If you are visiting via SimsFinds: I want anyone visiting my Tumblr from the SimsFinds website to know that most of the creators you see linked there never gave their permission for a link to their CC to be put behind ads or timers, including myself.

Awhile back someone sent me an Ask, letting me know that some of my CC was linked on this site. While I was aware of it, at the time it was only a handful of my posts. Recently they have been adding a ton of links to my CC posts, all behind their stupid timers, and due to their past behavior (thank you @simblob for your post) I am saying something about this. Not to mention their site still looks like one of those potential virus minefield disasters that you tell your mother not to visit.

I want everyone to know that there are many CC finds blogs right here on Tumblr. You don’t need to use that site to find all of the fun CC you’re looking for. You don’t have to wait for timers before every CC item, only to find out it’s merely a link to a CC item that was never meant to be behind an ad. You can start by searching tags like #sims 4 cc, #ts4cc, #s4cc, and go from there. If you need some help you’re also welcome to send me a message or Ask!

What SimsFinds is doing, is trying to turn THIS into THIS (more about TSR HERE)

CC Finds blogs that I recommend can be found at the bottom of my CC posts, as well as my own CC finds blog, which I’ve spent a lot of time organizing <HERE>, & there are many, many CC finds blogs on Tumblr that you might come across yourself as well <3

If you are new to Tumblr & make an account to save things for later, remember to personalize your blog, write something in the description so that your blog doesn’t look like a bot account (you can read about that here)

i have separated the film posters from the band posters just in case. the unseparated version has 51 swatches total, bands only has 39, films only has 12. base game compatible. note: not all band posters are pictured!! some bands have multiple posters. the black and white electric wizard poster is a little finicky, sometimes it'll place correctly & sometimes it won't. keep that in mind when resizing it.

TS3 - Shang Simla Forbidden City Icon MOD

One of the most fatal mistakes that EA Maxis' The Sims 3 Studio in San Francisco, USA ever done to Shang Simla, China world in The Sims 3 World adventures: Using image of Torii Gate, from Japan, for China world icon.

For 13 years after release of The Sims 3 World Adventures Expansion Pack, finally I did the fix for the icon. Creating this icon default replacement is actually difficult because

editing the vector in very small scale size. 64x64 px, 57x57 px, 38x38 px, 32x32 px, 21x21 px...

I chose Forbidden City as icon for Shang Simla because Forbidden City is only existed in Beijing, China. Shang Simla has its own “Sim-ified” Forbidden City building in the center of the World.

I haven’t tested the whole gameplay showing this new icon, but I have already done the edit for all image icons with keyword “beijing” “china” on S3PE. If you found any icon that hasn’t been replaced, please report to me.

I'm not sure what simblr's general opinion on this is, but peeking back in after my long hiatus, I have a lot of thoughts...

In my opinion, Patreon killed all of the momentum that ts4 simblr had pre-2020. I think we all know a lot of the bigger issues- permanent paywalls, creators doxxing and bullying, cliqueing up and sharing info- but I mean even besides that. I mean specifically early access, two to three week delays for releasing cc, the version of paywalling that most people (including myself) accepted.

It's good that creators were able to get paid for their work, especially during the pandemic. But I think, unfortunately, it had other effects too. I remember back then, being disappointed at how much was eacc, and that was only like 25% of the cc coming out, and it (almost) always was popular creators with high quality work. But slowly but surely, nearly everyone moved to patreon (which I've noticed has caused a lot of cc to be forever lost once patreons were closed/deleted) and 99% of the time it was early access or even exclusive. Many people started blogs with early access cc from the get-go, without having a presence beforehand, and those blogs seemed to be some of the most focused on blocking anyone that shared their cc. The cc varied in quality- it could be simple mesh edits that were still mostly ea, or recolors, or even just patterns sourced from other sites. It didn't matter what it was, it was just content for money, anything to pad out the month and keep patrons. Creators would do early access and then link the cc through adfly or to TSR or simsdom/simsfinds, one by one, even if it was supposed to be a pack. It wasn't bad enough to call out, but it was purposeful.

CC on tumblr became a business in a way it hadn't before, even with other paysites in sims history. And while some people are happy to donate to creators they like now and again... most people either can't or won't. Many simmers are children, and many simmers are adults with strict budgets, especially during the pandemic. And truth be told... they probably got bored. Because it's all terribly boring. CC shopping isn't fun anymore. It's the briefest serotonin seeing something interesting on your dash and then instantly flying away when you see you'll have to wait almost a month for it. And if it wasn't a creator I really liked, I forgot about it instantly after that... sometimes even if I really liked them. Motivation dropped. People stopped being excited, and stopped playing.

Nowadays, it seems even worse. Because the amount and variety of cc and creators has dropped drastically. I'm shocked to see 2-3 cc posts per day, if that, most of them paywalled. It isn't just cc posts either- used to you couldn't look in the s4cc tag for cc, it would be so crowded with non-cc sims posts, but now it's depressingly easy... and empty. Lookbooks, edits, gameplay, cc, it all seems more sparing. And you don't see the same creativity, the same fun random little items, stuff that was interesting even if it wasn't necessarily perfect. Or wild ideas or cc that would appeal to certain small niches. Because that isn't profitable, is it? When you need to create a certain amount of items per month at a certain quality to keep patrons and therefore income, you have to strategize, for good or for bad. Some people are able to do that, and while good for their business model, it limits what they can create and how much energy they can spend on each item. Some people aren't able to do it, and burn out and leave. Either way, creativity suffers. Enjoyment suffers. Creators leave from the passion being sucked out of their hobby; non-creators leave from frustration and boredom. And you're left with a handful of creators still going by their cc business playbook, month by month. But how long can those few sustain themselves?

It's natural for communities to ebb and flow, or even completely die out, but ts4 simblr had been going strong for years before this overall, even if it was in waves. In the pandemic, it should've flourished the way other many other communities did, especially gaming focused ones. But, it didn't. Instead it slowed down, more people left than the amount coming in, the engagement died down, and it seems like as a whole custom content hasn't advanced at all. Maybe it would've happened anyway, but I honestly think patreon contributed a lot. Also, ts2 and ts3 communities weren't affected in the same way, afaik, which makes me think it was paywalls even more.

Can it be fixed? Maybe. If paywalls weren't as much of a thing anymore- and I don't mean completely gone, but just a fairer ratio- I think it could. But now that it's become a standard, I doubt that will happen. I think most people have moved to other places where they don't have to deal with it, like discord servers, and simblr will continue to lose momentum.

It's good for creators to have the option of getting some income for their work, but I guess I'm just saying... at what cost? Beyond the monetary? If you're not super popular, are you even making enough for the added stress to be worth it? If you are, is this going to be satisfying and maintainable long-term, without burn-out/effects on your mental health? Who will pay for it when the number of players keeps dropping? And will this continue on to the Sims 5 community in the future? I honestly hope not.

Honestly, I stopped using my tumblr drafts/likes to bookmark CC ages ago. Mostly bc I’d just lose what I saved for later anyway in the total mess that is everything else I throw in there.

I use my browser bookmarks instead. Many early access creators will release in monthly intervals. I’ll bookmark their Patreon, and put the date I last checked it in the bookmark’s name, so I know when to check it again.

I also instinctively check for new unlocked CC at the start of every month anyway. Or if I follow their tumblr, whenever they release a new set, it’s likely they’ve unlocked or will unlock an old set fairly soon so I know when to look.

My only other suggestion is… and this is a kinda last resort thing, bc I know everyone hates this site, but I check SimsFinds also, since 98% of anything that gets posted on there is free, anything that isn’t is usually marked as such. Download an ad-blocker so you won’t have to be subjected to their horrors, and no you don’t have to hit the download button and go through the wait timers. Instead, find the url or creators name by either hovering over the preview pic, or looking below it on the download page, and just google it instead, bc fuck that site severely otherwise.

There is one other way to avoid all this mess, but it’s such a hot button issue, honestly if you’re okay with it, it’s likely you’re already doing it anyway, lol.

Big changes

Hello everyone. If you could spare a moment, please read this. I’m not really sure how to start. I’m terrible at words. But here it goes...

You may have noticed that I haven't been very active as a creator for the past year or so. I've faced numerous personal issues and challenges in my life that were out of my control and that period of my life is still not over. My creativity and mental health have been, and still are being affected in a negative way.

And now, additional outside influences have pushed me to make a big decision that will also impact you guys, the ones I make my content for and the reason I've been able to make it so far as a creator.

I don’t want to get into the details too much because I’ve talked about my health issues before and I'm not looking for your pity or anything like that. I just want to explain that due to my mental and physical conditions, I'm unable to do a regular job. Therefore, I rely on 3D modeling and freelance work as my main source of income.

Now, let me get to the main point. I’ve been thinking long and hard and I’ve come to the conclusion that focusing on my Patreon will be the best approach to preserve my creative freedom. No restrictions, no limitations, no deadlines. I will be able to just do whatever, whenever. I will no longer post my cc on simsfinds. It will be Patreon only.

Before anyone panics, I will not be going full exclusive. But the early access period will now be longer than just the two weeks I was doing before. Instead, it'll be closer to a month. This will allow me to curate a better workflow and in turn, produce more and better content for you guys as well, without additional pressure put on myself.

So that’s it. Changes are scary but I hope this one to be a good one. Please be patient as it may take some time for everything to fall into place and work itself out.

I'm in the process of moving, and this might cause some delays in my creative progress for the next month. However, I'm determined to get back to work on cc as soon as possible. For now, if you’re in a position to, I’d appreciate any pledge to my patreon. Thank you for taking the time to read this.

I need to make a post about Boosty.

I understand that the Russian state has blocked Patreon from their country, and now is only accessible with the use a VPN. (please read about VPNs if you don’t know about them and consider this)

The initial issue that I had with Boosty when it popped up in the Simming community, is that it requires users to create an account in order to download anything. I do not like promoting CC sites that do this, people should not be forced to share their information in order to download CC.

When I looked into it more, it looks like this site is not good for artists and fans alike. Reviews of the Boosty site are peppered with things like the following:

I do not know what Boosty does with the money that they are keeping. All of this is highly unethical and sounds like a scam. I cannot promote posts that contain links to this website, (just like I would not reblog a post that contains a link to simsfinds, formerly simsdom, or these gods-forsaken posts that have ad links that now go to Linkvertise. An entirely different issue, but unethical for the sharers, and risky for users just the same). I don’t want to spread that link around for people to click on and then they might think it’s something reputable to use. Even if one is not sharing their financial information or making purchases, they are still required to create an account with their information in order to download anything.

I understand that things are hard right now. But we have to then find workarounds and other solutions that do not include sending the kind people who just want to enjoy these lovely & lovingly made creations, to scammy websites that no doubt harvest information and seem to be harvesting funds as well.

One last note, VK, the company that owns My.com, which owns Boosty, is officially owned by the Russian government.
