Jack Sparrow. Be it known that you have been charged, tried, and convicted for your willful commission of crimes against the Crown, said crimes being numerous in quantity and sinister in nature, the most egregious of these to be cited herewith... impersonating an officer of the Spanish Royal Navy.
Tumblr media
Imposter
“¿Qué es esto?”
The young man froze, mid-reach over the heavy desk, his back to the cabin door.
He’d been caught.
“¿Teniente? Creo que estás en el barco equivocado.”
The ‘teniente’ in question whirled around, hands whipping behind his back, the ridiculous bicorn hat he wore barely balancing, the heavy red and gold sleeves almost to his finger tips.
The Capitán stared.
“Um,” a very un-Spanish voice broke the silence. “Ah. Think I might be on the wrong ship.”
And just at that moment, the oversized hat started to tip forward, his two clumsy hands fumbled to catch it - only to shove stiff gold-braided cuffs right in his eyes.
“... ow.”
The bicorn tumbled to the floorboards.
A pair of heavily lined eyes snapped up in fear.
But, unexpectedly, the Capitán laughed. Loud, unrestrained and startling in the small cabin.
The imposter furtively glanced past him to the cabin door, but in the tight space figured it too much of a risk to try. Even if the Spaniard was laughing himself to tears.
“English?” Capitán wiped his eyes. “What is your name, niñito?”
“Um... Jack.”
“Then it is your lucky day, Jack.” The smile lingered on his lips. “For I am Capitán Armando Salazar, and you have amused me. For that, I will spare your life.”
“Oh?” Jack brightened a bit. “Well, um. Since you’re in such a good mood, Captain, maybe you could - um. See your way to letting me go?”
“Not yet.”

[plain text: if you liked what you read, consider giving this a reblog, please! it'll let more people see my work!]
Full Story:
There were most nights where Dark was able to just lay in bed when they weren’t able to sleep, just letting whatever memory that disturbed them play out in their mind while they stared up at the ceiling above themself. But this time they simply couldn't. They weren't able to fall asleep, letting their mind wander wasn't working, either. And trying to focus on the breathing and heartbeat of the pink haired man beside them was doing nothing as well. And they had always found that to be a nice go-to when nothing else seemed to work.
So now they were walking down the softly lit winding staircase, not sure where their tired feet would take them. Seemingly ancient furniture and photos that had been covered for years had their colors turned gray as the entity walked by, highlighted by the slight glow of their red and blue aura - as Wilford had decided to call it. Dark tried to keep their attention away from the photos hung on the walls lest they get tempted to pull the fabrics off and uncover them.
The photos were covered for a reason.
Dark soon found themself in the kitchen of the manor. The moonlight coming from outside just barely illuminated the black counter tops, showing the various glasses and plates and silverware that neither occupant had remembered to clean and put away; Dark was far too busy keeping the other look alikes in check wherever they all ended up, and Wilford was far too scatterbrained as it was to remember most simple tasks, leaving the entity to clean up after him most of the time. But no matter how much Wil might protest, they wouldn’t be doing as such if they didn’t mind it. But despite cleaning the kitchen providing the perfect distraction they just didn’t have the energy to do so much work. And considering they were in the kitchen…
The entity looked around the various cabinets, as well as the fridge, for anything that they could have as a midnight snack. Cookies, chocolate, a pie that Wilford had impulsively bought… Nothing was scratching their snacking itch. Well, nothing until they looked into the freezer, noticing a carton of mint chocolate chip ice cream that they hadn’t seen before. Wilford must have picked some up the last time he went to the store. And honestly, it was exactly what they needed right now. Not bothering with grabbing a bowl, they simply took the carton and a clean spoon and stood themself at the central counter. And despite how ridiculous they felt eating straight out of the carton, they didn’t see any point in grabbing a bowl. It would just be added to the assortment of dishes they’d need to clean tomorrow.
Dark stood there for a while, leaned against the counter as they watched the pine trees outside sway with the breeze. Just taking in the heavy silence of the manor around them. So quiet that when they suddenly heard a floor plank creak outside of the kitchen they nearly jumped out of their skin, the spoon in their hand clanking to the counter when they accidentally let go.
“Never knew that you were one to get spooked.” A voice chuckled from the doorway. Wilford, of course, no one else resided in the manor. No one else would even have the balls to sneak up on the entity like he did. Dark’s cheeks were flushed a darker gray from pure embarrassment as they picked the spoon back up.
“I was just too caught up in my thoughts, that’s all..” They ate another spoonful of their snack. Wil just gave a hum, leaned against the wooden door frame as he watched his partner. For once it felt more unnerving than any other time he did so. “Is there something you want?”
“Are your thoughts why you’re up so early… Eating ice cream, from the looks of it?” He chuckled a little as he took his place next to the other, arms now resting against the counter once he was bent over. “I’m learning a lot about you this night, darkling~”
Dark’s face was now instead a dark gray from the flirting. They rolled their eyes a little, looking down at the other. “It’s not that important, Wilford. You’ve caught me, you don’t need to be down here with me anymore.” Wil was never deterred by their rudeness, they knew that very well. And deep down inside they wanted their boyfriend to stay here with them, chatting away about a million topics at once, like he loved to do while they were working. But it was so early in the morning. And it’s not like Wilford had the best track record when it came to sleeping, either.
“Mmm… No.” He smirked as he reached into the silverware drawer to grab his own spoon. Of course he wasn’t going to leave. “I’m not letting you eat all that by yourself. You’ll get a stomach ache doing that.” He chuckled as he scooped his own spoonful of ice cream from the carton. “Besides, I had bought this for the both of us, you thief.” Another chuckle, this one earning the faintest touch of a smile from Dark.
“Alright, fine. I suppose there’s no arguing with a madman.”
“Now you’re starting to get it!” Wilford laughed as he stood up straight to leave a kiss on Dark’s cheek. “And if you want to talk abo-”
“No.” The entity’s tone was firm. The flickers of red surrounding them became brighter before they sighed. They only used such a tone with Wil, when they were especially sure they didn’t want to speak about something. Well, that seemed to be that then. Wil wasn’t going to push the topic further.
“Alright, alright… Oh! But I’m sure you’ll love to hear about…” And the two devolved into their usual place. Wilford rambling about who even knows what half of the time, and Dark just standing there, listening to every word. Wilford could already guess why his partner was awake, anyways. The day that the three of them died, in their own little ways, wasn’t something that would ever go away. The sounds of gunshots kept Wil awake as well. But in some strange sort of way, neither wanted to go back and change any of it. Because neither would be here as they are now - awake at midnight in a manor full of old and painful memories, sharing a moment of peace over mint chocolate chip ice cream.
How could they ever want to take this away?

“Throw her with the other prisoners, station two guards at the ladder.” A particularly agitated look centred on Vi, who met it with equal valour, Grayson pointed at her. “I want no trouble on my ship tonight, you hear me?”
It may as well be a direct invitation to the party. “You should know to never make a deal with a pirate, Captain.” And with that, she was being manhandled away again, pulled up by her chains. “I’ll make sure to wear my fanciest suit.”
What happens when Vi, a stowaway pirate, is found on the Piltover Army's ship?

ENT Rewatch Starlog, 07 January, 2024: Episode 2.26 “The Expanse”
Tumblr media
An unknown probe comes to Earth and cuts a 4000 kilometer swath across the surface of the planet from Florida to Venezuela, killing as many as seven million people. When the Enterprise returns home, they are intercepted by the Suliban, and Archer is given an audience with the mysterious “Future Guy” who controls the Suliban. He reveals that other future factions have told a species called “The Xindi” that Earth will be responsible for their destruction in the 26th Century. FG gives Archer a location and tells him that the Xindi must be stopped or the timeline will be altered.
The NX-01 continues to Earth, but Duras, a Klingon Archer embarrassed a few episodes back, attacks.  He is warned off by the timely arrival of other Starfleet vessels, allowing Archer to tell Starfleet about Future Guy’s info. It turns out the Xindi are located in the Delphic Expanse, and area known for strange spatial anomalies, and generally impassible; Vulcans have been driven mad just entering the area, and a Klingon ship once had its crew “anatomically inverted.” Starfleet decides to carry on with the mission, re-arming Enterprise and assigning a military contingent. Trip discovers that his sister is one of Florida’s casualties, and begins to express anger and the desire to seek revenge. Phlox chooses to stay on board, while T’Pol is reassigned by the Vulcan High Command back to her homeworld. The NX-01 is going to drop her off on the way to The Expanse when Duras attacks again, allowing Enterprise to show she’s got more teeth now, including “photonic torpedoes.”
T’Pol reveals that she has decided to resign from the Vulcan High Command in order to stay on Enterprise; Archer initially argues, but then orders them to change course away from Vulcan and head straight to the Expanse. When they arrive seven weeks later they are AGAIN  ambushed by Duras, this time with three ships. They skirmish in the thermobaric clouds bordering the Expanse, and as they get closer, Duras’ escorts break off rather than enter. Mayweather pulls off some fancy flying and Enterprise destroys Duras’ Bird of Prey. She’s taken some damage though to the antimatter injectors; not enough to stop them but something that may be important later. Archer confirms once more with T’Pol that she wants to join them, and the NX-01 enters the Delphic Expanse.
Tumblr media
I’ve done these in the past where I did complete rewatches and write-ups for TOS and DS9. I wanted to do ENT as well, but started rewatching in chunks and bits and fell into a pattern without really catching them all, and like the entire world, have been just CRAZED the last three years and didn’t get there. But along the way I ended up watching all of Season 2 again, and wanted some opportunities to talk ENT.  I did recently make this post about the show in general, but when I started “The Expanse” this morning, it seemed like a good compromise to just follow the Xindi arc.
As I recall, this fell at a time when Enterprise was taking a lot of shit-much of it deserved (some blatant sexism, plenty of cookie-cutter plots)—and DS9 was really starting to find an audience as it had finally made it to home video and you could watch THEM ALL IN ORDER AS RON D. MOORE INTENDED. There was a lot of buzz out there from Trek “fans” (and proto-internet dudebros and gatekeepers, and that was probably me in the case of the latter) about ENT not living up to canon or continuity.  To try to reel in some of that griping, TPTB (“the powers that  be” as we used to call them on Message Boards and Yahoo Groups etc.) decided to try to up some stakes, and go the DS9 route of a season long arc. Additionally, please know we were all living in a VERY fresh open wound post-9/11 and the inexorable hold that event would have on American film and television for about the next two decades (and perhaps now) was very much in play. So here comes the Xindi storyline.
The set-up is good; the threat seems real, the Vulcans’ skepticism about the temporal Cold War works here, and T’Pol having to decide if she will stay on work well.
Tumblr media
Trip being the crewmember personally affected is interesting, if cliche that a sister we didn’t even know he had is his connection. I might have had a few more characters know SOMEONE; the destruction did cut through Cuba and into Venezuela. Could have been a point for more characters, but fridging Trip’s sister does set up some trauma to explore through the third season; could have been handled better.  I always thought it was a bit of a stretch that an Duras ancestor would still be such a Klingon dickbag 200 years before Worf, but this episode efficiently cuts him out of Archer’s narrative and adds some damage to the NX-01 that will come into play later with those antimatter injectors damaged.  Not an edge of your seat cliffhanger, but a good set up for the next season, and it certainly brought me back.
Tumblr media
Next Voyage: Season 3 begins with “The Xindi,” getting right into just WHO these Florida-burning bad guys are!
(Images copied from the library at @trekcore; I will happily remove them if there is any issue with me using them. Meanwhile, all you Trekkies, go hit Trekcore! They're a fantastic resource.)

For Seasons Skirmish 2024
An Unusual Expectation
Tumblr media
Wong didn’t want to sleep.
Not that it was a surprise. He hadn’t had a full night’s sleep in weeks.
Ever since the Scarlet Witch attacked Kamar-Taj, he hadn’t been able to sleep more than four hours at a time.
It was no longer unusual for Wong to rise from his bed in the dark, dress, and circle the half-renovated courtyard in silence until the cold sky began to lighten.
Nor was it unusual for him to thoroughly check each of the invisible protections he’d helped to reconstruct around the temple’s perimeter, spreading his enhanced senses wide to feel for any breach to their security.
What was unusual was that this time, he did not do any of those things.
Because this time… it was a dream that had startled him awake.

[plain text: if you liked what you read, consider giving this a reblog, please! it'll let more people see my work!]
Full Story:
The sound of a pickaxe whacking against stone was the only sound that carried through the tunnel Grian had started to make for himself. Nearly a month in and neither him nor Scar had any sort of diamond equipment, not even a measly hoe or shovel. And with how wreckless Scar was being, Grian was fed up with using only iron armor as protection. He had such a huge chance to not end up with one of the few people here who had no regard for their safety. How did he manage to luck out as badly as he did? Well, what’s done is done now. All he needed to focus on was making sure they didn’t lose their first life already.
“Damn it, where are the diamonds??” Grian huffed, resting his pickaxe on his shoulder as he looked back up at the makeshift stone stairs that was his mineshaft. He couldn’t see the outside with how deep he had gone. “I’m almost out of torches, too. I’m surprised I haven’t found much coal down here, either..” He looked back at the stone in front of him, gently fiddling at the red, yellow, and blue feathered wings where ears should have been. A forcive habit for whenever he was thinking. “I should probably get back to the sur- Gah-!”
The avian dropped down on one knee as he clutched his chest, using his pickaxe to prop himself up. A sharp, burning pain shot from his heart and spread around his chest. He was far too familiar with this pain by now, even if it was usually slightly dimmed down. The phantom pain of his soulbound partner taking damage. And judging by how impactful it was this time…
Grian tapped the glowing green heart on his chest, revealing his health and hunger bars. And he was suddenly down four hearts. Okay, maybe Scar just fell while dealing with his cats, nothing to- “Shit-!” Another wave of pain, another three hearts lost. What was his partner doing up there?! He quickly grabbed a piece of steak out of his side bag and ate it in hopes of keeping his hunger up. It must be night time right now, why else would the two be taking so much damage
And suddenly, after another bout of pain… One heart left. The avian was panicking now. His face was pale and breathing quickened, almost to a degree that it felt like he was choking on his own air. This was it, they’d be losing their first life. And then it wouldn’t be long until they were down to red, and then completely losing. He started to scramble out of his mine shaft. His hearts were slowly regenerating; Scar might have gotten a moment of peace and was eating. But that didn’t mean the danger was over. Since it was currently night time, he could get swarmed by zombies, or blown up by a creeper. He could simply fall off a cliff.
Grian just hoped he could find his partner in time before anything happened.
The avian decided to stop by their base first, calling out Scar’s name into the dark oak trees around him in the hopes that he’ll get a response. But he wasn’t getting anything. Scar could be on the other side of the area for all he knew. At the very least by now their hearts were almost full. Grian just had to hope that it would stay that way until he found his partner.
“Scar-!” He was quick to rush through the entrance of their base, eyes darting around frantically in the hopes he’d spot a glimpse of his friend. “Scar, are you here?!”
“Grian!”
Running through the entrance was the man himself. With that stupid without-a-care smile on his lips, his hand waving to his partner before stopping right in front of him. “Oh man, you’ll never bel-”
“Scar, we just almost died, what the hell were you thinking?!” Scar was used to Grian’s frustrated yelling by this point. There was no shortage of silly and, to everyone else, stupid ideas from the salesman, especially now that he had acquired those huge gray cats. And considering that yes, he almost got the two of them killed, he wasn’t surprised that the other was so upset.
“Oh Grian, you would not believe how many monsters can appear in the jungle!” Scar laughed a little as he headed over to the cat pit, pulling some bamboo sticks out of his backpack. Grian was quick to follow him. “I just wanted to grab some snacks for the kitties, and suddenly I’m getting swarmed by skeletons and spiders! Good thing you had some food on you, I completely forgot to grab some before I left.” He chuckled, about to jump right into the pit, before his partner grabbed his arm to stop him.
“Scar, I really don’t think you understand. We. Almost. Died. And for what, just because you wanted to feed your cats?? They don’t even need to eat!” He threw his hands up in the air to try and add more emphasis to the situation. His feathers were getting really ruffled trying to get the other to understand the situation.
“Well- I didn’t think you’d be so upset by this.” Scar huffed a little, deciding to just toss the bamboo sticks into the pit in the hopes that the felines would just eat them themselves. “Sure, we almost died because I got caught by monsters, I’ll admit to that. But guess what? We didn’t! So no harm done!” And there was that confident smile, one that could either quell the avian’s worries or just make him more annoyed by how sure Scar was in whatever he was saying. And unfortunately, it wasn’t the former.
Grian took a deep breath, through the nose and out through the mouth. He couldn’t let himself just blow up on his partner. His singed pants remembered the last time that happened. “Okay. I don’t think you quite understand the situation here. The two of us?” He punched Scar’s arm, hard enough to remove half a heart from their health. The other responded with a “Hey-!” as he rubbed where he was punched. “We’re linked! I wouldn’t be upset about you running off to who knows where at whatever time if we weren’t! But any damage you take, I take, so whenever you go off on your silly little adventures you’ve got both of our lives to worry about. I just-” The avian let out a sigh as he pinched the bridge of his nose. “Why do you constantly put yourself in danger, hm? Is it just to prove some sort of point?”
Scar was completely taken aback by Grian’s words. He hadn’t even thought that his own little adventures would upset his friend so much. Sure, this wasn’t the first time he’d gotten them so close to death. But it’s not like he ever did it on purpose. Yet the avian was upset all the same. And when Scar gave it a second of thought, he was right to be upset. He could always be a little more careful, a little less reckless. He could try to not go out at night, or start fights with the other soulbound people here. He could try to be a better friend.
“You’re… You’re right.” He chuckled a little, fingers running through his hair. “I really haven’t been the greatest friend, huh..? But I’m gonna start doing way better. And I can start by- By getting rid of these pesky cats!” And like he did only a couple of minutes before he tried to jump into the cat pit. And like last time, Grian stopped him. But this time it was more out of confusion than anger.
“Wha- Scar, I didn’t- You are the most… Bullheaded person here, aren’t you?” Despite his words, there was a small smile trying to form on his lips. Oh, he was trying hard not to be amused by his friend’s antics that never made sense. It was certainly a tough task. And Scar’s laughter wasn’t helping in the slightest.
“And here I thought you hated the cats. Have you warmed up to them, my friend?” That cocky smirk was on his lips as he crouched down a little to meet Grian’s height.
Grian hated his friend’s cocky nature. He hated how he never thought things through, how quick he was to jump into anything. How he always made a bad situation seem good. And how his smirk could easily bring a red blush to the avian’s cheeks.
He was quick to turn his head away so that said cheeks wouldn’t be visible, trying to hide his fluster as he crossed his arms over his chest. “No, not at all! I just- You’ve cared for them since day one, it would be stupid to get rid of them so soon!”
Grian’s stubbornness to always be right was the funniest thing to Scar. And who was he to deny his friend’s needs? He chuckled as he put his hands up, surrendering to the avian in front of him. “Alright, alright, the cats are staying then! Now, for my first decision as the new and responsible Scar, I say we go to bed. That way the day will come and all the skeletons and zombies and such will burn away.” Despite his attempt to hold it back, the avian let out a little chuckle as he looked up at his friend. Always the one for the dramatics. Another thing he “hated”.
“That’s the greatest decision you’ve ever made.”

i will take good care of you (and still i will live here)
read it on AO3 at https://ift.tt/o2e50gp by TheStanleyParableEnjoyer “Penny for your thoughts?” Martin turns on the tap and holds his hands under the stream of warm water, gently scrubbing at the more stubborn scraps of dough. “This is nice. It’s good to be here with you. Making something together.” Jon makes another soft noise of affirmation. He scrapes the last of the dough from his fingers and turns off the water, leaning over slightly to dry his hands on the towel. Arms recede from his sides and Jon appears next to him, entwining their hands together as they stare out of the kitchen window. The clock on the wall above the door ticks. Dust motes dance mid-air, enshrined in watery sunlight. Jon’s palm is warm in his as they rest their head on Martin’s shoulder. And, for one blissful moment, everything is perfect.
