Some days are better than others. Some days you gotta sit next to an open heat source to remind yourself that you are warm.
For a couple of decades after the breakup, i think he would've been swinging wildly between wanting to dip into a frozen river and setting himself on fire. It’s fine now, but for a while his relationship with temperature was weird.
Vic innocently came to check on him, but he hasn't said anything so far. So I guess they’ll just sit there until he does something. The snake being Vic’s only real form of conversation here.

Hey so I just had some coffee and immediately I started thinking about the Justice League (from the early 00’s cartoons) and the Seven and if they switched worlds/had a crossover. And boy did I have a Pepe Silvia moment.
But one thing that’s making me realize the real differences between Homelander and Superman. Is that Superman had parents that raised him like a human. Superman had the childhood that Homelander wanted. (And also needed tbh)
It also reminded me of the Christmas episode when Superman invited Martian Manhunter to spend Christmas with him and his parents. And just how open they were to having a 6’7 Martian in their house on Christmas Eve!!! Also in that episode it is revealed that Superman still believes in Santa Clause. I just wanted to add that part in.
(Sorry this is all over the place this is why I don’t drink coffee very often.)
But the reason why I bring up the Christmas episode is that I picture Homelander being invited in by Superman’s parents for a slice of apple pie and coffee. And Homelander just melting. Like when he was having breakfast at Becca’s. But with more of getting the hug you never knew you needed energy.
And how in this one comic Superman was basically not having a great mental health week. He left Metropolis and went back to Kansas and spent a few days with his mom. And basically needed a pep talk from his family and childhood friends.
It just reminded me that even Superman has people to fall back on when he is feeling vulnerable.
While Homelander only has himself. (And Black Noir to an extent)
One last thing is that in the animated series it seemed people aren’t really afraid of Superman. I remember people getting in Superman’s face and outwardly disagreeing with him. While with Homelander everyone is walking on egg shells. Heck some plot points were Lois Lane writing articles saying that Superman is whack.
All in all at first I thought this crossover would’ve been like the Justice League being surprised that the only real threat is Vought. And the Seven having to comprehend that magic and aliens exist.
Aside from the murdering. I feel like Homelander would be thrilled to fight actual villains.
Sorry this is very long I just think this fascinating to look at. And going past the obvious differences of morals.
Plus I just want Homie to have a nice slice of homemade apple pie.
this was such a fun read! i am someone who has had pretty limited exposure to Superman. the only DC content i really engaged with was Batman: TAS. but you raise a lot of good points about why Homelander works so well as a counterpart to Superman: he's not JUST Superman but evil. he's not JUST the idea that absolute power corrupts absolutely. Homelander was stripped of everything that made Superman a super man except for his powers. Superman's powers didn't make him a hero. love is what made Superman.
i think Kripke has a very good fundamental understanding of what made Superman such an engaging character, despite the rep he gets nowadays as being bland or boring, and why so many edgy interpretations of him fall flat. it's this fundamental comprehension that gave him the PERFECT basis to build Superman's antithesis.
i can't speak to The Boys comics, i don't and won't read them, but Kripke's Homelander works BECAUSE he so deeply craves everything that Superman had. because he really did want to be the hero that Vought writes those scripts for. but the thing about being a hero is that you first have to be able to recognize someone who needs saving. Homelander isn't equipped to do this. he doesn't see the value in people who don't have serve a purpose to him because he never fucking learned how. Superman was loved, and in turn was taught to love. he loves people indiscriminately. he saves people both because he can, and because he must. it's ingrained in him. what more could the world hope for from a man with the power of a god? and that's exactly what he is; hope. He is everything Madelyn told Homelander he's supposed to be: hope, baseball, apple pie, sunshine. except where Superman actually got all that, Homelander never did. Homelander was taught from a young age that people, by in large, are disposable, and that he is special. different. alien. the opposite of Superman's extremely human upbringing. Homelander got the bad room. he got scientists in white coats waving at him through glass windows. he got a father who tortured him and a dozen faceless surrogate mothers who's hearts jumped every time they lied 'i love you' to his face. phew, i'm very longwinded!!! but i agree with you wholeheartedly. someone get that man some pie! i actually just watched that episode where he corrects Stan Edgar about there being super villains! Homelander was chomping at the bit for an evil to fight in order to make himself the hero he wanted to be. to show the world he's the good guy. not really because it's the right thing to do. but for the validation it brings. It's an unfathomable crime that Vought raised him to be the very evil he was made to thwart.

y’know i thought candy cane lane would be a bit shit but it was actually really cute! silly & a little corny but no more so than the santa clause, y’know? climax was a bit messy but yeah, overall a really cute, lighthearted romp with a very sweet cast of characters.

Three weeks after premiering on Netflix, Young Sheldon has ascended to the most watched show on streaming platforms in the United States. A platform switch to Netflix also sent The Super Mario Bros. Movie to its biggest streaming week to date.
The two titles, which rank second and third on Nielsen’s streaming chart for the week of Dec. 4-10, are the latest examples of Netflix’s multiplying power. Young Sheldon had 1.63 billion minutes of viewing on Netflix and Max for the week, after recording 1.85 billion minutes a week earlier and 963 million for its first week on both platforms. The Big Bang Theory prequel had never charted before the past three weeks (it was previously exclusive to Max) and has easily surpassed its parent show in viewing time all three weeks. The Big Bang Theory had 592 million minutes of watch time on Max for Dec. 4-10.
Similarly, The Super Mario Bros. Movie had a solid run on Peacock earlier in the year, hitting a high of 717 million minutes of viewing for its first week in late July and early August. After mostly falling out of the top 10 in the fall, however, the movie jumped to 1.35 billion minutes of viewing for its first full week on Netflix. (On a smaller scale, Paramount+’s School Spirits also hit the charts with an assist from Netflix, ranking eighth among original series with 326 million minutes of viewing across both streamers.)
Another Netflix movie, Sam Esmail’s Leave the World Behind, grabbed the top overall spot in its opening week with 1.92 billion minutes of watch time. Squid Game: The Challenge cooled a little to 1.03 billion minutes after two weeks above 1.4 billion, but it still grabbed the top original series spot. YA breakout My Life With the Walter Boys premiered to 673 million minutes of viewing on Netflix, good for third on the originals list.
Nielsen’s streaming ratings cover viewing on TV sets only and don’t include minutes watched on computers or mobile devices. The ratings only measure U.S. audiences, not those in other countries. The top streaming titles for Dec. 4-10 are below.

hey aarne!!! secret santa here again! glad to see you got my message! all good you didn’t respond straight away i just got a lil worried that it didn’t send thru or anything :)
i do have a favourite holiday movie! i think the santa clause trilogy is my favourite!
i’d suggest adding jani lane’s have yourself a merry little christmas to your rock xmas playlist - he is one of my all time faves :)
honestly i kinda just divide the glam metal and rock up by 70s/80s, sometimes it does get a little blurry but i guess it’s just who sounds more like bowie or t rex (rock) and who leans more towards leppard or crue (metal). it’s not super defined so it varies from person to person which is cool!
i’d love to see your trash glam hot mess playlist!
some more questions:
- where in the world are you from?
- how do you celebrate christmas?
- who is your favourite modern artist?
all from me today! see you soon :)
I adore Jani too. The first one on my list is always God Rest Ye Merry Gentleman by Dio and Carol of the Bells by Orion's Reign then go on from there. I will definitely add that one too.
I can see dividing it that way. I usually just lump all of it together as glam when I listen. It reminds me of that whole debate around Deep Purple and AC/DC and arguing whether they are rock or early metal. Who knows.
Here is the playlist but I am still working on adding things to it.
I am in Pennsylvania in the US. Where are you at?
I don't particularly celebrate Christmas much now that my parents have passed. My sister follows Nordic practices so I am more involved in Yule and Solstice stuff these days. I guess I still do a lot of the things that are considered "Christmasy" like baking cookies, exchanging gifts and things.
Modern artist? Do you mean music or painting? What do you consider modern?

Hiya Lane! Another day - another message from Santa hehe 🎅🏻
Wow! If you don't mind, can you tell about the festival? I hope you enjoyed it!
Wow, you have very cool taste! I also love these bands and I will be glad if you recommend me something from Faster Pussycat (your favorite songs/albums)
Little interactive for Christmas mood! 🎁
What song do you associate winter and Christmas with? ❄️
Do you have a favorite food that is associated with Christmas? 🍭
Fav movie for Christmas?
Your Santa ❄️🎄
hey!!!
the festival was rly good for the most part but unfortunately we got evacuated at the end (3 songs into fall out boys set 🙄) and it was handled really badly on security + the festival’s part, (they did not have a safety plan in place + seccys were honestly so rude!). the rest of the day was awesome! i saw devo, boom crash opera and limp bizkit play and i met one of the original wiggles so overall a good day if we leave out the last hour
i’ll recommend listening to the faster pussycat compilation “the elektra years” as it has a lot of awesome songs from early on in their career & some of my favourites!
i am australian so i associate the song “six white boomers” with christmas time, or alternatively the aussie version of jingle bells
the food i most associate with christmas is prooobably sausage sandwiches bc again, australian lol
growing up, every year my family used to watch the santa clause trilogy so those are my favourite christmas movies although i really can’t stand tim allen as a person 😭
lovely to hear from you again secret santa!

Santa Clause Lane, SB
santa claus lane
a place that is far away from here, but near
home away from home, a long skinny road alongside the crumpled rocks that sink into the ocean
ocean ocean ties ocean eyes ocean guys… surfers, yeah those ones
they whip and tumble across the white foam of the wave rumbling down towards the stand
sunburnt, skin peelings, eyes glistening, standing in the shelter of the board
the board that has been passed down for centuries; ka heʻenalu
not that i know the history or the tradition but i yearn to see what is out there that i do not know
how...

Asked Alexa to play Christmas music while I wrap presents, and she says she’s playing the holiday favorites station, but I’ve yet to hear a single song from Hilary Duff’s magnum opus, Santa Clause Lane, so I think I’m being lied to.

Wait. Wait. Wait. Wait.
I thought Disney+ meant they put all the Santa Clause movies in a collection for the season not that they made new content for this series! They made episodes?!? Well now this little trip down memory lane is turning into a full binge.

Not to rant about a Disney Channel Christmas song from 2002 in the July of 2019 but Santa Claus Lane is so fucked up. She was fucking kidnapped. She wound up in a foreign country with no passport and no assurances that Santa and the gang are interested in getting her home. "No need to wonder, no need to explain” my fucking ass

I’m the self-proclaimed Hilary Duff fan but...
I’d never even given her Christmas album a listen. Ever. Until now.
It’s actually been 15 years since the album came out and I’ve been a fan of hers for a little bit more than that.
And what made me listen now is because I found her Christmas album for a dollar from one of the now-folded local music labels here that seemed to only start selling their unsold items from their stockroom about last year.
Also, it’s March and it’s hot here in the Philippines.
I guess I just needed to connect/reconnect to that undiscovered/forgotten part of my childhood.
I knew What Christmas Should Be from Cheaper by the Dozen and Santa Claus Lane from Santa Clause 2. Also Tell Me a Story, but the other songs in here, I’ve never heard them at all.
