The Light of a Golden Moon
Chapter 27: The Light of a Golden Moon
Tía Pepa ftw.
The Light of a Golden Moon
Pepa sat with her husband on the sofa in their room. Félix was unusually gloomy since returning to Casita so Pepa recounted the story of Antonio’s judging of game the kids had been playing earlier. This at least elicited a smile and grunt from him. It was clear he had other things on his mind.
“Tell what you’re thinking, mi amor,” Pepa said as she stretched out on the sofa laying her head in his lap.
“I’m not really thinking, I’m remembering,” he said and gently stroked her hair.
“Oh?”
He nodded and then said, “I was almost three when we fled the village and I truthfully don’t remember much about that place. But the flight through the forest and across the river. The running. The feelings of impending doom, the sounds and smell of it…that’s what I got from the people we talked to tonight. Bits and pieces of that fear. Something terrible is happening outside.
Pepa looked up at the cloud forming above them. She did not want Félix to have to deal with that right now. Irritated, she blew at it as if it were a candle and the cloud immediately dissipated. Pepa just stared at the spot the cloud had recently vacated and caught Félix’s startled expression.
“You’ve learned something new, Corazón?” He asked still stroking her hair, “I like the tiny rainbows at the end, mi vida, nice touch.”
Pepa’s brow furrowed as she remembered the first time she’d done that. She was stuck at home with Mirabel just before Antonio was born. She’d fainted while working and Julieta told their mother, in no uncertain terms, there would be no work for her until the baby came. Her mother conceded but, only just, and had pulled Mira from school to wait on her. Now that Pepa thought about it, that happened far more than it should have. In fact, that week before Antonio came, the kids were getting ready for the spring festival. Mira was supposed to be playing her guitar in the school’s annual talent show. Camilo wasn’t participating that year as he was finishing schoolwork, he’d put off to play fútbol. Mira was sitting near a window looking out at the Encanto and could see the trees starting to bend in the winds she was inadvertently causing because of a contraction she was having.
“Are you alright Tía Pepa? Should I get Mamá?”
“No Mira, just a reminder of what’s to come.” Pepa closed her eyes and took a deep breath as the baby rolled.
“Oh, can I get you anything?”
“No, no,” she said as she twisted into a more comfortable position, “but why don’t you play the song you’ve been practicing? You have such a beautiful singing voice. Maybe it will settle this one,” she said pointing at her stomach. “I’ve only heard bits of it and I think I would love to hear you sing it all, if you don’t mind.”
Mira’s brow furrowed but she quickly stowed that away, smiled as she nodded and picked up her guitar.
“Ah that’s better,” Pepa said when she finished. “Mira, that was delightful. Put this little one right to sleep.”
“Thanks, Tía,” Mirabel said as she set the guitar down.
“Did your Mamá teach you that song?”
“No, I learned it from Abuela, she used to sing it to me when I was little and it just kinda stuck with me.”
More likely, Pepa thought, it was one of the last good memories she had of her Abuela. Pepa waved for Mirabel to come closer. She dutifully came over and knelt next to her. Pepa stroked Mira’s hair, she looked so much like her brother with Juli’s nose and said quite seriously, “Mira, are you really gonna be okay with there being a baby being in the nursery with you?”
Mirabel bit her lip but again she shrugged as she smiled and said, “Sure, I mean, I kinda always wanted a younger brother or sister…”
Pepa saw the hesitation when she answered that gave proof to the lie, but said, “I’m sure this little one will adore you completely. You’re sure to be their prima mayor perfecta.” Mira blushed and Pepa wondered then if Casita could create another room without the door already being there. Truth was nobody ever asked, or more rightly, Mamá never asked. “Well, I’m going make you a promise Corazón. I’ll keep this one,” she said as she waived a hand over her stomach, “in my room until I’m well and sure they will be able to sleep through the night. All you have to do is teach me that song, deal?”
Mirabel smiled and nodded. She picked up her guitar and sat on a cushion near where Pepa was sprawled on the sofa and played the first few chords. Pepa knew the song, but now, at least, her sobrina was no longer moping near the window, wishing she were anywhere else but here. Her irritation with her mother was causing a cloud to form above them and not wanting to get Mira all wet, Pepa blew at it, trying to shoo it away and was amazed when it immediately dissipated. She’d have to remember that trick. She smiled at Mira’s expression of wonder at that small feat of control and said, “Wow, that was amazing Tía. Didja see? Right at the end, there were tiny rainbows chasing away the cloud.”
Pepa came out of her memory when she heard her husband ask, “Pepi, you still in there?”
“Hmmm? Oh, sorry Félix, just remembered something.” Pepa got off the sofa and Félix did as well. “Hopefully tomorrow will give some better answers than we found tonight.”

Ouvindo Pela Primeira Vez - The 1975
Tumblr media
01 - The 1975
Midnight Car lights Playing with the air Breathing in your hair
02 - The City
Yeah, you wanna find love then you know where the city is
The first bit of advice that you gave me that I liked was "They're too strong, too strong"
3 - M.O.N.E.Y.
Tabs with unlimited 0s New clothes Bloody nose Powders and walking back home Has he got enough weed? No Broken phone Retching on the floor alone I can't believe that we're talking about him
Well, I think we better go, Seriously better go Said the feds are here you know Seriously better go, oh, oh,
Linha favorita é o jeito que ele canta "Oh, my car smells like chocolate".
Curiosidade: Sobre Chocolate, o vocalista conta:
If we're gonna do anything we might as well just fuck
And I've been thinking lots about your mouth A conversation superseded by the way he talks I'd be an anchor but I'm scared you'd drown It's safer on the ground
07 - An Encounter
08 - Heart Out
You got something to say? Why don't you speak it out loud, instead of living in your head? It's always the same.
09 - Settle Down
For crying out loud, settle down! You know I can't be found with you We get back to my house Your hands, my mouth Now I just stop myself around you.
But if you just take off your mask You'd find out everything's gone wrong.
"You just sit and get stoned with 30-year-olds and you think you've made it." "Well, shouldn't you be fucking with somebody your age instead of making changes?"
12 - 12
Outro instrumental.
13 - She Way Out
She said "It's not about your body it's just social implications are Brought upon by this party that we're sitting in" And "I'd like to say you've changed but you're always the same. I've got a feeling that the marijuana's rotting your brain"
Because it's 5 past 3, I can hardly see and I'm on the verge of passing out
15 - Pressure
Because I'm living in a house with just three walls So I'm always getting recognized
16 - Is There Somebody Who Can Watch You
I know it's me that's supposed to love you And when I'm home you know I got you Is there somebody who can watch you?
17 - Facedown
He's black and blue and facedown
18 - The City (EP Version)
Blood is on your tongue as well as your hands Archaic and content you just wash them off
A casa é assombrada?
"My name is Eileen, boy that's all you need Oh, and this one's on the house, I don't mind"
In the mornings, I was getting high with you
22 - Undo
Undo me faz querer dançar.
I didn't even see you when I liked you Now I ain't got no time Girl, I wanna see you undo it I wanna see you but you're not mine
E falando do passado, ele sequer enxergava essa garota, e agora é tarde demais. Um padrão, sim.
23 - Sex (Ep Version)
24 - You
It's my party and I'll cry to the end You must try harder than kissing all of my friends
25 - Anobrain
And I was thinking 'bout leaving again It all depends, are we just friends?
26 - Cholate
Mesma música, sem diferença na verdade.
27 - HNSCC
Can we go now? Not staying 'til the end Fall down Write another song about your friends
29 - Me
Oh, I was thinking about killing myself, don't you mind? I love you, don't you mind, don't you mind?
30 - The City (Single Version)
Mesma música de antes.
31 - Haunt/Bed
Well fuck me if you must then Treat me like an old friend I can't exist within my own head So I insist on haunting your bed
32 - So Far (It's Alright)
And how can you complain about life and talk about being bored? If you just sit at Pete's house playing video games, doing sniff that you can't afford
33 - Fallingforyou
Don't you see me? I I think I'm falling, I'm falling for you And don't you need me? I I think I'm falling, I'm falling for you And on this night, and in this light

ILLEGIBLE’S TOTALLY SUBJECTIVE FAVORITE EORZEA COLLECTION DESIGNS: TANKS
NOTE: This was originally going to be a collection where everything was in one post, but it legitimately got so big that the post couldn’t save. And doing by halvesies broke all the links. So instead, I’m going to try and separate it into smaller chunks and see if that works.
I’ve mentioned in the past, the main thing that made me start playing FFXIV properly was seeing people’s character designs. I’m still blown away by the creativity and range of approaches people bring to this game, so I’ve decided to be an absolute madwoman and break my favorites into subcategories to share with anyone curious.
And to be clear. I’m not going to do something so broad as “oh top ten in-general :3″ because that would be sensible. No, I’m going to do it for all the current combat jobs. And all the current races. And different genders within the races and combat jobs as things stand. And I’m going to make a face-focus subcategory. And there are gonna be LOTS. Because I seriously cannot understate how inspired I’ve been by this community, and after however many years I just feel the need to vomit some incredible visuals I’ve encountered at you guys lol.
ANOTHER NOTE: In an abundance of caution, I want to stress this list isn’t a value judgment on anyone but a fragment of things that blew me personally away. Looking at the DRK sections it will be immediately clear that I Illegible really like that edgy dark knight aesthetic lmao, but there are plenty of non-edgy dark knights that I also love to bits. Other people might not like edgy dark knights. Due to a combination of size and search constraints plus trying to keep gear somewhat varied, these glamours are just what wound up on this particular list of mine. I could make another list one day. Other people can make lists too that are totally different.

🎶Música/Musique/
Tumblr media
A friend of mine went on Instagram a few weeks ago and asked her mutuals for international music suggestions.  Naturally, ya neighborhood Black linguist right here responded immediately... despite seeing the post at about 4am her time in Madrid 😭  After having given my friend the lengthy (... or not-so-lengthy) list of artists I listen to on the daily, I decided to make a post about this!  So without further ado, here is my list of artists I listen to, as well as some of my favorite songs by them!  Album titles are in parentheses after the song titles.  And feel free to click on any song title you’d like to listen to!
SPANISH 🇵🇷🇨🇱🇨🇺
Calle 13 🇵🇷
I first came across Calle 13 through Shakira’s song “Gordita” from her album Sale El Sol waaaaaay back in 2010, but it wouldn’t be until my senior year in college (2019) when I started listening to their stuff.  Now I listen to literally ALL of their songs, but some of my favorites are:
“Latinoamerica” Feat. Totó La Momposina, Maria Rita y Susana baca (Entre Los Que Quieran)
“Digo Lo Que Pienso” (Entre Los Que Quieran)
“Muerte en Hawaii” (Entre Los Que Quieran)
“Todo Se Mueve” Feat. Seun Keti (Entre Los Que Quieran)
“El Aguante” (MultiViral)
“Multi_Viral” Feat. Kamilya Jubran, Tom Morello y Julian Assange (MultiViral)
“Cuando los Pies Besan el Piso” (MultiViral)
“Los Idiotas” (MultiViral)
“Perseguido” Feat. Biga Ranx (MultiViral)
“Que Lloren” (Los De Atrás Vienen Conmigo)
“Gringo Latin Funk” (Los De Atrás Vienen Conmigo)
“La Perla” Feat. Rubén Blades y La Chilinga (Los De Atrás Vienen Conmigo)
“Fiesta de Locos” (Los De Atrás Vienen Conmigo)
Residente 🇵🇷
One half of the act Calle 13, Residente made his solo career debut in 2017 with his self-titled album, the album that actually reintroduced me to Calle 13 in 2019.  Residente also has several released singles here and there, some of which being products of collaborations with Bad Bunny and others.  Here are some of my favorites from him:
“Guerra” (Residente)
“Apocalíptico” (Residente)
“Dagombas en Tamale” (Residente)
“Somos Anormales” (Residente)
“El Futuro Es Nuestro” (Residente)
“Bellacoso” Feat. Bad Bunny (Bellacoso - Single)
“Cántalo” w/ Ricky Martin y Bad Bunny (Cántalo - Single)
“René” (René - Single)
Danay Suárez 🇨🇺
In my last semester at my college I took a class called Afro-Latin History, a class I wish I found out about much sooner than I did.  That class seriously had me questioning my choice in major... IN MY LAST SEMESTER!!!  Seriously, EASILY one of the best classes I’ve taken in my entire life, no exaggeration.  ANYWAY (getting of topic, my bad 😅), in one class we were discussing a book called Negro Soy Yo (= Black I Am)  in which the author (Marc D. Perry) relates how hip-hop and rap are used to explore Cuba’s racial structure alignment and how it shifts along with the state’s change from a revolutionary socialist state to one functioning under capitalism.  Being inspired from such an interesting read, I decided to look for more Afro-Cuban musicians to listen to.  Next thing I know, I have Danay Suárez playing in my ear.  My favorite songs from her are:
”Closer Now” Feat. The Idan Raichel Project (Palabras Manuales)
“Integridad” Feat. Stephen Marley (Palabras Manuales)
“Yo Aprendi” (Polvo De La Humanidad)
“Las Bala” Feat. El B. (Palabras Manuales)
Ana Tijoux 🇨🇱
It’s thanks to 2 of my college friends that I learned about Ana Tijoux.  This Chilean rapera (= rapper) came to Scripps – one of the Claremont colleges; I went to Pomona – to give a talk about how she uses her music to communicate her political views (trash talking capitalism... my kind of political view) and to promote social justice, to keep it short and sweet.  These are my favorites from Ana Tijoux:
“1977” (1977)
“Somos Sur” Feat. Shadia Mansour (Vengo)
“Vengo” (Vengo)
“Antipatriarca” (Vengo)
“Creo en Ti” Feat. Juanito Ayala (Vengo)
“Oulala” (1977)
“Cacerolazo” (Cacerolazo - Single)
“Antifa Dance” (Antifa Dance - Single)
Ibeyi 🇨🇺(🇫🇷)
Now discovering Ibeyi happened completely randomly... through a targeted Facebook video placed on my timeline.  It was their music video of the song “Me Voy” featuring Mala Rodriguez that appeared.  No long story here: I watched it, became intrigued, looked them up to find that they’re *AFRO-CUBAN (and French) artists, became more intrigued, searched for and listened to more of their music, and ultimately fell in love with their sound.  The way their voices are so in sync with each other is ethereal; together they sound celestial!  Some of my favorites from them are:
“Me Voy” Feat. Mala Rodriguez (Ash)
“I Carried This for Years” (Ash)
“Deathless” Feat. Kamasi Washington (Ash)
“River” (Ibeyi)
“Behind the Curtain” (Ibeyi)
French 🇧🇪
Stromae 🇧🇪
I can’t exactly remember how I came across Stromae... I believe it was through a childhood friend of mine??  I know for a fact that she did mention him to me at some point before I started actually listening to his songs, but I’m not sure if it was via those conversations how I became motivated to give his music a try 🤔 Either way, I ended liking his music enough to listen to it constantly!  Here’s what kept me listening to Stromae:
“Papaoutai” (Racine Carrée)
OOOOOOOH I JUST REMEMBERED!!! 😃😃😃 It was through Pentatonix’s arrangement of his song “Papaoutai”!  I found myself loving their version and became curious of where they found this song to arrange.  Okay, back to the list:
“bâtard” (Racine Carrée)
“tous les mêmes” (Racine Carrée)
“carmen” (Racine Carrée)
“avf” (Racine Carrée)
“Dodo” (Cheese)
“Peace or Violence” (Cheese)
“Je Cours” (Cheese)
Portuguese 🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷
Flavia Coelho 🇧🇷
I can’t thank God (and app developers) enough for an app like Shazam; if it wasn’t for this magical app, I wouldn’t have found out about Flavia Coelho.  By pure circumstance, I heard her song “Na Favela” on the radio while taking an uber to somewhere while back in college (sometime during senior year) in Southern California (MAN do I miss being out there 😭).  Fast forward to right after graduation, where I find myself in New York City: I'm out here for my college’s glee club tour, for which we had evening performances and free time during the day.  One day, I decided to go running in Central Park, and part of my preparation for any run consists of finding the right music to run to.  Normally I go with fast-paced, up-beat, arrogant rap stuff, but decided that I wanted this run to be an easy-going, enjoyable one – a run in which I’m not trying to improve my pace.  “What better music to listen to than Flavia Coelho’s,” I think.  Plus, it gave me an excuse (and plenty of time) to listen to an artist I recently discovered at the time.  Thanks to the run, I found a few favorite songs by her:
“Na favela” (Sonho Real)
“Se ligue” (Sonho Real)
“Paraiso” (Sonho Real)
“Por Cima” (Mundo Meu)
“Quer Vadiar” (Sonho Real)
“Leidi” (Sonho Real)
“Pai de Santo” (Mundo Meu)
I couldn’t find a more aurally-polished version of the song on youtube, so apologies!
“O Dom” (Mundo Meu)
Sergio Mendes 🇧🇷
Ooooh the great Sergio Mendes.  To be completely honest, there’s not much I can say about him except that I know he’s one of Brazil’s greatest and world-renown musicians... and that I came across him through the Wii game Samba de Amigos.  I couldn’t tell y’all how bad I wanted that game when I was 11... GOOD LORDT, WHEN I was ELEVEN!?  GOODNESS, how time passes! 😱 ANYWAY, there was one song I always played on that game called “Magalenha”.  At the time I didn’t know it was a Sergio Mendes song – when I looked it up, the artist that kept coming up was someone named Bellini and Mendoça do Rio.  So what happens next?  Well of course I download the song (FOR FREE and illegally thanks to L*mew*re... rip) and conduct even further research on those two artists I first found.  All of this searching would ultimately lead me down a web hole that led me to Sergio Mendes.  I admittedly have not listened to enough of his stuff, but here are a few that I currently fancy:
“Fanfarra” Feat. Alceu Do Cavaco (Brasileiro)
“Magalenha” (Brasileiro)
“What is This?” (Brasileiro)
“Simbora” Feat. Carlinhos Brown (Magic)
“Samba de Roda” Feat. Aila Menezes & Gracinha Leporace (Magic)
“One Nation” Feat. Carlinhos Brown (Magic)
“Mas Que Nada” (Mas Que Nada)
Carlinhos Brown 🇧🇷
It’s thanks to Sergio that I came across Carlinhos Brown... now how exactly did I find out about Senhor (=Mr.) Brown through Senhor Mendes, I'm not sure; there were so many opportunities for this to have happened!  I mean, if you take a look at all of Sergio’s music, you’ll find LOADS of collaborations between him and Carlinhos Brown.  Also, bruh, I thought I loved Sergio’s stuff when I stumbled upon it... sorry Sergio, but my love for you doesn’t hold a candle to my LOVE for Carlinhos Brown!  Here are some of my favorites that I still listen to (and futilely try to dance the samba to... can someone teach me please??) on a regular basis:
“Afroascendente” (Marabô)
I couldn’t this song on youtube, so if y’all are subscribed to any music streaming services, look it up on there.  Apologies!
“Vidacarnaval” (Marabô)
“Carlito Marron” (Carlinhos Brown E Carlito Marron)
“Fofoqueira” (Mixturada Brasileira)
“Mixturação” Feat. Ivete Sangalo (Mixturada Brasileira)
“Ói Pra Cá” Feat. Filhos de Gandhy (Ói Pra Cá - Single)
“Mulemba Xangóla” in collaboration w/ Bonga & Marisa Monte (Onda Sonora: Red Hot + Lisbon)
“Ô Vida” Feat. Nina de Freitas (Rio 2: Music From The Motion Picture)
“Sapo Cai” Feat. Mikael Mutti (Rio: Music From The Motion Picture)
Emicida 🇧🇷
Another Afro-descended artist doing his thing, Emicida is one of my favorite types of artists: a conscious rapper.  I know this by looking up translations of his songs... cause ya girl ain’t got NO understanding of Portuguese to be listening to songs and be like “oooh that was clever!” like she does with Calle 13... BUT I’’L GET THERE, THIS I SWEAR!!!  Emicida is still fairly new to me; I found his stuff thanks to Ibeyi (from the Spanish section above).  Regardless, I still have few songs from him I listen to often:
“Libre” Feat. Ibeyi (AmarElo)
“Principia” Feat. Pastor Henrique Vieira, Fabiana Cozza & Pastoras do Rosário (AmarElo)
“Eminência Parda” Feat. Jé Santiago, Papillon & Dona Onete (AmarElo)
“AmarElo (Sample: Sujeito de Sorte - Belchior)” Feat. Majur & Pablo Vittar (AmarElo)
“Hacia El Amor” Feat. Ibeyi (Hacia El Amor - Single)
Japanese 🇯🇵🇯🇵🇯🇵
OOP, what’s that I hear?  It’s ANIME TIME!!!  LOL jk... BUT to be fair, I say this because literally all of the Japanese songs that I listen to come from a bunch of anime series I’ve seen throughout the past 10 years.  So yeah, get ready to experience a bit of my weeb years, heh heh.  I’m gonna categorize the songs by anime series title instead of by artist name:
Fullmetal Alchemist 🦾🙏🏾⚡️
“Melissa” by Porno Graffiti (Porno Graffiti’s Best Blues)
“Ready Steady Go!” by L’arc-En-Ciel (Smile)
“Rewrite” by Asian Kung-Fu Generation (Sol-fa)
“Period” by CHEMISTRY (Chemistry 2001-2011)
“Uso” by SID (SID 10th Anniversary BEST)
“Let It Out” by Miho Fukuhara
“Shunkan SENTIMENTAL” by Scandal (Temptation Box)
 Bleach 🗡💀
“*~Asterisk~” by Orange Range (Natural)
“D-tecnoLife” by UVERworld (Neo Sound Best)
“Ichirin no Hana” by High and Mighty Color
“Alones” by Aqua Times (Darekanochijoue)
“After Dark” by Asian Kung-Fu Generation (World World World)
“Chu-Bura” by Kelun (Kelun)
“Shoujo S” by Scandal (Scandal Show)
“Animarossa” by Prono Graffiti (Trigger)
“chAngE” by Miwa
“Ranbu no Melody” by SID (Ranbu No Melody)
“BLUE” by ViViD (INFINITY)
“Harukaze” by Scandal (Scandal)
“Tsumasaki” by ORESKABAND (ORESKABAND)
“Gallop” by Pe’zmoku
“Haruka Kanata” by UNLIMITS
Soul Eater 💀🎃⛓🗡
“Resonance” by T.M. Revolution
“Papermoon” by Tommy heavely6
“I Wanna Be” by Stance Punks
“Bakusou Yume Uta” by Diggy-MO’ (DX 10th Anniversary All This Time 2008-2018)
“Strength.” by Abingdon Boys School (ABINGDON ROAD)
Kill La Kill 🗡✂️👙
“Sirius” by Eir Aoi
“Ambiguous” by GARNiDELiA (Ambiguous - Single)
“Gomen ne, Iiko ja Irarenai” by Miku Sawai
“Sanbika” by Eir Aoi
Annnnd DONE!  Congrats on making it through this SUPER long post!  Again, this is some of the music in other languages I listen to on a regular basis; you can click on any of the song titles to listen to them in their entirety if you’d like.  Also, if any of y’all have any recommendations on what I should listen to – especially if it’s in Mandarin or French, considering a Mandarin section is nonexistent and the French section is just sad compared to the others 😭 –please reach out!  I’d love to hear what you guys listen to, so let’s start up a little music exchange, yeah?  Cool.  Here’s to finally finishing this post that’s taken me EONS to complete!
乾杯 (gān bēi)! 🥂

“Cabaret” show #804
Tumblr media
Anytime Cabaret is on a theatre company’s season, I get chills. This piece of musical theatre is timeless and timely, comedic and dramatic, romantic and heartbreaking (synonymous?). Sierra Repertory Theatre’s production of this masterpiece, under the sturdy and talented direction of Scott Viets, is a Cabaret where you need to be patient, lean forward in your seat, and literally leave your troubles outside. The payoff to Mr. Viets’ calculated long game of plot and gut-punch payoff is so worth the pace and disconnect between musical number and book scene staging. Where in some contexts this disconnect would detract from the impact, Sierra Rep’s production makes this disconnect precisely what the concept calls for. This is a Cabaret not to be missed.
Tumblr media
(Jerry Lee (Emcee); Photo credit: ClearyVision)
Led by the Emcee, Jerry Lee’s tongue-in-cheek, wink-to-the-audience delivery of the iconic opener “Wilkommen” doesn’t take itself too seriously while still drawing the audience in. It is in this number that the audience can take note that this musical is a true ensemble piece, where no role is more important than another; each role has its part to do and story to tell, but the message dare not be impeded by showmanship or taking the spotlight. This choice pays off in droves throughout the production. Mr. Lee though, not to be misunderstood, takes the stage as the Emcee every time he, well, takes the stage. “Two Ladies” is a frivolous romp of contradictions and promiscuity; “Money” is an excellent patter of social and political commentary, staged flawlessly by choreographer Bryan Knowlton; and Mr. Lee’s turn in “I Don’t Care Much” is a torch song  showstopper if I’ve ever seen one.
Tumblr media
(Center-Jackie Vanderbeck (Sally), surrounded by the Kit Kat Klub Girls; Photo credit: ClearyVision)
Jackie Vanderbeck is a Sally worth studying. Ms. Vanderbeck’s tonality, physicality, and optimism colors her Sally as, to be frank, a drug-addicted alcoholic who has undiagnosed ADHD. Ms. Vanderbeck never loses an ounce of energy of bombarded focus in the book scenes, but her Sally is most calm and focused when at the Kit Kit Klub, performing for her crowd, doing what Sally thinks she does best. “Don’t Tell Mama” and “Mein Herr” are precisely what the audience wants to see and hear, crisp vocal and sensual physicality from Sally and the dancers. But Ms. Vanderbeck starts peeling away the layers in a stirring, vulnerable “Maybe This Time.” Act Two is where Mr. Viets’ direction and Ms. Vanderbeck’s talents come together to crush hearts in the title song that. A showstopper of a song like “Cabaret” has so much expectation behind it, but here is done as raw and emotionally naked as can be, as if it’s the first time it has ever been performed. To cap it all off, the subsequent final book scene following that 11 0’ clock number is a masterclass in a two-hander final scene.
Tumblr media
(Kyle Smith (Cliff) and Jackie Vanderbeck (Sally); Photo credit: ClearyVision)
Kyle Smith is a loveable Cliff, one you want to see succeed while genuinely interested in seeing how difficult and enticing Germany is being to him. He and Ms. Vanderbeck do a swell job in their one duet, “Perfectly Marvelous,” and develop their chemistry on a fast-paced track to heartbreak, calibrated well by Mr. Viets’ staging. Ben Stasny has a more animated turn to Ernst Ludwig which may come across as disingenuous to the character, but certainly conveys that he is, in fact, part of the beginnings of the NAZI Party. Emily Gatesman is a positively domineering Fraulein Kost, having promiscuously-driven comedic turns in each sailor scene she has. To be sure, she has given the due diligence of legit musical theatre chops in a beautifully sung “Married.” Dianne Manaster and Marc Geller are supporting standouts as the #relationshipgoals older couple, Fraulein Schneider and Herr Schultz, respectively. To be sure, this is the love story audiences must take stock in, for it’s in their commitment to each other and commitment to their individual past that colors what a true relationship requires. Ms. Manaster delivers a passionate, vivacious Fraulein, and absolutely nails the comedic contemplation in “So What?” only to tug at the heartstrings, making the audience really feel the anguish in a heartfelt, gorgeously affecting “What Would You Do?” Mr. Geller is a charming, sweet, wise gentleman whose turns in “It Couldn’t Please Me More,” “Married” and its reprise are so well-nuanced and motivated that his optimism of Germany protecting him makes the ending all the more heart wrenching to see develop. There’s true praise to be given when the audience already knows what the ending is, but the character doesn’t, and yet, we are still hoping for something different to happen. Such is the case in Ms. Manaster’s and Mr. Geller’s performance.
Tumblr media
(Marc Geller (Herr Schultz) and Dianne Manaster (Fraulein Schneider); Photo credit: ClearyVision)
Michael Kramer’s two-level set design makes the stage look like a cinematic throne of riches, a place where the audience wants to be, and drink at, and see entertainment at. Mr. Viets and lighting designer Peter Liebold make full use of the excitement the Kit Kat Klub provides in its musical numbers while bringing in the intimate spots for the two-hander scenes. B. Benjamin Weigel’s costumes dress the cast in period, alluring costumes, giving personality to each character before a line or lyric are uttered. This Cabaret takes what Kander/Ebb/Masteroff were trying to say in the 60’s and say it just as loud in 2019. Go see this show!

Cabaret plays through October 27th

Coachella 2019: 10 Ones to Catch (Who Aren’t Ariana Grande or Childish Gambino)
Tumblr media
Coachella set times just dropped, and we can practically taste the watermelon and hear the sounds of some of the best names in music gathered in one place. Set to take place over two weekends in Indio, California, the Empire Polo Fields is about to become a haven for music lovers from around the world. And with all the last-minute planning still left to do (seriously still have to figure out our Coachella outfits), one area you cannot afford to forget about this year is catching the hottest up-and-coming acts.
Well, no need to worry. Your friends at Ones To Watch have combed the lineup for ten acts you need to catch at Coachella 2019 before camping out to catch Childish Gambino or Ariana Grande. And as an added bonus, we went ahead and compiled them all into one helpful playlist just for you.
BLACKPINK
Tumblr media
Genre: K-pop poised for a global takeover When & Where: Friday, 8:00pm at Sahara Tent There are no two ways about it; BLACKPINK is taking over the world, one history-making moment at the time. The first K-pop girl group to play Coachella, BLACKPINK’s set this year is bound to be equal parts jaw-dropping spectacle and illustration of why K-pop is such a global phenomenon. Hot off the release of their YouTube record-shattering music video for “Kill This Love,” it is no wonder why BLACKPINK ranked, alongside Kanye West’s Sunday Service and Childish Gambino and Rihanna’s film premiere, as this year’s not-to-miss Coachella moments. Can’t make it to their set? No need to worry, it will be live streaming everywhere, including Times Square.
youtube
JPEGMAFIA
Tumblr media
Genre: Visceral hip-hop with a lighter side When & Where: Friday, 5:00pm at Outdoor Theatre
JPEGMAFIA is clawing his way up the rap world. The crystallization of punk as an ethos, his sound is undeniably dark but within its shadows, one will find a humor all the more unsettling. Yet, it is a sound that you cannot pull yourself away from. Utterly transfixing, pressing in his often rapid-fire unrelenting style of delivery, JPEGMAFIA’s set is likely to be equal parts uninhibited mosh pit and some of the best rap you will hear all weekend. And the icing on the cake? JPEGMAFIA even has Flume’s co-sign, having featured the Hi This Is Flume (Mixtape).
youtube
Wallows
Tumblr media
Genre: Indie-rock stars in the making When & Where: Saturday, 1:30pm at Mojave  Comprised of Braeden Lemasters, Dylan Minnette, and Cole Preston, Wallows threw their hat in the ring for best indie rock album of the year with the release of their debut album, Nothing Happens. A testament to the band growing up together sonically and emotionally, Nothing Happens is an emotional roadmap to navigating young adulthood. And what better place to hear the idyllic and nostalgic musings of the thoughts and fears that accompany the transition to adulthood than on the polo fields?
youtube
A R I Z O N A
Tumblr media
Genre: Resonant, shimmering alternative pop When & Where: Saturday, 2:45pm at Coachella Stage  A R I Z O N A is set to bring their soaring brand of alternative pop to Coachella this weekend, and we could not be more excited. Beyond being the trio’s Coachella debut, this will also be both the first time we get to hear their latest infectious single “Find Someone” live and catch them live ahead of the Ones To Watch–presented ‘Find Someone Tour.’ From the trio’s noted love of cute animals (especially dogs) to their anthemic, emotionally-driven alternative pop, we could not fathom a reason you would not catch A R I Z O N A at this year’s Coachella.
youtube
HYUKOH
Tumblr media
Genre: Korean indie rock that transcends language barriers When & Where: Sunday, 6:35pm at Sonora BLACKPINK is not the only Asian act at Coachella 2019 to get excited about. This year also sees the inclusion of South Korean post-rock group JAMBINAI and J-pop girl group perfume making their Coachella debut, but one act in particular that we are especially excited to finally have the chance to catch live is HYUKOH. The South Korean indie rock outfit creates fluid-moving jams, sometimes sung in Korean and sometimes sung in English, that no matter the language, leaving you feeling better than before you heard them.
youtube
Smino
Tumblr media
Genre: Hip-hop told through the lens of a visionary When & Where: Saturday, 8:35pm at Gobi     A hypnotic blend of hip-hop, soul, gospel, and R&B, Smino is an artist of irrefutable substance. Nowhere is this clearer than on the critically-acclaimed rapper’s sophomore effort, NOIR. An album where Smino so deftly puts it as dealing with “adult shit,” it is an exceptional showing of an artist at the top of his game. Coachella marks a pit stop on Smino’s ongoing Ones To Watch–presented ‘Hoopti Tour,’ and besides the tour, on the polo grounds is one of the only places you can catch NOIR in all its compelling glory.
youtube
Parcels
Tumblr media
Genre: Groovy pop music that makes you feel When & Where: 8:35pm at Gobi  Parcels is timeless. Their sound has one foot in modern pop melodies, while the other is fully rooted in the groove-inducing classic albums that the Berlin-based, Australian band so clearly adores. The end result? The release of an impeccable self-titled debut album that spans a generation of sonics, all while surging forth with a distinctively human element. And unless any shocking guest appearances happen, this is likely the closest you will get to seeing Daft Punk at Coachella, considering their Draft Punk co-written and produced single “Overnight.”
youtube
Easy Life
Tumblr media
Genre: Pure sun-soaked vibes When & Where: Sunday, 1:10pm at Sonora  Connecting the dots between the gospel-pop of Chance the Rapper and the sun-soaked vibes of Rex Orange County is the multi-instrumental and multi-talented Easy Life. Existing behind an ever-present mellow haze, every one of Easy Life’s tracks play out like you just stepped into your best friend’s ongoing jam sessions. There is an ineffable warmth here that will only be elevated ten-fold come this weekend. If you need further convincing, just check out the UK band’s latest Spaceships Mixtape, which we celebrated as an impressive representation of Easy Life’s evolving sound. Or you could just witness the magic first-hand during Easy Life’s mesmerizing Coachella set.
youtube
Little Simz
Tumblr media
Genre: Kendrick Lamar–approved fusion of hip-hop, soul, jazz, and R&B When & Where: Saturday, 11:00pm at Gobi  “One of the illest doing this right now.” At least that is what Kendrick Lamar had to say about Little Simz, and we cannot help but agree. Praised by the likes of Lamar, Ms. Lauryn Hill, and Gorillaz, the latter of two which both invited her on tour, the English rapper, singer, and actress is about to take Coachella by storm. Flowing between hip-hop, R&B, jazz, and soul with a consistently philosophical edge, we are still not sure if Coachella is quite ready for Little Simz’ phenomenal new Grey Area album. However, one thing is for certain, those lucky enough to catch Little Simz are in store for one of the best sets of their life.
youtube
Polo & Pan
Tumblr media
Genre: The sort of music Coachella was made for When & Where: Friday, 8:00pm at Gobi
If Coachella had a sound, it would be Polo & Pan. A vibrant exotic journey through a constantly evolving cornucopia of sonics, the electronic duo’s music is made to lose yourself in. The duo’s heavenly synthesis of organic and electronic elements unfurls with a life of its own in their debut album, Caravelle, which we championed as having the ability to transport us everywhere from the African Congo to the Brazilian tropical forest. Go ahead and do yourself a favor this Coachella and transport yourself to Polo & Pan’s set to bask in a sound and performance quite like no other.

Unicorn Peak & Cockscomb, Climbing in Tuolumne Meadows
Tumblr media
I really wanted to get Asaka out for a day in the high country, but having a baby made things difficult to say the least. She had finally agreed to join me for a day, so I wanted to make it fun. Mike Toffey was interested in re-climbing Unicorn Peak, so I took this as an opportunity to have someone who was slightly more experienced in rock climbing than me help protect the route. As the trip grew nearer, Mike offered for us to stay at his parent’s place in Groveland, which we were very thankful for. I accepted this invite, presuming it to be a thank you gesture after I let Mike stay at my cabin in Sonora earlier in the year, however this reciprocity was rather lopsided as his cabin in Groveland is much nicer than my stinky cabin. This was a much needed luxury to help Asaka’s transition back into nature.
Yosemite National Park was extorting the public by charging additional fees to drive into our “public” lands. To circumvent this double-dealing, Mike had a backpacking permit that we could use for day use in between the range of dates he had previously selected. I had wanted to get an early start, but we needed to stop at the front gate in order to pick up our daily car permit. Sadly, the fat and lazy racketeers that run this fraudulent operation do not man the gate until 8am, so we would not be able to start hiking until after 9am. This was very stressful for Asaka and me because we thought we would be able to make it back before Leif’s bedtime, and now that might not be the case. We had no choice but to play the cards we were dealt. After an hour of driving we parked at the Tuolumne Meadows Grill where I had a very awkward moment with one of the park employees. He wasn’t dressed as a park employee, but instead in standard camping garb. When he started trying to order me around by telling me not to use the bathroom I threatened to beat him up. It was only after this confrontation that I learned that he was the bathroom cleaner simply trying to unlock the bathroom. Too much stress had built up and needless to say we were off to a bad start.
We started off hiking through Tuolumne Meadows Campground in search of the Elizabeth Lake Trailhead. We ran into a couple from San Francisco at the trailhead marker and learned they had similar, yet much more ambitious plans than us. They planned to attempt a partial version of Peter Croft’s Cathedral Traverse, which climbs Unicorn Peak, Cockscomb, Echo Ridge, Echo Peak #3 and Cathedral Peak, conceding that they probably would not have enough time for the last peak. We hoped to climb the first two peaks of that traverse, so from that point, it was on. There was a clear competitive atmosphere between the two groups as we powerwalked up the trail. Whoever reached Unicorn Peak's technical pitch first would get to set up the ropes first, leading to a huge time advantage. I was very impressed with Asaka because she seemed to be the fastest of all of us even though she hadn’t seriously hiked in over two years. It was an amazingly gradual trail and we reached Elizabeth Lake in less than an hour.
Tumblr media
We contoured around the lake to a meadow while the other group took a higher and more gradual route. We headed for the talus ahead and picked a direct route up the steep slope.
Tumblr media
We had a mix of class 3 scrambling and slabs, which was good terrain to warm us up for the day’s climbing.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
We aimed for the start of the Northeast Face route, which is rated at class 3-4.  The regular route ascends slabs and talus to the north between the north and middle summits. A short class 4 move along an arete leads to the summit.
Tumblr media
We reached the notch at the same time as the other couple. They had stopped before the scramble section and were whispering to themselves, most likely evaluating the route and discussing gear options. We took this as an opportunity to decisively pass them, hoping that we could quickly summit before they finalized their decision. We started the class 3 section, first by climbing around a small tower which was followed by an easy granite staircase with exposure on both sides.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The crux came shortly after. Mike had read about some fingertip traverse which bypasses the top of the ridge on the west side, but we instead chose a direct route atop the ridge. There was a solid hand hold atop the rock above us, and a big lunge of a move with feet high on a slab could get one up, but the momentum of the move does carry one's body over some exposure. It was somewhat of a leap of faith, but the chance of losing grip of the hold was small. Mike did it first, and Asaka followed afterwards while I spotted her. Now the pressure was on me. Everyone was watching, which made me a little nervous, but with a big grunt, I was able to mount the boulder. It definitely helped that I was tall, so kudos to Asaka for handling it in style.
Tumblr media
After that it was an easy scramble to the summit. I had the best view.
Tumblr media
Nice job team!
Tumblr media
Register placed by Mike Toffey of the restaurant server club.
Tumblr media
To the south were Mt Althuski and Cockscomb. We asked Asaka if we could continue to those two peaks. She wasn’t very enthusiastic about it, wanting to return home after climbing the day’s main objective, however it was still early in the day so she agreed to continue.
Tumblr media
To the southwest were Matthes Crest and Echo Ridge.
Tumblr media
To the northwest was Cathedral Peak.
Tumblr media
To the north was Tuolumne Meadows.
Tumblr media
To the northeast were Mt Conness and Mt Dana.
Tumblr media
To the southeast was Mt Lyell.
Tumblr media
The other group was still standing at the notch. We asked if they wanted us to throw them a rope, but they declined. Not wanting to waste any time, we began our traverse back to the notch.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
When I reached the crux, I simply jumped down off the huge step. It was a big drop but the landing surface was flat and I have long legs. Asaka wasn’t able to jump down, so instead I instructed her to slide down onto my shoulders. In retrospect, this was probably not very safe, as there was some decent exposure on either side. If I were to somehow tip over, it could spell disaster. Thankfully I was able to maintain control of both of our bodies and lowered her down without incident.
Tumblr media
Once back at the notch the other climbers were gone. We all found that very odd, considering they had a bunch of gear and the pitch was relatively easy, essentially being one move of class 4. We climbed the middle summit of Unicorn Peak next, and saw them walking over to Cockscomb. Puzzling. From there we had a class 2 walk up to the sub peak that is referred to as Mt Althuski.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Asaka and Mike both beat me up this peak, so rather than resting I continued to keep moving once I reached the top. We had a nice ridge walk over to the base of Cockscomb. Asaka was asking Mike a lot of questions in what appeared to be an effort to judge his character. This was the guy who her husband had been going off with for the past several months, so it was only natural for her to try and learn more about this unfamiliar contemporary of mine. The big takeaway from the discussion was that Mike knew how to compromise as a hiking partner.
Tumblr media
We studied the potential route options as we walked. The Roper guide suggests a class 4 route on the west side, which was not visible from our vantage point. A class 5.0 route called the Spiral Staircase was visible from our vantage point, winding up the northwest side of the peak. Mike was interested in a more direct route up the granite flakes slightly to the left of that.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Once at the base, we decided to harness up and try one of the more technical routes. Mike picked his line, for which I belayed from the bottom.
Tumblr media
What to me looked like an easy route was apparently harder than it appeared. I could hear Mike cuss and grunt as he tried to find a way directly up the flakes. He seemed scared, which made me and Asaka worried. It got to a point where we were running out of rope length, and to save time we really wanted to do the climb in one pitch. Once Mike found a secure ledge, I yelled at him to hold tight, then I scrambled up some class 3 blocks to a higher belay ledge. It was not by the book, but it worked because from there, Mike was able to attack the crux of the climb, a 5.8 off-width crack, with enough rope to spare. I was glad to see Mike reach the summit. Once he set an anchor, we had Asaka go next.
Tumblr media
As it usually is with climbing, the whole process was very slow, so I wondered if I could free solo the Spiral Staircase while Asaka climbed. I figured I would go as high as I felt comfortable, and if I got stuck, Mike could throw me a rope.
Tumblr media
The climbing must have in fact been harder than it looked because Asaka was struggling on her ascent. Asaka would later confirm that her route was harder than 5.6. Meanwhile I felt in complete control. I had my climbing shoes on, which make the rock feel very sticky. I would take it one move at a time, and just when it looked like I would be stopped, another ledge would appear. The rock was extremely solid, and I felt very comfortable even without a rope.
Tumblr media
I had slowly progressed from the face of the northwest aspect over towards the ridge. Here again I found reasonable moves with bomber holds, and while there was serious exposure, the climbing itself wasn’t that hard. I eventually made it to the base of the crux crack at a notch. I waited for Asaka here thinking that I would need a rope from here to make the summit. Asaka was taking longer than me because she went up a crack initially that she had to downclimb due to difficulty above. She was now on her second crack, and I encouraged her from above until she finally reached my position. She then attempted the crack which looked pretty difficult. One thing was certain; she would not be able to do it quickly. Since I had time to spare, I decided to take a look around the ledge system to my right. Lo and behold, this ledge wrapped all the way around the western side of the peak and connected to the standard class 4 route. I was now in a higher notch between two summits. Mike was belaying from the western summit, so I decided to climb the eastern summit first. With sticky shoes and solid rock, I was able to climb this pinnacle without a rope. To the southwest were Matthes Crest and Matthes Lake.
Tumblr media
To the west were Echo Ridge and Cathedral Peak.
Tumblr media
To the northeast were Tioga Pass, Mt Dana and Mt Gibbs.
Tumblr media
To the southeast were Mt Lyell, Mt Maclure and Mt Florence.
Tumblr media
Shortly after I spotted Asaka’s head poke through some rocks atop the crack. She had surmounted the crux.
Tumblr media
She scampered around the corner and made her way to the summit. It appeared that the western summit was the higher of the two points.
Tumblr media
Mike then lowered Asaka down to the notch and broke down his anchor.
Tumblr media
From there I carefully downclimbed to the notch and free soloed the western summit.
Tumblr media
Clouds Rest and the tip of Half Dome were visible down the watershed.
Tumblr media
I followed this by downclimbing back to the notch where Asaka was coiling the rope.
Tumblr media
Cathedral Peak and Budd Lake
Tumblr media
From there, we followed the standard class 4 route off the peak. As we began our careful downclimb, we spotted the couple from earlier roped up on some class 3 section towards the base. I had almost forgotten about them. We chose not to rope up for the downclimb, so we were all pretty focused on our own situation. By the time we had descended the pitch, the other two climbers were gone. We spotted them later on the way to Echo Ridge. Just what was this couple doing? We had a good laugh amongst ourselves. The High Sierra is a little more daunting than the local climbing gym I suppose. From there we had a sandy walk around some towers back to the base of the route where we left some of our gear.
Tumblr media
We were elated to have completed such a fun climb. Mike decided to name his route “Compromise” to acknowledge his strength as a climbing partner.
Tumblr media
From there we picked a route that would bypass Mt Althuski on the right. Following the path of an ancient glacier eventually deposited us back at Elizabeth Lake. I would stop every now and then to take in the striking peak. It’s a wonder how such a fantastic nunatak is not included on any of the major Sierra Nevada climbing lists.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Once back at the lake, we began a brisk jog down the trail. With phone in pocket and climbing gear on waist, Mike repeatedly slammed his cams against his upper thigh area, inadvertently shattered his phone's screen in the process. We passed by a sneaky ranger, looking for any opportunity to ticket someone, and we were out to the car by lunch time. It was only 10.5 miles but Asaka and I were pretty tired. We still had an outside chance to see the baby before bed. We dropped off Mike somewhere along Highway 120 where he would camp illegally for the next couple nights. Afterwards I sped down Highway 120. Asaka was regretting going on the trip the whole day, but when we made it back home while the baby was still awake, everything became right in the world. The quick nature of the trip would make even the most vehement weekend warrior blush, but for what we were trying to achieve, our trip was a big success, and I’m thankful that Asaka sacrificed some time away from her precious baby to spend a fun day climbing with her husband.

Police Chief Wayne Unser was the kind of dirty cop whose righteous side often clashed with his immoral side. Though he worked together with the motorcycle club/gang SAMCRO, he never accepted money from them, insisting he wasn't in their pocket (even though he really was). He thus struggled a lot financially while still doing plenty of illegal things.
RELATED: Meet Mr. Mayhem: 10 Unique Sons Of Anarchy Terms & Their Meanings
At first, Unser believed that SAMCRO's presence in Charming helped prevent the influx of drugs and violence but this proved to be a misguided view because there was plenty of chaos during the 7 seasons. However, Unser continued to work with the motorcycle club while juggling between good deeds and bad ones.
*Content Warning: This list includes discussions of sexual assault.*
10 Good: Arresting Clay, Ernest Darby, And Marcus Alvarez
Tumblr media
The gang violence in Charming threatened to get out of hand in Season 1 so Unser decided to arrest Nordics leader Darby, SAMCRO President Clay, and Mayans MC President Alvarez. Darby also got a much-deserved punch for making fun of Unser's Black wife, Della.
Unser organized a sitting between Clay and Alvarez inside a jail cell and made the two leaders agree on a truce. It was a more logical move than arresting all the gang members in Charming because there were simply too many. By doing this, Unser managed to bring peace to Charming once again, albeit temporarily.
9 Dirty: Helping Gemma Keep The Sexual Assault Incident A Secret
Tumblr media
Early in Season 2, Gemma was sexually assaulted by three Aryan Brotherhood members who had been given orders by LOAN boss Ethan Zobelle. The men gave Gemma a message to give to Clay but she chose not to do that because she knew it would start a war and that's what LOAN wanted.
Unser found out what happened but chose to go with Gemma's plan not to do anything about it. This was shocking on his part considering that sexual assault is a serious offense. Instead, he helped Gemma crash her vehicle and make it look like she had sustained her injuries from an accident.
8 Good: Looking Out For Candy
Tumblr media
When police showed up to stop a heroin deal between SAMCRO and the Aryan Brotherhood in Season 7, one of the officers named Candy Eglee got seriously injured during the shootout. She was thus admitted to the hospital.
RELATED: Sons Of Anarchy: 10 Hidden Details About The Characters' Wardrobe
Despite Candy no longer being part of Unser's team, he visited her daily at the hospital just to check up on her and protect her. This proved to be a wise decision because Aryan Brotherhood street boss Leland Guen showed up days later at the hospital to murder Candy in order to keep her quiet. Unser managed to kill Leland before he could cause any harm.
7 Dirty:  Covering Up Clay's Murder Of Piney
Tumblr media
At times, it felt like Unser was obsessed with protecting Clay and not just the Sons. It wasn't long before he found out that Clay and Gemma had a part to play in John Teller's demise. He was angry but he still didn't take serious action. He then found out that Clay had killed Piney but chose to do nothing.
Instead, Unser agreed to go with Clay's fictional story that blamed the Lobos Sonora cartel for the crime. By doing this, he extended Clay's stay at the top of SAMCRO. Though he would later confess to Opie about what happened, a lot of damage had already been done.
6 Good: Going To Arrest Gemma
Tumblr media
As soon as it emerged that Gemma was the one responsible for Tara's death and not the Lin Triad, Jax made it his mission to locate her and exact revenge. Unser knew that events would play out like this so he tried to locate Gemma too. His intention was to arrest her instead of letting street justice play out.
Unser's decision was partly motivated by his long-term crush on Gemma, not really the need to abide by the law. However, it was still what a good cop should do since the law calls for all suspects to be tried and sentenced before any justice can take place. Sadly, this decision cost Unser his life as Jax killed him for insisting on arresting Gemma.
5 Dirty: Covering Up The Gogo And Greg Killings
Tumblr media
This was yet another incident of Unser sticking up for Clay. As soon as it was revealed that the former Nomads Greg, Gogo, and Frankie were responsible for the numerous break-ins in Charming, it was also revealed that Clay had been puppeteering them. During a chat between Clay and Unser, Gogo and Greg showed up.
RELATED: Sons Of Anarchy: 10 Storylines The Show Dropped
Clay fired at them to cover his tracks while Unser fired in self-defense. Given how the incident played out, Unser could have easily let Clay go down for the crime but he refused to cooperate with fellow officers who were investigating the incident.
4 Good: Letting Roosevelt Know About The Threat On Tara's Life
Tumblr media
After the Charming Police Department was absorbed into the San Joaquin County Sheriff's Department, Roosevelt took over as the new police boss. Shortly after that, Unser found out about JT's letters. Clay's discovery made him go out of control and he was willing to do anything to bury the secret. This meant killing Tara.
Unser thus let Roosevelt know about an anonymous threat to Tara's life. He also wrote a fake death threat and left it in Tara's car just so she'd be put under constant surveillance.
3 Dirty: Telling Gemma About Jax And Tara's Deal
Tumblr media
In Season 7, Jax and Tara made a deal with DA Patterson. Jax would turn himself in and Tara would have full immunity hence she'll be free to leave Charming. Such deals are supposed to remain a secret until they are actualized. However, Unser rushed to tell Gemma that Tara had made a deal, even though Gemma didn't need to know.
This was yet another incident of Unser using his status irresponsibly. As a result of his actions, Gemma thought Tara was ratting on SAMCRO, hence she killed her.
2 Good: Sabotaging June Stahl
Tumblr media
Law enforcement officers are supposed to work together but ATF agent June Stahl didn't care about Unser's work. She didn't care that Unser's efforts to keep the gangs on good terms were instrumental in bringing peace to Charming. Her only focus was on taking down SAMCRO, no matter who she hurt.
RELATED: Sons Of Anarchy: 10 Best Non-SAMCRO Bikers
Stahl thus framed Opie to look like an informant. In return, Unser made it his mission to sabotage Stahl. He tasked Hale with revealing that Opie was innocent. Sadly, the information came too late and people died as a result. He also let Jax break out Cherry, who Stahl was tried to use as an informant.
1 Dirty: Setting Up Stahl And Jimmy O'Phalen To Get Killed
Tumblr media
It was understandable for Unser to hate Agent June Stahl but letting her get killed felt like something a gangster would do, not a police officer. In the Season 3 finale, Unser stopped Stahl's escort of True IRA street boss Jimmy O, lying that Jimmy's men were waiting down the road to free him.
Stahl's backup went to check out if Jimmy O's men were indeed down the road. This gave Chibs and Opie the chance to execute Stahl and Jimmy O.

SasuSaku and violence against women
I'm sick of SasuSaku's comments and theories, that's why it's violence against women. "Sasuke tried to kill Sakura because he was immersed in the dark" now we compare it. "My husband was stressed from so much work and he hit me but he did not want "Do you see any difference? If one is SasuSaku and the other is a sentence I heard from a woman struck by her husband. It's a shonen Kishimoto was not forced by Sasuke to try to kill her. 3 TIMES, one is good to give dramatics. But three? What did he want to do ?, scenes that For the simple mortal of Kishimoto was easy to omit or introduce despite the little romantic sense you have, you know the right and what not if you do not accept that ethics is not important. More than the crazy theories that exist on both sides is the truth without our interpretation is something like this "Sasuke talks about the dream of the real Sakura this being already inconvenient" What was it? The recipient of the message is not there to receive it. For what purpose? Because to make an Anti in your history if there is going to be for the next generations there is as it finished. Mentally Misconceived Mentality Psychologically Proven "People change for Love" "Love forgives everything" I do not say it I say psychologists, if Kishimoto had not even a little idea how to make a love or romantic story Why? Why give in to the belief of society? Forgive is not bad and much condition love with forgiveness "If you love me you will forgive me" when it is a psychological game used by men mostly, the rates in Mexico of dating violence has grown considerably, it is usually because one plays the role Of submissive and he deceives itself to create a world of illusions, something like the theories SasuSaku (Clarifying NaruSaku in the real plane I am dealing with is left on the first level) while SasuSaku at the highest level with threats, psychological violence and assassination attempts according to a thermometer of violence from the University of Sonora. Messages for girls, the saddest thing is that they are the ones who follow this couple is more sad than anything, girls who have ideals of love typical fairy tale, (not bad) but love forgives all or that a pardon And a thank you is all you need to be forgiven they are the FUTURE GIRLS KNOCKED not because you support the couple will actually be so girls you might just like them for aesthetics, the SASUSAKU CAN BE ALL EXCEPT A COUPLE, they can Being lovers, friends etc. But not in romantic aspect, all theories are the same is selfishness on either side you see where you see them, "that Sasuke needed his revenge" "that Sakura loves him" ... and a long list, teaches that if you Love does not matter, if it repels you, if you do not take it seriously if you've been insisting maybe a year Give in and I left you later? Kishimoto needed to do that? He did not need to take Sasuke away from his family if SasuSaku was, the story was so open that anything fit, while the NaruHINA and the SasuSaku give their partner a reality approach if another person gives them a realistic approach to ALL ASPECTS, still shit I think some people forget that it is fiction and there is nothing written, their partners could always be love and sweetness but Kishimoto did not want the same as the ones who made canon who knows why ... Try to make a realistic couple Does not apply because if it were realistic Sakura would be dead and Hinata would have died ignored since the harassment is a crime not love.

Summer Chill-Out - US road trip recap
How this all started
I was sitting in Tucson during June 2017, enduring a major Arizona heatwave. It hit 115 degrees in Tucson, and the only saving grace was that we weren't in Phoenix, which got up to 124!
I'd been trying to work on some Zennie projects, but it was so dang hot that by 8am it was already too much for me. And work goes slowly doing 2 hours a day!
Eventually, I came to my senses and said to myself: "Girl, why are you still here? Does your house not have wheels?"
Uh, yeah. It was definitely time for a US road trip!
My first thought was to get to some mountains, FAST, in search of high elevations, tall pine trees, and brisk alpine air. What a heavenly thought, when you're sweltering the days away in the Arizona summer heat...
Ah... to be up in the cool mountain air again!
The Road Trip Plan
Road trip theme: Chill out!
My major goal was to escape the heat and get into the mountains.
This is the advantage of having a mobile lifestyle -- the chance to go wherever the weather is good, rather than having to endure a place you'd rather not be.
You can work WITH the weather, turning it to your advantage. High Colorado mountains in the summer, sunny Arizona deserts in the winter. Living in Zennie means I can travel with the seasons, like migratory tribes of days gone by.
But any smart migratory tribes would have been long gone and it was time for me to get moving!
Looking at maps - one of my favorite activities!
I pored over maps (one of my favorite things to do!), and decided to head east to New Mexico. I thought maybe a couple of weeks around Ruidoso and Cloudcroft would make a nice Summer Chill-Out getaway.
And I'm sure that's true -- they would have made a nice cool getaway! But things didn't turn out quite the way I envisioned...
The Road Trip Reality
Instead of 2 weeks in southern New Mexico, I ended up spending 84 days in 5 western states. And in all that time, I never did make it to Ruidoso and Cloudcroft!
I got off track almost immediately, detouring up to Taos to meet a friend. Other detours took me to Pagosa Springs and Durango to meet friends, and up to Wyoming for the solar eclipse.
Detours or not, for most of this road trip, the "Chill-out" theme worked well. I meandered through the mountains of New Mexico, Colorado, and Wyoming, enjoying spectacular scenery and nice cool temperatures. The days were delightful!
BUT... At that point in 2017, there was a lot of news about Bears Ears National Monument being on the chopping block. People said that the Trump administration would probably decide to eliminate it or scale it way back.
So, I decided I had to go there IMMEDIATELY!
Who cares if it's still 100+ degrees in Utah? I may never get this chance again, so it's back into the furnace we go...
Utah is amazing, but HOT this time of year! So much for "chill-out"!
The Road Trip Route
As you can see from the map, this is a meandering route, which bears little resemblance to a path somebody would plan for getting from one place to another!
Route for Zennie's 2017 "Summer Chill-Out" road trip
I was really playing it by ear, deciding week by week and day by day where to go next. This is my favorite way to travel, staying open to opportunities, and making last-minute decisions. It's a lot of fun, but nobody would say it's an efficient way to cover the miles!
Top 3 Highlights
Total eclipse at the Tetons. The total solar eclipse of 2017 was in many people's travel plans this summer, as it traveled all the way across the United States. Folks from around the country flocked to places in the "Zone of totality" for the event.
. I tried to resist. I had this sinking feeling that I'd drive all the way from southern Colorado up into Wyoming to see the eclipse, only to find that it was raining that day and we couldn't see a thing.
2 photos about 15 min apart: before and during the total eclipse
Eventually, I decided to go anyway, though my expectations were low. Was I ever wrong!! Our location right outside Grand Teton National Park provided a spectacular backdrop, and the eclipse itself was amazing! It's one of the most memorable events I've seen. . And Zennie got to hang out with her special friend George, too!
Zennie and her friend George got in on the eclipse action, too!
Bears Ears and Canyonlands. Utah has some of the most amazing scenery anywhere! I'm including these two areas together because of the overlap. At the moment (before any chopping of Bears Ears by the current government), Canyonlands National Park shares a border with Bears Ears. In fact, when I was visiting Canyonlands, little did I realize that a couple of my favorite boondocking sites right outside the park were actually in Bears Ears!
Overlooking Canyonlands, from a perfect boondocking spot in Bears Ears
Anyway, both of these areas feature beautiful twisty canyons, incredible rock formations with spires and bridges, and amazing hiking (as you might imagine)! Bears Ears also has a wealth of historic sites with ancient ruins and cliff dwellings. . I could happily spend a month or more exploring this corner of Utah. There is a ton to see, and more hiking trails than I'd get to in a lifetime. But next time, I'll pick a cooler month!
A month in New Mexico. Before I started hightailing it north to meet friends in Colorado, I was just meandering for a month around New Mexico. I started in the Gila area in the southwest corner, and went all the way to a ghost town with family ties in the northeast. . But most of the month was spent looping up, down, and all around northern New Mexico and the area around Santa Fe and Taos. I found myself back at Wild Rivers (Rio Grande del Norte National Monument) a few times, since I like it so much that every time I went near, it drew me in with its powerful magnetic force. I'm pretty sure I'll be back there again someday, perhaps for some backpacking!
At Wild Rivers, sitting on the rim of the Rio Grande Gorge
Top Lowlight
This was a tough decision....
* Should I pick the fact that the solar panels failed and had to be replaced? My theory is that they were damaged by the expansion of the metal roof in Tucson's extreme heat wave, but that's another story...
* Or perhaps the blowout on a lonely highway in Utah, which also bent my exhaust and bashed in a storage compartment? If it wasn't for that good samaritan who helped me out, but that's another story...
Nope, the winner for Top Lowlight is (drum roll)...
A mouse! And then another, and another... I had Zennie about a year before getting the first mouse in my house, but there it was. It's hard to explain why this is worse than a blowout, but it totally freaked me out, having this furry little creature sharing my space!
Yikes! There is a mouse in my motorhome!
I had a real battle on my hands to get rid of the mouse in my RV. And once I finally got rid of the first mouse, another appeared a couple of weeks later, and then another less than a week after that! . I had to learn a lot about mouse removal and prevention, which I wish had never been necessary. Just thinking about it now gives me shivers down my spine, and I seriously hope to never have to deal with this again. I've put in quite a bit of mouse prevention work, but in spite of my best efforts, there will probably come a day when I hear those furtive little noises in the night. No, please no!
Key places
Gila National Forest. This is a large national forest in southwestern New Mexico, and it's one of my favorites. It's high enough to be significantly cooler than the lowlands, though there aren't the altitudes you see in Colorado. The Gila River and its branches run through, and there are many miles of hiking trails to explore. A few of the places I camped in the Gila were Cattlemen Trail, The Forks, and Apache Creek.
Cliffs rise above the Gila River
Carson National Forest. This forest covers a large swath of northern New Mexico, and I looped around it a few times. The High Road from Santa Fe to Taos passes through this forest, and much of the area north of Taos is part of it, too. The mountains are higher up here, and once again, there's enough here to explore that it could take forever.
Sweet little boondocking spot in New Mexico's Carson National Forest
Great Sand Dunes National Park. When I think of Colorado, I see snow-capped peaks of the Rocky Mountains. But oddly enough, in this one portion of the mountain chain, the area below the peaks is full of giant sand dunes. These look like they should be in the Sahara, not the Rockies! It's a unique and special place, and certainly worth a visit.
View from the top of the High Dune
Grand Teton National Park. Simply spectacular! I'd only been here in the winter before, so this was my first chance to get up close and personal with the mountains and do some hiking. Even if the eclipse had been rained out as I feared, it would have been worth the trip up here just for the hiking and wildlife viewing. I saw moose, bear, bison, coyotes, deer and antelope. The mountains themselves are stunning, and it was some of the most gorgeous hiking I've done in years.
Hiking in Grand Teton National Park was simply stunning!
Canyonlands / Bears Ears. I talked about these above, and don't have much more to say except that they are amazing! I believe that the special features of Bears Ears deserve the National Monument protections that they currently have, and I'm so sad that it seems it will be dismantled soon. I'd rather see these beautiful places protected for the public's enjoyment, wildlife and historical preservation, and future generations, than opened up for mining companies. I'm just glad I got to see it before that happens.

Find out what makes a KB Home special, and how our homes could be a great option for your family. Today we’re visiting Mountain Vail Reserve II in the Tucson desert.
Love Where You Live
Tumblr media
The warm arid weather and gorgeous surroundings are what attract many people to Tucson. Mountain Vail Reserve is surrounded by the Rincon, Catalina and Santa Rita Mountains which appeals to outdoor enthusiasts looking to enjoy the natural wonders of the Arizona desert. Attractions include horseback riding, rock climbing, hiking, biking and camping. Be sure to stop by the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum or visit the Botanical Gardens to really get a taste for the desert wildlife, flora and fauna. Mountain Vail Reserve provides easy access to the I-10 freeway, and is close to Phoenix and tourist must-sees like, Tombstone.
The Mountain Vail Reserve community is in the Vail school district, and is within walking distance to the top-rated Esmond Station K-8 school, which is an important factor for many parents looking to for the right neighborhood to settle their family. Tucson is a college town, and is home to the University of Arizona, so members of the Mountain Vail Reserve community can show their Wildcat pride and “bear down” during football and basketball seasons.
If you’re looking for a vibrant city culture then look no further than the downtown Presidio district where you’ll fall in love with the old town charm, and, of course, Sonoran style Mexican food. We suggest checking out El Charro, supposedly one of the oldest family-owned Mexican restaurant in the country. Stroll down 4th Avenue and take advantage of the cool bars and restaurants or, check out Congress Street where you’ll find art museums, theatre and music venues. Make a stop at the Hotel Congress for a drink – apparently, the venue has a resident ghost (!)
Make it Your Own Home with Flexible Floorplans
Tumblr media
At Mountain Vail Reserve, there are five floorplans for you to choose from: Two of which are one-story, and three two-story plans. The best way to get a sense for the homes is to stop by our sales office for a tour of the models, but we also have virtual tours that allow you to take a tour from the comfort of your own home, or interactive floorplans where you can have too much fun playing with furniture placement. The models range in square footage from 1,465 up to 2,657 and have anywhere from three to six bedrooms depending on whether you have a large family, or are downsizing your living space. All our models have generous open floorplans which are perfect for entertaining family and friends. Step outside and enjoy our covered patios which allow you to enjoy the desert heat while still staying cool in the shade.
All our models have laundry rooms, two-car garages and generous walk-in closets.
Tumblr media
One of the benefits of building with KB Home is that our sales staff and construction team will be with you throughout the entire building process. Whether its pre-construction, drywall, orientation walk-throughs, and, of course, the most fun part of the process…the Design Studio; our team will be with you 100% of the way.
A Bigger Home Doesn’t Mean Bigger Bills
In the hot desert heat, energy bills are an understandable concern. At KB Home, we take energy-efficiency seriously, and that’s why all our homes are ENERGY STAR® qualified. In our models, we offer high performance windows and insulation options, as well as, LP TechShield® radiant barrier roofs, which could keep your monthly cooling costs low. For more information on our commitment to reducing our environmental impact, you can read more here.
Find the right home for every stage of your life at Mountain Vail Reserve. Are you interested yet? Swing by our sales office for a chat with one of our friendly sales counselors during business hours. We hope to see you around the neighborhood very soon.

ILLEGIBLE’S TOTALLY SUBJECTIVE FAVORITE EORZEA COLLECTION DESIGNS: FEMALE
I’ve mentioned in the past, the main thing that made me start playing FFXIV properly was seeing people’s character designs. I’m still honestly blown away by the creativity and range of approaches people bring to this game, so I’ve decided to be an absolute madwoman and break my favorites into subcategories to share with anyone curious.
NOTE: In an abundance of caution, I want to stress this list isn’t a value judgment on anyone but a fragment of things that blew me personally away.
Also, I was originally going to make a single post that went over male and female options presented in the character creator but straight up tumblr wouldn’t let me save because it got too big. You can see the male character post here.
Without further ado, let us begin.

Harmonic Wave
#housemusic Lorenzo Dada returns to his own Sonora Records with a fantastic new EP that fuses classical piano, acoustic sounds and electronic grooves in soothing ways across five captivating cuts.  Formally trained classical pianist Dada studied at the prestigious Conservatory of Saint Cecilia in Rome. Since then he has used his playing chops to inform his atmospheric deep house on labels like Culprit, No.19 and Get Physical. As well as playing from OFF Sonar to BPM, the Italian has also been a resident for Goa Ultrabeat at Goa Club in Rome since 2014, and is now picking up a deserved reputation wider afield round Europe.  Says the artist ”I usually write on my Yamaha Silent Piano and then add in using my Sub37, Roland Boutiques and Microkorg.” His simple approach is hugely effective.  With the impressive title track ‘Harmonic Wave’, Dada combines classical composition and electronic music with an analogue recording process. It makes for a seriously heady and hypnotic deep house track with driving but slick drums, subtle little hooks and molten synth daubs. Masterfully manipulating acoustic sounds from a piano once more, ‘Don’t Be Late’ dips into mind melting minimal house territory. Pained vocals drift in and out and super sad chords warp round electronic sounds to Villalobos style effect.  The absorbing ‘Analog Dream’ is a perfectly deep roller cocooned in warm throbbing bass that’s perfect for 5am in intimate basements. The broken beats of ‘Blissful Train’ then make for a suspense-filled track that elevates you with its subtly ascending chord vamps. Last of all, ’The Rescue’ then gets a little trippy with squelchy modular synths sounding like chatting aliens. Again a gorgeous piano element lingers in the background and brings a thoughtful air to the groove.  This is standout EP of deep electronic music that brings real freshness to the party.  Tracklist: 1. Harmonic Wave 2. Don’t Be Late 3. Analog Dream 4. Blissful Train 5. 5 Crazy Cool Activities to Try on Your Next Vacation
Horseback riding, kayaking, snorkeling, mountain biking, cooking classes — these are all fun activities frequently offered at my favorite resort destinations around the world. But for ultimate bragging rights and to one-up frenemies at your next cocktail party, go big or go home with these one-of-a-kind adventure-packed activities on your next vacation.
1. Go on a Grizzly Bear Safari in British Columbia
Newsflash: you don’t need to go to Africa to go on safari. There are plenty of incredible destinations where you can spot exotic wildlife right here in North America. For instance, one of my most memorable experiences was being on an elk safari in Jackson Hole, Wyoming. For a real adrenaline rush, head to the beautifully remote Sonora Resort in British Columbia to get up close and personal with grizzly bears. Visit from late August through October for the chance to see the bears feasting on spawning salmon in the Orford River.
2. Keep Warm in Style While Ice Fishing in Quebec
Fly fishing is for amateurs. If you’re really tough, brave the cold and try reeling in a fish with numb fingers over a frozen lake. Quebec’s Manoir Hovey makes it a more luxurious pursuit than usual, drilling a hole in the ice for you and giving complimentary lessons while you sip hot beverages and chow on thin-crust seafood pizza that’s cooked in an oven on skis (seriously). You might catch perch, pike or bass, but you’ll have to release them. Not to worry though, you won’t go hungry at the Relais & Châteaux property’s Restaurant Le Hatley post-fishing trip.
3. Strap in and Become a Pro Baja Truck Racer for a Day in Colorado
Several resorts in Colorado have partnerships with luxury car brands like Porsche (Rancho Valencia) or Lexus (The Allison Inn & Spa) so guests can take a new model for a spin during their stay. But at Gateway Canyons Resort, you can top all of that by racing around a two-mile red-dirt track in a Pro Baja Truck — the same trucks used in the Baja 1000. To drive, you’ll have to go to racing school and learn the rules of the road, but anyone can ride along with a professional driver for a wicked adrenaline rush. You’ll drift around corners at 80 mph and fly five feet into the air, but the landing is unbelievably soft, as if the wheels were made of marshmallows. (I was also outfitted in a racing jumpsuit, neck brace and heavy helmet before jumping into the driver’s seat.)
4. Achieve New Heights Heli-Skiing Near Whistler
Intermediate, advanced and expert skiers and snowboarders can take their ski experience to new heights — literally — thanks to Whistler Heli-Skiing. If you’re bored skiing with the plebeians, going up in a helicopter unlocks a vast terrain 50 times the size of Whistler, composed of 173 glaciers and 475 runs. The resort averages just 50 skiers a day, so you’ll have more untracked, fresh powder than you’ll know what to do with all to yourself. Ninety percent of the world’s heli-skiing takes place in British Columbia, and Whistler Heli-Skiing has been around since 1981, so they’re your best bet for GoPro footage that will make your friends and family back home gasp.
5. Heed the Call of the Wild by Dog Sledding in the Rockies
For a less dangerous but no less fun winter adventure, try dog sledding. Krabloonik in Snowmass Village has welcomed visitors for more than 40 years with adorable and friendly Alaskan huskies, enthusiastic and skilled mushers and surprisingly delicious food. Each sled carries up to two adults and a small child, and is pulled by a team of eight to 10 dogs that’s guided by an experienced musher. There are both daytime rides and a romantic twilight tour so you can bask in the alpenglow. You’ll also get to play with the dogs when you stop halfway through for a photo and hot-chocolate break.
What’s the coolest vacation adventure you’ve ever had? Tell us about it below.
