return glamoured humans to the human world - he really does have a contempt of them, learned from Balekin and from his friends. But he also wouldn't intentionally hurt human servants either, and definitely not kill them. So what was happening there? I don't think we'll ever get answers and that upsets me a little.

When Jude first breaks into Cardan's room, she sees that he broke his pen. The pen he was writing his infamous Jude note with… so many angsty feelings.

Jude and co are literally the biggest dumbasses for not seeing the Balekin/Madoc alliance coming. Jude recognizes the spy she killed as being Madoc's and just decides not to mention it?? Jude figures out they've been misreading the blusher mushroom note and then not only fails to follow up on her investigation (to be fair, getting sidetracked to rescue Sophie is a noble cause), she fails to mention it to the Court! Sorry but the Court of Shadows is really bad at spying. Just epically bad. No wonder they mess up again in WK.

Cardan making out with random fairies while watching Jude make out with Locke is a mood and I can't believe Jude didn't figure out things sooner.

At the beginning of WK, when Grimsen is introduced, Jude mentions that Cardan had told her some info once about the Alderking's son Severin. I totally forgot that happened in CP and that we also met Severin.

I love how at the coronation and the Hollow Hall party, murder and mayhem is happening with abandon and everyone just stands around eating popcorn and watching the shenanigans unfold.

I really liked The Lost Sisters novella, but it ended a little too soon. I'm forever curious about Taryn's thought process when Jude comes in with Cardan at the Hollow Hall party.

In addition to Jude and co being unbearably bad spies, the one other major failing of the book is that it starts at the point when Jude stops giving a shit and starts fighting back. For the majority of her childhood, Jude has sat with Taryn under tables and hidden in balconies at feasts, bowed her head and bit her tongue to Cardan, and generally kept a low profile when the faeries are asshats to her. At the start of CP, Jude decides she's had enough and enters her rebellious teenage phase. Taryn says multiple times in CP that Jude fighting back "isn't like you" and is a new bad idea Jude hasn't had before. This is reinforced in The Lost Sisters. But we don't really get much of a glimpse of Jude's previously meek behavior, except at the first feast when she curtsies to Cardan. Because of this, Jude starts off in feisty rage mode, which rather lessens the effect of said mode because we don't have anything to compare it to. I wish CP had started a little earlier, so we could get a better contrast and also a better idea of how Jude survived this long if she's willing to push everyone's buttons.

It's very clear that Cardan was attracted to Jude even when he was with Nicasia, which much have pissed him off to no end. I'm so curious when he started developing feelings for Jude.

I didn't notice this so much in WK, but in CP Cardan and Jude's contrasting approaches to alcohol speaks volumes about their personalities. Jude has a low alcohol tolerance and wouldn't drink anyways because she likes to always be in control of herself and always be in a sane frame of mind. She feels like she always needs to be on her toes and can never truly relax (and is in fact kind of creeped out by how relaxed and chill she was at Locke's house). Cardan drinks in excess because he hates his life and if he's drunk he can basically forget about it. Jude is constantly aware of her shitty situation and makes copious efforts to improve it by any means possible. Cardan is unmotivated to improve his shitty situation because he believes there is no way to fix or improve it, so might as well get drunk and have fun.

It will never cease to amuse me that one of Cardan's demands in exchange for helping Jude and co stop Balekin is all the alcohol in the palace. Like, damn.

I love the part when Jude and Cardan are in class the day after she snuck into Hollow Hall and saw Balekin beat him, and she realizes he's actually in a lot of pain but pretending to be his usual chill, snarky self. And she realizes that there's been plenty of times he's come to class and has pretended he's fine when he isn't, just like her. It's a nice moment early-ish on where Jude starts to understand that she and Cardan have more in common than she'd like to think.

It's also a great scene when Jude finally tells Cardan the exact circumstances of Valerian's death. Cardan says he assumed Jude had hunted down and murdered Valerian, and I rather like that Cardan had begun to think the worst of Jude in the same way that she thought the worst of him. When she holds him at knife's point at the end of the coronation, she realizes she's smirking in the same way that Cardan usually did to her. So there's some nice continued role reversal where Cardan is taking on Jude's worst case scenario expectations. When Jude explains that Valerian actually tried to kill her again and came pretty close, Cardan realizes that he had misunderstood Jude's character. Holly Black has said that Cardan is the only person who truly understands Jude, and I think that moment is when Cardan really starts to get Jude and how she operates. He understands that Jude isn't actually as mean and nasty as she's been pretending to be, and that she must have given Valerian quite a few chances for him to have nearly strangled her.

Not a new note, but Vivi's decision to give zero fucks about anything Madoc cares about is amazing and a beauty to witness. The fact that she has maintained and sustained this kind of rebellion for ten years is honestly life goals.

Returning to the B&N short story, I quite like Kaye and I hope she and Jude become friends. But I really don't get the Kaye/Roiben dynamic. I don't think the story did a great job of making their relationship convincing, in part because the story got majorly sidetracked with playing voyeur to Jude and Cardan. Which was my favorite part of the story, but still. This is Kaye's short story, not Jude and Cardan's.

I have SO. MANY. QUESTIONS about the Ghost's motivations. After the coronation massacre, everyone is upset, but the Roach is mostly upset that they now have literally nothing without Dain while the Ghost is mostly upset that Dain is dead. So the Ghost is loyal to Dain, whereas the rest of the Court of Shadows were mostly opportunistic and loyal to the power and money that Dain could offer them. But then why would the Ghost side with Balekin and the Undersea in WK? Balekin literally killed Dain. He stabbed him straight through the chest. I can see the Ghost thinking Jude and Cardan and shitty rulers, but I can't fathom him siding with Balekin. There is clearly other things going on that will be explained in QoN, but right now I am a very confused person.

So it wasn't clear to me until after I reread CP that the original Hollow Hall plan was to drug Madoc and then have him fall asleep at the party while Jude was in the hallway letting the Court in through the window. It wasn't Jude's original intent for Madoc to follow her out, and their duel was her improvising to delay Madoc until the poison took effect. So the OG plan was just for Madoc to collapse in the party in front of everyone and for Balekin to just think this was fine and normal?! I would think that would totally freak Balekin out and maybe even lead him to cancel the party immediately, which would ruin Jude's plan.

Where are the other faerie lands?? Where do the other courts live? Jude has literally only ever been to the islands of Elfhame, but there's this massive faerie world out there that she's heard about but never been to. I'm so curious, and I have a good feeling we'll find out in QoN since the setting is ice and snow.

By the way, super curious also about how Cardan has a copy of Alice in Wonderland in his room. I guess he sees Alice as a Jude parallel. Is he more curious about Alice, the intruder in Wonderland, or about the inhabitants of Wonderland themselves? Everyone keeps commenting that Jude and Taryn's situation is like a fairytale come to life, but I think it's interesting to view their situation through an Alice in Wonderland lens. In the book, Wonderland is insane because it literally runs on dream logic, nothing makes sense, and Alice spends the entire book attempting and failing to apply human logic and reasoning to the madness she encounters. But what if Wonderland wasn't a dream, and what if Alice couldn't go back home in the end? What if Alice had to stay in Wonderland forever?

Every time Cardan tells Jude that she doesn't belong in Faerie and should leave, all I can think about is in WK, when he tells her, "I wasn't sure if I wanted you or wanted you gone from my sight so I that I would stop feeling as I did." Having read that in WK, it's so interesting to go back and see those moments in CP where Cardan is trying to get Jude to leave Faerie so he can forget about her and move on. 

When Jude first starts trying to make alliances with other courts, we get this great line: “’Take care’ he [Cardan] says, then smiles. ‘It would be very dull to have to sit here for an entire day just because you went and got yourself killed.’” Cardan admitted earlier to Jude that he smiles when he’s nervous, and I’m convinced that’s why he’s smiling here. He tells her to take care because he’s genuinely worried about her safety. Then he has an ‘oh shit my feelings are showing’ moment and backtracks by covering his slip up with an insult.
