Blade runner 2049
"Thirty years after the events of the first film, a new blade runner, LAPD Officer K (Ryan Gosling), unearths a long-buried secret that has the potential to plunge what's left of society into chaos. K's discovery leads him on a quest to find Rick Deckard (Harrison Ford), a former LAPD blade runner who has been missing for 30 years."
This movie is iconic. The dystopian future imagined from the amazing Denis Villeneuve is like a sci-fi canvas filled with bright colors and also dim lights. This sequel honours the first 1982 film but also follows its own path. A must-see for every fan of the sci-fi genre.
Genre:Action & Adventure, Drama, Science Fiction & Fantasy
Directed By: Denis Villeneuve
Written By: Michael Green, Hampton Fancher

I can only recommend everyone who is interested to get familiar with Lewis Tan’s acting before S&B season 2 drops, to watch Wu assassins. His acting is super on point, especially in the later episode (the show only has 10) his character gets a lot more screentime, depth, including some really strong scenes and even with the often weak script Lewis is acting his ass off
What also explains why he got so much more screentime in the sequelmovie and I am sure this show was also why he was casted for Shadow and Bone
So do yourself a favor and watch Wu Assassins, do it for him

Animated 8: Aladdin and the King of Thieves v The Lion King 1 1/2
Tumblr media Tumblr media
King of Thieves {original-Aladdin (1992)}
ARE YOU IN OR OUT?? Also Robin Williams didn't voice Genie in Return of Jafar, but he did for this one! Aladdin's dad shows up, Jasmine and Aladdin get married - good stuff all around
The Lion King 1 1/2 {original-The Lion King (1994)}
It follows Timon and his New York Jewish meerkat family. The jokes are great
It is a masterpiece that adds to the movie while making it better and not worse. The dig a tunnel song is amazing. It's cute to see snippets of them raising Simba.
Funny

Animated 4: Kronk's New Groove v The Little Mermaid II: Return to the Sea
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Kronk's New Groove {original-The Emperor's New Groove (2000)}
I love me some more Kronk
The Little Mermaid II {original-The Little Mermaid (1989)}
The Little Mermaid was my favorite Disney movie when I was little, so when my mom got me Little Mermaid II for Christmas I loved it almost as much as I loved the original! It follows the story of Melody, Ariel and Prince Eric's daughter, who (due to nefarious happenings shortly after her birth) has no idea her mother was a mermaid, and her journey to find out her heritage and why she's so drawn to the idea of life under the sea! I can still remember some of the songs, and while the animation isn't nearly as good, it's still a worthy sequel.
idk how the broader population feels about this movie but i watched it a TON on vhs as a kid. stan melody!!!!!

Disney Sequels Tournament
Tumblr media
Just because the movie ends, doesn't mean the story is over!
Sometimes the characters have more to say after the first set of credits roll. Share with us your favorite sequel movie under the Disney creative umbrella!
We love those DCOM franchises! All the animations! Tell us about those Pirates and Superheroes on the big screen! Do you have a really obscure classic that came out with a sequel too? We would be thrilled to see it!
Essentially, as long as it is not the first one Disney did (sorry SWVII) or the introduction movie within the larger web of movies (go back to sleep "The First Avenger") and you can answer the required questions, go for it! Take a chance! Also: this is neither remakes nor prequels.
We are looking for 32-64 unique submissions and will update about when submissions will end at a later time. As is par for our course, you are not required to submit picture/propaganda, but those that do get preferential treatment if they are on the edge of being accepted. Finally, none of the movies pictured are considered submitted unless someone fills out the form.

Live Action 4: Where Fiction Is Fact
National Treasure: Book of Secrets v The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian v The Santa Clause 2
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
National Treasure 2 {original-National Treasure (2004)}
Nicholas Cage could have just taken an appointment but he decided he'd kidnap the president of the United States instead. Something about Mount Rushmore being a native land disfigured. LIBRARY OF CONGRESS BEST LIBRARY!!! How do you keep the same romantic pair AND tension in first and second movie? by making them break up offscreen before the beginning of the second one. Riley is a poor meow meow
Narnia: Prince Caspian {original- the Chronicles of Narnia: the Lion, the witch, and the Wardrobe (2005)}
It adds to the firsts world building off of what was there playing with the established time difference between the two worlds
Santa Clause 2 {original-The Santa Clause (1994)}

Animated 11: The Lion King II: Simba's Pride v The Rescuers Down Under
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Simba's Pride {original-The Lion King (1994)}
Actually excellent quality for an animated sequel - amazing songs, amazing cast and characters, amazing story. Who didn't have a crush on Kovu, huh??
Kovu
Because Lion King is basically Hamlat with lions and the sequel kept the Shakespeare theme and is basically Romeo amd Juliet with lions.
The Rescuers Down Under {original-The Rescuers (1977)}

MCU 1: Space Sequels
Thor: Ragnarok v Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3 v Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Thor: Ragnarok {original-Thor (2011)}
I've watched this thing so many times. It's just a delight from beginning to end. The colours, the whimsy, the characters, genuinely I'd put this up as best mcu movie (maybe competing with guardians but that's not a sequel soooo). It's fun and campy and heartfelt!
Guardians Vol 3 {original-Guardians of the Galaxy (2014)} *Spoilers?*
After the last few years for the MCU were hit-or-miss, Guardians 3 was a massive smash success that deserved all the praise, being even better than Guardians 2 and taking the spot of my personal favorite MCU movie of all time.
Guardians 3 is utterly amazing, with some of the deepest and most poignant tragedy, some of the funniest comedy, some of the coolest action, some of the most powerful emotional scenes, and some of the tightest scripting I've seen in movies. The character work, particularly in regards to Rocket and Nebula, is phenomenal, but all of the characters reach their perfect conclusion here, Drax gets to be a father, Peter reconnects with his family, Mantis becomes strong and independent, etc.
Guardians Vol 2 {original-Guardians of the Galaxy (2014)}
It's a fantastic sequel that follows up on all the threads from the previous movie. It has some amazing character development, hilarious comedy, and powerful action and tragedy.

Animated 9: Cinderella III: A Twist In Time v Return To Never Land
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Cinderella III {original-Cinderella (1950)}
It is in the words of Seamus Gorman 'A Masterpiece'. In his series reviewing the Disney Sequels it was considered the benchmark to measure all other Disney Sequels by. I don't remember which sequel got the damning 'It was good but it was no Cinderella III: A Twist in Time.' This movie has it all: time travel, characters with 3d personalities, that one iconic meme where the king says 'I forbid you to take another step' and the prince jumps out the window. Its so silly, its so fun, it is a masterpiece. Link to the Seamus Review:
~Anastasia redemption arc and character development ~The cat, lucifer, gets more screen time ~The king has a backstory
Time travel, and the prince. "But the talking mice say she's the wrong girl" " I forbid you to take another step down these stairs!" "Ok!*jumps out the window*"
Return to Never Land {originial-Peter Pan (1953)} *spoilers?*
It follows Wendy's canonical daughter Jane, in every version of the story where Peter returns to the Darling's window, he meets Jane, and this story gives her her own adventure. with Wendy as a turn of the century child, it isn't too much of a stretch to assume Jane would be growing up in the middle of a deeply contentious time in British History, that being the London bombings of World War 2, and Unlike Wendy, whom needed to understand that she didn't WANT to never grow up and embrace her coming maturity as it arrives, Jane had been thrown into a position in her family where she had needed to grow up too fast, and in her trip to Neverland understand the importance of that child-like wonder she had nearly lost.As such, she starts out deeply skeptical and frustrated by the nonsensical nature of Neverland, and being more trusting of adults than of children whose attempts of 'playing with her' were little more than bullying with the thin veneer of 'just a game', which ultimately allows her to be manipulated by Hook. But even then manages to grow attached to the lost boys and connect with Peter and due to her inability to fly for most of the movie had almost fully integrated into the world of Neverland and became the first Lost Girl by the time of the third act.While it's held back by the painfully early 00's music it's ultimately a very compelling story about a child in a deeply traumatizing situation finding temporary haven in a place untouched by the war that had so deeply distorted her worldview and ultimately reclaiming her right to have a childhood after constant danger of death and destruction had nearly wrenched it from her entirely.(also there's no racist Native American stereotypes that exist just for the sake of themselves and could have easily been some sort of fantasy species but nahhh it was the 50s so native americans were SUPER okay to be racist about/s)

Tinker Bell and the Legend of the NeverBeast {original Tinker Bell (2008)}
It centres around Fawn aka the best Disney Fairy, KT Tunstell did the soundtrack which absolutely slaps and is unironically on my main playlist to this day. It made me cry when i watched it for the first and subsequent times. Its just so sweet and wholesome. Also apparently spice girl Mel B voiced a minor character in the UK release??? The voice casting alone makes this one of the franchises and films of all time.
