The chapter 93 poll closed with 1,143 entries. Can I start with a wow? With so many responses, this is going to be a long one.

Loved the diversity in the new characters. Riener is so torn mentally & emotionally. I believe few more pages on the warrior are still needed before getting back to Paradise. I sense a glimpse of hope in escaping a doomed end. somebody will live & achieve freedom. who? hard to tell.

Everybody has different opinions about the plot, but I do not think anyone can argue about the art. Love this manga. Want to see Levi again!

I never imagined I could love these characters even more. Now I do. Bravo Isayama-sensei, I never felt so hyped for this chapter for the longest time!

Stop trying to make these new kids happen, Isayama. It's not going to happen.

My interest in the manga is reaching an all time low with this focus on Marley. And it looks like we'll still be there next month. I'm so done.

I haven't minded these recent chapters, but I haven't felt like I enjoyed them since its a virtually unknown cast. I did however enjoy chapter 93!

I am loving these chapters. I know they're not everyone's favorites - not by a longshot - but I am so happy to have focus on Reiner and the warriors. The viewpoint from Marley is greatly expanding the scope of the world in SNK, and giving us some much needed backstory. Also, I love the interaction of the warrior cadets with the shifters, and it gives us important insight into how RBAM were prior to becoming shifters, and also helps explain their motivation.

WHAT WAS YOUR FAVORITE MOMENT OF THE CHAPTER? (1029 responses)

I’m combining these two questions since it’s the sum of both that gives us the answer. Clearly there was a lot to love in this chapter, but news about our main cast was cited most frequently as favorite. Learning that Eren and Armin have been smashing Marley ships and discovering that the Ackermans were a"byproduct of titan science” were our #1 and #2 favorite chapter moments.

I think these topping the list tells a lot about where our heart are. While the story is interesting, we are desperate for any news of Paradis.

Meeting Pieck and Galliard was #3. For write-in entries, moments with Reiner were the most common including: Reiner being a big brother, Reiner being alive, Reiner being hot , Reiner dialog with Falco, Reiner growing a spine, Reiner’s PTSD and Seeing the "real" Reiner.

A combination of the Ackermans and Eren/Armin's ship smashing - even if temporary, watching the main characters being set up as mysterious, daunting figures (even to the audience who have gotten to know these characters so thoroughly) is a very interesting approach to starting this new arc. It's probably one of the reasons I don't mind the time skip very much.

I think the whole Reiner flashback scenes are completely underrated, and are important in really seeing his character development.

Why is pieck so popular? She had, like, two lines. Mads and Galliard have more characterisation. Is it because she's a cute girl? *sigh*

After this chapter, if I have to choose side, I'll choose Mads Mikklesen (Hannibal) side better; coz with him, at least he can cook with anything flawlessly, artistically and deliciously. Unlike the other side (Eldia), they eat them meat alive, kicking, crying and raw with blood everywhere...so unrefined taste and way of eating =P

I'm in physical pain seeing Reiner like this. Why do I have such an unfortunate taste in favourite characters??

Reiner and the kids hit me right in the eldest sibling feels! I'm an adult with a preteen sister like Gabi and I've really started to sympathize with Reiner more now.

I used to not know if I could hate Reiner or not. I knew there must have been something behind their betrayal, and the last few chapters have cleared this up. Seeing his flashbacks to his friends gave me hope (which I know is a bad thing to have in this series.)

I have to think that seeing Ymir’s fate caused this answer to take a swing towards the negative. 39.3% think Annie will be killed quickly after leaving the crystal.

I don't know if "join the survey corps" is exactly accurate, but I do think she will aid them (mainly because I don't see narrative options for who could take her titan--presumably it would be a woman, it won't be Historia, Sasha or Hange wouldn't make much sense, and Mikasa's whole arc is about learning to live even if she loses her loved ones so I don't see her getting this way out of that.).

I don't think she'll join SC otherwise she will join SC when she was caught. She crystallized herself because she didn't want to join.

Is she guaranteed to come out? I am staring to think the crystalization was a last resort, as in she might as well be dead inside the crystal because she can't get out.

I count myself among those who think “not exactly dead” best sums up Ymir. I see too many missing pieces in her story, including her resemblance to the “devil” to accept her fate, but clearly I’m in the minority.

Armin is brilliant, so let's not downplay what the ocean means to him. It is more than just a vast body of endless salt water, it represents freedom. As a child Armin didn't just dream of seeing the ocean, he dreamed of seeing the world because that is freedom to him. Zophia's comical comment isn't going to change Armin's outlook. Besides he's 19 years old now, his common sense should tell him that people piss in it.

Wow, the question about returning to the original cast has me divided. Of course I want to see them again, but... BOI, what a chapter this has been. So much information given in such a natural way (unlike 91's f***ing convenient amnesia). Reiner's mental state and what's going on in his head is also enough to make me interested in more Marley episodes. It's natural people want to go back to Paradis, though, it's been more than half a year without seeing much of the original cast.

Stick with the new guys! I really want to see more of them. I trust Isayama can pull this off.

Please god, no more Levi Man Pain hour. Give me more of this sweet warrior development and shades of grey. Many chapters without Levi continue to be good chapters.

I like the idea of a full Marley volume. I think that by the end of it we will meet up with the Paradis crew again.

Seeing even a glimpse of the main cast was enough to get me nostalgic. I'm all for introducing new characters but this late in the series, I want to be with the characters I've already grown to love.

I love that we are finally getting a view of what the other side is like and I would have loved to see more if it weren't for the time-skip. I am at the point where I'm desperate to know what happened to our main crew and how much things have changed for them.

Everyone needs to chill. My faves may be in the main cast, but I've waited forever to get POV chapters dedicated to the warrior side.

Colt's comment about being honored to have been there while Zeke spoke his mind reminded me of Marco and his motivation for wanting to join the MPs for some reason. I can't unsee this comparison now.

I found it interesting that not only does Zeke have the trust of the Marley government but we also saw another hint that he has a secret agenda. Reiner being protective of the kids was heart-warming! A little more info about the Ackermans being a result of Titan blood science made my inner scientist go beserk with joy! At last we were introduced to Galliard and Pieck in human form.

Lost all faith in Isayama's writing skills after killing Ymir like that...like stop with the years of character development if you will throw it away like that, with just one panel of her sad gay freckled face. Also Mikasa and Levi going captain america yo! nice

I am intrigued by the fact that Marley's titans are beginning to become less powerful in the face of more advanced technology and I'm interested in seeing where the story goes from there.

I would love to free the shifters from the curse. Reiner deserves better, Ymir should be alive... Oh, and I love Colt's drunk side. Hannes would be proud.

I can't help but feel uneasy about the transfer of Marley's Titan Powers. There's been too much time put into these new warriors. They have to play some part in this story, but having Reiner get killed off by just handing over his life, after all this shit he's been through and all the unfinished business he has with the main cast doesn't feel right. I don't want Reiner to go out quietly.

I love this "outside world" arc, we learned a lot of stuff. It's also a hot mess currently, but that's what the series have been and that's why I fucking love it. Not everyone might be a fan of the shifting (hhehe) point of view, but I love how this portrays them as a "good" side, with Paradise being the "bad" side. Like there is no cliche of just black and white, but a hell lot of greys. It reminds me of when Bertholdt screamed "Who do you think actually wants to kill people!?" and "Someone will have to stain their hands with blood!" I'm getting the feeling that Isayama is building up characterization for these new characters, make us care for them (to be honest, I hope they get enough screentime for that), and sympathize them later on. Heck, we'd probably feel bad for them too when all hell breaks loose, and we readers will probably feel conflicted on who to root for. I can see that happening.

I like the Warriors a lot more than I thought I would, and even though I'm dying to get back to the main crew I’ve really enjoyed these chapters and am surprised by how much these new guys are growing on me. I think the pacing will feel a lot better on a reread, it's just hard when you read it monthly.

Reiner, you better get some goddamn agency and protect your pack of children. It may be too late for you, but they can still make it out of this!

This chapter bored me to death. I mean, I understand that this chapter was full of important information and is a pre cooking for the real cooking show but I just couldn't enjoy it. The last 2 chapters have been exhausting to read to the point that it's physically painful. I know a lot of people already loves Gabi and Falco and I know I'm gonna get so much hate for this, but I just couldn't bring myself to get invested or even so much as to like them as I have with the original characters. I mean, I do sympathize them for what they go through and I'm glad we see that because now I have a better grasp of how RBA's childhood was like but everytime they were on, or just the entirety of the last 2 chapters I've been looking for Armin, Eren, Mikasa, Sasha, Jean... And especially since Ymir died this chapter, I felt empty of her death like, I wasn't satisfied of it. I wasn't even convinced. It was like when RB said they were the CT and AT but that was exciting and this was.. heartbreaking. Long story short, this chapter and the previous chapter made me not want to read snk...

I got hyped again! This chapter was by all means, I won't say better or more important, because a story naturally needs descriptive parts like 91 & 92, but more enjoyable. This mainly is due to it building connections between the two sides we have seen in the rest of the series, for example with the Ackermans being revealed as a subproduct of titan science, thus creating suspense. The plot itself, standing still in 91 & 92, starts to move on at least a bit, and indicates a lot of progression for next chapters as well as creating a foundation for new theories and headcanons about the snk world. I personally suspect that, since the Ackermans were supporting the Eldians way before Marley oppressed them and established a titan science program, titan science, a result being the Ackermans, was practiced in Eldia as well. This could mean that Ymir Fritz's encounter with the devil was actually a metaphoric paraphrasing of a scientific breakthrough, which will lead to us hopefully getting a more realistic description of how the titans were created. But back to the chapter. Character wise, I began to sympathize with the warrior kids a lot more as they gained more depth, and Reiner made my heart break in even more pieces than last month. I just feel so sorry for him! But fortunately, Pieck could fix the damage with her beauty. I don't really like Galliard that much but maybe that'll change...let's see! As for Ymir, I sure felt sorry for her, but even though I truly adore her character and look up to her a lot, I didn't really feel that bad about her dying, unlike the majority of the Tumblr community. But that's not because I don't want her to be happy or anything, it's just that Snk is and stays a dark fantasy and drama series where death is a totally normal thing. I actually wouldn't like it if everyone just magically survived, because the story would feel less real and mature to me. And I think that she's got way more character closure than some others, and last but not least we still have her memories. So all in all, this has been a great chapter, I got all my hopes back for the final arc and I can't wait for June to arrive. (This is like waaaaay to long for a poll comment but well....)

oh so no matter what the results are never accurate wow i thought cheating would be harder in these polls and as usual it's always erwin and eren's fans who cheat -_- in that case characters who deserve to get into the top 5 like armin and reiner would probably not make it.. sighs

But the official poll is hard to rig.

It’s not a poll where you can simply select someone and press submit. The whole voting session extended on two months, covering two BSM issues. The process is a lot more tedious, hence why it’s more accurate than online polls:

Buy a copy of the magazine

Send a card with the character you’re voting for, with your name and your coordinates, and the BSM stamp from the magazine

Rince and repeat with next month’s issue

That’s why we can vote at least twice for the same character. In order to get more votes, you have to use a combination of money and networking: buying more copies of the same issue and asking friends or family members who don’t read the magazine to vote for your fave. I don’t know how extensively checked each vote is (Ie. looking for discrepancies between addresses), but in the best case, you can buy as many copies as you can afford and just make up family members and look for valid addresses on Google Maps. In this case, money alone should suffice.

Anybody in the world can vote, but foreigners are limited by the shipping costs, the delivery time, and the postal services’ cost. I could’ve voted, but wasting something like 30€ in total for a postcard taking approximately 4 weeks to make it to it’s destination point simply isn’t worth it.

People who are more likely to swell the votes for their faves are shippers, who tend to be hardcore fans in general. The popularity trend can be easily predicted by the sales on each character’s merch. The faster a piece of merch sells out and the higher the resell value is, the more popular a character is. That’s why Levi always figures at the top by a significant margin. Levi fans are the ones who are the most likely to vote several times. The most popular ships in Japan are Levi ships (ereri, eruri, levihan) after all.

I think Reiner could level up his game, considering everything that happened in 2017: Marley arc (him getting a lot of focus), Season 2 of anime (covers the Clash of Titans arc), reibert being one of the most popular ships around (reibert merch sells out in minutes)...

Meanwhile Armin... Armin’s more appreciated from casuals. I think his popularity will stagnate because he hasn’t done anything offputting yet. The easiest way to judge is to wait for November 3rd and see how many fanarts Armin is going to get in the 10 first minutes. One thing is clear, Armin never sold well in merch: you have the infamous EML merch trio, and when Armin merch gets sold, it has low resale value. I even think his character song didn’t sell well? Which is a shame because I like Marina Inoue’s voice. Him being shipped with Jean saves his popularity at least. Jeanmin is quite popular but not as big as the other ships, so that can save him a bit.

SnK Merch Guide: How to Purchase Bessatsu Shonen January 2018 (SnK Chapter 100) as an International Fan

Expected Release Date: Early December 2017 Retail Price in Japan: Around 600 Yen

With a milestone chapter coming up in this issue, alongside a cover featuring the winner(s) of the latest character popularity poll, the poll results, as well as serious hints of an epic showdown between old and new characters within the story itself - this particular magazine will be a must-get for any SnK fan! Hence, here is an early guide to various ways of obtaining Bessatsu Shonen if you do not live in Japan!

Option 1: Amazon Japan’s English Version (When the actual sales page for this Bessatsu issue is public, I will also link it directly here Update: direct link added!)

The most straightforward way to buy any Japanese magazine, Amazon Japan’s English version can help immensely with signing up for an account and overall navigation throughout the site. The site’s Global Priority Shipping (Automatically applied during checkout if it detects that you have an international address as your primary) ships to all these countries at fairly reasonable prices (And the packages always arrive within two days to the US!). The price of the actual magazine will also be at a slight discount from its original price in Japan - but it’s the international shipping that will comprise the bulk of the total cost.

If it’s your first time buying from Amazon Japan, I recommend getting additional items to take advantage of combined shipping. But do note: while most magazines and manga on the site can be shipped overseas, a lot of general anime merch cannot be (The individual sales pages will indicate the possibility).

Option 2: YesAsia (US & Canada) / YesAsia Global (Outside of US & Canada) (I’ve linked directly to the search results pages for Bessatsu Shonen above)

YesAsia is in English by default and typically stocks the past few issues of Japanese magazines, including Bessatsu Shonen. The listed prices are more expensive than that of Amazon Japan, but the site also offers free standard service shipping (Slower than Amazon JP) for any purchase over $39 to most countries (US, Canada, and others listed here).

Once a new Bessatsu Shonen issue is released, Buy It Now auctions for said issue will start to surface on the site. So unlike the other two buying options, you do have to wait until actual release date to find the magazine here. Prices and shipping options/costs will vary depending on your location and the seller!

CD Japan, run by Japan’s Neowing Corporation, is another dependable site for Japanese anime/manga merch. Like Amazon Japan and YesAsia, its registration and ordering processes are straightforward, and like Amazon Japan it also uses DHL Global Priority ships to many international countries swiftly. Your shipping costs will once again be more than the magazine itself!

The only thing about CDJapan is that its stock tends to run out faster, so order sooner rather than later!

Amazon US “stocks” Bessatsu Shonen more frivolously through its affiliate sellers, and issues tend to pop up inconsistently after the release date. With the close of Season 2 coming up, we wanted to open up a new blog for Attack on Titan polls! Since there hasn’t been a character popularity poll run since 2015 for the tumblr fandom, we thought this would be a good opportunity to bring one back.

Has the anime changed your perspectives on certain characters? What about current events in the manga? We’d love to see how developments in both mediums have potentially changed which characters we love the most!

As the @snk-popularity-poll did when they ran the 2015 poll, we will also be taking votes by ask or submissions only. This way we can ensure no one is spamming the vote and everything is accounted for and honest.

Votes submitted as submissions will be published - use this as an opportunity to gush about your faves if you so choose!

We would also like to remain anonymous so as to avoid perceptions of bias. This is a 100% neutral zone without any judgement or bias. We just want to see how you guys feel about the series, characters, and so on!

2017 Tumblr Character Popularity Poll i guess

sup so here is my choice ^^ i chose these five because all five of them seem the most realistic and 3 dimensional characters to me.

Armin

Mikasa

so beginning with Eren; he has been my favorite character in SNK ever since i got into the series, its been about four years and i am still up his ass love him. he is someone who i somewhat identify with yet aspire to be as well. sounds dumb probably but yeah. his mental strength is something i find in real people too very admirable, as well as his persistence and the fact that he fights until the end even if it the odds arent working in his favor at all. he’s not like ‘why should i keep going if the chance of this working out is so thin’, no, he’s all 'i can work this out with whatever little chance is left’ - this boy is a hurricane and such a vibrant, dynamic character - it gives me goosbumps sometimes. i suffered with him throughout his developement and i just like him so much because we started out so similar; we were both impulsive, emotional kids and didnt think before saying smth or acting. i could understand eren from the start. the way he grew up though and is still growing gives me so much hope for myself too - he’s a good learner, he can control his emotions better and he’s actually a rly clever kid in my opinion. people used to look down on him for seemingly being 'all talk but not acting’ and now look up to him - in my opinion not only because he’s humanities hope but because he is such a great, strong person. he radiates that power and its just fucking amazing. this kid is so dear to me and out of all the fictional characters outta books/movies/anime/mangas he has a special spot in my heart. he inspires me and kicks my ass whenever im in the gym or in a mentally challenging situation, like a little voice in the back of my head. sounds stupid but this rly works.

now Annie; i have a thing for ambigious characters. i feel like in our society people tend to see things in black and white and are quick to judge wether or not something or someone for that matter is good or bad. thats just such bullshit and annoys me so much sometimes. ive met people who were so goody goody that it made me hate them. they just didnt want to see that they’ve made bad decisions, have said bad things too because it would be oh so damaging for their reputation. fuck that. nothings just bad or just good. trying to fit into this good role has been haunting me for a while until i realized that people never really show you all their faces. Annie seems like the villain, the asshole, the one responsible for death and misery but does anyone ever think about the fact that she doesnt want to do so? she sure can choose what she does - but that is just hard when certain opinions, patterns etc. have been drilled into your brain ever since you were a child. she is conflicted, she really is. i believe that she is a good person, i truly do. all she wants is to reach her goals and she’s been 'brainwashed’ into doing things in the process that are just horrible and she knows what is considered bad and good nontheless. characters like her are so interesting.

besides that, Annie is a truly strong person. mentally and physically. her determination is so admirable and strong and as a side effect of her being very goal oriented she also dropped giving a damn about how people think she’s a bad person. i feel like she knows that she is not. and that she understands what she does and did is wrong but damn it, she just wants to go home. shes not cold, she just seems really really tired of the weight on her shoulders that is pushing her down. she knows what matters and shows emotions in moments that are important. i love how she can filter trivial shit from the things that matter. and whenever she did show emotions it was so heart warming or relieving for me to see. when she cried because she couldnt catch eren, when she smiled when he showed his respect and admiration towards her by using her fighting techniques or when she laughed when she finally revealed that she was the female titan. my ereannie shipper heart is showing i guess lmao

Ymir; marry me!! is another ambigious character. its clear as hell that she doesnt care about how people see her and i feel like she herself doesnt try to label herself as good or bad anyway. i think without that knowledge she can work things out just fine and thats just so freaking amazing and admirable. such labels aren’t something we should focus on too much and we should just focus on being - then great things come naturally imo.

she, too, knows what matters and knows what doesnt. not only is she super careless and charming /swoons/ with her sassiness (at least imo), shes also incredibly good at reading people and is not afraid to call someones bullshit out. i’ve always liked her a lot and her backstory made her even more interesting. ymir is so clever and a knows how to survive.

a big part of her is also her love for historia and that is another thing i love about her. she openly cares for her and that shows that shes not some arrogant rotten person. she can make anyting work if its for historia. this shows a huge admirable dedication and at first i could hardly imagine her having so much love for someone and caring for someone else besides herself. in her flashback it seemed like she was a rather timid ish kid? now look at the amazing woman she is now - im so so stunned and have a lot of respect for her. another truly great and 3 dimensional character.

fourth is Armin; a lot of my friends dont like him because hes such a 'basic character’ - they mean that theres apparently always a physically weak and 'just’ intelligent character in any story. Armin is more than that. these things sure are true - but hes also a mentally strong person and a good friend. he gives everyone a chance and even felt bad for when he tricked annie, the enemy!, in the episode/chapter where him, eren and mikasa wanted her to lead them through some underground tunnel and she refused. armin is so good natured yet is not afraid to speak the harsh truth (when he called reiner and berthold out for leaving annie behind when they tried to kidnap eren and told them how she gets tortured) or act violently when its really, really necessary (like when he shot the guy who attacked jean on the carriage). he has stupidly good intuition and i admire that so much. he got his shit together and that is in my opinion worth much more than physical strength.

lastly Mikasa; i used to dislike/rather ignore her when i got into SNK. but years ago, i just scratched on the surface of SNK and its characters, last year i started reading the manga though and now that season two is animated i can say that i rly love her. at first i thought of her as another 'basic’ character - physically strong but emotionless to keep up some weird badass image. but she really is badass. especially in the manga shes strong in many ways.

mentally, physically - she not only cares about eren, as i at first thought, she cares about many and she knows how to protect them. she has a clear mind and has her priorities set straight. and shes sure as hell not emotionless - she is one of the characters who had felt the most emotions possible imo and coped with a lot of pain. she coped with so much. what kind of badass deals two times with the loss of their parents and doesnt think 'i dont want to do this anymore’? mikasa ackerman is that kinda badass. ofc shed turn out a little distant, rather cold. but she could have become a cry baby, she could have just given up - but she never did. not even when she thought that eren has been eaten by a titan. like, if her entire universe would seriously only revolve around eren she would have had this stupid thought 'if hes dead then i wanna be with him’ but she did not choose that path. she is so so so powerful, fuck im in awe because of her all the damn time, as im writing this im already about to tear up because shes just amazing. she knows pain so well, yet she doesnt allow it to destroy her.

and, same as with annie, i cheerish the moments she smiled, cried and comforted armin or eren. i even cheerished the moment she snapped when she thought eren was dead and became so reckless because it just made her so much more human in my eyes.
