HI GUYS >:D First oneshot on this website, inspired by my last post. Hope you enjoy <3
Pairing: Kaz Brekker x Reader
Rating: Teen
Word Count: 858
Warnings: Mild Language, Alcohol
Part 1/?
The club is crowded tonight. More crowded than usual, you’d noticed. Maybe it was because of the ambassadors that had been visiting. Maybe it was because of the news of the ambassador that had been assassinated earlier in the week. People had assumed a Grisha was potentially behind it, naturally; or so the rumors said. But then again, rumors in Ketterdam weren’t the most reliable sources.
But that wasn’t the reason you were here. Someone had been following you, and you were fairly sure you knew who it was, even if you couldn’t see her. Inej Ghafa, the Wraith. Why she was trailing you, you didn’t know but in your mind the best way to potentially find out why was to head to the Crow Club.
“What can I get’chya?” You looked up from your seat, to see the bartender. “Whiskey.” You replied curtly. The man nodded, fetching a small glass and filling it with whiskey before setting it in front of you. You muttered your thanks to the man and sipped from the glass. You scanned the room, looking for the Wraith, but there was no sign of her.
You were torn from your thoughts when the bartender set another drink in front of you. “I didn’t ask for this.” you said, clearly confused. The man gestured to the back of the room. You gave him a quizzical look before turning around.
A  man wearing a hat and a long coat waved you over.  “Who are you?” you asked. “Nobody you need to worry about love. The boss wants to see you.” He laughed at your clearly confused face. “And what the hell does the King of the Dregs want with me?” He shrugged. “Dunno. Didn’t ask.” Still smiling, he pointed to the stairs. “Up the stairs, third room to your left.” You nodded, but he stopped you before you headed up the stairs. “Oh, the name’s Jesper, by the way.”
“Jesper,” you repeated. “I’m y/n.” He tipped his hat towards you. “Pleasure to meet you.” As you headed up the stairs, a million things ran through your mind. That’s why the wraith was on your trail. But what did Brekker want with you? You’d been known as a skilled pickpocket, as well as being the brains behind many projects, but known well enough to get his attention? The Bastard of the Barrel. Dirtyhands himself had noticed you. You passed by each of the doors, until you found Brekker’s office.
Before you even got the chance to knock, a voice spoke from inside. “Come in.” His voice was even, commanding. Even if you wanted to, you couldn’t disobey. Hesitantly, you opened the door. There he was, his back turned to you, staring out into the rainy evening. He turned around and spoke. “You must be y/n. Have a seat.” He gestured to the chair in front of his desk. The first thing you noticed were his gloves. You’d always wondered what lay beneath them. Rumors were all you’d heard. Not human, pure evil.
You sat down, waiting for him to say something. “I’m assuming you’re wondering why you’re here.” He said. You nodded. “I’ve heard of you. Your skill set. You see, I’ve been hired for a job, and I’m in need of someone with your abilities. I’m willing to pay generously.” You furrowed your brows. “Why me?” He clasped his hands together. “Why not? Word gets around quickly in the barrel. You’re quick, efficient, willing to do what it takes.” He replied. “How do you know this?” You ask. The barest trace of a smile graced his lips. “I have my ways.”
The wraith, you realized. “How long have you been tracking me?” You asked. “Long enough.” Brekker looked over your shoulder. “Took you long enough.” You turned around, startled by the young Suli’s presence. “Saints.” you muttered. Inej frowned at that. She walked brusquely past you and handed something to him. They exchanged a few quiet words before the wraith left.
“So you want me to work for you. What’s the catch?” You asked. “There’ve been too many who have been disloyal. If you’re to accept this job, you’ll need to prove yourself.” He pulled an apple out of his pocket, and cut a slice, with a knife. Inej’s knife you realized. He handed you the dagger, with the apple stuck to the tip of it. “This knife may or  may not contain poison on it. If you’ll choose to eat this, you’ll have the job, and an antidote, should there be poison. If not, forget we had this meeting and return to the 5th harbor.”
Reluctantly, you took the dagger from his gloved hand. You stared at the apple slice, and contemplated leaving then and there. You looked back to Kaz, who waited for you to make your decision. Finally, you bit the apple slice, chewed, and swallowed it. You set the knife back on the desk, waiting for convulsions, or something to happen, but nothing did. Kaz nodded, and pulled a vial out from a drawer in his desk, and pushed it towards you.
“There’s the antidote. Welcome to the Dregs.”

"Nina glanced from Inej to Kaz and saw they both wore the same expression. Nina knew that look. It came after the shipwreck, when the tide moved against you and the sky had gone dark. It was the first sight of land, the hope of shelter and even salvation that might await you on a distant shore."

He saw the damp curve of her neck, the gleam of her brown
skin. He wanted to … He wanted.
Before he even knew what he intended, he lowered his head. She drew in
a sharp breath. His lips hovered just above the warm juncture between her
shoulder and the column of her neck. He waited. Tell me to stop. Push me
away.
She exhaled. “Go on,” she repeated. Finish the story.
The barest movement and his lips brushed her skin—warm, smooth,
beaded with moisture. Desire coursed through him, a thousand images he’d
hoarded, barely let himself imagine—the fall of her dark hair freed from its
braid, his hand fitted to the lithe curve of her waist, her lips parted,
whispering his name.

"I want you to stay. I want you to … I want you.” “You want me.” She turned the words over. Gently, she squeezed his hand. “And how will you have me, Kaz?” He looked at her then, eyes fierce, mouth set. It was the face he wore when he was fighting. “How will you have me?” she repeated. “Fully clothed, gloves on, your head turned away so our lips can never touch? [...] I will have you without armour, Kaz Brekker. Or I will not have you at all." - Six of Crows, Chapt. 42 🖤

The thing about Kaz Brekker though, was this: if there was an insurmountable challenge, he would find a way to beat it into submission. — The resuscitation of Crow Coffee on Twenty-Third was his biggest triumph.

Six of Crows Review (No Spoilers)
Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo:
If you don't know, this is about a group of 6 people from all sectors of life joining together in order to break into and steal from an impenetrable city. I had no idea what to expect going into this book. I had heard it was good but the premise just wasn't something I usually read. Then I almost gave up 50 pages in. The first 100 pages of this book are insanely boring imo and very confusing if you haven't read shadow and bone (which I hadn't). So sue me. I don't like having to read series to read other series, it feels like homework, and I have enough of that already. However, the rest of the book is worth it, and I did eventually understand the world. Mostly.........Alright I'll admit I don't really understand most of the grisha powers, but it's really just not integral to the story. Other than the world, it took me a while to warm up to the characters, but I eventually grew to love them. Mostly. I loved Nina from the start, and she is my favorite character. She's really funny and her heart was always in the right place. Matthias showed up and I was like "Ooooh, hottie alert" but then I immediately was scared of him because it seemed like he would call me slurs and take away my rights. However, I LOVED his character arc and him and Nina were just ecddgghskygdsudkgo. I liked both Jesper and Wylan immediately, but they don't really become focal points until the second book. And then we have Kaz and Inej. My least favorite characters. Inej is cool and I like her backstory. Kaz also has a good backstory. I like them in practice. In the actual book however? Nuh-uh. Kaz was just an asshole really, and that's fine, but you have to be a FUNNY asshole. And their dialogue was actually making me roll my eyes. Like they were supposedly in love or whatever, but anytime they talked to each other? If I tried to cut the tension in the room with a knife, I would have been stabbing at nothing. Anyways, the actual plot was really fun. As inconsistent as Leigh's banter writing may be, her action scenes are GREAT. All the fight scenes, and pretty much everything except the first 100 pages and any scenes between certain people was really exciting and demanded my attention. The ending also made me scramble to pick up the second one. Overall, this was a really good time. I do think this book may be a TINY bit overrated, but I think most of the hype is warranted and I would recommend. 4.25 Stars
