Thoughts about Sakamoto
The guy is known as the loud fellow in a series like Gintama, that says a lot. But beyond being eccentric, he’s known for his huge heart and his love for money the people. He’s like the heart of the Joui 4 group and his bond with them is emotional and inspiring. His optimistic attitude was the light in the dark times of war.
It's interesting to think that Gintoki, Takasugi and Katsura, a group so united (due to their past, their motivations) would let Tatsuma in. But possibly it wasn't that they let him in, but that he simply made his way and, without anyone noticing, he became part of the group and its dynamics. I think Sakamoto's kindness also helped and perhaps, in a way, he reminded them of their sensei.
Tatsuma's compassion extended not only to his companions, but also to his enemies, as demonstrated in the Rakuyo arc flashback. He didn't intend for his arm to be rendered useless, but he accepted it anyway, as did his friends. Everyone understood that his place wasn’t in the war (although he was very talented with the sword), but in other battles.
His true nature came out in Kaientai arc, in which he meets Mutsu. Here he not only manages to change her, but he also manages to free all the slaves from human trafficking, becoming part of his crew and stealing the criminals’ ships. His ability to change people for the better is also demonstrated with Nobu Nobu later on.
However, it should be noted that Sakamoto is one of the least developed characters of the main cast. The little information there was about him was always scattered in different arcs in which he wasn’t the focus (even the Kaientai arc was more about Mutsu). We never saw why he learned swordsmanship or how was the internal process of him becoming disabled (if he wanted he could’ve used his other arm, implying he decided not to).
In both Rakuyo arc and Silver Soul arc he was involved in very similar situations, having to be saved in both cases by Mutsu (and whether we like it or not, that makes him look less capable). He never had any real opportunities to shine, and I feel like his character was only superficially explored, when he’d a lot to give. His only role at the end was to improve Nobu Nobu as a person, which was somewhat useless because he died shortly after.
I think Tatsuma would’ve been the perfect character to develop the sci-fi aspect of Gintama, in the sense of exploring other planets and the alien life that exists on them. He could’ve given odd jobs to the Yorozuya (bad um tsss) and thus justify the alien missions, taking advantage of the space travel in the series and, perhaps, giving more development to the Liberation Army, the Harusame and the Tendoushuu from the start.

Sméagol and the Gift
'Now!' said Sam. 'At last I can deal with you!' He leaped forward with drawn blade ready for battle. But Gollum did not spring. He fell flat upon the ground and whimpered.
'Don't kill us,' he wept. 'Don't hurt us with nassty cruel steel! Let us live, yes, live just a little longer. Lost lost! We're lost. And when Precious goes we'll die, yes, die into the dust.'
Devastated by this. Just a little longer, he begs. Even though his existence is a torment. Even though the will that holds him to life is barely his own anymore. He has long outlived his time but it's such a cruelty that now the only freedom for him is in death. I'm glad Sam didn't kill him but the whole scenario is awful.
When a mortal keeps a ring of power he does not gain more life, he continues, denied natural mortality as the fear of death is amplified and twisted into fear of separation, nothing matters anymore but the keeping, the continuing. In that miserable existence there is no peace, and at its end there is no graceful goodbye to life, there is only dust. Sudden, empty, and final.
It would take murder to spare him that. Or falling with the ring into the fire.
Bilbo let it go in time (did he feel anything when it was destroyed?) Frodo is freed of it now, though the toll it extracted for the separation was at very least a finger. It was too late for Gollum for the price to be anything other than it was, and that's brutal.
If you live long enough, death is no longer the enemy. What Sauron did to Gollum ensured that it would always be the enemy, to be feared and avoided for ever, once time and the ring had fashioned it into the only escape left. Evil.

If you’re still doing the ask game writing thingy, may I humbly offer…
1. Sabine and Ezra [Sabezra, if you’re feeling it] with Chopper
2. Impromptu food fight! 🤪
Thanks!!
FUN FACT! I actually had plans ALREADY for a food fight scene in my Medieval AU (Part One), so I wrote that! For context, Sabine and Ezra are somewhere between 5&7 and 7&9 (i'm still working on the exact ages).
If Mother were here, she would tell Sabine that it would be impolite to smash her whole plate of food over the head of that ugly boy, who was apparently trying to get seconds on dessert before he’d even finished his vegetables by stealing the sweet of the boy next to him.
But Mother wasn’t here, and the boy next to him happened to be Ezra, and Ezra looked like he was going to cry, so Sabine committed the impolite act with unremorseful gusto.
Then, for good measure, she dumped her glass of juice over the stupid boy’s head while he was still too shocked to move.
The sound of shattering dishware hushed the whole créche into utter silence, except for Chopper’s naughty warble of laughter.
Sabine glared down at Ezra, who was looking at her like she was a hero of legends, and put her hands on her hips. She was about to chastise him for just sitting there while his dessert got stolen, when the boy got himself together and made a face at Ezra.
“Are you gonna let a girl fight for you like that?”
Sabine was ready to lunge forward into a good old fistfight at the insult, but Ezra grabbed his own plate of food, smashed it into the bully’s chest, and yelled, “It’s called TEAMWORK, stupid!”
Another moment of shocked silence.
Then the créche erupted into chaos.
Oleg was assaulted with a volley of mashed potatoes from every side, Leia lovingly hurled her vegetables into her brother’s face, Chopper used his grabber arms to pick up a bowl of fruit and fling its contents at whoever was closest, the tiny Yoda baby was screeching with delight, and Sabine climbed up to stand on the table, pulling Ezra with her, then raised their joined hands in the air like a king signaling the start of a cavalry charge and screamed:
“FOOD FIGHT!”

it's honestly fucking sickening that anyone can't put aside their ego, their special little form of self obsession for half a second to allow the nuanced idea that you can speak out against literal fucking genocide without condemning your faith cross their minds. fucking disgusting that I have to see people be completely silent about Palestine until it comes to talking about Jewish students feeling unsafe on campuses and immediately after posting cutesy "Jewish and Proud" graphics with no context like I get it. you're not wrong and I support your perogative to bring attention to these issues and be openly and loudly proud of your identity. but can you stop thinking about yourself for two seconds and imagine what the fucking Palestinians are going through? They. Are. Dying. They are Being Murdered. Horrifically. starved to death or riddled with bullet holes trying to get food for their families. bombed relentlessly. and you're indifferent. you're silent. you're functionally endorsing it. youre more concerned about Being Jewish and Jewish students feeling uncomfortable. all because you're too concerned with yourself and the reflection of yourself you see in your community to even consider anyone outside of it. you'll be complacent and proud of it before you even make an attempt at nuanced thought because you're so fucking defensive and it's fucking pathetic.

Happy pride, the serial killer in the rabbit suit is queer. In all seriousness, I said I was going to write this headcanon awhile ago but I'm just getting around to it. Also: reminder that pansexual is an older term than people often think. Still, William usually defaults to "queer" on the occasion he's openly talking about his orientation.
William realized he was queer/pansexual when he was 15. It's the usual story: he developed an undeniable crush on a boy at school, but didn't pursue it. Obviously, he had grown up in a very unaccepting time and this wasn't something he was open about. His own feelings about it were initially mixed (a result of being raised in such a homophobic society), but by the time he left for university in America, he was neutral on his own queerness. It was simply a fact about himself.
In university he explored his sexuality thoroughly regardless of gender, both casually and in very brief relationships. While he still obviously kept his orientation private from most people, he did find some other members of the community he could talk to openly.
Finding out that William was queer in university wouldn't have been that hard, but afterward he starts being much, much more careful. Without getting into it, I think we all know that he couldn't afford to be outed with the type of business he was wanting to open. He (happily) marries and feels content that there's no way his orientation comes out. He does not and will not tell his wife about his queerness by default.
Then the divorce happens, he's left with custody of three young kids, and dating just isn't his priority, regardless of gender. Still, William absolutely would take the risk of dating a man and even disclosing this to his kids (if they're old enough to keep quiet about it) if he really, really liked someone and intended the relationship to be lifelong.
William generally doesn't care if his kids are queer, but his borderline obsession with keeping them safe (especially post-CC's death) can rear its head if they are openly queer. This is absolutely the part where he drops the bombshell of also being queer (if they don't already know) as a way to prove he has a "fair argument" about safety/homophobia. You might expect his reservation to be about the "optics" of him having a queer kid, but by this point (assuming his kid is coming out as a teen), he is actively caring less and less about that.
NOTE: In verses where William is lowkey obsessed with head over heels for Henry (which, lbr, can be pretty much from university onwards lmao), he is seemingly much more likely to hint at his orientation, although this is only around Henry. Of course, he's more likely to open up about it/flirt if he thinks the feelings are mutual OR if Henry's queer as well (and Will knows). He also just generally talks about Henry in a way that is. . . potentially telling. Still, he'll claim this is just admiration, which is half true.
