i think a really sweet and subtle detail about levi is that it's very rare when he smiles, but around you, there is an ever-so-slight change in his usual, unmoving expression that anyone (especially erwin) can recognize.

he doesn't necessarily smile, but more, his facial features soften upon seeing you enter a room. his brows don't crease as much and his narrowing gaze relaxes the moment you make eye contact with him – the fondness in the way he looks at you is makes it seem like the rest of the world doesn't exist. his muscles relax almost immediately and his doesn't even realize how clenched his jaw is until he allows himself to let it go loose.

and when erwin teasingly confronts him about the matter, he merely just scoffs, denying any that it was even remotely possible for him to feel any sort of attraction to you.

but deep down, erwin knew all too well.

Is it such an important question?

“It happened on the couch in our living room. After another rough day, after another breakdown unseen, after wanting to give up again, and pushing myself further. I was exhausted and I just wanted the warmth that physical contact can bring. So, I hugged them. I climbed into their lap and clung to them. They held me back, kissed my forehead, ‘It will all be ok.’ 

They knew that I was upset, but it never feels like they truly grasp why, not then, not now. Still, I held them tighter ‘Yeah. I know.’ 

I didn’t really want to talk, talking to others never really helps. This battle between myself and the dark parts of my being can only be won by me. They shifted uncomfortably underneath me, I pulled away, ‘sorry.’ They were still holding onto me when they looked me in the eyes, ‘It’s ok, I am here for you.’ As they pulled me back into their snug embrace, I could feel that they were tense. ‘Do you feel safe with me?’ 

I felt my body clam up. Did I feel safe with them? My immediate response was no, but I did not think I can tell them that. It’s not that I felt like i was in danger because of them, it’s not that they would do anything to intentionally harm me. No, I know that they wouldn’t. I just don’t feel safe anywhere with anyone. I hadn’t felt safe since I was a little girl, picking flowers in my front lawn, the family dog wandering around with me. Since I was six and cuddled in my mother’s arms, unaware of the problems I would have, the problems the world would have. I haven’t felt safe for so long, I doubt I ever will again. I knew the answer they wanted, but I struggled with whether or not to give it to them. To please them, or to risk hurting them more than I ever wanted. I had paused for too long. ‘S-safe? In general?’

 My throat was tight, the words came out as some sort of excuse to explain why I hadn’t answered. ‘Well.. yeah, I guess. Do I make you feel like your protected when you’re with me, like this.’ 

My head buried in their neck and my eyes were closed, ‘Yes. Yeah, of course.’

  I lied. They held me tighter, again. ‘Good.’ 

I know partners want to be good to their lovers. I know they want to make their people feel at ease, I know they want them to feel safe. I wish I had answered more honestly, or maybe, I wish that my answer was my honest feeling. Now I only feel guilt, as though I am stringing along this wonderful being falsely. Is it really such an important question anyway?”

his arms are wrapped securely around your tired and limp body, keeping a knife near his nightstand to make sure it's within his reach at all times.

sometimes he'll be half awake and half asleep, feeling your body turn in his hold. but, he keeps you still (for as long as he can throughout the night anyway) and runs his fingers through your tangled hair until the dawn meets the horizon again.

the sweet nothings that he only ever lets slip out of his mouth when you're deep in a slumber – it only makes it easier for his vulnerability to show. the gentle kisses that meet your temple and trail down to your nape. the small patterns that are drawn onto your stomach leaving a slight tingle under his fingertips.

levi swears that he's a clean freak, until he's wiping the snot from your nose with his handkerchief, letting you blow your nose until it felt empty. his brows furrowed with concern to which you thought was disgust at first – it's hard to read him sometimes.

levi swears that he's a clean freak but when it comes to you, he'd push it all aside, forgetting that he used to wipe his blades on the battlefield after a bloody attack or how repulsed he felt living in the underground. he had forgotten what it felt like because now, he'd do absolutely anything for you, even if it meant getting his hands dirty every now and then.

his love for people in general may seem very subtle, but underlying his cold exterior, he has a heart as big as the universe – it must've been because of his soft spot for his mother and the love that she always showed for him had stuck as he grew up.

when he surrendered his heart to you, though hesitant at first, he trusted you more than anyone to have the privilege of intertwining your soul with his. levi is a soft, but rough lover. while he's more of an acts of service man, there are other components in your relationship he lacks in but it doesn't mean he won't try for you.

he never raises his voice at you, he doesn't have the heart to at all. whenever he's on a mission, he'll write a letter every night without fail – always signing off with 'yours forever'. he does his best to verbally reaffirm you too, even if it's not his forte. he definitely gets better over time.

it's hard for him to be physically intimate at first and you fondly remember the times when you needed to initiate any form of contact with him whether that was holding his hand when he did paperwork, resting your hands on his shoulders after a long day at work, threading your hands through his hair during the late hours of the night – he honestly craved it so much. but, he couldn't be selfish. as generous as you were to him, he was just the same.

levi eventually willed himself to leave the comfort of being bundled in your warmth, planting a tender kiss on the crown of your head and letting it linger for a few seconds. he slowly made his way to the connected bathroom of your shared room, careful with his movements as to not stir you from such a peaceful state.

the lights were dimly lit while he gathered a few damp washcloths that were ran under warm water – courtesy by him, of course. he made his way back to the tousled bed where you continued to lay, tangled in the silk sheets that wrapped around your limbs like vines. sitting down beside you, he nudged at your arm to which you stirred slightly at the contact and finally turning over to direct your gaze onto him.

"hey sleepyhead, let's get you cleaned up hm?" to this, you only nodded as he assisted you in sitting against the headboard so he could begin wiping down your body and massage any sore areas you needed tending to. the warmth of the cloth running against your skin, paired with his own was absolute heaven in itself. you wish you could stay here forever – to be engulfed in a blanket of love filled by your beloved seemed like a perfect way to live for the rest of your days.

he murmured sweet nothings in your ear, never missing the way your lips curled into a smile when his voice replaced the mundane silence.

does anything hurt? no? okay good, just making sure.

and when the time calls for a bath, he'll cradle you cautiously in his arms – one hand on your head and the other arm supporting the rest of your body. he lets you settle in the tub first before joining you shortly after, situating himself behind you with his legs open. you rest your back on his chest as he begins applying shampoo to his palms and massaging it into your scalp.

"this feels so nice, levi."

"yeah?"

"yeah."

being connected with him through sex is already intimate enough, but to be connected with him in times of comfortable silence was another level of intimacy that may as well be on the top of your list of favorite moments with him. the way he handles you with care, looks at you as if your his universe, touches you as if you were fine china.. it was all overwhelming that you could cry of joy.

levi loves like no other – a perfect balance of intensity and gentleness, he'd give you anything and everything if he could. he gives his soul, heart, mind and body to you freely because you own it. while he's never been the best at verbally expressing his love and care for people, he learned through you that it was very much possible for him to do so.

once the two of you are finally laying on the newly changed sheets of your master bed, he pulls you in close enough to hear the soft beat of his heart as you tip your head up to kiss his chin. glancing down at you, he faintly pouts at your gesture and guides your face back up.

"you missed," chuckling in response, you prop yourself further to him and steal one more deep, languid kiss for the night. now, he was satisfied.

this is so so sweet i love this ask!!

levi is a very light sleeper, so even the slightest movement from you would strike him awake at any time. however, it wasn't easy to convince him to sleep in the same bed as you even when the two of you began dating. he was very much adamant that he needed to stay up to finish several documents for erwin, but you maintained your persistence – and just like that, he gave in too quickly.

you noticed how dark his undereyes have gotten and you would gently scolded him for not listening to you sooner about sleeping early. he merely grumbled into your shoulder as you tugged him along and into the shared room in which you mostly slept in – he always ended up falling asleep in his chair until a few hours had passed, you figured his posture must be horrid at this point.

so, you assisted in removing his jacket and loosening a few buttons on his dress shirt. he slipped off his cravat, setting it on his nightstand and slipped under the silky duvet to join you. he laid inches away from you, not making any effort to move closer as he didn't want to seem abrupt.

but, it was when you took his hand into your own that made him avert his eyes onto your tired features and he could feel the tension leave his body – you were just so pretty. his face softened just for you and he couldnt help but ask, "what is it?"

you lightly groaned, half awake and half asleep, muttering the last few sentences that you could manage, "you're too farrr.. come closer, it's freezing you know?"

he chuckled, hesitant and somewhat clumsy at first, "are you sure?"

"of course, my love," you confirmed, rubbing your eyes and inching yourself closer and closer to the warmth of his body.

levi tensed the moment you made full contact with his chest, not even registering the fact that this was really happening. the person he's wanted for all these years was sleeping soundly right by his side because you felt safe enough to do so. he couldn't fathom it, it almost didn't feel real.

though, when he finally moved his arms away from his sides and gently wrapped them around your limp form, it confirmed that this was real and that perhaps he could actually get a good night's rest because of you.

he looked down and upon hearing the quiet breaths that went in and out of your nose, he's never felt more at ease than he is now. he felt the corners of his lips perk up into a small smile that was only ever reserved for you, but since your eyes were closed to notice, he kept it to himself.

from then on, he cherished the nights more than he used to. he'd always been terrified of waking up from another nightmare, but with you by his side, everything seemed a little more okay. he didn't have them as frequently and instead, were replaced by dreams of where you existed in them. your warm smile that had him sinking into the ends of the earth or your tender embraces that had him cling onto the stars.

he got more than just 3 hours of sleep, eventually getting to the point where he could sleep peacefully through the night. he was truly indebted for all that you do, even if you don't realize it.

if there are some nights when he can't fall asleep for any reason, he'll just stay awake, making sure you're at least getting the rest you deserve. it's very grounding for him and it does give him the reminder that you're not going anywhere, you're still alive and well.

he'll word vomit sometimes too – conscious or not. what i mean, is that i can see him sleep talking, but only when he's having a nightmare. when he's awake and can't sleep, he'll just mutter sweet nothings into your ear about how much he loves you, it's very gentle.

"i love you. more than anything in the world, my love."

"my sweet girl. look so pretty like this.."

"for as long as i live, i'm gonna make sure nothing happens to you. i swear it."

and the concept you brought up that if he sings lullabies to help him sleep??! ugh that is just perfect, he most certainly does.

it's mainly songs that his mother used to sing back when he couldn't sleep as a child and it always seemed to work wonders for him every time. it must've been the smooth and calming tone of his mother's voice that put him to rest so easily or maybe it was the comfort it brought him to know that it wasn't all bad – that there was good in the world for him, big or small.

he'd do the same for you, if ever you can't sleep, he'll hum a little tune while you're curled up in his arms – it's a messy collection of different pitches, but nonetheless, the low rumble in his chest and soft ministrations of his hands rubbing your back is enough for you to close your eyes.

as soon as he knows your asleep, he'll kiss your forehead followed by an audible whisper that you're able to make out with the remaining bit of consciousness you had left,

"goodnight sweetheart. see you in the morning."

but i love this concept, it's so innocent and simple – tooth rotting and good 4 the soul !

roommate!levi usually stays up later than you do, finishing up dishes or working on last minute assignments for his classes – and one time you happened to fall asleep on the couch after a long day of work and school.

he had 2 mugs of warm tea ready for another mundane movie night like you always did, but he figured it could wait until tomorrow the moment he saw you laid uncomfortably on the couch. he lifted you carefully from your restless position and tucked you into his bed for the rest of the evening.

for some reason, levi couldn't help but stay a few more minutes by your side, never wavering and never wanting to leave. the way such beauty was constantly in his presence since the day he met you, the entire existence of you surrounding him was something he could never understand – at the same time, he loved and cherished you with all his soul.

his fingers hesitantly brushed up to your face in featherlight touches, pushing away the strands of hair that fell into your eyes. you were molded art, a masterpiece created by the gods.

with absolute yet a tinge of reluctance, levi bent down to your ear and whispered ever so softly 3 words he had been longing to utter to you,

"i love you."

following that, he chastely placed a tender kiss just below your ear where he had spoken. his thumb caressed your jaw in a tender gesture and his eyes continuing to fixate on your sleeping form.

he left as slowly and quietly as he did when he first laid your body down on the mattress, closing the door behind him and opting to sleep on the couch instead.

though, he couldn't have known that the entire time, you had been consciously awake, heart threatening to beat outside of your chest and fighting the urge to kiss him back right then and there.
