Digimon Card Template->
Hey guys, I finally finished the templates! A few words to read before using, and more words under the cut if you will. I'd love to see any and all cards you create, so feel free to leave me an ask or DM! Also if you feel like supporting me a little, feel free to stop by my ko-fi->
First off, all fonts you need for the template are in the "Card Template Fonts" rar file. Remember to install them first before opening the files. Second, I recommend working with the PSD file in Photoshop, if you can. It has more and easier customization. If you use CSP, do use the CSP files. The PSD Text layers don't work in CSP, as well as certain other settings. I did my best to adapt the file to CSP, and it should work fine!
The Files have "HELP" layers in certain folders, I recommend reading them! Some of the Information I will repeat under the cut.
HAVE FUN! I wanna see lotta cards!
Okay, below the cut I'll leave some notes on how the Digimon cards are designed, as of the num <03> era at least.
Digimon cards have seven different colors. Red, Blue, Green, Yellow, Black, Purple, and White. White cards are rare and reserved for special Digimon/Tamers, and usually don't interact with other colors. For easier reading, Yellow and White cards have black text in their colors, instead of the usual white text. On multicolored cards, card including Yellow (or white in theory) have white text with a black outline. (before <03> if Yellow was the first color, the text was black with white outline instead, but they unified it with the update) The color on the left is considered the first color. Since the design update, the Card color is displayed in a color wheel around the Play cost. The digivolution cost bubble also recieved a color wheel, as well as the buble being split into the differen colors. Imagining it like a clock, the top color is the first, and then circling clockwise. Digi-Egg, or Lv.2 Digimon are always single color.
[tricolored cards have been introduced just recently and super rare. use sparingly]
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Now to the Effects. The main effect is in white color with a black outline (also outlines on the keywords), while the Inherited Effect doesn't have outlines (unless it's a Yellow double color). If the Digimon has no Inherited Effect, there will be a small dash in the box.
Only white cards have black text in their main effect.
The effect text will start in the lower bottom of the image, not all the way at the bottom, and go down from there. If the Effect is too long it will move up.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Besides the regular evolution requirements, Digimon may have special "Digivolve" rules in their effect. This can make an evolution from a specific digimon cheaper, allow X Antibody Digimon to evolve from their normal counterparts, serve to overlook color requirements, or to allow evolution from certain traits, etc.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Some Digimon may also have an extra "Rule" in the bottom corner.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ace Digimon will always have [Hand][Counter]<Blast Digivolve> effects. So far, they all had no inherited effects. They also have a significantly cheaper play cost than comparable Digimon, but in turn have the Overflow mechanic. EX6 introduced Blast DNA Digivolution, which specifies the required Digimon by name, and not just Level and color.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Lv.6 Digimon usually don't have inherited Effects, some might though, if they were made with Lv.7 evolution in mind. Furthermore Lv.6 Digimon pop out of their frame, even on the normal arts.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Now Tamers originally had neither traits, nor inheritence effects. But certain Tamers now do! Tamers with Mind Link effects, or the kids from Frontier for example, will have Inherited Effects.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Option cards have a grey backdrop for their effects, and the effect text is black. This black effect text carries over to full/alt arts, regardless of color. The have a (use) cost instead of a play cost. They can also have traits or rules, but it is rare.

I wish Spike Chunsoft would just go full "Persona" with Danganronpa and milk it with tons of spinoffs.
I'd be there for every goddamn one of them on DAY ONE, you know. Pick your genre! The minute they figured out how to make a decent third-person DR action game with Ultra Despair Girls, that should've opened the floodgates wide IMO. In fact, if you take any given Persona spinoff, I can tell you how easily/naturally they could develop (and I could get super-hyped for) a Danganronpa equivalent.
Danganronpa Arena is SO obvious. It's the MOST obvious spinoff, and it has been sitting there waiting to be creating for seven goddamn years now. Ever since Kodaka said he wants a DR fighting game. Hey, remember that official DR3 Staff Book art that showed Nanami dreaming about it? Many of us have shared fan ideas for the story and/or for character moves. COME ON, y'all. What's the holdup?? DO IT! DO IT NOW!
Danganronpa: Dancing? FUCK YAS. I mean, there's already some wicked dance remixes of the game soundtracks in that Crypt of the Necrodancer DR content, so why the hell not?? And I recall that @dreamrlu did some great fanart (1) for how the (2) V3 crew could dress (3).
Danganronpa Q, a dungeon crawler? Despair Dungeon already exists, so it's COMPLETELY NATURAL. It's just a higher-quality production of that same concept! And if you haven't seen that fanmade version of the first "Persona Q" opening where it's the casts of DR1 and DR2 meeting up? It's AMAZING.
youtube
Danganronpa Tactica? Imagine leading squads from the Future Foundation (including DR1 and DR3 cast members) in missions against remaining Remnants of Despair. I've been playing a lot of tactical RPGs lately, and there's a lot of room to tell a ton of story in this format... plus it's not like you even have to make complex graphics to make it work, so SC doesn't have to worry about struggling with 3D renders if they don't want to. Just consider how Digimon Survive pulled this off with 2D sprite art!
Danganronpa Strikers is, uh, maybe the hardest to justify — but if you set it in the virtual world, that could make it easy! Since Danganronpa S already took place entirely in VR and contained a load of combat encounters, why the hell not do a similar setup for an action game? And if you prefer to keep in the real world, there are still a number of characters I could easily justify making playable in such a scenario — Genocide(r), Sakura, Asahina, Mondo, Nekomaru, Peko, Akane, Great Gozu, Seiko, Munakata, Maki, Gonta, etc. I can even picture some more-unlikely candidates such as Kimura slotting into the roster. I don't even like musou games that much, but ofc I'd play the SHIT out of this one.
Look: I know I'm an insatiable fan who just wants more precious content with these characters. But you can't convince me that these things wouldn't also SELL. The brand reached new heights of awareness and sales with V3, and they haven't really capitalized on that at all aside from giving us "Danganronpa S." We haven't even gotten a new anime since DR3, FFS! And I'm confident that any one of the ideas listed above would sell far better than a weird digital board game with RPG combat set inside VR, frankly. :P

So to put this in perspective. I was about 5-7 when The Burned Furs was happening. I literally went to see Pokemon: The First Movie IN THEATERS, while this was going on.
By the time I was using the olde internet was about 10 or so. My family had a home computer system with Windows 98 and kept things upgraded over the years due to my dad needing access to "the internet" for work. I was left alone a lot as a kid (busy father/neglectful mother) and this was around the time of "CHECK OUT WWW.POKEMON.COM FOR MORE DETAILS" kind of time of the early internet + advertising. Like I was still using AOL dial-up for a lot of my original internet deep dives. Then, when things like Neopets took off, I was using the computer religiously. I stayed (mostly) on kid-safe spaces, but of course, the internet was, and is, the internet and I eventually branched out. I wanna say I was looking up pictures of Inuyasha to print out and use as art reference, as well as Digimon and Wolf's Rain. I know one of the earliest pieces of furry media was Renamon porn around 2002-2004, as well as a lot of art by Dark Natasha through her website.
At some point around 2005-2006 I stumbled onto VLC. I remember because I saw some furry art by an artist and really liked his style and was emulating it for a bit. At this time, furry art was still ruled by many people emulating Animalympics (which I only knew of because my family owned one of the first official releases of the VHS copies), as well as Osamu Tezuka's deep stylistic influence on the furry community in the 80-90s. The Disney influence from TLK hadn't fully seeped into the community at that point, and, being a little anime kid, I was genuinely fascinated with the art style. One of the first pieces of art I posted online was something I drew inspired by some furry fox art I saw on VLC, but then hyperfixated more into the general "I wanna draw a cool edgy anime wolf" kind of thing.
My first OC, Jade Shadowblood (lol) I made when I was about 9-10. I still own the sketchbook where I first drew her. This was sometime around 2001-2002. She was an Inuyasha self-insert character and intended to be "me" if I was in Inuyasha. I always refereed to her as "this is me if I was a wolf demon" to my friends at the time when I showed them my art in elementary school. I got the idea to make more "wolf demons" of my friends when they asked me if I could draw them as wolves at school. I took a lot of design inspo from Neopets/Neopets Adoptables at the time, and a lot of my original OCs were in fact, based off of kids who were my friends at the time (I have all of these original pieces still saved to this day).
Anyway, I joined DeviantArt in 2006 when I was 12-13 under the handle ShroudofShadows. I heard the name on Xiolin Showdown and thought it sounded cool for an internet username. This was my first real venture into social media. I scanned in and posted some of my old art, and continued making art inspired by Inuyasha, Wolf's Rain, Neopets, etc. It wasn't until about 2007 or so when I shared Jade on DA that one of my friends asked me "is this your fursona?" and I was like "what's a fursona?" and well, here we are I guess?
My first webcomic was started at this time, I found out about other people making wolf comics with their characters and I was like "I wanna do that too". The OG Wolf Song was heavily inspired by Inuyasha/Wolf's Rain, but because I also liked Don Bluth, an inspiration Kay Fedewa also used for her art, I got lumped in as "copying" Kay Fedewa because our styles were similar.
Kay got started with The Blackblood Alliance around the same time I did, and did influence about 5 or so of the original pages. Even though I knew my characters and plot were different and eventually would deviate from looking similar to her art, I just leaned into it since people were accusing me of copying her when we just happened to be posting around the same time. I had no idea who she was prior to people comparing me to her.
Wolf Song, ran for several years, but due to being bullies by TheRoguez/RayJ and her band fo merry fuckwads who made it their goal to "remove" wolf comics off of deviantart (the great sparkledog cleanse) and people like MirrorZan and BlueShineWolf having some very public drama in the wolf comic community, I eventually stopped working on my comic to do a big re-write. I wanted to FINALLY get out from under the "oh you're just copying these people" bullshit because I was like "I literally don't know who this is until you name dropped them". I stayed in my lane with Wolf Song and didn't branch out too much to other wolf comic artists since we were all getting harassed at this point. I didn't really know who to trust outside of the friends I had made in my early DA days.
By 17, I was applying for colleges and didn't have time to work on Wolf Song anymore. This was also around the time the other Wolf Song, the one on youtube, began taking off more and my comic was buried under the popularity. I figured "eh ok" and dropped the project while focusing on school.
I never felt like I really fit in with any one place/group. I had my own space and the fans of my comic which made me happy, so I avoided social media/fandom stuff for a few years. I was always on the fringes of the furry fandom, but due to coming across some really racist proboards forums about the furry fandom when I finally looked into it and saw "N*ggers can't be furry/therian/otherkin", I was like "ok fuck you too" and never wanted to participate in the fandom.

The English dub for the Digimon Adventure 2020 reboot just dropped
Tumblr media
[Tweet]
The English dub cast for the 8 kids and the Digimon:
Tai Kamiya: Zeno Robinson
Matt Ishida: AJ Beckles
Sora Takenouchi: Cherami Leigh
Izzy Izumi: Anne Yatco
Mim Tachikawa: Suzie Yeung
Joe Kido: Daman Mills
T.K. Takaishi: Corina Boettger
Kari Kamiya: Ryan Bartley

Gabumon: Dave B. Mitchell
Biyomon: Tara Sands
Tentomon: Christopher Swindle
Palmon: Corina Boettger
Gomamon: Alex Cazares
Patamon: Lizzie Freeman
Gatomon: Erine Yvette
Notable roles the voice actors are known for (in my opinion):
Zeno Robinson as "Tai":
My main take-away here is "Hunter" from The Owl House (since I just binged that and the trauma is real) and "Go" from Pokémon Journey's, but he already did a lot of amazing things and I love him.
AJ Beckles as "Matt":
Most notably for me was "Hop" from Pokémon Journey's - and generally the fact that we will hear a loooot of recent Pokémon voices.
Cherami Leigh as Sora:
Okay, her list is INSANELY long and I absolutely cannot wait to listen to her, this is some pretty amazing stuff we have right here and she deserves it:
"Asuna" from Sword Art Online
"Sailor Venus/Minako Aino" from Sailor Moon Viz Dub/Crystal/Eternal/Cosmos (MORE SAILOR MOON CONNECTIONS!!!)
"Chloe" from Pokémon Journey's
"Michiru" from Brand New Animal
"Miyo Sasaki" from "A Whisker Away" (which is amazing, since Natsuki Hanae plays her love interest in Japanese)
"Alina Grey" from Magia Record
"Tome Kurata" from Mob Psycho 100
"Sarada Uchiha" from Boruto
MOST INTERESTINGLY: "Maki Himekawa" AND "Piyomon" in Digimon Adventure Tri, so we have old ties after all!
Anne Yatco as "Izzy":
Gaaaaaah, I reallly cannot wait to listen to her. Again, happy that we got a voice actress for him again and that she did a fair share of female AND also boyish roles (even though I am not really familiar with the latter).
"Kinemi Miki" from Blue Period
"Nobara Kugisaki" from Jujutsu Kaisen
"Sabine Cheng" from Miraculous Ladybug
Suzie Yeung as Mimi:
She actually did a lot, I just didn't KNOW a lot...
"Makima" from Chainsaw Man
Young "Kyou Soma" from the Fruits Basket reboot
Daman Mills as "Joe":
He also did a lot I didn't know, but again, reeeeeally exciting stuff.
"Yotasuke Takahashi" in Blue Period
"Kaworu Nagisa" in the Neon Genesis Evangelion Rebuild series (that made me scream again, since they gave him Yamato's VA's in German)
"N" in Pokémon Masters (also other minor roles in Pokémon, not surprising)
Corina Boettger as "T.K." AND Palmon:
"Tatsumaki" from One Punch Man
"Sailor Tin Nyanko" from Sailor Moon Stars
"Meiyui Chun" from Magia Record
Ryan Bartley as "Kari":
"Ram" from Re:Zero
"Allister" from Pokémon Journey's
"Sana Futaba" from Magia Record
"Candice" and "Corinna" from Pokémon Masters
"Angela" from Carole & Tuesday
"Takane Tsubomi" from Mob Psycho 100
"Yusa / Misa" from Charlotte
"Rei Ayanami" from the Neon Genesis Evangelion re-dub (THIS CAUGHT ME OFF GUARD THE MOST)

Otogi with 1, 7 and 12?
Thank you for asking! Answers are for this post and I'm still taking asks if anyone else is interested! I've already answered one for Kaiba and would be happy to talk about my other faves. :)
I am going to call him Duke in this post if you don't mind. I'm dub trash and that's his name to me.
1. What Pokemon would you compare this character to? (may be replaced with "what Digimon" or other such monsters / critters if needed)
Ooof, this one was actually really hard! Duke is a pretty complex dude to me, and since there are no dice pokemon, there's no easy answer. The best source of inspiration would be his manga arc to see his core development, where his father was training him up to replace someone else and steal his destiny. As far as symbolism/themes surrounding him, we've got clowns, dice, ninjas, and revenge. I cannot for the life of me think of a single pokemon that really embodies who he is, either in terms of absolute pure canon OR the fleshed-out personality I've interpreted him into.
But what I can do is give you a pokemon team for him that captures some of the story and visual themes surrounding him: Greninja, Porygon, Mime Jr., Gimighoul, Yamask, Pawniard.
Greninja, Gimighoul, and Pawniard are included for the monsters he uses in DM and DDM. Mime Jr because he's literally the son of a clown and embraces a tiny bit of that aesthetic for himself. Porygon because he's a bit dicey-looking and his origins are pretty technical and scientific, something that I associate with Duke based on all the work that went into him creating DDM. Yamask because when he did approach Yugi and the gang at first (they approached him actually, but I digress), it was under false pretenses. Charm and deception are two sides of the same mask and this boy wears them both way too comfortably.
7. What might they appreciate as a gift from someone?
My answer for Kaiba on this one was long, so buckle in! With Kaiba's, I basically went through the different kinds of gifts that would be good for him and who would give them, so I'll do the same here, based off of the different ships/friendships I imagine for him.
Generally though, I think what Duke values in gifts is either the thought and effort that were put in (handmade stuff, or something basic but deeply meaningful) or the kind of gift that is activity-oriented (bro loves hanging out with his friends).
Ryou has a good few options. He's an artist and Duke has always been really supportive of that. He might make Duke some custom resin dice based on his Monster World characters, or custom resin dice earrings based on his Monster World characters. I think the best gift he would give Duke is a piece of art starring all their Monster World characters from the campaigns that Ryou runs, and the whole thing is set up like a fun movie posted. Duke would be so thrilled with it. He'd get that framed and insured and hang it where he'd get to show it off. In the end, it would be some work of art that integrates their shared interests/activities, which makes it especially personal.
Ishizu would, I think, give Duke a modern copy of the Ancient Egyptian game sennet, or maybe a different game that she might have grown up with. He enjoys a challenge and trying new things, and he would also appreciate that it's something personal from her life that she's trying to share with him. Plus, more games are more things to do with friends.
I think all of that could apply to Marik as well. I also think that Marik, as stylish as he is, might have a pretty good grasp on Duke's style and get him some accessories and new nail polish or makeup, stuff like that. (You can't tell me Duke doesn't wear makeup, just look at that eyeliner!)
Kaiba probably fumbles the first time he tries to give Duke a gift. Either it comes across as patronizing or too aggressive, or just somewhat off. Duke decides to take the time to explain that what he wants most from Kaiba is dedicated time with him, so planned vacation it is. Seto says he can take him anywhere in the world, and Duke doesn't care where they go, as long as he is the center of Kaiba's attention.
Hm, time for Joey. Now, here's the thing, I've got a few pretty different Joey's running around in my head, all at different levels of maturity, so bear with me. He might want to take him out to do something special or have dinner at a really nice restaurant—an experience instead of an object, and it's time spent together. When in doubt, or just as a backup, Joey will have some special intimacy planned as well, and that's consistent for whoever Joey is with.
12. What's a moment in canon regarding them that you feel is underappreciated?
Hnnnnnngg I just made a big long post recently with all my Duke Devlin propaganda, because honestly, I think most people do just see him as a pretty face, that guy who flirts with Serenity to piss off Tristan, and the guy who put Joey in a dog suit, and that's it, but he's so much more than that to me. I'll cover some little scenes here that I either think about a lot or that I think are generally forgotten until you go back and rewatch the show.
One moment I think about a lot is that two frames of him making stirfry in Season Four.
Tumblr media
I don't think you'd believe how much of my understanding of Duke derives from that moment? I think about it way too much. He stepped up to cook for his friends, he handles that frying pan with confidence, and from that I think I extrapolated a lot of my more domestic/mundane headcanons for him (like how he always makes sure his partner/s are well-fed and looking after themselves, and that he's generally a pretty responsible guy, keeps his affairs in order, all that jazz).
Another great moment is in the KC Grand Prix Arc when Joey and Tristan step in front of a TV camera and are making fools of themselves and Duke just steps between them and the camera, showing his good side and smirking. I don't think he even says anything, and it's great. It's just a casual "the camera loves me, and you idiots need to stop making yourselves look ridiculous." (Couldn't find a screenshot or gif of this moment, sadly.)
I think the first time we see him in the anime is this scene where he's in an office or apartment above his game store and is just watching Yugi pass by (with unnamed sycophant next to him). It's an almost creepy moment, honestly, and it's the kind of thing that makes me toy with the idea of a full-villain version of Duke.
Tumblr media
As far as the manga goes, I haven't read most of it (I got the first few volumes shortly before my recent move, and they're packed up somewhere still), but I know the gist of his manga arc. Yugioh is full of bad dads, and I think because his dad got cut out of the anime it's easy to forget that Duke's a member of the Domino Bad Dad Support Group as well.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Anyways, I hope that's a satisfactory answer. I feel like that was pretty long-winded heh. 😅 Thanks again for asking! I do love talking about my boy Duke.

After nearly 10 years in the community, I have hit this massive number. Thank you all for supporting over the years!
I figured due to this and the Oscars being on today, I figured I would announce the second Sol Film Festival!
For those who were not here when the previous one happened, you take your Pokemon OCs and put them in a scene or movie poster that draws homage to a movie of your choice. I then judge the entries and pick the best of both the writing and the drawn categories.
This year I am upping the ante. The winners of both categories get $100.
Here are some ideas for what you can do.
A recreation of an official poster for a film
A recreation of a poster or DVD cover for a rerelease of a film. For example a Criterion Collection or Arrow covers.
A recreation of a single scene from a film. This can be done via a text post or art.
The Hard Rules
You must use Pokemon OCs only. You can use either a gijinka form or pokemon form, or both depending on your film. However they must be Pokemon OCs in a capacity.
Do not do any of the Pokemon or Digimon films. The reason for this is that since the ‘actors’ we are using are involved in the pokemon universe more or less it would be too easy to do a scene straight up pulling something that is in the Pokemon universe. Digimon is also too close to being similar so I want to cut that off at the pass.
Do not do television movies or movies that are continuations of or are a compressed telling of a TV series. For example Psyche the Movie,FF7 Advent Children, Serenity, El Camino, Full Metal Alchemist Conqueror of Shambala and the Zeta Gundam films are off limits due to fitting that above criteria.
TV show adaptations as a whole are not banned though. As an example, you can do pieces involving films such as In the Loop, the Original or live action Ghost In the Shell, In the Loop, Lupin the First, the Get Smart movie with Steve Carrel, any of the Street Fighter Movies and Final Fantasy Spirited Within are allowed to be homaged as they are not following a continuity.
At the longest, keep it to one scene from a movie if you do the scene recreation. Do not recreate the whole movie from start to end. That would be way too much effort than is required
The length of each submission would have to be, at most, the length of a scene in a movie, or part of a scene if you are drawing. So imagine you are making a storyboard or writing a novelization of a single scene from a movie. Do not adapt the full movie.
You can do a homage rather than a beat by beat recreation. What you choose to do is up to your digression.
Do not just recreate memes. We all laughed at Tommy screaming “I am fed up with dis wurld” and we all remember “Garbage Day”, but if you just try to meme your way through this competition your entry will be disqualified.
Do not implement any characters from askbohemiancompany or omnipokemonproducts. While I would respect my characters having cameos in any capacity usually, I don’t want it to come off like that is the best way to influence who wins. So do not implement them in any capacity in your projects.
If you entered last time, do not resubmit the same piece you did last time. You have to make another one. You can still do the same movie however.
Some Other Helpful Facts
In case you need help with picking film you can feel free to reach out to me and I can help you find some options based off your taste and what platforms are at your disposal.
If you cannot be sent the money I am willing to pay for a commission on the winner’s behalf.
Try to pick films that are not blockbusters. This is not regarding films that are popular, more so stuff like Fast and the Furious, MCU etc. I won’t disregard these types of entries but I want this to be a chance for people to discover new films. It’s just like the Oscars!
If I like your post that means I have seen it. I will not comment any further and if you want me to reblog it and write my thoughts on it after the deadline let me know.
The deadline for all Submissions is June 12th. Please tag all submissions SolFilmFestival2023 so I can keep track of the submissions.
Reblogs are appreciated!

Fic ask
4, 13, 20!
HELLO MY FAVORITE PROFESSOR ELM STAN THANK U FOR THE MEMES!!! hey actually these are all ones i havent thought about so made me put on my THINKIN CAP. and hey actually actually this got really long really fast so im PUTTING IT UNDER A READ MORE!!!
4. a story idea you haven't written yet
Ok so like. I've got these two ideas kicking around in my head from time to time that I'm like. Still kind of workshopping. One is a fanfic and one is an original fic. But basically I've had in my head since forever (10 years of Big Thinking) about a big Digimon sort of odyssey that originally started as a Pokemon x Digimon crossover where I took the Rocket executives and shoved them into the digital world. I have a whole world built for it already and a central sort of issue/theme revolving around a power struggle between the Demon Lords and the Royal Knights. The Royal Knights control HUB City, which is the major settlement in the continent, the Demon Lords control the Dark Lands, and kind of like usual they all want to wipe each other out. There's eventually a viral sort of glitch that starts to deteriorate the digital world and jumps to the real world.
Part of my problem is I've wanted to make it a comic or at the very least an illustrated fic and part of the problem is I'm trying to decide if I want to keep it as a crossover or just slap some new names onto the execs bc i gotta be real, the pokemon world and other pokemon characters. do not feature. at all.
its really just an excuse for me to give petrel a digimon.
anyways they all have full evolution lines planned, i've got a few major story beats, plot points, and the major final twist decided on. i also have 5 amvs that i play in my head on a loop when i drive to and from work.
also in this fic some digimon are gay (stingmon and flamedramon makeout sessions when) and trans (crusadermon, trans queen) ive decided
i think ive posted old art before extending the au to some characters and for my perfworld mutuals if youve seen my sycamore + dukemon art before that specific dukemon is also from this au. ive also got a fic i did publish where i workshopped a little bit of HUB city & a few side characters
i am now realizing i meant to also talk about the original fic i have planned and that one is a short story about a serial killer who murders hitchhikers picking up a hitchhiking serial killer and that one is less planned out but i know they sloppy kiss in the end
13. a fandom you're thinking about writing for
so like besides pokemon and tiger & bunny & digimon there's none i actively have fic ideas for, but some fandoms I think I'd like to revisit are Sonic and Zelda. Actually I had a Zelda fic I abandoned back on FFNet that I'd like to take another crack at one day where the premise was it was a modern setting based on the OOT/TP Hyrule (mostly OOT) where magic and fairies and such are regarded as superstition sort of the same way they are now, and the wondrous races (Goron, Zora, Kokiri/Korok, etc. even the Sheika to some extent) had all died out, leaving pretty much just the human races like Hylian, Terminian, Gerudo, etc. (In this case Termina is legitimately a neighboring kingdom/country and not limbo/purgatory ok??) And the kicker was Link was like. a hardcore atheist. but i think i remember people getting mad at me bc i made his legal name "Mahas" which I MUST IMPLORE YOU. THIS IS CANONICALLY HIS NAME AS OF SKYWARD SWORD. BELIEVE IT OR NOT THERE WAS AN ATTEMPT TO BUILD A PSEUDO LANGUAGE IN SKYWARD SWORD. WE KNOW HIS NAME IS MAHAS BECAUSE IN THE BEGINNING WHEN FI IS JUST CALLING HIM LINK AND NOT MASTER LINK HER VOICE LINES ARE EVER ONLY MAHAS. ONCE SHE BEGINS CALLING HIM MASTER LINK ANY TIME IT APPEARS ON SCREEN SHE SAYS "MAARI MAHAS." SO IM RIGHT OK FUCK OFF IM RIGHT. DIE MAD FFNET. DIE. MAD.
ahem.
im normal now.
anyways yeah i'd like to write for elder scrolls again too i think but like. something more original than the supernatural/TESIV Oblivion retelling crossover i tried once.
You can find that one on my ao3 but im not linking it.
20. in what year did you publish your first fic?
In the year of our lord 2005 (pensive emoji)(raised fist emoji) I published a... fic of some kind to FFNet.
You won't find it anymore, I deleted it a long time ago! I'm not sure if it was 'Rocket Road Trip' or 'The Rebellion,' but it was one of those. I used to write a ton of OC team rocket fics, and this was back in the day when the Rocket Executives had no name so you either thought there was 1 guy exec and 1 girl exec or you thought each exec encounter in GSC was a different person, and that was me. So I gave them all names and threw them into a truck together and i think in the very first chapter they were leaving the Team Rocket HQ and they ran over and left to die the OC who would later go on to be repurposed into Proton except his name was Steve then and he was a special classification of trainer class that I called a "Random Rocket," and the thing about Random Rockets was they all had very generic names (Steve, Bob, Juan, I think there was a Nancy once but she never got to show up in a fic or rp?) but the OTHER thing about Random Rockets was no one knew what they looked like because canonically their faces were all censored with a big ass mosaic effect (this was written, not draw.)
anyways farla cussed me out on 3 or 4 different fics back when she used to cuss out literal children so I deleted all my fics from 2005 - 2008 and then I deleted more of them when I went to college.
don't be like farla.
edit: self-plugging my old FFNet account for the lulz. yes it is i, the original author of Slowpoke Tails and Koffing Fumes.

My Experience With TCGs
Card games are one of my favorite mediums for games, I've always loved cards and collected all sorts as a kid, Digimon, Neopets, Pokemon, Yugioh and more. I've also always been designing card games, generally the rules were just something for me and my siblings to enjoy our big mix of cards or custom cards I made by cutting out art from magazines and instruction manuals for games. So now I am working on designing a game that is actually playable and fun for everyone, Soul Of The Hero. I've been working on this for years and It's changed formats a few times over that. However, with it's current design I do think it has the legs to finally do everything I want it to do. To get to this point I did a ton of card game research, I've looked at dead and alive card games, games I play all the time and games I'd never play competitively to really get to the heart of what makes them fun, special, and great.
Tumblr media
Yugioh
Yu-gi-oh is a game I played competitively for years and have kept up with for most the time even after I quit playing competitively. There has been little blank spots but it's a game I am deeply familiar with. Which is why in studying yugioh, I found not a lot to learn from in a positive way, it was mostly a lot of what not to do. Yugioh has been improving as a game since they left behind anime tie ins and focused on making the competitive game it's own thing. However, the game is a bit of a mess, a fun mess but it doesn't really feel like something that I want to emulate.
Still that is an important part of the process of making something and I am sure years of playing Yu-gi-oh will somehow show in the final production of Soul Of The Hero. I love Yu-gi-oh, I just also think it's a mess and probably not worth diving into ATM.
Tumblr media
Cardfight!! Vangaurd
This game is one that fascinates me always. It always felt like this might be the best designed card game around. Until the D series every card was a resource in such a perfect way that truly made Vanguard stand out from every other card game. There wasn't a lot of dead cards, there was less useful cards but thanks to shield values and boost every card can do something, every card is an important resource.
This is a game haunted by terrible management which really holds back it's potential to soar but when I am working on card games, I think about how this games so tightly designed. Having cards all have multiple uses means your players are never drawing a card and utterly dreading it, they might not prefer it, it might mean their going to lose, but especially in the early game every card can be used for something.
Tumblr media
Digimon
This game has one of the most fascinating resource systems. You have a rather wide pool of resources you can use but the more you use the more your opponent gets for free. It's a genuine travesty that this game is utterly fucked for Color Blind players. artistically this game really is top shelf which is really impressive given Digimon's previous TCG outings were some of the ugliest games ever printed. The actual flow of play is also really great, it really captures Digimon as a series while making an engaging set of gameplay. It's a perfect use of Digimon for a game.
The biggest thing the Digimon TCG inspires me about is trying to bring out a unique identity through mechanics, to have mechanics that simply scream, this is my game, the simple act of using them is recreating the essence of it.
Tumblr media
Pokémon
The Pokémon TCG is a strange and unique beast. I've played it a few times in my life and I've grow to really appreciate the game more as it's improved over time. The card games ability to draw massive amounts of cards, do big time disruptions and has totally unique mechanics. I love how it has a lot of mechanics each of which can give a bit more character to each creature. It's a card game that really makes use of every inch of space of it's design to give every card a unique essence.
Something I found enrapturing and I am taking into consideration is the Rapid Strike mechanic. It was just printed on the card art, like a little stamp and it becomes this key symbol and something that there is a lot of support built around. It's not something for so early in game design but it might be a better way of doing like Archetype titles then having every card be called "Darkest Warrior Knight" then name or whatever the fuck. I also really love how able you are to dive into your resources and think that is such a fun point of design.
Tumblr media
Sentinels Of The Multiverse
I love playing co-op and this game is one I've sunk upwards of 300 hours on. This is a game I just a blast to play despite it many of problems. This is the game that got me thinking about two v two card games in a serious way and not as a tacked on extra mode.
It's team based play is also something I am looking to when I am looking at making a purely co-op mode for my game because I think it clearly does a lot really well in making fun challenges for a team to fight with creative decks.
Tumblr media
Fire Emblem Cipher
This game really pushed me and inspired my design further. Fire Emblem Cipher's actual card design is just, gosh, breath taking in the way it communicates so much visually about characters very quickly and how those things about the character can then be brought back into the mechanics. A lot of games have lots of little flavor information about cards that sometimes get used as mechanics but this is so quickly visually communicated all while being colorblind accessible.
It's a shame this game never got a non Japanese release and that it died shortly after Three Houses release. I have not got a lot of play experience because of that but just reading translated cards and seeing the design is a major design inspiration.
Tumblr media
Magic The Gathering
This is the classic TCG but it is also one I think is lacking to me. The act of playing down Mana, it simply does not jell with me. The methodical play of MTG is clearly a ton of people's thing but it is not mine. What I can appreciate is the modern exploration of aesthetics and themes they've been delving into. The mish mash of settings and styles makes the game instantly a bit more captivating.
I think Magic is another game where what I'm taking from it is mostly "what not to do". Like don't sell proxy packs for tons of money but also like just design stuff I don't really jell with. That is one of the best ways to learn afterall.
Tumblr media
Wixoss
Sometimes something that looks bad can inspire you. I've not played this game but it just, really doesn't look like a game I'd enjoy, maybe I Would but until there is some kind of digital way to play I probably won't bother. I love girls and playing all girl decks but it seems maybe a bit too horny vibes with young characters to be a thing I wouldn't really wanna touch without some assurance about the game overall.
I have no idea how Piece cards work in Wixoss but what I can say is just the vibe of the piece cards inspired a whole new mechanic for me. Sometimes the vibes are strong enough.
Tumblr media
Weiss Schwarz
I wish this game was more exciting but it is painfully boring for the concept of "a bunch of random ass licenses fighting against each other". The games far too limited in deck building with ugly ass screen shots and promotional arts used to make the cards. It simply is terrible only worsened by the like terrible clash of some of the IPs.
However, the concept of a bunch of clashing universe has always appealed to me from like the first time I played X-men vs Street Fighter on the playstation one and this card game reaffirmed it is possible to do it and get people to want to check it out.
Tumblr media
Shadowverse
The app had fallen onto my phone several times but it wasn't until I played the game on my phone that I started to really understand Shadowverse. The game could be called anime Hearthstone but even if that was at it was it would be way better then that game cuz it's so ugly, I much prefer the art style of Shadowverse.
The gameplay however has a really exciting Evolve mechanic that stands out among all the card games. The ability to buff any card even if for some it is just a stat boost as a core mechanic is just super cool. I think it shows that there is so many dynamic ways to make cards variable resources.
Tumblr media
Legends Of Runeterra
Who would have expected to fall in love with this game so hard. This might be the most interactive card game ever created. This game is strictly digital and it would be impossible to work into a physical game in any good way but that's great, it's using the medium it's in to it's fullest. Creating cards, adding keywords, the push and pull of the more you do the more your foe can do, it's a really really intensely fascinating card game.
I think the champion system is where I am really looking at the game for what I could pull from what I am doing. I think having conditions to unlock a stronger version of a card that a deck can centralize around is really neat. I don't know if that literally will work in what I am doing but I think I am at least looking at the heart.
-----
If you enjoyed my little card game thoughts, you can follow me here, I'll probably talk about card games more on here and it'll keep you tunned in for when I am releasing my own card game in the far future.

i hope it's okay to ask, i'm curious, but i'd like to know how does astereus / the starwake system have an alter based on dante break, micah's character? please correct me if there's a better way of phrasing this question. i love reading your posts about them! ❤️
Ooohhh, this is a really good question, thank you so much for asking and giving us an opportunity to talk about this topic! These alters who are based on individuals outside the system are Introjects ( specifically, Factives / factual alters are alters created after real people and Fictives / fictional alters are alters after fictional characters, although there are introject alters who can represent after abstract ideas, tropes, archetypes, etcetera, which us cluster personally call them conceptual alters or Conceptives ).
Dante Break was a character of Micah's who xe was extremely connected with since xe was fourteen, Dante being xyr most comfort and all favourite character that xe created for xyr special project, Beyond the Unknown, and even roleplayed it on social platforms during high school years, roleplaying being one of the things that strengthened xyr writing passion and dream of being a published writer when xe accepted xe couldn't take the path of becoming an astronaut due to xyr amnesia and disabilities.
It's unknown when Durante ( alternative name of the Starwaker based on Dante to avoid confusion ) came into being or if it was originally an alter fragment that wasn't fully developed who took upon the Dante Break identity, but Durante initially existed to help Micah ( as a teen while xe faced depression, derealization-depersonalization, self-hatred, and internalized ableism ), cope with the loss of xyr ultimate dream of being an astronaut while teaching xem the importance of carving xyr path in xyr own life.
As explained from our research with own personal understanding and experiences with OSDDID, It's highly common that systems have a large amount of introject alters after fictional characters who one or more alters always been attached to or become more hyperfocused on at this time. These characters are the easiest sources of joy and comfort that the brain would introject from to help the affected alter better adjust in their life with their current health state and living situation.
However, it is possible indeed that alters can be created after real people who the alter(s) know, may it be based on someone who had a significant positive impact to that alter such as a caregiver or negative like an abuser. Although keep in mind, introject alter =/= their actual source. The introject alter may relate to their source in some degree, but in the end, they are their own person who can choose to disconnect with their source or maintain their source identity for their comfort.
To add our own personal experiences, we do have several introject alters, few prominent being based on Sun and Lito ( and suspectingly Wolfgang ) from Sense8, Jang Nan-gam from A Killer Paradox, few of our original characters, we even had an alter based on the " monster tamer " character archtype when I was hyperfocused on watching Pokémon and Digimon during the summer two years ago and this alter deeply loved to explore and interact with bugs. He really loved ducks as well and would have us watch duck related videos with him.
Durante was highly active when Micah ( and Philos when fronting while Micah was unavailable ) portrayed it for the show, hearing its suggestions and comments at times, but xe only thought xe would be exhausted and slip into the Dante Break persona when xe's used to being it for xyr arts career. Durante would sometimes be co-present with Micah while xe's acting or being interviewed, which it and especially Philos were the main reasons why people came to speculate that Micah had DID.
Phoebus and Philos always knew Durante's existence, then soon Phobos, but Micah became aware some time after xe got the diagnosis on their DID, exploring their inner world in one of the first few times and met it who was loitering about.

Otakon 2023
Lil ramblin' about the con beneath the cut! But above the cut, my spoils!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I haven't been to a con since NYC Comicon in 2015, so this was a ride!
Amazing Stuff:
-Meeting @citrus-cactus at the Digimon redubbed movies screening! It was so amazing to meet her after being in the same online community for... Like... God, who even knows, like ten years?!?!?! And she is so lovely!
-THE DIGIMON REDUBBED MOVIES SCREENING!!! More on that here!
-My haul above! A sweet lil Kou-chan figure and a Luna plush from the dealer's room and an artbook from Shouri and a Sonic keychain from the artist's alley!
Not my fave stuff and neutral observations:
For reference, I went to Otakon all three days from roughly age 14 straight through college?? Well, in college it would have been Sat/Sun only. After that, I guess I didn't go that often, but any comparisons I make are to that time period (roughly 2003-2011 ish).
The DC convention center as a venue:
-The convention center was easy to get to from the Metro!
-The building was much bigger and better able to handle the crowd than the Baltimore Convention Center.
-There was. NO SIGNAGE. WHATSOEVER. For ANYTHING. Absolutely horrendous. What there WERE were volunteers/employees who bellowed directly into your face to... Do the things you were already doing. Or to... Walk the other way around the pillar. Because the other side leads into the faerie realm or some shit, idek.
-The guide books used to have maps, schedules, opening and closure times, etc. There was a map in this guidebook, but the opening and closing times for different parts of the cons and the event schedule were not printed. Meaning I had to use my phone to know, for example, when and where the Digimon screening event was... And there was poor reception the dealer's room in the lowest level.
Although the event schedule site couldn't load, I was blessed that some of Citrus' discord messages were getting through. She alerted me that the screening room was filling up and told me the room number (bless!!!! Thank!!!).
The con compared to ones I remember:
-I was shocked that there was a digimon panel and two separate Digimon screenings in one day? And the Digimon movie redub screening event was full to capacity- I missed the first film because I was next in line at the shut door D: So, like, Digimon is alive, and I saw two Daisuke cosplays, a Ken cosplay, and someone with a Patamon plush attached to their baseball cap. Patahat! There wasn't much merch. Citrus spotted the main place offering digimerch and sent me there (I got the Kou figure there). She also saw the lone Digimon fanart in Artist's Alley, and we found someone who made baby stage plushes. Another dealer's room place had some vintage plushies of the digimon that looked... like they had been through... some stuff.
Basically, Digimon seems to still be very much alive in terms of audience interest, but not so much the merch and fan art. I don't know what to make of that.
-The con seemed a lot less lively than the ones I remember. I only saw a few interesting cosplays (like the kind where you go, how did they even do that?!). My husband pointed out that the hall is far larger, however, and that the cosplay folks have tons of photo studio rooms to go to. They were likely there.
-The extra space was deeply appreciated (compared to what I'm used to from the Baltimore days), but... Okay, so the Dealer's Room provided empty space. Every aisle had an end area to "pull over in," whether it's for a water or food break, a photo op, or to wait for your bud to make a purchase.
PEOPLE STILL STOPPED DEAD DIRECTLY IN THE MAIN THROUGHWAY. WHY. WOULD YOU DO THAT. PLEASE I AM BEGGING-
My husband says I'm dreaming if I think the provided empty space will stop people from doing that, lol!
-DEMON SLAYER. EVERYTHING IS DEMON SLAYER. THERE IS NOTHING BUT DEMON SLAYER. Look, I enjoy Demon Slayer too, but good gracious, it's clearly the Naruto of the 2020s in terms of popularity.
-I learned who Rem is. Good God there were a lot of Rem figures.
-Looking at my purchases, I bought for three "classic" IPs and supported an artist I've followed for a long time. No new stuff. And I'd say the merch overall was about half "vintage" stuff and half newer stuff. Lots of Sailor Moon, DBZ, Pokemon, etc.
General Con Hardships:
-So a friend suggested to me recently that I might have sensory issues. I balked, because jfc have you seen my list of issues, please don't suggest another, I beg, I am full up, can I have some less sir.
Uh basically she mentioned how much she used to love going to the movies and I said, "I don't go anymore, I can't understand the voice audio." And she was like- Okay so it's true that some movies don't mix sound properly and can't be understood well, but if it's all movies... Um, babe, I think that's an auditory processing issue.
She suggested I get ear plugs, and god DAMN I wish I had them at the con.
Riding in the metro in tunnels? The whoosing and clanking hurt. Volunteers absolutely bellowing in your face at the con? Look, I guess it's their job, but please I am going to cry if you scream in my face like that. People playing music at the loudest volume in the dealer's room and hallways? Why, why would you do that. Someone was walking around playing an ocarina on the way to the dealer's room, so I was stuck with her for about 10-15 min, and I genuinely wanted to lock the damn thing in her backpack on a timer somehow, lmao. Look, ocarinas are easy enough to get the correct note out of, but they are difficult to control tonally. That high-pitched, harsh PHWEEEE noise clawed at my ears.
Of course, you can't control other people. The best I can do is accommodate myself to suit the place I'm going, which means... The damned ear plugs.
Apparently sensory issues and anxiety go hand-in-hand, as of course people feel stressed if the signals around them aren't being processed in the "typical" way, causing strain.
So... The con was exhausting and just... Difficult. But! I'm really glad I went! And I'll just buy the gd earplugs, here's what was recommended to me.
Also, PS: I found a piece of rare digimon merch that was way out of my budget at a dealer's room stand. But when I came home and looked it up, I found it for 35% less (which, at this price point, was a lot). AND NOW I HAVE AN ABSOLUTE TREASURE ON THE WAY AND I CANNOT WAIT TO SHOW YOU! Also, honestly check the retail on stuff in the dealer's room before you buy, this must be why there's no reception down there-
I am ready to not attend a con until next year! But to also go next year! Maybe I'll meet more of my online pals!!!! :D

A bit late, but in November 2023 I went to Dutch Comic Con's winter edition and holy shit what a trip.
I will just summarize the whole weekend... I fucking met Elijah Wood. Holy fucking shit. Just writing this already brings me to tears.
On the first day I was dressed with mostly hobbity vibes, no real cosplay... and then on the second day as Mimi from Digimon again.
I never actually got to properly talk to anyone about my Comic Con experience, because my computer broke a little while after and it destroyed me emotionally and financially. Does not take away how special this weekend was for me though.
All weekend the Starbucks wrote my name wrong, except for one time when I went to a different one. I've been Min, Milou, Niemke...
Day one. CHAOS ENSUED. I left super early to make sure I was on-time. The schedule was clear: visit the Q&A, go straight to the hella expensive photobooth, and then finally go shopping.
And so I did! I could do a little bit of shipping in the artist alley in advance, his Q&A started at 11 am and I entered at 10 am (opening time). It was actually weird to be at opening time as I never am. The Q&A was very fun, but sadly I forgot a lot of details since my memory is awfully poor and I did not take notes, and on top of that I had to leave midway to go to the photo booth because Comic Con loves putting photo sessions right after Q&As.
Tumblr media
Literally missed half of it to queue in advance. I did meet a very lovely lady in the queue though, dressed as Arwen, she was a teacher in science or something like that. We chatted a lot and we are mutuals on Instagram now. Absolutely adored her. The photo turned out HELLA awkward and I never have the courage to ask for a re-shot despite paying BIG money to get a photo taken, I really hate myself for this, but if I imagine my arm away it's okay.
Tumblr media
I also hate how I insisted on wearing this flower crown when I should have known the background was going to be blue. Do I look nervous?I was!
After that I went on with my shopping. And look... THE RETURN OF THE ONIGIRI STAND! Fucking love these rice balls.
Tumblr media
Glorious rice balls filled with tuna, with a small wrapping of dried seaweed... yum yum!
I also will showcase of course the merchandise I purchased.
Tumblr media
A Digimon TCG gift box with a special Angewomon token, another bottle of mead like this time... again, they did not have cherry cinnamon, so this time my copium was pear cinnamon. A mini Kazuha bodypillow cuz I thought it was funny and they used his NORMAL art, not some weird spicy stuff... a bunch of buttons (the bottom left is a gift for a friend, the others are my new favourite Genshin Impact character, Lyney), a bag that has Lyney's constellation on it WHICH GLOWS IN THE DARK, two key chains also related to Lyney.
And because I still felt a little frustrated about my photo with Elijah, I could not resist buying a selfie with him as well. Also super expensive, and a bit awkward as he stayed on his side of the table, but... I love the photo so much.
Tumblr media
I told him... gosh I am sOBBING. I told him I wanted to come as Wilfred (which btw, on day 2 I actually found a Wilfred cosplay, IT WAS SO COOL and he told me I was the ONLY one who recognized him).
So I told Elijah I wanted to go as Wilfred instead, but alas... and you know what he told me????
"Well, you look beautiful."
I'm..................... in tears. I can't believe how someone who is technically a stranger can impact me so much. I am actually proper crying just writing about this now. Elijah fucking Wood said I look beautiful. Let's... let's move to day two.
Day two. So on this day I was again making my way to Elijah Wood's Q&A again at 11 am, and this time I took notes! Which is great as someone with potential aphantasia.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Some notes are...
We touched upon the subject of Daniel Radcliffe and him being a bit of a meme, so he told another story on it. He was in an elevator with someone and he could see this person was building up the courage to say something. He was thinking really hard, and when the elevator opened, he yelled "Harry Potter!" to which Elijah Wood REALLY comedically replied "NO!" and it was SO funny the way he landed his story.
He also mentioned that usually when he is misunderstood for another actor, he kinda lets it slip. He does not want to break their dream. He will only say it if they specifically ask him "are you [name]?" but otherwise he goes with the flow. This has also caused him trouble though, lol.
He ended up deep in conversation with an older woman, I think in a shop. She would be like "hey I saw you on a talk show yesterday" and Elijah was basically thinking: "I was not on one yesterday, but reruns happen all the time, it must've been that" so he went on with it. However, the more she continued, the more he realized it was not actually about him, as the woman went on about how she could relate about his feelings on thanksgiving as a vegan. That is when Elijah realized that it was not about him, it was about Tobey Maguire. He was already in so deep though, he just kind-of laughed it off and hoped the conversation would just end as soon as possible. He did not want to ruin this woman's day of course, but luckily she did end the conversation soon after that, he was so relieved. He just thought it was unique he was mistaken for Tobey Maguire in this instance.
Also very important, he said STROOPwafel correctly, he said the double o in the Dutch way instead of the butchered English way. Bless him.
He also talked so much about his experience with Jim Carrey, loved hearing him talk about him. Basically confirmed Jim is a cool and funny dude.
AND OF COURSE! A fan in the audience: "I have a question. It is very important and can be career changing. [pause]. Will you wear wigs?" - EVERYONE fucking died at the spot. The way it was landed. Fucking fantastic. Bless than fan for bringing it up. It led to Elijah telling about that his wife had not seen this "interview" until recently. He went like "...babe..." in such a tone, it was fantastic.
Brainpower was his Q&A interviewer, he is really talented, love that he also brings up less popular roles. He brought many GOOD questions and notes, a lot about his acting career, but I did not take many notes on it, but we did get a fun fact about what could have been in Dirk Gently season 3. There was going to be an invisible entity that would've basically been there the whole time and there would have been interesting quarrels between Todd and his sister. Man...
Overall... Elijah Wood was a very pleasant man to listen to. He is very calm, he has a sincere kindness to him that I cannot explain. You can tell he has been in the acting business for so long, been doing Comic Con gigs for so long, he was radiating. His eyes just expressed so much friendliness. Comfort. It is odd to describe, and actually kind-of funny considering how much of a horror fan he is, that he is suck a kind and comforting person.
[breathes]
Alright. That was the Q&A. What I noticed during the Q&A was that he had a different look about him though; he had shaved. This triggered my FOMO and purchased ANOTHER expensive photo with the man.
In this photo I am about to post... you may not see it... is a very happy woman. In the queue I was building up an incredible amount of courage; I would regret it if I did not try it... I... I went in to ask for a hug.
"Can I ask a question?" ("yeah") "You can say no, but can I have a hobbit hug?" (not exact quotes, a rough memory of how it went)
And... I actually got to hug Elijah Wood. ;_; I got to receive the realest of hobbit hugs. I was too nervous to properly live in the moment, but it was a blessing. I am proud that I asked, that I had the courage, I would have really regretted it if I did not, and I'm just - ;_;
The photo was after the hug though.
Tumblr media
And gosh look at his face, he looks so precious and happy. I did take off my hat from the cosplay to take the photo as you can see. I'm so happy I took the opportunity and took another photo, that I dared ask him for that hug, and I am grateful for his kindness.
That is enough about him... I have more merch to show.
Tumblr media
This is a BEAUTIFUL postcard I bought for my bestie Jamaine. It is an astral-looking cat, and I thought it was perfect for her.
I also took a photo of merch I really wanted, but could not afford anymore.
Tumblr media
The image does not do it justice though, it was printed on metal and the shimmer made it GORGEOUS. There was also one with Mew and Mewtwo where it looked gorgeous because of the moon shimmering.
But lastly merch that I DID buy, including another gift for friends.
Tumblr media
On the left a bath bomb shaped like a d20 with an actual dice set inside. Next to that three buttons, one of Lyney, two D&D buttons (bard/warlock) and a gift button in the glowing bag that made me laugh. The plush on the right was a gift for my bestie Jamaine because it reminded me of her cat, they both look like actual void. The nerds candy string was actually a gift from an old friend from college, she worked at an American & Japanese candy stand.
I also took a bath today with this bath bomb, so it was destiny I would make my Comic Con post today. These were the dice inside:
Tumblr media
I love them! I was so excited when I saw them haha. These are now my cleanest dice ever, HAHA!
I also wanted to quickly post this last pic of me meeting my internet-friend June. We had never met IRL yet and I have no idea who she is cosplaying, but still!
Tumblr media
I was not entirely prepared for the photo haha, I am still wearing my bag, holding my phone etc... but it is what it is hahaha.
I also had onigiri again, and they finally wrote my name right in the other Starbucks than the last three times I went (I spent a lot of money on these toffee nut lattes).
Tumblr media
I went for Mimi because of my cosplay instead of Miri, and besides spelling it right, THEY EVEN ADDED A SMILEY. Bless 'em.
So yeah, that is a summary of possibly the best weekend of my life.
Elijah Wood... thank you SO much... for just being you. Being awesome. Reliving this by writing about it is bringing me so much joy.

Playing Nintendo Switch, I guess …
I was inspired by drawing this, since my dear friend ThanasiaNightfall (on Deviantart) revealed to me her awesome Digimon-sona (https://www.deviantart.com/thanasianightfall/art/FemiDevimon-my-Digisona-965783822).
Well, what to say, my Digimon-sona Night, was peacefully playing with their Nintendo Switch, when suddenly this little prankster of a Picodevimon appears, and try to steal the Switch, just for fun. But the Picodevimon did not this to harm, infact, she is a friendly Digimon, who is loyal to her friends and only do mischief to those who have hurt her feelings previously.
Also, like Tessy said in the description of her Digimon-sona, this drawing have some wibes about the canon rivalery of Patamon and Picodevimon in the anime Digimon Adventures.

I know you like to spread positivity about all kinds of ships but I still wanted to ask if there are any digimon ships you really hate? Not meaning to be negative about it just curious.
Oh, that reminds me of that post I reblogged about how people can't openly "dislike" things on the internet anymore... And I would also maintain that I don't actually "hate" any ship, but that there are some dynamics that are simply not for me, whether it's the canon depiction or the fandom portrayal. I still enjoy playing my ship dynamics game, because it allows me to dive deeper into certain (potential) relationships. And I still think everyone should be able to ship whatever they like and lighthearted banter is also completely fine, as long as they don't harass others, vandalize art, write hatefic, start ship wars and so on. Believe me, I have seen people lose interest in fandom and pull back completely because of petty ship wars and it's just sad.
That being said, there might be a few dynamics I tend to avoid romantically, even if I enjoy most of these platonically (or at least in very specific contexts):
Taichi/Yamato: I recently wrote a huge analysis on how I perceive them and why I think they're rather tragic. I guess my inner child has always been kinda annoyed by their trope-y over-exposure ever since I had access to the internet and I simply am not enjoying "rival" ships (even though they still aren't even classic rivals in my book). Doujin portrayals are filled with angst or mainly physicality too and I don't like how those artists usually ignore that these two have OTHER PEOPLE in their lives too, which, again, makes it really tragic and sad and I really want them to HEAL for once, so... No, they're not for me.
Koushirou/Mimi: The fun part about them is that I actually liked them as a ship when I was a kid. And once again, I pointed out a lot of their good qualities before - but Tri really summarized everything I don't enjoy about their portrayal (and that doesn't even include certain fandom corners yet that go way too hard with their kinks on them, which make me just... Uncomfortable. The same/related corners also can make me have issues with very specific Taichi/Mimi fandom portrayals, but I will not go into further detail here, because it's just cruel). I absolutely adore them as friends, but there are just way too many things that make me believe they'd struggle to be compatible romantically with each other long-term.
Yamato/Mimi: I get that they are very popular in various fandom corners and I maintain, ship and let ship! As for me personally, I simply do not see them being compatible, mainly due to their lack of (positive) interactions, even though I did try to outline their potential before.
Yamato/Sora: Disclaimer, I do NOT hate them - in fact, I will probably always be one of those who will defend their parallels to one another AND them being mirrors to Taishirou (and in a lot of my AUs, you will find them as complementary ship to them after all). However... I mainly like their potential. What I don't like is their canon portrayal, because it simply doesn't give me enough to see them in a romantic context, especially long-term. Short term? Heck yeah, why not? But everything beyond that... We all know what I am referring to here, ahem. There was art out there that said they were each other's "comphet phase" and I will never get that out of my head. I also maintain that they both may just want Taichi. Which makes it even more tragic.
Daisuke/Hikari: Again, disclaimer, I think fandom tends to portray them rather nicely and I do believe they have a lot of potential. And I don't hate them, I am just annoyed with how they tend to be depicted in canon, because it feels like an unnecessarily cruel running gag that doesn't let either of them shine in their best light.
Edit: Small shout-out to Ken/Miyako and I know it's cheap to dump on the canon ships like that, but I still feel like it's very one-sided in its portrayal (even if The Beginning made a bit progress in that regard, but I still feel like they should go poly with Daisuke, period). Again, don't hate it, just wish it was more visible.

My Review of Cat’s Eye
Tumblr media
How did I get into this anime? Oh, just another case of curiosity hitting me. I’m still on a mission to watch more animes that came out in the 70s and 80s. Plus, I do recall a couple second skit from Lucky Star that referenced this series.
Tumblr media
Yeah, I see what you did there, Lucky Star!
Tumblr media
The Kisugi sisters (Hitomi, Rui, and Ai) run a café named Cat’s Eye during the day. By night, they are secret cat burglars known as Cat’s Eye. The fact the police didn’t put two and two together that these two correlated is beyond me. Plus, the police station is really close to the Cat’s Eye café. Like, next door! Seriously, how do you not…?! That’s like having Jeffrey Dahmer open a restaurant named “I Can’t Believe It’s Not Human” right next door to the police station.
Tumblr media
Then you have Toshio Utsumi. He’s a detective for the police department investigating all the burglaries made by Cat’s Eye. He’s also dating Hitomi Kisugi. Seriously, dude? Toshio has been foiled at every turn by these cat burglars. Cat’s Eye don’t steal just any old art item, everything they steal has one connection. They were all made by an artist named Michael Heintz and this man just happens to be Hitomi, Rui, and Ai’s biological father. With each item collected, the girls feel they are one step closer to finding their father. Do the girls find their father? Does Toshi catch Cat’s Eye? Let’s find out!
BETWEEN THE SUB AND THE DUB: Made in 1983, this anime got a later release in the west by distributor Nozomi Entertainment. And in more recent years, Cat’s Eye has gotten on streaming sites including Crunchyroll, Tubi TV, Amazon’s Freevee, and Retro Crush. And just my luck, Crunchyroll got rid of Cat’s Eye right in the middle of me watching it. There is no English dub if you’re wondering. At least when it comes to the original series. There’s a City Hunter movie as well as a Lupin III special where Cat’s Eye appear. They both have dubs…and they’re different from each other. The sub surprised me with several voice actors I seem to know including the late Kenji Utsumi. I have to say, I enjoyed his comedic performance as the chief. Here’s what you might recognize these folks from.
*Hitomi is played by Keiko Toda (known for Anpanman and Osono on Kiki’s Delivery Service)
*Rui is played by Toshiko Fujita (known for Tai on Digimon, Alfredo on Romeo’s Blue Skies, Matilda on Trapp Family Story, and Big Mom on One Piece) [R.I.P.]
*Ai is played by Chika Sakamoto (known for Yaten/Star Healer on Sailor Moon Stars, Nuriko on Fushigi Yugi, and Agumon on Digimon)
*Toshio is played by Yoshito Yasuhara (known for Aoshi on Rurouni Kenshin and Louis XVI on Rose of Versailles)
Tumblr media
SHIPPING: So, the big ship here is between Hitomi and Toshi. The two have known each other since high school and maybe even before that. But can this ship truly set sail when one of them is trying to catch a cat burglar and the other is the actual fucking cat burglar? I guess it helps that Toshi is dimmer than a 3-watt bulb and really can’t put two and two together.
Tumblr media
Now these two do progress, but not by much. There is an episode where Hitomi and Toshi do get engaged. Unfortunately, it’s only going to stay at an engagement. The reason behind that is Toshi says he doesn’t want to marry Hitomi until he captures and arrests Cat’s Eye. Good luck with that, because Cat’s Eye has duped you every chance you even got close to them. We do get a wedding episode, but it was just a fake wedding between Toshi and Hitomi to do a sting operation to get Cat’s Eye. Didn’t work!
Tumblr media
Despite the fact that these two have gone out since high school, they sometimes act awkward during some crucial moments. Like the time Toshi stayed with the girls and shared a room with Hitomi. I know Hitomi is nervous because she and her sisters have special rooms dedicated to Cat’s Eye and possibly a few stolen items. But there’s such a thick layer of bashfulness here. Not to mention the flirting Toshi does every now and then. He isn’t a full-blown pervert like some other notorious anime characters, but he does have a weakness for blonde women. And Hitomi does let her jealousy show at nearly every moment. Do they actually hook up in the manga? I don’t know. I doubt it. But I’m going on my doubts I just listed with this ship.
HALFWAY POINT: So, about 30+ episodes into the series, we notice a few things happening to help turn this slow-moving cog of an anime. First of all, Toshi and Hitomi finally got engaged. But as always, work will always trump relationships. Toshi will only marry Hitomi if he catches Cat’s Eye. But duh, Hitomi is Cat’s Eye so how the fuck is that gonna work. She and her sisters are already one step ahead of Toshi and the police.
Tumblr media
Well, it looks like Toshi added two extra brain cells! He decided to look into all of the pieces of work stolen by Cat’s Eye to see if they have a connection. Yes, they do! They’re all by Michael Heinz. Unknown to all, but to Rui, Hitomi, and Ai, that is their missing father. Toshi tries to learn more about the elusive artist, meanwhile the girls get a hot tip saying that Heinz is in Paris. That only lasted for one episode, now they’re back in Japan.
Yeah, despite getting a bad-ass new opening theme and a short-lived costume change for Cat’s Eye, the show goes back to the formulaic plot of Cat’s Eye stealing a piece of art work and foiling the police for another 30+ episodes. Now don’t get it twisted. There are some episodes that are pretty good. There are a couple of episodes where Toshi does suspect Hitomi of being Cat’s Eye. He gets close, but then something absurd happens and Toshi drops the suspicion. Toshi’s workmate Asatani never did drop her suspicion of Hitomi and the others though.
ENDING: Okay, do we get a conclusion? Do we move away from the crime of the day for Cat’s Eye? Does Toshi and the other detectives catch the elusive cat burglars? Are Hitomi and her sisters finally revealed to be Cat’s Eye? Do the girls get a special clue about their mysterious father?
Tumblr media
Imagine if you will, the girls are about to steal a valuable diamond and announce their crime in their usual way. And Toshi has been given the ultimate, final warning from the chief where he has to arrest Cat’s Eye this time or be fired from being a detective. Now imagine that Toshi finally catches Cat’s Eye and learns that it has been Hitomi, his fiancé all along. Hitomi let’s herself be caught because she knows Toshi’s career is on the line this time.
Keep imagining because none of that happened for real. This was all part of a play written by Ai. Wow, what a shitty pay off for the series finale. I’m sorry, you keep people on the line for 72 episodes of the same old song and dance. Cat’s Eye commits the crime. The police department is incompetent. Cat’s Eye steals the priceless art item. And then when you get to the 73rd episode of the series, the finale, it’s all part of Ai’s play. And Ai is the worst person in the world to have make a school play about Cat’s Eye. First of all, she has almost slipped her tongue about being Cat’s Eye on numerous occasions throughout the series. We can chalk that up to her being young and stupid. And second of all, SHE’S PART OF FREAKIN’ CAT’S EYE!
From what I heard; the manga does end much differently. I would have chalked it up to the anime ending with a weird ending in order to entice fans to read the manga. It might have been that, but then you notice that both the anime and the manga ended in 1985. In fact, the manga ended six months before the anime. Okay, I have no theories on that. All I know is that the anime has no conclusion whatsoever. Toshi still doesn’t know that his girlfriend and her sisters are really Cat’s Eye. The notorious art thieves he’s been trying to capture this whole time! Hitomi and her sisters still haven’t nailed down the whereabouts of their elusive father. And apparently, there’s still many more pieces their father made that are scattered around art museums all over Japan and beyond. Yes, Cat’s Eye the anime is over…but Hitomi, Rui, and Ai live on.
Tumblr media
In 2019, another retro anime by the name of City Hunter reemerged on the scene with a new movie. And wouldn’t you know it, Hitomi, Rui, and Ai appeared in the film as Cat’s Eye. Strange, right? It is until you realize that the creator of City Hunter is also the creator for Cat’s Eye. Amazing to hear and see these girls in our updated animation of whatever the hell period this is. Of course, Toshiko Fujita had already passed away by the time this movie came out so, Rui is now played by Hitomi’s seiyuu Keiko Toda. Add to that, the girls of Cat’s Eye have English voices in this movie.
Tumblr media
And more proof that this is not over, in 2023 Cat’s Eye had a crossover with Lupin III. Don’t get too excited for a conclusion here either. Crossovers are not canon to the main story. I have severe doubts that Lupin III even knew Cat’s Eye’s father or that both animes coincide with each other for real. It’s probably to celebrate Cat’s Eye’s anime anniversary as 2023 marks 40 years. Anything else I should say about the movie? Nostalgic music, weird hearing an English dub, and tripped up by the animation. Seeing anything compared to it’s 40-year-old counterpart is severe whiplash. The English voices here are different from the City Hunter cameo the girls had four years prior. And in the Japanese Cast, they got Rica Fukami to do Rui’s voice this time.
After sitting through 73 episodes with no big pay off, no catch, and no ultimate conclusion, I can’t really give this a glowing recommendation. Only to say that if you’re curious to see a vintage piece of media, maybe consider watching a few choice episodes. I’m sure there’s some wad on Reddit that has a list of episodes to watch without being bored with the same running gag over and over again. And yeah, for the men in the audience, you might be enticed by the sex here. Hitomi and Rui are bombshells. And yeah, Rui is another character I would go gay for.
In the meantime, every episode is available on Freevee through Prime Video as well as Retro Crush and Crackle. The newly released Cat’s Eye vs. Lupin III movie is also on Prime Video.
