For anyone struggling with their own mental health, or knows someone who is struggling with their mental health, please be kind. To yourself and to others. You never know what someone is going through. Mental health does not discriminate, it can devour and dominate lives. I had my own breakdown a few years ago where I mentally and physically burnt out and it was the loneliest time of my life. Remember you can’t always tell who is having mental health battles, as it’s often invisible and often the people who need the most help don’t want you to know they are struggling… and from my own experience I didn’t know how bad I was feeling until it was too late to prevent it… I have also have loved ones who have battled depression, anxiety, mania and it’s a really hard battle… There’s a poem by Stevie Smith called ‘Not waving but drowning’ and it highlights that you never know what someone is going through… this poem breaks my heart because someone really close to me told me that’s how she felt… through the whole of her life. 😢 so let’s just all look after each other a little bit more and also ourselves ❤️❤️❤️❤️ #mentalhealthday2022 #selfcareisthebestcare #mentalhealthmatters #loveeachother #lookoutforeachother #mentalhealthawareness

Habits or Routines to Revisit
Daily lives get easier once life allows to get into the practice with creating routines and habits. It may feel easier to think on the automatic button, to get up in the morning and brush teeth; check. Breakfast is next since used as a cue from brushing teeth has been accomplished. Sometimes it may take extra effort than just wanting to change there is a willingness involved that takes effort, repetition and patience. Making promises before the New Year begins and as the old one ends takes a willingness in steps to make change for the permanent and not the temporary. It may even seem tiring the tasks  depending on what one is working towards but worth it in the end is rewarding.
The difference between routines and habits is the intention and awareness in effort to cultivate a routine or habit for the greater good for oneself. Sometimes it’s not always easy to differentiate between habits and routines because the words are so interchangeable so understanding the difference is key to progress as well as the different levels of what is considered good or bad habits to form to implement into one’s path. For example, getting out of work at a certain time then to smoke a cigarette. Wanting to create change to quit smoking  can take some time to break away from habit of cues that signal it’s time to smoke when off of work. Replacing the cue when getting off of work with something else than smoking. So when off of work chewing gum maybe. The goal if wanting to quit means to replace with cue with something else. From my readings research suggests it’s a myth that it takes 21 days to form a habit. It does depend on the individual and their willingness to cultivate change. Habits research suggests can take anywhere from 18 to 200 and something days to become grounded in automatic responses that enforce sequences of action.
Routines require practice that is deliberate and conscious while being repetitive. Routines practiced with deliberate intention can cultivate habits. Routines are not automatic like habits are done without unconscious effort. Since routines are created from habits be mindful that daily life should allow flexibility. sometimes routines can become boring, mindless and unsatisfactory that can lead to aloofness to being present in the moment while feeling disconnected from mind, body and spirit. For example, driving the same way to work and eating at the same place for lunch and ordering the same thing every time. Wowsers after a while it can feel like your in a time warp stuck with the same outfit, lol. It can get a little weird when it comes to routine cultivating practice to put into a plan to become a habit. Furthermore, wanting to create change because the experience just feels like it is time for a switch up understanding within oneself what it feels like before slipping into depression, depression or slipping into emotional baggage for the worse.
Small or big, unhealthy to healthy, daily habits can cultivate routine that play out daily sometimes without even thinking about it. It can take time understanding oneself is half the battle to overcoming changes and staying grounded in better choices. There is power in choice. Upgrading one’s daily routine takes will, effort and persistence. Start small, be realistic about your goals to avoid self-sabotage, while allowing time, self-compassion and patience it does and will get better. Until we can     C. Y.
