I’m a bit out of the loop though, is the rumor about him potentially delaying his enlistment just some wishful thinking coming from some Army and solos or is there real substance to it? That would be such a bad move and a bad marketing tactic imo. I have a hard time thinking he would agree to this. Most Korean guys seem to want to get rid of ms as soon as they can, have it done and move on with their lives, that would make no sense to me to stay while all his hyungs and then a few years later have to go all alone while the 6 other members are thriving. I don’t see him do that but who knows. I mean, it’s his life and his personal decision but it would be such a stupid one imo, even for his solo career. Sure he’s an idol, he’s rather successful right now but he would have to face some heavy backlash and I somehow would understand why. I think all the members are going to be gone within the next 3-4 months, it was pretty much the plan and I selfishly hope they stick to that.

Indiana Pipps/Dr. Kranz comics I’m planning on scanlating

as a reminder to myself because I’m not that good at keeping track of things and also to see if literally anyone besides me is interested in these characters and/or this ship, but these are only coming when 20+-pages stories stop feeling like such a daunting challenge tbh. also they won’t probably even be in this order because what even is proper organization. I mean, I don’t even know if I should use the Italian name I’m familiar with or the official English “Arizona Goof.”

Mickey Mouse and Goofy in: Raiders of the Lost Temple - Goofy’s weird archaeologist cousin comes to Mouseton to enlist Goofy’s help in the search for the titular lost temple, as he suspects he’s being spied on by a ruthless rival. Indiana’s and Kranz’s first appearance, which I feel is pretty important because... do people outside of Italy even know who these characters are? Maybe the hardcore Goofy fans do, idk.

Indiana Pipps and the Lost Island - Indiana is searching for the location of a mysterious wandering island mentioned in texts going all the way from Ancient Greece to the 15th century, but of course, Kranz finds a way to tag along in hopes of stealing his discovery. The whole thing ends with Kranz imprisoned on the wandering island. This one is mostly relevant because of its sequel, Indiana Pipps and the Return of Dr. Kranz.

Indiana Pipps and the Return of Dr. Kranz - Kranz finds a way to escape from the wandering island and aims to reveal its current position to some Evil Rich Man who’d pay a lot to exploit its secrets. Indiana, of course, sets out to stop him... and in the process, he ends up telling Mickey that he and Kranz used to be friends, and how and why they eventually fell out and became enemies.

Indiana Pipps and the rescue out of obligation - After an unfortunate mishap involving two lost idols and an overly smug Indiana, Kranz is kidnapped by someone who wants to get their hands on an incredible (and potentially, incredibly dangerous) archaeological discovery he’s been working on. Indiana, still feeling a bit bad about their last meeting and also feeling his nemesis is kind of his responsibility, rushes to his rescue with Mickey’s help... except, not everything is as it seems. My favorite Indiana Pipps story, and the one that got me shipping this ship in the first place. Featuring hilarious amounts of pettiness and a bunch of conflicted feelings that are honestly the main reason why I want to translate this, because I kinda want to write meta about them without people stumbling on my post and being like “... okay but what the actual fuck are you talking about.”

Indiana Pipps and the Gardens of Asgard - Nothing shippy about this one, but it involves Norse mythology and few things make me happier than Mouseverse or Duckverse stuff involving Norse mythology.

Indiana Pipps and Circe’s enchantments - Sort of a WAY more lighthearted and comedic counterpart to The rescue out of obligation. Kranz thinks Indiana has been turned into a boar by a descendant of Circe, the witch from the Odyssey. He allies with Mickey to save him.

Indiana Pipps and the resounding stones - Indiana finds himself allying with Kranz and another archaeologist they both can’t stand to find the last of four special stones that, when put together, will reveal the way to a lost emerald idol. This one has a nice little bit of characterization for Kranz right at the end, plus I like stories where he and Indiana can at least agree on disliking another character more than they dislike each other.

Indiana Pipps and the King of Waves’ surfboard - Indiana and Kranz find themselves working together (more or less...) to find an ancient Hawaiian king’s “magic” surfboard on a behalf of a college they’d both studied in for some time and the wannabe surfer rockstar who’s ready to pay said college a million dollars in funding if they’ll be able to find him the surfboard.

Young Indiana - A six-episodes series about Indiana’s college years, when he was just starting to fall back in love with archaeology after some misadventures in his childhood had left him discouraged. Featuring Kranz as Indiana’s best friend and roommate, Indiana’s crush on a girl that doesn’t really go anywhere in the end and is much less important than his friendship with Kranz, and some intense friendship drama with a happy ending. Can you guess why I like it so much?

Indiana Pipps and the unbearable fixation - Indiana is so used to Kranz randomly popping out of nowhere and trying to steal his discoveries that justified caution and alertness turn into obsession: he starts thinking everyone he meets is actually his disguised nemesis, and Mickey has to try and cure him! The kind of story for when you like your friends to enemies to “it’s complicated” ship to have that extra little bit of obsession.

Indiana Pipps and the Chocofelix - Don’t remember this one at all, but there’s Martina Ubersetzen in it and I like Martina.

Indiana Pipps and the Desert Games - Indiana and Kranz, together with Professor Zapotec’s niece, Filippa Zapotec, are called on by their old college professor to accompany him in a desert expedition to find a Pharaoh’s board games. Except both of them are constantly at each other’s throat, and that pisses off both their professore and Filippa, and then they all realize someone might be sabotaging the expedition, and Indiana is sure Kranz is the saboteur, and they both think Filippa isn’t a “real” archaeologist because she’s obsessed with the paranormal and hunting for ghost in the ruins of the Pharaoh’s palace, and Filippa keeps getting offended, and... in the end, things do get better (at least for a while) and everybody manages to be surprisingly civil and even friendly with everyobdy else. Yes, even Kranz and Indiana. I actually still have the Topolino issue this story was published on, but it’s a bit ruined and also both my scanner and my ability to scan comics are kind of crap, so... still looking.

Indiana Pipps and the Foresight Stele - Indiana teams up with a cute, perky female archaeologist... but this time, she turns out to be Kranz’s cousin, working with him to set a trap for Indiana. Contains literally the only background on Kranz’s family besides a couple of details in Young Indiana.

Indiana Pipps and the Crystal Temple - Another one I don’t remember but want to include anyway because Martina.

Dining with Indiana: Indiana Pipps and the Survival Plant - Part of the Dining with Indiana series, where different characters have dinner with Indiana Pipps in his Mouseton house. Indiana and Kranz find themselves stranded in the desert and have to collaborate to survive, and swear to each other that if they manage to get out of this adventure alive, they will have dinner together once every year. They make it, and years later, they remember their adventure and how it all started during their latest dinner together.

yang chaowen is really a sensitive kid... man he brings out renyu's song's feels and then brings up ylq to relate to the lyrics bc he knows his friend isnt getting as much appreciation as himself. (this makes even more sense after ylq said he had been crying before ycw went onstage and ycw was comforting him... and then after ycw came off the stage, it was time for ylq to comfort him from crying TT) Their friendship is really something. watching chen junhao feeling lost oh man :/ maybe he hadnt fully prepared himself for the idol life when first coming on this show. its unfortunate reality that in this kind of idol survival show, the focus is more on stage presence and face and performance, rather than the music itself. Hopefully he really feels that hes found a path forward through this performance. This is a really real way to present him but I'm sad theres not as much focus on li chenxu when this is hissss song

ok so maybe im liking more new kids than i expected, but i think thats a good thing that the show is making them likable and some kids are able to stand out! honestly i realized I kinda can see why they eliminated so many to begin with. It's sad but also kinda nice tbh (ouch, i know) bc if they really got rid of the ones who have less skill, it makes it easier for the others who dont have to teach from zero (cough lin mo) And then those with skill get to have at least 3(?) stages, unlike qcyn where jin fan got eliminated after only doing 1 silly stage lol The skill level of the stages is also raised, like there's multiple groups of almost all people who are well qualified. im sure the kids are happy that they get to do more stages, im sure that means a lot to them. 

At least on snzm they attempt to give most trainees a positive light and give screentime to more than just the top 10 trainees. and they allow someee time for vocals, dancers and rappers to get appreciation (even tho dancers are still dominating lol)

but yea honestly I disliked the judging on pdc2019 too tho so at least the judges here can be supportive... at times. it is SUPER biased and gjm is very vocal despite his lack of knowledge tho lol 

it's so bad bc I feel like my standards for shows are so low at this point. my standards get lowered with every show I watch. It's like I guess the snzm songs are okay bc I hated the ones on afo more so at least the stages aren't thattt bad lol At least the rules/general setup aren't as terrible as they were on afo..... at least the camera time isnt as biased as it was on qcyn.... sigh the show isnt doing great, and itd be best if the show would help the tygers get more popular, but I guess its prob better than just doing nothing at star master lol. 

qcyn was just painful to watch from "spirit of the knight" onward bc momo literally was buried, mistreated, disrespected and taken advantage of. at least on snzm he gets some screentime and positive recognition.....

tbh i like snzm, maybe thats an unpopular opinion, but at least there have been some really great stages, where the kids really get to shine. at least i can confidently say that bc of snzm, i have met some new kids who i will be sure to follow for new music moving forward :)

As calm as he was during the pregnancy, when it’s time to give birth it’s a whole other story

You wake him up in the middle of the night to complain about really bad cramps

And he’s up and ready in 2 seconds, doesn’t even take the time to get dressed, and he’s already out the door with your hospital bag in hand

Ends up coming back to help you walk to the car but he’s freaking out

Speed limit ? Stop signs ? Red lights ? What are those ? You’re thankful it’s 2AM and no one’s on the road because Mark would’ve caused accidents with his reckless driving

When you arrive at the hospital, he’s still freaking out and nearly causing a scene, nearly shouting at random nurses for help

You end up being the one having to calm him down despite being in so much pain

Eventually someone comes in and brings you to an exam room to determine if labor as begun or if you’re just experiencing Braxton Hickscontractions

Turns out you’re not and the doctor can already feel the baby’s head trying to come out

You’re rushed into the delivery room and Mark has trouble keeping up with everything

Boy does he regret not reading those books Jaebum bought for you because he has no idea what’s happening

He tries his best to stay strong for you because you’re screaming and you’re very obviously in pain

He ends up being completely useless

When morning comes he starts getting phone calls from the other members because he’s missing practice and he loses his temper and just texts them “my son is being born shut the fuck up this is more important”

30 minutes later the whole group is in the hallway in front of your room waiting for it to be over

Mark ends up joining them and by joining them I mean you end up kicking him out of the room because as much as he tries hiding the fact that he’s freaking out, he can’t, and you can’t deal with this shit while you’re pushing out a 15 lbs baby out of your vagina

After what felt like an eternity, he finally hears your baby’s cries and it just sounds like music to his ears

He comes back into the room to see this tiny little thing in your arms and his heart stops beating

You’re sweaty and panting heavily and you look like you’ve been run over by a truck but you’ve never looked so beautiful to him than in this moment

He carefully walks up to you and kneels right next to you, resting his head on the bed and stares at his son in your arms while the boys not-so-sneakily take pictures from the door frame

Mark is lowkey scared to hold him when you ask if he wants to because he’s scared he’s going to break him

altho ure not super close with any one person in particular, a lot of the girls there are super friendly so its easy for u to drift around to hang out with different groups

u dont get a lot of time to think abt him tho, just bc everything moves so fast in the competition

still, sometimes when ure trying to rest after another long day of practice, u cant help but reminisce on some of ur more playful and relaxed memories with daehwi

somehow, word didnt really get out abt how close u two were until midway thru the season

it wasnt like u were intentionally keeping it a secret, but it didnt rlly come up for awhile

not when u were all busy just trying to get some airtime and become a better idol

u rlly cant talk to daehwi often, but there are some occasions where the p101 staff let u make a phone call

if ure not calling ur family, u always use it to call him

u use the limited time to catch up, and he always showers u in support and compliments, telling u how hes watching every ep when it airs and is cheering u on

even tho u cant see him, u can imagine the way he smiles as he says it, and its enough to make u smile as well

as the days and performances move on u get closer and closer to the final stage

u havent always been at the top of the rankings, but uve still been doing pretty well esp recently w all of the positive attention tht uve been getting

u make it to the finale, and u cant help but hold ur breath the entire time

in this mass of people in the audience, its impossible to make out anyones faces, so u cant recognize if anyone came to support u

u cant help but hope tht somehow daehwi made it, but u know hes been so busy with his own practicing tht he probably doesnt have time

theres a section of past p101 winners somewhere else, but its even further away and harder to see with all of the bright lights

the next couple of hours go by both achingly slow and annoyingly fast

as the names slowly start to get called, u watch with a heavy heart as more and more people are cheered their way on to safety

honestly ure still kinda surprised tht u made it this far, since u started out only hoping to gain experience and a vague fanbase with the show

but now tht ure here, u cant help but hope tht u make it to the end

despite everything u find urself cheering on the other girls whenever theyre announced as a finalist

everyones crying and ure no better tbh

its getting to the top, just before they decide to go back and announce the final member of the group, and ur ranking of 10 last week suddenly seems far too low, esp as 3rd place is about to be announced

then out of nowhere, ur name is called

ur hands are shaking and u keep looking around bc is this rlly happening?? but everyones screaming and hugging u and ure like ??????????

u cant even string together proper thoughts at this point

somehow u make it to the other stage where one of the staff puts a microphone in ur hands and the cameras are all aimed towards u

honestly half the things u say are just random words of gratitude or names tht u can never forget

ur busy telling ur parents, rhymer, all the other girls, ur fans, abt how much u love them, tht for a second somehow u almost forget abt daehwi

thts when ur gaze flickers to a screen in the stadium where the camera is focused on daehwi cheering and tearing up from his spot somewhere w some of the other p101 boys

of course u have to end it with a “lee daehwi!!! i love u too!!!!!!!” bc even if u know most ppl will take it platonically, ure not sure if he’ll see it the same way

u say one last thank u before ure practically skipping over to ur seat and u cant help but think tht ure SO HIGH UP

still, now tht u know where daehwi is, even tho u cant make out his face, u feel ur heart stutter knowing that he’s there cheering for u

the rest of the night goes by in a blur honestly

as soon as ure all let backstage to meet up w ur family/friends, u find urself being tackled by a combination of familiar faces

daehwi is laughing into ur side, arm slung around ur shoulder, as ur parents try to congratulate u thru their tears, and uve never felt happier

after an embarrassingly long time of hugging and crying, daehwi manages to pull u to a slightly less crowded and loud area

n hes like “listen,, y/n,,,, u know im rlly proud of u too right?? like i love u a lot”

and ure not even thinking abt what u said in ur speech, just nodding along happily bc above all else, daehwi is still ur best friend

but he looks at u and he cant rlly stop smiling either, but he grabs u by the shoulders to say “no, i rlly love u a lot”

so ure like “okay??? and??????”

and he keeps staring at u with this stupid grin on his face and then it hits u and ure like “oh. oH. OH!!!!!!”

so ure both just smiling at each other like idiots n ure like “i think i love u too??”

at tht he has this mock-offended face like “u THINK”

LAITO:

My first exposure to dialovers was the anime so my first impression towards Laito was like “oh, he’s the flirty one - oh shit he’s banging her in a church, you cant do that, thats nuts lol” but as I got more into the games, Laito became SO IMPORTANT TO ME??? especially like his relationships, w/ ALL the characters like his brothers and yui and the other families and everything! I especially love learning more about his relationship with Ayato and Kanato because it’s so dang complex. His feelings towards his triplet bros is really complicated because he loves them and you know he loves them but his trauma w/ his mom sort of fucks it all up so he’s got like this genuinely nice and kind and loving personality fighting against this trauma and warped view of the concepts of love and family that Cordelia gave him, and what you get is, “I love my family and I hope they die” and throughout the games u learn more about the reasons why he has those world views and it’s SO GOOD Laito is such a well thought-out character!?! As a writer Laito delights me but as a fan, his whole deal makes me so dang sad djhfghjdkdfd

That’s why I was so fucking satisfied w/ Laito in the Laito vs Shin cd because you got a bunch of the darker stuff surrounding him (his tendency to push people off of buildings, that FUCKING VOICE DROP he does when he’s genuinely mad) and Laito was like...he was SCARY. And he was scaring YUI and he was scaring HIMSELF, too, which made me so sad!! Laito was like crying and punching walls and being like “why am I acting like this??” and it fuckin broke my heart dude. He’s a genuinely good person, he’s so wonderful, but he’s recovering from some really really nasty stuff. So that cd really gave me a sense of like, “Man, Laito hates this just as much as I do.” It makes me want to...idk...it makes me want to give him more opportunities to be good. He really is good!!!

KANATO:

As for my first impression, I think Kanato turned me off right away because I could instantly recognize all the tropes they were gonna use when they were designing him. You can look at him and tell that he’s gonna be the ~yandere~ character (I hate using that word but u know what tropes I’m talking about). As soon as they showed him eating a bunch of sweets I was like “yep.” When they showed us his room full of wax dolls, I was like “uh huh, that seems about right.” And then he yelled a lot and tried to stab Yui for making him french toast or whatever and I was like “ok.........I’ll go start ayato’s route” u know??? just super not my type, and the Kanato vs Azusa cd was torture because Azusa’s so soft-spoken but Kanato’s always yelling at the top of his lungs. I had to keep messing with the volume and it bugged me.

I think I would like Kanato a lot more if he...had a...friend. I think rejet kinda realized that he needed one and they had that in mind when they were introducing Azusa, but that ended up being a pretty bad failure I think. Kanato doesn’t really get along with anyone and he’s pretty open about admitting that he doesn’t like anyone particularly well. I’m glad to see him starting to love Yui genuinely but...idk I feel like every other diaboy has another diaboy(s) that he gets along with really well and it’s always nice to see them acting friendly and even encouraging each other sometimes! Kanato doesn’t really have that kind of relationship with anyone. When Ayato tried to reach out and apologize in LE, Kanato was like “lol kill yourself” and I was actually so fuckin mad at him, I was like “boy if you don’t fix that attitude of yours-”..........I guess I just wish that he had more character development by this point. That scene really hurt.

RUKI:

Basically the WORST first impression ever...my first Ruki scene that I ever saw was when he broke the cat’s neck and I was so pissed. I was like “immediately fuck this guy” and he became my least favorite character right away. And on top of that he was really elitist and one of those jerk intellectuals “ohhh solve this puzzle or STAY OUT THERE IN THE COLD you big dumb idiot. im smart and you’re not” and I was like FUCK this guy, how does yuma put up with him with HIS backstory?

But I hella warmed up to him during MB, like especially during Reiji’s route where Ruki was like “...uh...okay” the whole time jhdghdj that shit was hilarious. Ruki started feeling really real. And I think that like...hm...like if Laito is a genuinely good person surrounded by bad influence, Ruki is the opposite - he’s a bad personality surrounded by good influence. Ruki’s a jerk and he’s been a jerk his whole life but he has these wonderful brothers who love him so much and this lovely angel Yui and he’s just got all these good people who look up to him and he has to be good. This little asshole kid who treated all his servants like shit is now cooking dinner for his three adoptive brothers every day and they love him so much and they love him so much. It’s so fucking satisfying. I love seeing him supporting his brothers even though it conflicts with his personality and his main drive, like letting Kou run away with Yui even though Kou couldn’t become Adam. Ruki’s most important thing in MB was making one of the Mukamis become Adam but he gave that up to let Kou be happy. That shit is so important. Ruki was such a fuckin turnaround for me, I hated him at first but now I love the hell out of him and what he represents for the Mukamis.

KOU:

Kou is great!! I think he’s affected lots of characters in really positive ways, and he’s been affected in positive ways by different characters and it’s really nice to see. For sure he’s still got that trauma from his past but I really appreciate that Kou is in an environment that doesn’t have a lot of reminders of the bad stuff from his childhood. Like, how Kou was sought after for being such a beautiful child, and how he was trapped in a dark place for such a long time. There’s none of that shit when he lives with the Mukamis. Rejet could’ve easily put in tons of haunting reminders about Kou’s whole “too beautiful for his own good” thing but whenever he gets complimented, it’s usually for something different. Azusa will talk about how talented and amazing he is, and Kino’ll be like “idol clothes are pretty nuts huh? lol” and Ruki will be like “you’re working properly after all” and I fuckin love that shit...They could’ve made it so dang hard for Kou, but no, he’s in a much happier place now. He’s nice and comfortable being with these people. That makes me feel relieved lol

I already talked about how he helped Ruki but I think the most important relationship with a diaboy that he has is SUBARUUUUU cuz like, when you look at Subaru’s route you’re like “oh he definitely needs a friend, I’m glad he has a gf but he was so dang lonely and self-deprecating that he DEFINITELY just needs a genuine good friend” and then Kou showed up and he was like “guess what subaru? we’re gonna be friends, I’ve decided” and subaru was like “???” and MB happened and by the end of it Subaru was like “I took everything you said really seriously and I do want to be friends with you..............im not gonna say it out loud tho. let’s just shake hands ok” and I was like AW HECK YEAH!!!!! And then you keep seeing nice little reminders that they’re friends in other games, like in either LP or VC (Im sorry I literally cannot tell these two games apart) they were picking out hair accessories together for Yui, and in the Subaru vs Kou cd, Kou asks Subaru at the end if he had fun, and in LE Kou gave Subaru that pep talk and made Subaru laugh, and Subaru was like “Kou if I’m gonna die then I want you to kill me” and Kou was like “But I don’t want you to die!” and Subaru was like “you dont??? you actually care? about ME???” ITS SO FUCKING GOOD DUDE Subaru needed Kou so badly. Thank god for Kou honestly

KINO:

It was weird like...I was so mad at him during certain routes but I could never actually dislike him. It’s because he’s so dang funny tbh. He literally killed some of my favorite characters but then he would say a funny line and I’d be like “haha, I’m glad kino is here!” like it’s almost scary how charismatic he is towards both the other characters and to me, the player. He asked nicely if he could kill Shu and Shu was like “ok, sure.” Kino is hands down my fav villain because of this. Especially because you can really tell that deep down he wants to be a real member of the Sakamaki family and like he genuinely wants to be friends with people like Yuma and Kou, and he’s got the whole villain-turned-awkward-family-member trope which I LOVE. Like especially in that drama cd where he was like “I never get to go to school so I want to do home ec with you guys! Let’s make donuts!” and Kou was like “ok!!!” and kou tries to be super positive and encouraging the whole time even though Kino was actually secretly plotting to blow the place up. Kino looks like an idiot but he’s a genius tbh

and and and and and and I want him to kiss yuri. I think yuri is super in love w/ kino too, despite the fact that he’s. annoying. thats all I got dhgfdjskj...I love the childhood-friends-to-lovers trope so fuckin much

CARLA:

I was really mad at him for his actions in DF mostly ^^; And tbh it’s really hypocritical because it was a group effort between both of the Tsukinamis, but I ended up loving Shin and hating Carla. Kino also did similar bad stuff to Carla, but I ended up loving him while hating Carla. So, why?

Well here’s fuckin why. Shin and Kino are cute & funny. They have their nice little payoff moments - maybe Shin hurt one of my favorite characters, but then you get to see how bubbly and energetic he gets around his big brother. He was walking one of his wolves around christmas time while wearing a red jacket and a random kid approached him thinking he was santa claus. That’s adorable! For a long time, Carla didn’t have anything like that. And he was a jerk to absolutely everyone, including Shin, who was so dang devoted to him!! Like remember in the DF cds where he was like “hey shin, the plan is we suck her blood until she’s purified from the vampires” and shins like “ok nii-san got it” and he started sucking her blood, exactly like he was ordered to, and then carla came in and STABBED HIM and was like “hey dont touch my property” like SERIOUSLY WHAT THE FUCK CARLA U TOLD HIM TO DO IT IN THE FIRST PLACE!!! IT WAS THE PLAN

And he fucked Ayato up real bad in DF so I was so mad...;; I only recently started forgiving him once diatwitter and LE started up. Diatwitter let us see his cute old grandpa side where he fuckin wanders around amusement parks by himself like some kind of cryptid and kou keeps being like “wait was that carla? what the heck??” and LE gave us some pretty nice stuff like carla being like “ur definitely my brother, shin” so...carla is ok I guess...but then again LE also gave us some bad carla moments like “if ur not actually a founder then u lied to me and im gonna kill u” so basically uh?? carla’s just a jerk I think. I’m warming up to him at a snail’s pace but he’s still a jerk. sucks about the endzeit tho, I hope he’s like permanently ok now

I don’t think I’ve ever been so infuriated on someone else’s behalf before lmao. Shameful doesn’t even begin to cover your behavior. It’s downright appalling. And you know what, if it comes down to it, if either of these members leave permanently because of KELF’s fuckery, at this point I can only think they would both be better off for it in the long run. 

Sungmin has enough of a fanbase to make it on his own. He can enjoy life with his wife and have his career, because somehow these few fans seem to think they have the ability to end it. Really? Your threats are only relevant as long as it affects SM and the rest of SJ. Like do you realize this? Oppa is no longer under your thumb if he leaves. You’re only hurting the group. Both Sungmin and Kangin can and probably would work outside of Suju. Maybe better, without the constraints of idolhood and a horrible fandom dictating their lives to them. Kangin looks happier, more comfortable, and just all around *better* playing the sport he loves than he has in the last several years they’ve all spent trying to appease their fans. Take it from someone who has spent a large (embarrasingly so tbh ) amount of time focused on this one man in particular. Part of me is glad he found something outside the pressures of being a celebrity that brings him that much happiness. Part of me doesn’t want to see him go back to a life I believe was hurting him, even if it means I won’t get to see him as much.

Unlike some, I’m not under the illusion that they all enjoy being idols. It’s been made subtly apparent, at least to me, that some of them have grown to hate it in fact. They do it because it’s what they know, because it’s what earns money, yes, but more importantly because they have this strong sense of loyalty to their fans and to each other to continue on as a unit.

What I’m saying is, they’re still around because they love each other, and they love ELF. To a fucking *fault*, it seems. You’re not punishing either of these members by trying to bully them into leaving, you’re punishing a group of men that bust their ass to give you what you want, and who deserve so much fucking better than what they’re being given right now, especially from the people that are supposed to love and protect them most. 

It’s malicious people like you that will lead to the destruction of Super Junior. And that’s not some vague prediction of an unlikely future scenario. It’s very real. It’s a foreseeable future. When it happens, I hope you remember you’re the reason we came to this point.

summary: idk? two times ash’s parents gave him advice and one time he gave advice?? i started this a long ass time ago so i don’t exactly remember what i was going for tbh

notes: this was drafted december 6, 2017, so i figured i should finish it almost three years later lmao. title is from fake happy by paramore because i was going through an ash + after laughter phase at the time, so credits for that to that.

i. “Don’t blame yourself for what others try to make you.” (2012)

It’s something his dad says on the phone to him when he calls him after Ash stumbles upon an unforgiving account of a fan sign shortly after debut. He’d been so excited to meet fans, Knight’s fans. He’d thought it’d gone well, and he’d left giddy and satisfied, only to discover a fan had perceived him as ungrateful and rude because of a slip of the tongue, the wrong word used as a consequence of his inexperience with the language.

Like he’d been pricked with a needle, all of the air had deflated out of him and the pain of sadness had bubbled at his tear ducts, although he hadn’t let any tears fall from them. The early days of training had been when he’d learned that Seoul had a way of making him feel like he was never going to be good enough, but three years on, and he still isn’t able to please everyone.

To be honest, he wants to talk to his mom, but she’s busy, so he turns to his dad instead. He huddles in the corner of a vocal practice room at the BC Entertainment building as the closest semblance of privacy he has and tries to keep his voice from shaking through the phone as he comes so close to telling his dad he wants to give up already. He’s just debuted, but he’s had enough.

“You know who you are. You wouldn’t let someone telling you the sky is green make you doubt yourself. Don’t doubt yourself now either, and don’t blame yourself for what others try to make you.”

Even eight years later, his dad’s words that day come to mind at times when he reads a scathing comment online. He reminds himself he knows who he is, even as he grows less sure that he does.

ii. “Don’t let anyone else tell you what you deserve.” (2016)

He’s talking to his mom this time, but he notices how the wording is all too familiar.

Everyone hates themselves, he’s decided. Everyone deals with the festering acidic burn of their past actions eating away at the back of their minds and dissolving their souls. First, it eats away at the happiness; the joy so rare it was never meant to last anyway.

After all, if happiness isn’t deserved, it doesn’t stay. That must be why it’s so fleeting for him. 

There are girls and boys that give him butterflies and touch his soul without even trying, but they never last long enough. Butterflies can’t soar when there’s no air to breathe.

There are friends who promise to stand by him no matter what, but at night he morbidly ponders how far he’d have to go to get them to leave like they should - like some have. Humanity has long clung to those who haven’t earned it. How long before he becomes another name lost to time? There will come a time when no one spares a thought for him. Why haven’t they seen it should have already begun?

“I don’t deserve this.” His voice comes out broken.

“What don’t you deserve?”

She has to know. She has to see it, so why is she asking?

“This. Any of this.”

“Now who told you that?”

An unending row of faceless usernames in the comments of articles and social media posts.

Your fans got you here and you betrayed them.

Your members carried you to the top of a mountain and now you’re dragging them back down.

Your parents must be ashamed that their son grew up to be like this.

“Everyone.”

He expects her to refute his point by claiming she’s never told him that. He knows her well, but not well enough apparently because, instead, she hums over the phone and he can almost hear her shaking her head.

“Don’t let anyone else tell you what you deserve. Base your worth on what everyone else tells you it is and you’ll find you’re never sure of it at all.”

He never quite learns how to put her words into practice, but they stay in his mind for a long time after.

iii. “Are you happy?” (2020)

It’s on a post-it note on an album cover passed to him at a fan sign for Lovesick. He looks at the girl in front of him, schooling the alarm on his face into something more quizzical. She looks familiar; he thinks she must come to these often. If he were a better idol, he’d remember every face he ever saw at one of these, but he isn’t a good idol. He never has been.

Years ago, when he was better trained for being what she probably wants him to be, he would have pasted on a smile and given her half-hearted reassurances that he’s never been happier. Instead, he cocks his head and studies her, then turns the question back around on her. “Are you happy?”

“I’m talking to you. That makes me happy.”

Ash almost laughs at how much her answer sounds like what he should be saying, but any humor in the situation is pushed back by the half-heartedness he reads in her response. He sets his pen down and reaches out for her hands on instinct the instant he recognizes the deep dark sadness that sits behind her dark eyes. There’s something in them that’s all too familiar, and the protective shield of idoldom drops a few inches lower between them.

“Emotions are too complex to ever be one thing, aren’t they? Life isn’t always about being happy. I want you to feel a lot of joy in your life, but taking each moment for what it is and understanding it is important, too. And understanding...” Ash ponders the question she’d never asked him, “I’m getting better at it. And I hope you get closer to that every day, too, okay?”

A small, reassuring smile forms on his lips and he holds one of the girl’s hands between his own and squeezes it before returning to the post-it. His pen hovers over the bright paper for a second before he stains it with black ink.

I’m learning how to better handle when I’m not. Let’s both keep learning, okay?

So i’m going to do one of those obnoxious why i love Taylor so much posts, even though I hate putting myself on blast and feel cringey, but it’s almost 2am and she’s still meeting fans in Nashville (at like 5am) so it’s not like she’s going to see it ever.

Anyways I’ve been listening to Taylor’s music since Fearless.  I actually even made a facebook post about it back when I still made obnoxious facebook posts all the time back in 2008 when I first got a Facebook cause I was a freshman in high school.  Because Taylor is 4 years older than me she usually releases music that I need right when it’s relevant to my life.  I was 15 when Fifteen came out and there was a boy I had a crush on who’s name was Drew and honestly her entire work just fit so well into my life.  It was on my ipod and i listened to her song religiously and whenever I would go on walks with my dog she was one of the artists playing.  Fearless is an excellent song to walk out at night and look up at the stars to just in case you were wondering.

Speak Now came out my junior year of high school back when Taylor and the SF Giants coincided with making people in the Bay Area happy in October.  (But tbh i don’t really care about baseball and found the giants hype obnoxious), but the Taylor hype I was all for.  Speak Now was that album it had Dear John which honestly if I was going to pick a favorite it’s def in the top 10 cause as Alana Haim says “Just listened to taylor swifts song “dear john”… That bitch has huge balls.  FUCK YOU JOHN MAYER”.  The part where she says shining like fireworks over your sad empty town does something to my soul and honestly the music and the emotion and ughhhhhh she’s trying to kill me.  The songwriting on the whole album just kills me and the fact that she wrote the whole album by herself just proves that she can do literally anything.  It’s empowering to know how much work she put into that album.  Also junior year of high school was when my older sister left for college and I couldn’t drive myself to school cause I didn’t have my license (tbh i can never spell that word) and I walked home from school a lot and you can tell this was blasting.  Also junior year was when I kind of had a life crisis of what to do for college and life and I just threw myself into the drama department and was a part of 3 plays in one year partially so I would stay after school and my parents could pick me up at the end and partially cause i was so confused by school and my anxiety that being a part of a theater production made me feel like a part of something.  And I literally always and forever want to be a part of any group.

Now for everyone’s favorite album Red.  God people are really not kidding when they say this album is the best.  I mean every single track is that track.  It came out during my first year of college.  I went away to SoCal for college and nobody from my hometown went to my school and I had gone to school with the same people from k-12 and honestly I was so lonely.  My campus was a commuter campus and everyone went home on the weekends and I couldn’t fly home and I didn’t have a car so I joined a sorority cause they did things on weekends, I heart being part of a group and instant friends.  And man was that the best life decision ever.  I joined the most chill group of people and I got my Big in October and on the car ride from Big/Lil reveal over to our dinner my GBig played Everything Has Changed and the whole album and it was just so wonderful and amazing and fit so freaking perfectly with my life.  I had no romantic things happening like ever, but I did go through a major life change and it was just so good.  And then when I went home over thanksgiving and christmas break my best friend also loved the album so we just listened to Red on repeat until i knew every single word and we sat in the car and talked like we had just seen each other yesterday even though it was almost 3 months and it was like I had seen her yesterday.  She’s been my best friend since kindergarten and even if we don’t talk in like 6 months, I see her in person and it’s like she was just in my car the day before talking about whatever.  Anyways this whole album was the key to my first few years of college to get away from the loneliness and the aching of trying to figure out how to live with no parents and it being miserable and magical at the same time.

Then we get to 1989 and my 3rd year of college.  This is when I had finally moved in with my best friends instead of living with randoms and my whole life became so much better because they took care of me and I had a car so i had more freedom and they took me out and I was officially part of their little group and I felt like I actually knew what I was doing with my life for once (did not last long, but it was there for a bit).  And it was just the pop hits album that I needed.  The change from country to pop fit into my life so well and I was so much happier and the album was happy, but you could tell came from a place of knowing about that anxiety and fear, but kept pushing through.  Like all of Taylor’s albums it just fit into my life.  It was the soundtrack of drives to LA and to parties and pregaming and formals and hikes and walks around campus and to class.  It was joined with Haim’s album on a playlist on my phone called HaimSwift and it was played on my 8 hour drive from NorCal to SoCal at least 3 times that year when I drove to school, when I drove back for break and then back to school again.  There’s also a Noah + The Swift for Noah + the Whale and Taylor Swift.  They are both wonderful playlists of my favorite artists.  This is when I found out that Haim the band that I had discovered and fell in love with at Outside Lands the summer prior was going to be touring with Taylor, but unfortunately on in LA when I wasn’t going to be there and not in NorCal at an expensive stadium after I had spent all of my money on pasts and wine in Italy on my study abroad trip.

And then Taylor went on a break, well a longer than 2 year break and in that time I graduated and moved back home and my grandpa passed away and I found a job (not the one I wanted, but you know it paid and I got to stay at home with my parents and my family during a rough time).  And then I applied to the Disney College program and I got accepted in Anaheim and life was better because I got to move back to SoCal where I wanted to be and work at the literal dream location and have housing and see where life would take me.  And so I moved back to SoCal and I started this program and I fell more in love with Disneyland and the people I was in the program with (love being part of a group) and then stayed on after it ended and finally got an apartment and started being a “real adult”.  It was a strange time, but a fun time.  I got to explore the parks, I visited my friends in Chicago, I worked a lot and then from the silence Taylor Swift came back.  I was thrilled about the new album and the experience.  See I have been on tumblr with my blog @megansalphabet(actually the name was meganislameness but that is a little controversial so it got changed) since 2010 my junior year of high school and also when Speak Now came out.  But during the “drought” I actually started following a lot of Taylor Swift blogs cause I was missing her music and her presence and so once the news about rep dropped I was hooked.  From the early days of people fighting about if it was a dragon or a snake and then what kind of snake and through the whole build up and music videos and easter egg hunting and the experience of being in that group and having other people freak out about the same things that I was, was so thrilling and exciting.

And finally on a day when I worked until 2:45 in the morning the album came out.  And so even though I had already pre-ordered a CD, it was not at my apartment yet so I went to Target and bought my magazines and read the lyrics while listening to the album and spent the whole day listening to the album 3 times.  Then once the tour announcement came I decided no more waiting about ya girl is finally gonna see my idol and so I told my mom what i wanted for an early christmas present and I watched the music video and I bought some sweatpants and a sweatshirt and a bag and a keychain and I said this is the era that I’m going to see Taylor Swift live I don’t care who’s going with me, but I am going no matter what.  And I did.  I got a second job, I went to Seattle and I had been working at 2 jobs for almost 2 weeks on the most perfect May day I got off work and drove to Pasadena, picked up my friend and some tacos from the train station and parked at the Rosebowl parking.  We walked a trek to the stadium and got some drinks and found our seats.  We watched Charli XCX and watched the ASL translator translate Boys and we learned how to sign Boys and then we met up with my sister who was also at the concert and got some more drinks and some pretzels because I had a craving and my friend is the best.  And then we went back to our seats and had the most incredible concert experience ever as Taylor Swift serenaded us the whole evening.  Also Selena Gomez and Troye Sivan showed up?!?!??!!?!  Also she sang All To Well acoustic in front of us like we were so close to the B stage and Dancing With Our Hands Tied on the guitar and I just about died like 20 times even though I had already seen a instalive of a girl from the first night of the concert in Glendale and pretty much knew what was going to happen.  But it didn’t matter because this was the concert that i was at next to Taylor and my best friend and oh wow.

And now Lover is fast approaching and I no longer work 2 jobs or at Disneyland and I still don’t really know what I want to do with my life and I’m still probably working too much (say hello to the past 3 sundays that I was supposed to be off and then got a call at 6am asking if I could come in, yay overtime pay? boo 6 days).  But I’m getting closer to figuring out what I want and who knows maybe I’ll go back to school and become a teacher because that’s always kind of been a secret dream of mine, but they get paid so little and grad school is expensive.  But shaping young minds seems so fulfilling and worthwhile.  Join me in my next existential crisis for that debate.

Anyways the point of this is that Taylor has always been there for me through all of the questioning and the confusion and the late night walks with my dog at the creek looking up at the stars and the happy times and the sad times and honestly there is a song for every single mood that i’ve had.  And even though I’m 25 and have never had a romantic relationship (not sure I want one or if i’m just afraid of pursuing one) I’ve always had her songs to stay with me through it all.  And this post is a mess and now it’s 3am and thank goodness I don’t have work tomorrow, but that nap did mess up my sleep schedule and my computer is at 18% and it’s probably time for bed.  Also Taylor if you ever do read this sorry it’s a mess, but I really do appreciate all that you’ve done even if I never get to meet you and tell you that.
