I cannot emphasize enough that this was for a game of kemari to resolve some vague beef Rurichiyo and Kenryuu were having, there were literally no stakes whatsoever to everyone else, who just showed up and chose violence.

thinking about the last few lines of father and son by cat stevens/yusuf in the context of the ted lasso finale:

“If they were right, I'd agree

But it's them they know not me

Now there's a way and I know

That I have to go away

I know I have to go”

The song is emblematic to ted and henry’s relationship, but i like to think these last few lines are really ted talking to afc richmond.

In a way, ted’s saying that even though it’s a smart choice to stay in richmond, it’s not the one he WANTS. yes, everyone knows the ted that coached the team into the premier and champions league; yes, they know the ted that brought rebecca biscuits and told puns; yes, they know the ted that made sure everyone knew they were important. but at his core, ted wants to be a good father for his son. to make sure he gets to connect with henry in a way he didn’t get to with his own father.

Ted’s character arc has been as much about henry as it’s been about his own healing. The show has always been about ted being a father. To do that, he had to “go away” and learn what kind of father he wants to be. Now, he had to go away again and BE that father to henry.

#called the DR about some pain that doesn't seem to be getting better with the meds he prescribed #he sent me a prn medicine to take which is very helpful #but the assistant was talking with me sent to me to get blood work done to rule out an infection #considering the procedures/tests i had back to back #but that according to my chart it could be NERVE PAIN #which is fun bc thats the first time they told me what it might be #but so i looked up nerve pain in that area and im like 90% sure thats it #but lots of top results were reddit posts about ppl talking about how their lives suck now! #a medical website said it could be from trauma to the area and it showed a picture of someone getting hit with a soccer ball #so maybe hockey did this me

So I’m halfway through watching Shrinking on Apple TV (since it’s about psychologists and people in my program recommended it to me) and it’s truly the worst thing I’ve watched in a while. The only people in it who seem real at all are Harrison Ford’s character and the daughter. The rest of the characters are very “I’m an awkward sitcom millennial with no boundaries! and this is what drives the whole plot!” It’s very current in how it interacts with mental health and race, I suppose, but it doesn’t actually say anything interesting about either of those things. I might be able to forgive all this if the writing and pacing were better, but it’s really not. It lingers on jokes waaaay after the possibility of humor is beaten into the ground because it wants to be realistic as well as funny, but it succeeds at neither.
