how do you feel about elena casually sipping on tea reading how her dad tortured enzo for years (right after calling wes a monster for doing the same) and then defending it to damon knowing full well he was tortured for 5 years too?
i just…the way the show keeps elena’s parents as some saints and gives them peace like grayson didn’t torture living beings for decades
I... don't like it. That should be obvious though, considering how deeply I care for Enzo. You're totally right though, I never thought about it like that before, but the show does have a habit of keeping Elena's parents uplifted. Normally, a reveal as horrifying as her father secretly taking part in torture and experimentation for pretty much Elena's entire life would be treated as a major thing. Instead, it's... just kind of glossed over. Probably because the writers didn't care enough about Enzo to make it a conflict in the plot, but it certainly should've been.
I don't believe that Elena's reaction was necessarily in character for her. She has been horrified by much smaller things before, so surely she should've then looked at Grayson as she did with Isobel after finding out what she was truly like? Or at least, should've had some sensitivity when talking about how his "experiments" were "helping people" to Damon. I don't know, it's a really weird storyline and I absolutely do wish it had been treated better because Elena just deciding it was fine that her dad was doing that simply because it was ultimately "for a good cause" does not sit right with me. (Maybe that's why I wrote that fic about 7-year-old Elena freeing Enzo from the clinic's basement.)

It's one thing adding Classic Who (!!!) and the other spin-offs given all of New Who is already on iPlayer, but adding audio descriptions and sign language to apparently everything is wild!
I assume this implies the same things are going to be on Disney+ internationally too? Would make sense to apply the same work on both platforms.
(Although assuming they brought all the features on there too, I assume they'd do sign language again, for both BSL and ASL? I've never used Disney+ so no idea what accessibility options look like on there.)

You are not passing their vibe check
[ID: An illustration of Zuko and Azula from Avatar, roughly a few years older than their canon ages, sitting at a table. Azula sits properly, facing the viewer with a mischievous expression on her face. One hand rests on the table, while the other is held up so she can rest her chin on it. Zuko sits next to and slightly behind her on top of the table. He is in side profile, looking at the viewer with a very Zuko-typical irritability. One hand rests on the table, the other is out of view. Both siblings are dressed in ornately patterned robes. In the background are two golden pillars, with a wall behind them decorated in dragon-like patterns.]

pretty please, my fellow progressives
Could we please all keep in mind that the concept of "The Jews In General, or A Specific Type Of Jew, Controls Education, Government, Media, and/or Banking", is a longstanding antisemitic trope?
And most of all, that it is false??
No, a marginalized group does not also control education, the government, the media, and/or banking?
No, Jews do not secretly control these things and just pretend to be marginalized? No, Jews have not secretly been accumulating power since the Holocaust, granted by too-generous gentiles, out of pity?
No, it isn't better if you just mean a specific subgroup or kind of Jews. It's still specifically Jews.
It's like when people who hate trans/queer people are fine with rich white cis gay men. So they think it's not bigoted to blame "people with blue hair and pronouns" for the downfall of society.
We all know this means, "I only see some of you as human like me. You have to speak and act a certain way to count. Everyone in your group has to pass a test to get into the Good group."
Doesn't work.
Sure, it gives them plausible deniability to the people who matter to them. But everyone else can see exactly how they feel.
We've all known for years that it's bad to think of a marginalized group as having some "good ones." Rein it the heck in, please.
Because YES, all of those examples are ones I've seen implied, or stated outright, over and over, within the progressive community. This month alone.

DTIYS Time WOOO!!!!
I've been wanting to do one of these for a while and the time has come where I finally made one! I don't really have any super specific occasion to be making this for, but January is very sentimental for me since it was the month I first joined the Ninjago fandom, and I find it very fitting that I made a dtiys with the very first Ninjago Au I created on here
There's no deadline or prizes for this, it's all for fun. Don't be afraid to play around with stuff like the colors or backgrounds, or even change up the poses a bit, just as long as you have Bad Ending Cole and Bad Endings Jay in there. The only rule is that you have to have fun!
Ok but for the actual "rules", please make sure to tag me as well as using the #salinedtiys so I can see it! I will reblog any entries that I see, so yeah make sure I'm able to see them :)
Now just to make sure this post isn't too long, I'm gonna leave my sappy message under a cut, so if you don't care to see me ramble you don't have to.
So I first joined this fandom at the end of Janurary of 2019. I made a couple of posts about Ninjago and didn't think much of it, but then so many people started to enjoy the things I made and they made me feel like the things I made were worth something. I didn't feel as self conscious about myself because hey, these people on the internet enjoy the things I make so I think that makes me pretty cool.
This fandom has been the absolute best fandom I've ever been a part of. There's so many nice and cool people here who just make me feel happy and welcomed. And even when I took a break from Ninjago, when I came back it was still just about as welcoming to me as when I left.
And it really is fitting that I drew BE!Jay and BE!Cole for this dtiys (with thanks to the poll I created) because I guess if this dtiys is celebrating anything, it would be my progress as a creator. As an artist and a writer, and as someone who just genuinely likes making stuff. Because when you look back, some of the earliest art I posted was with Jay and Cole because bruiseshipping was (and still is) my favorite ship in this fandom. And this silly little au where all the ninja are evil was the first au I made and it's still one I continue to make content for because I enjoy it and other people enjoy seeing it.
So yeah like I said, this message was gonna get sappy. But I really just want to thank the Ninjago fandom for being so great and all the people who come and look at my art and my silly little aus because you guys bring a lot more joy in my life, and I genuinely feel like my life would suck a lot more if I didn't have you guys.
🧡🧡🧡
