Who could the 'Bad Boy' short story be about?
OKAY so I've been thinking about it, and have recently discussed it with a friend who's not on Tumblr. We know that it's going to be about a character's backstory, but very little is known other than that... Anyway here are the candidates we thought of:
Levi - Most people immediately thought it would be about him when they heard the title announcement. We know a fair amount about his backstory already, but No Regrets was not written by Isayama, and I remember he said in an interview that he wanted to tell another story about Levi. The Vol 35 cover reveal sort of cements this possibility for most people. Maybe the story could be about post-war Levi reminiscing on his childhood?
On the off chance that it isn't Levi, and that he was just used as bait on the cover (lol), here are a few other people we thought it might be about...
Kenny - I think I'm the only person who thought there is a small chance it could be about him and his rise to infamy? The title kind of fits. But the possibility is low since he wasn't around in the story for very long and I have a feeling Isayama doesn't want to do anything more with Kenny. I would love to see more Ackerman lore and history though, and I've also always wanted to see more of Kenny and Kuchel's sibling dynamic. But alas, the chances are slim.
Reiner - Barely needs any explanation, he's Isayama's favourite son lol. We do know quite a lot about his childhood already, however.
Jean - Isayama's other son lmao. My friend brought this possibility up, I didn't really consider Jean to be the focus of this extra story at first. Perhaps it could also include an exploration of what he got up to post-canon, and maybe finally clear up the whole ongoing debate about whether or not the man who Mikasa married was him or not.
Hange - They famously do not have a backstory, and the fandom famously wants to see one. But seeing as they've never been stated to be male (they're portrayed as female in the anime and the manga leaves room for interpretation, leading most of the fandom to view them as non-binary, myself included) the title doesn't entirely fit.
What do you guys think? I'd love to hear other people's theories :)

You think its still worth buying eventhough its all in japanese? I guess I could just google translate everything lol ?
I debated this too. In the end I ordered Shingeki Fly because I wasn't convinced there would be an official english version of Volume 35 and I want it for my collection. I really don't care about the other items like the scarf, key, or colored final chapter. I've never been a huge fan of the official colored manga pages.
There's an artbook included as part of Shingeki Fly. I own earlier SnK artbooks, but those were released by the anime studios, not Isayama, so I have no idea what to expect from that. Since artbooks are mostly illustrations I guess it doesn't matter what language it's in.
I dunno anon. I felt like I'd regret not getting it. And with the series ending, it's nice to have something fun to look forward to in a few months. Like many Japanese things, Shingeki Fly is pre-order, so there's no deciding later.
Thanks for the ask!

5, 6, 9, 13, 15, 35 for the snk ask game!
Aaaa thank you!
5. Who was your favorite character originally? Did it change?
I think I liked Sasha and Armin the most when I first watched it. I still love them, but I gained more favs along the way.
6. Who was your least favorite character initially? Did it change?
I can't remember if I hated anybody specifically... I definitely wasn't fond of Annie and... yeah, the final part of manga just reinforced these feelings :)
9. Do you own any AOT Merch?
No. But I have the majority of the Polish edition manga volumes <3.
13. One thing you’d change about the story?
Just one? >:) Hmmm, maybe I would add more context to Ymir the Founder's motivations. I mean... the explanation of SPOILER her being in love with King Fritz SPOILER doesn't sit well with me AT ALL. I would definitely put more emphasis on her love towards her children...
15. Controversial opinion?
1. Gabi doesn't suck, she has an amazing character arc actually.
2. I don't like how Annie doesn't shows any remorse nor face any consequences after her release from the crystal. It's weird, especially compared to how difficult and painful the relationship between the main cast and Reiner (and even Berthold) is. Related: I don't like the endgame of Armin/Annie..... Armin deserves someone better :<
3. Mikasa has basically no character developement after the Female Titan arc. She's a wasted character, whih sucks, cause I absolutely loved her growth up to this point :(
4. No, it wouldn't be a better ending if Eren actually genocided the rest of the world :) (I can't believe it's a controversial opinion, but yeah)
5. Ok, this one may be REALLY controversial: I don't think the manga has antisemitic undertones...
35. Is there a character you really see yourself in? Why?
Not really... Maybe Armin, since I also always try to fix stuff by analysing situation and I'm definitely not the most athletic person ever lmao.

Longing for volume 35 to at least lightly touch on how Levi's doing now that he no longer has to fight. It appears he's telling his own backstory and the cover gives the impression we'll get a glimpse of his post-war life. Has he found a semblance of happiness? Has he found a way to thrive? How often do he and the kids and Onyankopon volunteer? Is he okay? 😭

Isayama could let Mikasa move on from Eren, and he could reveal Christa was a teenage crush for Reiner that he got over, and let them get closer during final arc but he chose to regress both characters because EM sells only for him to ruin that ship with 8 pages and "romcom".
Hello dear! Thank you so much for taking the time to send in a kind Ask & for sharing your honest thoughts on what could have been. I had my grievances too and have mourned the ending, although at times, I have almost allowed hateful/negative vibes clouded my lenses.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Anonie, there are indeed subtle nuances that could have been expanded more between RK in the final arc from ch.124 onwards. Their brotp was rock solid!
For fifteen chapters, there were a lot of misses on a lot of things, but sadly, as a fan, we can only watch in helplessness as Reiner & Mikasa, being the intellectual property of their creator & the publication corporate that owns them treated them as nothing more than an avenue to bring in more revenue & decided that the published ending in volume 34 was the 'right one'. We don't even know what happened to Reiner after. We can assume he died having lived a fulfilling life. Bet you Isayama is gonna write some whacky trivia in his final guidebook on Reiner like he went to take a dump, slipped, bumped his head on his porcelain throne and died instantly. Reiner was 35. Isayama's suffering a post-series JK Rowling syndrome now he will make things much worst everytime he writes. We're not the only ones who believe that RK are the ones who could have been so amazing together for a lot of reasons.
Those 8 pages & a romcom publication only reminded me that by the end of a series, copyright owners only cared more of the direction that benefits the business side of things. EM has always been a prepubescent juggernaut pairing of the series that was never really meant to take off but needed to bait the majority of its readers. But as the characters grew, their perspectives and principles should too, but unfortunately we did not get to see that. In the end, Mikasa fulfills the 'prized waifu' archetype & Reiner, the undignified simp archetype who's hung up on a fleeting teen crush. The only thing that hasn't happened is him 'imprinting' on Historia's daughter like Jacob did with Bella's daughter in Twilight. Now that would be the final icing on the cake. Even Twilight is a better love story between the leads than SnK now.
Trust me, dear, EM pulls more dough, sadly and profits are more important than giving the characters a more dignified ending. Also, dramas & toxic, unhealthy, passive aggressive, oppressive and imbalanced rships are what the market wants to read more now, not about wholesome, respectful characters+pairings. That is where us broke ff writers come in ;____;
I remain with my personal unpopular opinion that Mikasa and Reiner together would have been a more bittersweet, meaningful & dignified ending for the respective characters without completely discarding most of their growth & development throughout the whole series. RK fans would naturally understands this the most. Isym happens to write his brotps better than his otps, but towards the end realizes he needed that otp to set sail for the publisher's business directive: merchandising, special publications & a possible sequel.
Thank you once again for letting me share my sadness and devastation. The series have ended but like I always like to remind myself: FANON IS FOREVER & VALID. That is my honest truth. Also,
REIKASA NEVER DIES 🙈

So I’m going to do a separate post about SNK 131 but I wanted to point something out about how many chapters we most likely have left and what the implications for the final season of SNK will be. It is a lot of numbers and is rather lengthy, but I do think it hints at how many more chapters of SNK we have left. Obviously SPOILERS AHEAD if you haven’t read it or just watch the anime
So if the final season of SNK starts in October it kind of seems like the ending is coming very soon unless they split the final season into 2 parts which doesn’t sit right with me. We must remember that we would’ve been on SNK 132 by now if it wasn’t for Covid-19, so it’s not a stretch to think that maybe Isayama has worked ahead a bit and has given the geniuses at MAPPA a rough draft version of the next 3 to 7 chapters.
Anyways obviously if it is 3 then that means the manga ends in November, and if it’s 7 chapters left, it ends in March. I highly doubt it is March because by that point we would be about 20 episodes deep. To put this in comparison let’s take a look at previous seasons:
Season 1: Covers chapters 1 through 34 in 25 episodes. On average an episode covers about 1.36 chapters in season 1.
Season 2: While it does cover chapters 35-51, do remember it also covers Ymir’s backstory so it actually includes (most of) chapter 89, so 18 chapters. Season 2 was also only 12 episodes. On average an episode covers about 1.5 chapters in season 2.
Season 3: Season 3 was divided into 2 parts, but had a gap between the 2 parts. Part 1 of season 3 only covers chapters 51 to 70 in 12 episodes, so about 1.6 chapters an episode (1.58 if you just wanna say 52 to 70). Part 2 covers chapters 71 to 90. As we mentioned earlier chapter 89 was mostly covered in season 2 except the beginning part and ending part of it. To make this easier, we’ll just say Part 2 covers 19 chapters in 10 episodes. So on average, an episode covers about 1.9 chapters. If you combine both parts, one episode of season 3 covers about 1.7 episodes.
Unfortunately, each season does have a different amount of episodes so it is inconsistent. However, if we divide 90 chapters by 59 episodes, you get about 1.5 chapters covered in an episode of SNK.
So needless to say the final season would cover chapters 91 to whatever the final chapter will be. For the sake of this we’re just going to say there will only be 134 or 138 chapters (So a total of 33 or 34 volumes) with an epilogue attached to the last chapter.
To start that is 44 to 48 chapters to cover. That is more than any other season by at least 10 chapters if not 14. If we go by 1.5 chapters equals 1 episode, that would equate to about 29 to 32 episodes give or take.
As it is right now there would be roughly about 4.6 episodes worth of content is probably not yet drawn if the manga goes to 138 chapters (only 2 episodes if it goes to 134). Now that may not seem like a lot but please do remember that rough estimates suggest each episode takes about 1 to 3 months to animate. Now as I said earlier by the time we got to March we would probably be about 20 episodes in if they don’t cut the season in half.
If we were 20 episodes in by then and had 32 episodes after the manga concludes in March with 138 chapters, it’s not impossible for MAPPA to animate the last few chapters they were waiting on, but it’d be cutting it really close without a delay. If it ends in November then there’s no need to worry about it.
I know that was a long read and had a lot of numbers, but the point of this was to point out that logistics wise, we probably only have 3 chapters left if they don’t split the final season into 2 parts. Obviously, it’s very likely they will split it and in that case we probably do have 7 chapters left. Because if we only have 3 chapters left it feels like it is going to be really rushed, but you can tell that this manga is wrapping up so it’s not out of the realm of possibilities.

Food Wars! Shokugeki no Soma Chapter 312 Review
Tumblr media
The result is in. After multiple backstories and observations, it’s time to declare the winner. The last chapter’s ending was rather odd with a strange phenomenon occurring, but this chapter will unravel it. Before so, the chapter begins with a recap sort of, only in Mana’s point of view. The Demon Lord Soma’s dish was so good, she’s actually stripped by the black magic spell. Well, we do have an ecchi series starring with a Demon Lord, so this is not new to me. What’s new however, is the unlocked potential of Gifting, or more like a fusion.
At first, I thought nothing new was happening with the crowd, losing their clothes, but then I realized that when I said, “losing their clothes,” I meant it literally. Their clothes are destroyed like in foodgasm, only in real-life. I find it funny how Azami explains the phenomenon with a straight face. I mean I suppose it makes sense when Bursting and Gifting collides into a real-life stripping display, but Soma’s friends pretty much nailed my reaction. In short, the crowd are stripped and clothes are shredded away; it’s too good. It’s like what I imagine after fans watched Shingeki no Kyojin Season 3 Part 2 Episode 5; too much awesomeness. But hey, we’re not here to talk about SnK; we’re here for SnS. Bottom line, Soma got this win.
Asashi’s slow defeat is nice and somewhat meaningful. Mana put Asashi in his place despite portraying as the protagonist. The problem is, he’s an Isekai protagonist. It is cool to have an ability to use other abilities based on the respective knife, which is odd but okay; however, it’s not original. I do like the metaphor of every layer display the use of other chefs, but underneath, it’s only hollow. It’s the best way to describe Asashi as a whole; using food as a metaphor no less.
Soma and Asashi have gone through a similar experience; journeying through various chefs. The major difference is the result. Asashi basically stole their skills alas knives, while Soma learned about their skills and create his own style. That’s the true experience. It’s equivalent to plagiarism; what can you learn from it if you are simply copying? Sure, it may be a good writing, but it’s not yours and you’re not evolving. You know, like Deku apparently. Okay, no more references. I don’t know if it’s a metaphor or not, but it is assuring that Soma knows his father is much, much stronger than Asashi. I would like a clarification, but even so, I like the acknowledgement.
Tumblr media
Expected but a good feel moment, Soma wins and defeat a protagonist. Always bet on the Demon Lord. Seriously, we can resume a normal programming with the original cast. However, the chapter is clearly designed to put a closure towards Soma and Asashi’s rivalry, and it’s perfectly fine by me. It does cover some of the familiar aspects that started the series, including the romance.
I’m glad that Soma wasn’t able to learn where the foundation of cooking alas Joichiro’s advice from chapter 1 came from, even when he asked Asashi. This way, he can learn it for himself and the romance will bloom naturally, rather than a hunt. Also, the flashback is nice, added the detail to Joichiro’s rebound. It doesn’t unraveled the time he first met with Tamako, but you can sense his passion was renewed, thanks to her. It’s sweet that he tried to pay her back for saving him. I believe we will get a full scope soon, especially when the next generation of the family will challenge soon. It does explain how and why Asashi wanted to find love, which is kind of charming. It may be an ideal to get better from the power of love, but happiness is the true answer.
I’m not a fan of Asashi, but I can see where his character was going. Much like Game of Thrones Season 8, there are ideas that are actually pretty good; however, whether it’s the pacing, writing or other drawback, it hindered from what could have been a solid execution. Okay, this time, no more references. I do appreciate some of the aspects that were good; the backstory, the care-free personality, and bits of the conclusion. It makes sense to reflect his loneliness and got lost in the shuffle of what he truly wanted.
Joichiro did help to add to the equation of Asashi’s character’s closure. His advice is give it time and it will arrive; he knows because he raised him. It’s simple but it works. Not sure if we will get an epilogue moment with him, but no pun intended, in due time. The chapter ends abruptly in a sense because Mana wasn’t done with Soma just yet. It’s like someone put a quarter in an arcade machine; a new challenger just joined. It is a way to remind fans that it’s not completely over. So for those who were afraid of ending right here due to the magazine’s editor, it still has some life left before closure. Plus, they pulled a double kill on those two gag series, so it’s fine.
Overall, I thought it was a nice chapter that ended the feud. I may not have been a fan due to complications, but it did end on a good note, so I’ll give Tsukuda that. This means it’s Soma versus Erina time. If you haven’t seen it, there’s volume 35 cover, which feature Erina Family. My best guess is volume 36 will feature Soma Family. What could be the one after it? I am pretty curious. Whatever it is next, the endgame is near.
