It's been more than a year since I've drawn anything for myself. I have been occupied with a film project, and I've honestly just been excruciatingly burned out by social media that I decided to step back. Also, debilitating back pain was something I never wanted this Christmas, but to hell with it because doing nothing has come to a point where it feels terrible and no longer brings me solace. So as a change, and despite all my pain, I put some together for a warm up, and look forward to posting more regularly soon.
Merry Christmas everyone.

Foul-smelling monsters capable of turning invisible. While those who own one may be Sigbinan, it is also not unlikely for an Aswang to have one under their command as well.

An Aswang's loyal, shadow-leeching pooch
"Tabi Tabi Po" is an art challenge I do every other year in the month of October where I draw my take on (hunky) Philippine mythological creatures.

Sigbinan
What are the creatures in fear we encounter?
Tumblr media
Throughout all cultures, people have feared what could be lurking in the dark, stalking through these inky shadows and attacking whoever crosses their path, dangers that always seem to respond with cultural anxieties.
This piece revolves around a girl that can set dark malevolent creatures known as sigbin, free from jars made of clay with the touch of her hand. The girl, who is unnamed in the story is known only as "The Holder" she has been slowly drained of her life by these creatures for years. The girl was consumed in the darkness of her mind for so long that she doesn’t know who she was anymore. Little is known about the origins of sigbin, they are not native to this realm. They were forged in the blackest pits of hatred and anger.
For some, they’re only perceived as dark shimmers in the air. They can only sense it and are subject to its malignant shimmers which will harm them if they get too close. However, some can see these creatures like the protagonist. Some people can visibly see the ghostly creature and they can even interact with it in some way or another. For these people, the sigbin acts as a sort of pet and uses them to do their bidding whenever they wish. Sigbin are ghastly creatures that feed on the life force of mortals, reducing them to a mindless husks that cannot be saved. It is unclear if she knows what she's doing or if she's being controlled by them.

Sigbin
Tumblr media
The Philippines has its own vampiric cryptid known as the Sigbin, which is very similar to the Chupacabra.  The Sigbin is said to be a creature of the night that feeds on the blood of its prey through their shadow. It resembles a hornless goat or kangaroo-like creature with large ears, has a long, whip-like tail, and exudes a nauseating odor.  Its wide mouth holds large, wicked fangs.

Sigbin
Tumblr media
The Sigbin or Sigben is a creature in Philippine mythology said to come out at night to suck the blood of victims from their shadows.
It is said to walk backwards with its head lowered between its hind legs, and to have the ability to become invisible to other creatures, especially humans.

Yuu: walang hiya ka Leona! Iniwan mo sarili mong pamangkin!
Cheka tugging yuu's sleeves: Big sis, is there something wrong?
Yuu: oh no baby. So, what do you want to do? Big sister still has class so I want you to behave while at there. Got it?
Cheka: Got it!
Yuu: *Gently carries Cheka all around*
*at the cafeteria*
Deuce: oh! Hey Yuu!
Ace: Haha you look like a nanny right now-
Yuu: Ace, please get us our lunch. I will be staying here with Cheka.
Ace: uhh alright
Yuu: cheka, eat the veggies.
Cheka: Nyo!
Yuu: If you don't eat your veggies, you won't become strong to fight the sigbin.
Cheka: Sigbin?
Yuu: Yes. A very terrifying creature in my homeland. It is said to come out at night to suck the blood of victims from their shadows. It is very scary and ugly!
Cheka, Deuce, Grim and Ace: 😟😟😟
Yuu: that's why, we eat our vegetables to make ourselves strong and defend ourselves from the Sigbin.
Cheka, Deuce, Grim and Ace: *Eats the vegetables*
Grim: Hey yuu... are sigbins really true
Yuu whispering: yes. There are two sigbins here in night raven actually.
Grim: What?!
Yuu whispering: you and Leona

My favourite silly thing about Trese fandom is that while people ship the Tikbalang character Maliksi and the titular Alexandra Trese, she canonically had (has?) a crush on the Sigbin character Bantay

Overlooking the hot boy for the bearded old man… Trese has good taste 😂

So I have an idea but I wanna know what my fellow Wyler shippers think
So I was thinking... what if we did a little challenge where we have Wyler (and whatever other ship from Wednesday we'd wanna include LOL) investigate a mystery that takes place in our own countries/hometown/state?
I was just thinking this because it'd be fun to see what people come up with!! and it'd be a good excuse for me to write Wyler (and possibly Petroclair) experiencing Filipino culture and solving a mystery (and possibly murder) that has to do with Outcasts inspired by creatures from Filipino folklore. Like the aswang, tiyanak, duwende, kapre, manananggal, wakwak, ekek, sigbin, and white ladies. I'd LOVE to be able to do something with that.
I mean, I could just do it anyway, but I just thought maybe other people would be interested in trying something like this too?? Just as a little prompt that multiple of us could do if we wanted. Maybe create a deadline so we can actually see them go up. Give our own unique folklores and cultures a chance to shine?? But then I realized maybe Wednesday already covers the cool mythical creatures from your area, so I'm not very sure about it lol.
So what do u guys think?? Would u be interested in writing ur own fics like that?? And if u are, WOULD u wanna do it like a little challenge?? Or shall we just treat this like a prompt and do it on our own time???
And if not, would you guys still be interested in reading a fanfic where I let them experience my culture/folklore?

Potental Phillpine monsters you could eat
Amomongo Described as ape or monkey like, and people eat bush meat, so their is that, plus angry apes are a standered in monster D&D like systems... Bakunawa Form my Galancings, it seems to be Sea serpent, but I can feel it is soppused to be something a bit more than that...
Busaw I bring them up,cause it grows Root Vegetables, So it might habe anything form Mandrake to Potatos. Plus it might try harvest the bodies of adventures who met an unfortunate fate...
Sigbin I mean it might be a spirit, Demon, or something else, but it could also be a very weird goat. Berberoka Probably rubbery due to hunting tencinic, but hey, lotta of fish. Might need to add a reason why they are so afraid of crabs...
Tigmamanukan I dont think a eating a Omen bird is a good idea, but probably has a lot of Mana and Vit D
Ooh, thanks for sending this over! These are really cool. To address these:
Amomongo sounds like a really aggressive ape. Good lower-middle level monster.
The Bakunawa is more of a singular being, plus it's said to be big enough to swallow the moon. This makes it more of a cosmic entity. Maybe, in Dungeon Meshi terms, it's a demon? Rather than The Pig or The Winged Lion, it's The Eel. (I also ramble about the Bakunawa's role in my OCverse here.)
I'm thinking the gang could eat specifically the vegetables grown by the busaw rather than the busaw itself (hopefully). I imagine there's something unique about the vegetables - a magical quality such as granting invisibility, maybe?
Sigbin could be your standard shapeshifting monster, alternating between a dog, pig, chicken, or fish to escape/pursue enemies.
Berberoka's interesting. It's described as an ogre, but we can just make it a bit less humanoid for the purpose of a Dungeon Meshi-type story.
As you said, the tigmamanukan is an omen bird; maybe its gimmick is that it causes misfortune within the area. Additionally, since in Tagalog mythology it's specifically a ward of the god Bathala, here maybe it's like the "eyes" of the dungeon lord?
