Ruin and Rising Review: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 4 /5 I like this one more than the 2nd and it had a good ending which definitely elevates the whole series for me. However, it started slow again - like 100 pages of nothing in the beginning and didn’t really start to pick up until the last 100. MAJOR SPOILERS AHEAD! Let’s talk about Mal for a second. I know some people love him and some people hate him. I’m torn with how I feel about Mal being more than human because it actually makes sense but also kind of changes completely what we thought his character was for most of the series. Even though I was on the side of not loving Mal as a character (don’t hate him either, he's just kind of frustrating), there was this sense of Mal “keeping Alina human” and he was always good enough for her because they loved each other whether she had power or not, and this kind of dismisses that a bit? I am glad that Mal did die and I’m low key upset they undid it bc I think it makes it more adult (ik ik this is YA) and real if he truly had to die. Also I’m not really buying how he was brought back. However, I do like the final loss of Alina’s powers and how they got their “happily ever after” similarly to how Katniss and Peeta (Hunger Games) did, in that it's realistically happy for the lives they had lived, not some fairy-tale ending. A few other issues I had were that we waited way too long to really introduce Harshaw’s character and what he went through in his past and why he was fighting with them; and it got so annoying how much time Alina spends being in and out of consciousness in this series. I was also upset that we never get ANY kind of explanation for how Alina was born with her power after we learn she's not related to Morzova. Even like 1 line being like “I guess the universe created me to restore balance” would’ve been something. But if that is the case why did the universe wait so long! All this being said though I did enjoy it, but I didn’t love it. I’m hoping Six of Crows is better. So let me get this straight-The Darkling, who created the fold, murdered many people throughout his life, attempted to enslave Alina and killed everyone at her orphanage to manipulate her into submitting to him is a great guy who should be with Alina but Mal who stood by Alinas side even when she was going down a path he didn’t think she should go down, literally risked death and exile for her but because he got mad at her after he thought she was in trouble at the little palace while he was out risking his life to find a stag and watching all of his friends die only to come back and find her living in luxury with the Darkling when he thought she had been ignoring his letters all the whole time and reacted badly because he is a teenager with repressed emotions that he didn’t know how to handle is just an awful terrible person who doesn’t deserve Alina…. Like what is wrong with people.

Shadow and Bone Netflix: Gentle Reminders

- We are not unnecessarily criticizing the actors. This includes body shaming and bashing them for acting choices that the director made. We will not bash them for the ships they like or how much of the Grishaverse they have read. They are actual people. We will not hate them because we dislike their character. Theyre two different people. Come on.

- We are not shaming show fans for not having read the books. No one should be ashamed for what they did or did not read. Shaming them may discourage them from reading the books. They should watch the show and love it so much that they decide to read the books!

- We will binge watch the show/rewatch it to boost ratings to get a second season. The faster and more we watch it will post ratings because it tells Netflix that we enjoy it and want to see more. I personally think that there will be a second season because there are rumors floating around that there will be but also because the budget is too high for them only to produce one season.

- We will post spoiler warnings on any social media app that we use. People will watch the show at different paces! They may not have the time or energy to binge it. I do not - I have school. Dont be an asshole. This includes the ten minutes that will be released today.

- Be optimistic. If you can. I know it's difficult. If youve read negative reviews, just remember that it is subjective. There are also a lot of show fans out there. Come to your own conclusion. Leigh was actively involved in the process and would not let anything horrible come of this show. Remember that it is also a prequel to Six of Crows.

That's all I can think of! Book fans, I am just as excited as you are and hope that we get all that we wanted. Show fans, I hope you enjoy read the books afterward. Happy watching, and remember that the Crows are superior!

Well here it is! I power-read through Lisa Jacksons Absolute Fear to be able to dive back into the grishaverse. I’m nearly at the end of the book and I’ll admit, I feel things are perhaps dragging a bit? ° I recently listened to a podcast where the hosts discussed the shadow and bone trilogy, and it honestly gave me a new perspective to the characters.
